just watched episode 5
image spoilers for "keep reading"
there are so much irony for this one (+ ani-one's "translated subtitles)
remember when duramente went to dubai and fucking lost?
this year kitasan's son, equinox managed to win dubai G1
youtube
during the interview, duramente said that she's going to the arc
guess what? it is poorly aged.
so the takarazuka kinen scene when they literally about to reach the finish line. marialite river light had a fucking surprise attack that went kitasan to say "GIRL, WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU" and both lost that day.
and finally here comes aged well moment
"I won't lose it to you, again."
she made a promise to duramente that she won't lose to her again. although it is never came true, it is still a brief moment to their progeny.
arima kinen
kita's son managed to beat dura's son, titleholder
takarazuka kinen
then dura erede.
and finally
SHE NICKNAMED HER AFTER HER DAUGHTER + DURA EREDE FOR EXTRA POINTS
for the final thoughts, this episode gave me too much of the most ironic moments if you see through the real racehorse events. honestly, it is not that big deal for this unless you want to search up in netkeiba.

Jungle Pocket Horse Racing | Winning the Japanese Derby and the Appeal of Famous Horses
2024/12/03 02:42
Jungle Pocket: The trajectory of famous horses that graced the horse racing world
Jungle Pocket is one of the most popular racehorses in the Japanese horse racing world, and his name is familiar to many horse racing fans. Jungle Pocket was born in 1998 and made his name known in many races. Of particular note was his overwhelming victory in the Japanese Derby (Tokyo Yushun) in 2002. With this victory, Jungle Pocket engraved his name in horse racing history and became a beloved figure among many fans.
Jungle Pocket's father is the famous American horse Special Week, and his mother is Jungle Cruise, so his bloodline is also attracting attention. His balance of speed and stamina is highly regarded in the horse racing world. He is particularly strong in long-distance races, and his running was truly spectacular.
Jungle Pocket made his debut in 2001 and quickly showed his talent. He attracted attention from the beginning and achieved great results in many races. In the Japanese Derby in 2002, he left the rest of the field far behind and won the race. This instantly established Jungle Pocket as a top racehorse. After that, he continued to show his fans his running ability by competing in many famous races such as the Japan Cup and the Arima Kinen.
Jungle Pocket's distinctive feature is his racing style. He is able to race very calmly, but his explosive speed just before the finish line is what makes him so appealing. In addition to his talent as a racehorse, he also has mental strength, and his calmness is what brings out his strength.
Jungle Pocket was also very popular after his retirement and was active as a breeding stallion. His children also became excellent racehorses, and Jungle Pocket's bloodline is still passed down in the horse racing world. In particular, Jungle Pocket's descendants have inherited the balance of speed and stamina, and will continue to attract attention in the horse racing world.
Jungle Pocket's impact on the horse racing world is immeasurable. He gave horse racing fans dreams and excitement, and created a new standard for racehorses. His name will continue to be remembered and loved by many people for a long time to come.
Jungle Pocket is an indispensable presence in enjoying horse racing. Many fans were fascinated by his running, and his achievements are still talked about in the history of horse racing. The mark that Jungle Pocket left behind will continue to have a major impact on the horse racing world.

