In the last 36 hours I-
Was told I needed to be early at my new job the next day to help the judge get ready for a zoom hearing.
At 8pm learned my niece has lice, again. (Someone in her class is in denial about having lice because this is the third time she’s caught them this school year).
Learned she’s been itchy for two weeks and just didn’t tell anyone
Found a friggin’ louse in my hair.
Ran into my younger sister and brother-in-law at Walgreens as she had also found evidence of lice in her hair.
Went through a full Nix treatment.
Spent 3+ hours at my younger sister and brother-in-law’s house so they could help comb my hair out. Most of that time was combing my hair for nits.
Watched the lice episodes of Schitt’s Creek and Bob’s Burgers while getting my hair combed out. and the parasite episode of Futurama because my sister nixed the South Park lice episode.
still had to strip my bed, treat it for lice, and figure out what I’m supposed to do about clothes for the next day when I got home.
Got to bed at 1 AM.
Overslept.
Learned I could use my clothes steamer to treat the clothes I wanted to wear and all my knitwear.
Had the power go out for 5-10 minutes. Terrified my travel clothes steamer was somehow to blame.
Skipped my workout so I could still take my dogs on their walk.
Learned the outage was the power company being stupid when I stopped by the coffee shop on the walk.
Made it to work barely before the girl who was supposed to show me how to get the judge’s computer set up for the hearing.
Found another living louse in my hair right before the end of the workday.
Learned my niece got the infestation from a slumber party over winter break.
Learned they make ivermectin shampoo.
Stopped from spending another $40 by older sister advising Nix killed majority, just need to keep combing with the nit comb for the rest of the week.
Spent two hours relentlessly doing laundry and vacuuming the places of the house I use the most.
Went to my sister’s house for another round of combing.
Saw many dead lice in the bowl of water used to clean the comb.
Realized the louse from earlier probably came from my work chair.
Got back home after only an hour.
Kept doing laundry.
accidentally let the cat escape. The dogs were useless in catching him this time. He dove right under the deck.
Took 20 minutes, a can of tuna, and a pack of Iams wet cat food to lure him back.
Got yelled at by my cat for forcing him to go inside and away from the great big freezing cold world he wanted to explore.
Had to give the bastard the wet food anyway because I accidentally ripped the foil when I snapped the two portions apart (see: spell of summon cat).
Gave the perfectly behaved little lady cat the other portion because she was a perfect little princess and did not cause me trouble today.
Gave the dogs the containers to lick because they were annoying and it was the only way to keep them from stealing the actual cat food.
I still have to replace the sheets on my bed and start one last load of laundry before I go to sleep. I love my niece, but I’m about ready to shave her head myself at this point.

People online (white) will create so many conspiracy theories that just boil down to "Asians aren't complete human beings with their own thoughts and autonomy" like maybe Chinese people are just going about their day to day life. Maybe a video of a North Korean person like chilling is just a person chilling, who isn't going to power down like a robot once the video is over. Stop being a fucking creep.

i've noticed just how often achilles' dragging of hector's corpse is framed mostly as an act of extreme disrespect, or only some brutal show of triumph. personally i think that's underselling both achilles' intention and what the trojans must be thinking as they watch it happen.
hector's corpse is divinely protected so it can't be damaged by the greeks after death; all that effectively happens in the iliad is that his body gets dirty. but under normal circumstances (and i'm not gonna impose realism on mythology, but the iliad is famously detailed when it comes to bodily trauma), the physical reality of dragging a corpse along stony ground for miles would be severe disfigurement and dismemberment. first the skin would wear off, then soft tissues, then extremities would start to detach. i think the iliad's original audience would be aware of that as an intended outcome.
achilles (who doesn't yet know that hector's body has been granted divine stasis) doesn't just want to parade his enemy's corpse around, he wants to tear it apart ("i only wish that this fury inside my heart would drive me to carve you to pieces and eat your flesh raw..."), he wants it to not resemble a human anymore. he wants hector's blood and flesh to circle the city of troy. he wants to make it impossible for hector's family to gather the pieces of him to cremate and that way hector's spirit won't find passage into the underworld. that's what the gods are preventing from happening, they're not just keeping the corpse pretty for priam to pick up later.

I feel the need to periodically remind people that Idiocracy is a eugenics movie.
One of the things that eugenicists believe is that it is bad for society when the “wrong people” breed.
The entire premise of the movie is that “stupid people” kept having kids while “smart people” didn’t have kids, and it ruined society because stupid genes propagated while smart genes died out. This is eugenics propaganda.
I know people will read this and their response will be “actually it’s satire” but the movie isn’t satirizing eugenics. It’s satirizing anti-intellectualism, and consumerism, and it proposes eugenics as a solution.
When eugenics was first conceived, it was used as a way to justify inequality. The idea was that people who held privilege were able to do so because they were smarter and genetically superior to lazy and stupid people who don’t have privilege. Obviously this is bad and wrong, but it is also the core lesson of Idiocracy.
The movie literally ends with the main character becoming president and having “the smartest children in the world.” Because he and his wife have smarter genes than everyone else. The proposed solution for the things that Idiocracy is satirizing is for the smart people to have children that can be in charge of the world.
I know it’s fun to use this movie to dunk on anti-intellectualism and the MAGA movement, but we need to stop. When you quote and reference this movie you are spreading eugenics propaganda.

Now that I'm in my 20s, the dudes my age who would date high schoolers are even more revolting. I can't even stand listening to two teens having a conversation, and you want to date one???? Electric chair.
