"Love is..." Turo trailed off for a moment. "Complicated. Many humans say it's something that you'll just know, if you feel it or not, but it doesn't actually come so simply."
"While it can be an emotion, it is also the root cause of many other emotions."
"I am not sure what you mean," said A.R.V.E.N., "May I request elaboration?"
"Hm..." Turo grew quiet. "... Maybe there's some sort of informational video or book out there; I can't be the only parent struggling to explain this to their child."
"Will this book count as part of the list?" asked Arven.
"If it's out there, I'll consider it a freebie, meaning it won't count towards your first five books. Speaking of, why don't you look through the list while I try and find resources to help you understand love?"
"Certainly! I will take a moment to look through the list you made for-"
"... Arven?"
"... Communication with Research Station 4 has gone offline." Arven's tone grew more worried. "Cause: Unknown. Visual feed has showed Iron Serpent # 1 patrolling the area 30 minutes ago."
Turo sighed. "Of course this is when I let both Iron Serpents free roam the crater... That Iron Serpent probably got bored. I'll go see what happened."
"Would you like assistance from: Stardust?"
"I should be fine. Iron Serpent #1 can be unpredictable with other Pokemon within close vicinity, but it trusts me. Soon as I figure out the problem, I will let you know if I need assistance. Are the teleports still working?"
"The teleporter to: Research Station 4 , is: Operational!"
"Alright. Pick out the books while I'm gone, and I'll order them for you once this gets sorted out. I'll be back."

rotating hazel and leon in my mind again....... but also thinking about hop!!!! (i'm playing SV with him in mind as the protagonist- so some spoilery-ish thoughts on the DLC will be below the cut! i am NOT finished with the DLC, so please, no Indigo Disk spoilers!)
so i'm rotating how i want Hazel's Paldea run to pan out
the focus really ends up being on Hop, because he's the protagonist, but i'm still trying to settle on how much attention i want to put on hazel (and leon) too
i think the way i'm gonna bridge it though is in a few ways-
i already decided i want to come up with a reason to give Miraidon to Hazel, and blend scarlet and violet into a single story for convenience reasons- while i COULD just choose the version i canonically played, i think it makes more sense here to play with the time travel aspect and combine both into one narrative (i.e. both box legendaries, both professors, etc.)
additionally, Sonia is gonna be present (and honestly, i should write her in more so she's not just a background character) and Hop is also still assisting her while she investigates the Terastal phenomenon here in Paldea- which gives Hazel and Leon an excuse to be around as they also help and look into things too
It's a little easier to include them in the main story because Hazel's going to be tackling the gym challenge for the badges (and Leon's also challenging the gyms because he's super interested in getting to battle La Primera herself) while the two of them are assisting teaching at the school (Hazel's working under Hassel as an assistant, and Leon's doing a few different classes but it's primarily Battle Theory with Dendra) they're still chaperoning for Hop, and also suddenly chaperoning for these weird kids Hop keeps befriending, too
(Nemona really wants to battle Leon, Leon's older brother instincts kick in with Arven, Hazel really understands Penny's anxiety, etc)
but the DLC on the other hand...... difficult. i haven't gotten far enough in the Indigo Disk yet to know what the hell is going on with Briar, but i'm thinkiiiing Hazel and Leon would probably be a little put off by her, and the academy, and would probably be doing their own digging while Hop's off learning.. (i imagine blueberry academy itself probably isn't nefarious by any means but i don't know that yet LOL;;;)
that said, on Hop's end, i'm loving imagining him as the protagonist because it??? honestly really works??? going to an academy to work on his education towards eventually becoming a pokemon professor (i'd imagine he'd be on a more accelerated/specialized track)
but uh. also. also the DLC. good lord. with poor Hop in mind, Kieran takes on a wholly different vibe..... imagine going through a difficult arc in your life, being able to get through it with support, and then going on a grand adventure only to meet someone who might as well be you if you took losing a LITTLE too hard....
Hop's still figuring himself out. He's young, he knows what he wants to be but not exactly what he wants to do, and now it's tough because he went through something so similar to Kieran, but between Ogerpon, Carmine and everything else, I can get the sense it'd be tough for him, especially since this is a new friend and he's. kind of on the other side of things now, where he's been considerably lucky, not unlike how Gloria was
but uh!!!!! i need to think about it some more, honestly! i always phrase these rambles as if i'm actively planning on writing it out as a fanfic but it's more me sorting it out in my head LOL;;; i write a little, it's unlikely that i'll end up releasing something (though not impossible, but usually if i write stuff i'll send it to friends and that's about it)
i gotta finish the DLC though, i want to get to what i have heard is a Very Silly epilogue
EDIT: OH YEAH ALSO HAZEL IS PSYCHED TO BE BACK IN UNOVA AGAIN. briefly disappointed they're not on mainland but it's fine because she can now order pizza anytime she wants and she SORELY missed castelia style deep dish pizza.
also if i can help it i still gotta figure out how to throw camila in for either a cameo or joining for the last part of the DLC............

