It was a morning the same as the rest but unique for you. It was your birthday! The sun's rays brightened the room; you slept very peacefully for someone taking up most of the bed, arms sprawled out and legs dangling off the bed; the only thing together was the snugness of your bonnet tied across your hair. Oh, you were a natural sleeping beauty in that bed.

Nose taking a whiff of the newly scented air, your eyes were wide awake. As the smells had your senses under hypnosis, you left your bed sitting opposite the kitchen island, and you sat quietly watching your boyfriend cook.

"How do you want your coffee?" Jason asked, and as you pondered over your coffee preferences, you couldn't help but be captivated by the view before you. The muscles of his torso were on full display, moving rhythmically with each action he took. The muscles contracted and flexed with a fluid grace. It was a live exhibition of human anatomy in motion, each muscle group working in seamless coordination—his shoulders rolling, his spine flexing subtly with each reach, and the distinct lines of his muscles weaving across his back.

"MC?"

"A lot of creams and none of the sugar," you replied, your eyes still glossed over watching him; you may have forgotten bedroom talk is only in the bed

Moving over to hand you your plate, he set down a coffee for you, only with a little bit of cream but a whole lot of sweetness.

"Happy Birthday, MC," Jason congratulated; the smell of the coffee alone perked your spirits right up. Looking at your plate, you couldn't imagine Jason making this for you. He had been quite the chef, but this was next level: blueberry pancakes, each fluffier than the next with a buttermilk syrupy inside, deviled eggs that were just as devilishly good, and sausage.

"You didn't have to do this," you suggested, but as you as you ate, your stomach would say otherwise

"I wanted to, doll, so you're just gonna have to deal with it," Jason said, leaning forward and kissing you, gently and yet perfectly attached to your lips. You wouldn't have stopped before he pulled away.

As you finished your breakfast, you watched Jason get dressed, his holders strapped around his thighs, and he strapped his boots on.

Holding his jacket, you offered to put it on him; turning around, he made himself accessible for your help, rubbing his shoulders when you were finished putting his coat on.

"I'll see you tonight. I've got another surprise for you," Jason commented; he turned around, hand wrapped firmly around your waist as he pressed you up against his chest and planted a firm kiss on your lips.

Pressing a side button, his helmet shielded his face; putting his hood on, he opened your window and left.

My thoughts on Task Force Z #6

Honestly I was pleasantly surprised that this was good! I don’t think it’s perfect because I still have a few critiques, but Task Force Z is looking promising for Jason fans.

Let’s get started:

These two pages are the most interesting and hold the most conflict. The rest of the issue is good but this scene will definitely be the most talked about because of Bruce and Jason’s dialogue.

We’ve seen Bruce and Jason argue before, except in this issue, it’s not about their differences in moral code, but it’s actually about Bruce having difficulty in trusting him even though he gave the case to Jason for him to figure out what’s going on. So Bruce and Jason are semi-working together here.

Jason: “I’m not your responsibility anymore”, 

Bruce: “No, Jason, you’re my fault” 

Jason: “I’m not something you built. [...] You’re a father to me” 

This makes me mad because DC loves to pull the “child soldier” angle, and Jason saying that he doesn’t want to be seen that way is *chefs kiss* because I hate the “child soldier” discussion. It is so annoying because it doesn’t apply here!

Jason: “You brought me into this world of yours and all I got was pain, and death, and the constant reminders that I’ll never measure up to you or Dick. And I know that.”

Jason talking about his death here makes sense, the part I'm a little iffy with though is when he says that he’ll “never measure up to Dick or Bruce”. I’m not sure why their making Jay act the way he used to be when he was Robin, because at that time, yea, he was insecure about being good enough for the mantle which makes sense, that's a lot of pressure for a kid (and he still had a great relationship with Dick too!). But Jason here is 19-22 and he is aware of his skills/competence so I don't understand what they're going for here. Is he having trouble being a hero? That could be an interesting angle to go for but I don’t think that in this situation he would compare himself to Dick or Bruce like this, because he is also aware of their own flaws. I don't think this is a shade to Dick or B btw, but this could've been done a bit better maybe?

Jason: “I made mistakes because I was scared, and I was angry, and I was hurt. You know why? Because the man who raised me wasn’t there when I needed him. But I’m (beep) trying here. So now I’m trying to make right what I’ve done on my own and I just need him to trust me.”

This part is so good! I really like how its emphasized here that he was angry AFTER he died and NOT when he was Robin! It’s a retcon that I’ve always hated because it's so ooc. Jason saying that he was hurt because of Bruce’s betrayal is amazing! THIS IS A HUGE WIN!

Jason: “Can’t you just trust me?”

