Frozen Stiff
Summary: Captured by the Frost Giants, your time on Jotunheim gets interesting.
Pairing: Jotun Loki x F. Reader
Warnings: Smut. 18+ ONLY. Minors DNI. Loss of virginity. Size kink. Somnophilia.
See my Masterlist here
You really did it this time. Your father instructed everyone stay in their homes this night. Loki, king of the Frost Giants had warned your father, King Erik, king of the elves that he would be coming through Alfheim. If anyone was caught outside, they would be considered an enemy, and taken prisoner.
Your father’s royal decree had went in one ear and out the other. You were considered a trouble maker. Not because of anything you had done consciously. Trouble seemed to follow wherever you went. You were so unlike your sister, the future queen of Alfheim, and no one let you forget that.
She was tucked away safely in her chambers with the door locked. Here you were, hiding in the bushes outside the palace. You wanted to get a good look at the Frost Giants. You had never seen one in person, and you didn’t think the view from your chambers would do them any justice.
Loud footsteps echoed throughout the forest as they stomped through. The trees were shaking with each step they took, the force of their large bodies leaving holes in the ground where they walked. They were approaching quickly. You really should run back in the palace, but you were frozen. The first few Jotuns walk by and you’re stunned.
They are even bigger than you imagined. Then you see him, King Loki. He struts through and a wild thought comes to you. He’s beautiful. You had always been taught that the Frost Giants were ugly beasts that would take misbehaving children in the night. They seemed nice enough. King Loki had even given your father warning before passing through. He and the last three giants walk passed you and you count the seconds before you can run back inside.
Woof
You look beside you terrified. Your sister’s dog, Arnie, pants beside you, tail wagging.
Woof
He barks again. You grab him, trying your best to shush him. But it’s too late. He’s gained their attention. They turn back around, looking toward the bushes you are hiding in. You sink lower to the ground, trying to shove your body under the bush. You close your eyes, hoping if you can’t see them, they can’t see you.
But their footsteps shake the ground as they come closer. “What have we here?” One of them growls, picking you up with one hand. “We found a spy, your highness.”
“Bring him to me.” King Loki demands. You squeak as you are dropped from one huge hand into another. You shiver, the temperature of his skin is colder than you could have imagined. “Not a he, but a she.” He says amused, as he looks closely at you.
“What are you doing out here, little mouse? I warned your king that we would take anyone we found outside prisoner.” You swallow, trying to seem braver than you felt. “My father, King Erik, he did command the whole village to stay inside, your highness. I was simply curious and I wanted to see you for myself.”
Loki looks at you in the palm of his hand, amusement dancing on his features. “Your father, the king? So that makes you a princess? Are you the heir to the throne?” You shake your head. “No, your highness, that would be my sister.” You introduce yourself hoping it will get you out of this situation.
“A princess for a prisoner. What an interesting day it’s turning out to be.” He sneers. “No, wait!” You protest. He closes his hand around you, silencing you. When you arrive in Jotunheim, you are brought to a room with a giant bed, huge fluffy pillows, and a roaring fireplace. King Loki places you on the bed.
“This isn’t normally how I treat my prisoners, but you are still a princess. As long as you obey me, you may stay in this room and avoid the dungeon. You are free to walk around, and I will let everyone know that no harm is to come to you. Am I understood?”
“Yyyyesss” You stutter, you had been freezing the entire trip. You run to the fireplace, rubbing your hands together in an effort to get warm. Loki studies you, his red eyes lingering on your sheer nightgown. You really didn’t plan on getting captured when you went out, so you didn’t bother with putting on a proper dress.
You regret that decision now as his gaze lands on your breasts, heaving on your shaking form. He could see everything through the nightgown, and he was already looking, so you didn’t bother with attempting to cover yourself. “I’ll have someone make you proper clothing. In the meantime, there are extra blankets in the closet.” He walks out, leaving you with your thoughts.
Months had passed and you were settling into your new home. No one treated you like a prisoner, and you decided for once in your life to stay out of trouble. You had been given a job in the palace kitchen and you were making new friends. You were actually starting to like it here.
You giggle as your closest friend Marta, asks about your sex life. As a princess, you had to save yourself for whoever your father chose for you. You knew very little about the act itself. But Marta filled you in. She answered every question you had without judging you, and she even gave you some tips. The most shocking part was learning that a male might want to kiss you between your thighs. Marta told you there was nothing like it, so you couldn’t help fantasizing about it the rest of the day. When you laid your head down to rest, your tried to think of more questions for Marta.
The door to your room squeaked open. King Loki walked in, shutting it behind him. He gently removed the blankets from your sleeping form. You were wearing the nightgown from the first night you met him. He reaches out, his long finger grazing your nipple. The chill from his skin causing it to harden under his touch. You sigh from his attention, but don’t wake up. He carefully spreads your legs, laying down between them. His cold tongue meets your center, and you buck your hips toward him. He takes this as an invitation, long tongue lapping between your thighs.
You jump up, searching your room for him, but he’s not there. It was all a dream. You confide in Marta about it and she says it must be your conversation. It made its way into your subconscious. But you didn’t talk to Marta about it the next night when you had it or the next night. Weeks had passed and still, you had the same dream every night. It made it awkward for you when you had to serve King Loki his meals.
“King Loki has requested you serve his dessert in his chambers.” Marta told you, handing you the tray piled high with pastries, cakes, and fruit. You knock on his door, waiting for his instruction to enter. When he calls for you to come in, you bow to him. “My king, I’ve brought your dessert.” He’s propped up on his bed, gesturing for you to place it on a table by the window.
He’s so big, he nearly takes up all the room on the large bed. His muscled blue form has been the object of your fantasies for a while now. “Remove your dress, and get on the bed.” He demands. You drop the metal tray on the table. “Excuse me, your highness. I must have misheard you.”
He pats the bed, “You heard correctly, little mouse. I know you desire me. You dream of me every night. I’m only rewarding your good behavior.” You fight the urge to pinch yourself. You must be dreaming. “How did you know about that?” You manage to mumble. “I know all, little one. You can hide nothing from me.”
He beckons you with his thick finger. You do as he instructed, removing your dress and getting on the bed with him. He lifts you with one hand, hovering you above his face. “Wha- what are you doing?” You stammer. “I’m having my dessert.” He quips placing you on his mouth. His long, cold tongue covers your center. You shiver from the chill. His velvety muscle curls beneath your clit, flicking it.
He treats you like a porcelain doll, holding you as if you might break. He could easily crush you without trying. You really were like his own personal doll. He enters your untouched flesh with his tongue, rocking you back and forth on it. Your small hands wrap around his fingers, trying to ground yourself. He drinks you like it’s water, the icy muscle tipping you over the edge, making your toes curl.
He suddenly tosses you on your back, his bulky form trapping you beneath him. He settles between your thighs. They start aching as he spreads them as wide as he can. It’s still not wide enough to accommodate him. So he pushes your knees to your chest, his gigantic cock nudging your center.
