hiding in plain sight . (prologue)
pairing: ao'nung x omaticayan!reader
summary: your mother worked alongside miles quartitch in the sky people battle. as a dreamwalker, similar to grace, she got pregnant (occurrence unknown.) after miles' death, the sky people retreated. you grew up alone on pandora, afraid of what was outside of your make-shift sanctuary, until one day you go hunting and bump into some of the sullys.
word count: 1.3k
warnings: like 2 seconds of angst
as you frantically scrambled around your hut of trees and leaves, a ripped (and mostly fluff-less) pillow, and organization of old blankets you found from the abandoned pods, the day you had been dreading for a few weeks had finally came.
you were out of food.
of course, for any na'vi this is no big deal, all they have to do is go hunting. however, in your case it isn't exactly that easy. the other omaticayan do not know you exist. your mother, jasmine brooks, worked for miles quartitch, who (you quickly learned) wasn't the best person to know on pandora. during the sky people war, your mother as a dream walker was concieved. although the answers to how are still unknown, you were born with five fingers, five toes, and eyebrows, resembling human features more than na'vi. the sky people had no time to react, and with no clue how to deal with you, abandoned you.
luckily, you were just about 3 years old when they abandoned you and understood the basics of life-- walking, peeling fruits and such. you had to train yourself to hunt, to make your own loincloths, and other necessities. you never went hunting much, in fear you would be discovered. so, once every three months, you would wait until night to hunt until the sun rose, to have enough food for the next few months.
the last cycle was five months ago, thank eywa for that. however, you knew you were too lucky, as your next hunting spree would need to begin today. in the morning. you had no food for the rest of the day, and you didn't want to hold out, you were skinny and rationed enough. you grabbed your bow and your arrows and carefully snuck out of your hut, beginning your day-long hunt.
about an hour has passed, and it seemed to be going great so far. you had quite a bit of spartan and yovo fruits to get you through for a week, and you decided you'd get your months worth stash next week. on your way back, you had begun to dig into a yovo fruit, one of the smaller ones, when suddenly you heard murmurs.
"tuk, keep up!" you heard a boy shout.
your ears tilted up as you turned your head in the direction of the noise. you said nothing as you backed away, afraid running would bring too much attention your way.
"bro, why'd you bring her anyway?" you heard another boy say, a hint of annoyance in his voice.
something about the scene, instead of scaring you, enticed you. you inched closer to the voices, finally stopping behind a tree. you peeked between two branches like a window as you stared at the 4. it was a na'vi boy, braids pulled back into a ponytail, leading the group. quickly following behind was a na'vi girl, younger than the rest, swaying her tail as she leapt across the log following him. a taller girl, strolled behind casually, as the human boy caught your attention, with a breathing mask on.
"she's such a crybaby." the na'vi boy huffed, and the steps on the grass you once heard stopped. "she's all, 'i'm telling! you're not supposed to go to the battlefield. i'll tell mom if you don't let me come.'"
the youngest one, most likely who tuk is, stuck her tongue out at the na'vi boy. you smiled at her remark. the older girl blurted out a quick "don't pick at her," looking at him with disapproval.
they continued on their path, and you quickly ran to drop your fruit off and follow them. it looked like they were heading to the pods, and miles' old suit. you passed by thousands of times, breathing in your mothers old mask or sitting in her pod (unfortunately someone seven, eight feet tall cant lay in a five foot pod.) you followed the familiar path as the four began to speak again.
"come on," na'vi boy spoke again. as he climbed up to the crashed ships, the three of the other companions followed.
"oh, sick." the human boy called. you began to walk further out, uninterested in the chance of "any dead bodies up there," that tuk claims to want to see. you followed the older na'vi girl, as she walked further into the nature. she brushed her fingertips against the branches and lifted her arms to twirl with the leaves, before eventually laying down in the grass. you stepped closer to her, before freezing. you saw the many atokirina that flew ahead of you, and calmly circled themselves onto the girl.
you stared in awe as she lay asleep, the spirit seeds of eywa sitting on her, before they buzzed away. it was like she just got blessed? you had no clue what happened, and reached out to one of the atokirina to graze it-
"hey!" your head whipped up to the human boy. you quickly took off, brushing past him. "what were you doing? get back here!" he shouted, dashing after you before he shouted.
"lo'ak! tackle that girl, i think she hurt kiri!" you looked around, for any signs of lo'ak, the now name-assigned na'vi boy. after not seeing him, you took off for safety before you were pinned down by lo'ak.
"who are you?" he blurted out.
"get off me!" you protested, twisting and turning as you reached for your knife.
he quickly stopped you, but froze when he grabbed your hand. slowly, he put his hand up to yours. it took you a minute to realize what he was doing, until you looked. your hands matched up perfectly, but that isn't supposed to happen unless..
"are you a dreamwalker?" you both asked, and looked at each other in shock. "what do you mean are you a dreamwalker? stop copying me. why are you saying everything i say? stop it!"
the human boy interjected. "wait, what are you guys talking about, 'dreamwalker?'"
"she has five fingers."
the boy turned to look at you, before walking up and looking at her hands. "so, what- do we take her to dad?" "no way, he'll kill us if he knew we came this far."
"he'll kill us if we don't tell him the sky people are back."
you watched the two argue for a moment, before lo'ak finally sighed and gave in. he looked back at you. "sorry dreamwalker, gotta turn you in to big boss." he said before tapping his neck, as you caught sight of the little mic he had.
"but i'm not a dreamwalker."
the boys both froze and looked at you. "so, what are you?" the human boy said.
"well, my mother was. i'm just.. a freak." you said, wiggling your pinky.
lo'ak hesitated for a bit, looking at you. he had no clue whether to believe you or not. he grew up thinking he was a freak for his fifth finger, his eyebrows, his demon blood. now, this girl that laid before him could be like him. or, she could be what he's sworn to not. a sky person. a demon. he pressed his mic.
"devil dog, devil dog this is eagle eye, over." he spoke.
after a moment, they heard static and then a male voice spoke. "eagle eye, send your traffic." the male said. you stared off into the distance.
"we found this girl, she looks like an avatar, but she says shes not a dreamwalker. she has five fingers though, and we've never seen her before." you had begun to wriggle under his grasp, not wanting to be caught. "let me go!" you protested.
"where are you?" the male on the other line said. lo'ak looked at the now returned human boy, with kiri, and hesitated before answering. kiri mouthed a snarky remark to lo'ak that you couldn't hear, but it made lo'ak wince.
"oh. we're.. we're um.. attheoldshack." he said quickly.
"who's we? who's with you?"
"me, kiri, spider... tuk."
you heard a faint gasp in the speaker on his neck, and looked over at tuk as she said to kiri, "is dad coming for us?"
"dad's coming for lo'ak's ass, definitely." lo'ak hit kiri on the shoulder, as he continued to lean on you with his knee on your back, one hand pinning your wrists together.
this just acts as a prologue for a series i have coming, i figured i should get practice writing in!

// Surprising Tactics Pt.1 //
> Aonung x Omaticayan!Reader < Part 2
> It was no secret Aonung enjoyed screwing with the Sully kids, mainly Kiri and Lo’ak. But what happens when he finally gets to bear witness the Sully’s eldest daughter (Fem reader, use of (y/n), slight suggestive, enemies to lovers) <
Being the eldest daughter to the Sully’s was already stressful enough in your own land. Among strangers was even worse, especially when one of said strangers cannot seem to let up on your siblings.
You had watched for long enough, witnessing this boy torment your sister had already put you in a foul mood. Kiri is strong, she can hold her own and you knew that. But these were unfamiliar people, you did not yet know how far they would take it when challenged, even with younger children present. Thus, began your power stride over towards their commotion, Tuk’s hand in a solid grip.
However, when you saw Lo’ak head over to her defense you knew things would spark into a fight, maybe even a brawl if the boy’s friends truly were as solid as they acted. You picked up your baby sister and quickened your pacing.
When you had gotten closer, you started to pick up what words were being shared, none of them good.
“Leave us alone!” Kiri’s voice rang out, her eyes meeting yours as you finally reached her side. Mainly filled with anger, but also concern for her brother, currently chest to chest with the lean boy.
“What is this?” Your voice rang out. Lo’ak’s head slightly turned, addressing you but refusing to take his eyes off the opponent. Now that you were closer the situation seemed more clear. Kiri standing off to the side, Lo’ak readily defending himself and his family, and the boy opposing him not seeing a threat at all in your brother.
“(Y/n)! It’s nothing, just a few assholes trying to act tough,” Lo’ak puffed out his chest attempting to seem taller, “really it’s nothing to worry about.” Then, right as his small statement was finished, you witnessed his legs get kicked out from under himself.
Everything was moving fast, next thing you noticed was a gaggle of movement, each boy punching or pulling on something once they got dragged into the fray. Various yells, both from the fight and sidelines when you finally had enough.
After glancing towards your sister insisting she stay with Tuk, you jumped into the madness. Hair pulled, ears grabbed, tails dragged: eventually you had reached your target. Your brothers main rival.
You hated to say it but he wasn’t horrible to look at. Acted like an absolute ass, but he was pleasing on the eyes.
“Ey, are you gonna swing or just stare all day?” His snide comment quickly pulling you out of those thoughts. Looking up, his cocky grin on full display, the fighting pushed back into your brain as you spontaneously charged and tackled his torso.
A grunt of surprise left his lips as all of your weight slammed his back to the ground, tumbling all over the sand you were both determined to pin the other, no matter the stakes or tactics needed.
That’s when the thought came to your mind, right as you found yourself trapped underneath his broader frame. This was the perfect plan, might cost you a bit of pride, but if it got him down for the count it was worth it.
“Awe.. I’d actually thought you were pretty cute before.” Your hand leaned up, slightly grazing his neck, slowly dragging down to his shoulder and then way. “Guess i’ll have to find a cuter boy then.” A light giggle sealed the deal as you saw his pale teal darken into a more cyan shade.
This was your moment, quickly flipping his weight under you, enjoying the shock and regret crossing his face. You could ignore the light burn in your own cheeks as long as you could best him in this skirmish.
“Don’t let yourself get blindsided, skxawng.” Anger engrossed his features, his hands reaching to grab your legs and flip you back over.
“Oi! Leave them alone!” Neteyam’s growl flooded your mind, and you quickly stood from your position turning to face him. The tone was definitely not playful, his meaningful steps proved the same as he grabbed your upper arm to drag you back from the other boy.
“You stay away from them, you hear me?” His hiss posing finality, your siblings trickling away from the scene. You and Neteyam following in the back to make sure no other instances arouse from hashed words.
“Neteyam?” You nudged his arm, watching as his eyes gradually turned to yours. He was cautious of letting them out of his close watch, especially Lo’ak.
“Yes?” The question clear in his voice, this was a rare occurrence as it was typically him questioning you.
“That boy,” His shoulders tensed in mention of the young man, “What is his name?” The grey cloud forming in his eyes quickly dissipated at the unexpected inquiry.
“Have you not spoken to him yet? Well, yet as in before today?” You shook your head. You hadn’t been available for talking since reaching these lands, your mind infinitely curious about the natural and geographical knowledge surrounding it. Easy to say, you’d been out and exploring since arrival.
“Ah,” Neteyam’s mouth formed into an easy smile, he probably guessed what really you’d been doing, finally understanding why you’d questioned him on who your new swimming teachers were. “His name is Aonung, word of advice major asshole, so stay away from him unless it’s during swimming lessons okay?” The worry leaked through his words.
“Mmhmm!” You enthusiastically confirmed you’d abide his request, watching him continue walking to keep up with your siblings as you slowed to fall behind.
Turning around for a moment, you could still see the boy faintly in the distance, his friends bombarding him with something if the playful shoves were anything to go by.
“Aonung..”
This will be an interesting learning experience.

Neteyam
Neyetam x Reader
SPOILERS FOR AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER
Imagine you were like an older sister to Tsireya and had been present when they had arrived.
You made your way behind Tsireya and looked over the family in wonder. They were a darker shade and slimmer than your people. Your Tshaík walked around them each and pointed these as well as the fact that they were half breeds. You stepped a little bit closer to see and unintentionally caught the attention of a certain Omaticayan.
“Oooh looky looky, y/n.” Rotxo nudged your shoulder, while you were confused at his teasing. Tsireya nodded in the direction of the eldest son. Who looked away as soon as you looked his way.
“I am not the only one, Tsireya.” You nudge her to their youngest boy, and she smiles softly at him. When the meeting was over, Tsireya and her brothers were to teach the Omaticayans how to ‘swim’ in a sense.
“I must go but I will see you later.” You relay to Tsireya as she leads them to their place of stay. You ventured to finish you daily duties and time seemed to slip by.
The next time you saw them was when the second son stood up to Aonung, Rotxo, and their friends. You came up behind them amused as the eldest brother joined in as well.
“Boys…” You came up beside the girl and she tenses slightly before you greet her.
“Y/n”
“Kiri” You smile and she reciprocates it slightly, before turning back to the fighting. Having enough you casually walk up to Rotxo and clip his ear and then do the same to Aonung.
“Aahh ow!”
“Ow ow ow!”
“Enough, all of you!” You let them go and send a stern glare to their little friends as they go to continue. Knowing better, they storm off leaving you with Kiri and her brothers.
“Are you alright?” Gesturing to the younger ones head and he nods before asking the same to the older one.
“Yes, thank you. I am Neteyam and this is my brother Lo’ak.”
“Y/n, a friend of Tsireya. I would ask how has staying here been but I think I have my answer.” He nods chuckling, unknowingly Kiri and Lo‘ak send each other knowing looks and discreetly begin to walk away.
“It’s been alright, not really surprising really. I would be apprehensive as well for new comers.”
“They’re just trying to show off their pride, you get used to it eventually. How have the lessons been?”
“It was rough at the start but I think we’re slowly getting it.” You nod happy that they are at least trying to adapt.
“That is good. If you would like maybe I could help-”
“Neteyam! Dads calling us.” Lo‘ak calls interrupting your question.
“Oh duty calls. I guess I’ll see you around then.”
