Assorted headcanons for the MAMIYA DDD Family ending [spoilers abound!!]

Here's a compilation/archive of messages I posted in the MAMIYA fan Discord about a continuation of the Family ending in Keito's route. In my version, Ryou also gets taken into the family along with Osamu, Satoru, and Keito. I call them KORS for short.

This is absolutely not serious or angsty in anyway, because I was writing this as aftercare for Minato's route lmao. I've sorted through my many messages and did some reorganizing, so they're grouped by topic. (Bolded names: indicates a comment from a server member)

Keito's New Family!!

For the first two months of living together keito is terrified, but ryou being 7 gets over the whole thing in like one month. Like this is just his new normal

Keito starts getting over it (stockholm syndrome starts setting in) once he sees satoru teaching ryou how to make takoyaki

You know i think crab takoyaki could work. I dont like crab but crab meat isnt that far off from octopus

Even after Keito gets over the whole kidnapping thing, he still takes a while to acclimate to his new "family". Like satoru osamu and ryou get used to the family situation pretty quickly (because they are not close to their birth families) but keito is very close to his family so he has to grapple with the cognitive dissonance for a good while

By six months time, he's used to their living circumstances and has affection for the three of them, but in his mind theyre housemates, not family. Like when someone asks about keito's family, his mind still immediately goes to his parents

It probably takes a year or so for keito to finally think of them as his family

Idk how the family thing is going to go. Like theyre changing their legal last name to mamiya???

Scanning over japanese name change procedures and thinking maybe not<3 i think japanese bureaucracy might be worse than american

Maybe its possible that satoru adopts ryou and osamu into his family registry so everyone thinks theyre a gay couple with a child, but then theyd still be samejimas

(It would be better of them to be samejimas instead of arisugawas because satoru owns all the houses. Obviously)

And then keito would be. Well they can't adopt him too because keito's dad is literally satoru's boss

Samejima could fake keito's death and keep him away from his family? BUT I FEEL LIKE THEYD BE FOUND OUT PRETTY QUICKLY IF KEITO WAS LIVING WITH SATORU

Well maybe its a non-legally binding family where satoru and osamu are back to living together again, satoru has pulled strings to get ryou adopted by osamu, and then he twists keitos arm into moving in with them as roommates

(Or keito moves in of his own volition, with his main motivation being that hes SUPER CONCERNED ABOUT LEAVING RYOU IN THERE)

Would osamu and satoru still be fighting at this point. I think the years apart would have calmed them down a little

Instead of punching satoru, osamu just slaps his a-- you know what never mind. Actually i think they would just verbally argue but without much bite. Because theyre family now

Vaguely remembering that bit in arisus route where osamu was like "we were partners in crime and i was even thinking about asking her to marry me" well osamu you have a new mamiya who you have committed several crimes with so what will you do now.

[Editing note: I want it noted that my brain short-circuited when Satoru was like "I feel like a newly wed bride". why did he say that]

General KORS Family Fluff

Osamu is the one who picks ryou up from school most of the time because he works from home but the first time keito does it ryou is just so happy. Ryou thinks keito is the coolest

Satoru is the one who teaches ryou how to cook so when hes older ryou ends up with really weird culinary skills. He does not know how to fry an egg sunny side up but he can whip up hollandaise sauce like its nothing

Satoru starts ryou in some kind of martial arts class and osamu hates it because ryou keeps trying to show osamu his skills (ie punching him in the leg)

Keito is still playing in a college lacrosse club and the whole family comes to watch his games. When ryou cant see over the crowd (i dont know what lacrosse games look like sowwy) satoru puts him on his shoulders

Osamu and keito take turns reading ryou his bedtime stories. Sometimes when they both have time they both read to him. Osamu is really good at the evil monster voices and robot voices, and keito is better than him at doing female voices

Despite being shorter than keito, satoru cannot fit into his jackets and coats because his shoulders are just to broad. He can fit into some of osamus longer coats because osamu likes buying clothes a size or two too big. Few of their clothes are viable hand me downs for ryou because he grows up short