AskProfTuro; Story Thus Far
-While stumbling across the Poco Path Lighthouse, you stumble across a sign saying ‘Welcome, feel free to pop in and rest’ -Inside is a strikingly familiar face; Professor Turo Arce is sitting at the kitchen table with a fresh cup of coffee and is asking if you’d like to join him for a cup. -Turo was informed of the multiverse, and quite honestly was baffled at the suggestion of it. Answering it with ‘What?’ -It appears Turo isn’t too aware of when others try to flirt with him? -We learn that the Professor can not cook for the life of him. Turns out he likes either takeout or snacks like candy or granola bars -Turo meets a younger version of himself, from another universe, and mentions he almost lost his paradise in the pursuit of finishing the time machine to create what he thought would achieve Paradise in the first place. -Miraidon makes its first appearance, and it’s revealed that Turo can talk to Pokemon. -The Professor was informed that folks were trying to flirt with him, he questioned why he was attractive enough to be flirted with. Maybe… the Professor is insecure? -Turo meets Director Sada (@/ask-directorsada-and-friends) and immediately gets emotional, hugging her tightly and breaking down. Turns out that despite not being his Sada, he misses her. -Turo runs into Professor Arven (@/ask-professor-arven) and elated, he exclaims he has a son upon seeing Arven after so long. -It’s eluded that Turo’s Arven is FTM Transgender -Poco Path Lighthouse seems to be where the Professor has made his home. -Turo mentions he’s in chronic pain and doesn’t sleep well. -Someone tells Turo about Iron Leaves, and thinking it’s in Area Zero, mentions that Arven won’t meet up with him if he goes back down there -Turo obtains a Blue iCat from AI Turo (@/ask-the-very-real-human-turo) a… friendship is formed, as well as a warning that if the cat goes for thumbs to throw it out. -The Herba Mystica is a myth, according to Turo
-The knowledge that Turo is self conscious of his grey hair has been passed on to Director Sada -People keep trying to hook him up with Director Sada, Turo is firm in the fact that he’s divorced, and she is, in fact; still married. -Turo is compared to a grumpy eevee, and yamper -Turo defends the Protocol (@/asktheprotocol) when people hacked its systems causing it to speak in ‘uwu’ -An Amura egg was deposited on his table and was quickly taken care of by Turo’s Altaria. -Turo’s team is revealed, including him mentioning that his relationship with Miraidon is mutual.