“Yeah, yeah I-I’ll a see you around, definitely.” You smile and pass him not knowing that his gaze followed you until you were no longer visible and even then his brother had to snap him out of it.
“Y-yeah, I-I’ll see y-you around.” Lo’ak teased causing Neteyam to put him in a head lock playfully.
“Shut up”

Read Below the Cut:
Being a hunter provided you with so much purpose. You provided food, safety, pelts, strength and everything in-between to your clan. And in turn they provided you with love and support. You had felt this way since you were eighteen and finished the rites of the hunter, since you technically became an Omaticayan woman.
Being a spoter in the war party provided you so much more. You felt adrenaline, you felt responsible for all your brothers and sisters in the fight. You felt like you were personally making a difference against the enemy.
And besides, by taking this life path you were able to meet your best friend.
“Neteyam!” You squealed as he picked you up, throwing you over his shoulder, spinning you both around. Despite your squealing and protests he did not put you down, until he threw you onto the plush moss bed of your secret hideout.
A glen a few clicks away from high camp, nestled between caves and vines in an adjacent, floating mountain. It had been a secret refuge for the two of you growing up. A place where you could come and get away from it all, simply be best friends alone.
You laid there, looking up at the glow worms that littered the roof of the cave. Neteyam by your side, this is how it always was and probably would always will be. You don’t know what would come between you and Neteyam. Potentially his mate, you thought. Though you found posessiveness to be lame, especially between friends. That’s all you were, and if a female respected Neteyam she would show the same respect to you too, no?
“What’s cooking in that pretty little head of yours?” Neteyam asked, bumping your arm with his own.
“Nothing really, just life.” You sighed, placing your hands behind your head and crossing your ankles over eachother. “Do you think I should start trying to court someone or just let it happen naturally?” You asked.
Neteyam rolled his eyes. You were so fucking dense sometimes it hurt. He loved you, always has, always will. He often felt like you were the only person who saw him, really saw him. And yet at the same time, you didn’t. How oblivious you were to Neteyam’s crush was astronomical. He constantly called you beautiful, highlighted your intelligence and talents. The boy couldn’t go longer than ten minutes without skin to skin contact for Eywa’s sake. Out of his twenty-one-years of life, he’s sworn that he has loved you for nineteen.
And you were none the wiser.
“Well, who would you court?” Neteyam asked, trying to remain calm and steady, but everytime the two of you toe this topic he wanted to rip his own brain-stem out and have Lo’ak stomp on it.
“Yeah, good point.” You sighed, frustrated. You didn’t think you were ugly or untalented. You had no idea why the males in your clan showed no real interest in you. You turned your head, your best friend looked grumpy. Neteyam had his plush lips downturned, face willed into a scowl. You pushed him in the arm, he smiled gently. “Maybe I should just court you, huh.” Neteyam laughed in response, shaking his head.
“Maybe you should.”
You didn’t bring it up after that, sensing that Neteyam was obviously uncomfortable thinking on his future. You couldn’t blame him being the eldest son of Toruk Macto is a life of insurmountable pressure.
Instead, you enjoyed Neteyam’s presence. He always calmed you, provided you with such comfort and solitude. Your best friend, your partner in crime (although Neteyam was often the one pulling you out of the crimes). The two of you had always, always been attached at the hip and you did not want to sever that relationship. Not for any girl.
“C’mere,” Neteyam said, opening his strong arms, gesturing for you to take your usual position- your head on his warm chest, his arms holding you close, tails intertwined, legs following suit. You felt like home in between his muscle and sinew. “Spend time with me, my lovely girl.”
The two of you laid there for hours, but as the night grew darker you knew time was running out, you had to get home, you had to sleep, so that you could wake up and do it all again tomorrow.
You went home, he went to his. And you could not help but to think about who Neteyam would court, who Neteyam would mate with, who Neteyam’s Tsahik would be. As you settled in for bed, willing for sleep you could not help but to feel uncomfortable, too.
Today was a training day, you and Neteyam were helping younger hunters master some archery. And you had no idea what was wrong with you. Your eyes would not stop finding Neteyam. His eyes, his smile, his strong back, broad shoulders.
You shook your head, as if to get the thoughts out, refocusing on the boy in front of you.
“Tighter, hold it tighter, do not be afraid.” You said, adjusting his grip on the bow. The teen, Ayue, sighs, dropping the stance entirely.
“I am scared, (y/n), I’m never going to do it right and I’m never going to pass trials.” He sounded so genuinely defeated and your heart hurted for him. You remember admitting the same thing to Neteyam years ago. And you remembered fondly how he had helped you.
“Well, let’s pick a new target.” You said, smiling, hoping to help the boy refocus.
“I did it Neteyam!” Lilä, the young female hunter that Neteyam had been helping successfully got three bullseyes in a row.
Neteyam smiled at her enthusiasm, but he knew he had to be careful with the girl. She had a crush on him, which he could understand. Not because he was handsome or anything like that, Neteyam did not like to think of himself like that. He just recognised that it’s so easy to like people that are nice to you, especially if they’re older and have some kind of status. Being Jake Sully’s son had its moments. But Neteyam also knew that Lilä was not as cautious of the boundaries that existed between them. He tried his best to remind her that he was her teacher, nothing more. But when she ran her hand up and down Neteyam’s arm he knew he had failed.
You and Ayue looked around the archery field, trying to find something new the boy could hit. Your own bow and arrow ready to shoot with him.
“There,” Ayue said softly, taking aim. “That little gap in Lilä’s target.”
You looked to where the boy had said, indeed noticing the little gap between arrows in her target. But that was not what you were aiming at, yourself.
Lilä had her hand running up and down Neteyam’s muscular arm, fiddling with his armband. She was sixteen. Why were you jealous of a child? It was not that, that sent you over, rather, it was Neteyam’s uncomfortable eyes, his tense posture. He did not want to be touched. Furthermore, you did not want to watch another touch him.
You let the arrow fly.
Lilä screamed, jumping back from Neteyam. He stood, glued to the spot. Staring at the arrow buried in the ground at his feet. Absolute inches away from where Lilä’s feet had been. The purple feathers with mottled yellow gave you away.
He looked up, found your striking eyes from across the field. You were tense, but silent like an assassin.
“Neteyam do something!” The teenage girl squawked at him, rapidly gesturing between herself, the arrow and the love of his life across the field. “She could have killed me!”
Neteyam laughed, shaking his head.
“Trust me, if she wanted to kill you, she wouldn’t have missed.” He smiled at you, sending a small wave. You returned the gesture, but Neteyam did not miss the glare you sent his pupil.
Something like hope grew in his heart. While something strange, that you could not name bloomed in your own.
“So,” Lo’ak started at dinner. You sat between him and his brother, his two sisters and parents across from you. “Why did you nearly kill Lil-”
You groaned, rolling your eyes and cutting him off. “Do not mention her name to me, I’ll be sick.”
“Woah, woah, woah, what’s this about nearly killing someone?” Jake questioned, smirking. He liked to treat you like one of his own girls, teasing included.
“Forget it, Sir, it was not like that.” You said piling more food onto your wooden disk.
Lo’ak scoffed at you, shaking his head.
“Lilä said that (y/n) almost shot her today during training.” Kiri pipped up. You glared at the girl, knowing that she was not your ally tonight. Jake laughed, and you noticed Neytiri graced a small smile at the sound. You let your mind briefly wander, did you make Neteyam smile like that?
“Almost? Doesn’t sound like you kid, you don’t miss.” Your Olo’eyktan pushed the conversation along, and you could not help but blush at being the centre of attention. You did not enjoy the spotlight, despite your actions today.
But before you could answer, Neteyam spoke:
“Lilä was being inappropriate towards me during training today, I did not know how to quickly shut down the situation. I was quite grateful (y/n) reacted when she did.” Neteyam shot you a quick smile, and you felt it again, that strange blooming in you chest. “Besides, it was an impressive shot, Love.” Neteyam said, holding your eyeline.
“Good girl.” Neytiri said, reaching out to pat you on the thigh afew times, before going back to attending little Tuk.
You smiled, relieved that you were not in trouble. Though you knew the chances of that were going to be low anyway.
You felt uncomfortable, as all the Sully’s shared a similar look with one another, with Neteyam. You felt left out on an inside joke. Or worse, like you were at the end of one.
You swallowed the feeling down, with your food and decided not to dwell on it. Rather, you listened to Tuk recount the Na’vi folk-story she heard during her lessons today.
You laid on your back, the moss of your spot squelching beneath your shoulder blades. Waiting for Neteyam was rare, as he was always prompt but Jake requested a word with his eldest after dinner, so you made yourself scarce.
What was this uncomfortable feeling that you could not shake? You though back on the last twenty-four hours.
And suddenly, it clicked.
“Pretty little head of yours”
“Maybe I should just court you, huh?”
“Maybe you should.”
“My lovely girl”
How Lilä had touched him. How you had felt when she had done so.
“It was an impressive shot, Love.”
“Oh fucking shit.” You said aloud, pulling your legs to your chest, smooshing your hands into your face.
You went back further in time in your catacombs of memory: Every smile, every touch, every flower, every gift, every soft word spoken, every big event, every mundane day everything.
It was all Neteyam.
“Oh fuck me!” You cursed out into the glen, hearing your own voice echo around the walls of the chamber-like cutaway.
“When and where my sweet girl?” Neteyam chuckled as he entered your spot.
You sprung to you feet. You were uncomfortable, you were overwhelmed. Uncomfortable, uncomfortable, uncomfortable.
“No!” You barked, pointing at him. Neteyam raised his arms in mock surrender. He was confused, but always let you call the shots. “No! You do not get to say that to me.” Your voice wavered, your eyes filling with tears. You didn’t know why, you didn’t know what you felt or what was going on. He had been teasing you. And that was the secret joke they had shared, he had been teasing you for years and the whole family was in on it.
Neteyam saw your eyes brimming with unshead tears and he felt rage, who had hurt you? He made a move towards you, gripping your shoulders, pinning you to the spot.
“My love, what is the matter?” He asked softly, after he confirmed that you had no external injuries.
“Do not call me that, Neteyam.” You couldn’t bear to look at him, you looked at the moss under your feet, wishing it would open up and swallow you.
Neteyam felt his heart sink. You had never, ever told him off for the pet names. He was certain you didn’t even register them most of the time. You were just too oblivious.
That obliviousness was obviously gone.
“(y/n)”, Neteyam spoke softly, but his voice was commanding, full of purpose. It was how he talked to his students. You refused to look at him. Grabbing your chin he coaxed you to look at him, look at him in his beautiful eyes and you felt your knees go weak. “Can you explain to me what is upsetting you?” What is upsetting you, my beautiful girl? Died in his throat.
“What is upsetting me is that you have teased me, my whole life, with your pet names, and you do not actually love me or want me, at all!” You could not help but sob as Neteyam held you still.
He felt like his stomach swallowed his heart, the acid burning it away. You were so wrong. So, so wrong. How could you even think that? Think that of him?
“You’re always so oblivious, aren’t you?” He asked. His hand remaining firm on your chin. “I have tried to make it obvious to you our entire lives, I have tried to make it obvious how much I love you, how much I want you.”
You felt shame and stupidity burn across your face like a brand.
“Honey, I thought you made your reciprocative feelings obvious today,” His hands moved from your shoulder and chin respectively, finding their usual home on your cheeks. “I thought you made it really, really obvious when you nearly killed my sixteen-year-old student out of jealousy.”
You giggled at him, shaking your head at how stupid the whole thing sounded aloud. He always knew what to fucking say. You wish you could hate him for it, but all you do is resent yourself. You had time to make it right.
“My beautiful Neteyam,” You bought your lips closer to his own, a hairsbreadth apart. “I am so sorry for not realising your love sooner, we have wasted so much time because I’m so fucking dense.”
You kissed him, and that uncomfortable feeling left. It was right, everything was right and normal and as it was supposed to be.
It was the best moment of Neteyam’s young life.
“We will have time in the rest of this life and the next.” He whispered against your lips.

How could he have been so stupid, stupid enough to wonder off. Normally he’d never do something like this, especially not while a celebration was happening. He couldn’t help himself he had to get away even for a little while, but wondering into an unknown part of the village was definitely not on the agenda.
He had been knocked unconscious; he could only tell by the slight throbbing in the back of his head. There’s no way this tiny human female could have dealt some heavy damage, enough damn he to know out a fully grown male na’vi.
You stared at the male, watching and waiting for him to wake up because you didn’t want to hurt him. No, definitely not you just wanted to experiment and find out everything you can about them. Him, everything about him.
He was so pretty to you, so attractive from his hair to facial features all the way to his body. You couldn’t help but wonder why lie underneath the loincloth, what could possibly be hiding. You’ve heard stories, of how the Metkayina men are different from the Omaticayan men in some regards, and your curiosity was only at its peak.
You walked around where you had his body bound to the bed, he fit perfectly even while being spread out. Your hands trailed over his arms then over his legs and thighs, but you never went higher than that. Never touched the spot you were so desperately trying to get yourself hands on. Not long after your innocent exploration of his body did the male begin to stir, his eyes dilated, breathing heavy, body so hot as if his rut was due to start.
He felt different, his mind hazy and clouded with only thoughts of fucking into your small human body senselessly. He let out a low growl as he tried and failed miserably to get out of the restraints, just one touch. One little taste of you was all he needed; all his body craved. Your eyes lit up at the disheveled state of the male, your body humming with excitement as your curiosity grew in more ways than one. You were allowed to finally give into your wants and that meant undoing his loincloth to finally get a peek, a taste, anything your body and mind could crave.
“You look so needy.” You whispered softly to him as you tossed his loincloth to the side, your eyes lit. It was very different from anything you had seen or experienced for that matter. Your eyebrows furrowed in interest, your eyes studying his slit before your fingers gently poked around at it. The action itself causing Aonung to grumble lowly from within his chest, his arms tugging on the restraints.
“What’s wrong tawtute? Go ahead, touch it.” His deep gravelly voice filled your eyes just as your eyes found him, your lips jutted out in a small pout, but you obeyed nonetheless, your slide your finger along the slit feeling it, watching it as it began to leak what you presumed to be precum. “That’s it, you want it?” He asked, his tone sounded like playful taunts as you took your time exploring the alien genitalia with a newfound aroused interest. Your touching and rubbing became more persistent as his groans and growls became deeper and louder.
