Ooooooo I really wanna hear about the ghost hunter au now

So I have to say, I basically just throw them into an old iwaoi au I had with a friend. So credit where credit is due! @bluesailsandcalicotails this goes out to you!! Aran and Tao are now wondering in a version of our Ghost Hunter au!

After an injury brings a break to Tao's basketball career he ends up being angry and burned out and needs a change. So he buys a nice house in a small town and wants to start new with a small food shop. But quickly after he moved he realizes that something isn't right with his new home and there is no such thing as peace and calm. He has a Poltergeist. After a lot of research he finds Aran, a Bodega owner by day and Ghost Hunter by night who lives in town.

Tao hires Aran, and Aran does his job and tries to get the Poltergeist out of the house. It turns out to be more complicated so the two spend some time together. As tao doesn't know people yet in town, and he likes to cook, he uses Aran's shop as an excuse to shop and catch up with Aran and they slowly start some kind of friendship.

The poltergeist is gone, so it seems. But Tao is incredible tired, suffers with nightmares and looks more and more drained. This is not the burnout he knows back from his injury and failed career. He was felling better. One night his nightmare turns into realty and he is being woken by something shaken the bed and grabbing him. An awful chase happens, but Tao makes it out of the house and as he has nowhere else to go he finds shelter at Aran's place.

Aran takes him in and tries his best to deal with a scared, terrified, tired and broken Tao. The next day when Tao is asleep after a restless night, Aran goes to the house and finds that the Poltergeist wasn't the issue, but there is a demon that has hide from him. It's a whole disaster and a big thing and the demon is calling for Tao and all gets messy. But in the end Aran and Tao manage.

Now the house is clean and free, but it's tainted for Tao. He just wanted to start over! Have some peace. Now he feels drained and scared and is selling the house. And he sure could afford getting a new one (remember, former NBA career) but he is tired and doesn't want to be alone so he keeps crashing with Aran.

And from there their blooming friendship slowly slowly turns into more. Tao is still in the closet, as were Aran is out. Tao is scared and still suffers from the demon attack. So things go slow. Lots of slowburn. But it's happening.

Eventual Tao might even help Aran with his ghost hunting. Maybe even Tao has some talents in seeing ghost, or being some kind of magnet for them, which helps Aran. Something like this. Not too sure yet :D

So I like to think about the actual ghost activity and hunting adventures and how they go on hunts together. But also the slow burn and the slice of life moments and how they navigate all of this!

It cannot be helped. You convinced yourself habang inaayos ang face mask ngayong bumaba ka na sa jeep.

Lately, kumakalat na raw ang corona virus sa Pilipinas kaya hindi na advisable ang lumabas. Pero kailangan mong makipagkita sa mga groupmates mo this Saturday para sa final project niyo sa Purposive Communication.

Tumigil ka sa paglalakad nang nakita si Aran na may suot na face mask at ginamit na pamaypay ang face shield sa labas ng tindahan na katapat ng school. Kaagad kang nakilala ni Aran kahit na naka-face mask ka rin.

He raised his hand, waving as he took off his mask, "Pres!" Tawag niya sa 'yo.

Kumaway ka pabalik habang naglalakad ka papalapit sa kaniya, "Hi, Aran. Long time no see," you joked kahit na ang totoo ay ilang araw lang namang suspended ang classes.

Tumango si Aran, "Nga, eh. Pota kasi 'tong corona, basag trip. Ayan tuloy, wala tayong face to face."

"Nandiyan na ba iba nating members sa loob?" You asked.

"Oo, oo. Andito na si Atsumu at Suna," sabi ni Aran, "Pasok tayo dali."

You nodded and followed Aran. Binuksan niya ang pinto para sa inyong dalawa (naks, gentledog). Walang tao sa loob ng kainan bukod kay Atsumu at si Suna.

"Hi, Pres!" Suna greeted na hindi tinatanggal ang mata sa phone. Busy sa ML.

Kaagad na umangat ang tingin ni Atsumu nang narinig ang nickname mo. Namilog ang mga mata ni Atsumu at binaba niya ang facemask niya sa tuwa.

"Pres!" He gleefully said as he spread his arms, para bang he's about to hug you.

Napangiwi ka. If there's one thing you did not miss (aside from the President-duties), it's ang kakulitan at pagiging feeling close ni Atsumu...medyo.

Handa ka sana to push him away nang tumigil siya sa paglapit sa "yo.

"Joke lang. May corona, bawal hugs," he chirpped.

"Nakakahalata na ako, Pres, ah? Galawan mo, parang crush mo ako..." biro niya at may dinukot sa bulsa niya ang spray.

Ang kapal...you blurted in your mind.

"Kamay," he said as he pointed his lips at your hands na nakahawak sa bag mo.

Confused, you showed him his hands. Ayun naman pala, he sprayed the bottle spray on your palms. Kaagad mong nalaman kung ano 'yun.

