Arcane finale initial thoughts

This episode was a roller coaster for me.

-She cut her hair off screen? Why? If she is about to commit suicide I don’t see the desire to get a new look beforehand. Usually stuff like big haircuts signifies rebirth is storytelling, a shedding of the past. This is the opposite.

-A whole melancholy Jinx tries to kill herself scene. I’m so tired. Give her a break.

-the song is haunting

-I know that they established that the time travel doesn’t work past 4 seconds, so no saving Isha. But they should have saved Isha.

- I don’t get the Jimx with the flag in the intro. She never really became a leader for Zaun. She briefly called herself it during the prison break out. But that was about saving Aisha. Then she abandoned it entirely for Vander. She really never became a revolutionary. She avoided it.

-They built the hexgates with no off switch? Did Dr doofenshmirtz teach us nothing?

-We never see Caits reaction to Jayce’s….everything?

-How does Jayce know that?

-so Viktor died, he was brought back via mad science that stripped him of his humanity, and then, the exact same thing happened again. Something something two nickels weird that it happened twice.

-Does Maddie know about the sex with Vi?

-Is this the Waarwhik Viktor team up?

-If shutting down the hexgates is a slow but steady process. He probably should have started it earlier instead of having meetings to tell them how long it will take to shut down. Is there a reason he didn’t do this immediately after Viktors mannequin attack.

-Is Loris dead?

-Is Cait never gonna tell Maddie?

-Is Maddie gonna die so it never has to happen?

-The Undercity member of Caits new team is the first to die.

-Very similar imagery to Caits gassing of the Undercity

-With every scene change you can feel the writers struggling to keep track of all the characters. This fight scene is never ending cause we keep needing to pause for an ex machina reveal. It’s Voltron all over again.

-This is reading as Mel will become a new league champion. Mage support. The new design and everything.

-“People deserve to choose their own fates.” Says the guy who fuses Viktor with the Hexcore against his will.

-That was a cool Mel moment

-Is she saving her mom?

-So will Ambessa give up and Viktor is the new main villain?

-How did that kill Ambessa? I’m so tired.

-I can’t tell if 23 more minutes of this is a good or bad thing

-This redemption is sweet but, meh.

- Aw, they are flying like it is the invention of Hextech again.

-More loss for the sisters, cool.

-Oh, it’s the top of the hexgates like it was in the dystopian apocalypse.

-Them losing and the apocalypse happening would at least be an interesting ending.

-Viktor is spirit bending Jayce’s soul like he’s the avatar

-AS IF THEY COULDNT GO HARDER WITH THE CHRISTIAN SYMBOLISM. Jeez

-It’s like Viktor is asleep behind the mask, or dead.

-“what you thought were weaknesses” “your leg, your disease” “there is beauty in imperfection”. Was he supposed to find beauty in dying young Jayce? It wasn’t a random imperfection. It was a disability and debilitating disease caused by Piltover senseless mistreatment of the Undercity. Demonizing Viktor for wanting to cure himself, or make life better, or being able to run is so dumb.

-Yeah Viktor how dare you wanna live.

-Between that and the Silco speech this seasons big moral monologues are really flat yet sanctimonious.

-Viktor is in there. Seeing once again!

-“All I want is my partner back” gay baiting till the end eh Arcane. I’m not complaining about this, I eat it up every time. I am losing chess to this dog.

-AAAH LOVE IS GONNA SAVE HIM

-oh, the mage is Viktor. That’s. Hmmm. It’s fine. Don’t know how I feel about the goatee.

-Do you think they intended this twist from the beginning?

Jinx suffered the most out of anyone in the series. She tried to kill herself and was saved by Silco, she tried to killer herself and was saved by Isha, she recovered with Isha, Isha died so she tried to kill herself again, she is saved by Ekko, and finally kills herself as a sacrifice for Vi? Fuck that. This endless pain train was t a recovery, it was just revelling in her pain till her violent death.

-SINGED GOT TO LIVE. HE GOT A HAPPY ENDING? HE KEEPS THE HEADS OF KIDS HE KILLED IN HIS EXPERIMENTS IN JARS.