Your eyes widened as his hard throbbing length unsheathed itself from his hiding spot, precum leaking heavily from the tip. The male in front of you was panting and writhing underneath your explorative touches.
Eventually you took the tip into your mouth wanting to taste him, the sweetness of his cum on your tongue had you moaning just as his hips bucked up. A loud groan fell from his lips as you took him in inch by inch until you couldn’t take anymore. “Oh fuck, your mouth.” He forced out, your small mouth around him caused him to throb.
You weren’t sure if he was close, but you refused to take any chances as you freed him from your mouth. Half of his cock was coated with a mixture of your saliva and his precum. You were so fascinated and so incredibly horny? You wanted to fill him buried deep inside you, wanted to know how full you’d feel with each inch of him. You could only ask yourself certain questions like “Would he rip you?” “Would you cum instantly?” “Would be immediately cum from how tight you’d be?”
You rid yourself of your clothes before climbing on top of his body, your dripping entrance placed over his chest for moment. You wanted to untie him, wanted to see how he’d react if he could touch you. He laid still watching you intently as you released him from his restraints, you barely had time to process anything until you felt the tip of his cock pushing past your slick folds and into your pussy.
Your loud moans drowned out the sounds of his groans, for a moment he took his time as he lowered you down. Loving the way your soft gummy walls clung greedily to his length, each little thrust inside had your breath catching in your throat until finally he was bottomed out. Your stomach bulging from just how deep he was.
You felt incredibly full, he felt so good inside you. Without much thought you started moving as best as you could without his help, your hands sliding down to grab ahold is his hands that were secured around your hips. “Fuh…“ you couldn’t even get the words out as your bouncing got slightly faster, his nails digging into your skin as he tried to hold himself back.
The pleasure was so overwhelming his mind was spinning and his little bits of control were slipping. “So tight, so fucking tight around me." He growled out. “Squeezing me so tightly, yet so wet for this dick little one.” Your tight cunt seemed to be squeezing the life from him, yet he wasn’t going to complain, his mind was foggy. All he wanted to do was use you and fill you, hell he wanted to breed your small body. Fill you to the brim with his kids.
With each thrust up into you his control wavered until it finally snapped, his hold on your hips becoming increasingly tightly. The pain of his grip added to your pleasure as he fucked into you roughly now, his eyes trained on the way your stomach bulged each time he filled you with his cock. His cock throbbed wildly at the sight, it only seemed to make his movements faster and harder. Your eyes rolled back as you felt your body convulse from the unexpected orgasm that was forced upon your body.
“That’s it little human, give it to me.” You cried out from the overwhelming orgasm, Aonung loved the way your already tight pussy grew tighter, squeezing him. Thrusting into you became harder for him but fuck he didn’t care he was gonna release his load any second. “Gonna give you my kids little human. Have your belly round with my baby.” He ground out as he thrusted up into you once last time, his orgasm rippled through his body as he filled you up as planned.
After a moment of you coming down from your high you tilted your head slightly to stare at the male, eyes wide as you realized what happened, yet you weren’t mad. “Can we do this more often?”

“Yo bro!” Lo’ak waved towards his older brother, Neteyam’s hair whipping around with his head as he turned to see what Lo’ak wanted.
“What?”
He was in the middle of rebraiding his hair in his family’s marui, something he would’ve asked you to do if he could even find you in the first place.
Lately, you’d been really absorbed with developing your hunting skills, something he respected and never thought twice about, until now.
“Did you and [Y/N] break up?”
“What would even make you think such a thing like that?” He completely abandoned his delicate ministrations through his hair, looking at his brother like he was insane. But deep down inside, he kinda wondered if you did too.
He rarely saw you these days, except for those fleeting moments where you two would wave at each other when passing by, and whenever he visited your tent you were never there. If he asked your friends they would constantly say you were out hunting, and he dropped his attempts at trying to find you.
But seriously, hunting for almost the whole day for almost 3 weeks? There had to be SOMETHING else you’d been doing.
“I never see you together anymore. N’ I heard from their friends there’s someone called Akxyeì in the picture. But if you did, there’s no shame in it bro, it’s all goo—”
Neteyam kicked him out of the tent.
He huffed as he finished braiding his hair, not bothering to give it a last look before stomping out in search of you. Who the hell was Akxyeì??
Deep in his chest came a mixture of doubts and emotions regarding your relationship— had he not been showing you how much he loved you? How come you had to hang out with some other stupid dude? What if it was even worse, what if you were beginning to lose your interest in him? He would die without you, honestly.
Or what if it was even worse, what if this Akxyeì character manipulated you into falling for him? He didn’t know whether what he was feeling was anger or sadness. But I’ll sum it up for you.
Envy.
Everyone stared at him as he stormed into the forest, the expression on his face taut and unreadable. The gossipping elders immediately got into their little groups, discussing what could possibly happen to the two of you in great interest.
Not mud nor rain stopped him from tracking you, crouching along the forest floor, sniffing through the strong smell of rain in order to pick up your scent. The moment he found it, he bit back a growl; an unfamiliar scent was there with you.
He placed his hand on his forehead, taking deep breaths before heading in the direction you were supposed to be, reaching what the omaticayans dubbed the ‘lovers lake.’ He frowned remembering the nickname.
Lo and behold, his love was crouched under a large leaf just near the opposite edge of the lake, a lovely smile on your face, like always, as you looked at the rain splashing in puddles on the dirt in front of you.
Just the sight of you made his heart soar. But his mood quickly plummeted back down once he saw a na’vi boy crouched down behind you, also laughing at the predicament you were both in.
He had half a mind to take his bow and shoot him in the crotch to ensure he wouldn’t ever be able to clone himself, but he had to bite back the urge. Instead, he resorted to letting out a heavy sigh.
Just then, you looked up, eyes meeting with his as he stood far across the lake. A pang of guilt ran down your body, but it wasn’t like you were doing anything wrong, right? So then why did your heart drop fifty feet into the ground?
Akxyeì’s laughter stopped once he saw the deathly stare Neteyam was giving him, which your boyfriend was satisfied with. But not satisfied enough.
He turned his back on you both, disappearing into the thin fog that was starting to cloud the forest.
“..I have to go.” you whispered to Akxyeì, before diving head first into the lake to catch up with Neteyam.
The only thing you thought about besides holding your breath was how angry Neteyam must’ve been with you. He totally misunderstood the situation, and it pained your heart to think of what he was thinking right now. You had to explain yourself as soon as possible.
You frantically searched through the camp, your heart racing with worry and fear. Light pitter patters of rain land on your face, causing you to wipe it every few seconds in order to be able to see. You called out Neteyam's name in every spot imaginable, even his own family’s marui, but he wasn’t there.
As you made your way from tent to tent, you couldn’t help but feel a sinking feeling of worry weighing down on your shoulders.
You checked the hunting groups, but Neteyam was nowhere to be seen. You asked the elders if they had seen him, but they claimed to not know anything.
You were drenched from head to toe from your swim earlier, and the wind didn’t make it any better, shivers threatening to stop your search. The nosy elders murmured harshly at the sight of you this way, according to them you always seemed so put together.
You finally make your way back to your own tent, hoping that maybe he might have gone there. Although it was unlikely, it was the only spot in camp you hadn’t checked. But as you pushed aside the flap, you were met with your empty home, no sign of your boyfriend anywhere.
Panic began to set in as you realised that he was truly gone. You sat down, fingers pressed to your lips as you took in a deep breath, thinking of all the possible places he could be.
He wasn’t anywhere in camp, so that would have to mean he was still out in the forest. But where? You couldn’t possibly—
Ah.
He might be at you guys' spot.
You hadn’t been there in what felt like years. It was where he asked to be your boyfriend. It was so silly of him; a smile crept up on your face as you hopped up through the trees, reminiscing the day.
You were both admiring the night sky together, counting the stars, and he suddenly whispered, “Can I be your boyfriend?”
Even now, he denies ever uttering those words, claiming it was a figment of your imagination, and that you heard what you wanted to hear. But you remembered vividly the way he nearly fell off the trunk of the tree when you said yes.
The grass underneath you turned into soft clumps of moss as you continued, the rain slowly stopping as eclipse took over the sky. Finally, you reached the two intertwining trees, standing underneath the archway.
You didn’t have time to look up before you heard his voice among the cricketing insects.
“[Y/N].” he said, his voice as low as a sigh, your ears flattening once you heard the utter distress from his throat.
You said nothing, instead climbing up the slanted tree, crouching and setting aside the leaves covering your view.
And there he was, in all his glory.
Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'itan.
His feet dangled over the edge of the tree trunk, his hands planted firmly at his sides. He was hunched over, staring blankly at the ground at which you stood before.
“Neteyam—” you were barely able to finish saying his name before he interrupted you.
“Did I do something?” he croaked out, his gaze fixed downwards.
“What?” you blinked. What was he saying?
“Of course not,” you said softly, sitting on a spot on the tree just inches from him, you looking directly at his crestfallen face.
A tear ran down his cheek, reflected by the lights of the stars in the night. He wiped it away quickly, now looking to his left, so that you were met with only the back of his head.
Your heart dropped at the sound of his sniffles. “Neteyam, Akxyeì is just a friend,” you started, trying to formulate the best way to try and explain the situation to him and then beg for his forgiveness.
“It’s not about that.” he sucked in a breath in attempt to calm himself down.
“Why have you been avoiding me?”
Your heart felt like it was splitting into two.
You’d constantly been reassuring yourself that you weren’t avoiding him, you were just hanging out with your own separate group of friends, but in truth you basically had been.
“I’m not avoiding you,” you paused, sighing as you faced the fact that you were going to have to be truly honest with him about your feelings now.
“I just…wanted to be seen.”
At those words, he turned towards you, eyes glistening with tears. “Wh…What do you mean by that?”
“With them, I feel like what I always wanted to be— A strong, brave warrior with talent. With them, I feel like I can just truly be myself, and I don’t have to hold back.”
He looked at you, beckoning you to go on.
Your eyes flickered down, unable to meet his eyes as you continued, “Sometimes when I’m out with you I feel like I have to keep up appearances. You’re the next olo’eyktan, the next leader for our people, and I feel like I’m always in your shadow.”
“I get comments from the elders like, “How is it dating the next in line for Olo’eyktan???”” you mocked their shrill voices with a face as you quoted their exact words, the corner of your boyfriend’s lips twitching up in amusement.
“So..I don’t know. When I finally was seen as a leader myself, with Akxyeì and the others, it felt like I was…free. Free from the expectations that other people put on me.” you bit your lip, imagining how selfish you must’ve sounded to him right now.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Neteyam part his lips slightly.
“..I never knew you felt that way,” he half whispered, looking down at his hand and yours, suddenly aching to intertwine your fingers together.
“It’s..not that I didn’t like being with you, you make me so happy,” you let a small smile appear on your face, “It’s just that it makes me feel worse about myself when people only care that I’m your partner. They don’t see me.”
“So…that’s why I’ve been hanging out with my other friends,” the air felt awkward after you finished, and you felt like you had to add on to your words so that the atmosphere didn’t feel so..empty.
“ I’m sorry I didn’t tell you anything before.”
“.....So I take it you’re still in love with me?”
You looked up at his totally unserious response, slightly baffled. He had a childishly wide grin on his face. The tears from earlier had already dried up, leaving no trace behind.
Your mouth was open in surprise of his lighthearted reaction. Had he even heard anything you just said?
“Just so you know, Akxyeì is totally not more attractive than me,” he pushed on, determined to see one thing and one thing only.
Your beautiful smile.
And his not-so-cunning ploy worked, as a little grin made its way up onto your face.
He placed his hand on top of yours, slightly gripping your fingers. “But in all seriousness, I’m sorry too.”
His mesmerising eyes were widened ever so slightly, as if he was trying to take in more of the sight of you.
“For what?” you mouthed, the volume of your words barely above a hum.
“For not noticing how you felt. I’m supposed to be good at gauging other people’s emotions–” he sighed, before you stopped him mid sentence with one of your fingers to his lips.
“That’s why I didn’t want to tell you anything. I was worried you’d feel even more pressured with having to worry about me too, besides everything else already going on,” you tilted your head downwards, glancing once more at the barely illuminated bark you sat on..
You wanted to tell him more, to explain further, but the doe look in his eyes as he gently took your finger off his mouth with his free hand told you he’d already understood everything.
He flipped your hand around, placing a soft kiss on your wrist, maintaining full eye contact with you as he did it. The motion sent butterflies raging frantically in your stomach, the thrill causing you to blush slightly.
“So. Tell me more about your friends.” he smirked, knowing the full extent of his charm and what it did to you.
You breathed out, nodding before sitting directly next to him, your hips touching his. You began to recite to him all the fun little adventures you had with your hunting group, and the stupid things Akxyeì would get himself into.
You couldn’t help but smirk a little bit whenever you felt Neteyam’s hand tighten its grip around yours whenever you mentioned the other boy.
“And then, one other time- Teyam?” you felt his head weigh on your shoulder. Was he…asleep?
A small pause followed as you stopped talking, and you just froze completely before narrowing your eyes.
“..You aren’t asleep, are you?” you rolled your eyes, feeling a chuckle vibrate on your shoulder from his throat.
You always knew how to read him, and he found it amusing that you were the only person he could never fool. It just added onto his everlasting appreciation for you.
You watched him as he pulled his head up off your shoulder, smiling as he looked at your face with such fondness that it made you feel weightless.
“I love you, [Y/N].”

Nights in Awa’atlu were sparkling and beautiful, filled with an aura that was missing in the forest. There was brightness that stretched for miles and miles, a pleasantly humid air that made each moment feel relaxing, almost like a break from the confines of the fear that etched so deep in the Omaticayan consciousness, after the humans returned. The sky was as clear as Neteyam only saw it on special evenings where he took his ikran to the top of the Hallelujah mountains and slept there, put to sleep by the blinking, beautiful lights that he knew from Norm were other planets, foreign and distant, but beautiful in their own way… just like you.