Wait. But maybe ryou would grow up to be taller in this scenario because keito makes sure he drinks his milk. So maybe he would fit in their clothes

Satoru's Parental Tendencies (& other adults in Ryou's life)

(Growing realization) i think after keito and ryou move out for work/college, satoru would have the worst empty nest syndrome imaginable

(Assuming osamu satoru or keito doesn't set their house on fire with everyone inside in five years time)

Satoru ends up like a clingy overbearing mother who gets really upset when keito wants to move out for his Vaguely Defined Future Career and only calms down once osamu is like "uhhh dude chill" and keito promises to facetime every day

(I just think this is really funny because keito has his own family who is alive and who he is on good terms with but his actual mom puts up way less of a fuss than satoru)

After that satoru starts redirecting all his attention and affection towards ryou and is just overall insufferable

Ryou: im thinking about going to kyoto for college Satoru: absolutely not you will choose a school in tokyo and you will live in this house

Satoru is the strict parent who is prone to hysterics and osamu is the laissez faire parent who has to console his wife (i am of course delusional). Its like a sitcom

Keito rounds off ryou's Trio of Adult Figures as the unconditionally supportive older brother so i think between the three of them, ryou grows up to be pretty okay??? As okay as you can be when youre a member of the Mamiya family ig

They all frequently go to dinner at the suou's too so ryou is decently close to keitos parents

New Car!!

Anyway. If they all moved in together, satoru would have to buy a new car

Now i think a honda accord would be a good car for a family of four, but it might be a bit cramped if two of them are over 6ft tall, so it might be better if they had an suv

And also satoru loves his foreign cars so he wouldn't buy honda anyway

Okay so the volkswagon touareg could be a good option because it is a luxury suv from germany. However pre 2006 this suv was REALLY big so i dont think it would fit very well in the streets of japan

Cheese: samejima also is really big and doenst fit well in the streets of japan

Suvs werent as big of a thing in 2003, so maybe satoru would go for a sedan anyway... If satoru's going to gravitate towards european luxury brands, then the mercedes benz s class would be perfect for him. Its about the same size as a honda accord

During my playthrough of DDD, the KORS family au helped keep me sane. I think it's a neat idea. i think if it actually happened (and Osamu and Satoru took Ryou in as well) they would've started murdering people within the year, but this isn't about that!! If I wanted insane angst, I would replay DDD Keito/Ryou.

I kind of want to write some sort of fic about this weird family... But after playing EX, my brain has contacted the natsumiya virus and I haven't been able to stop thinking about that. So we'll see lol. I might archive some of my AU twitter threads for that ship onto tumblr, too, because I'm pretty fond of what I wrote.

"Criminologist Himura and Mystery Writer Arisugawa" (2016, 2019+)

This tv show is a really good spiritual successor of the original Sherlock Holmes stories. Though the main characters have different names, it is clear who is based on Sherlock (Himura) and who is based on Watson (Arisu). 

This series does an excellent job showing the bond between these two, with the season one finale even having the two attempting to categorize their relationship & settling on an inseparable bond that is strong than friendship. A few minor characters seem to be interested in Himura, but it is always one-sided on their part. The main series is not romantic.

The first season is streaming on Amazon, but the second is still not available officially. This thread here talks about season two (no spoilers listed)

What is Criminologist Himura and Mystery Writer Arisugawa about? 1) I'm there for whump and 2) Takumi Saito is in it and he was in The Prince of Tennis live-action musicals and that is something I refuse to ever let any of the actors let die (and he's hot but that's not the main point here)

This is Himura:

He’s tall, hot, and has hair you could use for emergency squirrel housing.

