“BELIEVE AMATEURS WERE RESPONSIBLE BANK ATTEMPT,” Montreal Star. October 26, 1921. Page 3. ---- Search of City and Environs for Robbers Unsuccessful ---- CAR IS RECOVERED ---- Definitely Establish There Were Three Men in Bandit Gang ---- A thorough search of the city and environs by Montreal police and detectives had failed to reveal the whereabouts of the bandits who yesterday attempted to roll the Park avenue-Prince Arthur street branch of the Canadian Bank of Commerce up to noon today.
The police and those familiar with criminal circles in the city are convinced that the attempted hold-up was the work of amateurs. An 'in and out man," say the police, referring to that class of criminal who enter a city, perpetrate a crime then hastily leave for other parts until the search has grown less warm.
A round-up of all suspicious characters was made last night by Sergeant Archambault of the headquarters staff in an endeavor to get some information on the case a number of suspects were taken to the various police stations and charged with loitering by night but no results were obtained.
RESORT IS RAIDED. Chief of Police Belanger had a raid conducted on a notorious resort on St. Lawrence Blvd., where he had been told there were a number of men who always carried concealed weapons. The place was raided. None of the thirty-five men found there were armed.
The number of the car stolen yesterday has been supplied to every police constable in Montreal and outlying districts. At 11:30 p.m. Constable Bisaillon of No. 17 station, found the car abandoned on Emelie street between Atwater and Greene avenue. The gasoline in the tank had been used up but otherwise the machine had not been damaged.
When the lone bandit ran out of the bank on Park avenue, following the exchange of shots with J. H. Carnegie, manager; he still carried the smoking revolver in his hand. On the sidewalk was found a used cartridge, which was handed over to Captain Kavanaugh of No. 5 station, who in turn sent It to detective headquarters. The cartridge was found to fit a thirty-two calibre automatic revolver.
Chief of Detectives Lepage said this morning that his men were busily engaged on the case and were leaving no stone unturned to get trace of the desperadoes. That there were three men in the deal, the one who entered the bank and two others who waited outside in the motor car has been definitely established.
“SCENE OF YESTERDAY'S ATTEMPTED BANK HOLD,” Montreal Star. October 26, 1921. Page 3.  --- Dotted lines indicate the path of the bullets fired during the revolver duel which occurred when an attempt was made to rob the Park Avenue-Prince Arthur street branch of the Canadian Bank of Commerce. The figure 4 denotes where the first bullet fired by the manager, J. H. Carnegie, lodged itself. No. 3 indicates the shot returned by the would-be robber. Nos. 1 and 2 were fired by the hold-up man just before running from the building Inset to the left of the picture is Mr. Carnegie, manager of the branch, and on the right, George Drew, the teller.

Erebos sounds sick as heck, tell me all about your characters
and THANK YOU MUNDIE! it's got a really large cast so i'm going to put this all under the cut because it's likely going to get really long. for those reading this ask who may have missed the initial conversation, erebos is the crime drama show i'm working on outlining right now. the VERY short elevator pitch is leverage meets peaky blinders but gayer and in modern-day france
our less-than-intrepid not-really-heroes:
lily spence runs this damn town. well, that's not really true. lily spence runs this damn fringe group of four other petty crooks who kind of just rob enough people to live comfortably and not much else. but they are VERY good at it. born into british aristocracy, she was disowned by her extremely traditional parents when they walked in on her kissing another girl. only seventeen, she fled to france to stay with her brother, who was working in marseille, but got waylaid in paris. she was nearly mugged until karim intervened and took her under his wing. and now look at them seventeen years later. criminal masterminds. lily is very very smart and ruthless and also a total nerd. if an episode of doctor who is airing, she will not run a con because she is absolutely insistent on watching it. also, there’s a running gag of how she, as a stereotypical bisexual, cannot sit on chairs properly. she loves her team and she loves committing crimes, but the prospect of going toe to toe with elise archambault terrifies her. (but she'll be damned if she shows it.)