Neteyam was taken with you from the moment he spotted you in the crowd, as his family arrived on the now familiar island. He could barely believe his eyes, or his mind, that short-circuited a little taking your beauty in, transcendent and incandescent. He wasn’t one for outwardly declarations of love, or obnoxious displays of affection, so his approach was subtle and, to his dismay, was all in vain, as soon as, after settling in the village, he realised you were already promised to someone else, someone he didn’t particularly liked, and yet, this was a line he couldn’t justify crossing for nearly anything.
Sometimes, he felt like you reciprocated his feelings - you would look at him in a certain way, smile with a twinge of longing or want in your eyes, find ways to stay close to him or correct his form on the Tsurak, even when he feels like he’s mastered it. But it can’t be, and Neteyam knew his mind was playing tricks on him - cruel, unsavoury tricks, meant to torture him and wreck what little lucidity he felt he possessed whenever it came to you. You weren’t his - you couldn’t be. So Neteyam would have to find joy in the little moments, the glances and fleeting touches.
At least that’s what he thought.
It didn’t feel like that right now, hidden from sight in a mangrove tree, a place he normally liked to come and think, or be alone, or take a break from essentially being a parent to 3 children he didn’t help bring to life, a place that he was now stuck in and suddenly felt tainted, as he was watching events unfold that, if he was honest with himself, he’s pictured doing with you for a while now. Your back was neatly pressed against the bark of the tree, head pushed back to give Aonung access to your neck, that he was ruthlessly attacking, the purple bruises starting to appear visible even to him, looking down from an elevated tree branch. You seemed to enjoy it, though, your small, lewd moans echoing through the clearing until it hit his ears like a melodic choir, making blood travel instantly to his lower half.
“Fuck.” It was wrong, being here, looking at you like this, but what was his alternative? Jump from the tree, interrupting what was clearly a scene no one was supposed to be privy to, make it known he’s been there, lurking unintentionally? Absolutely not. It was wrong, but shit, watching you like this, free and uninhibited, picturing how much better he could be fucking you, how he’d eat you out until you’d be pushing his head away from your core with your hands, how you’d not put nearly the effort you could be into it because you secretly wanted more, how you’d curse and mewl as he entered you, stretching you out, over and over, until the shape of him was imprinted on you…
All these thoughts, swirling in his head, mixed with the images and sounds he’s only known in his mind’s eye until now, made the already tented tewng so tight it hurt, so he found relief in his hands, palming himself over his clothes until the pain dulled, but not as much as necessary. He was rock hard now, watching you as you shifted positions and pushed him until he fell to the ground, straddling his hips and grinding on him, allowing the pleasure to overcome your senses. Guess some things are better done yourself, especially if the company wasn’t… satisfactory, huh?
Your face looked so blissful, contracted in unadulterated pleasure, eyes shut tightly and eats pushed back flat against your head, your canines dug in your plush lips so deeply there was blood dripping down your chin and onto your azure chest. Your hands were desperately grabbing at your tits, twisting your nipples in between your fingers and the sight was so impossibly erotic, Neteyam couldn’t help himself anymore. It was so easy, easier than it’s ever been, getting out of his cloth, shuddering lightly when his length encountered the crisp night air. His hand fisted on his cock, pumping himself vigorously, the precum staining his fingers as it erupted from his tip. Looking at you, perverted and nefarious images behind his eyelids, of your pretty little mouth around his cock, he was shocked when he realised your eyes were open and staring at him, needy and desperate look hidden beneath the surface, the shock on your face quickly dissipating to unleash desire and hunger and smirking lips.
You continued grinding on the chief's son, your moans and mewls increasing with each second you were getting closer to release, your eyes locked onto Neteyam’s throbbing cock, desperate to find out how it would feel splitting you open, pumping you full on his cum until it spilled all around you and down your ass. You hoped he could hear you, read your lips - you needed him to hear this, you needed to moan it as he was rutting into you like an animal in heat, but this will have to do for now.
“Make me cum, pretty boy.”
You couldn’t even hear the whispers of the man beneath you, not as your mind was empty of everything but him, not as your orgasm hit you like a torrential storm in spring, ready to tarnish everything in its path. You came at the same time, moaning a breathy slur of his name that only you could recognise for what it was - for now. Tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that, Neteyam would learn to know every whimper coming out of your mouth for what it meant, and you’d learn his, as he fucked you dumb and you let him, as you rode him like your life depended on it, as you let him use you, your pussy, your mouth, your whole entire body.
When the high subsided and you gathered yourself, you heard Aonung speak as through a foggy, far-away echo.
“So… was that good for you?”
You suppressed a chuckle, eyes finally snapping from the tree and carefully avoiding his.
“Yeah… yeah, that was good for me.”

𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙒𝘼𝙔 𝙊𝙁 𝙒𝘼𝙏𝙀𝙍
Previous >> Next
Pairing: Ao’nung x omaticayan! fem!reader
Summary: Short
Warnings: mentions of blood, seizure, angst
Author’s note: Hii
Credits: For the whole plot idea I have for this fanfic I have to credit and thank @lorre-verie <3
Lorre finally broke the surface, gasping softly as the cool air filled her lungs. The sunlight danced on the water around her, and she blinked to adjust, wiping a few droplets from her brow. Her Ilu, Nami, gently turned her head towards her, as if sensing her awe. The others had already surfaced, their Ilus bobbing calmly in the stillness of the sacred cave.
- We are here! Tsireya called, her voice calm yet full of quiet excitement.
Lorre looked up and around her. Towering, floating rocks hovered overhead, connected by thick vines, while moss and other plants clung to their surfaces. The enormous arch of rock stretched above them.
- This is the Cave of the Ancestors Tsireya explained. - Our most sacred place.
Lo’ak let out a quiet breath beside her, shaking his head as he took in the scene. - This place is unreal. he muttered, more to himself than anyone else.
Neteyam, who was nearby, simply observed with a quiet expression, his gaze scanning the environment,.
Tuk, on the other hand, was already excitedly tugging at her Ilu’s reins, eager to get closer.
As Lorre shielded her eyes from the sun, she could feel the world shift slightly as the eclipse began. The light dimmed, casting the rocks and water in a soft glow, the edges of the floating boulders becoming illuminated by the fading sunlight.
- Eclipse is the best time to be here. Roxto noted, looking towards the horizon as the sky darkened further.
The entire cove seemed to hum with life as twilight descended. Bioluminescent plants and creatures slowly began to light up, their soft glow reflecting off the water. The air around them felt charged, alive in a way that Lorre hadn’t experienced since leaving the forest.
- This is it. Tsireya said, pointing downward. - The Spirit Tree.
Lorre glanced beneath the surface, her heart skipping as she saw the great tree’s glowing tendrils reaching up through the water. The branches seemed to sway with the current, their soft glow inviting them deeper.
The group quietly slipped off their Ilus, diving into the water and swimming toward the tree. Lorre felt Nami's gentle nudge at her back as if offering silent reassurance.
Aonung swam beside her, his movements controlled but silent, his presence close, though he said nothing. Lorre didn’t mind. She felt the steady beat of his strokes as they swam together, their focus on the glowing tree below.
Tuk paddled beside Kiri, her wide eyes locked on the glowing tendrils as they approached. Neteyam swam slightly ahead, casting protective glances back at them all, particularly at his younger sister. Lo’ak swam a bit further, his movements more faster as he flicked through the water.
As they reached the Spirit Tree, Tsireya gestured for them to connect their queues. Lorre’s hands moved instinctively to the back of her head, grabbing hold of her queue and reaching out to the softly swaying tendrils of the tree.
The moment her queue connected, warmth rushed through her, an undeniable comfort spreading through her limbs. The familiar, sacred connection with Eywa filled her senses.
Kiri, floating nearby, connected as well. Her eyes fluttered closed, she had longed for this connection since they left the forest.
Aonung remained close to Lorre, his presence a grounding force as they floated near the tree. He didn’t need to say anything—he rarely did in moments like these. Instead, his quiet proximity spoke louder than words.
Lorre’s eyes closed, and she allowed herself to relax, drifting into the vision Eywa had waiting for her. Despite the ache in her chest for her lost home, the forest, and the life she had left behind, she felt a profound sense of peace here.
Lorre no longer felt the weight of being underwater or the strain of holding her breath. Slowly, she opened her eyes and found herself standing in the heart of the forest. The towering trees loomed overhead, their thick trunks and broad canopies casting dappled shadows on the ground.
A bittersweet reminder of a life once filled with joy. It was a place she recognized too well, yet now it felt suffocating.
This was her old hiding spot, the refuge where she had sought solace for years. The vibrant greens around her felt dull, almost oppressive, weighed down by memories she couldn’t escape.
A sudden sound broke the stillness—a series of small, heartbreaking sobs coming from behind her.
Lorre turned slowly, her heart aching as she saw the source of the crying. There, on the moist grass, was a small Na’vi girl, trembling as she wept. The sight was painfully familiar:
It was her.
The little girl sat curled up, her tiny body shaking with each sob. She pressed her hands to her face, trying to muffle the sound, but the anguish poured out of her in choked breaths.
Lorre’s heart sank, a wave of sadness crashing over her. She remembered this moment—the day the humans had left her, just after Quaritch’s death, when the world had seemed to collapse around her.
Alone and abandoned, the small Na’vi felt utterly lost in the beauty of the forest. Lorre felt tears prick her own eyes, a profound sorrow swelling in her chest as she watched the younger version of herself cry.
Just then, a rustling sound drew her attention away from the child. Turning around, she gasped, her heart skipping a beat as she saw herself again-but older this time.
The older Lorre was on her knees, her breath coming in ragged, uneven gasps, each one more desperate than the last. It looked like she was struggling to breathe, her chest heaving as though the air had thickened and refused to fill her lungs.
The older version of herself clutched her side, fingers pressing against her ribs as if to hold herself together. Without warning, a violent, guttural cough ripped from her throat, the force bending her forward, doubling her over as she convulsed.
Lorre stared in shock as blood sprayed from her lips, dark and thick, staining her hands and dripping onto the ground beneath her.
The sound of that cough, the sight of the blood, struck Lorre like a physical blow.
Her throat tightened, and before she could stop it, a cough of her own erupted. It was harsh and sudden, forcing her to bend over, clutching at her own chest as she felt the sharp pain shoot through her ribs.
Her body mirrored the older Lorre's violent reaction as though they were connected by some invisible thread.
Each breath she tried to take felt like fire in her lungs, and with each cough, her throat burned, raw and painful. Blood soon filled her mouth, warm and metallic, mingling with the tears she hadn't even realized were streaming down her cheeks.
Her hands trembled as she wiped at her lips, only to see them stained red, just like the older version of herself who was still coughing violently nearby.
Lorre gasped for air, but every inhale sent a stabbing pain through her chest. The world around her seemed to darken, the towering trees of the forest warping, twisting in her peripheral vision.
Her knees buckled under the weight of it all, her palms pressed to the ground, sticky with blood and dirt. She could hardly focus, her mind clouded with the agony of each choking cough.
Then, with one final wrenching cough, everything around her dissolved. The forest blurred into darkness, the pain and suffocation pulling her away from the memory.
Suddenly, she resurfaced in the cove of the spirit tree, her heart pounding, her chest still tight with the phantom pain of the vision.
She was okay. But the panic lingered, her pulse racing as her wide eyes scanned the water around her.
Kiri.
Her gaze locked on her, thrashing violently in the water. Kiri's body contorted as if in the throes of an unseen force, her mouth open in a silent scream. Fear surged through Lorre, a cold dread that froze her in place for a moment. Others were already swimming frantically toward Kiri, pulling her away from the tree's glowing tendrils.
Their movements were rushed, desperate, as they disconnected her and brought her back to the surface.
Lorre swam furiously, pushing herself to keep pace with the others as they all broke through the surface of the water. Her breath came in ragged gasps, but her focus was on Kiri.
She watched as Neteyam quickly lifted his sister onto his Ilu, his face tight with fear. He wasted no time, pressing his mouth to hers in a desperate attempt to breathe life back into her.
Roxto hovered next to him, his voice shaky. - Is she breathing?! Tell me she's breathing!
- She’s having a seizure! Neteyam’s panic was barely contained as he got onto his Ilu, already moving to lead the way. He looked back at the others, his voice urgent. - We need to go—now!
Tsireya, her face filled with worry, scrambled onto her Ilu. - She needs to see the tsahik! she called out, already following after Neteyam, her Ilu cutting through the water with speed. Lo’ak stayed close behind, his jaw clenched in fear.
Lorre felt Tuk’s small hands grip her waist as she climbed onto the Ilu with her. Aonung and Roxto positioned themselves nearby as the group sped through the water, their Ilus racing as fast as they could.
Lorre and Neytiri gently lowered Kiri onto the woven mat in their family’s marui, their hands trembling with the urgency of the moment. Kiri’s breathing was shallow, her face pale under the dim glow of the lanterns.
Neytiri's eyes flickered with desperation, brushing a stray braid from her daughter’s forehead, her lips moving in a silent prayer to Eywa.
Lorre knelt beside them, her heart pounding as she held onto Kiri’s hand, willing her to wake up. The stillness of the marui felt suffocating as they waited, the sound of Kiri’s uneven breaths the only thing breaking the silence.
Neytiri glanced toward the entrance, her eyes narrowing with impatience as they awaited Ronal. Jake had been eager to call his friends, the avatars, for help. But Neytiri firmly rejected his requests, scolding him for even considering bringing his scientist friends into a new clan that had only just begun to accept their presence.
Just then, Ronal entered the marui, carrying a large basket filled with medical supplies. Her daughter, Tsireya, hurried in behind her, clutching additional herbs and tools for her mother.
Neteyam turned his gaze from the Tsahik to his sister, Kiri. Worry etched across his brow as he watched her lay there
Ronal paused, her voice rising in a soft chant. She began to work her magic, breathing in the bad energy from Kiri's spirit and soul, then exhaling it away with practiced grace, her movements fluid and calming.