The thought of ruining such a small, delicate woman driving him mad with lust. “I’ll split you in half, little mouse. You would like that wouldn’t you?” Your still dazed from your orgasm, so you only hum in response. “My sweet princess is cock drunk and she hasn’t had any cock yet.” You nod, reaching for him. “I am the first to touch you, correct?” Another hum to confirm.
You gasp when he dips a large finger inside you, curling it upwards. “I have to get you ready.” He explains. As he works his skilled finger inside you, you rock your hips, hungry for more. You whine as he removes his digit from you, but you’re not left wanting for long. He thrusts into you, and you scream. He stretches you, and you try to adjust to his size. You feel him bottom out and you wiggle to get more comfortable.
Tears fall down your cheeks, the stinging not subsiding. “My poor princess. I’m too much for her. It’s only the tip, my sweet girl.” He gently traces the outline of his cock bulging in your stomach. Loki presses on it. “I can see myself protruding out of your stomach, little one. Do you know how feral that makes me? Such a small creature struggling to take the head of my cock.”
He tilts his hips, hitting that spot that makes you see stars. Goosebumps line your arms when you feel his breath on your ear. “You’re doing so good for me, my little princess. You feel incredible. I’ll keep you forever, my little plaything.” You whimper at his words, a gush of arousal soaking him. He moans, looking at your fucked out expression. He wraps his enormous hand around your waist, thrusting you down on him, faster.
Loki roars as he releases inside you. He pulls out, spreading your now limp legs. “I want to see me dripping out of you.” He lowers his head, black tresses covering your stomach as his icy tongue laps at you once more. “What a delicious mess you made.” He coos.

So given the writer’s strike, some people are concerned about their shows and movies being postponed or canceled, and aside from the fact networks have already BEEN canceling shows for no reason for years (I still maintain a healthy anger about what Netflix did to Sense8), I thought I would suggest some books on disasters you might want to read if you’re into that sort of history. Which you are if you’re here, I imagine.
Note: I’m suggesting these books because most books on disasters don’t get a huge audience, and so I recommend them because this sort of writing can be hard on the writer and requires a bunch of research. We throw so much money at true crime, we can spare a few bucks for the stories of people who died in disasters.
Also, please check with these with your local small bookstore or library. Amazon can be great, but let’s lend a hand to those who need us more.
Recommended books:
“The Circus Fire,” by Stewart O’Nan - This is one my favorite books on a disaster, because the whole thing creates a very vivid image of the circus prior to the fire in Hartford in July of 1944. There’s one specific line in the book which always makes me pause because it’s so affecting, about how everyone who escaped being able to hear the sounds of the animals screaming as they died - except all of the animals were out of the tent by then.
“The Only Plane in the Sky,” by Garrett Graff - This, I highly recommend you get on audiobook. It’s an oral history of the events of 9/11 with a full cast, and it’s incredibly affecting to listen to.
“Ada Blackjack: A True Story of Survival in the Arctic,” by Jennifer Niven - Ada Blackjack was a badass: flawed and weak at times, but hardy and steady when necessary. Half of her story is how she survived, but half is how she was exploited following her rescue. Both stories need to be known.
“Alive,” by Piers Paul Read - If you’re watching “Yellowjackets,” this should be required reading. If you’ve seen the movie adaptation from the 90s, there is WAY more you don’t know. The story of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 is a tough read, but a worthy one.
“A Night to Remember,” by Walter Lord - This is to disaster nonfiction what “In Cold Blood” is to true crime. It’s not a long read, but it’s a great one. Lord had the advantage of writing the book while many of the Titanic survivors were still alive and could give a very good description of what they went through.
“Dying to Cross,” by Jorge Ramos - I recommend this not just because it is good, but because it is timely. Nineteen people died in an un-air-conditioned truck as they were attempting to make their way into the states from over the Mexican border. It’s a horrific story, and one that humanizes an issue for whom some people need to be faced with the humans involved and what they go through.
“Bath Massacre: America’s First School Bombing,” by Arnie Bernstein - Harold Schecter also wrote a very good book on the Bath school massacre called “Maniac,” but I have a preference for this version. It’s a good reminder that schools in the U.S. didn’t just become targets in the last twenty years or so.
“Into Thin Air,” by Jon Krakauer - I feel like this is a gimme, but it’s a fantastic book from someone who was actually on Mount Everest during the 1996 disaster and knew those involved very well. I happen to like Krakauer’s work anyway - I even like “Into the Wild” despite my feelings about McCandless and his legacy - but it’s understandably my favorite.
“And the Band Played On,” by Randy Shilts - The one thing I will say is that Shilts’ treatment of Gaetan Dugas is *rough* to say the least and outright wrong on some points, God knows. But it’s still an amazing book, and if you come out of it not wanting to dig up Reagan and punch him a bunch I’m impressed at your restraint.
“Triangle: The Fire That Changed America,” by David von Drehle - The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire is one of the disasters I am most interested in, and I would argue this is the definitive book on the subject. Also, if this book introduces you to both Clara Lemlich and Frances Perkins … I mean, talk about badass women.
“The Radium Girls,” by Kate Moore - Look, I’ll say this. If you know of the Radium Girls, this is a great book on their story. If you don’t know, go in blind and prepared to be horrified.
“Red Famine: Stalin’s War on Ukraine,” by Anne Applebaum - Ukraine has always been a target. During the Holodomor, they were victims of one of the worst genocides in history.
“Midnight in Chernobyl,” by Adam Higginbotham - Like the miniseries? This is a great source for more information for what happened at Chernobyl and all of the ass-covering involved.
"Boston Strong: A City's Triumph Over Tragedy," by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge - If you’re interested in the Boston marathon bombing, I really thought this book did a good job of connecting the stories of the victims, the authorities searching for the killers, and the killers themselves.
“Show Me the Bodies: How We Let Grenfell Tower,” by Peter Apps - As I understand it, Apps did a lot of covering the Grenfell Tower fire for the British press, and it shows. He provides a mountain of information, and you will come out of reading this book absolutely LIVID about what authorities allowed to happen in Grenfell and so many other council estates in the UK.
“Dark Tide: The Great Molasses Flood of 1919,” by Stephen Puleo - I feel as though the molasses flood gets treated like a joke a lot of the time, but y’all, twenty people died. That area of Boston was *wrecked*. The photos of the devastation are terrifying. Puleo treats all of this with the proper respect it deserves.
“In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex,” by Nathaniel Philbrick - Forget the movie. Read the book.
“The Great Influenza,” by John M. Barry - Want to read about the 1918 flu epidemic? Want to be mad that a hundred years later we didn’t learn a damn thing?
Now, that’s just a start. If anyone wants, I can always post photos of my disaster book collection on Kindle and next to my recording desk. Or if there’s a specific disaster you’re interested in, I may know of a good book about it you can read.
