Though its golden age ended long ago, Apotelesmatis was once one of the biggest necromantic cults on Sornieth. In a fragile new age of modern dragons establishing their cultures and identities, Apotelesmatis was at the forefront of the still-young art of necromancy, and many of the techniques pioneered by the mysterious Lord of Little Deaths have since become common practice. While the home base of the cult was in the Starfall Isles, and boasted the highest population, Apotelesmatis' wings stretched far wider in those days. Small clans of Apotelesmatis necromancers were scattered in nearly every Flight, recruiting and spreading the word of their Lord. The decisive battle that ended the cult's reign was only the finale to a long war, one that the Children of the Blood-Mark and the Gaoler Orders had been waging against these smaller branches for years. Apotelesmatis' memory lingered for hundreds of years, but in those early days, repositories of knowledge were scarce, and time erased many facts about this once-powerful force. In our modern day, information about the cult is rare and treasured. Much of what we know about it now is based on the work of archaeologists and historians piecing together the few artifacts left over from that ancient age. In fact, knowledge about Apotelesmatis is so thin on the ground that the location of its home base is still completely lost to time…

7 for ask game? ✌️
oh thank you for the ask!!!!
7. Is your clan religious? Is there a single dominating religion or belief system in your clan or is it relaxed about different faiths?
RARA AVIS - Rara Avis isn't really super spiritual, and they're pretty relaxed about worship as a whole. They celebrate all festivals, but go in a little harder with the Starfall Celebration, as it's an Arcane clan. But still generally pretty open to anything!
APOTELESMATIS - The entire MO of Apotelesmatis is that they hate the gods, so yeah, not super religious. However, Tiarnan is sort of the 'god' of the cult, and he wants to elevate himself to the same level, so... in a way, they worship him.
CHILDREN OF THE BLOOD-MARK - Naturally, the Children are extremely pious to the Plaguebringer, as they believe that they're tasked with a holy mission directly from her. They only celebrate the Riot of Rot, not any of the other festivals. Still, they're generally tolerant of other forms of worship (assuming they don't involve necromancy or the Shade) and don't have any ambitions to squash out different faiths.
THE TEMPLE OF STONE'S CREED - Even more pious than the Children, as Lady Verity is obsessed with the Earthshaker's task for the Obelisk... whatever that is. Their entire way of life is built around finding and following that task, no matter the cost, which is the weak point of the clan.

necromancy is super super real and, in many places, not very accepted! but it varies from flight to flight and even from clan to clan.
shade-worship is particularly associated with necromancy, so it's often frowned upon by the ice flight. one of my secondary clans, the Children of the Blood-Mark, HATE necromancy and the undead in every way because they believe their family was tasked by the plaguebringer to eradicate it from sornieth. obviously this causes problems with one of my other secondary clans, Apotelesmatis, which is an ancient necromantic cult.
flights most likely to engage in necromancy are nature, earth and arcane. flights least likely to engage in necromancy are plague and ice. (at least that's how i like to see it.)
was gonna do proper lore stuff but painbrain makes everything sound terrible and boring so I will. do that some other time.
instead I will pose a q to anyone reading on this fine WBW,
how does your lore feel about necromancy?
