Writing Notes: The Fool's Journey
Tumblr media
The Fool’s Journey is the archetypal story told by the Major Arcana of the Tarot.
Use the Fool’s Journey for inspiration and brainstorming, rather than for developing a plot or outlining.
It’s far more powerful for suggesting solutions than for suggesting structure (as is true for Tarot in general).
As a writer, the Fool’s Journey can help you:
Pinpoint the emotions your character should be feeling at each story stage,
Find the next step for a character stuck at a particular stage,
Create conflict appropriate to each story stage,
Access archetypal images and symbols to add depth to your story,
Troubleshoot problems caused by your character skipping a vital story stage,
Assess your own progress as a writer.
The ‘Fool’s Journey’ is the term coined by Eden Gray to describe the story of the Major Arcana of the Tarot.
USING THE FOOL'S JOURNEY
Possible pitfalls - useful for adding conflict to your story;
Feelings in life - the things that might be going through your character’s head,
Outward signs - external events of objects that can represent that stage of the story.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If your story is lacking conflict, find the card which best represents your character and use the “pitfalls” list as a starting point.
If you aren’t sure what your character is thinking at a certain point in the story, find their corresponding card and explore the “feelings” list.
If you need more events in your story that relate to the current stage it’s in, find the corresponding card and brainstorm ideas using the “signs” list.
If you don’t know what your character should do next, find which card their current state corresponds to, and use the exercises to brainstorm scenes for the next card.
If you need the influence of a particular card in your story, consider creating a character who fulfills those functions and makes use of similar symbols.
THE FOOL'S JOURNEY: 22 Cards
0. The Wandering Fool
The hero of the Major Arcana
How is your hero a wise fool?
How will this symbol gain new meaning when the hero returns home after their long journey?
1. The Magician
The Magician uses the way of the intellect to uncover spiritual secrets; he is an active seeker of knowledge and clarity.
Who is the initiator of your character’s current way of life?
Does your character tend more towards the empirical or the mystical? What conflict does this dichotomy cause them?
Outward signs: A juggler, conjurer or magician, an adept, a bookworm.
Possible pitfalls: Megalomania, being a charlatan, omnipotence.
Feeling in life: Tapping into huge reserves of power, feeling in charge, confidence, a Faustian thirst for knowledge.
2. The High Priestess
The feminine counterpart of the Magician; she represents the mystical path to spirituality as opposed to the intellectual.
Her approach is passive, inwardly-directed, and in no way inferior or less effective to that of the Magician.
What is the character open to and expectant of?
Outward signs: Loss of consciousness, waiting, turning the other cheek, taking part in a ritual, allowing oneself to be guided blindly.
Possible pitfalls: Escapism, doubt, indecisiveness.
Feeling in life: Letting go, trust in the universe, inspiration, feeling loved, peace, going with the flow.
3. The Empress
The power of nature, as opposed to the Emperor, who represents the man-made or artificial.
She can be a source of abundance, creativity, nourishment, and life but at the same time, she can bring about the destructive forces of natural disasters.
How does your character embrace life?
Are they in tune with nature?
Outward signs: A feast, a mother, an artist, going shopping.
Possible pitfalls: Uncontrolled growth, changeableness, inconsistency.
Feeling in life: Creative flow, feeling alive, understanding the cycles of life, belief in abundance.
4. The Emperor
As the Father figure, he is the source of authority and responsibility.
While he may at times seem overbearing or critical, he provides the disciplining influence which is the essence of all learning and spirituality.
How does your character approach their responsibilities?
How do they struggle with discipline or authority?
Outward signs: An authority figure, being told to try harder, being given a routine or schedule, being drafted, a (verbal or physical) beating.
Possible pitfalls: Obstinacy, perfectionism, strictness, hard heartedness.
Feeling in life: To be aware of responsibilities, being cruel to be kind, a realistic outlook, seriousness, being given constructive criticism.
5. The Hierophant
The teacher of religious mysteries and the first suggestion of the underworld of adventure.
The hero must travel through both the (conscious) visible world, and the (unconscious) hidden world to find what is essential.
What character might work as a Hierophant to urge your character to discover the world that they’re ignoring?
What is visible in the character’s world? What is hidden?
Outward signs: A truth-teller, a blunder, an invitation.
Possible pitfalls: Hyposcrisy, world-weariness, “guru-ism”.
Feeling in life: Faith in the divine, profound experiences.
6. The Lovers
Having realised that there is a world beyond that which they had conceived, the hero must now decide whether or not to leave home and hearth and search for it (in the visible or invisible world).
The hero makes this decision with a light, pure heart, and with the best intentions.