Question (Supernova chapter 1)
𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 read the main post for warning, notes, and synopsis.
"Sakura Star O-san, are you really skipping the Arima Kinen this year?"
It's the same question again and again from different reporter. Arima Kinen, huh? Only a select group of umamusumes get the honor to run there, and eventually only one will emerge as the champion. Of course I want to answer everyone's support for me there if I'm given the chance-- no, I 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 answer all their cheers even if not now. But if I consider my current condition...
"I--" "Sorry, we're unable to provide an answer at this time. Please excuse us". My trainer once again stepped in to answer for me. The reporter seemed unsatisfied with my trainer's response, but he couldn't refute it and eventually left. "Trainer-san, thank you for answering it for me as always~ but don't worry, I can answer the next question myself!", as I say while copying all the reporters's gesture to lighten the atmosphere since my trainer has been looking so tense lately. "Star O, you don't need to force yourself to deal with them since it's my job as your trainer. We're at the academy's ground, not in the middle of a press conference" she said, her face is etched with tension, even though all those questions were directed at me.
My trainer stretched, sighing, "Let's head back to the team's room. We need a break and some tea." As we're about to go back to the room, I can hear some footsteps running in our direction. When I look toward the sound source, a flash of pink hair caught my eye. As she ran closer, I recognized her as Sakura Chiyono O, my junior teammate who had recently won her debut race. When our gazes met, she exclaimed "Star O-san! Shouko-san! I've been searching for the two of you!" while trying to compose her breath.
Without hesitation, my trainer asks "Chiyono O-san, is something wrong?" with a concerned voice to Chiyono O who had been running around the school looking for me and my trainer, Akeichi Shouko. Chiyono O replies, her face pales, "Umm... I can't explain everything here, so let's head back to the team's room right now!"
After a brief argument, we agree to run back to the team's room under one condition: we'll run as fast as Shouko-san can. I suggest to carry her to speed things up, but she declines, saying, "I don't want to put more fatigue on your legs." Chiyono O offers to carry her too, but she declines again, saying, "You've been running quite a while, so don't waste unnecessary energy this time." I suggest that the two of us carry Shouko-san together, but both Shouko-san and Chiyono O look hesitant, so we return to our original plan.
I have a gut feeling that there is some problem waiting for us in the team's room, similar to what we faced today. I hope it's just my imagination. "I wish there is some peace left for my trainer in the team's room," I though to myself, trying to savor this brief, leisurely run.

Uma Musume 3 – Episode 8 - Kitasan Tries to Find Her Dream and Reason to Run
Nature wonders why Kitasan is crying again, Last time, sure, Kitasan sang on the same stage as Dia after she only got second on the Arima Kinen. However, Kitasan still feels down, and I became apparent why. Continue reading Untitled

Note
The horses you face scale in difficulty with their historical races/periods. For example: Vodka in Scarlet's run is nigh unbeatable in the derby, Maruzensky/C.B. has multiple S rank stats and Gold Skills in Chiyono's run, etc. Since these are races you're not meant to win, then Rudolf in a hypothetical C.B. run once she's implemented would be the literal final boss since C.B. lost to Rudolf IRL in the Arima Kinen. Wouldn't be surprised if she has multiple SS+ in stats haha.
AS EXPECTED

