Plebby question but where did you find the promo for the next ep of Harlots??

If you have Hulu, sneak peeks are always up there under Harlots > Extras. If you don’t have Hulu, I’m not sure. I haven’t been able to find it on YouTube, but maybe others know where to look?

Yeah, I just started reading Emma and am kind of freaked out by the age difference? Like, I should be used to age difference by now because really is a regency novel even a regency novel without marrying old male cousins?? But for some reason I just never pictured Mr Knightly as being that old...

I struggle with it, too. It’s not even as major as the age-difference between Marianne and Colonel Brandon, but then Marianne hasn’t grown up with the Colonel as an older male prone to lecturing her, so the dynamic established is different, in my view. I try to be happy for Emma and George Knightley in the end, really, and to a certain extent they do work well as a couple; but I kind of wish Emma had a chance to be out in the world and meet more people. As it is, she’s isolated to Highbury so Mr. Knightley has to perform the tasks of bringing Emma down from her over-inflated views of herself and her world, and providing a love interest, which I think a little wider experience of people in a much bigger pond than Highbury would give her.

@previous anon: there's a BIG difference between "people with uteruses are oppressed politically and this needs to be talked about" rhetoric and "uterus = womanhood/all women have ovaries and a uterus/making fun of people with penises" rhetoric. Talking about uterus related rights isn't what's excluding to trans people, it's saying being a woman is DEPENDANT on having a certain set of genitalia.

It's really nice to see Danny Sapani actually get a bit of acting to do on Harlots, and his character get a bit of a plot. I don't know if you watched Penny Dreadful when it was on but they really fucked him over, giving his character no backstory or personality and then killing him off.

I have indeed watched Penny Dreadful! A beloved favorite, despite its stumbles – one of which, yes, was underutilizing and then discarding Sembene, especially in the way that they did. That was honestly one of the saddest moments of the series for me. I didn’t realize Danny Sapani was in Harlots when I started it, and I may or may not have let slip a happy little gasp when I recognized him.

And William North is such a great role to play, imo. The more we see of him, the more he captivates me. The way he interacts with all three of his/Margaret’s kids is absolutely endearing (I was so happy when we learned that even Charlotte, the eldest by a fair margin, calls him “Pa”), and his relationship with Margaret … You can FEEL the layers of history between them. Deep, deep, deep with love, but also with disagreements over matters large and small. There’s just something I love about seeing a middle-aged couple who are shown dancing and walking arm-in-arm and being in bed together, AND shown arguing and calling each other on their bullshit, but never with the sense that one argument could possibly be enough to make them stop loving one another.

And I’m loving that, recently, we’ve been getting to see more of Will as an individual (rather than primarily as a partner or father). He’s always been shown to have a pretty strong moral compass, and seeing him connect with Harriet over their shared experiences and his empathy both for her and for her motherless children (which, of course, hits him hard, considering his backstory) is one of my favorite scenes thus far. “We must do what we can for Harriet.” Yes, Will!! And it’s even better, in a way, that his championing of Harriet becomes a point of contention between him and Margaret – not out of any romantic or sexual jealousy, as one might expect when another woman comes into the picture, but simply because Margaret’s got other financial concerns right now and her priorities are not the same as Will’s and/or Harriet’s.

Basically, YES, Will is a delight, and I can’t wait to learn even more about him, and I can’t get over how realistic and moving he and Margaret are together, and his friendship with Harriet warms my heart. Much praise to Danny Sapani for bringing Will to life so vividly.

Is there none yet?? Not even for everyone’s favorite oyster-eating ladies??? Damn. Then again, it’s early yet.

I probably won’t be first, because I am absolutely NOT known for my writing speed, but I am thoroughly tempted to contribute at some point nonetheless. God knows I’ve been tremendously preoccupied with thoughts of Haxby and how his bitter, sexually-repressed little brain must work, and if only I could think of an actual plot or scenario, I’d love to write something for him…

I’m not sure, about it being online at least! I know it was scheduled for April 17 on ITV, but I’ve been watching on Hulu, which doesn’t post new eps till Wednesdays. I looked around a bit, but I can’t tell whether it’s yet been posted to ITV Hub, Now TV, or anywhere else online … Anyone else know?