This card depicts a pair of lovers because even after the teachings of the Hierophant, love is the ultimate driving force that allows us to make a change.
How does the experience of love force the character to make a choice between their current life and the life they might have?
How do they describe the choice to themselves? Are they accurate?
What are they afraid of leaving behind? How does their desire outweigh this fear?
Outward signs: An object of desire, arguments with parents or guardians.
Possible pitfalls: Intemperance, excessive joy.
Feeling in life: Butterflies, fearless decisiveness.
7. The Chariot
The decision made in the Lovers card has spurred the hero on to leave his home and set off in search of adventure.
Represents the pull of opposites.
What are some signs or symbols that the character has been chosen as the hero of the story?
How does the character set off on the adventure? What spurs them on?
How does the character struggle to keep their two steeds in check?
Outward signs: A new form, or clothing symbolic of a new function; provision of a vehicle; setting out on a journey.
Possible pitfalls: Arrogance, impulsiveness, intemperance.
Feeling in life: Optimism; desire for motion; being poised; increasing awareness; maturity; the first, intoxicating phase of the road trip, before reality begins to leak back in.
8. Justice
Marks the point of separation with the ordinary world.
This is when the hero reaches the first crossing.
The figure of Justice represents the old laws the hero is leaving behind and the new laws (of the new world) that are drawing them into their power.
The character must be ready and willing to take on responsibility, but unlike the choice of the Lovers card, Justice, with her prominent right foot, represents a more considered, rational approach.
What are the rules of the old/ordinary world that the character is leaving behind?
What are the rules of the new/adventure world? How do they differ? How do these differences cause problems for the character?
What responsibilities must the character take on? How do they feel about it?
Outward signs: Lifting the sword of power, training montage, a schedule/roster/plan of action.
Possible pitfalls: Being a know-it-all, prejudice, slyness, overconfidence.
Feeling in life: Fairness to others, making intelligent decisions, just rewards.
9. The Hermit
With the single digit cards ends the Fool’s sojourn in the realms of light.
From now on they are in the dark underworld of adventure.
This is the beginning of the inward journey, and for this reason requires some solitary reflection.
They’ve travelled a long way from The Fool card, where the mountains on the summit of which the Hermit now stands, were far in the distance.
Can also appear as another person, often a Helper, who provides the character with a protective talisman for their crossing.
This is also where the character learns their true name. It may be part of the revelation of the heavenly parents, who are often kept secret from the hero.
How and where does the character seek peace and quiet?
How are they provided with a talisman for the journey ahead?
How does the character discover their true name? What does it mean to them?
What does this period of solitary reflection reveal to the character?
Outward signs: A hideaway/den/nook, a protective figure, a symbolic gift.
Possible pitfalls: Strangeness, feeling like an outsider, being too concerned with the other world, disenchantment.
Feeling in life: Clarity, inner peace, standing up for yourself, finding yourself.
10. The Wheel of Fortune
The card that clarifies the character’s goal.
What is the character seeking?
What are the weaknesses they must improve before they can reach a resolution?
What figure symbolises this weakness in the character? How does their interaction highlight this weakness?
Outward signs: Missing treasure, a nemesis/enemy/shapeshifter.
Possible pitfalls: Fatalism, misunderstanding your life’s purpose.
Feeling in life: Unpleasant learning experiences, resistance.
11. Strength
Brings the character face to face with their first true test of inner strength.
It follows on from the Wheel of Fortune by applying pressure to the character’s weak points.
The character must “tame the beast within”, accept their shadow side, and welcome their anima or animus.
What happens to try the character’s weakness and test their strength?
What is the shadow side that they need to accept? Why is it difficult for them to do so?
Outward signs: A spirit animal, a wild animal needing to be tamed, another character who is in some respects the hero’s opposite.
Possible pitfalls: Pride, a hardened heart, mercilessness.
Feeling in life: Living life to the full, a passionate attachment to life, showing your claws when necessary.
12. The Hanged Man
This card represents an existential crisis.
This is when the character questions the purpose they took on in the Wheel of Fortune, and in fact, the whole journey up to this point.
While unity lies at the motionless centre of the wheel, and the struggle of daily life on the outside, the character stuck in this stage is the hamster running along the inner surface of the wheel.
Their whole experience of life is turned upside down, and until their perspective shifts to match their experience, they will be kept suspended.
What causes the character to question their purpose or their way of life?
What mistakes does the character keep repeating?
Outward signs: Something or someone hung, or held upside down, a revolution.
Possible pitfalls: Being caught in a vicious cycle, getting “hung up”.
Feeling in life: Repeating experiences like a broken record, mid-life crisis, inability to get out of your own way, having your patience tested.