-alright. Ultimately fuck this show. It was so good, then it messed it all up. Ultimately this show was just about reveling in Jinx’s pain. I’m too tired to have coherent thoughts but. That was the worst ending they could ever had done. F this

#23.2 Teases

Dan sighed wistfully. He couldn't help but feel jealous as he witnessed the couple kissing.

It must be great to be Grace. He was attractive, rich, powerful, talented, and respected. He had everything every person in the tower could ever wish to have. So it should come as no surprise that even Princess Endorsi would want him.

But despite all that, Dan didn’t want to be in Grace's shoes. Power and fame came with a price, and he knew how hard Grace had to work for it.

Maybe he wasn't actually jealous of Grace's charm. He was just not willing to let his goddess, Princess Endorsi, pick anyone else as her partner.

Dan let the realization sink in, sulking while chewing on another spoonful of meat curry. Gyetang must've felt even sadder than him, considering that his reason to join their team was to meet Princess Endorsi.

"What happened?" the guy in a tracksuit –Sibisu, if he remembered correctly– asked, as he and the others took a seat.

"Princess…" Hatz trailed off. "She used her tag to 'talk' with Grace. And when they returned, Grace had a kiss mark on his cheek."

That was a surprisingly objective summary.

"You know, I realized something after kissing him." Boss commented. He was looking at Princess Endorsi mirthfully. "The kiss mark on his cheek earlier was tilted in an odd way."

Princess Endorsi raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

Boss waited a few beats. Then he shrugged. "Never mind. I was simply sharing my thoughts."

Princess Endorsi gave him a long stare, before her eyes lit up in realization. She chuckled, "How observant."

Dan could only sit there. At least he wasn't the only one that was confused. After all, he didn't really pay attention to the mark position before Grace wiped it out, so he didn't know what kind of odd that Boss meant.

"Woah! Bam–"

The Khun guy whisper-shouted, loud enough to pull Dan out of his thoughts.

"–You learned how to use chopsticks?" 

Khun looked pleasantly surprised, and it kind of baffled Dan. He didn't think anyone, especially from the Khun family, could be impressed by such a mere act.

Viole grinned sheepishly. "Yeah. I've wanted to learn it ever since you showed me how."

The smile that crept up on Khun's lips was genuine and fond. It was a familiar expression, one that Dan often saw Boss wearing when he looked at Grace.

He noticed that everyone was also looking at Khun and Viole, as the conversation around died down. Hatsu coughed, and Princess Endorsi rolled her eyes.

Khun, noticing this, glared at everyone. "What?"

Sibisu waved his hand dismissively, grinning. The others avoided eye contact.

Grace smiled as he glanced at Boss…expectantly? Teasingly? Dan couldn't tell.

Boss glanced back at Grace, smirking.

Grace chuckled, as if they were gossiping telepathically.

They did that enough times that Dan had gotten used to it. Exchanging looks without words as if they could read each other's minds. And honestly, Dan wouldn't even be surprised if they revealed that they actually had a telepathic ability.

Khun was now frowning. Dan could imagine two cat ears on his head pointing backwards. "Are you making fun of me?"

Grace quickly waved his hands in front of him. "What? No! I would never."

Boss laughed at Khun, as if daring him. "You are so obvious, it's embarrassing."

Novick coughed, trying to hide his laugh. "It somehow reminded me of that one time Grace tried to make a perfect apple pie, and we ended up having a week’s worth of pies. All because he wanted to impress Boss."

"The pie was delicious. I was impressed." Boss nodded approvingly.

Grace closed his eyes, smiling proudly. "Worth it."

Oh, the lovebirds, Dan thought to himself. Khun must've reminded Boss of himself, which was probably what he and Grace were making fun of earlier.

Princess Anaak raised her hand, palm facing Boss and Grace. "Please don't kiss again. I'm trying to eat."

Dan heard Viole whisper to Khun. "So that's what a kiss is…?" Which was just another whiplash to him.

The more he learned about Viole, the less he fit a slayer candidate's fearsome and mysterious persona. FUG's god, as they called him. He was still a kid at heart, clueless and learning.

"What's up, Blue Turtle? Did you finally find your banana?"