The horse girl anime is cute and I got curious
They say at the start that every horse girl inherits the name of a famous real-life race horse, so I went and took a look
This is fairly long because there are a Ton of horse girls so feel free to press J at any point
Special Week (Japanese スペシャルウィーク, foaled 2 May 1995) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. Between 1997 and 1999 he won ten of his seventeen races including three at Grade I level. After winning his only start as a juvenile he emerged as a top-class performer in the following season: he won the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) and three other Graded races as well as being placed in the Satsuki Sho, Kikuka Sho and the Japan Cup. He later became a successful breeding stallion siring the Japanese Horse of the Year Buena Vista.
Silence Suzuka (Japanese : サイレンススズカ, (March 1, 1994 - November 1, 1998) was a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse who won the Grade I Takarazuka Kinen in 1998. In the same year, his career and life were cut short by an injury suffered during the running of the 1998 Tenno Sho.
I sincerely fucking hope this isn’t foreshadowing
I couldn’t find anything on Fuji Kiseki except that he/she was japanese, won 4 races in a row and was sired on 1992
Maruzensky is actually Special Week’s mother, go figure
Taiki Shuttle is a flaxen chestnut horse with a large white star, bred and owned by Taiki Farm and trained by Kazuo Fujisawa. The horse won important races in Japan and in France. Taiki Shuttle was voted Japan's Champion Sprinter/ Miler in 1997 and 1998. In the latter year he has also named Japanese Champion Older Male Horse and Japanese Horse of the Year. He has been inducted into the Japan Racing Association Hall of Fame.
Haru Urara (ハルウララ) is a Japanese racehorse. The horse gained nationwide popularity in 2003, not due to her success, but rather, due to a long string of consecutive losses. At her debut, on November 17, 1998 at the Kōchi Racetrack, Haru Urara lost, placing fifth—and last. Over the next four-and-a-half years, she would compete once or twice every month, but was unable to obtain a single victory. In June 2003, after garnering her 80th consecutive loss, the story was picked up by the national Japanese media, making "Haru Urara" a household name. She quickly became very popular in Japan, and was called "the shining star of losers everywhere" (負け組の星 makegumi no hoshi), for continuing to run with all her heart, despite her seemingly endless losing streak. This surge in popularity was dubbed "The Haru Urara Boom", and news about Haru Urara even reached the international community, being reported in the United States, Canada, Germany and elsewhere.
Another horse without a page of his own, apparently Seiun Sky raced against Special Week a few times, mostly losing but taking some wins too
Grass Wonder (Japanese グラスワンダー, foaled 18 February 1995) is an American-bred, Japanese-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. In a racing career which lasted from 1997 until 2000 he won nine of his fifteen races including four Grade I races. He missed most of his second season with injury problems but returned in autumn to win the Arima Kinen. He reached his peak as a four-year-old when he won the Takarazuka Kinen and a second Arima Kinen. He failed to win in three races in 2000 and was retired to stud. He has had some success as a breeding stallion.
El Condor Pasa (Japanese : エルコンドルパサー, March 17, 1995 - July 16, 2002) was an American-bred, Japanese-trained Thoroughbred racehorse. In 1998 he won the NHK Mile Cup and the Japan Cup. In the following year he was campaigned in Europe where he won the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and the Prix Foy before finishing second in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He was retired to stud but died after three seasons following unsuccessful colic surgery. El Condor Pasa has been described as the best Japanese racehorse of the 20th century.
Oguri Cap (Japanese : オグリキャップ, 27 March 1985 – 3 July 2010) was a Japanese thoroughbred racehorse, sired by Dancing Cap. Oguri Cap was inducted into the Japan Racing Association Hall of Fame in 1991.
T M Opera O (Japanese : テイエムオペラオー, March 13, 1996) was a champion Japanese thoroughbred racehorse, who was the world's all-time leading money earner at the time of his retirement in 2001. T M Opera O was inducted into the Japan Racing Association Hall of Fame in 2004.
Yet another horse without an individual page, all I found about Air Groove is that he defeated Special Week once on a race
Narita Brian (Japanese : ナリタブライアン), (May 3, 1991 – September 27, 1998) was a Japanese racehorse. Until T M Opera O surpassed him in 2000, Narita Brian was the world's top money earner. Narita Brian was voted JRA Award Best Two-year-old Colt in 1993. In 1994 he was voted Best Three-year-old Colt and Japanese Horse of the Year in 1994. He was declared "Horse of the 20th century" in Japan. In 1998 he was elected to the JRA Hall of Fame. Narita Brian's most successful offspring was Daitaku Flag who was 4th in the Japanese 2000 Guineas. He died in 1998 because of a gastric rupture.
Can’t find anything on Hishi Amazon
Symboli Rudolf (Japanese : シンボリルドルフ, March 13, 1981 - October 4, 2011) was a Japanese thoroughbred racehorse who won the Japanese Triple Crown, sired by Partholon, a son of Milesian, out of Sweet Luna, a daughter of Speed Symboli. Symboli Rudolf was inducted into the Japan Racing Association Hall of Fame in 1987.
Daiwa Scarlet (ダイワスカーレット) (May 13, 2004 - ) is a Japanese racehorse which won the 2007 Oka Sho, Shūka Sho, Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup and the 2008 Arima Kinen.
Gold Ship (Japanese ゴールドシップ) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse. In a racing career which began in July 2011, he has run twenty-six times and won thirteen races. He is known for his unpredictable temperament, with major wins being interspersed with inexplicably poor efforts.
Vodka (ウオッカ) (4 April 2004 - ) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racemare that won the 2007 Group One (GI) Tokyo Yūshun (Japanese Derby), the first filly to win this race in 64 years, as well as winning the 2009 Japan Cup. She won seven G1 races in Japan and is the highest earning racemare in Thoroughbred history.[1]

So, The Donut Contest in episode 6
is also based on a real life horse race, the 33rd Arima Kinen (Grand Pix) in 1998.
youtube
(the Contest is even named the 33rd Eating Grand Prix)
Tamamo Cross, Oguri Cap and Super Creek all really did compete in the race, Oguri did take First (but it was super close with Tamamo Cross in a good Second Place, losing by a .1 second margin), and Super Creek was indeed disqualified. (I haven’t actually been able to find out why, but.)