"Alcohol para safe ka lagi," Atsumu cheekily said before keeping his alcohol spray ulit.

"Ayun, safe na Pres namin," he said before reaching for your shoulders to pull you into a hug.

"Akala ko ba walang hug kasi corona?" Aran asked in confusion as he watches Atsumu hug you tighter. Pinakyuhan lang siya ni Atsumu.

You exhaled heavily. Akala mo 'di ka na niya yayakapin talaga dahil sa corona virus.

Then vs Now

Back in 2016/2017 I used a lot of my old story for Aran and Tao for my iwaoi hip hop au. And then when I got back to Aran and Tao I used some things back from my iwaoi au now for my ocs again :D

Now the Aran and Tao story has widely changed again, so a lot is new and exciting!

Over the years I really love how my lines got more confident and how my understanding of colors got better!

Left the first page of my iwaoi hip hop au back in the days vs right a page of my mini pitch for the Aran and Tao story. Right before I fell into the iwaoi pit and started to draw a lot of fanart I had been thinking a lot about Aran and Tao. And once I became more and more involved in fandom I kinda forgot about Aran and Tao and used a lot of their story for Iwaoi, especially for my hip hop au. Now I'm back at Aran and Tao and I'm taking back what belonged to them :D But the story has also changed a lot and developed since then so it's completely different than the hip hop au, and it has evolved past my first mini pitch too. So there won't be very much hip hop in the story. But Aran is still a musician and rapper and there is a mood and theme that still fits.

It's just great to see how my art evolved too and how much more confident I've gotten.

Hello. Do you mind if I ask about your creative process when you created your OCs? I have a few of my own but I was wondering how you went about creating a story and background for them. I apologize if you have already answered this.

Hey hey, I don't mind at all!! I'm not too sure tough I can give a good answer :D My process has been one that took years. I wouldn't consider myself an ocs artist, in the sense that I have many ocs or many stories. I've been carrying Aran and Tao, and they have changed and grown with me over the years. But I can share two things I like to do 1: I like to start small and slowly grow from there. This applies to drawing my cluttered backgrounds but also to how I like to explore characters. Meaning, I start with the rough base. Character, male, how do they look like. And then I go from there. What do they like? And slowly add things. Does what they like apply to their life? Like hobby, or job? So what would they do? Do the people around them like the same thing or don't get it? Who are the people in their life? You see? Start something small and let it grow.

2: Put them in aus and different scenarios. Despite the fact that Aran and Tao went through several different main stories and settings already, I also have like 100 little aus and different settings for them. And I feel this helps so much. I know now what they like and do, but how would this be in another universe or in another situation? How would them liking this and that work and reflect their action in a different setting? This really helps to figure out a characters motivation and behavior.

This all said, I know that this is a long process. It's all progress. And a lot changed over the years. So as we know finally want to have a specific story for Aran and Tao we do have to settle on one universe and one story arch. And now I'm not doing it alone anymore. Suzie Samin joined me and created a story and we developed the characters together. Which brings me to another third point. 3: Talking with friends or others about your characters and tossing around ideas and playing out ideas helps a lot.

Lastly I think creating a character is a personal thing, and so is the process! And I think there is also a difference between just creating a little guy (gender neutral) to play around with, and draw in different scenes or write little snippets about, or to create a character for an actual story as a book or graphic novel. Not just in the time you have but also purpose. So there are many different ways.

For my case Aran and Tao started out as those funky little guys to just tag along with me and have fun with, and developed into something more serious. So I really find it hard to share my process, because it's been a long one, and it went through many different stages and purposes.

This now got way longer than I thought, and not sure it helps :D

Just have fun with your characters and don't stress too much about it! Be self indulgent and enjoy the process! Nothing is set in stone. You can always go back and change things! Or use them for another character some day.

Idk if you've done an ask like this before (if you did, sorry), but you said you wanted to talk about Tao and you can answer this for both of them if you want: Do you like to put them into AUs to explore their traits in different environments and what-if-scenarios? If so, which AU interests you the most and why?

I DO!! OHH I DO!! And if I had time I would draw them!! At least some of them!!

One big playground is the actual universe even. Because there are still so many alternative scenarios for the same universe and I love to play with those!! I have so many different versions and variants for this! I love to play with the idea of what if they discover their sexuality and feelings later? What if they break up because they got together too young and now figuring out things, and then find each other again in their late 20s and try again. What if they had different jobs or things worked our differently? I love all those scnearios!

One actual alternative universe I love to play with is their origin universe. I drew them the first time when I was 14 and they were part of a fantasy world, inspired by lord of the rings. Like this kind of medieval fantasy world. And I still like to think about this and have them back in this universe with all the possibilities. And even within this universe I have different alternatives and scenarios and not one strict story plot.