Lorre, her heart pounding, caught sight of Kiri twitching. Suddenly, Kiri's eyes fluttered open for a brief moment before she burst into tears, the sound echoing in the small space.
- Kiri! Tuk breathed, her voice trembling with emotion. - You’re awake!
Lorre rushed to her sister's side, grasping her hand tightly and brushing away the tears that streamed down Kiri’s cheeks. - It’s okay, Kiri. I’m here. she whispered, her voice a soothing balm against the chaos.
Kiri's cries filled the air, raw and desperate, her small body shaking with the weight of her emotions. - I was so scared! I couldn’t find you! she sobbed, pressing her face into Lorre's shoulder. Lorre held her close, feeling the heat of her sister’s tears soak into her skin.
Neytiri knelt beside them, her own heart breaking as she stroked Kiri’s hair with gentle fingers. - Oh, my sweet girl, it is alright. she comforted, her voice cracking as she fought back her own tears. - You’re safe now. We’re all here. You’re not alone. she added, pulling Kiri tighter into her embrace. - We will protect you.
Jake moved closer, kneeling beside his family in relief. - We’ve got you, Kiri. he murmured, his deep voice steadying the moment. He placed a reassuring hand on her back - You’re with family, and we won’t let anything happen to you.
Ronal stepped back, giving the family space as she led her daughter out of their Marui.
Lorre felt a knot in her stomach, remembering how close they had got to losing Kiri, and nobody even knew why.
Kiri began to settle, her breathing becoming steadier as the warmth of her family's love enveloped her. - I don’t want to feel like this again. she whispered, her voice trembling.
Jake pulled his daughter closer to him, wrapping his arms around her protectively and kissing the top of her head softly. He let out a deep sigh of relief, feeling the weight of fear lift from his chest as he held Kiri tightly, grateful that she was awake and safe in his embrace.

like babies (part one)
pairing: ao'nung x omaticayan!reader
summary: it had been two weeks since your encounter with the sullys. turns out, jake was best friends with your mother. (small world!) the family took you in, but it wasn't for long you had to relocate. welcome to awa'altu.
word count: 1.9k
warnings: playful banter, mentions of blood, first half is a script reciting just with a 2nd person insert (you/your pronouns)
you didn't interject when jake came and told you, kiri, neteyam, and lo'ak you were moving. most of the clan didn't know you enough, anyways, since they had no idea where you came from. so when he told you to get your ikran out of nowhere, you weren't complaining.
as you flew in for landing, jake and neytiri began to yip to get the meticayans attention. the reef people lived in what looked like netted structures, along beaches with baskets and small decretory things everywhere. tree branches hung over each home, tents draped over the netting as you flew closer before landing on the sand. you didn't move for a moment as everyone got off their ikrans and walked towards the meticayan.
"on me." jake said under his breath, walking quicker to keep up with tuk, who was eagerly running up to them.
"tuk," neytiri called, pulling her hand.
the meticayan quickly surrounded you, looking at the strange blue family that stood before them. you looked around at the clan. they had larger tails than us, wider arms built like fins, probably to assist with swimming in the water. you noticed them begin to move out the way as two boys came up.
one of the boys had short curly hair, looking at the new visitors with a greeting smile, which you quickly learned was mockery as the other boy, with braids pulled into a bun, spoke.
"is that supposed to be a tail?" he said, whispering to the other boy.
another girl came through, people moving out of the way for her as well. "enough, roxto. ao'nung." the girl said, glaring at the both of them as she said their names. lo'ak, who had been staring at the girl the whole time, finally spoke.
"hi." he said, shyly. she giggled and looked away, and neteyam looked at you with a knowing glance. you looked away to keep yourself from laughing.
"i see you, tonowari." jake spoke, looking at him. tonowari's mate paced back and forth in front of the visitors, glaring at every single one of us. "i see you, ronal." he said, looking at her as she stiffened. neytiri followed. "i see you, ronal."
you had eventually stopped listening to their conversation, as you looked back to the three kids who had gotten your attention. ao'nung was looking at you, before he smirked and turned to roxto once more. "look at their arms, they're so thin." roxto laughed with him, earning a smack to the head by the girl.
"tsireya, we're just having fun." ao'nung said.
"it's rude. they need uturu, why are you mocking them?"
suddenly, all conversation was silenced as ronal walked up to you. she pulled at neteyams arm. "their arms are thin." she begun to flick at neytiri's tail, earning a hiss from her. "their tails are weak. you will be slow in the water."
she turned to kiri, walking up to her and pulling her hand to her. "they are not even true na'vi."
"yes we are," kiri interjected.
ronal looked at lo'ak and you, grabbing both your hands and holding them up like a trophy. "they have demon blood!"
this announcement made all of the meticayan gasp, some hiss, and majority backing away. "hey. hey! see?" jake shouted and held his hands up. "i was born of the sky people, and now i am na'vi. you can adapt, we can adapt."
you said nothing as ronal put you and lo'ak's hands down. for a moment, her and tonowari exchanged glances, as if they spoke with their eyes. ronal put her head down, and looked away.
tonowari then looked and spoke. "toruk makto and his family will stay with us. consider them our brothers and sisters. they do not know the sea. they will be like babies taking their first breath. teach them our ways, so they do not suffer the shame.." he turned to glare at jake. "of being useless." he looked at ao'nung and tsireya. "my son ao'nung and daughter tsireya will guide your children."
this earned a groan from ao'nung, but tsireya quickly ran to lo'ak. "come and see our village!"
as you walked along the netted, hammock-like floors, you saw people come closer to you to watch you walk along. a woman, with an animal you've never seen before, swam up under where you walked and nudged it. you turned to look, and laughed when you saw the creature. you leaned in to rub its head as it squealed. neteyam pulled your tail. "yo, keep up!'" you rolled your eyes as you stood up once again and began to walk with them.
ao'nung and roxto followed quickly behind as tsireya lead ahead to ensure you went the right way.
after you got settled in, you skipped your first day of training. you were tired, and didn't feel like being babied. you walked along the warm beach before you sat down, laying on your back in the sun. after a few minutes, you drifted off.
"hey.. wake up!" you heard a faint voice in the back of your head as your eyes fluttered open. it was jake. "why aren't you training with the other kids?"
"i don't know, i guess i'm just tired."
jake looked at you, a bit of sympathy in his eyes, before he sat down beside you. "listen, kid. let me tell you something about your mother. jas was a kind soul. she was not with what quartitch was doing. she was determined, and she never let anything stand in her way."
he paused before he looked out to the sea. "now, i know something's up with you. i won't push you for it. but at least try and learn something from them? this is your home now. lo'ak isn't making this much easier for us, neteyam isn't watching him, kiri is in her own world, and tuk is only 8. can you just try?"
you looked at him, before you sighed. "fine." you sat up, balanced yourself and walked with him to the group on the other side of the beach. you arrived just in time, as you saw lo'ak and neteyam whooping in unison as they hopped off the side of their home and dove into the water. hesitantly, you watched before diving in with them.
the water was warm, coral surrounding you as you looked around at the fish, that swam with you. you felt your tail being pulled and turned to look at lo'ak and swim after him. you smacked the back of his head before beginning to follow tsireya.
after a moment, you felt this burning sensation in your lungs. you looked over to see lo'ak and neteyam swimming up already, and you followed suit to catch your breath. under the water, you saw ao'nung look around before he swam up.
"you're too fast, wait for us!" tuk said, when she swam up.
ao'nung looked at her and grinned at the rest of us in mockery. "you guys are not good divers. maybe good at swinging through trees," he continued before getting a light tap by tsireya on his shoulder. you laughed at the interaction.
"what are you laughing at, forest girl?"
"you, fish-lips." that earned an eyebrow raise from ao'nung.
"since you're so cocky, let's see how well you can swim." he dove under water, before pulling your leg, dragging you under with him.
quickly, before your head was submerged, you took a deep breath and swam after him. he was fast, obviously. you weren't going to be able to keep up with him. after a moment, you decided to swim to the side and hide in some coral. ao'nung looked around, and swam up.
"where'd she go?" he shouted over to tsireya.
"i'm not sure."
"maybe she drowned," roxto chimed in and got quickly nudged by neteyam. you silently emerged from behind ao'nung, and tackled him. there was a small crowd of "ooo.." before ao'nung realized what happened.
"what the hell?" he said, before being submerged in water. you quickly swam away, but he yipped. suddenly, a long-necked large fish came from behind ao'nung, and he repositioned himself to quickly catch up to you, pulling you onto the fish. you screamed as you came to shore.
"the fuck is that?" you said, staring at the creature.
ao'nung turned to everyone when he spoke. you glared at him, and watched as he begun to click his tongue more to make another noise. suddenly, four more of the same ocean creatures that pulled you arrived.
"these are ilu. if you want to live here, you must ride." he gestured to the creatures that swam up to the ocean. you and lo'ak exchanged a worried glance, you two were not the best when it came to flying ikran, or riding direhorses. swimming an ilu would probably be way worse.
"you first, forest girl." he gestured his hand out to you to help you onto the ilu. you walked over, and swatted his hand away before placing yourself on the ilu.
"i got it."
"no you don't.. you look like you're curled into a ball. straighten your back, use only one hand to hold the saddle." he placed his hand on your back, and you jumped, turning to hiss at him as he put his palms up, moving away. "fine, do it yourself."
you did as he said, holding the saddle with one hand and squaring yourself out. carefully, you pulled your braid from the back of your head and connected it with the ilu. your pupils dialated.
"feel her. feel her breath, feel her soul." ao'nung said to you, as you looked over to see tsireya giving lo'ak the same speech.
you breathed with her, before leaning forward and thinking for the ilu to go forward. and she was fast. after about a minute and a half of gripping on with two hands, afraid of getting yanked off, she made a sharp turn and you fell off, flying back against some coral. you saw lo'ak ahead of you, flying off as well. you heard a laugh underwater as you turned to see ao'nung swimming up. you followed after, and heard him laughing at you two.
"you hardly lasted a minute, you really are like babies." ao'nung said, looking between the two of you.
"enough," tsireya said. "why don't we take a break?"
"best idea today. my stomach hurts too much from laughing at these two." lo'ak glared at him as he got out of the water. you decided not to follow them to where they were going, and just sat down. you saw kiri far out with her ilu earlier, but she was gone now, you were glad she was doing okay.
staring out into the open water, you didn't even notice ao'nung sit beside you.
"forest people are weird. you and kiri both came out to the beach to stare at nothing but calm water."
you looked over at him and noticed the bruising and bloody nose he had, but decided not to say anything. you had faintly heard jake yelling at lo'ak, so you just assumed the two got into it. you looked back at the beach.
"it's warm on the beach."
"was the forest cold or something?"
"no, but it was wet. so it never stayed warm like this."
"the ocean's wet too, you know."
"shut up, smart-ass."
"if you say so." he turned to look at the ocean with you, before he got up. "you didn't do.. terrible. today."
"what?"
"nothing. later tree climber!" he walked away, shouting that so you could hear it.
you scoffed, and continued to look out onto the water. you smiled a little, but didn't notice it.
you didn't do terrible?

some time away (part two)
pairing: ao'nung x omaticayan!reader
summary: you had been doing well with your metkayinan training, you and your found family mastering the "way of water." it was a warm night, and you decided to take your ilu out for a ride.
word count: 2.5k.. wow
warnings: a wee bit of angst, a fight
today was one of your breathing lessons. you, tsireya, ao'nung, roxto, kiri, lo'ak, and neteyam sat in a circle, as tsireya began the process. you, lo'ak, and neteyam were still winded from the ilu riding earlier. you had no clue how kiri was able to keep herself balanced. the riding wasn't the hard part either way, it was the breath holding. 'guess that's why we're doing this lesson,' you thought.
"breathe in," tsireya said as the small circle begun to breathe in through their mouths. roxto would pull up his hands every time he breathed to show the gesture, so subconsciously, you and neteyam had begun to do it too.
"imagine flickering a flame," she said as the group exhaled. "you must slow your heartbeat." roxto raised his hands once again, and there went our breath. tsireya reached over to lo'ak, placing one hand on his chest, and another on his lower abdomen. "breathe in," she said, as lo'ak inhaled once more.
you stifled your laughter as you watched his tail struggling to keep composure behind him. ao'nung scoffed at lo'ak's crush on his sister.
"breathe from down here," tsireya continued. she pressed on his stomach a little, gesturing to his diaphragm. he continued to breathe. "breathe out slowly." he quickly exhaled, unable to focus.
"lo'ak, your heartbeat is fast."
"s-sorry."
it took everything in you, roxto, and neteyam to not cackle at the sight. kiri rolled her eyes and shoved you a bit at the mockery of lo'ak. "what?" you mouthed, grinning.
"try to focus," tsireya said, earning a quick nod from him. "breathe in, and breathe out." neteyam and roxto continued to snicker at the sight. ao'nung quickly stopped this.
"are the rest of you even breathing? or are you just watching lo'ak stare at tsireya with hearts in his eyes?" he interjected, looking at the omaticayan of the circle. tsireya quickly flushed and took her hands off of lo'ak. he looked up, embarrassed, but glaring at ao'nung at the same time.
"you," ao'nung said, pointing to kiri. "breathe."
kiri looked at him for a moment, before rolling her eyes and beginning to breathe. "the way of water has no beginning and no end," he spoke, turning to look at neteyam and you. "come on, start breathing too."
you huffed before beginning to breathe with kiri. "the sea is around you, and in you." tsireya began to join in with the speech, roxto looking at the two before realizing he had to join in as well.
"the sea is your home, before your birth, and after your death."
breathe.
"our hearts beat in the womb of the world. our breath burns in the shadows of the deep."
breathe.
"the sea gives, and the sea takes. water connects all things."
breathe.
"life to death. darkness to light."
breathe.
it was silent for a moment after that, the aura of the circle surprisingly calm. you sighed as everyone else begun to breathe regularly. ao'nung stood up.