Khun whipped his head, and Dan noticed a light blush on his cheeks. "What does that even mean?! Stupid crocodile."

"I wonder who's actually the stupid one," Hatz shrugged.

Khun growled, took a deep breath, and sighed. "Let's just ignore them, Bam."

It seemed like Khun was used to being antagonized by his own team. But Dan thought that he might understand why.

The strong temptation to tease and nudge the lovebirds, especially when they were so obvious yet clueless. Case in point: Grace and Agni, when Dan was new to their team. He couldn't keep himself from smiling at the memory.

He enjoyed Grace's old team’s company so far. He used every opportunity to join the conversation, especially when everyone started bickering and exchanging stories. The cafeteria had never been so lively before with only the five of them.

The chaotic energy that Grace's old team brought was like adding new flavors into the mix. Only time could tell whether it was a good combination or not, but he hoped that they'd get along. Especially because it would be a lifelong regret if he were to lose the chance to have Princess Endorsi around.

Happy Birthday Returning Visitors! Hard to believe it's been two years since Book One released. I think I got the date right...

I've already done one of these but I had to do one for Fernweh. Template Credits under the cut and rambling musings. Wall of text warning.

First, I'd like to apologise to myself, the author, and to all Jmancers for Jane's profile picture. It just works so well that the real crime would've been to not use it.

The episode summary is from Blair's perspective. I did the same thing for another IF and having the summary be from the perspective of the main character feels much more personal.

I'm not completely happy with the image I used for the episode playing template. Fernweh's woodland landscape always gave me the sense of trees so tall and thick hardly any light escapes.

But the scene shown is where the Returning Visitor picks who they're going into the woods with so it feels like it works.

I know the search itself happens in Chapter 5 but I like the idea for a Netflix adaptation it's slotted in with everything that happens in Chapter 4.

But that's enough of that.

I'm very excited to see how Book Two turns out and how Blair deals with being unable to escape. Although it does mean she now has more time to spend with Ruby.

Blair's had a crush on her for as long as she can remember. She's the only person Blair's felt any type of attraction towards. I wonder if that'll come up and how Ruby might react to it...

Are you kidding me? Absolutely. I'd say getting to draw Mike in all his naked glory is one of Will's top fantasies. Our soulful little artist. He'd have dreamt of this, years of watching Mike and sketching him. Quick little studies of his profile when they're hanging out and his sketchbook is present. And then there are the secret, indulgent drawings that he feels somewhat ashamed about, in his private sketchbook hidden in a tear in his mattress he'd cut years ago. But they get together and grow comfortable with each other. Will draws Mike. A lot. But now Mike sits for him, poses under Will's instruction. Mike, who can't sit still, but can sit still for Will. It's an excuse to stare at him.

One day Will shyly asks Mike to take his shirt off as he draws. He just wants to practice on anatomy, he swears is his excuse. Sure. Mike doesn't let that comment slide 🤭 But Will sketches him, both are blushing all the while. The art sessions get bolder. Instead of the chair, Mike lounges on the bed. Ditches his shirt automatically. Will almost can't get the words out when he asks him to take off his pants the next time. And another time - everything. It's vulnerable. Tense. Intimate, to be completely exposed under an artist's gaze. Eyes roving over all that beautiful, pale skin and the dark curls all over his chest and lower. Putting pencil to paper to capture and draw the most intimate parts of his lover. Mike's confidence grows over time when he looks at Will's drawings, sees how Will truly views him.

Will doesn't lie. And neither does his art.