13. Death
Death is a card that engenders fear, and the sooner the character learns to accept that fear instead of spending all of their energies trying to avoid the inevitable, the better (at least for them, perhaps not for story tension).
Death requires something to be left behind.
While this will feel like a hard sacrifice for the character, they will never make it while they’re carrying around “dead weight.”
What is the sacrifice the character must make?
Why is it impossible for the story to continue until this sacrifice is made?
How does the character try to avoid this sacrifice?
What are the consequences of the transformation brought by Death?
Outward signs: Bones, corpses, a wasteland, katabasis.
Possible pitfalls: Dying of fear, collapse.
Feeling in life: Ending, the search for peace and renewal, leave taking.
14. Temperance
Between the violence of Death and the Devil, stands the serene figure of Temperance.
The challenge of Temperance is to find a middle ground between being dead to physical existence (Death) and being chained to it (Devil) by our vices or excessive passions.
This is the key to making it out of the underworld alive.
Who or what guides the character through the (real or imagined) underworld?
How does the character tread the middle path after the loss they suffered in Death?
Outward signs: A guide, a light in darkness, unnatural stillness.
Possible pitfalls: Following false influences, ordinariness.
Feeling in life: Being forcibly dragged along, conformity, level-headedness, health.
15. The Devil
Represents the dark side of the anima/animus, as depicted by the chained lovers.
Often this manifests in a way that entices the character to act in complete contradiction to their deepest values.
For example, killing to save lives, lying to appear honest, torturing people into believing in a merciful deity, etc.
What aspects of their shadow self has the character been suppressing?
What enslaves the character?
How does the character betray all that they have been striving for?
Outward signs: Taking up arms to keep the peace, using the people you love for base gains, a scandal, a seducer.
Possible pitfalls: Being enslaved by the shadow side, leaving the true path, intemperance, lust, power struggles.
Feeling in life: Slavery, addiction, being taken captive, being seduced, doing things you don’t want to do, betraying yourself.
16. The Tower
The destruction of the Tower is the sign that the old world has become too confining.
The stage at which the character can show a side of themselves that no one would have suspected existed.
It is the sign that you can achieve the unthinkable.
What ideas are limiting the character’s view of the whole?
How can the character destroy these ideas in the most sudden, violent way possible?
How do others react to seeing the character’s hidden (and unsuspected) side?
Outward signs: An explosion, a breakthrough, the revelation of a new self, becoming visible.
Possible pitfalls: Defeat, collapse.
Feeling in life: Chaos, insecurity, surprise changes, escape.
17. The Star
Now we come to the 3 cards that represent a gradual lightening and emergence from the underworld: the Star, the Moon and the Sun.
The worst is now behind our hero, although their work isn’t done.
The Star is there to guide them to the next stage.
How does the character rejuvenate after their hard work in the Tower?
What abundant provisions do they enjoy?
How do they adjust to their new freedom of the world-view that was destroyed in the Tower?
Outward signs: A guiding light in the dark, a safe place to make camp, finding fresh provisions after a long journey.
Possible pitfalls: Forgetting the present while focusing on the future, being lost in daydreams, becoming complacent.
Feeling in life: Trust for the future, rejuvenation, youth.
18. The Moon
Represents a strange, changeable landscape that can easily confuse and trap the hero.
Although the character has triumphed, they must still navigate the dangerous return journey back to the ordinary world.
The hero must extricate themselves from the temptations of the underworld, return to the world of the living and bring with them the elixir of life, if they are to succeed fully.
The Moon is the greatest threat to losing their true name, but to characters who are prepared and who are adept at traversing their inner landscape, it is also the greatest opportunity.
This is the test of whether a character is truly the master of two worlds, and can cross and recross the treacherous threshold.
How is the return journey different to the outward journey?
How do past landmarks take on new meaning and new danger?
What are the temptations that make the character want to stay instead of returning home?
Outward signs: A changing landscape, a narrow gateway, a difficult crossing.
Possible pitfalls: Being lost in the enchanted forest, losing sight of the destination, becoming enslaved by fear.
Feeling in life: Anger, frustration, mistrust, nightmares, fears, longing.
19. The Sun
The stage at which the character finally leaves the underworld of adventure and returns to the light, ordinary world.
Looking back from this vantage point, the character realises that the enormous difficulties they just wrestled with actually boil down to a simple solution; that they would have triumphed much sooner had they not complicated the problem.
Now their task is to begin readjusting to the ordinary world, and reconciling the change in their inner world to the lack of change in the outer world.
How does the character re-emerge into the ordinary world?
How has the character changed, and how has the world stayed the same?
How does this cause conflict for the character and their allies?
Outward signs: Blinking against the light, waking up, watching the sun rise.