But just remember if SAG and the directors’ guild joins the strike too - there is so much out there to occupy your time until they come back. Entertainment work is work, and it deserves to be supported financially and fairly as such. Rock on, WGA. ✊

redacted filipino hcs & thoughts! lol
mostly about shaw pack + vamps + guy&honey
inpsired by @erial-c nahiya akong itag ka pero hiiii po
the trivia and translations are probably not accurate 🧍‍♀️please forgive my very scattered brain thoughts
darlin probably does arnis. it's why they fight like a menace 😈 sam has never known peace since he's seen em wield an ital
arnis - a ph martial art
itak - a bolo sword(?)
asher doesn't call milo "tol" bc he's not tall /j
"tol" is like the equivalent of "dude" as in a way of calling your friend
lovely & darlin would probably call vincent & sam their asawang (gets niyo ba asawa + aswang)
asawa means spouse or wife or husband
aswang is a ph mythological creature. different sources tell different things but what is mostly agreed upon is that (1) they're nocturnal (2) they usually pretend to be humans in the day time if not (3) they hide in the woods (4) they prey on children, pregnant women (specifically for their unborn child), and maybe new borns. they often get lumped with vampires though i'm not too sure how accurate that is.
aspins have a very special place in darlin's heart. sam's cabin in the woods usually have attract lots of them and they never had the heart to turn them away. in a way too, they know what it's like to being wild, dirty, street dog.
aspin - a dog breed in the ph that is sort of a mix of other breeds. they often get a bad rep for being street dogs and not having a particular breed.
vincent n his cars get featured a lot in those carspotting around manila tiktoks. whenever lovely finds em they make sure to send those to vincent lol
(this is me also hoping that vincent gets to keep at least few of them when they leave the house of solaire)
not entirely sure how the entire mate thing would translate into ph culture but even with all that david & asher would insist on doing things properly before marriage - they would mamanhikan to their partner's parents respectively hehehe
mamanhikan or pamamanhikan is a like a traditional practice of going to the fiancee's family's house and asking for their hand in marriage lol.
whenever they drive down shaw boulevard, the pack would turn to david and go "taga dito ka di ba?" or something to that effect HAHAHAHHA
"taga-dito ka 'di ba?" = "you're from (around) here, right?"
angel know it's general cleaning morning whenever david is blasting opm songs or old timey songs around their house.
asher would take panliligaw very seriously!!!!! magpapaalam sa magulang lagi ni baabe paglalabas sila!!! aabangan niya after work si baabe tapos "sabay na raw sila umuwi" galawan mo asher talbot !!!! dyan ka magaling !!!! and ofc it never stopped kahit naging sila na ni baabe :)))
panliligaw or ligaw is a more traditional pre-dating courting stage in a relationship. lol
marie has definitely said to david & asher & milo & darlin at some point na "kakaselpon niyo yan". it doesn't matter that they're adults.
"kakaselpon niyo yan" = "it's because of that (damn) phone"
this one is a bit more in general: vampire houses have THE filipino family drama. territory/progeny disputes? grudges? backstabbing? been there done that.
speaking of vamps: pre-turning, sam was once an altar boy (darlin: hahaha samkristan)
speaking of sam (again): pre-turning, he has a picture in baguio, riding a horse & wearing a cowboy hat. when darlin found it they couldn't stop staring at it for a loong while.
sweetheart LOVES singing. marie loves having them over for karaoke.
marie would drag milo's ahh every night for simbang gabi.
simbang gabi - mass service for the nine nights leading up to christmas eve.
guy's filipino nickname would be "totoy"
"totoy" is another way of refering to a younger male. addtionally, it's also often used as a euphism for a dick HAHAJAHA
guy definitely has a tiktok acct tapos don siya nagpaparinig kay honey HAHAHAHA lagi niyang kinakanta "crush" by tweens of pop
guy always does those cheesy, poetry pick up line jokes to honey like:
"cheese, cheese, cheese. gusto kita i-keese (read: kiss)"
"mga 6 out of 10. medyo pilit yung rhyme"
"honey naman 😭😓"
translation:
"cheese, cheese, cheese. i want to give you a k-eese."
"a 6 out of 10. the rhyming was a bit forced."
"honey, c'mon 😭😓."
guy and honey are definitely oa x nonchalant pairings but may i also suggest na they are jeje x pogi typings. they both definitely have kanal humor though HAHAHA
- after returning to the pack, darlin couldnt help but cry tear up after marie called them "anak" again
anak = child

Best Sims 4 Script Mods✨
wanted a masterlist on this site of my "cannot live without" mods, so buckle up and get ready for your game to finally become even better!
Note: Playing on basic hardware and think your game can't run this high of scripts? My specs are a laptop with barely 4 GB of usable RAM and the most basic cpu+gpu out there. Go ham.
⭐List is under the cut and includes scripts like "All Worlds/Secret Worlds Residential", "Travel to Hidden World Easily", top notch map/loading screen replacements, ongoing projects like "sims 4 multiplayer" and more⭐
Gameplay Tweaks:
✨Darkmode ★ By: Dskecht
As of making this, both Arnie's Darkmode/Plumfruit are broken and will probably stay that way due to their retirement. Dskecht is currently hard at work with updating theirs though, which you can find at the link above, and their main updates about patch fixes here.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨All Worlds Are Residential ★ By: Zerbu
With this, destination type worlds (granite falls, selvadorada/ect) and hidden worlds (sylvan glade/forgotten grotto/ect) become residential or whatever lot type you want them to be. You'll need the creator's Venue Changes mod along with it. Cannot explain how important this mod is.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨Travel To Venue/Hidden World ★ By: TwelfthDoctor
Quickly travel to places like Forgotten Grotto and more- all from your cell phone!
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨OMSP Shelf ★ By: AmoeBae
This "shelf" is basically a placeholder and has many slots, which doesn't conflict on placement and you can then turn invisible. If that sounds confusing, basically: wow shelf/table full of decorations instead of like two weirdly placed objects.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨More Traits ★ By: MapleBell
A lot of good traits, that I feel go well with a "maxis match" or "basegame" playthrough.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨Photographic Memory ★ By: RSVN
Take better photos with a custom camera and frame them in different frames, polaroids, canvases, calendars, ect. Beautiful work.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨Sacrificial's Mods
The creator of "Extreme Violence" brings you a ton of other elements. Armageddon, Zombies, Life tragedies, possessed or murderous children & so much more. Go wild.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨TurboDriver's Mods
Wouldn't be a complete list without the creator of "whickedwhims". Kudos, TurboDriver.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨Basemental's Mods
Mods which are full o' vices, if you catch my drift. All of their work is amazing and goes super well with sacrificial & turbodriver's work.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
More Scripts:
✨Dershayan & 20thCenturyPlumbob Maps/Loading Screen Replacements
I can't choose a favorite set- both creators have made beautiful work, though Dershayan only offers map replacements.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨More Columns in CAS ★ By: weerbesu
CAS UI is incredibly irritating and this helps by giving more columns. You have different choices for how many you want.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨Better BuildBuy ★ By: TwistedMexi
Will change your life and TwistedMexi will become like family. Oh, and did I mention it has live camera (tab key) in build mode?
