LEVI

Straight up, his eyebrows give me a small French feeling+his name. But i believe he has a bit of Chinese in him.

EREN

German or Turkish, it's the name "Eren", but his surname— idk! I just looked at his eyes and brows and thought 'Turkish' (especially since Carla has always given me a Turkish vibe- so I’d guess half n half?)

BERTHOLDT

He looks Middle Eastern, as an Iraqi, I'd say of Syrian descent.

REINER

Reiner looks 100% German- down to his name and last name, his damn eyes (those bright yellow eyes, I’ve seen em in real life before 😭) the hair the nose, all his features.

JEAN

French. Everyone says this because there's no doubt, the nose, the eyebrows, hair the way he does his goatee (actually that doesn't say much?)

ARMIN

He looks British, in real life he'd probably have really light watery blue eyes, blonde lashes and freckles. In fact season 1-3 Armin looks like he'd be called Gabriel.

ERWIN

because of his name, I'm guessing German. I'm not doubting that he's a full German. But British is a GREAT guess too.

ZEKE

German and Turkish, I think it's the beard. But Dina genuinely looks of Turkish descent. (Also because her name means “her faith” in Arabic, but it’s also a European name, im just not sure of its meaning or origin)

ITALIAN!!! I can't express how much I mean it when I say, he looks like he'd get mad at someone for the way they cook their pasta. And IDK he just looks like he'd have a New Jersey accent? Idk

PIECK

Persian. I can see her with a loose scarf on, it just looks right. (And the nose, her eyes and- I have a Persian friend that kinda resembles her)

Obviously Japanese, but you have to remember her father is white, so I'm guessing half German half Japanese.

what do u think abt the races of the aot characters (scouts and warriors) if it were to be set in a modern au for me personally i always headcanoned that porco and marcel are latinos maybe even connie too !! and that bertholdt is arab ! and while mikasa is still mixed japanese and white (i think) like in canon while reiner and armin could be german or turkish,, annie russian,, these are some of them ! what do u think ?

Hmm, that's a little complicated. I'll use the word nationalities and heritage since that's the terminology I'm more used to.

Latino Americans:

Sasha. I feel she would be from a country like Chile, maybe Brasil. Connie screams Puerto Rican or maybe Venezuelan. I've never put Porco and Marcel in this category but I can see them being from Argentina, maybe Chile or Central-South Brasil.

Non-latino Americans:

Canonically, Erwin is the personification of the US, but I also see him being Canadian. Levi would be Canadian but I think his parents are immigrants from the Poland-Germany area). Reiner would be from the US (I'm sorry, I love him but he screams man from Florida).

Europeans:

Armin and Eren could be German, although I see Armin being from Holland or Austria. Jean I'm stuck between Italian or French (more French, I believe) Colt, on the other hand could be very much a traditional Italian. Ymir could be classified as a Scandinavian because of her name, but I also see her being from Albania or Romania. Berthold and Historia give me Irish vibes.

Eurasians (a.k.a Russians):

Asians:

Mikasa is canonically mixed, I'd classify her as a Japanese and maybe German/English descendant.

Middle east:

Pieck and Hange are Turkish (I follow a Pieck and Hange Turkish cosplayer so maybe I'm biased bc they are gorgeous).

might write very short (maybe three to five parts) solo bert fic, set in modern au (like 2020-2021ish), where it’s in the middle of the pandemic - where COVID was actually taken seriously - and as we all know my beloved and his constant emotional turmoil, he is contemplating suicide due to a factor of many things (dead mom who died when he was a child and just now grieving that due to the isolation of the pandemic, having to take care of his sick father in the middle of a pandemic where people do not care, growing up poor (poverty is traumatizing), and internal guilt from how he is able to afford to live (something illegal, he gets into it with reiner and annie) and the whole fic, he’s in his junior year of high school entering his senior year (in the middle of a pandemic - literal hell on earth) and applying to college; i really feel like bertholdt faces the same burden a number of first generation children have - this whole shared generational trauma due to our homelands literally being destroyed and the mental turmoil that’s had on our parents and the assimilation into white American culture lol (bertholdt is arab in this fic im sorry it’s literally canon now literally isayama told me) and the whole fic is about whether he submits to his suicidal ideation or if he seeks freedom through college

what languages would each character natively speak? also, what languages would each of them learn/want to learn?

They’re all speaking the same language natively, like even if they were in our world, they’d still live in the same place to make them the persons they are, like I mean, I get the question of course, but I think it’s hard to say that Mikasa for example would natively speak Japanese, ‘just’ because she’s hinted (sort of) Japanese in the canonverse. She could still live anywhere in the world, because even in the canonverse migration and fleeing are a thing, so making out their native languages by their hinted nationalities is kinda meh, I guess. So I just go with what languages they would like to learn.