karim ayari acts as lily's second-in-command. he has the least fleshed out backstory of the gang right now, but he used to work for the dutch intelligence force before getting sick of all the bullshit and corruption involved with federal law enforcement and leaving to become something of a vigilante. somehow he ended up in paris, where he met and teamed up with lily. as the oldest member of the team (though only by a few years), he's also the most level-headed and often has to bail the others out of trouble. he's also just a total sweetheart. he spends his free time teaching self-defense to homeless women and children. i love him.
yvette laroche started her adult life as an automobile saleswoman before she discovered that her persuasive skills were much more lucrative when applied to crime, at which point she joined the team as their grifter. she is the only member of the team who is actually french and more or less the only member of the team who is still on good terms with her family (though i'll talk about lily's brother later.) she's a black trans lesbian- in fact, she and lily even briefly dated before deciding they were better off as friends- who adores few things more than eating the rich. these few things include terrible jokes and even worse romance novels.
adrian valenti is the team's resident cat burglar, which is an apt title because he is also my poor little meow meow. (for the record, i STILL have no idea what that actually means, but the feeling it evokes is definitely adrian.) he grew up on the streets of manhattan, which is where he learned to become such a good thief. i have no idea what words in the next big plot detail in his life have been banned by apple, so let's just say for convenience's sake that he also developed a substance problem. adrian has been clean for several years now but still struggles to talk about his time in new york. i'm not completely sure yet how he made his way to paris, but here he is. he's kind of an asshole 90% of the time, but has a huge heart deep down and really deeply cares about his team. he thinks lily is the worst person he's ever met. he's desperately in love with her.
julia ono serves as the team's technical support, which is a nice way of saying she's a hacker. one of the best in the world, in fact. she's from australia, but was in france for a job when interpol finally nabbed her. she was immediately broken out of jail by adrian. van houden, whom you'll meet below, was NOT pleased about the whole affair. the team's condition on breaking her out was that she work with them on a job, but she liked them, though she thought they were the weirdest people she'd ever met, so she stuck around for the next job. and the next. and, well, here she still is. julia has a very sarcastic sense of humor, which is why she gets along so well with adrian, even if she may call him "bitch-ass white boy" to his face in a very strong aussie accent. the youngest member of the team, she is fashionable and unapologetic, though she struggles to overcome internalized stereotypes, and a lesbian with a massive crush on yvette.
la famille archambault, aka The Mob(TM):
elise archambault is in charge of la famille archambault, an organized crime syndicate operating out of paris. she knows exactly what she is capable of and won't let anyone else forget it. as a woman, she has had to work twice as hard to get to where she is. she won't let any transgressions go lightly, so when a ragtag gang of crooks robs her own sister-in-law, she takes it upon herself to wipe them out. they've made their living conning tourists and the wealthy. she, by contrast, is elise goddamn archambault. they pose no threat to her. right?
lucas archambault is elise's older cousin who serves as her lieutenant and advisor. "arwen," you might ask, "what's lucas' deal?" the truth is i still have no idea. this man currently has no personality and no backstory. unfortunately, i can't cut him because he's essential to the plot. *sighs in writer*
olivier archambault is elise's younger brother who might resent his sister's power and DEFINITELY resents lucas' power. shouldn't he be the second-in-command? sure, he gets to be in the field much more, but he doesn't like being told what to do. isn't he the one who knows what's best for lfa? shouldn't he be in charge?
catherine archambault is olivier's wife who kind of didn't know what she was marrying into until it was too late. she loves olivier enough to make it work, though, and with her head for numbers, she all but runs the business side of lfa. unfortunately, that doesn't mean she's impervious to getting swindled out of a sizable chunk of cash by adrian and julia...