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨ColorPicker ★ By: Carl's Guides
Hate the game's colors with objects? Carl is here to help.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨T.O.O.L ★ By: TwistedMexi
Total manipulation over otherwise locked assets in game (ex. non-editable player items/buildings/terrain like those freaking apartment windows you can't delete or change). This creator is currently working on a huge project for this entire community, and is also another concrete presence.
••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆••••⋆
✨Big Ongoing Projects✨
🏆Sims 4 Multiplayer
Creator Simsmultiplayer brings you something we've all talked over for years. It's released, but I haven't tested it myself.
🏆Sims 4 Create-A-World
TwistedMexi comes through once again, but this time with the most complex sims mod were seeing being developed. It has years of work already and is currently still in development. Updates at link above.
----------
Kudos to all mod + creators- big and small💞 This game has been tweaked, redesigned and literally fixed by modders time and time again and our community gets even more vibrant each day with their talents. After almost ten years in this community, I have seen such amazing work and tireless effort to creations of assets & mechanics, fixes to game bugs of all types and providing of technical support. We love you guys💖

Animal Room (1995)
Directed by Craig Singer, starring Matthew Lillard and Neil Patrick Harris, this movie is WILD. If you like Matthew Lillard, or you just enjoy strange and obscure movies, it's possible you've heard of this one! Well, I decided to write an essay on it, because I have autism I love this movie for some odd reason. Also, it is impossible to google information about this movie so consider this my version of Wikipedia for the movie, Animal Room.
WARNING: This movie, and the following post, contains a lot of dark themes. Please be aware that this movie includes murder, suicide, peer abuse, substance abuse, domestic abuse, animal abuse, rape, religious themes, satanic themes, gun violence, and very graphic depictions of pretty much all of the above.
Still interested? Alright, let's get into it then. (Also, this is really long, sorry.)
This movie is strange, confusing, terrifying, shocking, and downright disturbing. It supposedly takes place in the near future, though the exact year isn’t defined, and this can be seen through odd clothing styles and the occasionally weird setting choices. I would say a lot of it is inspired by the suburban gothic dystopian genre? (Niche, I know, but stay with me here.) Topped off with a hint of The Matrix… are you still here? Okay, cool, because it’s only going to get weirder.
First off, we need to know all of the characters, and there are a lot. Many characters have their names mentioned in passing, and as a result we don’t really know who is who, so I will do my best to explain them all.
The first person we see is known as Pink, played by Ryan Payne Bell. He’s a pale redhead with frizzy hair, typically seen wearing a bowler hat and trench coat. Pink is a part of Doug Van Housen’s gang, who we soon find hanging out on the pier of a seemingly abandoned carnival. Doug, often referred to as simply ‘Van Housen’, is played by Matthew Lillard. He has jet-black hair, styled in a messy bowl cut, and he wears multiple different outfits throughout the movie, always consisting of whites and blacks. His style could only be described as “modern vampiric”. (Which actually makes a lot of sense, once you get to know him.) His girlfriend, Shelly, played by Lori Heuring, has long blond hair and can usually be found hanging off of Doug’s arm. The other members of the gang include Eddie, Porky, and Hinge. Eddie LeMaster, played by Brian Vincent, has short brown hair and is usually wearing a leather jacket or a sleeveless shirt. Porky, played by Eddie Malavarca, can easily be recognized by his bright red (sometimes black) bandana and curly black hair. And finally, Hinge, played by Dechen Thurman, has straight brown hair that comes down to his shoulders and is always carrying, if not actively reading, a book.
As far as I can tell, the hierarchy of the gang is as follows: Doug is the leader, Shelly is his “consort” of sorts (she isn’t really treated as part of the gang, but more like an ally who gets special treatment), Hinge is Doug’s confidant while Eddie is the main instigator, and Porky and Pink are the goons who hang around just to be a part of the fun and do what they’re told. Hinge and Eddie seem to be important to Doug – Eddie is loud and excitable, likes to start shit and cause chaos, while Hinge is quiet and reserved and silently encourages Doug’s bad behavior. We see throughout the movie that Doug is often annoyed by Eddie’s behavior (along with Pink’s and Porky’s), whereas with Hinge he seems to enjoy his company. We see him often leaning on Hinge’s shoulder, listening to him explain complex topics or just zoning out while Hinge is reading a book. Their relationship is subtle, as Doug treats Hinge as if they were friends, meanwhile with the other three he’s a bit more leader-ly.
Eventually we meet our protagonist, Arnold Mosk, played by Neil Patrick Harris. Arnie is a young boy, with short blond hair and thin glasses, who is actively dealing with a drug problem. In his free time, Arnie sneaks into the school auditorium and takes hallucinogens while sitting out in front of the stage. He has no friends (minus Gary), no social life, and he talks like an absolute nerd with a cynical, nihilistic, and severely depressive outlook on life. Here’s an actual quote from him when someone asked him “What happened?”: “Oh, nothing untypical. Barbarians rarely capitulate.” … I mean, come on. Is it any wonder he gets bullied?
Anyways, we learn that the school has designed a special “class” of sorts for troublesome students, and Arnie (being a drug addict) has to be a part of that class. As a result, he’s become a target for Van Housen and his gang – well at least, he’s become a bigger target than before. There are two adults in the school who are important to the story, the principal and a teacher who acts as Arnie’s therapist. Principal Jones, played by Stephen Pearlman, is the secondary antagonist of the story, as his choice to continue the use of the "Class for Troublesome Kids" is the main issue for our protagonist, and Doug Van Housen’s abuse is simply a result of it. Meanwhile, Doctor Rankin, played by Joesph Siflavo, is Arnie’s only advocate on the schoolboard as he actively argues against the use of the "Class for Troublesome Kids" or, at the very least, that Arnie doesn’t belong in there. Throughout the movie, Arnie visits Rankin’s office to confide in him about his troubles, and in turn Rankin tries to convince him to stop using drugs.
This special class, known by the students as the ‘Animal Room’, seems to be either an all-day class or at least a homeroom for the students that are assigned to it. Principal Jones claims that the class is for the sake of the 95% of students who are not troublesome, and that the 5% who are should simply be kept away from the rest so that the majority can succeed. However, this means that the 5% of students who are not a part of the “good” population are rounded up together and left to fight amongst themselves. This classroom is found in a basement area, at the end of a long hallway filled with short flights of stairs and graffiti, and security guards sit (or, most often, sleep) outside the door. In this classroom, we find Doug Van Housen and the rest of his gang (minus Shelly) and some other students who have been deemed troublesome, such as ‘Baldy’ (more on him later) and Arnie. This room is filled with shoddy desks and chairs, cement walls lined with pipes and ductwork, and a single television which is always playing the same thing: a recording of a man dressed in all black, similar to the security guards, with slicked back hair and wearing matrix-style sunglasses. This man is usually inaudible, but is always speaking in a very authoritative tone and staring directly at the camera. Watching this TV seems to be the only thing in the classroom the students are “permitted” to do, although there is rarely a teacher, or even a security guard, inside the room to stop them from doing otherwise. If things start to get loud, however, the guards outside will come in to stop it.