He works as a criminology professor, but on the side helps the police solve murders. And boy, is he wonderfully dark, oh god i love it. Crime scenes and the idea of murder enthrals him, and he has frequent nightmares about stabbing someone to death:

He seems equal parts mortified and thrilled by his desire to kill, and tends to zone out / hallucinate at crime scenes while imagining the murder. Quelle normale. Boy’s got problems.

SO, enter Arisu.

Arisu is a mystery crime novelist, and has been friends with Himura since college. They obviously mean a massive amount to each other, and it becomes clear that Arisu considers himself the only one keeping Himura from the brink of turning into a gleeful serial killer. His nightmares involve him not getting to Himura before he turns to a-murderin’:

God i love this kind of relationship, with Arisu always keeping watch over Himura and being careful to snap him out of it when his dark thoughts threaten to overtake:

Not only does he not want Himura to kill anyone, he also doesn’t want the police swarming around the crime scenes to see Himura grinning like a loon at the idea of murder. Understandable really.

Arisu is a sweet heart, a goofy softy, and he can get upset at the crime scenes and desperately angry with the murderers:

It carries over into his desperation to keep Himura from becoming one of them i think.

Then we’ve got the big bad:

She’s wonderfully terrifying this lady - all kinds of smooth, evil and in control, and after meeting Himura she’s desperate to set his murderous side free. Also apparently desperate to smell him, which, you know. Weird.

There are some pretty cool side characters (including their housekeeper who seems like family, and an awesome policeman who really sees Himura’s value), but honestly who gives a crap about those with these two amazing blokes out there being all kinds of goofy and angsty and relying heavily on each other? NOT ME.

There are some fun moments inbetween the angst, and ALSO THERE’S A CAT can it get any better no it can’t thank you the end.

Circle You

So, this was a short little songfic/ficlet that I wrote after I finished watching the Jdrama Criminologist Himura and Mystery Writer Arisugawa (highly recommend.  Please go watch).  You can also find this ficlet over on AO3 here.  It was inspired by the Vocaloid song “Kagome, Kagome”.  English Cover found here (I suggest listening to it while reading this ficlet)

It was a quiet night as Hideo Himura lay in his bed, Arisu’s soft tapping of his laptop keys in the background.  Himura listened to the soft tapping of the keys for a little while, their soft sound soon lulling him to sleep.

~*~*~*~*~

Himura soon awoke to find himself in a strange clearing, with dead trees and dead grass all around.

“Hmm?  Where am I?” he wondered to himself as he pushed himself to his feet, looking around.  He looked around for a moment before he noticed a strange looking building not too far from where he had woken up.

“Hmm” he hummed before he slowly walked over to the building and stepped inside, noticing how delipidated and worn down the building look, with vines growing through the cracks in the building.

There's a building hidden in the dark,

Long abandoned in which no one talks;

Himura slowly began to walk down the hall until he came upon a door with a brass knob, immediately noticing the blood that had seeped into the wood around the doorknob.  He then turned the knob and opened the door, only to find the room full of children.

Down the hall into the farthest room

Children gather in this ghostly tomb

The minute the children saw Himura, they all smiled and dragged him into the room, the door slamming shut.

And smile, for they were waiting here

Especially just to play with you.

Himura looked at the children and frowned.

“Why are you here?  Where are your parents?” he asked.  The children said nothing as they just surrounded him, creating a circle around him.

All the happy faces, such happy faces!

They know you'll join them soon.

Himura frowned and wondered what they were doing as they slowly began to circle him.

Circle you, circle you,

Stay with us and play forever.

At the words “circle you”, Himura froze, eyes widening slightly in horror.  Those words had haunted him ever since he first met Sanae Moroboshi, when she softly began to sing those words to him.  He looked at the little children, who just looked up at him and smiled.

Circle you, circle you,

Close the door and leave us never.

Himura gulped; he wasn’t a man who was easily frightened, Arisu was the one who got frightened more often than him, but there was something eerily off about the children circling him.

'Til we see the rising sun,

This is only the beginning.

Himura frowned.

