I have completed my newest sewing project: Memories of Kyoto

Everything in this piece, including most of the materials used to create it, is to remember things I saw or did while on my recent holiday in Japan, focusing in particular on things I experienced in the few days I was staying in Kyoto.

The central feature is Toji Temple in the middle of Kyoto (the fabric actually came from a shop in Tokyo, not Kyoto).

The backing fabric is from the Little Indigo Museum in Miyama, a small village in the mountains near Kyoto.

The umbrella is made of Shibori dyed fabrics from the Shibori Museum in Arimatsu where we had a Shibori dying workshop (and where it absolutely chucked it down with rain all day).

The woven stitch at the bottom is a reminder of the weaving workshop I had in the Nishijin district.

The beads for the raindrops and the variegated thread used in the weaving stitch and hanging cord came from an amazing haberdashery shop we went to in Kyoto.