Next, we meet Gary Trancer, played by Gabriel Olds. He’s Arnie’s only friend, and apparently has been his friend since they were kids, but in the past few years they’ve grown apart. Gary’s girlfriend, Debbie, played by Amanda Peet, apparently either temporarily dated or had a one-night stand with Eddie LeMaster, and as a result Eddie holds a grudge against Gary for “stealing his girl”. This, combined with Gary’s brave attempts to protect Arnie from the school bullies, makes him into a target as well.
Now that we know all the characters and their roles, let’s get into the actual story. First off, we truly learn just how bad things are at this school when Van Housen’s gang ambushes Arnie in the bathroom, and I’m begging you to skip the rest of this paragraph if you’d rather not be horrified by something that is so terrifyingly real it truly sickens me. Ready? Doug begins to beat Arnie, while Pink and Eddie are taunting him and Hinge is flicking the light switch on and off like it’s some kind of nightmare. We see Porky walk out of a bathroom stall, buckling his pants, and the boys grab Arnie and drag him into the stall, while he’s struggling and crying. Doug, who’s standing over the toilet facing Arnie, grabs him by the back of the head and shoves him face-first into the bowl filled with Porky’s shit. Arnie is gagging, suffocating, and essentially being drowned, until finally he stops struggling and allows himself to go still. The gang leaves him there, gasping, coughing, and puking on the floor of the bathroom. This scene may not be as bad in writing, but actually watching it play out legitimately made me feel sick.
Soon after, we see Arnie and Doug sitting in the principal’s office – Arnie, looking half-dead, and Doug playfully giving himself paperclip nails. The principal sits down and begins to scold both of them, as if Arnie had been equally in the wrong, and then proceeds to deal out zero punishment.
We then see Doug making his way home. He walks through a cemetery, passes by a lone guitar player sitting on a small dock playing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata (No. 14 in C-sharp Minor). His home is a giant mansion, and when he walks in he immediately strips naked in front of his butler, then walks up the stairs, leaving the butler to pick up his clothes. Meanwhile, Arnold is having a hallucination about being at a bar with creepy old men, presumably the one where he got his drugs, and is being strip-teased by a woman in white lingerie while a baby cries in the distance.
I warned you that this movie was wild, and it's only going to get wilder from here!
The next thing that happens is that Van Housen’s gang, along with Shelly, bursts into the home of Shelly’s family (Shelly being Doug’s girlfriend, in case you forgot). Her mother is upstairs taking a bath, while her father and brother are sitting at the table eating dinner. Once again, if you'd rather not be traumatized by the horrifying actions of Doug Van Housen then I suggest you skip the rest of this paragraph. They start taunting and torturing her father, who is confined to a wheelchair and begins to have trouble breathing. Eddie grabs a trash bag and pulls it over her father’s head, suffocating him for a moment before dragging him out of his chair, meanwhile Doug has climbed the stairs to interrogate Shelly’s mother, who is now wearing a bathrobe. Doug asks for the gun owned by Shelly’s father, threatening to rape the mother among other things. She slaps him, then gets the gun and asks him to leave. As the gang heads out the door, Eddie hangs back and pulls Doug aside, whispering something. The camera cuts to Shelly’s mother, sitting on the stairs, and Eddie walks up, grabs her by the hair and drags her to the bedroom as she screams.
I warned you, this movie is disturbing.
Later, in Dr. Rankin’s office, Arnie tells him a story about how a group of thugs once beat up Van Housen, and how slowly, over the next year, each of those thugs disappeared and were eventually found dead.
Later that day, Gary visits Arnie’s home to discuss how they’ve grown apart. He wants to reconnect, and they talk about going on a trip to the Caribbean, something they had always dreamed of doing back when they were children. They decide to finally take that trip in the summer, as soon as their final year of high school is over and before Gary has to leave for college. It’s important to note that Gary is the only person in the school, besides Dr. Rankin, who treats Arnie like a regular human being. Everyone else, even casual peers, see him as a freak or weirdo. Also, once Gary leaves, Arnie scolds his mother for being a drunk, and for acting weird when Gary came to visit. (To be fair, she was acting very weird, but it was obviously out of innocence, and I don’t think she deserved to be scolded like that by her own son.)
When we get to see Doug Van Housen’s room, we learn a bit more about who he is as a person, and Why He's Like That. Religious paraphernalia, paintings and statues line the walls alongside gothic hanging lamps and candles. His bed has a gigantic headboard, and we see him lying in bed wearing reading glasses, looking through a book that mentions King Henry VI.
We now get to meet Baldy, played by Huckleberry Fox, in the Animal Room. He’s drawing at his desk, while Van Housen’s gang is discussing hypotheticals, and Doug walks over and begins messing with him. Doug starts nosing the side of Baldy’s face, whispering in his ear tauntingly, then spits on the back of his head, where we see he has a tattoo of a ghoul. Baldy jumps up, turning around to yell “Why are you such a filthy scumbag?!” The gang all jump to defend him before a guard walks in to break it up.
Arnie has a hallucination about the carnival, where he finds the rotting corpse of Doug Van Housen wrapped up in plastic like a game prize. Doug asks him, “Do you see what your friend did to me?”
We cut to Baldy, who is helping to run a recording session for the band, Misfits (yes, the real band), and Van Housen’s gang is sneaking into the studio. When he isn’t looking, they sneak into the room and grab him. The band, on the other side of the glass (which is apparently one sided, as they can’t seem to see the events on the other side) begins playing again while the gang begins to interrogate Baldy for calling Doug a “filthy scumbag”. After a few minutes of torment, they shove Baldy to the ground and Doug begins slamming his head into the floor. The others look afraid, Eddie yells at him to stop, Baldy is bleeding and has gone limp. Doug wipes a hand over Baldy’s face, kisses his forehead and says “Goodnight.”
We then cut to Baldy’s father, sitting at home and staring at a picture of him, then we cut back to the gang who has now moved to their usual hangout on the carnival pier.
Shelly arrives (she must have gone home for a bit, since she had been there when Doug killed Baldy), and she’s holding a small rabbit. Porky and Pink are cooing over it, and Shelly brings the rabbit over to Doug for him to hold. She watches as he twists the bunny’s neck, killing it, and she begins crying and screaming hysterically. Porky and Pink decide to escort her home, Hinge and Eddie leave soon after, and Doug is left alone.
Pink, who is now seen walking around town, is cornered by Baldy’s father who pulls out a gun and shoots him. He falls dead on the street.
At school, in the Animal Room, Eddie pulls the fire alarm. Everyone is evacuated out of the building, but Doug corners Arnie and keeps him from leaving. Doug begins telling him the story of Job from the bible. Oh, and also he tells Arnie, “I want your blood in my mouth.”