friends, foes, and other irritations:
mickey spence is lily's kind-hearted older brother who is the only member of her family she is still in touch with. in direct contrast to his sister's less-than-legal pursuits, he's a respectable businessman working out of marseille. he loves lily more than anything but is a bit concerned about what she and her friends are doing. mickey is my favorite character. my emotional support himbo, if you will. i adore him
marya van houden is a dutch interpol agent working out of paris who has been keeping an eye on lfa and subsequently crosses paths with the team. van houden is very good at her job, so the team should really end up in jail. except... she used to work with karim, and she hates lfa just as much as they do. if it means bringing down the most dangerous crime syndicate in the city, she might just be willing to play ball with the lesser evil
denis gascoigne is another petty thief who has been adrian's biggest rival for years. but in a friendly way, you know? they're frenemies. gascoigne wouldn't do anything like turn the team over to lfa, the police, or interpol, but he'll definitely mildly inconvenience them if he gets the chance. on extremely rare occasions, he might even lend them a hand
madeleine benoit and jacques timonier are the paris police detectives in hot pursuit of the team. they're not exactly BAD to the degree that elise's crew is, but they're just really fucking annoying. and unfortunately really determined. benoit is up for a promotion and by god she's going to get it. you know anne from santa clarita diet? they're like anne, but not as easily swayed into thinking the team are actually messengers of god
tania featherswaite unfortunately might end up getting cut because she features prominently in the season 3 storyline that is teetering on the line between "revolutionary and keeps the show fresh" and "unmitigated disaster." she was lily's first girlfriend- you know, the one lily's parents saw her kissing and threw her out over- but her parents were much more supportive than the spences, so she's still in the uk. she's much quieter than lily but has a genuine and elegant strength, as well as what is possibly the only moral compass on this show. her major story arc is kind of a spoiler, but she basically gets to do a lot of badass spy-esque stuff with lily and mickey that i am REALLY hoping stays in. we'll see.

If you aren't too busy, I would love to know what the CDLC Archambault trio think of each other. Especially August and Florin, since I assume they've been going to the same school for years! What do they think of each other?
Ooh this is an interesting one! It's something that there wasn't a ton of room for in Crème de la Crème as it's structured, because you don't get to hang out with the Archambault gang in their everyday life.
So:
Auguste is very careful and correct and has been since they were younger. They're quite judgey about Florin's wild behaviour but don't tend to call them out when they're being selfish - it's more about appearances and keeping up with the rules.
Florin likes needling Auguste sometimes but their reactions aren't always all that funny, more just Auguste getting angry, so that's not something that happens all the time. When Auguste is sniffing out trouble, they occasionally enlist Florin as a helper because Florin is better at encouraging people to talk.
Rosario tends to see the best in people so was eager to get to know them when they arrived! Both Florin and Auguste were pretty star struck and both of them very much wanted to know more about what royal life in Zaledo was like. Florin was unusually shy with them though. I think there were a few awkward, drawn out non-conversations between the three of them until Rosario opened up - maybe saying something about being homesick - and things became more friendly.
Even so, Auguste finds it challenging to be informal with Rosario as that goes against their whole upbringing! So they wouldn't really consider Rosario a friend. Florin gives less of a crap about etiquette and is genuinely excited about exploring the world so has a more relaxed friendship with Rosario. (Maybe Rosario and Florin would hook up as friends with benefits if Rosario isn't into the MC? Hmmm... perhaps.)

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. & John Archambault
The 26 characters in this rhythmic, rhyming baby book are a lowercase alphabet with attitude. "A told b, and b told c, 'I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree'"--which probably seemed like a good idea until the other 23 members of the gang decided to follow suit.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Paul Galdone
No one draws trolls better than the Caldecott Honor artist Paul Galdone, and this beloved read-aloud classic about the three brother billy goats who dare to cross the hideous troll’s bridge to get to the sweet grass on the other side has never been more dramatic.

Enhanced Interviewing Techniques to Improve Memory Recall
By Lieutenant Jason Potts Vallejo Police Department, CA
What Happened? Who did it? And, where are they now – simple enough, right? Typical questions that police officers and investigators want answered. But all too often, we attempt to rush and control an interview by asking close-ended questions. This drive for expediency can unintentionally reinforce the victim’s sense of inadequacy, frustrate and confuse them, give off the perception they are not believed, and even re-victimize. Research shows that stress and fear can cause memory alterations and limitations 4. However, cognitive interviewing techniques can mitigate these effects, thus providing a more thorough account of the traumatic event. Cognitive interviewing frames questions to obtain more accurate information and details while simultaneously increasing law enforcement legitimacy in the eyes of the victim. According to several studies, cognitive interviewing elicited between 25% and 40% more statements in the cognitive interviewing groups (intervention) than the traditional methods or business as usual groups (control)8, 4.