“Beginning?  What do you mean beginning?” he demanded, but the children ignored him and continued to circle him.

Circle you, circle you,

Aren't we having lots of fun?

Himura growled before he knelt down so that he was eye-level with the children, who unlaced their hands and stopped circling around him, staring at him.

“What is this place?  Where am I?” he demanded.  One of the children, a little girl who looked no more than maybe four or five, tilted her head at him.

There's a home within the forest clear,

Hiding secrets that no one can hear.

Himura frowned.

“Secrets?  What secrets?  Is this that home?” he asked.  The children nodded, making Himura hum.

“I see” he murmured.  A little boy, no older than three, then tugged on his trench coat.

Shred the broken body from the mind;

Immortality through death's design

Himura looked at him and narrowed his eyes.

“Immortality?  Is that what they’re trying to do here?  Find immortality?” he asked, trying to figure out what the situation was in this strange building.  All of children nodded again, making Himura stroke his chin.

“Interesting…” he murmured, just as the door opened and Arisu Arisugawa stepped in.

“Oh?  Himura?  What are you doing here?” he asked, raising an eyebrow at his friend. Himura turned to look at him, frowning.

“I should be asking you the same question” he stated as the children ran over to Arisu and circled around him, laughing with glee.

While laughter and the children's hands,

They come together in the room,

"It is time," they said, "close your eyes," they said,

"And we'll all play Circle You!"

Arisu smiled as he looked down at the children playing around him while Himura watched him with narrow eyes.

‘What is Arisu doing here?’ he thought to himself as the children began singing again.

Circle you, circle you,

Can you feel time creeping closer?

Himura frowned at that phrase as Arisu looked down at the children.

“Eh?  What do you mean by that?” he asked.  Just then, the children stopped circling and look up at him.

Circle you, circle you,

I'm so sorry; your turn's over.

Arisu frowned and Himura was growing more concerned.

“What do you mean “his turn’s over”?” he demanded, just as the door opened and two men in white lab coats stepped inside, grabbing Arisu.

“Hey!  Let go!” Arisu shouted as the men dragged him out of the room, much to Himura’s horror.

“Arisu!” he shouted, rushing after him, only to blocked by the children.

“Get out of my way!” he snarled, but the children didn’t move.

‘Til we see the rising sun,

They take heads from off our shoulders.

Himura froze, eyes widening in horror.

“What?  Where are they taking him?” he demanded.  A little girl looked up at him and made a slicing motion across her throat before she smiled.

Circle you, circle you,

Aren't we having lots of fun?

Himura shook his head, shoving the children out of the way before he rushed out the door and ran down the hallway until he came upon another room, one that had no door, but curtains instead as a barrier.  Himura growled and threw back the curtain, only to find Arisu’s headless body on the ground, his head a few feet away, blood spray everywhere.

“Arisu!” Himura screamed, running over to his friend’s body, kneeling beside it.

“No…no…Arisu” he whispered as he reached out with trembling hands, gently picking up Arisu’s body and cradling it close to his.  This was it; his greatest fear and nightmare had come true.  He had lost Arisu, in probably the most terrible way possible.  Himura hugged Arisu’s body tightly, not caring that he got blood on his clothes because it was Arisu, damn it!

“I’m sorry…Arisu, I’m so sorry” he sobbed, head bowed over Arisu’s body.  He stayed like that for a while, hugging Arisu’s body close to him, whispering apologies over and over before he sniffled and picked up the body, carrying it out the curtained room and back to the room with the other children, who no longer looked like normal children, but horribly tortured and experimented children; with bandages covering eyes that could no longer see or limbs that were no longer there.  His eyes widened in shock before he steeled his expression and walked into the middle of room, placing Arisu’s body down on one of the play rugs before he walked out of the room, heading back to the laboratory to retrieve Arisu’s head.  He then picked up Arisu’s head and looked at it, eyes tearing slightly at the sight of shock on his best friend's face; the last expression he would ever make.  Himura shut his eyes and took a deep breath before he opened his eyes again and headed out the door, back to the children’s room.  When he returned, all of the children were gathered around Arisu’s body, staring at it in wonder.

