Tfp Soundwave is highly intriguing to me...
But especially for the datacables. Now i could have other words to say about them but we're going to look at them in a different light. Such as where did he get them? Has he always had them? Are there more mecha out there that have them, or is it just him? How do they work, as from what i can see they're much softer than the rest of Soundwave's frame? They functionally act like a muscular hydrostat (which is fascinating, as I'm assuming energon replaces the water here and there's the whole muscle aspect), and they have rings of biolights placed in a regular order. The tips both have sharp grasping parts, and delicate little feelers for more dexterity. I'm going to remind us again I am focusing on the science here, impure thoughts begone. I don't think we see any other mecha with these in tfp. Mayyybe RID15, but I know i know RID15 is a boat in itself. We actually don't see this in any Soundwaves other than aligned, which sounds right.
I've seen people compare them to Sparkeaters, but I'd also compare them to Quintessons? Which i mean hey tfp Quintessons is a whole bucket of worms but! Soundwave 100% dealt with the Quintessons, could that be where he got the datacables? ddhfhfj wouldn't be the first time we see cybergrafting. If he was created with them, however, now that gives us questions. There are... so many questions here

this has been a roller coaster of a design journey but finally I can present you: class swap artificer!adaine and rogue!fabian
#dimension 20#fantasy high#fhfy#fhsy#fhjy#fabian seacaster#adaine abernant#fh class quangle#goodbye... goodbye hoodie kid adaine..... we have mecha pilot/power armor adaine instead#I couldnt really land how she'd get a hoodie reliably in freshman year given the abernants pattern of confiscating shit from her#so I kinda switched gear and dug a bit into a like sukeban aesthetics instead. and since shes with the AV club I like the idea of#like a radio coord thing for her. hence the suspenders#I fully admit the sukeban thing is influenced by the hacker woman in ghostwire tokyo who I have a small crush on#she's SO cool. too bad about a number of things with that game#the jacket of useful things is a racer jacket this time bc Im predictable like that#her ensemble in junior year is her tank top + overall it might not be clear enough in the pic...#just had the thought ''man I should do turnarounds for all of them'' and immediately had to slap myself out of it#anyways uh! fabian I have inflicted with my favourite thing to do to characters who like to stealth or fly under the radar#which is Bright Extremely Noticeable Jacket That Hides Your Hands#fabian's ghost motif has led me to the famous horror movie trope of silhouette with iconic jacket from afar#(see Sinister and Alice Sweet Alice)#and I love to imagine him hanging the coat up somewhere and opponents aiming there instead of at him#but also the raincoat is specifically modeled after the yellow fisherman's raincoat#and. that led to. me thinking abt fabian pulling riz up at that cliff with a net instead of the battle sheet lmao#so his junior year design is fully Fishing. which is so fucking funny it has obliterated all other possibilities from my brain#ranger flavour: captain ahab#I still debate making him carry around an actual fishing rod tbh. right now Im giving him a rifle grappling hook thing#gods. I just think High School Classmate Suddenly Gets Way Too Into Fishing is the funniest fucking thing that can happen#thank you fabian. thank you for giving me this. love you buddy#still blanking on kristen but! throughout this whole storm here I've realised I just need to fuck around

My dogs my beloved dogs!! The first line of beastial spirit vine soldiers from my LoK AU. Created by Baatar when during experimentation, he discovered the spirit energy after being condensed causes the vines to react strangely to machinery and processed material. Turning the inorganic to organic.
These soldiers are comprised of spirit vines that have mutated in reaction to the condensed activated spirit energy and adhered themselves to the suits. Similar to "mimics" in a way, they can conceal their mouths fully so they're indistinguishable from human soldiers, though very astute earthbenders may notice they neither breathe nor have a heartbeat.

Being both a Transformers fan and other mecha media fan is like. So tiring lmao. The discourse about "Transformers ≠ Mecha" on Twitter is just painfully headache inducing.
Transformers is Mecha. Super Robot genre, to be exact. It falls under the same category as the Brave/Yuusha series of sentient robots. And no. Not all Braves were human-made. In the same way, in some canon, Cybertronian were created, not born.
Take Death Drives from Bravern, for example. They are fully sentient, they do not require a pilot, they are an alien lifeforms that evolved over millions of years AND have an after life. They are still considered Mecha because they are mechanical life forms.
Mecha as a genre is very important and very influential. Transformers being considered a mecha series is not a bad thing. It can be alongside other mecha series as the inspirations for many things yet to come. And that is a beautiful thing.

Cali(barn) still supporting Aerial cause her messed up feet barely hold her (the connections got loose after a posing session) and also cause I like the sibling energy I get from their joint pose.

