At least, Aoyama is improved in this reboot. Just like the relationship with Ichigo.

When I feel sleepy I act like a silly drunk, I giggle a lot, say silly jokes and nonsense and have a definetly sleepy smile, its actually pretty funny! It doesn't happen to me always but when it does is so funny haha

Ichigo Momomiya

Ichigo is incredibly flustered when being in a relasionship, the simply fact of admiting it out loud make her blushy and start giggling, but at the same time her own excitment is what make her talk non stop about her precious, beautiful and cute partner!

Despite falling in love pretty quick her feelings are incredibly sincere and selfless, she loves you with intensity and care, she wants just the best for you and since you two are together she will try her best to be a good girlfriend

Despite wanting to spend as much time as posible at your side Ichigo tries to take things slowly and calmly, for your comfort and the sake of her heart, she doesn't think she could handle going quick, still she is incredibly caring and worries for you so if she gets to see that you are sleepy she will go to your side and ask if you are alright without a second thought

Ichigo wanted to make sure you had a good night of sleep, she was planning to ask you if something happened or even if you were overworking yourself when noticing that you were sleepy but before she could say anything you were already holding her with a sleepy smile and even snuggling her, wich just make her freeze

Ichigo has to take a moment to process what happened before trying to catch your attention to ask whats going on with an inmense blush, but at the end that end up being counterproductive because now that she has your attention now you are just telling her how cute she is and how much you love her!

It isn't until you are fully awake (or after taking a nap while cuddling her) that she would finally be able to have a proper conversation, explaining that whenever you are sleepy you can't just help but get clingy, Ichigo is unable to say anything aside that she understand while looking just a bit nervous but she is actually melting in the inside, in her mind she is screaming because of how cute she thinks it is but because how if this happens again it will be the end of her! (specially if it is in public)

Ichigo absolutely loves how clingy and affectionate you get with her when you are feeling sleepy but at the same time it makes her way too flustered! She doesn't know how she even stays alive when her heart goes a thousand per hour whenever your sleepy self clings onto her, ranting with a sleepy but happy voice how much you love her

Ichigo gets carried away by her excitment and for wanting to don't make you feel bad and end up telling you that its fine and that she doesn't mind at all before mentally cursing herself, it is true that she doesn't mind at all if you cling to her, you look absolutely adorable after all but she doesn't know how longer she will be able to handle this level of cuteness

Also, she doesn't mind it much but prefers if it doesn't happen when being in public, she doesn't want anyone else seeing you two like this, it will make her too embarrassed and flustered (besides, she is pretty sure that she will be teased because of it by her friends and she won't really be able to handle that neither)

Masaya Aoyama

For Aoyama to fall in love is not that easy since most of the time he is just trying to be what others want him to be, but when he does he does it fast and hard, it is pretty much love at first sight but he takes the time to get to know you better (making him just fall more and more in love)

Getting to be in a relationship with his crush means a lot to him, he wants to be loved just the way he is but at the same time he is incredibly invested on this relasionship, he is incredible loyal, protective and supportive, he is constantly looking after your well-being and trying to include you in his volunteer work to share who he is

If he notice that you are feeling sleepy he is quick to get to your side while thinking if is posible to let you have a nap, even if you two were in public he wouldn't mind at all letting you nap while he make sure to take care of you, still when you cling to his side and speak lovely words in a sleepy voice he is a bit shocked, this wasn't the reaction he expected but he isn't bothered in the slighest

Aoyama is a bit flustered by your sudden affectionate behaivor but he indulges on it a bit, he mainly just hum in agreement and gives positive answers by any comment you said, either to compliment him or tell him how much you love him, he doesn't say much aside from how he love you too because he is still focused on you and the fact that you are sleepy (and he is a bit lost in how adorable you are)

Even so, it isn't like he is ignoring your comments, it is actually something that will stuck in his mind for a while, poping in his mind once more when you either are naping or when you two have part ways, he will remember your words and will smile so foundly, feeling like the luckiest guy alive

Aoyama doesn’t mid at all that you cling onto him when you feel sleepy, actually he likes it, he is quite protective of you so you clinging on him when being in such vulnerable state make him feel comforted and a bit proud that you trust him that much, he even let you cling on him and keeps an arm around your shoulders in a protective manner

After some time he will get used to this and simply react instinctively to let you do what you wanted, just smiling at you whenever you cling to him already knowing that you are feeling sleepy (still, he will always try to find a way to let you take a nap in those moments, and if you cuddle him while being sleep that will just make him feel even more flustered, looking at you for a moment before hold you closer and wishing you sweet dreams)

He doesn't really mind if others see you two like this, he may feel a bit embarrassed but he can't say not to you, but if you cling onto someone else when you are feeling sleepy he will feel quite jealous, he tries to don't show it but will try really hard to come up with an excuse so you cling onto him and not someone else

Imagine if Aoyama being passionate about the environment was a misunderstanding. Maybe he did a project on endangered animals or something and did a super good job, not because he cared but because he's an exceptional student. And Ichigo heard about it and assumed he loved animals and nature. So she invited him to the endangered species exhibit, which in turn made him think SHE was the one who cared a ton about the environment. Then he discovered she was Mew Ichigo and was like, "Oh, shit, she's like REALLY serious." They both like each other, so they're tripping over themselves, trying to become environmentalists to impress the other. Aoyama starts reading books on recycling. When Ichigo acts like she's not all that knowledgable, Aoyama assumes it's a front to deflect suspicion of being a Mew Mew.

They both dedicate their lives to protecting the Earth when neither of them actually cared all that much to begin with. They never realize.

Do you also have the impression that Kisshu is much more childish and psychopathic in the 2022 reboot than in the 2002 anime ?

I want Aoyama to be improved, it's a very good thing, but not at the expense of Kisshu. He's my favorite character and I feel like the complexity has been toned down, while conversely almost all the characters are better than in the old version.

I hope Kisshu shows more of his humanity later and his love for Ichigo.

No because I remember he still dies for Ichigo in the end, and she cries for him. So if they amplify the psychopathic side and reduce the emotional side h24, it won't have the same effects at all ! I hope that Kisshu will therefore reveal more and more over the reboot.

And yes, I know that Kisshu has problematic aspects. The guy is the archetype of the tsundere, but that's no reason to remove the good aspects of the character, under the pretext of not wanting to romanticize a problematic character. Shit, Kisshu is entitled to all his emotions and complexity.

As much as I love OG Anime Masaya, he always felt too... perfect? You know what I meant? Great at sports, great at school, etc. But even though Manga Masaya is like that too, there was something else I liked about him and I just realized why:

Seriously, take one look at this boy:

Does this look like a boy intelligent enough to figure out that his girlfriend is a catgirl superhero? No. This is a beautiful dumbass of a boy, and he deserves his blissful ignorance.

Really, he is at his peak when the story allows his natural dense nature to appear.