Another fun au is the Fishermen Au, where Aran is a ship captain of a small crew and Tao who is on the run end sup there as a hire and things develop from there :D

Then I like to throw them in a Ghost Hunter Au, which to be fair takes a lot from a former iwaoi au I had with @bluesailsandcalicotails It's just such a fun story and works so well for Aran and Tao too so I like to play with it.

I wish I could explore those more, as in actual drawing them and sharing them online and get people invested! I really miss fandom and this kind of exitement and sharing but I'm in such an Oc brainrot and it can get lonely! So thank you so much for asking!! If you want to know more about the scenarios or universes I'm happy to share but I didn't want to let this answer get too long :D

Atmosphere - Don't Ever Fucking Question That And that's pretty on brand! Atmosphere is still my favorite group! And this song is connected to many memories. It has always been a big inspo song for my ocs Aran and Tao and when I used some of their old story for my iwaoi hip hop au it was a huge song for this au and the overall feeling of it. Also some personal memories I won't share here in detail :D But yes, good song! Many feelings! Very on brand!

have you ever considered a crossover of taran meeting iwaoi? how do you figure this would go?

I have indeed! But I thought about my hip hop au Iwaoi as those would def be closer to taran. For canon verse iwaoi it's a bit more tricky I feel. I'm not too sure there are many places where they would meet. Their lives feel so different. College could be a place though and then there would bond over sports. I can see especially Tao and Oikawa bonding over sports and giving it your all to make it. It's a huge theme for both of them. Tao would also be interested in Iwaizumi's athletic training and knowledge of bodies and exercise. He would really love those insights. Aran is harder to break and he is not very welcoming and open to new people and keeps walls open. I can see Iwaizumi's blunt and dry humor hitting right though! Aran would def admire Oikawa's hard work but I feel he would also be irritated by him :D

The journey of my ocs. I developed Aran/Tiuri when I was 13. Me and a friend were inspired by LotR and wanted to write a medieval fantasy story. We never wrote the book. With 14/15 I thought I could take the book idea and make it into a comic. My style was very anime then. Then I forgot about them. I drew a lot of realistic things in between and in late High School/after High School I picked them up again, now with a more realistic style. I kept drawing them and the realistic style got a bit more comic/anime again. Also their story changed. I pulled them from their medieval times into our modern days and made them Basketball players. Aran later became a rapper. I drew them up until early 2015, right before I got my first drawing tablet, joined tumblr and started to draw iwaoi. My ocs background story became my model for the Iwaoi Hip Hop Au and Aran was like an archetype for my Iwaizumi interpretation in the au.

Now I’m back to my ocs. Tiuri became Tao, changed up some things, developed their old Basketball/Rapper story and I hope that this time, I really can make a comic!

Okay, let’s see. Waahahah I never know where to start (/)//(/)

Here we have Aran and Tao as kids and Teenagers.They meet when they are about 10.Some things of the timeline still have to be adjusted so not everything I say now will stay that way. But it will be more like little change in age and such. The overall story and basis is there and stays!!

Aran moves to the USA when he is about 8 (this might change..maybe he will be 6-7?? But not too important for now) Since he is 10 he grows up at his uncles place. His uncle and wife have no kid, so Aran is like their kid now.But things are not always easy.It’s also about that time when he moves to his uncle that he meets Tao.Tao might be a year younger, cause maybe Aran with just having moved to the USA has to repeat a year. So they are in the same class, but with Aran being about ¾ to a year older…I gotta look into it.They meet at the local streetball court though, and not in class. It’s summer break and Aran has nothing to do and no friends and Tao is bored and looks to someone to play with. So he starts to talk to Aran and asks him he wants to play Basketball with him.And this becomes a routine and they meet almost daily. And becomes friends.After summer break they start in the same class. And their bond becomes even stronger.

In the middle of High School Tao moves away to play in another High School as he is aiming for a Basketball career and is really on a promising path. Aran stays behind and his Basketball career takes some rough hits. He doesn’t get into college later.Aran always loved music and during High School he really starts focusing more on it. So his dream is becoming a rapper.

Tao and Aran meet again when they are 20/21? Tao is in College and transfers to a College team back in his hometown. He is still pursuing his career. Aran is working on his rapping and just tries to make a living, working on construction, hanging out with friends, playing Basketball at the local street court, drinking, smoking, and just being a young adult, trying to make a life and sense of his life.

Parts of their bg might remind you of my Hip Hop Au Iwaizumi. Fact is, I lend a lot of Aran’s bg story and the world building to Iwaoi and the Hip Hop Au.Aran is my oc since I’m 13-14, and he has gone through a lot of worlds and changed since then. I also renewed him again now, and he is not really pre Hip Hop Au Aran, but there are still a lot of the old story and world to this one.

WAhah I wanna talk more, but I’m not too sure how and what. (/)//(/) It’s always easier to answer concrete question. But I get that with you not knowing the characters yet, it’s hard to ask concrete questions. QWQ sorry