Bruce: “This is what you’re asking me? Look the other way while you run around with Two-Face and Bane? I can’t. Not for you and not for anyone.” 

Bruce is so weird here, he literally asked Jason to figure out what’s going on and he's getting in his way like? Yea, he’s technically working with those 2 because he was literally kidnapped by them so he doesn’t really have a choice, but B isn't giving him a chance to explain anything? Bruce where’s your common sense lol?

Jason: “If there’s no hope for them to be saved, then there is no hope for me either. So now the choice is yours, you can fight us, and if you win you can lock us away in Arkham or Blackgate. But it’s ALL of us.”

I think Jason is trying to prove a point to Bruce in a dramatic way that if he can get a second-chance then they should have their chance too. Since second-chances are what Bruce believes in, Jason uses that to his advantage for Bruce to let them go. And it works of course because Bruce is dumb. I don't think Jason would actually believe that he’s similar to his zombie teammates since just moments before he was bickering with them lol and saying “I’m not working with Bane, Dent.”

Jason: “Otherwise we have something we need to stop, something bad that will hurt a lot of people. So I'm asking you, as the man who trained me, the man who raised me, a man who cares so much about what is right... Will you please just get the (beep) out of our way?”

Ugh this part is so good, I have nothing else to add at the moment!

Overall this comic is good! It’s not perfect for sure but I think this is a pretty good comic for Jason to be in. I’m not going to comment yet on Jason’s moral code or his new path to vigilantism because it is NOT Rosenberg’s decision, it’s DC’s executive decision (so it wouldn't be fair). Rosenberg is working with what he’s been given and I think that with Jason’s new direction, Task Force Z is a fun read. Thank you!

I recently watched Encanto and I literally cannot get over how amazing it is. The songs—*sharp inhale* chef’s kiss. The characters—*incoherent shouting because I don’t know how else to express my adoration for this movie* AMAZING. As those who read my Azula&Zuko-centric fic and my Jason Todd fic know, I LOVE FAMILIAL CHARACTER DYNAMICS. Just can’t get enough of them. And the Batfamily is a prime example of a fandom I have spent hours poring over, digging out absolute jewels of fics and filtering out what I clearly consider incest (please don’t, guys, just don’t). So, I wanted to make a connection between Encanto and the Batfam, specifically which songs apply to which members. I’m probably going to write some more when I have time, but Tim’s my favorite child, so let’s start off with him! Just a warning, I have not read any Batman or DC comics. All my knowledge (or lack thereof) comes from fanfics. I tend to embrace fanon more than canon anyway. I hope y’all enjoy my sort-of character analysis of our very own sleep-deprived, caffeine-addicted sad boy!

Waiting on a Miracle - Tim Drake

Tim has always been an outsider in the family. He was the one who forced himself in, not for his own sake and ambitions, but because he believed that Gotham needs Batman to survive. He realized that Robin was the only one who could save Batman, and since Jason was gone, Tim himself would simply have to do. However, as he grows closer to the family, he begins to long to be a part of them and be loved by them, and for a while, he starts to think that maybe it’s a real possibility that Bruce, Dick, and Alfred might actually care about him, not just what he brought to the table as Robin. Then Jason returns. He’s furious that Tim has supposedly taken his place. He nearly kills him multiple times, but is eventually brought back to the fold because he’s the prodigal son coming home at last. Tim is happy. How can he not be? Jason was his Robin, and bringing him home is far more important than some silly feelings he may have about seeing his torturer walk past him in the halls. It doesn’t matter that he flinches at every sudden movement Jason makes. It doesn’t matter that his breath comes a little quicker when Jason slings an arm around his shoulders. It just doesn’t matter. Time passes. Things get better. He and Jason have gotten closer, everything seems to be going well. Then Damian appears. The lost son. He tries to kill Tim, nearly right off the bat. Dick tells Tim to be patient, to be the bigger man, he can do that, right? Because Tim is so mature, Tim’s an adult. Tim is sixteen, but he just smiles and nods. Then Bruce disappears. Tim knows he’s alive, he has the foundations of proof, he just needs more evidence, just needs to find him. He goes to Dick for help. The first Robin, the man he considered his older brother, responds by threatening to send him to Arkham if he doesn’t drop it. He rips away Robin from Tim and hands the mantle to Damian. The kid has tried to kill him three times now. Tim leaves. Months later, he returns with Bruce. He’s applauded, admired, and respected in the hero community, now more than ever, but it feels so hollow (especially where his spleen used to be, but what’s losing an organ compared to the importance of the mission, the mission that can’t go on without his fa—Batman). He never has much time to himself anymore, with all his responsibilities as Red Robin and the CEO of Wayne Industries, a role that Bruce continues to leave to him, saying that he wants to spend more time with his family. Alright. Tim can take a hint. He knows when he’s not wanted, which is basically the story of his life. But on the days where everything is sluggish and somber and sad and his heart feels like it’s about to implode and he kind of wishes it would so he wouldn’t have to deal with the stubborn ache in his chest whenever he looks at the Wayne family loving each other, just being a family… Tim wishes. He imagines. Not to be the first son, or the prodigal son, or even the blood son, but to have a place all his own in the family. Even just a little one. To be seen as more than a tool at best and a nuisance at worst. Tim hopes for a miracle.