Possible pitfalls: Clichés.
Feeling in life: Feeling carefree, freedom, joie de vivre, lightness, fun, enjoyment.
20. Judgement
The Judgement card represents a final test of the character’s worthiness to be the bearer of the elixir of life.
If, by some chance, a false hero has managed to come this far, this is the stage at which they will be discovered and sent back to the underworld.
On the other hand, for the true hero, Judgement brings resurrection; a revitalising influence that is the final, freeing reward of their long journey.
What is the final test the character must undergo to prove their worthiness?
Why is the test easy for worthy characters to pass?
How can unworthy characters be discovered and punished?
Outward signs: Being reunited with loved ones, a return to life and vitality, verdure returning to a barren land, an arrest, a trial, a condemnation, an execution.
Possible pitfalls: To fail at cheating (for the unworthy hero).
Feeling in life: Feeling free and at peace.
21. The World
Is the resolution of the readjustment brought about in the crisis of the Hanged Man.
Brings unity to the opposites that have been battling for supremacy over the hero throughout their journey: dark & light, good & bad, action & inaction, male & female.
This isn’t because the world is suddenly free of strife, but because the character has accepted and dealt with both sides of the duality and thus earned freedom from them.
However temporary this freedom might be…
How does the World give the character the ability to disseminate their wisdom (or the “elixir of life”) far and wide?
What makes the unity of the World fragile? What might urge the character into another Fool’s Journey (and give you an opportunity for a sequel)?
Outward signs: A coronation, a homecoming, something in perfect balance.
Possible pitfalls: None.
Feeling in life: Joy, profound satisfaction, a feeling of finally being home.
NOTES
One final revelation about The Fool’s Journey, and indeed about any archetypal journey, is that their writers insist that certain stages of the story need to be taken in the prescribed order.
A character can’t skip building the ego during the “daytime” arc without facing the later consequences: material lack in the ordinary world and possibly ostracism.
Furthermore, an underdeveloped ego is not as great a challenge to abandon in the underworld, and whenever the sacrifice is small, so is the subsequent reward.

M6 with a super smart MC please?
The Arcana Mini-HCs: M6 with a super smart MC
Julian: he is so attracted to this. please let him talk medicine to you so you can talk back and use medical terms so obscure it makes his knees go weak - ah, that is, he enjoys academic discussions with you
Asra: forever fascinated and delighted by how quickly you learn and apply things. they're in the habit of lovingly treating you like a walking encyclopedia ("Hey MC, how do you think this works?")
Nadia: genuinely sees this as yet another universal sign that you two are made for each other. gives you the keys to the Library and loves nothing more than a late night discussing philosophy and astronomy
Muriel: a little intimidated at first, but admires your thirst for knowledge and your competency with it. likes asking small questions so he can listen to you share all of those brilliant thoughts of yours
Portia: she felt a teeeny bit jealous of your education at first, but once you two got together and she got to learn all these new things with you, you became her favorite conversation partner. tell her more!
Lucio: he was a little a lot threatened at first, but he grudgingly appreciated it because it was helping you solve his ghostly goatman situation. now he thinks you "talking smart" is a cool party trick

modern arcana headcanon that lives in my heart. julian as a famous actor and the star of a popular hospital drama. his character on the show is sort of a house md exhausted genius type, but with rakish grey's anatomy sex appeal, you know, one of those characters thirsted over by moms in their 40s/50s.
"so, julian, do a lot of people think you're that smart in real life?"
he raises an eyebrow, grinning at the interviewer. "excuse me?"
"oh, not that you're not smart! just that, you know, on the show you're like the genius doctor guy. do you ever meet fans who, like, think you're a real doctor?"
the smile broadens across his face, and beside him, you see his sister and costar roll her eyes. he loves getting asked that.
"i'm a board-certified epidemiologist and neurosurgeon, so i certainly hope they do!"

The shadows surrender to reveal the deck of cards beneath the flickering glow of a dying candle.
A soft sigh escapes his lips.
It wasn't uncommon for Taehyung to feel an initiative connection towards the deck he handles, or organizes, but what makes him intensely inquisitive is that once again, he feels the meticulous change about his surroundings. The sudden rise in temperature causes perspiration to gather around his temple, his throat cracking up with thirst, brain clogging up with an exhilarating energy which renders his mind empty.
The deck of cards resonate around his nimble fingers, and the glow of his jacquard fabric on his shawl glimmering a brilliant shine in his dim chamber. Taehyung’s hazel eyes concentrate on the message which they are trying to communicate; but something tells him that they're not messages, but rather, a signal. For him, to him.
