Kid ages in the Ninjago universe are so wild to me because:

Sally is probably older than Nelson (She’s probably around Antonia’s age) which means she was around for everything, and we just didn’t know her (this is a bland start I know, but it’s just so fascinating)

Brad, Gene, and Other Sally are older than Pink!Sally, Sora, Arin, and Wyldfyre

The age gap between Nelson and the ninja could very well be the same as the age gap between Nelson and Sora, Arin, and Wyldfyre

Harumi is (most likely) the same age as the Darkley’s Gang

Remember Jake from SoFS and Crystallized? Yeah he’s probably older than Arin (We don’t know how long it took for the merge to happen after crystallized, so this could not be true) which means that if he showed up again, he could have graduated to long legs

Jake could very well be the same age as the ninja in the pilots

Random Ninjago headcanons

Somewhere in-between Seabound and Crystallized, Lloyd reconnected with Brad, Gene, and Sally, and they hang out sometimes. Brad works at a flower shop, Gene has an internship at Borg Industries, and Sally is studying to enter university.

Sally is a trans girl and left Darkley's after coming out.

Lloyd is on the asexual spectrum. (I love projecting onto my favorite characters)

Kai is bisexual and listens to Chappell Roan.

Cole and Kai used to date in secret, they eventually broke up after their feelings for each other faded.

Cole and Kai once tried to take a dance class together after finding out Jay and Nya took one. It didn't work out.

Cole straight up doesn't understand when someone is hitting on him, he just thinks they're being nice.

Zane knows how to sew.

Nya has a fondness for animals. As a child, she once tried to beg Kai to let her keep a stray cat that followed her home. He folded, but the cat ran away after a day.

But anyway, with Frohickey, Arin, and Sora he seems to play an act of an independent, serious, stoic guy. But that is obviously not him. Yes, he is more blunt and smarter than the other ninja and that definitely helps him play the part, but it's not like he's void of any sense of humor. He's learnt by mirroring everyone around him how to express himself more while talking but he seems to hide it around a select few.

Maybe I'm looking too deep into this but foomf agrees and thats all that matters

Not an ask per se, just a similar feeling. You’re someone whose Ninjago stuff, here and on YT, I’ve really enjoyed for at least a few years. And I’ve been similarly obsessed with the show for some time. But… it’s as you say — DR is objectively fine, objectively nice, but I don’t feel the same obsession about it and its characters, plot, etc that I used to feel all the time with Ninjago. And I *cannot* figure out why, and it’s also been driving me slightly up the wall. It’s maybe because I genuinely try to give media the best chance when I interact with it, but despite multiple DR rewatches I don’t see what everyone else sees. And the disconnect is a sad, like you mention — I joined the community here because I was so glad to have people who loved this show in the same ways I did, and now it’s like they’re all on a different wavelength and I want to be there but I’m not. It’s definitely strange for sure, made worse I think by the fact that DR isn’t like horrifically bad or anything, I just feel… okay, when watching it, and can’t even explain why.

I don’t know how much sense this makes, but I thought it might be something for you to think about if you’d like. I’ve been tossing around the idea that I don’t love DR because it is… good. It’s good, but too neat — if that makes sense? The new characters — I love them all, but their personalities and backstories and situations they’re put in all remind me of several other stories. The subplots of the episodes always have an end goal in mind, often an emotional realisation, and whilst that’s a neat way to tell stories, it doesn’t feel like, to me, the way Ninjago used to tell stories. Like, the first thing that comes to mind is Sora feeling hopeless and that episode with the djin where she realises that it’s important to hope. And maybe this isn’t a great comparison (as I’m typing it out, I realise that it isn’t the best example oof), but I immediately thought of Zane after Seabound, when he’d turned off his emotions. Sora’s bad feelings, whilst not as ‘significant’ as Zane’s in that context, began just before and were wrapped up neatly in that episode and not brought up again. Zane acts detached from the start of S16 if I remember, and it’s only near the end of the season (I think! I know that it’s a few eps at least) when he meets Sally, talks to her, learns a little about her life, and is able to come to the realisation that he shouldn’t be repressing everything. I think DR, because of the amount of characters it has, especially those that are new, and the amount of new worldbuilding, plot stuff, etc that they have to add in, it being a reboot/sequel type of thing, leaves less time for the nuance and time devoted to the character arcs in the original show. Or maybe I’m just crazy, honestly idk.