Later, in Dr. Rankin’s office when Arnie is recounting the event to him, Rankin admits to Arnie that he’s going to be leaving the school due to a job offer. Arnie leaves, and when we next see him he has a gun. He pretends he’s pointing it at Doug, then considers pointing it at himself. We see him sitting in the school hallway, leaning against the lockers and fiddling with the gun. He puts the gun in his mouth, and a teacher and janitor catch him before he pulls the trigger. He points the gun at the janitor, who pulls out his own gun and shoots him.
Arnie ends up in the hospital, in a coma. His mother and Gary are there with him.
Van Housen’s gang, which has now dwindled to only four members, is once again hanging out on the carnival pier. Gary approaches them, holding a gun and pointing it directly at Doug. Doug makes Hinge, Eddie and Porky leave, then stands with his arms out, daring Gary to shoot. Gary screams, shooting off five rounds, each one missing Van Housen. Doug walks to Gary, carefully taking the gun from his hands. He shoots the last round into the air, then leaves with his friends.
Debbie (Gary’s girlfriend) is throwing a party. Gary is there, but sitting alone in another room, away from the other guests. Through the doors come bursting Eddie and Porky, behind them is Hinge who has Doug hanging off of him. As Doug steps out from behind Hinge we see he’s sporting a brand new look. His hair is slicked back, and a dark red circular mark is branded onto his forehead. His face is pale, and he’s wearing all black. The gang leaves, and it’s just Gary and Doug, alone.
Doug says he’s going to hurt Arnie as soon as he’s out of the hospital, and Gary tackles him. They immediately begin throwing punches, until Doug gets his hands around Gary’s throat and begins choking him. Doug tosses him to the ground, then pulls out the gun he took from him. Doug sits down on the floor, setting the gun in front of him and Gary grabs it, putting it directly to Doug’s forehead who then pulls his hand down to point the gun into his mouth. Gary backs away, dropping the gun fearfully.
Doug says, “Gary. I will be there when your children wake up. I will be there when you get married. I will be there at your next birthday. I will be there when little Arnie gets out of the hospital. You hear what I’m saying to you, Gary? I will always be there.”
“I will always be there.”
On the wall is a decorative sword. Gary takes it down as Van Housen holds his arms out, once again inviting him to make a move. Gary slashes the sword across his chest, mimicking Doug’s corpse in Arnie’s hallucination. Doug falls limply to the ground.
The police are called.
Officers walk into the room.
Doug is still holding the sword.
They shoot him.
My Thoughts:
Okay, so first of all, Gary was too good for this world. He was the only likeable character in the entire movie, and I was devastated when he died, especially because it was so sudden and they really make you think he’s in the clear. Second, Doug Van Housen, and his group, are absolutely fascinating to me. Their dynamics are just so intriguing, especially the one between Doug and Hinge. Of course, there are so many oddities about this movie that it all feels like a fever dream. The clothing choices, the symbolism, the dialogue, it’s all so wild.
Honestly, I don’t know if I would recommend this movie. On one hand I think it is fascinating, and could be very interesting to some people, but on the other hand it is hard to understand and will likely just leave you questioning things. You’re telling me Doug Van Housen has killed at least five people and faced no charges for any of those murders, when clearly everyone knows he did it? And then when Pink is killed, no one mourns him, and his death is barely even recognized by the characters. Baldy’s father had two seconds of screentime: mourning his child, and shooting Pink. That event is never acknowledged after that. Then, Shelly was so in love with Doug that she forgot who he was, she forgot that he’s a psychopath. She thought she was special, but she wasn’t. He kills her rabbit and then she’s gone, and we don’t see her again. And what about her family? They tortured Shelly’s mother and father, and they just chose not to press charges?? And last but not least, Arnold, who ended up in a coma, is going to wake up one day and find out that his only friend is dead. He was already suicidal, his mother might as well pull the plug and let him go because as soon as he finds out about Gary he’ll probably try to off himself anyways.
Really, the only way to truly understand the movie is to watch it for yourself. As far as I know there is basically no way to buy it anywhere online, and no streaming services have it. Thankfully, someone on youtube has uploaded the whole thing for free. You can find it easily just by looking it up! If you want to know when certain things happen (so that you can skip them or skip to them) or if you have any questions regarding the movie, feel free to shoot me a message or leave a comment!

Reunion
They arrived at Sveti Vlas late at night.
From what Isaiah could see, it was a small town, way calmer than the neighboring Sunny Beach—the life of all parties as Dylan explained—and way less ancient then Nessebar. It mostly consisted of summer apartments completely ghosted outside the warm season.
He also noticed the word Dinevi on every bigger hotel, yacht and store around. Funny, it reminded him of wolves marking their territory.
Since the little tiredness escapade, Hector insisted on driving through most of the day, which gave Isaiah the perfect excuse to drive for the last part. Rip was safely passed out in the back of the car from training, while Dylan was on his phone, tiktoking.
"Ah there we are. You gotta park there," Dylan said timely, without looking up from his phone.
Isaiah squinted at the dusty place with wild bushes between hotels, completely askew. "Where?"
"That's the parking lot. The visitors usually stay here. It's not like there is a place designed for parking for each apartment."
Isaiah noted the order of things here was rather... nonexistent.
"I texted Sel we were coming. She'll be here any minute-ah there she is."
Isaiah looked where Dylan was pointing and elbowed Hector dozing off with his mouth open. "Wakey, wakey. We're here."
He was getting out of the car before he finished the sentence. A whirl of blond hair crushed into him at once.
Isaiah huffed in amusement. He rarely saw Seline being this openly affectionate or emotional outside the home.
"You took forever," she pouted against his shoulder, face buried against his chest. It had been barely four whole days since they last saw each other.
Isaiah wrapped her in a hug, squeezing her waist. She had a long blue dress on that beautifully outlined her slimness. "My apologies, my lady. I went as fast as I could."
Seline giggled at the nickname. "Good." She wiggled out of his embrace but kept holding his hand as she turned to Dylan, throwing him a bunch of keys. "Two apartments for Hector and Arnie and you with Rip. Same floor as ours. You can show them around, right?"
Dylan caught the keys despite his surprise, looking at Hector, who was rubbing his eyes sleepily. Isaiah rarely saw him look so young, as at that moment, the tiredness softened his features, and the blond curls ruffled around his head.
Isaiah noted how Rip still didn't get out of the car, observing through the window. If he had wolf ears, they would be plastered to the his head.
"How come you are having Isaiah all for yourself?" Arnie complained, appearing from the darkness with Matthew in tow. His eyes and hair were touched by sleep the same way as Hector's and he had only shorts and a plain shirt on. Must have been what he was sleeping in.
Seline stuck out her tongue at the youngest Wolfson—Isaiah had never seen her like that—then sprang forward to grab Matthew's hand in both of hers. "I'm going to show Isaiah the beach. You can handle these weirdoes?"