Neuroscience Research
Stress hormones like norepinephrine and cortisol create reactions, behaviors, and memory limitations that are surprising to most 5, 12. For example, if subjected to a traumatic, potentially life-altering event, most people believe they would fight back. However, some are so fear stricken that tonic immobility (unable to move) or dissociation may overtake them – seen as counterintuitive behavior to most of us. Further, complicating matters is that neuroscience research has shown memory subjected to a traumatic experience is fragmented and not recalled in a linear way 2, 11. Unfortunately, for an untrained first responder, these memory irregularities are chalked up as deceptive. For instance, Dr. Lisak 11asserted “victims are often able to recall the texture of a rapist’s shirt before being able to remember if the suspect was wearing a hat,” is a profound illustration on memory limitations during a traumatic event (p.3). Recalling one’s memory in an orderly way from start to finish is difficult and typically unattainable as victims and witnesses often have starts and stops with fragmented images 3. For example, asking a victim about the assailant’s face, when he or she was focused primarily on the weapon, will further frustrate 12. Additionally, peripheral details such as the assailant’s face may not have received the same attention because the fear circuitry did not see it as a need for survival, also known as perceptual narrowing 1. This is a well-studied phenomenon in officer-involved shootings where officers may experience the “weapon focus effect” & auditory exclusion, or tunnel vision where the victim focuses on one of the five senses at the exclusion of others 1.  This lack of clarity for these details may frustrate investigators and is often seen as a lack of credibility or worse – deception 12, 1.
To avoid frustrating the victim, we should initially avoid asking close-ended questions as memory is highly malleable and prone to being edited – especially under stress and fear, common in life altering and traumatic events 11, 12. When people are in a highly traumatized state, our fight or flight responses kick in, and parts of our feeling brain (such as the amygdala) kick into high gear, and our thinking brain (including the prefrontal cortex) is decreased, inhibiting our ability to accurately recall memories 5, 11, 12. Victims & witnesses encode details that investigators might not feel are central to the investigation such as the description of a car seat, or tablecloth but ignore another detail such as a vital time sequence, or what the perpetrator may have said or the color of his shirt9, 12. However, these other peripheral memories might be consolidated in their fear circuitry and can be compelling evidence if investigators are able to effectively pull it out. Using cognitive interviewing techniques to retrieve those details by reinstating the context, may assist in better memory recall. Retrieval cues are stimuli that can help a victim remember details more clearly. The power of retrieval cues is evident in a song that immediately brings us back to a moment or the power of the smell of our mother’s cooking or even the smell associated with a life-altering event such as an automobile crash. For law enforcement investigators, reinstating the context of a victim’s trauma is extremely important, while coupled with obtaining powerful and relevant retrieval cues – aided by asking questions about sensory details such as sounds and smells 13, 4. By allowing the interviewee to describe the detail as it is encoded, i.e., “person reminds them of…” or “taller than me” or facilitating picture drawing, investigators are often able to gather implicit memories not commonly known to the victim 7.
Cognitive Interviewing Techniques
Fischer & Geiselman 4discuss the following two goals of investigative interviewing: “eliciting extensive, accurate information and promoting victims’ psychological health” (p.2). Police are better served to let victims tell their story at their pace – eliciting details with more open-ended questions, which are at the foundation of cognitive interviewing.
Along these lines, the following techniques are taught at the U.S. Army Special Victims Capabilities Course 14to military Special Agents:
“Acknowledge trauma, pain and stressful situation (be empathic, compassionate, and patient)
Use questions like “tell me more,” “help me understand,” “describe” & words “able and experience” (uninterrupted)
Give victims the ability to say, “I don’t know” or “I don’t remember.”
Ask for a description of the six senses (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste, and body sensations)
Ask “how the case has impacted them” and what the victim can’t forget about the incident (assists with verifying the veracity of trauma)
Clarify information
As Fischer & Geiselman 4 discuss, we create improved police legitimacy through “therapeutic jurisprudence” by allowing victims to regain control (often taken from them in the most vulnerable way) by explaining the process and offering them choices 4, 13, 14. Further, victims also have a small sense of success because they can answer, “What happened?” as opposed to being unable to answer if the firearm was a revolver or semi-automatic – potentially increasing their frustration and hindering memory recall. Finally, officers should avoid taking detailed notes during an initial narrative statement. Instead, officers should consider writing brief notes and then later drill/funnel down on details. For example, “car – red, sedan, 4dr, and man – short, thin, tattoos, black hair.”