Nahhhh because I love how ROTB Optimus is just so much younger feeling, I love seeing him still struggle with leadership and getting visibly emotional about not being able to protect his team and being rough around the edges. Yes this is me injecting my WFC apologist propaganda, I've seen people using him as an example of why the series "sucked", but I love him so much and I've been comparing ROTB with WFC kingdom so damn much sue me

If you disregard the prime trilogy, and the manga, and the remakes, there's only three instances of Samus and Ridley meeting between K2L and Other M, and in that context, That Scene kinda-sorta almost makes sense if you squint.
Like, I get the defenses of That Scene, and I can't even say I disagree. Yes, trauma recovery isn't linear. Yes, she's in a bad headspace and old wounds are reopened. In a better version of Other M, and with a better framing and execution, That Scene could have probably worked. The idea of it wasn't terrible, out of context. But I think in context, with the execution it got, it's still actually just. Bad.
And it's like, if you're at a point where you have to ignore over half of the series and several better games to make one installment work, is it really worth it?

This may be a stupid question but why do you like transformers? They look cool and I see people posting about them and get jealous but I don't know if I could really get into it myself... anything you would recommend starting with?
Not a stupid question! But certainly an interesting one!! Unsurprisingly, I ended up talking a lot.
I like Transformers for a lot of reasons! Partially because well... I like robots and mechanical things, and by association, mecha! But the reason I ended up getting sucked in past admiring the designs was because of the characters.
I'm a character and story driven person more than anything, so when I realised "oh my god Transformers is more than big robots battling it out" (still cool but not compelling to me) I knew I was doomed. Like yes, it IS about their 4 million year long war, but it's also about interpersonal relationships and revolution and morality (and the lack of), and also kind of going "what if this really fucked up thing happened? what then?" and a whole lot more.
I also really enjoy the way characters are portrayed differently across continuities, because sometimes you get really different interpretations of characters and I think it's fascinating and fun. (This should surprise no one, considering I also like UT AUs. like. Yeah. LOL. Of course.)
Honestly I was kinda feeling the same way you described up until... April? This year? (... Crazy. It has felt like WAY longer rhdjfhdjbfd) where TF kinda existed in my periphery but I was just like. Mild about it. I had some friends who liked it so it crossed my dash from time to time but I was kinda like. Meh??
But then I started reading a lot of Transformers fanfic because it had some specific tropes I wanted to read, and got sucked in because I was doing a lot of googling so that I knew what characters looked like. And then googling to find out what the fuck was up with characters (why does everyone write the weird blue helicopter like this? Oh... he's just... Like that. Okay. I love him.)
I also just... enjoy learning lore and worldbuilding facts and HO BOY. TRANSFORMERS HAS A LOT OF THAT. also fanon. I am learning new things constantly and its GREAT.
As for places to start...
=======
I mean, there's a pretty good movie that just came out ;]]!! TF One is genuinely a decent place to start imo. Other than that... I think I've actually answered this before actually ndhfjdhfkf but I'll answer again! I like talking. Evidently.
Depending on whether you like reading or watching stuff, you have a VARIETY of options:
Transformers IDW (2005)/IDW1 (Comic): LONG comic series. Really really really good though. IDW does... kind of require a reading guide though, and I have some linked in this post (under the cut!)
Some people recommend you start at the fan favorite series, More Than Meets The Eye (MTMTE), which follows a crew of mechs that is set after the end of the war. Fun adventures in space! Totally all fun and nothing bad happens ever. Personally I wanted to know about the war and so I read. everything else leading up to it first, but MTMTE is (somewhat) self contained especially for the earlier stuff, so I do think it's possible to start there if you want to!
Transformers Skybound (Comic): This is the current ongoing comic series, which probably makes it a good jumping on point, but it's also... very sad. And violent! With very little downtime. If you like that then bam go for it though. It's pretty good imo! It's a great intro to some of the characters. (Like Shockwave :])
Transformers Prime (TV Series): Fan favorite! I like it a lot and one day I'll get around to actually watching it I swear. I really love some of the characters in this... also I got really obsessed with Soundwave from this series and that's what spurred me to get into TF. Except I also NEEDED to find out what the fuck was up with MTMTE characters so I went and read IDW instead.
Transformers Earthspark, (but specifically the first season apparently): I don't... know what's going on with the second season and I've heard very mixed reviews of S3. Apparently S1 is good though! It's ALSO set after the war, which means you get Optimus and Megatron being besties which is fun whdjfbdjfbfk,, I haven't watched this one either but from what I do know of it, it's a decent jumping on point.
Transformers Cyberverse (TV Series): This one is aimed at a younger audience and so it has Short Episodes but it's still a pretty fun time! I'm... still only partway through season 2, and I've heard Seasons 3 and 4 are really good LMAO
Other notable options: The G1 Cartoon, Transformers IDW (2019)/IDW2 (reboot of IDW1, got cut short though :[...)
Alternatively you can also take the route I took and just read fanfic like a lunatic until you eventually cave and just go "FINE. I'LL GET INTO TRANSFORMERS." If that's the case, tell me so I can bumo up my schedule for making the fic rec list that I've been meaning to make anyway.
ALSO. Did I also mention that pretty much all the TV series can be found for free on Youtube? Because they are. Which is crazy to me but I'm certainly not complaining >:)!!