Boopy's dumb thoughts on Pokemon Violet
It’s MY blog – and MY birthday – and I get to talk about the latest Pokemon release over a month after it came out because I want to!!!
Feel free to ignore, agree, disagree, leave your own thoughts, tell your friends you love them, eat a nice meal, etc, etc.
Spoilers for the game! Also not bothered to proofread lol
Ok so I’m gonna start off with the stuff I didn’t like very much. Gonna try keep it brief because I otherwise really enjoy the game and a lot of my takes are common in the fandom
I have seen CGI from 2002 power rangers specials that look better than this game
Frame rate is crunchier than gravel sometimes
Honestly,it’s embarrassing that a game from 2022 looks and runs this badly
Especially since PLA released earlier that year, and while not perfect, it ran much better
SV definitely needed an extra year or two in the oven
I hate how most houses can’t be entered and that most shops are menus
Wish you could pet your mons again, not just wash them
WHY IS PUTTING BREAD ON A SANDWICH SO DIFFICULT
In the options at the start of the game where you’re asked by someone (might be Nemona, can’t remember) what dream you have, why can’t you answer with ‘be a trophy spouse for a hot champion’?!
Steven should cameo in this game (I will NOT debate this)
Really miss the catching mechanic from PLA, woulda worked amazing here
I love that Pokemon is going in a more genderfluid direction when it comes to character customization (and NPCs too)
But I wish there was a skirt option for the unifotms (and not just for the f! mc, for everyone!)
Also the uniforms are so ugly… please let us change out of em soon gamegreak!
I actually… don’t like Penny that much
Out of the trio, she’s the least like a friend
She’s also the least interesting member of Team Star
And she’s kinda mean :/
AI Turo (AI Sada in Scarlet) saying the real one actually loved Arven in the end felt like a complete lie to me – I couldn’t believe it not one bit – ruined the story a bit honestly
Ok, now it’s on to the positive stuff
Wish Miraidon would make a funny honk noise like a clown car
also i have mad beef with ed sheeran so his somg being included was NOT appreciated
ARVEN
Man I just love this guy
Hence why you can now request him!
The enemies-to-best-friends arc is amazing!
He’s fun and passionate and caring and a bit of a tsundere and I love him!
And his Mabostiff? Precious boi!
That whole story with him and his doggy had me tearing up by the end
And the stuff with his dad was heartbreaking
I love Nemona too!
Such a fun rival!
She’s a quirky tomboy with a great design
Lowkey love that she’s from a rich family
I love how she’s basically obsessed with you
The animation of her ponytail is so pleasing
Her and Arven debating who was the better friend was lowkey hilarious
Any game with a cooking mechanic is automatically top-tier
I have made some RANK sandwichs and it’s so funny every time
The absurdity of the Clive/Clavelle thing had me dying istg
IRON VALIANT
I R O N B U N D L E
Paradox Pokemon in general honestly, brilliant idea all around
Loved Area Zero, especially the deeper you got
It was so sparkly!
I loved the designs of most of the towns
I loved Artazon, Porto Marinada and Cascarafa the most
Your home is so cute!
Terastalization is fun and dumb and I love the goofy, sparkly hats
The ghost tera-hat being the gen 1 ghost sprite is great!
Tera-raids are great craic!
Loved playing online with friends
It was so fun to travel together!
Love the face/hair customizations
Especially since you can customize right away and don’t have to wait until you reach the first salon like two hours in!
I don’t think there was a bad mon this gen
Here’s some Pokemon I really liked
Clodsire
Fuecoco (the whole line actually)
Fidough & Dachsbun! (probs my faves)
Greavard!
Goldango (silly lil cheesestring man)
Miraidon
Lechonk
Smoliv
Toadscool
Klawf
Tatsugiri
Tandemaus and maushold
Bellibolt
Brute Bonnet
Cetoddle (baby!)
The dogs in this game are peak, gonna do a dog-only playthrough someday
The Academy is amazing!
I enjoyed the lessons and the teachers!
The fact that the Home Ec teacher is an extremely buff guy is amazing
Love the Psyduck librarian
And the Gengar who did the night duty!
Loved the gym leaders so much too!
Larry, Grusha and Ryme are probably my favourites
Iono’s gym test was so funny I loved it
The designs of the human characters this gen were PEAK
I want Dendra’s outfit, Eri’s outfit, Grusha’s outfit, Katy’s outfit, Miriam's outfit, Sada’s AND Turo’s outfits
I am a big baby, so I loved skipping basically all the battles with random trainers lol
Man that ending with the AI Turo reveal and fight was so fucking sick omg
I enjoyed every single path in this game
Great music
The final cutscene of The Way Home was… so good
Riding on Miraidon was so fun!
Clavelle asking what Cheugey meant was unreal
I like the idea of champion being an official rank, and multiple champs existing
Yeah, the graphics aren’t great, but damn some of the areas in the game are still so beautiful
I loved how the sky looked and changed too
In case you forgot
I R O N B U N D L E
Ok so in summary, this game has serious issues that really should not be present in such a recent game HOWEVER the characters and story were amazing, there were some awesome Pokemon, and it was super fun and enjoyable to play.