Officer-Involved Critical Incidents
These techniques (reinstating contextual cues) can also be used when questioning our police involved in critical incidents – by having witnesses go back and conduct walk-throughs of the scene in incidents of officer-involved shootings and allowing sleep cycles – effective techniques to prompt better memory and trauma-informed recall. Delaying interviews by 48 hours (or two sleep cycles), will enable officers to decompress by obtaining episodic sleep. Research shows it may aid in memory recall due to the flood of adrenaline that takes time to settle – time that may allow memory to be consolidated – even if the delay may contaminate some memory10.
Conclusion
Fischer and Geiselman’s 4research has shown that when victims are initially allowed to provide an open-ended narrative, they feel heard, in control, and ultimately trust their interviewers. However, trust is established at the outset with genuine rapport, critically important for setting the foundation for optimum recall. If trust and legitimacy are deposited early on, then the victim feels a sense of dignity and respect 13, 14. However, providing the victim control in the interview takes time – a tall order for many police running from call to call and dealing with their own fatigue & secondary trauma experiences. The effort is worth it with the potential for more trauma-informed recall; besides, it is the golden rule. How would we want our loved ones to be treated if questioned by police after a potentially traumatic and life-altering event?

Petroleum pipe assert passes brutal after American indian burial sites destroyed | Fox News
Aug. 18, 2016: The protest locate along North Dakota Highway 1806 was quiet and practically empty of people. ( AP)
BISMARCK, N.D.- A declaration of a four-state, $3.8 billion oil grapevine swerved brutal Saturday after tribal officials remark structure gangs destroyed American Indian burial and cultural places on private region in southern North Dakota.
Morton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Donnell Preskey responded four private security guards and two guard dogs were injured after several hundred demonstrators encountered structure crews at locations other than construction sites just outside the Standing Rock Sioux reservation. One of the security officers was taken to a Bismarck hospital for undisclosed injuries. The two guard dogs were taken to a Bismarck veterinary clinic, Preskey said.
Tribe spokesman Steve Sitting Bear responded protesters reported that six people had been pierced by insurance pups, including a young child. At least 30 parties were pepper-sprayed, he alleged. Preskey answered law enforcement authorities had no the reporting of objectors being injured.
There were no law enforcement officers at locations other than construction sites when the accident came, Preskey responded. The crowd disbursed when policemen arrived and no one was arrested, she said.
The incident occurred within half a mile of an encampment where hundreds of people have gathered to join the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s protest of the lubricant pipeline that is slated to cross the Missouri River nearby.
The tribe is defying the Army Corps of Engineers’ decision to grant licenses for Dallas-based Energy Transfer Partners’ Dakota Access pipeline, which spans the Dakotas and Iowa to Illinois, including near certain reservations in south North Dakota. A federal magistrate will regulate before Sept. 9 whether building can be halted on the Dakota Access pipeline.
Energy Transfer Marriage did not render phone calls and emails from The Associated Press on Saturday attempting comment.
The tribe dreads it’s research projects they are afraid will vex sacred places and influence clean drinking water for several thousand tribal members on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation and millions further downstream.
The protest Saturday find one day after the tribe filed court newspapers saying it noted various places of “significant cultural and historic value” along the path of the proposed pipeline.
Tribal preservation officer Tim Mentz was indicated in tribunal documents that the tribe was only recently allowed to questionnaire private land north of the Standing Rock Sioux reservation. Mentz answered researchers acquired buryings rock piles called cairns and other locates of historic significance to Native Americans.
Standing Rock Sioux chairman David Archambault II said in a statement that construction gangs removed topsoil across an area about 150 paws wide-ranging straining for 2 miles.
“This demolition is destroying, ” Archambault remarked. “These floors are the resting places of our ancestors. The ancient cairns and stone devotion resounds there cannot be replaced. In the working day, our sacred territory has been turned into hollow ground.”
