everyone on this website who thinks transgender masculinity is the same thing as cisgender masculinity needs to stop and think for one goddamn second. and also maybe (re)read some jack halberstam and kimberle crenshaw before you continue this conversation. bc to say that transmasculine people only experience transphobia and misogyny as two completely separate, completely siloed experiences is the most brainbroken take i've seen in a long time. and the fact, on this site at least, it is primarily coming from other queers makes my rage and confusion infinitely greater. like,,, you're not an intersectional feminist if this particular intersection continues to fly over your head and you allow it to, because in doing so it preserves a group for you to shit on as whiny, bad queers not shutting up and staying in their place. like y'all know how that sounds right?

reading Nevada by Imogen Binnie for my trans studies seminar and while I've gone back and forth about whether or not I like it personally, the stream of consciousness prose is insightful, witty and so painfully real it resonates even with trans people who don't share the specific experiences of transgender women. It's obvious to me why this is a classic of 21st century trans lit.
(I can also see a ton of its inspiration it likely had on detransition baby by Torrey Peters for better and for worse lol)

Stars In My Pocket Like Grains of Sand, Samuel Delany, pg 78 of the Wesleyan edition
Anyway love to see Samuel Delany spitting hard facts about gender and minding ur own damn business back in 1984. This entire novel thus far continues to prove he's truly an American literary treasure

i am a science fiction scholar and this pisses me off to no end. science fiction is more diverse and forward thinking than ever and there have also ALWAYS been utopic/speculative thinking from non white authors prior to that. If you're tired of Asimov and Clarke pick up @samueldelany or the late great Octavia Butler, our two greatest American speculative fiction writers and some of the progenitors of literary Afrofuturism as we know it today. Pick up one of the dozens of queer or Black/brown/Indigenous anthologies that have come out in the last year. Check out the most recent Hugo and Nebula winners. Go to one of the DOZENS of professional and semi-professional magazines that release short fiction, novellas, novelettes and poetry for free online!!!
When I'm not at work I'll list the stories I teach/have taught in my science fiction based composition class (designed for first year US college students). Guess what?! I don't teach anything written by misogynistic white men!! if you can't find science fiction/speculative fiction written from a perspective you find engaging, there's a 98% chance you aren't looking hard enough and engaging with the genre on a genuine level
classic scifi novels by men r always like. page 1 here's a cool scifi idea i had. page 2 i hate women so much it's unreal

those lines come from chapter one of the book, nearish to the end of that section. he then opens chapter 10 with the following and I think about these two moments every day.
Slaughterhouse Five is a book about American bombing and complicity in wartime atrocity. It is about trauma and having to live with the grief of the blood of thousands on your hands It feels timely to the current moment over 50 years since its release.
so it goes? perhaps. but we have the power to let the guns of our fathers and forefathers rust where they left them. the power to teach our children never to pick them up again.
“I have told my sons that they are not under any circumstances to take part in massacres, and that the news of massacres of enemies is not to fill them with satisfaction or glee. I have also told them not to work for companies which make massacre machinery, and to express contempt for people who think we need machinery like that.”
~Kurt Vonnegut, “Slaughterhouse-Five”

@allthatglxtters (Ariel & Aeneas)
Tossing her hair up into a bun, Ariel did her best to quickly make her way over to the closest restaurant from the lab that she interned at so she could both grab some lunch, and spend some time with Aeneas if he was on his shift/lunch. Ever since she had first visited that place, she had found herself enjoying their conversations, and hadn't hesitated to ask the hostess if Aeneas was on his lunch yet as she followed her to her table and sat down, glancing around the room until she spotted him and waved him over with a warm smile. "Long time, no see, stranger." She jokes and tilts her head to the side in wonder. "You off for lunch yet, or still working?"

Ariel is basically a mermaid version of a UFOlogist monsterlover
No, for real, imagine there are aliens that take up residence JUST outside of Earth. We see their ships, they catch our animals sometimes, but we avoid them.
Now, picture a sixteen year old girl who spends ALL of her time collecting scraps of these UFO parts, bits of discarded alien tech, but does nothing with them but hoard them for a collection, and has found a statue of YEREEK, prince of Ganymede who has crab legs and she just hangs out in a shed practicing flirting with it.