"now let's test that breathing in the water."
you weren't the biggest fan of swimming with the ilu, but you quickly began to enjoy it as you got good enough to go deeper, and farther without supervision. the group dove into the water with their ilus' after a quick moment of yipping for them. your favorite ilu training game was tag, where one of the metkayina would tag an omaticaya to challenge them to chase the faster kids. you were good enough to catch up to roxto, but that was about it. at least you were faster than the sullys.
it had been a moment underwater of teaching tsireya, ao'nung, and roxto how to play rock, paper, scissors, but eventually they decided that ao'nung was it.
the omaticayan split, you following neteyam, and lo'ak following kiri and tuk, to make it harder for ao'nung to tag all of them at once. he went after you, your reaction time being a bit too slow when you heard he was it.
riding quick with your ilu, you heard ao'nungs laughter bubble up (literally) as he gave away his breath. quickly, he swam up, and dove right down to you. you made a sharp turn he couldn't see. looking around for a moment, he hissed and turned back for kiri.
kiri was agile, but she wasn't too quick. she was out. she hovered above with tsireya and roxto, treading until it was their turn to be it.
he took a moment to breathe, before going back under. he immediately saw neteyam, who came out to see if the game was over. he swam past, and quickly made a hand signal to a rock. suddenly, you and lo'ak came out and swam in circles to distract ao'nung, before splitting up.
he went straight, unsure who he was headed for. his ilu was going fast, he was sure he wasn't going to see anybody this way but it was a good way to scope the area. he looked to his left before his ilu squealed. he crashed right into you.
you tumbled off your ilu, your ilu having an appropriate reaction and swimming away. the force of the swimming sent you flying backwards, and you slammed your head into some coral. you sat on the ocean floor, clutching your head.
you winced at the feeling of your head, looking at your hand. you were bleeding. fast. you thought back to one of the earlier lessons.
"always watch your head. the coral is sharp, and unforgiving." there was more, but that's all you could think of before you blacked out.
hey
wake up
shit, what happened?
i dont know, my ilu went too fast and i crashed right into her
why would you do that?
it wasn't on purpose, genius.
well it sure looks like it was.
what, because i don't like you guys?
"of course, take us out one by one." lo'ak said. it was the first voice you recognized as you came to. your eyes fluttered as you heard tuk. "she's awake!" the closest voice to you quickly turned away to repeat herself. "she's awake!"
"tuk?" you said, looking at her.
"man, you looked sick. and not in the good sick like dad says." you smiled at her before wincing. your head was still sore.
tsireya and lo'ak rushed to your side to help you up.
"are you okay?" tsireya said, looking at you with worry.
"yeah.. fine." you said, trying to stand yourself up. ao'nung walked over as you balanced yourself. as you used tsireya for support, you gently took her off of you and mumbled a "i got it."
ao'nung stood there, staring at you for a moment. "i'm sorry i crashed into you." he said under his breath.
"wow, reef boy apologizing? never thought i'd see the day." you looked up at him before stumbling.
"falling for me already?" he said, grinning, as you turned away from him.
roxto walked you to your room as you laid down for a bit, and took a nap. all of a sudden, you woke up to shouting and screaming nearby. you sat up, and looked outside the netting to see the familiar blue and teal blurs.
here we go again.
you got up and ran over there. "hey! stop it!" you yelled to lo'ak, pulling on ao'nungs ear. suddenly, he got smacked across the face with.. roxto's tail? what the fuck? you shoved roxto out the way before pulling lo'ak out of ao'nung's grasp.
"enough!" you shouted. "what is wrong with you two? can't get along for shit."
"yeah," ao'nung said between breaths. "get your four-fingered freak sister to help you. you're all freaks."
you didn't even bother to correct him. you and lo'ak weren't related, but it still hurt. four fingered freak? you stared at ao'nung, expression blank. suddenly, neteyam charged in. "hey. back off."
"aww, big brother come to save the day?-" one of ao'nungs goons chimed in before he stopped him. you used this chance to get jake. you ran out into their room.
"firefly, what's wrong?"
"it's lo'ak. ao'nung just like beat his ass-"
"where?"
"down there." you pointed to the beach, and he ran out. you didn't want to follow him, you didn't want to hear the things he would say. you walked to the opposite end of the beach, and sat on some rocks.
it was sunset now, eclipse was coming. your head was filled with everything and nothing at the same time. living with the metkayinan was fun, but it wasn't what you were used to. you missed home, even if your definition of it isn't the exact same as the sully's. dangling your legs of the netting, you looked at your hands.
"just another four-fingered freak." you heard ao'nung and roxto's voices echoing in your head.
you looked back out at the ocean for a minute before lowering yourself into the water, and yipping. your ilu squealed quickly, popping up from under the water. you positioned yourself and took off.
you weren't exactly sure where to go. you hadn't spoken to any of the sully's today after the fight, and you didn't know why. you couldn't say they don't know how you feel, when three of them are half-breeds. jake, lo'ak, and kiri, especially kiri, are probably the only ones who do know how you feel, and yet you couldn't believe that.
along the warm water, you found a large rock. you were taught by tsireya that some rocks were disguised to be caves, pockets of air underwater. you dove your ilu underwater and swam closer to the "rock," to see there was an opening. you got off your ilu and swam into the cave.
the hidden space was beautiful, bioluminescence mimicking the spots on your face as you reached up to touch the moss on the ceiling of the rock. it glowed under your touch as the cave, almost alive, reacted to your every movement. you smiled at your ilu, peeking its head up from under the small crevice you swam into.
"it's okay, i'll call for you when i want to go back. you can leave." you calmly said to the ilu, as it swam off. you turned your attention back to the cave, finding an indent you could perch yourself on. you lifted yourself up, and sat on the ledge, staring down at the water.
you leaned your head back and lost yourself in thought. you weren't really a freak, were you?
thoughts swarmed your head as your memories date back to sneaking inside the abandoned pods.
watching the old video logs your mother made with jake and grace.
looking at her and her five fingers.
looking at you and your five fingers.
why did she make you.. different?, you thought. your heart began to race as tears welled in your eyes. you weren't really the freaks that the metkayina called you, they just aren't very welcoming. right?
your thoughts were interrupted as you heard a splash and a quick gasp for breath. you flinched at the sudden noise and quickly wiped your tears. "ao'nung?" you spoke, staring at the boy.
"y/n?" he said, in the same tone as you. you rolled your eyes at his mockery.
"what are you doing here?"
"i come here all the time, what are you talking about?"
"oh, i didn't know. i just found this spot."
"sorry forest girl, it's taken."
you looked at him before pushing yourself off the ledge and beginning to swim out the crevice. before you could leave, he grabbed a nearby pebble and chucked it at your head. you turned back to him, ready to ask him what that was for, before he spoke.
"you don't have to leave." ao'nung said, gesturing back to where you were seated like it was a throne.
"why not? seems like you can't stand me and my four fingers." you stopped swimming and tread in place as he stared at you. something about his gaze was different. you were used to the piercing mockery he always gave you and lo'ak, but this time it was .. calmer.
"it's a cool spot, i'm sure it has room for two. and i'm sorry about what i said." he shrugged and pushed himself up on the ledge, sifting some moss and fish eggs out of the way and back into the water. you sat beside him. it was silent for a while, before he decided to speak again. "so, how's your ilu doing? i saw him on the way here. when's the last time you fed him?"
you paused for a minute, processing what he just said. ".... you feed them?"
".... y/n you can't be serious."
"i thought they fed themselves?"
"oh eywa, you're starving your ilu. come," he said, before diving in the water. you hesitated before following him, but did so anyways. you tapped him and quickly signed.
"what are we doing?"
"getting your poor ilu some fish." he digged in the small pouch he had and pulled out a dagger. "call your ilu and stay here," he signed. he swam away. you did as he said, although you weren't very sure about this.
after a moment, he returned with a fish, and tossed it to you. "feed him." you stared at the fish, then at your ilu. what if he bit you? you were scared, did you really have to? why-
"feed the damn ilu!"
you flinched at his rough tap and saw him sign that, before you quickly shoved the fish to the ilu. he squealed and ate it. you smiled at him. he gestured you to follow him to shore. you sat on your ilu above water, as he laughed at you.
"you were so scared, for what?"
you laughed with him. "i don't know, i-" you cut yourself of when you heard the familiar yipping. neytiri was looking for you. shit. was it past eclipse already?
"jake/dad's gonna kill me." the two of you said in unison. you looked at each other and grinned.
"race you to shore?" he said.
"you're on."
you lost bad btw
"where were you?" jake said, staring at.. ao'nung?
you were confused, until you saw neteyam charging up. "tell them what you did!" he shouted to him. he looked confused, until realization hit. he away in shame.
"i took lo'ak beyond the reefs."
"you what?" you interjected. you couldn't believe him, but after a moment it made sense. "is that why you kept me out on the water? so i wouldn't realize he was gone?"
"no, it wasn't that-" he could barely get it out before you got off your ilu and walked away. you thought you could make amends with ao'nung, after what he had said.
guess you were wrong.

// Surprising Tactics Pt.2 //
> Aonung x Omaticayan! Reader < Part 1
> After the altercation this morning, things were tense among your families. So, when your father instructed you to assist Aonung with his his duties today as a form of apology to his parents, you didn’t think it could get much worse. (Enemies to lovers, protective family, slight intruding thoughts)<
“What happened,” Your fathers temper grinding through those few words. He was furious at what occurred, both actions of his children and those of the chief’s. Though it was expected, he’d held out seldom hope that the discriminations for his blood wouldn’t affect their situation too much.
Now, it seemed to all be for nothing, if the marks he’d discovered while patching up your bodies were any proof.
A faded handprint under your fathers own fingers as he gently gripped your arm, eyes blazing with silent anger. His gaze flew up towards Lo’ak, observing similar cuts along the boys jaw.
“Lo’ak,” Their eyes locked, “What. Happened.” It was not a question as it was an order, timbers in his voice reverberating with a low grumble.
“It wasn’t a plan to fight them sir, they wouldn’t leave Kiri alone so I stepped in.” His ears dropped back in admission, “I’m sorry, I just meant to stop them, not start a fight.” Jake’s eyes softened at the display, knowing his youngest son never apologized this genuinely if it had been his plan.
“Well, what’s happened is over,” He glanced around their home, “all we can do now is our best to apologize- and yes you will apologize.” A pointed look quieted any objections.
“This is their home, we must adapt to their living, not make it harder on them.” He stood, having mostly bandaged the worst of the injuries. “So, today you’ll help their children with duties they have.”
“What?”
“Dad-”
‘No,” He announced, “That’s it, no more arguing. We’ll be lucky enough if this works back our favor in the village.” It was final, his tone was already clipped enough. Reaching aggravation was already evident, but seemed to slightly ween off for a moment.
“I’m going to give you slight leverage here, though I will be picking who you’re helping,” Looking at Lo’ak, raising an eyebrow at his small sigh of annoyance. “It’s only gonna be for today, after this I’ll talk with the Olo’eyktan tomorrow about the situation. Try hard not to let it escalate again.”
“Yes, sir” Neteyam responded on behalf of the others, each making their way outside for their assignments.
“Neteyam,” Turning at the doorway towards his father, “how’d the other guys look?” Slightly smirking at his own question.
“ . . Worse,” His whispered tone pleasing his father, a sense of pride entering his chest at the responding look.
“Good,” Jake patted his son on the back while finally following the others outside to get to work. Aware the possibilities of error in his next decision, but now that they understand full consequences at stake, he’ll try trusting their judgements again.
“Okay, Neteyam,” His back straightened at the direct address, “Take your brother with you, you’ll be assisting Tsireya with the younger children at the quarry.” Lo’ak’s eyes lit up in excitement briefly, before quickly extinguishing at his brothers look. You smiled to yourself, no doubt you’ll hear many complaints about this later from the younger boy.
“Kiri, you and Tuk will be with your mother today. She’s making a small expedition, I don’t doubt you’ll both be put to work.” He smiled down at his youngest baby, lightly rubbing her back. You glanced from them back to your home, with the interrogation over you could see your mother packing. Collection of bags and rope being placed into her travel bind.
“(Y/n),” You turned back to your father, “you’ll be helping Aonung with the tulkuns, and report back to me if anything happens.” As badly as you wanted to protest, you knew your father would take care of things if Aonung did attempt a second round.
“Okay, I will.” He nodded in pride, gradually heading back to your mother. When spontaneously you were bombarded by Neteyam and Lo’ak, both worried.
“Sis, you make sure and yell for us if that skxawng tries anything okay? And we mean anything.” Neteyam’s eyes filled with concern, towards your wellbeing and safety mainly. That didn’t stop a trace of anger from lingering at mention of Aonung being anywhere near his sister.
“Guys. you’re treating her like a baby. She’s strong too y’know.” Kiri raised a hand to her hip, annoyance blatant. “She’ll either kick his ass, or go down fighting and then she’ll call for you. But quit treating her like she’s hopeless.” Those being her final words, as she shortly followed after your father, promptly smacking both boys on the shoulder.
“Just- be safe, alright?” Lo’ak nudged your arm, eyes serious and defensive.
“I will Lo’ak, I swear.” You nudged him back, watching as his form shrunk into the distance after the eldest. Finally, you could breathe and take everything in entirely.
You’re partnered with Aonung, the very asshole who did nothing but torment your siblings all this-morning. With a heavy heart you thought back to the look of disappointment on your fathers features, not suiting him at all, you’d try to get along with the other boy. For your families sake.
Coming upon the waters never failed to amaze you, pristine liquid barely rippling under the sun, beautiful life bubbling near the coral. It was serene, almost enchanting as you slowly kneeled down, waiting on your work partner.
Running your hands along dripping leaves, it almost makes you nostalgic. Missing the lands of your birth longer you stared at the far greenery, climbing for the first time feeling fresh in your mind now.
What would it be like on the other side? If you were the ones teaching them your ways, how to be one with nature in the trees. Showing beauty in air and breeze, how amazing it would be if you could go back. Back to your first ride, how exciting it was witnessing life from above, your fathers arm holding you secure but not restricting.
How would these people handle it? Would they feel equally frustrated as you do now, or take it up easily. Flutters of imagery floated through your mind with these thoughts, until a surprisingly humorous one arose.
Could Aonung handle learning your society, your lively hood, with the same pressures he’s been putting on your family? Or would he be out of his depth, stumbling around on the trees, startled by small quirks of the Ikran.