“Get away from him” Himura hissed as he walked over to Arisu’s body, placing Arisu’s head back where it would be attached on his neck; gently reaching up to shut the man’s eyes so that it looked like he was sleeping.  He then knelt down next to the body, staring at it for what seemed like forever before he looked up at the children, who came to surround him again.

The children then smiled as tears began to stream down their faces, revealing how much pain they had endured and how much pain they were in.

The children undying, they smile through their crying,

In a game that never ends.

Himura looked at them before he huffed and stood up, heading for the door.  He was going to find those doctors who had killed Arisu and then he was going to finally fulfill his wish of killing someone.  He normally would never cross the line and let his inner monster out but when it came to Arisu well…he wouldn’t mind crossing the line.  Especially if it was avenge him.  However, his plans for vengeance were put on hold as the children rushed in front of him, blocking his way again.

“Get out of my way” he snarled.

Circle you, circle you,

You can't run so stay awhile!

Himura scoffed and made to shove them out of his way when they suddenly grabbed him and tackled him to the ground, holding him down.

“What are you doing?  Let go of me” he growled, struggling against the children, but for children who had been tortured and experimented on as much as they had, they were quite strong.

Circle you, circle you,

They won't hear your screams for miles.

The children then began to laugh as Himura struggled against them, but once again, he found that he couldn’t move, which he found to be quite irritating.

Let's play 'til the morning light

Play until they come to get us.

As he struggled, Arisu, a complete and whole version, stood above him.

“Arisu?” he whispered.  Arisu said nothing and instead smiled, but it wasn’t his normal smile, it was the smile that Arisu told him to never let the police see; the smile of a psychopath.

“Arisu?” he repeated.

Circle you, circle you,

We'll have fun tonight.

Arisu just smiled as he produced a knife out of thin air before suddenly attacking, plunging the knife into Himura’s chest.  Himura stared up at him with wide eyes, both men holding eye contact until Arisu stood up, taking the knife out of the wound as he stood.  Himura continued to look at Arisu until black spots began to dot his vision and suddenly everything went black.

Himura shot up with a gasp and clutched at his chest, right where Arisu had stabbed him, and panted harshly, genuinely scared.

“Hideo?” a soft voice called out, making Himura turn and look at Arisu, who was kneeling next to him, looking at him with big concerned eyes.

“Are you okay?” he asked.  Himura stared at him for a moment before he slowly reached out, gently touching Arisu’s neck, much to his confusion.

“Um…Himura?  What are you doing?” he asked gently.  Himura said nothing and continued to gently touch Arisu’s neck before he sighed and took his hand back.

“Nothing.  Just a nightmare” he murmured.  Arisu continued to look at him in concern.

“Are you sure you’re okay?  This nightmare sounded worse than you other ones” he stated.  Himura was quiet before he nodded.

“It was” he admitted, his voice soft.  Arisu stared at him for a moment before he motioned to the bed.

“Scoot over” he ordered.  Himura looked up at him, frowning.

“What?” he asked.  Arisu motioned to the bed again.

“Scoot over” he repeated.  Himura frowned before he did what he was told and scooted over, allowing Arisu to lay down on the bed next to him, wrapping his arms around him, causing him to stiffen.

“What are you doing?” he asked.  Arisu smiled as he snuggled closer to Himura.

“I’m scaring your nightmares away so that you can sleep” he replied.  Himura was quiet before he wrapped his arms around Arisu and hugged him tightly, buried his face in Arisu’s hair.

“Thank you” he murmured.  Arisu hummed as he made himself comfortable in Himura’s arms, almost immediately falling asleep.  Himura listened to his breathing for a while, the sound incredibly comforting, before he too fell sleep.  And just as Arisu said, he slept through the rest of the night with no nightmares.