Initially confused, he's not unfamiliar to any of the emotions he's going through, though. If anything, his heart palpitations grow as each whisper grows deeper in the depths of the night, and the stirring of his cock within his robes tells him that the message is solely for him; something which is a cue to be the querent.
With an anxious heart and an innate desire to understand what's the interpretation, he's quite relieved that the Arcana still resonates through their apprentices.
Lust.
His usually cold and eerily quiet chamber now tingles with the melody of the herb bottles crinkling against each other, notifying him of a possible augury. Whether it was a good one, or a bad one, was totally now upto what his fate had in for him.
His mind drifts over to the time when he used to work for his Master, and how his master especially warned him of the introspection sometimes the existential wisdom can lead him through the magical realm. A longing press vibrates against his chest at the remainder, something he admittedly made himself forget. A deep yearn for something, something.
Melancholy.
Shifting uncomfortably in his mat, Taehyung spreads out the deck of cards grasped within his hands on the table, each one carrying the weight of a story yet to unfold. His pupils dilate, threatening to shallow the thin, tawny ring surrounding them as his own energy intertwined with the symbolism of the cards, something Taehyung knew was necessary for proper response.
His hands, shuffling down the two decks to feel which card, frenzied their energies to reach out to him; his calculating gaze locked with the cards spread out and the energy between them pulsed with intensity. It was a representation of the unseen forces at play—a dance of hearts, an exploration of desire, suppression of feelings and congested desires.
His eyes widen when his brain tries to examine the possibility of two voices together in the realm; and when his hands sort out the two cards together to place them on the velvety rug, his eyebrows shoot up to his hairline, hiding underneath the black shawl he draped himself in.
The bubbling confusion dies in this throat. Impossible.
The Lovers card, now revealed, depicted two figures entwined in a dance; and right beside it stays the Five of Cups, unveiled in its melancholic vicinity, portrayed a solitary figure standing amidst spilled cups.
His palms feel sweaty by the time his lips part to withdraw an exasperated sigh, equally puzzled and frustrated about the peculiar and out of the box combination; but his heart throbbed at the confirmation of what he had surmised already.
So did his cock.
Even in the realms of clandestine destiny, there was no answer to which face of the conjuncture was for him— he wasn't bothered about any, but he was for the fact that the realm chose him. Arcana chose this odd combination for him. Ever since he's been told to never ever doubt Arcana and Their choices, Taehyung couldn't help but feel uncanny when he felt the tapestry of emotions inside him swirl like crazy— melancholy poking his heart with a potential to Destroy—and his body burning with the ache to touch himself, to please himself.
Yet none exceeded the excitement he felt at that moment, the dim illumination of the chamber making the glimmer of his eyes stand out with a grin stretched on his ridiculously pretty face.
Afterall, he was chosen for the fortune hour.

𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝑀𝑎𝑗𝑜𝑟 𝐴𝑟𝑐𝑎𝑛𝑎
So, I’ve done a post about why I add a character’s moral alignment, so I thought I would do it for the Tarot cards. Maybe you’ve noticed it or not (it is something I’ve only started doing).
Because there are 4 suits; Cups (Water), Wands (Fire), Swords (Air) & Pentacles (Earth). I decided this first post will be about the Major Arcana, to break up the Tarot - so it’s easier to digest, rather than have everything thrown at you.
content warning: the titles have the photos of the cards, some show human anatomy
Okay, so the Major Arcana is about a person going through different stages in their life. Starting off with The Fool - who is a curious innocent who wants to experience the world, to the end, ‘The World,’ meaning you’ve accomplished what was set before you.
Great Resources:
One.
Two.
Three.
Each zodiac sign has their own tarot card that represents them. Here’s a free website that tells you. I’ll provide the sun signs equivalent to their tarot card. Although you have your own personal one!
I’ll make another post on how to read tarot cards, because there’s a lot that goes into it. But with the Major Arcana, their messages are much clearer (inn my experience) then the Minor Arcana (the suits; cups, wands, swords, pentacles).
Also, when I read tarot, I include when a card comes out upside down. You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to. Do what feels right, it may seem silly or overstated, but your intuition is a superpower. Feel it in your gut. Listen to yourself.
These cards will represent the deeper, more life-impacting matters. The Major arcana deal with the major moments in our lives.
Tumblr media
𝟎. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐥
This is a card of rebirth. It signifies new opportunities. Telling us that it’s never too late to start fresh and follow your heart’s desire.
Zodiac Card: All signs
Keywords: Beginnings, Risks.

Reversed: Recklessness, risk, naievity, holding yourself back, stupidity, negligence.