Imagining the boy falling face first off of his saddle was too much for you, as small chuckles came to the surface. The dirt and leaves sticking to his naturally dewy skin, that stupid smirk of his finally gone. That’s the dream, knocking such a snarky boy back to the soil. Making him see beyond his own interests, or at least consider others as well as his own.
A thud landed next to your sitting form, greatly startling you as your fist struck out towards it, successfully making contact.
“Ow! Shit,” Aonung’s form hunkered down holding his shin, “What the hell was that for?” Almost shouting at you, his voice already annoyed.
“What- You startled me! It’s not my fault you didn’t say anything before landing like a newborn Pa’li!” You yelled back, standing from your once calming position.
“Whatever! Let’s just get this done,” He bared his teeth towards you, almost pushing you down as he made way towards the open waters.
‘Already an amazing start’, you thought to yourself before following. Wishing you could push his face into the sand, just as his friends had done Lo’ak hours earlier. But, thinking back to home, you knew you couldn’t.
Best behavior, that’s what your father wanted. But, looking at this boy, how he motioned you along as if just given life by Eywa. Maybe your fathers wrath wouldn’t be too awful. Then your mothers angered face appeared in your mind, quickly making you back track on the idea, as you reached the teal fish boy.
“So, what’s the pla-” Words cut off as his body dived in, leaving zero time before taking off. Swiftly you jumped in after, focusing on a paddle rather than under the water, seeing as you have yet to get breathing down properly.
Waves in the water momentarily distracted you, as his head popped out next to your arm, obnoxious pride drowning his face.
“Can’t keep up? Oh yeah, I forgot that your sister swims better than you. And she’s barely out of the baby stage.” Now you were stagnant, too focused on his teasing to swim farther. Besides, with the speed you could go right now, it would take two sunrises just to arrive there.
His head whipped around your surroundings, seeming to have come among the same conclusion, conflict rapidly peaked into his eyes. The fish swam around your legs while you waited for his words, confused but curious in the situation.
“Okay, this is taking too long, so I have a plan,” His body floated towards you, “but keep in mind this is the only way we can get there and get my duties done in time. Got it?” Determination shining in his eyes, but also a hint of insecurity. Such a small hint still frightened you, what if he was tricking you, luring you out to leave you for dead.
His hand pressed into your spine, bringing you back to the present. As you turned to him again, you’d reached your conclusion.
“Okay, what’s your plan?” Tone concise and to the point, letting him know that if he was joking, you would have none of it.
“You get on my back.”
What? Pure confusion spiraled around your mind, why should you get on his back? If this is a joke, the outcome must make even less sense than his ‘plan’ does now.
“Why would I get on your back?”
Your question went unanswered as he maneuvered his way in front of you, latching bodies like a young child and their parent.
“Hold your breathe for as long as you can.” Timing was brief, for right as your lungs closed to hold the air, suddenly fish were all around you. All organisms seemingly blurred into color, but when focus finally came, it was a gorgeous sight.
All the different schools, swimming among their own, bodies beautifully weaving in and around one another. Larger sea creatures arching and cutting through waves with ease, in their own elements.
Looking ahead of you was a newer sight to behold.
Aonung’s body moved as one with the water, calm and graceful but alarmingly quick. You glanced down, still keeping hold with your arms, his tail was clearly strong. Bubbles and ripples left in your wake as you cleared the ocean floor. Next thing you saw was land, as your forms broke the waters surface.
His hands moving you away, but holding you steady for a moment. It wouldn’t make sense to let you fall in now, after all the work it took to get here.
“Let’s get this done and get back,” Aonung jogged out onto the small island, shoving past once more, leaving you with only yourself.
Thinking back to his form in the waters, strong and agile. You knew their people were natural swimmers, their waters were a second home. But to see such an act up close, how it felt going at such a speed through the animals was..
Fascinating!
Aonung’s body clearly was one with this terrain. How his arms didn’t budge from your legs during the trip, making sure you weren’t lost along the way. His teal skin almost glowing in comparison to the oceanic blue-
No! Nope, you will not think that way. As you raised a hand to the burning on your face, realizing your mistake in thoughts. You won’t think that way of this fish boy, he was an asshole, only kept you in mind so he could save his tail from the consequences if you did not return.
You can’t let this trip go wrong. How much worse could things get?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your avatar modern a-z list and ur neteyam series! I was wondering if you took requests by any chance? like could you do something with aonung with fem reader maybe enemies to lovers? sorry if u dont!
no way, tysm for this! I haven't even put out anything specific saying ill do requests and the fact that you wanted to see more of my writing means so much to me 💚 tysm anon for giving me this chance, i hope it won't disappoint you! There was no specification so I hope me taking creative liberty with this was okay!
: ̗̀➛ “I hate you.” “Love you too.”
word count and approx. reading time: 2.5k words, 8 minutes?
pairings: ao’nung x fem! omaticayan! reader
notes: - reader is neteyam’s twin sister - when someone says something in english it’ll be in italics but not all italic dialogue is english it may just be for emphasising the word - I’m pretty sure the na’vi have their own curse words maybe - I tried to make it seem like you (the reader) is talking to..well..an audience, in the beginning. but i realised thats also you. so to seperate it, the indented text at the start is you talking to yourself.
warnings: kissing, literally making out, teasing, a lot of cussing at the start, neteyam being a protective brother (not a warning ik)
Meeting someone that is so stupidly annoying, so much that you want to kill them on the inside, is common. Its alright. No biggie. Happens to all of us.
But if the same person makes you feel all giddy inside with their stupid smile and their stupid face and their stupid hands on your shoulder and their stupid mouth, so giddy that you want to shut them up by kissing them, then you’re gonna wanna sit down for this, cause it happened to me, too.
“Ao’nung, I swear on Eywa if you don’t actually help me with this right now I will pull out your hair and send my ikran after you, you piece of shit!” you practically shriek at him after being stranded by the ilu.
It had been a month since you and your family first landed in Awa’atlu and started training with the metkayina.
After mastering your breathing, the next step of training consisted of the metkayina helping you and your siblings learn how to ride the creatures, but Ao’nung was being uncooperative as usual.
He didn’t adjust any part of your riding position, insisting that you were going to be fine and that your posture was already “perfect.”, to which you gave him a suspicious glare. And stupidly, you trsusted him. That ended up with you being stranded in the middle of the blue ocean, being practically blown away by the water, ilu leaving you in the dust.
He laughed, his ilu gliding across the water with him on its back, going in your direction. “That was hilarious. You didn’t actually believe me when I said you were going to be fine, did you?” he chuckled, eyes silently judging your messed up and sopping wet hair.
You glared at him, exhaling deeply. “You’re such an annoying bitch, you know that?” you mumbled under your breath, saying the word in english so he wouldn’t understand. He had been messing with you for weeks now, always laughing at you if you’d messed something up and never actually being helpful.
As you swam forward, water level at your shoulders, to get onto the back of his ilu, he extended his hand, offering to help you up. Hesitantly, you took it. Once your hand near his, he reached forward and grabbed your forearm, pulling you up and leaning down into your face.
“You know, for such a pretty face you have such a foul mouth.” he muttered with his deep voice, amused eyes searching your face for a reaction. He really didn’t know exactly what the word meant, but he definitely had a guess.
You were shocked, your hand held high up in the air. He was so strong that his grip on your wrist lifted up the rest of your body, yet it didn’t hurt you at all. Your waist was still submerged in the water,
Your eyes narrowed into slits, he thought he could get the best of you? Even though you were suspended in midair you still came up with a comeback. “Wish I could say the same.” you whispered in mock pity, bottom lip jutting out in a small pout.
He rolled his eyes with an entertained smirk, lowering you back in the water. “Please, you wish you had my beautiful face.” he said as you mounted the back of his ilu, sitting directly behind him. You were about to respond with another insult when the ilu suddenly dove under the water, and quickly you shut your mouth and took a deep breath in so you wouldn’t pass out.
It was all so sudden that you didn’t even realise what you just did; wrapped your arms around his abdomen, clutching it for dear life to avoid being thrown off the ilu for a second time. Once you came to your senses, however, you couldn’t bring yourself to pull away.
Partly because you were just shocked, but also because you could feel his abs. Damn. He certainly was well built for his age, you thought to yourself before snapping out of your momentary daze. You quickly repositioned your hands to hold his shoulders instead, wanting to slap yourself in the face for the thought you just had.
Sure, you had had a few...maybe romantic thoughts about Ao'nung, especially the first time you two met. He stalked up through the crowd with such confidence and assurance in himself that he caught your attention immediately, but your little love at first sight moment was quickly crushed when he and his friend Rotxo started making fun of your brother's tails, right in front of you.
He was strong, tall, confident, and the Olo'eyktan's eldest son. The whole package. Who wouldn’t like a guy like that? For you, it was much easier to resist, because he was a complete and total asshole to you and your family.
You were pretty sure he had the biggest, stupidest grin on his face right then and there because you knew that he knew that you could feel his muscles. He moved his left arm, placing a hand behind your thigh to secure your position on the ilu as he made a sharp turn around a rock in the water. You were going to have a seizure at this point.
Being Neteyam’s younger twin sister had its perks and definitely its downfalls; your older brother refusing to let you date anyone and side eyeing the hell out of any guy that dared to approach you.
“Hey, it’s not like you’re going to mate with any of them now! You have the rest of your life for that!” he always said in defense whenever you would get mad at him for scaring a little crush away.
Granted, he was definitely right. Little kid love wouldn’t have suited you and you probably would have broken up with your boyfriend in a week because you were bored. But then at least you would have gotten used to male attention that wasn’t your family. Well, except for that one time, but that was so long ago you had already forgotten the feeling.
You felt blood rush to your cheeks at his touch, stomach doing backflips. You took a hand off his shoulder to pinch his on your thigh, a silent warning since you couldn’t speak underwater, causing his hand to jut away and return to holding the rein at the front of the ilu.
It wasn’t like this was his first time touching you, he’d placed his hand on your shoulder and flickered your forehead, sure. But this time felt different. It was more gentle. More caring. But you hated him. And he hated you. At least that's what you thought.
Your mind wandered to when you were lying in a shallow pool of water with Kiri, chatting away about how Awa'atlu had been for you both so far. "So, how's your little crush?" she smirked, twisting and playing with one of her little braids dangling over her face.
"Crush? I don't have a crush, Kiri." you rolled your eyes. "Are you kidding me??? What about that douchebag Ao'nung?" she stopped playing with her braid, eyes widened. She wasn't mocking you, she actually thought you had a crush on him.
"Ew. Barf. Why would I ever like him? I have taste, sister." you scoffed, pretending that you weren't considering it inside your head. He infuriated you, made you to want to slap the stupid cheshire grin that was constantly on his face.
But when he did keep his mouth shut, you couldn't help but admire his strength. And his better than average face. "I'm too good for him." you said, snapping out of your little daze thinking about him. Kiri raised her eyebrows in amusement, but you didn't notice.
At the end of the day, your family and Tonowari’s gathered for dinner, having a friendly chat about how things have been going lately. Your mother was doing well in Tsahìk training with Ronal, and your father had mastered riding a skimwing. Your ilu training was taken over by Tsireya who was MUCH more helpful than Ao’nung was, and everyone had made good progress.
But the real elephant in the room? Lo’ak and Tsireya sitting in front of each other, always making shy eye contact as they ate, her giggling sometimes when she saw his ears turn purple.
You felt sick to your stomach seeing the interaction. Ronal and your dad didn’t seem to notice, but Tonowari and your mom definitely did. Neytiri hid her smirk by continuing to eat, and Tonowari had a big smile on his face finding that his daughter had found someone (Toruk Makto’s second eldest son, no less!)
Ao’nung wasn’t there to witness this, cause apparently his dad sent him off to do some errands and he was running late. You shared a strained look with your sister Kiri, who made a fake throwing up expression. Neteyam and Tuk honestly couldn’t care less.
When Ao’nung finally arrived, he took the empty seat on Neteyam’s right; in front of you, even though there were 2 other vacant mats he could have sat on. Kiri broke the half amused half disgusted and half oblivious silence, with a “Lo’ak, please stop staring at Tsireya like that I’m literally about to projectile vomit all over the floor.”
“Kiri, shut up!” he groaned, avoiding Tsireya’s gaze in embarrassment. “Yeah, it’s getting weird and I’m losing my appetite.” you commented, stating the truth but teasing your brother at the same time. By this point, both pairs of parents + Tuk decided to ignore you guys' conversation and talked about their own things.
“You’re just jealous you never had anyone that liked you!” Lo’ak accused you, you gasping in fake hurt. “Well that’s not true.” Kiri said, shoving her mouth with more food. Your eyes widened, your head turned to look to your right, directly at your sister. Neteyam looked up at this.
“Oh– right– uhm forget I said anything.” she played it off, temporarily forgetting that you both kept that a secret from your brothers. “Hey no nonononono, I wanna hear more about this guy!” Lo’ak said, eyes flickering between you and Kiri. Ao’nung and Neteyam were also listening intently.
“I don’t think that’s really necessary.” you said nervously, looking at Neteyam whose eyes narrowed. “No. You will tell me.” your older brother spoke, as you gave him a pleading look. “You know you have to tell him sooner or later.” Kiri rolled her eyes as you slapped her arm.
“Okay! Fine!” you sighed, an exasperated expression on your face. “It was Viawli! He confessed to me with some flowers and then we dated for a while. Behind Neteyam’s back.” you finished, burying your hands in your face.
“Honestly you should’ve listened to how annoying she was when they dated. Oh Kiri he’s so sweet he got me flowers- Oh Kiri, he's so funny, Kiri he’s so handsom–” you slap her own hand around her mouth to stop her from talking, your entire face purple at this point. Lo’ak howled with laughter as Neteyam continued eating, expressionless, his annoyance and protective urge probably bubbling up and waiting to explode once your both were out of sight from your parents.
Your eyes met with Ao’nungs, he seemed very shocked at this news, but you decided to ignore it for now. You had more important things to deal with; Neteyam’s wrath.
