While I am all for switching to non-MS programs (Notepad++ is indeed better all around than the basic Notepad), I feel like it might be prudent to point out that the basic functions of Notepad will still be free according to the article. What they're trying to charge for is "full access," which is, most prominently, an AI tool that will rewrite highlighted text. I'm guessing most of us in the sizeable AI-hating camp were never using that feature in the first place, if using Notepad at all.

The first comment implies that the entirety of Notepad will be unavailable without paying. If you read the article, that's pretty quickly stated as untrue.