Yes/No: Yes (although usually when a card is in reversed, it means the opposite. Again, you don’t have to take into account when the card is upside down. It’s completely fine to read them as if they were upright)
Advice: Don’t be afraid to take chances, and go on new adventures. However, think before making too big of a leap. Change is inevitable, embrace it rather than fight it. You never know what could happen next.

Sneak peek for the 100+ followers on the Relics of Light pre-release page!✨ It’s incredible to see the interest RoL gained and the support you’re showing, so here’s one of the main Arcana, the sun: . Inan was a Cor Dei hero and warrior, whose strongest weapon was joy. Every time his smile shone, his body became covered in light too; when this happened, he was as strong as twenty men: no slash nor blow could harm his flesh, and no enemy could withstand him. But more than the truly certainty of defeat, his opponents often gave up because in the face of so much laughter, the thirst for battle rarely survived for long. . A cura di @antonio.s.howl e @ezderu

BG3 meets VTM
So I'm a weirdo and I decided to glue together two of my hyper fixations: Vampire — The Masquerade and Baldur's Gate 3.
I've been playing VTM for 15 years now, and also acting as a Storyteller (GM) to it, but I'm prone to mistakes so if a vampire clan does not fit a character please let me know, let's jump into this weird, totally unhinged, theory together.
P.S.: I know that theoretically any clan can Embrace any individual, this is just a little joke with clan stereotypes and a silly way to imagine who would be Embraced into which clan and why. ALSO low-res clan symbol pics because I'm on my phone.
BG3 characters, but as Vampire Clans
(in alphabetical order)
Astarion: the whole Szarr clan would be a Hecata lineage. Rich, powerful, and full of sassy little bitches that turns into abusive sires that employs weird (and sometimes incestuous) "family" dynamics while also being obcessed with necromancy.
Tumblr media
Gale: prodigy wizard doomed with a hunger for knowledge and driven by the promise of unravel the mysteries of the occult, while also being a "yes-ma'am"? Tremere it is.
Tumblr media
Halsin: a shape-shifter who sometimes struggles with his bestial side and feels awkward in urban environments, just like a classic Gangrel.
Tumblr media
Jaheira: she pretends otherwise, but it is clear that she has a network of spies under her command, and a deep knowledge of her home city's dirtiest little secrets and hideouts. Even her personal life is shrouded by secrecy, secured against (most) prying eyes. She comes and goes in a blink, sometimes disappearing without leaving a trace. A true Nosferatu elder.
Tumblr media
Karlach: good old Brujah, with the head as hot as the heart, passionate and strong-willed (and stubbornly resolute) to fight for her goals and ideals.
Tumblr media
Lae'zel: nothing screams more "Banu-Haqim" than a fierce and straightforward gith with a strong sense of purpose and justice, a thirst for retribution and loyalty to the elders that she seems worthy.
Tumblr media
Minsc: threading a fine line between bold and oblivious, the embodiment of "The Fool" tarot Major Arcana. Completely unpredictable and impulsive, torn between the unhinged and the wise, finding sense where others see pure unbridled chaos, he would become a Malkavian.
Tumblr media
Minthara: she has enough poise and status to be a classic high-borne Ventrue, being able to proudly recite her sire's lineage all the way up to the very first of them. Born to rule, with a commanding presence and unwavering will. BUT!!! She is also vicious, ruthless and ambitious enough to get the attention of the clan Lasombra, and their shadow-bending powers also fit the Underdark pretty well, so I'm torn between those two clans for her, although strongly prone to Lasombra.
Tumblr media
Shadowheart: either by following Shar's principles or by completely defying the goddess, The Ministry is fit for her, be it for good or for evil, to tempt or to liberate, to expose secrets or hide it, to manipulate or to seek the truth, to be part of a cult or a leader to a sect. She can't fully abandon the spiritual aspect of life, be it for fullfil her desires or to serve her goddess.
Tumblr media
Wyll: the Prince of the Gate is the last romantic. He has an innate sensibility, grace, charm, beauty and an unbridled appreciation for arts and love-tale's romance that can be found among the most classy Toreador.

I AM UNCERTAIN???? (Yes this is a repost to make it its own post rather than a repost, looked messy)
Tumblr media
I'll try and break down my reasons for these suggested domains (which are not required to follow for these specific deities, do whatever you think feels right .w.)
The asterisk (*) means it is partnered content, and is not considered "official" (I just wanted more options listed)
Irene the Matron
Known to be benevolent and fair, seeing justice throughout the world (speculated to at times be a bit strange), Irene is connected to a lot of things. Rebirth, restoration, light, various stuff.
Why the Light Domain?Well... In the official D&D cleric domain subclass, it is described to promote the ideals of rebirth and renewal, truth, vigilance, and beauty. Aphmau is, while technically Irene herself, is also considered to be a type of reincarnation?