i love AKA Knight so so SO much. i just read the latest chapter and OMG!!!!! could it be any better???? absolutely not!!! i was dying for more so i went back and reread the whole thing and *chef's kiss* it is a masterpiece! everything EVERYTHING about it is so so SO good! from the way they're both battling their own demons to the way the world's built to how well their characters come through - it's a work of art! truthfully, i'm not familiar at all with the arkham knight verse of jason's story so i'm basically reading this blind but jessica is so well written!!! i LOVE jessica jones and i love how she's going through it - not only is she facing challenges where she gets to show her grit and skills but she also ... just .... idk how to describe it - i just love the way you write her so so SO much!!!! One thing I think of when writing this crossover fic is that, what if I get a reader who knows one fandom but not the other? I want my story to be entertaining and understandable for anyone who may stumble upon it, so I try to pay extra attention to details- settings, character descriptions, etc. So, judging by this ask, IT WORKED! 🥳

The Arkham series is what REALLY got me onto Batman, so it has a special place in my heart

Y'all, I'm so excited for Gotham Knights.

Both as a batman and bat family fan. This game is looking to offer a lot in terms of both gameplay and add an extreme amount of story. I especially am excited to see what they end up doing with Jason.

Right off the bat (lol) I love his design. They show that he's large and imposing. Physically intimidating. As well as bringing back his white streak with a clean short haircut and s scar that extends from his mouth all the way up his head. His design is just *chefs kiss*

However upon looking at his promotional information I was immediately grabbed by his bio. They mention something very specific about this universe's Jason that is very unique and peculiar.

The top text pretty much establishes what is already canon and what we know about Jason to be true. The death, Lazarus Pit, his anger, etc. This also poses the fact that we will probably see a Jason in-game that is very volitile and easy to anger. (That's hot) but what's most interesting is the bottom text. "After reconciling with the Batman Family, he's embraced Batman's non-lethal combat methods" what's so striking to me is that Jason and Bruce seemingly made up prior to the events of Bruce's death. As Jason got the message of Bruce's death, and as seen in the image prior (the one with Jason's face) we see Jason is visibly hurt and shocked. He's taken aback by the announcement. While I think any iteration of Jason (Pre-New 52 straight up-villain Jason or New 52 Anti-Hero who is half trying to get Bruce to love him, half telling Bruce to fuck off) would be shocked of Bruce's death announcement. We get to see Jason's reaction first and foremost and it's very personal and emotional. This brings up a point that's been bugging me ever since I saw the announcement of Gotham Knights.

What happened to Jason that made him reconcile with Bruce?

This post is speculation as to what I think may have happened to Jason to cause him to turn around and be welcomed back into the Bat Family.

I think that the events of Under The Red Hood still happen but either Bruce or Jason kill the Joker.

It's a stretch. But hear me out. We know the most defining moment in Bruce's and Jason's joint story is the confrontation between Bruce and Jason over the Joker and Jason trying to force Bruce to kill the Joker.

Bruce decides he cannot kill the Joker. Now the movie and the comic differs on how they handle the ending. In the comics, right as Jason is about to pull the trigger, Bruce reacts and throws a Batarang at Jason. Slicing him in the neck. Severely injuring him but not killing him. In the Under the Red Hood movie, Bruce, when faced with the option of having to chose between killing the Joker and just letting Jason kill him. Bruce turns and walks away. He readies a Batarang because he predicts (correctly) that Jason will retaliate out of confusion because he sees Bruce as rejecting him again. Not understanding that Bruce is simply chosing not to be involved in the situation.

I think Jason turning around to Bruce could happen most likely because the events of Under the Red Hood transpired differently. We know Joker still exists in this universe because Jason's death and resurrection is implied to be the same. But we also know that Barbara Gordon's paralysis during the events of The Killing Joke are still canon in this universe.

What if this universe follows the canon of the movie in that when Bruce turned away from Jason, either Bruce verbalized to Jason that he doesn't care what happens to the Joker, right now, he's chosing Jason, and although he doesn't want Jason to kill the Joker, he's letting Jason decide.