Preskey said the company filmed the strife by helicopter and turned the video over to permissions. Demonstrators also have posted some of the discord on social media.
Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier said in a statement that “individuals crossed onto private property and accosted private security officers with wooden posts and pennant poles.”
“Any suggestion that today’s occurrence was a peaceful protest, is untrue, ” his statement said.

Internalized Repression “Predictably, where increasing politicization combines with increased institutional repression, the situation has taken a violent turn. The 'contemporary prison' (Irwin, 1980) of the 1970s in the U.S. degenerated into a racial-ethnic battleground with inmate cliques and gangs organized apolitically for the purposes of defense and attack. This new mentality erupted in Canada with the bloody escape attempt and hostage-taking at Archambault Institution, Quebec, in 1982, where the number of long-term prisoners and inmates subject to special security precautions had been steadily increasing (Amnesty International, 1983). But while serious prison disturbances continue to occur, the political consciousness of prison inmates in both the U.S. and Canada has plainly eroded. As in the 1950s Big House era, inmates, especially in the context of increasing inter-personal violence, are simply trying to survive. It is unsurprising, therefore, that prisoners are distancing themselves from the contradictions and futility of their situation. For many, a fatalistic attitude prevails which blurs any meaningful distinction between those condemned to live inside prison walls and those who believe themselves to be beyond the shadow of the penitentiary. As one inmate stated in deprecating the goal of 'freedom' (expressed by Matsqui Institution inmates at the Matsqui Educational Institute, January 24, 1985):
What we have in here is our future. Soon they'll have as intensive a surveillance out there as they do in here. We'll all be in this situation soon. This place is just a 'testing ground' for the surveillance devices that will be used outside, everywhere.
In this Orwellian void, prisoners content themselves with meagre hedonistic pleasures, preferring institutional 'privileges' to vain protest. The logic of repression is internalized precisely because it is pervasive and inescapable. Conversely, the attempts by correctional staff to obstruct politicization are not understood by themselves as a calculated conspiracy, but as earnest attempts to re-integrate the offender into the larger 'social order'. The problems facing people are the same on the outside as on the inside;i.e., everyone could either see himself as behind the societal eight ball or can decide to pick himself up by the bootstraps.
And should prisoners fail to make the required adjustment, "common-sense' logic dictates an ironically smug explanation - - "Why expect prisoners to become social in the prison when they haven't been social outside it?" But it is not only prisoners and their keepers who have embraced resignation in the wake of stifled revolt. Radical criminologists, too, have lowered their sights, confessing to a romantic overestimation of the revolutionary potential of the prisoner movement. Staunch 'liberal' criminologists, while granting the reality of massive social injustices, argue the need to persist in the struggle for reforms that would mitigate the specific injustices of the correctional system. A newer breed of sociologists question the very possibility of change, citing the ubiquity of power as evidence of the haplessness of revolt. Amidst this intellectual default, criminologists are drawn deeper into the vortex of state control, fashioning theoretically specious analyses  which lay to rest the faded rhetoric of prisoner protest in the 1980s”

hello! i loved the tiny detail abt how sharing a bed w the creme ros is like, i was wondering what thats like w blaise and the archambault gang? thank u sm!!!
Thank you for asking!
Auguste wraps themself up in the blankets every night and denies it despite the obvious evidence. They get a bit testy if woken up for blanket reclaiming especially because they find it sometimes hard to get to sleep when someone's there.
Rosario spreads out like a sea star. They sleep so soundly, though, that you can nudge them around without them minding.
Florin is a limpet and likes to cuddle up, but claims that YOU'RE the one taking up all the bed.
Blaise likes having lights on when sleeping but falls asleep very fast, sometimes in the middle of a conversation. Every so often they have pretty bad nightmares.