Something else that stands out to me is the fact that DR has to establish so much about these new characters and their world that they… they do something that old Ninjago didn’t do, and whilst it’s maybe objectivity a better storytelling choice, I think it’s part of the reason I’m not really feeling it. What they do is that they have the characters act kind of realistic. Arin worries about his parents, often. Sora did too. Wyldfyre and Kai definitely have a few moments where it’s implied that they’re confused about what’s up with their powers. In Ninjago up to s16, because they wrote a lot of it without intending much or anything to come after it, I feel like they thought less about this than the DR writers, who know that they’ve got a few seasons lined up, do. For example — hands of time is when we find out about Ray and Maya, but it was never often addressed by Nya and Kai. It’s brought up in s4, of course, but if they were real kids whose parents had vanished one day they’d probably bring it up more often, like Arin did. But it’s often not done in the narrative because the writers gave them other things to focus on, because they’re storytelling devices and not real kids. There was no real buildup to Nya being the water ninja, for example, but Sora’s said to be good with tech a few moments after we meet her. This ain’t a critique of either show — just a different choice I sort of picked up on, if it even makes any sense. And as crazy as it may sound, I liked that about the old Ninjago — it saw the characters more as storytelling devices, I think, than relatable to the audience (Kai was the hothead, Jay the humour, etc — ofc they were more than that, but they retained that sort of vibe from S1 a little all throughout the show I think). DR, on the other hand, seems to want their characters to be more relatable, more multifaceted, make more sense — which, when coupled with the fact that they’re new characters and that the ninjago fandom has historically thrived on gaps in the show to enjoy it (we’re a very AU, OC, heavy fandom, etc), I think DR attempting to flesh out their characters in the way that we’re often used to doing with the old characters in fic, art, etc means that I like DR a little less because there’s less to ‘work with’, and less that inspires thinking of the characters in different situations — bc whilst relating is nice, it is also enjoyable when the characters are written with some core characteristics in mind and you explore other parts of them or those characteristics in different contexts. I don’t think makes much sense, but I hope that it maybe gives you something to think about — as you can probably see, I’ve been going a little crazy over not liking it and not knowing why, so I know that the feeling isn’t great.

I'm picking up what you're putting down here. My next video has a bit about getting disillusioned with a fandom, and it sucks. It always does. It's heartbreaking when you feel like that special bond between you and your show was somehow broken. I empathies, and it's important to feel it out.

Now, I don't think ninjago was better at character arcs, i don't think having a character arc be longer is better, or even really a characteristic of classic ninjago, but I do think the DR character arcs feel very by the book. They're following the screenwriting 101 guide perfectly, but it ends up feeling a bit lacking because of it? If that makes sense? Now, ninjago was historically very bad at character arcs, but when they got it right, they always had a bit of a spin on things, and interesting visual payoff, whatever. I think the zane's emotions arc isn't particularly great (and the sally piece is sort of at the end of the first half of the season ;) I would argue sora's arc in season 1 about finding confidence is better, but that doesn't mean I find it much more enjoyable.

I will agree that that the characters in ninjago definitely feel more like characters, while the DR cast (old cast included) feel more like people. Neither are a bad thing, but I think it definitely has an effect on the tone. Characters allow for a more lighthearted goofy vibe, because the show is operating on a higher suspension of disbelief most of the time. DR on the other hand, does want a little more vulnerability from its audience on a regular basis.

Lastly, I do think you're onto something with DR being fully planned. The two seasons we have so far feel very indistinct. There is less of a defining singular "adventure" in each season. And again, that's not a good thing or a bad thing, but it ends up making things feel different. Ninjago is an episodic series of adventures. DR is a continual evolving set of circumstances. Those are just going to feel different.

Each character will be limited to 3 max (exceptions pending)

Daryll:

Greedent - Looks just like him, Matt said so himself. Calls it Grant. It gets confusing.

Meowth (Galar) - Scruffy just like Daryll. Evolves into Perrserker, fitting Daryll's barbarian class. Named it Aragorn on a whim and wouldn't change it even when people told him it doesn't fit.

Kangaskhan - Loving, protective parent. Inherited from Frank as the baby of his own Kangaskhan now grown up. Named it after his grandmother, Sally.

Henry:

Cradily - No brainer. Best of both interests (nature and geology). Named it Lily. Simple, sweet.

Carnivine - Thorn Whip/Entangle/Grasping Vine! Also representative of his more aggressive nature that he pushes down until he snaps. Named it simply Flower cause he wanted to associate it with nice and gentle imagery.