Matthew chuckled. "Of course. No one's getting through me, don't you worry. You hear, weirdo? Out of the car with you," he called towards Hector who was starting to wake enough to scowl.
Dylan was currently trying to coax Rip out like a scared bird. Rip's dark blue eyes were on Arnie now and he looked quite frozen.
Before Isaiah could say anything, Hector ungled himself from the car and grabbed Arnie in a headlock. His posture was playful, but his gaze and tone had a current of tension to them. "Yo, pup. This is my little brother. You as much as look at him wrong, and I'm gonna break your hands and legs for the week. Clear?"
Dylan's good spirits fell at that and he stepped to the side. More away from Hector, but closer to Rip.
Rip paled, looking down. Matthew and Seline shifted uneasily on their feet, but Isaiah gave a tiny nod of approval. As drastic as that seemed, threats served as great external motivation for shadows. It was easier to avoid something, when the consequences were obvious.
Seline gave Matthew a peck on the cheek then grabbed Isaiah's hand again. "Alright, let's go! Gotta show you something."
Isaiah let her drag him forward, clapping Matthew's shoulder on the way. The red-haired wolf only gave him a grin, taking it on himself to entertain the rest of the group.
Seline led him on a downhill sidewalk with giant stones that almost made them trip right down to the beach. It was huge, had a seaport right next to it. Waves were gently rustling against the shore, the sea glittering with diamonds on the surface, a perfect full moon hanging over it.
Isaiah shook off his sneakers when Seline did her flip-flops. The sand was white in the moonlight and cold to the touch, but so so soft.
"Isn't it beautiful?" Seline said with amazement like it was her first time seeing the sea and not her favorite beach since she was a teenager. This was their family's traditional vacation for over 10 years.
Isaiah took in the enchanting landscape, the endless blue splashing around them, open into an open sea at the horizon. The quite emptiness of the beach at night had something incredibly intimate about it.
"Almost as beautiful as you," Isaiah whispered. He tugged at their connected hands to turn her around, lifting her by the waist. Her yelp turned into a laugh halfway through as he whirled her around in the air before she fell into his arms.
This wasn't a bad start of the vacation at all.

I think the other day while reading a fanfic AHAHAHHA I cry easily and I never keep track 😭
3. Do you have kids?
Nope! Don't have plans either (my mother despairs over not getting a grandkid from me 😆)
4. What sports do you play/ have you played?
I love badminton, table tennis, and arnis/kali! Used to play the first two in elementary and highschool, but still play it casually with family. The latter I took up in college but I do it sometimes when I just wanna burn off steam 🥹
5. Do you use sarcasm?
Not really! I find it hard to tell when people use sarcasm on me but I like it as a humor thing when other people use it ✨
6. What's the first thing you notice about people?
Cheeks and ears because I find it hard to make eye contact with someone I just met 🥹
7. What's your eye colour?
Brown!
8. Scary movies or happy endings?
Happy endings all the way 💛 I can do scary movies when I'm watching with someone else but never when I'm alone 😆

14. Favourite subject in school?
Used to love Math and English in elementary and highschool! In college, though, my love for a subject highly depends on the prof so last semester I was into my poultry medicine subject ✨
15. Dream job?
Honestly I just wanted to sweep floors until they're clean or do crafts and sell them as a living 😆 But on a serious note, recently I had the itch to focus my major in veterinary on wildlife medicine, so hopefully someday I'll be out there treating and helping wild animals ✨

HWS SEA but make it HetaDND
Tumblr media
Enjoy these rough sketches because I will literally not come back to them until December. 🥲
(From Back —> Front, L —> R)
VN: Bumped into a couple of Quora answers that discussed archery practice, which got me thinking about Viet as a mounted archer, and I immediately thought of the elephants that the Trung sisters & Ba Trieu rode on. So Ranger: Beastmaster — also what if the elephant was from Thai? 🫣💘 Easily a tank through her mount, but can fight well as a DPS (think OW D.Va). ID: The thing is he has the fighting style of a Warlock(: Genie?) but the character of a Paladin(: Oath of the Ancients). He’s giving CR Fjord. 😭💞 For sure, TANK. TH: He’s just a Monk. Debated on his subclass for a long time because he’s a war freak charge-into-the-frontline kind of fighter. Way of Mercy is ironic but I love the imagery of the Merciful Masks (except he gets the khon styles). Way of Shadow — it’s on one possible etymology of Siam (Sanskrit, “dark”). Easily a DPS type. MY: Druid: Circle of the Moon for the Wild Shape into a Tiger, and as of typing this I just realized the moon motif. Mostly support, but upset him just enough and he’ll easily switch gears. PH: Bard: College of Swords for the two-weapon fighting style aka arnis/kali/eskrima. Personally, he’s more DPS than support, though as a latter Dirge Singer & Siday fit the bill. SG: See, the first thing that came to mind was the RO Alchemist class for the Homonculus feature — hence, his companion Fishball. Obviously there’s Artificer: Alchemist for that, but also it would be cool if Fishball is just a “chibi” form of his patron of a water dragon— Warlock: Fathomless. Not to mention Singa would have both high INT and CHA — alas, he’s a Support guy.
(more notes under the cut)
I jokingly called this AU as Dungeons & Drawing Circles, but truth be told I’m not restricting it to being after DND, let alone 5e. Now I’m just throwing hands and calling it a fantasy RPG AU, although out of familiarity, I do refer to DND 5e often. The classes I highlighted above are just there for where I got the inspiration.
I’ve had the occasional “oooh I think [character] would be a [class/es]” hc over the years, but I ended up expanding on the AU as a means of coping with the early months of ECQ. Now there’s so many plot bunnies that I’d summarize as: your og main 8 unwittingly team up for a quest and, over time, they hit a point where they realize that they cannot fight the BBEG alone (or at least just the 8 of them), so they travel around the world recruiting allies a la Suikoden 108 Stars of Destiny.
It’s even got a literal history timeline where preceding events (and characters!!!) are involved with the BBEG and ultimately why the main 8 came together. Think playing a later game in a series where you not only get to meet the playable characters from earlier games, but you get to recruit them.
And I just wanted to draw cool fantasy looks, haha! Nevertheless, nothing is final — especially when I've clearly taken inspiration from some indigenous groups. It's why I shelved this for so long because I need to do more research and it's just not something I have a lot of free time for.

What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?
Have you noticed your style change over time?
12. What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?
Every come up with or ever posted? 😆
There's a few really wild ones still in my docs (West World style AU but Xadians are robots because robots are cool, regency stuff, Zoom-mates in space) but maybe from my posted stuff it's probably between Aussie backpackers road trip adventure, Road to Nowhere (which I blame you for, Arnie!) and Lawyer Rayla and Graphic Designer Callum modern AU, Zoom-mates.