What if Bruce still throws a Batarang at Jason and instead of staying still, Jason brings the joker up and uses him as a shield? Killing the Joker or severely injuring him as a muscle reaction to protect himself from the Batarang. We know that the reason why Jason is so antagonistic towards Bruce is because Bruce didn't kill the Joker and let him continue to kill and injure people after Jason's death. And that inaction is directly what happens

The WB Montreal team (the team making Arkham Knights) hasn't confirmed if The Joker is in thw game. We know the confirmed villains are The Court of Owls and Mister Freeze. With Two Face being hinted at through promotional material. But there is no direct references that The Joker will be in the game.

I may be looking too deep into this. Jason may have just turned around as a result of Bruce's demise. But I like to think of the potential character interactions we could see in Gotham Knights. I want to see a Jason that has properly reconciled with Bruce and is trying to make amends. Only for him to lose Bruce and run the risk of falling back on bad habits. Is Jason still antagonistic towards Dick and Tim even if Bruce accepts Jason as The Red Hood and is able to help reform him? Is Jason still the bitter, almost acidiccly snarky and biting character his in Scott Lobdell's characterization of Jason if he reconciles with Bruce? Does he still call Tim "replacement" and such if he's accepted and recognized and given the support he needs? How does the rest of the family react to Jason? Are they apprehensive?

There's so much to look forward to with Gotham Knights and I'd love to know what other people think. With an exciting new take on Jason's character (as well as being able to play as Jason in an RPG based setting) we get to have an extremely diverse cast. All of the Robins are played by Asian American voice actors and Barbara is played by a Latin-American voice actress. Stephen Oyoung is a fantastic casting for Jason because he already has a lot of exposure as a VA who plays villains. Christopher Sean is going to bring so much fun as Dick (for those who don't know he voiced Kazuda Xiono in Star Wars Resistance and Ludwig in Epic 7) America Young is the current voice of BARBIE and is also going to bring so much to the role of Barbara Gordon. And while Sloane Morgan Siegal is the new face of the bunch, from what we saw from the promo he's bringing a great new take on Tim Drake that's going to be refreshing and exciting.

I love your works so much, and you have such a talent for story telling and world building. You have a grasp on these characters that would be so easy to have been a side note but even down to the interactions with Dick, Jason, and Tim you have nailed the dynamic between them.

The way you wrote Bruce in this last chapter was so spot on, it reminded me of how he tortured himself in the Arkham Knight game over Jason.

I truly truly look forward to your writing, no matter the timeline, because you are gifting us this treasure that you have put such time and effort into making it a quality read. It’s compelling, there’s plot, there’s motivation behind every movement, and it fits. It fits the characters, and their world.

So i just want you to know, I’ll always wait. No matter how long it takes for the next chapter or the next work, I’ll wait because I know it’ll be worth it. And I hope that you know that I appreciate the stories you tell, they’re masterpieces in their own right and a bright spot in my day.

There’s a big different between excitingly saying “I need the the next chapter” or “I literally can’t wait for the next part,” than people asking a million times “when are you posting?” “How long is it gonna take for you to write the next part?” “Do you have a publishing schedule?”

i once went through all the Arkham games i had and played them in “order” - Origins, Asylum, City. (Knight was nearly impossible for me to play and so i caught up by watching a playthrough by a dude who was probably actually Batman bc he was flawless; the dude never fucking got hit, perfect combos, thorough playthrough and had additional playlists for side quests and Riddler bullying. he’s also done the other games. bless him into the sun) (and to add on to that it was fucking disappointing as hell you get me hard telling me my boy Jonny Crane’s gonna be the main course and dessert and assure us that Joker is gonna be super dead, Mark Hammill is done playing Joker, City was a really nice sendoff, and then he’s fucking not and Jonnyboy gets fuckall nothing???????????? because everyone is so wet for Joker that they need to be hooked up to an IV???? fuck Joker. fuck all y’all. Worst Psychiatrist Ever Jonathan Crane deserved so much more and his model was so goddamn hot and not to mention getting John Noble to VA????? super appreciate Jonathan Banks as Gordon tho top notch but HELLO???????? Henry is suspiciously out of frame or obscured in the first flashbacks here, now that you know to look for him.

Vecna's meant to be like early 30s by the time he gets chucked into the Upside Down, right? The timeline sort of works, the original Creel murders were 1959, and the series started in 1983, so that's 24 years. If Henry was 10 or so in '59, I cam buy it. It's just that JCB looks so young for his age I guess.

Max's guilt over not trying to save Billy is what gets her to volunteer to distract Vecna later on.

As fucking awesome as the Master Of Puppets scene is later in the season, this Kate Bush bit might be the best scene overall. I thought the music was louder though. Maybe that's for the reprise when they're fighting Vecna in Episode 9.