Trevenant - Had it since he was a boy and both lost their memories when they were transported to earth. Gifted to him by Beary to help attune him to the Doodler's eldritch nature within him by interacting with the ghost type. Made of the husk of an oak tree. Perhaps possessed by the lost soul of an Oakvale child. Can learn Will-O-Wisp, which is a good enough justification for Wall of Fire for me. He never named it.

Glenn:

Beeheeyem - Had it since it was an Elgyem, but doesn't remember catching it. He remembers getting high in the desert one night, then waking up with a new friend. He doesn't even know the species name, he just calls it Star Wars.

Rotom - Let's it chill in his amps or guitars when at home and in his vape pen when on the go. When it possesses his electric guitars it can play loud even without an amp. Calls it Lil' Dude/Lil' Man/Lil' Guy/Lil' Buddy. It responds to all.

Pikachu - of all the characters, he feels the most right to have a Pikachu. What's it's name? Nick Jr.

Glenn hasn't technically captured any of his pokemon.

Ron:

Herdier - His first pokemon that he had to give up long ago. Named Rogue.

Greavard - It found him one day.

Paeden:

Tyrogue - It's the same size as him and he found it after joining the dads. He fought it himself. Calls it his Rival.

Walter the Immoral:

Honedge - The sword that gave him his name. He never wanted a pokemon, but when the sword he crafted broke and killed that hero, it became possessed and returned to him. Has no name, and he barely refers to it. Good friends with Paeden.

Scam Likely/Well Actually/Scam Actually:

He has no set team. Every time he crosses paths with the daddies he has a different pokemon accompanying him, even if they were only separated for an hour.

Golurk - Created it himself. He considers it something of a magnum opus. Refers to it by its species name.

Dragonite - His ace up his sleeve. He lets it guard the O-Dads compounds and bases. Calls it Raymond Dio Labot.

Bill:

Slaking - His oldest pokemon. Extraordinarily powerful, but just as lazy as he is. Calls it Brother.

Exploud - He likes it loud. Taught it to beatbox and Willy fucking hates it. Calls it Rock and/or Roll.

Rotom - Glenn's Rotom. He bequeathed it to him some time before he "died". He's the one that started calling it any variation of "Lil'" that Glenn caught on to.

Really stupid question, but are Sora or Arin ever referred to with they/them in Dragons Rising? I recall having heard rumours of this around when the show was first releasing, but I can't tell if it's actually the case or if it was just somebody's headcanon.

Kinda curious as to what Ninjago's gotten up to representation-wise these days, especially since I heard there was a Hijabi character at some point.

None of the new main characters in DR use they/them pronouns, sadly.

There is one episode with a non-binary background character. I don't think their pronouns are used in dialogue, and I don't remember them being named, but...

...the arm flags pretty hard to miss. Again, they are just a background character in a single episode, but they're there.

Euphrasia's probably the Hijabi character you heard about. She wore a hood/hijab type garb in srason 1, but she seems to have stopped wearing it in season 2, so it seems to be a 'no' on that end.

(Might be for the best. I'm not an expert on muslim characters, but Euphrasia is one of the Writer of Destiny, who you may remember from season 5, and I did see a post going around expressing concern about having the only notably Muslim-coded character being strongly affiliated with what basically amounts to a fake religion. Would be very cool for a different character to wear a hijab, though.)

Lego does seem to be going for more curly hairstyles in general though, so that's cool.