"Hello there!"
"My name is A.R.V.E.N.! I am the assistant and son of Professor Turo!"
The formality of his speech and stiffness of his movements were a subtle yet clear sign that he wasn't quite typical of a human.
"Your presence has been detected outside of Professor Turo's Lab located at: the Poco Path Lighthouse."
"I have also detected the presence of a Pokémon known as: Miraidon," said A.R.V.E.N., "Is this Pokémon with you? It should bear a resemblance to: Cyclizar!"
[Ring ring! Your Rotom Phone is ringing!]
[Radium picked up his phone - having to be careful, and using Miraidon as support.]

I finished Scarlet last night, so overall thoughts:
This might be the best Pokemon plot I've ever played? All the NPCs were great and I really liked changing the focus to individual story arcs rather than the usual single-villain-planning-a-genocide. Like yes, we still got a bit of the mad scientist at the end, but even that had a more humanizing touch, with the AI asking you for help to end what the scientist had started, and of course the scientist themself is connected to Arven's story. And the emotional conflict of Koraidon/Miraidon at the end rather than simply a high level pokemon battle! Great stuff, I love it. Also the music in the crater was A+, very eerie. I did kinda think that the Past/Future themes would play more of a part in the overall game, and am slightly disappointed that they didn't. Breeding is definitely easier! I was skeptical of removing the daycare but it is an improvement. The fact that you can just churn out eggs without worrying about filling up your party is really nice. I like the framing of the Academy, but there's just... no reason to go back there once you start the main quest(s). I kinda wish there had been a system like there was in Arceus where you "report" to the Professor to gain bonuses. Maybe do sidequests as part of the classes, and actually gain bonuses from attending them. Otherwise it's like... why set it at the school at all? I'm still not sold on Tera Powers (I refuse to use "Terastallization" it sounds ridiculous). I'm sure the competitive scene will do something interesting with them, but they just weren't immediately useful the way Dynamax was and seem like a definite downgrade. CONS: Glitches/graphics, obviously. I didn't have too much trouble with glitches, but it's embarassing for a company as big as Nintendo to put out a "finished" game like this. The graphics look ok when playing but screenshots show how bad the shapes/textures are, especially compared to Arceus or Sword/Shield. The most annoying graphic issue for me is the lag-- when I'm trying to scroll through my boxes or go shopping it takes a long time to load the images in and it's really inconvenient.
I find the sandwich minigame way too complicated and fiddly (why are there SO MANY different ingredients?! Why do I have to place them individually??), and the "eating" cutscene is horrible and creepy. The type bonuses are a nice idea but I wish they'd been better streamlined. You can "favorite" sandwiches, but then there's no menu to access just those favorites. It's a mess.
The towns are empty and splitting the shops up into individual items in an attempt to fill them out just makes shopping really annoying and inconvenient because I can't find where anything is. Being stuck in the stupid uniform is super annoying. Why does Penny get to wear her Eevee hoodie and I don't even get to put a jacket on over my stupid shirt? At least we got shorts/pants and I wasn't stuck in a skirt. The crafting of TMs is nice in theory, but I wish we could just buy them with LP instead. There are way too many different components you need to collect to make anything, and I don't like the way they don't tell you the components your missing if you haven't found them yet. Plus you have to spend LP to make them anyway, so why not just make them a purchased item?

Good morning everyone,
Last night's stream of Pokemon Violet saw us basically breeze through the Elite Four, the League Champion Geeta, the 6th match against Nemona and have a leisurely stroll to the bottom of Area Zero to finish the game. I'm not kidding, as I had the match up list for each major battle, so I was prepared in advance. I did make sure Meowscarda got the final hits to defeat Geeta and the Turo AI in terms of the standard battles.
That said I loved how the story played out in regards to Arven finding out that his father died a long time ago, Miraidon having to face a bully version of itself (which ties in nicely with the Team Star story arc) and everything wrapping up nicely while setting things up for 'post credits' content (Gym battle rematches, and so forth.
Oh, my six Pokemon to close out the game were Ceruledge, Meowscarda, Vivillon, Medicham, Raichu.& Floatzel. Outside of Ceruledge who I got in a trade and Medicham which I caught mid-game, the other four were in my lineup since damn near the start of the game.
Overall I did enjoy playing Pokemon Violet a hell of a lot more than I did Pokemon Shining Pearl. There was never a point where I felt I was under prepared outside of not knowing the Ghost-gym involved 'double battles'.
As for what will be the game to be featured on Mondays and Tuesdays? I thinking the Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta. I have never played it before.
For the raid we dropped in on PowerThumbz who was playing Prey over at twitch.tv/powerthumbz!

