trying to decide which pattern to use for Kenna’s hammer bc like. listen I’m not in the mood to freehand today i just am not lmao. and the thing is: I like the second pattern better for a number of reasons, but! I only have weight 4 grey yarn!! and that hammer looks like it’s gonna be Huge next to her if I can’t size it down. I think I’m gonna try it out with carron’s simply soft since it’s like, the lightest weight 4 I’ve ever worked with and seems like it’ll play the most nice with a smaller hook size, and we’ll just. go from there. all the other pieces are made except for her little duck bill bc I can’t decide between white and this like tan yarn I have that would bring out the yellows in the yarn I used for the body :/

I really can't say enough good things about the expression work they did with rook in this scene, the way you can see it all dawn for them and all the little nuances along the way. I've had some trouble at points to get rye's more distinct features to play nice with whatever the facial animation setup is (still always tweaking. every day in every way we get closer and closer etc., getting the mouth to move just right is such a struggle for many scenes lol), but in this it really worked out. perfectly. yeah, that is exactly how he would emote and I would DIE for him. just. look at him. his hard tight little mouth like a child furiously holding back tears. the shifts between vulnerability and anger, the swell of fury rising through that angry option. the way you can see his eyes go wide at hearing the companion's voices and how he immediately realizes that joining them means leaving varric behind. the warring emotions at 'you're not alone' -- confusion, wanting to protest, knowing varric is right but maybe not quite how yet. so much of the arc I'd envisioned for Rye going in hinged on this scene, and I'm so glad that when I got there it worked out so well. yeah. that's how it happened.

(I also like that you can see how tough it is for varric to be faced with 'I can't do this alone' and having to let rook down, in a way. it's the one time he glances away from rook not contemplatively but reflexively. looking up at the path they're going to have to walk -- without him. having to send them off with nothing but words and hope and your faith in them, because you can't be there with them anymore. and he only lets himself look sad when rook turns their back to him for a moment. the parent feelings in that. ouch aou aough I'm. fhsdjkfhas. ow. considering how little time rook and (plausibly real) varric actually spend on screen together, they really pack the animation so full of information and meaning when you look closely.)

also a true blink and you miss it moment but uh

I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed Ghost Trick! It's one of my personal favourite games so I'm happy that more people will be able to check it out! But honestly, it is so geniusly written, it's insane.

Like one of my favourite things is there is actually loads of hints towards Sissel's true identity but because they don't dwell on them or they make jokes about them, they just go over your head on your first playthrough. Y'know... Stuff like how he can't read, or how he can see in the dark, or how he torments mice a lot... Stuff like that. It's so clever and I adore it.

Also, because this is one of my favourite twists, what was your reaction to learning Ray's identity?

Seriously playing this game blind was the best decision i’ve ever made bc i mostly play games AFTER i get spoilers bc i need to know if i would like it, but since literally everyone is THAT tight-lipped about spoilers i figured it would be Good.

Sometime after Yomiel’s introduction, i had a loose theory that he was Ray, but i had serious doubts bc well, it wouldn’t make sense. I do remember Lynne saying Ray had the voice of an old man so for a while i thought he would be a completely new character, but since it was late game, it’d be unlikely. SO YEAH. I COULDN’T HAVE EXPECTED THAT. I also kept wondering how Yomiel was Still Here since we were told ghosts only last for a day. Of course since we were told repeated times that Yomiel was powerful, i thought he was the exception. I think sometime in the final chapter when i started questioning who Ray was, i also started questioning if that part was a lie, because the whole incident is happening Today.

My favorite twist was the Sissel reveal. God that whole chapter was so so good. I’m gonna be honest as i was playing it, the few chapters before the finale was ““disappointing”” for me, for a lack of better word. Like for a while i didn’t like the ‘power from outer space’ thing and i completely didn’t see how they would reach a good conclusion.

BOY WAS I WRONG. The last chapter was a huge Holy Fucking Shit moment for me, and the way they told Yomiel and Sissel’s past was. Aough. EVERYTHING played a part in the whole story and almost every detail is relevant i’m still losing my mind over it.

I also thought for a while like, “revenge? THAT’S his only motive for this?” But then they managed to get his feelings across so well and like, i DO understand?? I fucking love Yomiel.

