What Would Be The Houses Of Filmmakers If They Were Based On Their Own Films
What Would Be The Houses Of Filmmakers If They Were Based On Their Own Films
The illustrator Federico Babina once again found a way to demonstrate his fissure and passion for three common arts: illustration, cinema, and architecture.
Wondering what the iconic movie houses would look like if they were based on her films, Babina created an illustrative series called Archidirector. The series follows the same pattern of another series, Archicine, in which Babina…

The marriage of mediums always makes for the most engaging art, and in this imaginative collection of illustrations by Barcelona-based graphic artist Federico Babina, bold design meets great cinema from years past in a series he calls Archicine.
The gem of his collection is the Conanicut Island Lighthouse from Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Perched on a strip of coastline in Rhode Island, the structure was built in 1886 and served as the Bishop home in the film. Because it now serves as a private residence, only the outside of the home was used in the movie, but Babina’s bright recreation is nothing short of extraordinary. Whether it’s a movie set, like the 31-storey brick-and-mortar beehive of activity in Hitchcock’s classic, Rear Window, or an actual residence, like the Sheats Goldstein house portrayed in The Big Lebowski and built by architect John Lautner in the ’60s, Babina’s work pays tribute to edifices both real and imagined.

ARCHICINE: Illustrations of Architecture in Film
From Federico Babina. ARCHICINE is a series of illustrations representing the spatial match between film and architectural space. Scenographies imagined, realized and built to tell stories and characters. The architectural space in the film is not just a background but is transformed as an added protagonist. Movies have the ability to transport us to different worlds and lives and let us live and breathe real or fantastic architecture.