15. Have you noticed your style change over time?
Oh, definitely. I'd like to think I've got better at conveying emotion and inner thoughts as I've written more. Whenever I read my earlier stuff (yikes), I do notice that difference in particular. I've also found I'm better at holding a POV. There was a lot of head hopping back in the day 😅
I find it especially obvious with my long fics too. The beginning of Zoom-mates or Purgatory fell quite different to the more recent chapters. Which is part of the stall in posting the final chapter of Zoom-mates. I'm editing the earlier stuff before I go ahead and mark it as "complete".

Arny Margret & Asgeir "Part of Me" (2023)
One Little Independent RecordsBuy: Bandcamp I’m going to Wisconsin this weekend. I rather thought that I’d be heading up north for a quick jolt of brisk weather, something to get me more in the mood to write about this stuff. I looked up the 10-day forecast and it was 87 in Madison today, a solid 10 degrees warmer than it is in Virginia. Just wild. I’ll just have to plug along without my…

Happy fic! To counter the other shit I've been posting. For me and Nix's Jones stuff, set back when so many characters were smol.
Daemon AU, a spring morning at the Jones Passover Get-Together.
~~
Steam wisped white off the mug of coffee in her hands as Eva leaned on the freshly bare spot on the porch railing. Rufus was a warm spot on the chest against the unseasonable chill, their breaths both puffy clouds. Near everything was covered in the thin layer of snow that had fallen the night before, the sort that crunched under your boots. Or at least under hers, they’d be woken that morning to Val and Liron yelling at the younger kids for running out without boots.
Okay, not so much that as their yelling at Casey and Harry for letting them, but still.
Nobody’d tattled on who exactly had been running around in socks and slippers, and the entire family was unendingly proud about it. Even Arnie and Sisel, no matter how much they tried to pretend otherwise. They could be as much their damming-pair’s as they wanted, it took more than that to breed out Jones blood. As it stood they’d just heaved sighs as she and Rufus grabbed their mug, all half-hearted bitching about bad influences, threats not to come next year as if they hadn’t been saying that since their oldest were big enough to find trouble. The younger pair had just laughed, in as close to harmony as you could get with such different lung capacities, and headed outside- pausing just long enough to give Devin, curled up under a blanket by the fireplace with his own tea, a kiss, with another for Harvey as he and Dolly dragged their way towards the kitchen.
No one missed Passover if they could help it, and the greatest evidence was right out in the yard. The snow was practically cleared, the bright green of the grass a stark contrast to the white of the rest of the world. The pounding feet of- Eva took a moment to do a headcount- thirteen pairs of children running around, human, hybrid, daemon all, did that. Even if they can’t have been up even an hour. Really, they were all lucky the babies were too young to join them, and Val and Liron had deemed themselves Too Grown Up to run around in whatever wild game it was Casey and Harry seemed to have thrown together.
Aunt Francie and Sel would’ve had nothing left but mud.
“You know,” Rufus said, his small voice crisp in the morning air, carrying a playful tone like a leaf on a breeze. “I don’t think we’re gonna be able to keep having Passover here passed this lot.”
“Hm?”
“Thirteen here, four more in the house-” He fluffed himself a bit more against the chill and Eva lifted the mug so he could leech some extra warmth from it. “-at this rate we can expect up to thirty in the next generation.” She snorted, shaking her head with a grin.
“Hey now, if our girls take enough after Devin and Jubi they’ll have thirty all on their own.” Rufus’s peeping laughter was like windchimes to her ears as she scanned the crowd for the toddlers in question. Was hard to pick out anybody specific with all the running, yelling, laughing, but she’d have put money the owlet managing a weasel’s war dance around Vio and Inanna was Annelie. Those two were taking so much after she and Rufus’s siring-pair, they wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up another mustelid for the family.
“Okay,” he said, “we can expect over fifty. And we’re too stubborn to die young, we’re gonna have to worry about it.”
“No, Liz and Marzell are gonna have to worry about it,” Eva pointed out, turning as waving as their Aunt Abbie and Jesse (they had too many Jesses in the family…) stepped outside, tailed after by Charlie, Saph, Jake, and Saria, “they’re the oldest.”
“Do we want to know,” Jesse asked, a laugh already on his whiskers.
“Just talking about the kids,” Eva said, trusting Rufus to keep his eyes on them. Odds were against something happening, but they were a rambunctious bunch. Plus, a host of Jones kids, you couldn’t be sure some sort of portal to nowhere wouldn’t just open up under them.
“And the menaces your branch’s are,” Charlie teased, Saph laughing loud and low as he and Eva set to sticking their tongues out at each other. They were cousins, it was allowed.
“And whether they’re gonna have enough of their own to chase us out this house,” Rufus said. You could just about see the realization that he had twin girls, whose grandma’d had twins, trundle across Jake’s eyes. Saria just gave an amused huff and took a seat by the railing, tail lazily wagging.
“If I don’t get at least four grandchildren,” she said, “we’re stealing some of yours.”
“You’ll have to fight Devin and Jubi for them, remember,” Abbie said, having by now cleared a spot on the rail for herself and Jesse.
“We could take ‘em.”
“Can you take Eva and Rufus though, once you kick their favorites’ asses,” Saph pointed out, flopping over in the snow as Charlie finished clearing a space on the stairs and sat down. Saria took a moment for that, she and her other half eyeing the other pair up. Eva just smirked at them, Rufus gesturing a challenge with his beak. Eventually both sets fell into laughter.
“Probably be safer to just pressure the kids, take whatever Liz and Mar do to us for it,” Jake said, throwing up his arms as her went round to their other side. Saria made a big show of tucking her tail between her legs as she followed, like she wasn’t damn near skipping.
“Damn straight,” Eva laughed as they all turned to watch the kids as they talked, conversation settling into the same old easy old. Work, love, family, promises to remind each other to tell that one story once everyone was together for lunch. Offers to hunt down enemies, with promises to let everyone know if it came to that. Silence when one of the kids hit the ground hard enough to pause the play, or things almost passed sparring into proper fighting. Gentle coos when Tony and Rochelle ran over with a scraped palm for their grandpair to kiss better, immediately dashing back into the fray once exposed to ‘gramma magic’.
By the time the youngest kids started to flag, the snow was melting under the morning sun. Eva’s mug dangled empty from a few fingers, Rufus perched comfortably on the rim, as she watched the eldest of the kids start grabbing up the toddlers- two under Casey’s arms and three small daemons on Ketty’s back- and start heading for the house. It was enough, alongside JJ pulling the others back into their play, for a strong dose of pride to settle in her gut. She reached out and ruffled Eddie’s hair as they all passed, smiling bright alongside the others, nodding their approval to the older set. Proper Joneses, all of them, looking out for each other like no one else could. It was the sort of thing that left you warm, Especially when you looked in the sliding doors and watched the little ones getting bundled by the fire, folks asking after how the games were going, Sid and Elah getting scolded for- she was certain- telling their siblingpair to get the sticks out their butts and come play, a cousin seeing her through the glass and raising a coffee pot in offer.
Could damn near bring a tear to a weaker woman’s eye.
She loved her family so damn much.