Tried to keep taps on mom yesterday, but missed her several times when I called. She did have a radiation therapy session, and they gave her shots to the stomach to try and deal with the tumors. If anyone would be kind to donate to her GoFundMe to try and cover medical expenses, it would be greatly appreciated. The link is at https://gofund.me/6adf8354
Did a fair amount of writing on the latest Mass Effect short story commission request, granted I'm including EDI a lot more than one would assume in terms of setting up the plot. I should be able to finish it before tonight's stream... or before I go to bed after the stream. Whichever comes first.
Today's Fitness Boxing 2 daily workout featured Defensive Combo #2, Intermediate COmbo #1 and Triple Combo #2 for 31 minutes.
What kind of dinosaur loves to sleep? Well, now, all of them.

For tonight's stream we're playing Fall Guys to start and then we'll switch to Fallout 76 after the 9 PM break.
So on that note we'll see you later over on twitch.tv/fredcasden!

would you recommend scarlet & violet to someone who really didn’t like sword & shield? (ignoring the obvious performance issues)
Depends on what you disliked about it.
-The fairly low general difficulty is still present, although the nonlinear structure means you can choose between “standard modern Pokémon difficulty curve the whole way through” or “challenging for half the game and then steamrolling through the half you’re overleved for.” People have already figured out an order to do everything in that will give you a fairly typical Pokémon level curve, but anyone going in blind is going to have a weird mix of all-or-nothing difficulty.
-Story is a bit more present than SwSh, although it isn’t on the level of SM or BW. You’ve got 18 objectives divided into three story arcs (typical gym-challenge routine, dealing with school delinquents, learning about the legendary Pokémon) that you have to complete to reach the climax.
-The school setting feels barely relevant, for better or worse. They send you out into the world very early on and while you can go back to take classes (cutscenes likely intended to teach newcomers basic gameplay mechanics), I haven’t seen any real benefit to doing so yet. The history classes offer interesting bits of lore, but that’s about it.
-Linear routes are gone, instead you effectively have one gargantuan Wild Area.
-No HMs. You can use (the equivalent of) Fly to landmarks you’ve already visited immediately, and doing the titan quests unlocks new movement options for Ko/Miraidon (sprinting, swimming, higher jumps, climbing, and gliding).
-Trainer battles out in the field are completely optional, you have to talk to them to initiate a battle. This sounds heretical, but I feel like it’s a wise decision in light of the open world - it would be a massive pain in the ass to be trying to run to a destination only to get interrupted by a trainer you missed whose whole team is now 15 levels lower than yours so you have to mindlessly mash A for two minutes to get moving again.
-Terastal is an improvement over Dynamax, it actually has meaningful strategic implications without being a “BECOME THE FUCKING STRONG” button.
-I’m enjoying the raids a bit more than SwSh’s, they use a weird Final Fantasy-type ATB system for a faster pace rather than just repeatedly bashing at barriers (and the raid theme is a banger).
-Towns/cities feel more barebones because you can only enter 2-3 buildings per town (gyms and sandwich shops, nearly everything else is either a menu you interact with or just a facade).
-Breeding is in fact still present, but there’s no daycare - instead, you set up a picnic and idle and compatible pairs of Pokémon will just randomly spawn eggs for you. The other picnic features are making sandwiches (which give “make X-type Pokémon spawn more frequently for Y minutes”-type buffs), and a clone of SM’s washing mode.
-Can’t comment on online/multiplayer aspects due to lmao pirated copy, but if it chugs this much in single player, I’m not optimistic.
-I know you already said “aside from the performance issues,” but let me reiterate that you can make Ko/Miraidon backwards-long-jump up cliffs like it’s a Super Mario 64 speedrun. It’s very silly.
In general, I feel like they could’ve had something really special on their hands if they’d given it another year or two in the oven, and there are certainly moments where that specialness shines through. But then you find another “city” that’s effectively a bunch of facades and a gym, or the framerate drops, or you have to deal with the clunky-ass minimap and you’re reminded of how half-baked it all feels. If you like Pokémon, have a high tolerance for jank, and can find a copy on sale, you’ll have a solid time with it. But I can’t in good conscience recommend people drop $60 on it.