I’m very much in love with how much foreshadowing they threw in without dwelling on them, but also occasionally mentioned in a way that you just have a feeling that it’s relevant In Some Way.

I fucking love this game. I’m gonna be thinking about this for at least a few more days.

its a good question...!! HMMM

for soj, it's mostly because i like revolutionary stories! i looooove a good rebel group, a good "fighting the powers that be" story, and ESPECIALLY love the fact that the rebels in soj aren't demonized. or like, they are, but as propaganda, not as a genuine part of the narrative. when you meet datz in 6-3 and he starts tearing down the propaganda phoenix has been fed, it's just so nice..

especially that the dragons are shown to just be like, normal citizens, mostly. like when you hear someone talking about their family member being wrongly accused, and beh'leeb is reassuring them... it's so. </3 the sympathetic view is so appreciated. and with the current political climate of everything... augh. it's just refreshing. i love it...

but really, the reason why i love soj And the dragon family so much, is entirely because of datz 🥹🥹 soj is the best game because it has datz. simple! he's the perfect mix of goofy-crazy unhinged guy, and serious-earnest-loyal rebel guy, and his heart is so big and WAAHH DAAAATZ

datz loves that family so much, i had to love them too :'3 he talks so proudly about yuty and hypes up apollo all the time... it just gives the impression that he's the proud uncle who saw them both grow up into capable adults, and *sniffle*its just so cute. it's so cute!!!!

plus, thankfully, everyone involved is so fun to think about. nahyuta is such a regal and put-together character that it's almost addictive to think about him having a crazy uncle LMAO and apollo...! i don't care what everyone says, the soj backstory is so fun for apollo. he's SUCH a normal underwhelming guy that imagining him saying "oh right and i was raised in the himalayan mountains by criminals but it doesn't really matter--" is so funny...

*also i know it's set in, you know, the himalayan mountain range, but at least through the english translation, a lot of the vibe reminds me of appalachian america, and a lot of my family is from there so it just feels very cozy to me :3

AND THEN... OF COURSE... its the implied history... between him and dhurke. that has driven me crazy for 5 years. AUHG. AUAHGH. WOAHGH. i can talk about how soj has its merits and how cutie cutie the dragon family had to be, but really, it's all because of the Insane Devotion one must extrapolate datz having towards dhurke 😭BC HE WAS THERE. soj just loosely implied a backstory but gave just enough details that you can imagine anything. datz coming up with asinine stories to tell the kids before going to bed.. dhurke trying to homeschool his boys and then he's like, wait a second, we live in the mountains. and him relishing in that off-grid feeling, free from everything, just getting to see his kids run around safely.. :') he'll teach them, sure, but they can learn from all sorts of things. not just books. but then datz brings books! and toys! and they all go fishing together! and maybe dhurke suggests datz stays the night, you know, since it's already late...!! AAHHHH

I kinda honestly expected that to be the outcome because the way the two had seemed very hesitant and drawn-back at Lunar's confession just sounded like a rejection/friend-zone being wound up imo. That + I had kinda thought before that the show would probably pull a "well we're not rlly good with earth-y feelings so we don't feel that way abt u." yk?? which. partially it was.

BUT THEN LIKE. LUNAR,,, RLLY DIDN'T TAKE IT TOO WELL HUH. The fact the rain got harder and they started to sound so dull was what broke my heart the most like aough. honey. :(

And Gemini's words definitely gave a sort of "right person, wrong time" sort of feeling that is just like aoaaughghh my soul..... The fact it wasn't an outright "no we have none of that interest in you" is kinda reassuring to me tho!! DO YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS LINE.

Understanding the how but not the why, having the knowledge but not the experience, the inhuman detachment of it all. One small detail that betrays its whole state of being right now: An imitation.

And don't even get me started on the headcanons for how alternates work bc they're so FASCINATING

The way alternates just. Absorb? Things? To take on their form? One of the comments mentioned the alt wearing Cesar's corpse like a parasite and AOUGH

The way emotions have taste- Altsar's initial plan to understand pain just so it could make Mark's suffering that much better to savor- It's just the sheer embodiment of their nature as entities of consumption, born into a state of empty eternity

The way alternates have no personal stake in the war and are just doing what they do best because they can- The way alternates can't die and are just cast back into the void from whence they came, only delaying the inevitable-