After receiving a painful earful from your brother, you opted for a little walk along the beach, enjoying how the ocean looked after eclipse. The sand underneath your feet comforted you, and you liked kicking some of it into water just for fun. As you were doing so, you noticed someone who was waist deep into the water. Strange, you thought. Who would be swimming in the cold water at this hour??
You decided to get closer, and then you noticed the bun. It was Ao’nung. You waded in the water, the ripples from your movement alerting him that someone was near. He turned in your direction, making eye contact with you.
You wanted to say something to mock him, but your resolve dissipated once you saw the look on his face. He looked like he had been deep in thought, something you’d never seen before. All you could do was wave hi. He nodded his head a little, indicating it was okay for you to be there.
You waddled through the cold water, standing next to him. He continued staring into the horizon, and you pursed your lips in silence. This was kinda awkward, but you also didn’t want to ruin the moment. You two were so close, if you moved your left arm just a little you could hold his hand.
Wait what? No! You weren’t supposed to be having these sorts of thoughts around him, he was supposed to be annoying! But you couldn’t help yourself, you looked down to see your hand and his, dangling lonely next to each other. You resisted the urge to take his hand, instead marvelling at the size difference. His hand was huge compared to yours.
When you looked up, you noticed he was already staring right back at you. But instead of a smug smirk, he had a gentle smile on his face. A genuine smile. Your lips parted, confused as to what he was thinking.
“So,” he finally said. “This ‘Vialli’ guy. Did he treat you nicely?” he asked, stopping looking at you and instead turning his gaze back to the horizon. “It’s Viawli. Not what I was expecting you to ask but alright. I mean he treated me really well when we dated–” you stopped suddenly, noticing how his ears twitched in annoyance when you said “we dated”.
Holy shit. Was he….jealous????? Your heart raced at this realisation, realising maybe you weren’t hallucinating earlier today and maybe he actually was touching you with care. You decided to test your theory, with a small grin on your face.
“He brought me tons of flowers, he was so sweet, he always complimented me and he always took me out on dates.” you pretended to gush about him, even though you’d already forgotten entirely what your little dates were like.
“He was super good looking, I was so happy that I scored practically the most handsome guy in the clan–” you were interrupted when Ao’nung pulled you by your chin into a heavy kiss. Your eyes widened in shock, before you closed them and melted into the kiss as well.
Your teasing didn’t quite yield the results you expected, but it got you something even better. You wrapped your arms around his neck and his hands snaked around your waist to pull you even deeper into the kiss.
The entire time your brain was just screaming at you, telling you to pull away. That it was wrong. He was supposed to be annoying. But your heart urged you, begged you to not let go of him.
You both pulled away at the same time for air, and you were stunned at what just happened. You just made out. With Ao’nung. And you enjoyed it. The world was truly going to end.
He placed his finger under your chin once more, turning up your head so you’d look at him. He searched your eyes, your face, searching for any sign that you reciprocate his feelings. “I,” he hesitated, “I see you, Y/n.” he whispered.
You didn’t say anything for a while, just looking at him, and that made him concerned. He was about to back away when you finally placed your hand on his cheek gently. “Ao’nung. I see you.”
His smile grew wide, and he leaned in. You thought he was about to kiss you again, but instead he put his mouth near your ear and mumbled, "I can treat you so much better than that skxawng ever could.", the huskiness of his voice making your knees buckle.
“You know you look ethereal in the night, right?” he said, as you both sat down on the sand with legs outstretched, hands holding. “Oh shut up, will you? It’s going to get weird.” you huff, feeling slightly embarrassed that you went from shouting at him and calling him a bitch to kissing him and holding hands in just one day.
“It’s not weird. I don’t feel like anything’s weird.” he smirks, a glint of mischievousness in his eyes, “Why? Do I make you feel weird?”
You pause, before taking your hand away from his and pinching them together. “I’m this close to throwing sand in your face.” you deadpan.
He squints, looking at your fingers. “They’re touching–” he realises what that means and he takes off running, you following closely behind him with a handful of sand.
Eventually you catch up to him, being faster since you were much more agile than him on land. You tackle him from behind, pushing him down as he yelps. At this point you no longer have any more sand in your hands and you can’t bring yourself to take any, cause you’re too busy laughing and heaving.
You let him go and sit cross legged in front of him, smiling as he pulls himself up, panting for air. “I,” he breathes out, “I hate you so much–” You snicker, amused by how tired he is and place your hands on your cheeks. “Love you too, Ao.”

Pairing: Ao'nung x omaticayan! fem!reader
Summary: Idk read it ig? :3
Warnings: Bullying, name-calling, fighting, angst
Author's note: I'm slowly losing motivation for this but I’ll try to finish it during the weekends. I'm finally done with this crap after 3 days. Not sure when I’ll update, I’ll try on the weekends like I said so!
Credits: For the whole plot idea I have for this fanfic I have to credit and thank @lorre-verie <3
- Oh wow, how nice of you to finally join us, Lorre! Lo'ak remarked with mock surprise, squatting on the rough rocks. - We've only been waiting for, like, an hour.
Lorre gave him a dry, half-hearted smile before sitting down crossed-legged next to the others, more specifically, next to Neteyam and in front of Aonung. Her mind had wandered just moments before, replaying the memory of blood on her lips, the sharp pain in her ribs, and the way breathing had felt impossible. She hadn’t meant to lose track of time after the break, but the weight of those memories had pulled her under, making the present feel distant.
- Sorry, I lost track of time you muttered, though your words were really meant for Tsireya. She gave you a small nod, as if it was nothing
The warmth of the rock seeped into your legs as Tsireya began explaining the breathing technique again. Her calm, patient tone only made you feel more self-conscious, like a child still learning something as basic as breathing.
Still, you followed her instructions: inhale through the nose, fill the stomach, hold, then release.
A low chuckle came from beside you, and when you opened your eyes, Ao’nung’s judgmental smile deepened your frustration. You took a shaky breath, glancing around the group with a tight-lipped frown. His constant, disdainful presence made it nearly impossible to focus.
- Lorre? Are you alright? Tsireya asked, noticing that you stopped the breathing exercises.
You straightened up, crossing your arms tightly as you took a deep, frustrated breath. - I am fine. you said, the words coming out harsher than you intended.
- Little forest girl can’t breathe properly. Ao’nung mocked, his smirk taunting as his gaze lingered on Lorre. Tsireya shot him a warning glance.
- Ao’nung. she cautioned, her tone firm.
Lorre’s lips curved into a bitter smile as she straightened up. - How about you try surviving in the forest? See how long you last before something eats you.
Ao’nung didn’t move, his ears twitching slightly. - I’m not one the hiding from the sky people, am l? You tree swing-
- Ao’nung! Tsireya snapped, her patience fraying. She cast Lorre an apologetic look, but Lorre didn’t back down, her eyes narrowing at Ao’nung.
Next to them, Loak, Neteyam, and Kiri listened to them, exchanging awkward looks.
Lorre’s gaze flickered to the others, all watching the exchange between her and Ao’nung. She swallowed hard, adjusting her position and forcing herself to focus.
Slowly, she uncrossed her legs, settling into the sand with a bit more purpose. She closed her eyes, trying to block out their stares and the lingering tension in the air.
Inhale, stomach, hold… she repeated silently, willing her body to relax as she tried to ignore the lingering stares. Slowly, the tension eased, and the others seemed to turn their attention back to their own practice. Tsireya’s calm voice filtered through the background again, instructing them, grounding the group in the lesson.
Lorre exhaled, feeling the moment pass, though her pulse still beat a little too fast. She could sense Ao’nung’s presence beside her, but forced herself to focus on her breathing, trying to shake off the tension she felt
- You’re doing it wrong.
Lorre sighed deeply, frustration etched on her face as she slowly opened her eyes. - What?
Kiri, watching from the sidelines, rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath, - Here we go again…
Ao’nung’s smirk was barely concealed as he stepped closer, his presence looming. - The breathing—you’re inflating your chest instead of your stomach. Let me show you. Without waiting for a response, he moved in and placed his hands on her stomach—one hand low, just above her abdomen, the other slightly higher, near her ribs.
Lorre’s breath hitched at the sudden proximity. The warmth of his touch seeped through her “clothes”, an unexpected sensation that made her feel uneasy.
As she inhaled, her shoulders rose despite her efforts to remain still. Ao’nung’s hands shifted, one of his fingers lightly grazing her top before settling firmly but gently on her shoulders. His touch was oddly comforting, a stark contrast to his usual taunts
- Don’t move your shoulders Ao’nung instructed, - Try again.
Lorre bristled at the unintentional comfort from his touch but focused on her breathing. She took another deep breath, her stomach expanding as he had instructed. She could feel her lungs straining, and the warmth of his hands seemed to both soothe and intensify her frustration.
- Good, now hold it Ao’nung said, his hands still resting lightly on her shoulders. His usual smirk had faded, replaced with a more focused look
Loak, Neteyam, and Kiri watched them, their attention caught by the unusual interaction. Neteyam raised an eyebrow, leaning slightly toward Loak, who just shrugged his shoulders
Lorre’s lungs felt like they were on fire as she held her breath, the strain evident in her tense posture. When she finally exhaled, the relief was almost palpable. She opened her eyes, meeting Ao’nung’s gaze. His calm expression was infuriatingly composed, almost smug.
-That was better, he said with a teasing grin. - Though you still need more practice. Try not to get distracted by my ‘expert’ guidance next time.
Lorre shot him a sharp sidelong glance. - I’d do better if you weren’t constantly making it harder to focus
Ao’nung raised an non-existent eyebrow, - Oh, so I’m distracting you? How exactly?
Lorre’s mind momentarily went blank, the sharp retort she had been preparing faltering under the intensity of his gaze. His smile grew wider, clearly enjoying the effect he had on her
Tsireya stepped in, sensing the rising tension and trying to defuse the situation before they get any more ideas for insults. - Alright, enough arguing. Let’s focus on getting everyone’s breathing right.
────────
- Lorre, you said you’ll do it!
- I never said such a thing. You're making things up, Neteyam.
Lorre giggled, clearly remembering their agreement from the day before. She had promised to look after Tuk after training, so Neteyam could concentrate on his rite of passage without any interruptions.
- Lorre, I swear by Eywa, if I— Neteyam’s threat was cut off as Kiri’s urgent shout pierced the air.
- Leave us alone!
Lorre and Neteyam exchanged puzzled looks before moving toward the beach. They found Kiri, Loak. Around them were Aonung and his friends.
Neteyam stepped forward, shoving Aonung away from Loak with a hard stare. - You heard her. Leave them alone he said, pushing Aonung again for emphasis.
One of Aonung’s friends tried to intervene, - Ah, Big brother, come on— but was cut off when Aonung sharply raised his hand.
- From now on, you will respect my sister. Neteyam said, his voice cold as he glanced at Ao’nung’s friends.
Aonung’s smirk crept back as he stepped away, raising his hands in mock surrender.
- Smart choice. Neteyam muttered, glancing toward his siblings before looking at Lorre. He gave a slight tilt of his head, signaling it was time to go.
Lorre pressed her lips together, gently guiding Kiri away with a hand on her back. Her ears twitched when she overheard one of Aonung’s friends mutter an insult. She turned, noticing Loak had also heard the word "freak" aimed at his family. Lorre hurried toward him, trying to stop him before he could react—but it was too late.
- I’ve got this Loak said, stepping forward to Ao’nung
Neteyam and Lorre exchanged uneasy glances. If they knew anything about Loak, and they did, he definitely did not ‘got this’.
- I know, this hand looks funny, right? Look, I'm a freak. Lo'ak said, flexing his hand, showing off his five fingers. Aonung sneered, tilting his head with that same smug grin that had been taunting them all day. - But it can do something cool. First, I ball it up real tight, like this. And then-
Before anyone could react, Lo'ak swung, his fist connecting squarely with Aonung's face. The impact was loud and brutal.
Lorre gasped, then burst into laughter, the sound cutting through the shocked silence. Neteyam shot her a look, but she couldn't help it, especially with the way Aonung's shocked face twisted as he fell into the sand, blood trickling from his nose.
- It's called a punch, bitch. Lo'ak snarled, standing over him. - Don't ever bother my sister again.
Aonung hissed in fury, leaping at Lo'ak and tackling him to the ground. The fight escalated fast, but Lo'ak wasn't backing down. Even as Aonung slammed him into the dirt, and his friends closed in, Lo'ak kept fighting, refusing to give in.
- Do something! Kiri yelled over the chaos, but her voice was drowned out by the sounds of the fight.
Neteyam stood back for a moment, a small, almost amused smile tugging at his lips. He glanced at Lorre and gave a shrug before finally stepping in, yanking one of the boys off Lo'ak with little effort.
- You’re not seriously— Kiri began, but her words were cut off as Lorre suddenly lunged, tackling Aonung away from Lo'ak, sending him stumbling to the ground.
Aonung groaned, while Lo'ak's incredulous laughter rang out in the background. The fight seemed to pause for a second, but then everything shifted.
Without warning, Lorre felt a sharp sting across her face. She raised her hand to her cheek, stunned as she turned slowly, realizing she’d been slapped—by a tail. The impact still tingled on her skin, and she faced the one who’d done it.
The beach fell into silence. Everyone froze. Aonung was staring at his friend, his expression a mix of fury and disbelief, as if he couldn’t believe what had just happened.
- Okay, that’s it. Lo'ak growled, stepping forward and landing a brutal punch on the boy who had slapped Lorre. The hit sent the boy crashing to the ground, Lo'ak following up with a hard kick, sending him sprawling into the sand.
- Lorre, are you— Someone called out from behind, trying to check on her, but their words were swallowed by the forceful entrance of Jake Sully.
- Enough! Jake’s yell cut through the commotion. His irritation was palpable, his ears pinned back and his tail whipping in agitation. He stormed toward his sons, grabbing them by the scruffs of their necks and pulling them away from the chaos. He signaled sharply for Lorre and Kiri to follow him.
Lorre, her smile still in place, turned back to the group and gave them a mocking wave, savoring the moment. As she walked away, she noticed Aonung giving the same boy who had slapped her a sharp smack to the back of the head.