Flash forward, and it's the late 90s, and our boys are cinephiles for sure. They love living in the big city, having access to so many more films. So much never reached their small town. Titanic would have reached them, though. Anywhere. It may not have been their top pick of the year, but it's a pop culture moment and they relent and grab some tickets to check out the hype. The movie is breaking countless records and reviews say that it is a technical marvel in film-making. Mike has a secret guilty pleasure for romcoms (if it's heavy on the com! he insists. Will lets him believe that's the whole truth) and he's willing to branch out from sheer curiosity, while Will does love a historical drama, heavy emphasis on the drama. If it ends up cheesy or boring, the two of them always have fun sharing mocking commentary whispered in each other's ear. So, they're both a little shocked to find themselves swept up in the sincere romance portion of the movie, and both keep looking at each other with eyes that just say everything, smirking about their new mutual crush on mister Leo. What a cutie. And then - the draw me like one of your French girls scene. Mike squeaks a laugh during that scene and claps a hand over his mouth as he giggles out of his control and Will whips his head to stare at him. They know. They fucking know what they are. How many times have they done this? Mike, laid out and posed on the bed as Will traces soft graphite across paper as his eyes trace the sharp angles and lines of Mike's body. It's a random Wednesday and they're at a theater in Chelsea, one of their favorites. They don't have to worry as much there, and have been holding hands since they took their seats. Mike pulls the ultimate date-move and stretches, and his arm re-positons across Will's shoulders. He pulls him close and leans over to place a kiss to his neck just as Rose is retying her robe and admiring Jack's sketch. "When we get home, will you draw me like--" and he doesn't get to finish as Will cuts him off with a kiss and the world's fondest eye roll.

Y’all need to stop being so mad about chloe’s set back, it’s so realistic and genuine representation! Sometimes people need to go back farther than they were before to get to their best points. This is how broken warped teenagers work! They need more than just a second chance, they need to go back all the way to remember how good it feels to be given a second chance. Remember, third times the charm, that’s the whole shows theme!! I like chloe, and I love her realistic setback.

What are your speculations for next season now it's just over 2 weeks away?

No clue honestly!! It's actually really exciting, there are so many possibilities. Outside of it being about bringing Savathun back, I genuinely have no clue what the rest of the setting could be like. Are we going back to the Throne World for more content about that and the Lucent Hive? More Fynch maybe as well?

Or is the location going to be somewhere else? I can see a possibility of the Nine being involved (with several hints to them this season), or perhaps the Dreaming City. We still have the curse to deal with! But it's also likely that it will be something we did not expect at all.

A lot of it depends on the showcase. The TFS showcase is on the same day as the season releases. I'm not sure if we'll get any other hints about the next season prior to that, although it might be possible they tell us the name and show key art again, like for Deep, but I wouldn't bet on it too much. The thing is, the showcase has to show us a lot more about TFS, including the location we're going to and likely some additional information about the portal. And the whole reason we need Savathun back is to tell us how to get through the portal.

Which means this can go two ways. One, the TFS showcase tells us more and Savathun is rezed at the start of the season and she immediately tells us what we have to do, so we don't have to pretend for 3 months that we didn't just learn everything from the showcase. Two, the showcase doesn't actually tell us enough about the portal or the location and the biggest things remain a secret and the season is about us trying to rez Savathun the whole time and we only learn about the portal at the very end, giving us a bombastic cliffhanger ending to the season, with only one season left until TFS.

I gues some middle ground is possible as well. We start with trying to find Immaru and convincing him to help us. In the middle of the season we succeed and Savathun is rezed and then she tells us the big news (big mid-season cutscene/reveal) and we spend the rest of the season fighting off enemies trying to prevent us from learning more. Or honestly, something entirely different. However, I definitely think they'll want to use Savathun as much as possible. She is very popular, her VA is doing an excellent job and the writing team knows that people want to hear her talk to us more.

The next season also brings a huge question for the final one, because the final season has to have something truly wild for us to do if we learn everything about the portal from Savathun in the next (and by proxy from the showcase). There are so many options for this and we really won't know anything conclusively until the showcase. I'm super excited that they went back to giving us little teases about future seasons, but not too much and not too little. Just the sheer impact of knowing that it's going to be about Savathun is a huge teaser, but we still don't know enough to say what's gonna happen and I love hearing everyone's ideas.

Not to ask obvious questions that may not be worth asking, but, in Good Omens Season 2, when we see Michael’s trial someone (can’t recall who) says something about how one prince (I think prince is what they say) being sent to hell is fine but two shows an institutional issue and Michael (being a prince) won’t be demoted to hell because of this. Is Satan/Lucifer (because from what I googled they seem to be the same in the Bible) the prince they are referring to as the first one to be cast out?