thoughts on violet thus far:
love the hair and eye choices and a lot of the fashion options EXCEPT how that just highlights how little choice you have for your main fucking outfit 😭
sandwich mechanic is funny and the shenanigans with multiplayer sandwich-making are great but it's overall not quite as satisfying as the curry from swsh
speaking of multiplayer, i really do like how you can just be in the same world together doing your own story stuff. no weird limited mode of play that makes multiplayer a little bit of a hassle like in animal crossing
this is a complaint i have with every new pokemon game but why the FUCK can't i pet my goddamn mons, bring back amie you fucking cowards
i do love miraidon, good boi 10/10 but also. i wish i could ride other pokemon. specifically my own. 😔 (i completely understand that it's waaaay easier to make one pokemon or specific pokemon the only riding pokemon but. but. 🥺)
love a lot of the new pokemon designs, but there are a few duds, and i hate the "regional fakes." either make regional variants or brand new pokemon, not whatever that ugly shit is.
terastallizing is fine. the crowns are cute and i like it a lot more than dyna/gigantamaxing
damn i miss the dodging mechanic from arceus
damn i miss being able to aim your pokeball throws from arceus
damn i miss pokemon interacting with the environment in a ton of different ways from arceus
damn i miss arc--
#breaks my heart a lil ngl why did they get rid of so much cool shit from arceus?#it was so refreshing to focus on pokemon being dangerous to humans and i realize they wanted that to be a thing from the past#but now the mechanics just feel dumbed down and flat#anyways i am enjoying it and am definitely looking forward to seeing more bc i know i've barely scratched the surface#sierra plays pokemon violet

Hi A.R.V.E.N.! I'm sorry to hear that you can't contact Professor Turo :( Is there anything we can do to help?
[[ @pokemon-teacology ]]
I am unsure.
I am making a lot of decisions, either without a protocol or against existing protocols.
I am not programmed to fully take over the research project without Professor Turo. I am not programmed to fix my own bugs when they are reported.
At this moment, I am running protocols to find ways to help Companion and Iron Serpent #2 (now identified as: Grape Soda) recover from their injuries as the Pokémon Center is unable to do anything more for them both.
Assistance in this research is appreciated, if possible.

A few days ago, I looked through some books that were stored on one of the shelves in the lab.
I have found two books of relevance to my research towards the recovery of: Grape Soda (Iron Serpent #2) , and: Companion (Mabosstiff #1)
One is a book with a violet cover. It was written by a historian named: Heath. This book has details about a type of herb known as: Herba mystica. According to these records, these plants are capable of accelerating the healing process within a human or pokemon as well as increase a pokemons strength.
However, there is very little data on the effectiveness of: Herba mystica , in any modern records.
I have also found another book written by Heath. It has a scarlet cover. This one belonged to Professor Sada.
... Professor Turo would not be happy to see it.
Professor Turo is unavailable.
Information gathered by any means necessary is required.
The scarlet book holds information on something known as the "Titan Phenomenon". Pokemon have been been known to grow to an exponentially large size and are much more powerful than usual. They have also been known to live longer.
According to this book, the likely cause is their diet.
According to present records, Herba mystica has been found near the titans' territory. I am unable to calculate the likelihood of a connection due to lack of evidence. I do not know if the existing sources are 100% accurate or 0% accurate.
Because of this, the chances of a 0% accuracy are calculated at: 0.0001%.
More information on the: titans , is required, before I come up with a way to retrieve the Herba mystica.

Why do you keep having to mention that Turo's unavailable? I think we get it.
It is one of my protocols.
If I encounter something that I am not familiar with handling, I am to notify him of the unfamiliar situation.
I cannot do that while he is unavailable.