arwen!!! what are you writing about!!!! what's the last book that you read and how would you rate it!!!! what's your favorite literary device!!!!! what's a word you think people should use more often!!!! which do you miss the most: libraries, museums, aquariums, or movie theaters!!!!
jamie!!! i talked a little bit about what i’m writing about here but i’m going to talk about my characters in the crime drama below the cut because i love them! last book i read was my fourth or fifth reread of soc and i would rate it 11/10 stars! favorite literary device is when a character says “i am not doing that and that is FINAL” and then it smash-cuts to them doing the thing! i think “shenanigans” should be applied to every context! and i miss all four of those places SO MUCH but every day i’m not in my library i die a little inside so i’d have to go with libraries!
read on for more info about my emotional support criminals... no, not the crows... not leverage consulting either... XD
come chat!!!
so as i said in the ask linked above, the premise of my project involves a gang of petty criminals who are quite a bit like the leverage peeps except they actually commit crimes instead of acting robin hood. also like leverage, there’s five of them:
lily spence is the “mastermind” role. born into british aristocracy, she was disowned by her extremely traditional family when they found out she had a girlfriend. only seventeen, she fled to france to stay with her brother (more on him later...) but by a series of unfortunate events ended up on the parisian streets instead until she was taken in by karim (also more on him later), and they formed an alliance of criming (which is now a word.) lily is very very smart and ruthless and also a total nerd. if an episode of doctor who is airing, she will not run a con because she is absolutely insistent on watching it. also, there’s a running gag of how she, as a stereotypical bisexual, cannot sit on chairs properly
karim ayari is the “retrieval specialist/hitter” role. he has the least fleshed-out backstory of the gang right now but long story short, he’s dutch-tunisian and ended up in paris, where he met and teamed up with lily. he’s the most level-headed member of the group and often has to bail the others out of trouble, sometimes with the help of van houden (more on her later...). he’s also just extremely kind despite the violent nature of his work. because he obviously knows how to beat people up, he spends his free time teaching self-defense to homeless youth and women. i love him
yvette laroche is the “grifter” role. she’s a black trans lesbian and the only member of the group who’s actually parisian. she’s also the only member of the group with a loving family to return to (kind of... more on mickey spence later...)- i wanted to show with yvette that while families can be awful about their kids being queer like lily’s parents, they can also be loving and supportive and try their best. she worked as a saleswoman for a time before realizing that her persuasive skills were a lot more lucrative when applied to crime, and she joined lily and karim. yvette is the most traditionally “good” member of the team, as she’s very passionate about social justice and will sometimes put the con at risk to help people in need
adrian valenti is the “thief” role. he also probably has the most tragic backstory, which is saying something. he grew up on the streets of manhattan, which is where he learned how to be a very good thief. he also became addicted to heroin. adrian’s been clean now for several years but still struggles talking about his time in new york. he’s extremely sarcastic but cares deeply about the people he loves. he thinks lily is the worst person he’s ever met. he’s desperately in love with her
finally, julia ono is the “hacker” role. the most recent addition to the team, she’s globally notorious in the crime and criminal justice worlds for her technical ability. though she’s australian, interpol was able to nab her when she travelled to paris for a job. when the team heard she was in the city, they broke her out of jail on the condition she work with them. julia and adrian have the same sassy sense of humor, which is why they became best friends. she’s also fashionable and unapologetic, though she struggles to overcome internalized stereotypes, and a lesbian who’s got a massive crush on yvette
in terms of the other main characters, mickey spence is lily’s older brother. unlike their parents, he loves his sister very much, but as a respectable businessman operating out of marseille, he’s a bit concerned about what she and her friends are doing. that being said, he’s very fond of them all
agent marya van houden is a dutch interpol officer who’s simultaneously very good and very bad at her job. which is a good thing. she’s an old friend of karim’s and will occasionally help the team out of trouble (which is the bad-at-her-job part), especially when they start running into serious danger with the mob
finally, elise archambault is the head of the archambault family crime syndicate. she’s absolutely goddamn terrifying in that she’s cunning and completely merciless and still extremely feminine. again, my dream cast for her is melanie laurent. do with that what you will XD

« Les mutins ont obtenu des sandwiches – Un Hotage Été Libéré, » La Press. August 26, 1980. Page 01 & 03.
John Niewerth, 50 ans; Marcel Bougie, 46 ans; Denis Morin, 22 ans; Paul Gingras, 33 ans; Serge Michaud, 31 ans; M. Pinet, 39 ans; M. Grenier, 24 ans: Marc Saindon, 21 ans; Denis Protot, Daniel Vézina et Rosaire Langlois.
