Come descrivere quello che sto vedendo... Non lo so nemmeno io, perché l'Argarve mi sta lasciando senza parole, ogni spiaggia ed ogni scogliera mi fanno sognare ad occhi aperti. Plage de Marinha - Parcours des Sept Vallées Suspendues - Lagoa - Argarve - Portugal Coordonnées GPS:  37.089692, -8.41312

Le Parcours des Sept Vallées Suspendues est un sentier qui débute à la plage de Marinha et se termine à la plage de Vale Centianes, dans la région de l'Algarve.

D'une longueur de 5,7 km (aller seulement), ce sentier se situe au sommet des falaises qui longent la mer, offrant ainsi des points de vue spectaculaires sur les plages, les grottes et les multiples formations rocheuses de la région.

Après avoir quitté la plage de Pau, nous nous sommes donc dirigés vers la plage de Marinha (Praia da Marinha) qui est incontestablement une des plus belles plages du Portugal.

Du haut de la falaise, la vue sur cette plage est à couper le souffle!  Tous les éléments sont réunis pour former un paysage hors du commun car cette plage est réellement magnifique et les formations rocheuses sont tout à fait spectaculaires.

Nous avons descendu le long escalier qui mène à la plage.  Il est situé à proximité du restaurant.

J'ouvre une petite parenthèse pour vous informer qu'à côté de ce restaurant, il y a une entrée en forme de fer à cheval dans le muret en pierres.  Cette entrée est en fait un passage souterrain très étroit pour se rendre à la plage voisine qui est Praia do Buraco.  Il vous faut une lampe de poche pour traverser ce tunnel car c'est très sombre.

Le moment est idéal pour se balader sur cette plage car la marée est basse, nous permettant ainsi d'avoir un accès complet sur toute sa longueur.  Lorsque la marée est haute, ce n'est malheureusement pas le cas.

Les falaises sont d'une beauté saisissante.  Elles ont la couleur et l'aspect d'un caramel doré en nid d’abeille, communément appelé " Honeycomb Toffee ".

Nous nous sommes rendus jusqu'à l'extrémité droite de cette plage où se dresse dans l'eau un immense rocher comportant deux arches, formant ainsi un M parfait.  Plusieurs grottes peuvent être explorées dans ce secteur.

Dans les faits, cette petite portion de plage s'appelle Praia da Mesquita.  Cependant, elle est considérée comme faisant partie de la plage de Marinha.

Nous sommes remontés au haut de la falaise et nous nous sommes rendus au sommet du rocher formant une arche double.  

Le paysage demeure sensationnel tout le long de ce trajet. A certains endroits, les falaises ont été déchiquetées par l'érosion et forment un genre de canyon très coloré.  C'est de toute beauté!

Du haut de la falaise, le M formé dans le rocher prend maintenant une autre forme.  On dirait un immense coeur dont la base est entièrement submergée.

Cela vaut vraiment la peine de se rendre au sommet de l'arche double, du moins à proximité, car sa localisation permet d'obtenir de superbes vues panoramiques de la plage de Marinha.

Tuesday 12th September

Said goodbye to Porto and headed to Coimbra. We had decided to stop off at Aveiro for a few hours on the way as this town is known as the Venice of Portugal. For once Miss Google let us down as we identified a hotel which we might stay at on the way back from the Argarve but she took us in circles until we gave up and decided to rather head for Coimbra instead.

Once again the highways were impressive. Less so was the tolls. Our car is fitted with a device which lets us go through tolls without stopping but I hate to know what our eventual toll amount will be as every couple of kilometers it buzzes. In some instances one has to go through tolls as we know them but in others all you hear is a “ping” which tells you that another Euro or two has been added to your account.

Arrived at Coimbra at about 3.00 pm and drove around in circles again thanks to Miss Google. We eventually phoned our host (Paulo) who came by motorbike to fetch us and guide us to his apartment. I asked him if he was a student as the University is just up the road to which he replied with a small smile that he was 49 years old. He looks as if he could be in his twenties. He is a very nice fellow. Fairly fluent in English. Was a dancer but is now a choreographer. Lovely big bed but no hanging or drawer space.. Great view from his apartment which is about a 5 minute drive to the riverfront. After a little rest Mary and I motored to the riverfront and walked a few kilometers to get the feel.

We then decided to take the 727 bus to the centre of Lisbon. We asked a young lady and her mother where we should get off. They directed us but when we got off the bus there was little sign of tourists so we were obviously not in the “ buzz” area. We decided to call it a day and took the bus back to Balem where we had parked our car. It so happened that there was a Starbucks right outside the bus stop and Mary’s tongue was hanging out for a Chai tea…….We eventually got back at after 11.00. Thankfully Miss Google played her part properly this time. All we had to eat all day was a shared croissant and a chocolate pastry. It was too late to make supper so I had some muesli and banana whilst Mary had ham and cream cheese. No wonder we are losing weight as we quite often don’t have anything to eat between breakfast and supper as we do not feel hungry.

Tomorrow we are going to Casqui and Sintra.