On top of that, Irene gave parts of her god-like abilities in the form of relics (I think????) to the Divine Warriors, granting them immortality. However, instead of being incapable of dying, they're instead put into a cycle of rebirth, which is still a form of immortality in some cases.
On top of that, Irene is often associated with the light. In Diaries Rebirth, Aphmau's markings glow with light whenever using her powers, so it felt like a safe bet to associate her with this suggested domain.
Why the Life Domain?Similar reason to the one above. Deities of life often promote vitality and health through healing the sick and wounded, caring for those in need, something Irene is known to do.
Why the Nature Domain? In Diaries Rebirth, Aphmau is able to heal the land with her divine magic. On top of that, Irene is also known to not just heal people, but also heal crops and nature in order to help others, so it felt fitting.
Why the Peace Domain? The peace domain is a very underused domain in D&D, but despite that, gods of peace inspire people of all sorts to resolve conflict and to stand up against those forces that try to prevent peace from flourishing. This felt like something that'd fit Irene, due to what she's often associated with.
Enki the Keeper
Enki is known to have a thirst for knowledge, especially regarding the arcane. He was one of the easier ones to find connections to.
Why the Arcana Domain? One of the easier ones to explain. He's skilled with magic, and knows how to create magical items out of thin air. Gods of the Arcana domain know the secrets and potential of magic intimately. For some of these gods, magical knowledge is a great responsibility that comes with a special understanding of the nature of reality.
For these reasons, this domain felt fitting for Enki.
Why the Knowledge Domain?Gods of the Knowledge Domain value learning and understanding above all, something that Enki is quite passionate about. He created a massive library to preserve his knowledge and records on the world, and even wrote about each individual Divine Warrior, albeit limited.
Like the Arcana Domain, this one felt self-explanatory
Why the Moon Domain? The Moon Domain is a subclass primarily from the Tal'Dorei Reborn book from Critical Role. It's stated that Moon Clerics are often depicted as guides, and within Gal'ruk, they have the saying "May Enki be with you", which is akin to "may he guide you" or something similar.
Shad the Destroyer
Shad wasn't always the angry, heartless Shadow Lord we know him in the series. This anger mainly stems from his distraught when Irene turns their daughter into a relic, which seems to indicate he is, in a way, a family man.
Why the Blood Domain? The Blood Domain is not part of the official 5e subclasses, but instead comes from the Tal'Dorei Reborn book from Critical Role. Blood Clerics can stem from two paths: Selfishness and Selflessness.
This domain also holds themes in regards to the connection between soul and body, which felt appropriate for what is known about Shadow Knights. It is about the power of sacrifice, the balance between life and death. It's likely Shad uses this domain for more selfish, and more malevolent reasons compared to most.
Why the Death Domain?A fun fact about the Death Domain, that I learned, is that it was originally created for DMs to create a "villainous" cleric, alongside the Oathbreaker Paladin. However, it's mostly evolved into something more.
The Death Domain is concerned with the forces that cause death, as well as the negative energy that gives rise to undead creatures. Because Shadow Knights are labeled as "Undead" within the MCD universe (which will be different for "awakened" Shadow Knights), especially since someone must die and hold a strong sense of vengeance to get Shad's attention, this domain felt suitable.
Why the War Domain?Gods of war watch over warriors and reward them for their great deeds. Some might be good, some bad, others neutral. The reason why I thought this domain would be suitable was because of Shad's militaristic nature we know him for as the Shadow Lord.
Shadow Knights also, for the most part, always stem from a militaristic background for a more "natural" selection, known to be guards under the rule of their respective lords. Because Shad is forming a military of vengeful souls of knighthood, it felt safe to say he would hold influence within the War Domain of clerics.
Esmund the Protector
Esmund is one of Irene's loyal warriors, her shield, and was a major point of conflict between Irene and Shad, as he held feelings for the woman he protected.
While not much is known about him on a personality level, it's clear he's protective, loyal, and self-sacrificial (to a point).
Why the Blood Domain?Although the Blood Domain can be viewed as an "evil" domain, it's far from it, as every domain can be good and evil. The reason behind the decision to grant him access to the Blood Domain (from Tal'Dorei Reborn) was because he appears to be the kind to sacrifice himself to protect others he cares about.
Even though this isn't a very strong reason, it felt suitable for him in some regard.
Why the Light Domain?Even though it's not much, I feel like he'd hold some influence over this domain because of his connection to Irene, or his stance on being her loyal protector.
There's not a lot of "light" symbolism with him outside of his hair and shield, but considering he's an ancestor of Garroth, and seems to hold up a desire of truth and vigilance (in some manner), this domain felt suitable in some regard.
