Lost | Aram & Leck

Leck had destroyed it all: the only thing in Xia’s room that had been safe from his tirade had been the relics from the ancestors which remained safely untouched upon their alter. 

When he had received word that she could not be found anywhere, he punished the guards for their incompetence. Where could she have gone when it was their only task to keep her under their watchful eye at all times? How could they have lost her? When every inch of the palace and then the entire city had been searched twice over, and no trace of his betrothed had been found, Leck’s rage could not be contained. 

The guards were all dead now. They could have no further place in this world after so great an error. They’d all suffered for it. Leck had regretted killing them as quickly as he had (they did not deserve the sweet release of death!) but he had been brutal and once he had started, he could not stop. 

“Your Highness, the Emperor seeks an audience ... “

Leck turned, slowly to face his brother. His eyes, which moments ago had been filled with rage, did soften at the sight of Aram, but blood was dripping from his hands and mouth. 

He bowed low as Aram entered, “Brother,” He whispered, his voice quiet, calm, respectful - three things he normally was not. 

The calm that had washed over him by his brother’s presence was only a temporary one. He looked around the room, shaking his head in disbelief. “WHO COULD HAVE DONE THIS?” He screamed. “They will spend the rest of their days screaming, wishing they were dead.” He vowed. It had not occurred to him that Xia wanted to leave or that her escape, although she had had aid, had been her own doing. 

“They are all dead,” He said, speaking of the guards who were supposed to keep Xia safe. “They died screaming. The captain I made watch, and in the end, I ate him alive.”

Welcome to Arvor (Welcome to Hell) | Ressa & Torul

Torul Molec was a friend and, perhaps more importantly, an ally. In Arvor, Ressa was flanked with enemies on nearly every side. As a result, she knew that there would be no chance of her and Torul having a private audience; no chance to discuss anything important for fear of being overheard, but it was still a small comfort to know that he was, at least, on her side. 

It did no good to dwell on what could have been, but seeing him she couldn’t help but wonder what life would have been like, had they married before the Quasars swooped in to stop them. She didn’t love Torul and she doubted that he loved her, but they respected each other ... they trusted each other. And that would have been more than enough. Torul acted with his head and Ressa with her heart: she knew they would have worked well together; balanced each other. 

She thought they could have been happy. 

It could be so much worse, she reminded herself. She had only to look at her brother-in-law to be thankful that she had married Aram. 

“It is good to see you,” She said. He looked tired and worn since the last time she saw him. She suspected that he might have said the same of her. “Any news from Byssya?” Any news from Arantha? She wanted to ask. Any news from home?

Gods & Monsters | Aram + Leck

Like the rest of the palace, the Hall of the Ancestors was an impressive room: three story ceilings and walls lined with fourteen-foot tall statues of the Quasars of old. It was dimly lit and long shadows were cast across the floor: forever reminding those who entered of the power of their house. 

With a fist over his breast, Leck sank down into a low bow before the Emperor. Even privately, Leck always observed formal behavior in the company of his brother out of respect. The Quasars are kings amongst men, my son, Jaren had said, But your brother and I are gods. One day, Leck would join his ancestors in this very hall and become one himself, but until that day he and his brother could never be equals. 

“Brother,” He whispered hoarsely, straining to make the word. Everytime he spoke, he cursed Dex Carrow and said a silent prayer to their ancestors that he would find him and make him pay every moment for the rest of his long life. 

“I have dealt with the traitor,” He announced, lips curling into a smile. “In the end, he proclaimed the glory of House Quasar ... but he still had to pay for his sins. I peeled the skin from his bones and fed him to the dogs.”
