I would like to humbly request the red widow (Latrodectus bishopi). It’s only found in the scrublands of central and southern Florida and is currently a threatened species, most likely due to habitat loss.
Wow, they're gorgeous!

They are considered vulnerable globally, and imperiled in the state of Florida.

“A species of spider, previously unknown to science, has been found in the grounds of a university campus in Cornwall.
The small jumping arachnid was discovered in 2023 during an annual nature survey to find and identify different species on the University of Exeter’s Penryn campus.
The University said several of the new species were collected and deemed "unlikely to be a Cornish native" - specimens were then sent to a spider expert at Manchester Museum, who confirmed they matched nothing in Europe.”

META KNIGHT AS SPIDER PLS 🤲
Tumblr media
Misumenoides formosipes of the family Thomisidae! This ambush hunter prefers to keep himself concealed while attacking his prey. His long purplish legs also remind me of Meta Knight. Females of this species are often a solid bright yellow.

These guys only started showing up in the U.S. about 25 years ago. I was super stoaked to see one in person in my house. A lot of his gorgeous features were lost in my bathroom lighting... but he was stunning. Look at those chelicerae!

Being Australian, I was afraid of spiders once. But after learning there's only about 5 spiders that are actually deadly here and how to identify them, I've lost a lot of my fear. Well that and:
Living with a house spider in my window and watching her go about her life for half a year.
Having to sleep with a huntsman about a foot away from my face for a night. I'd wake up after about an hour of sleep, and she would still be there, perfectly still, exactly where she was before. Until she left around about 5PM when the sun rose. She didn't jump, sprint or bite. She calmly walked behind my furniture, & I never saw her again.
And now;

Hi, could you do the garden wolf spider (Tasmanicosa godeffroyi) in honour of the one that sprinted across my living room?
Sure thing!

Little cutie hanging out in a window. Looks like a younger Phiddippus audax, but I wasn’t gonna bother them too much to look much closer.

Trichonephila clavipes of the family Nephilidae! She spins beautiful golden silk. Her orange opisthosoma reminds me of Ashley’s style, plus she has little leg warmers just like a Y2K girlie!