Why the Order Domain? This domain represents discipline, as well as devotion to a type of law, an institution, or a philosophy. In his case, that would be his devotion to Lady Irene.
Esmund is a knight, seemingly more so compared to the other Divine Warriors. Because of this, the Order Domain felt suitable in some regard (yes, this is being repeated).
Why the War Domain?Although Shad may be a god of war in a malevolent sense, I feel as though Esmund would be the "light" version of this domain, but isn't the only one who would be associated with it.
Clerics of the War domain can include champions of honor and chivalry, something that seems to be what Esmund symbolizes in some manner.
Menphia the Fury
While not much is known about Menphia directly, we do know that she is mostly renown within the Tu'la region, and isn't recognized by many within Ru'aun.
Because of the lack of knowledge known of Menphia, there will be some creative interpretations (as there will be for nearly all of these characters).
Why the Forge Domain?Although not much tells us about what Menphia's personality and background is like, we do know that the Tu'la region is more technologically advanced compared to Gal'ruk and Ru'aun, which are more magic-focused.
The Forge domain focuses on what it suggests: a forge. Essentially a blacksmith's path in religion. The domain practices patience and hard work, and that your patience will be rewarded once something is created.
Although this domain doesn't specify what it connects to the most outside of forging, this option felt somewhat suitable to what Menphia might be associated to in some manner.
Why the Light Domain?Even though Esmund and Irene have some influence within this domain, the reason behind this decision is different from theirs. While she may be a Divine Warrior of Irene, my decision for choosing this is its association with fire and sunlight.
As a follow up on the Forge Domain, fire is necessary to make things with a forge, hence its connection. On top of that, the Tu'la region, mostly in regards to Meif'was, seems to have a type of connection or sense of comfort from the sun.
Although not much is known about Menphia, this domain felt suitable for her in some regard.
Why the War Domain?Outside of being a Divine Warrior, the Tu'la region is associated with not only monarchy, but with war as well. It is known to be militaristic and powerful when it comes to technology.
While only vague, it felt somewhat suitable for her in some regard.
Kul'zak the Wanderer
Out of the members of the Divine Warriors, he is one of the few that seems to have the least amount of knowledge known for his personality and behavior.
From what I could find, there's not much in regards to the reasoning behind his title, nor his influence within the history of the Divine Warriors.
Since his title is very vague, much like Menphia's, there will be some creative interpretation.
Why the Grave Domain? This one is an interesting take... Gods of the grave watch over the line between life and death. Followers of this domain also seek to put wandering spirits to rest, destroy the undead, and ease the suffering of the dying.
Deciding to stick with a "Wandering" theme, this domain felt suitable due to its relation to aiding those who wander, such as spirits and undead, hoping to ease other's suffering.
Why the Tempest Domain? This domain is associated with weather, while also being connected to the sea and elements. Many followers of this path may be seafaring folks, and travelers, those who hold courage.
While a good number of gods of this domain are associated with violence and physical strength, it doesn't have to always be the case. This felt suitable in some regard because of its association with travelers (mainly with seafarers).
Why the Twilight Domain? This domain is, functionally, considered a "broken" subclass, as it provides a ridiculous amount of dark vision at level one (in the 2014 edition).
As stated on its page: "Clerics who serve these deities bring comfort to those who seek rest and protect them by venturing into the encroaching darkness to ensure that the dark is a comfort, not a terror."
While not much is known about Kul'zak, this domain felt like something he'd have a connection with. He, along with Menphia were not known to harbor any feelings towards Irene like the other members of the Divine Warriors did, and provided aid when it came to vanquishing Shad.
This gives me the feeling that he's somewhat of a protector, a source of respite for those growing weary from their travels.
Not a lot of these are very strong points, I was just trying to go off what I could find on the Wiki and could come up with ideas that could suit each one.
Of course, deities are not limited to only being followers of clerics, anyone can be religious. Clerics just happen to be followers that devote themselves to the divine and happen to be recognized and granted abilities associated with their respective domain.
You can be a traveling bard who follows the path of Kul'zak, or a fighter who follows the path of Esmund, etc.
And if someone was to play a cleric, I would say that you don't have to limit yourself to these suggested domains to be a follower of one specific deity. That would be very restrictive, and everyone has their own general idea on what domain best fits who.
Anyways, uh...yeah, this is what I got. I'm open to feedback and suggestions! (I will be making a guide on how to make custom deities within this as well, as it was stated that Irene and Shad were blessed by EXISTING GODS that seem to have little to no influence over the main story, so who's to say there can't be more outside of the Divine Warriors? [insert shrug emoji]