Nani Ulina Kartika Nasution Kepala BPKP Lampung

Gubernur Lampung Arinal Djunaidi mengukuhkan Kepala Perwakilan Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan (BPKP) Provinsi Lampung, Nani Ulina Kartika Nasution yang menggantikan Suyarsih Fifi Herwati, di Mahan Agung, Bandar Lampung, Senin (22/1/2024). Pengukuhan tersebut berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Kepala BPKP Nomor : KP.01.03/Kep-588/K/SU/2023 Tentang Pengangkatan dan Pemindahan Jabatan Pimpinan Tinggi Pratama di Lingkungan BPKP. Dalam sambutannya, Gubernur Arinal mengucapkan selamat bertugas kepada Ibu Suyarsih Fifi Herwati yang mengemban tugas baru sebagai Kepala Perwakilan BPKP Provinsi Banten, dan selamat datang serta bertugas kepada Ibu Nani Ulina Kartika Nasution di Sai Bumi Ruwa Jurai. "Saya mengucapkan terima kasih dan memberikan penghargaan kepada Ibu Suyarsih Fifi Herwati sebagai Kepala Perwakilan BPKP Provinsi Lampung, atas kerja samanya selama ini dan telah memberikan kontribusi yang signifikan dalam perbaikan tata kelola pemerintah yang baik," ujar Arinal. "Selamat datang dan selamat bertugas kepada Ibu Nani Ulina Kartika Nasution sebagai Kepala Perwakilan BPKP Provinsi Lampung yang baru. Saya berharap Pemerintah Provinsi Lampung dan BPKP dapat terus bersinergi, berkolaborasi, dan menjalin komunikasi yang baik guna tercapainya tata kelola Pemerintah Provinsi Lampung yang lebih baik lagi," tambah Gubernur Arinal. Gubernur Arinal menjelaskan bahwa dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan pengawasan tugas-tugas pemerintahan, baik pusat dan daerah, peran BPKP sudah besar dan sangat berarti dalam mengawal akuntabilitas program-program pemerintah pusat dan daerah yang ada di wilayah Provinsi Lampung. Mulai dari bidang Ketahanan Pangan; Pembangunan SDM; pembangunan ekonomi; percepatan penyelesaian infrastruktur dan konektivitas; akuntabilitas keuangan negara, daerah dan desa; hingga penguatan penyelenggaraan pemerintahan yang baik dan bersih serta mengawal Agenda Prioritas Pembangunan Daerah (APPD) Provinsi Lampung. "Pengawalan Keuangan Pembangunan yang dilakukan BPKP tersebut khususnya di Provinsi Lampung dapat dirasakan manfaatnya, terutama dalam mengawal perbaikan tata Kelola pemerintah yang lebih baik," ujarnya. Ke depan, BPKP yang selama ini sudah banyak memberikan kontribusi terhadap pengawalan akuntabilitas pembangunan di Provinsi Lampung, diharapkan akan tetap meneruskan melakukan pengawalan, mulai dari perencanaan sampai dengan akuntabilitas. "Pemerintah Provinsi juga berharap kepada pemerintah Kabupaten/Kota, instansi vertikal, BUMD, BLUD akan terus bekerjasama dan bersinergi dengan BPKP untuk meningkatkan kualitas tata Kelola, pengelolaan risiko, dan pengendalian intern untuk mewujudkan pembangunan yang berdampak bagi masyarakat di Provinsi Lampung," ujar Gubernur Arinal. Dalam kesempatan yang sama, Deputi Kepala BPKP Bidang Akuntan Negara Sally Salamah menyampaikan ucapan terima kasih kepada Bapak Gubernur Lampung Arinal Djunaidi atas perhatian dan dukungan dalam pelaksanaan pengawasan intern. Dia berharap Provinsi Lampung di bawah kepemimpinan Bapak Gubernur semakin maju, berkembang, dan sejahtera. "Kami juga menghaturkan terima kasih dan penghargaan yang setinggi-tingginya kepada Bapak Gubernur Lampung yang telah berkenan mengukuhkan Kepala Perwakilan BPKP Provinsi Lampung, Saudari Nani Ulina Kartika Nasution melanjutkan Saudari Suyarsih Fifi Herwati," ujar Sally. Sally juga berharap Kepala Perwakilan BPKP Provinsi Lampung yang baru, dapat diterima sebagai mitra kerja, sehingga kerja sama yang telah berjalan dengan sangat baik selama ini antara Perwakilan BPKP Provinsi Lampung dengan Pemerintah Provinsi dan Kabupaten/Kota maupun instansi Pemerintah Pusat se-Provinsi Lampung, dan BUMN/BUMD/BLU/BLUD serta stakeholder lainnya dapat terus dipertahankan dan ditingkatkan. Sally menuturkan agar pertemuan pada hari ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk memperkuat komitmen seluruh aparat Pemerintah Pusat dan daerah di Provinsi Lampung untuk bersinergi dan berkolaborasi dalam menyelenggarakan agenda Pembangunan sesuai dengan tugas dan fungsi masing-masing. "Seluruh aparat pemerintah harus fokus pada pelayanan dan peningkatan kesejahteraan masyarakat, dengan tetap menjaga akuntabilitas keuangan dan kinerja, serta menerapkan manajemen risiko dan pengendalian intern yang memadai," jelasnya.
