Reupdating my Yu-Gi-Oh Headcanons list

All my headcanons are from the Duel Monsters portion of the series, most of which are influenced by the anime and personal thoughts and ideas.

Atem has a thing for anything strawberry. Strawberry drinks, baked goods, artisan goods, you name it. If it's got strawberry, Atem will almost certainly eat it. Even as Yami, he would take over Yugi's body sometimes to enjoy strawberry flavors(Yugi thought it was silly but also was happy Yami had something he liked)

Of course, my headcanon of Kaiba treating Yugi like a second little brother after Atem departs. Seriously, Yugi becoming an unofficial Kaiba brother because of Seto's love for Atem and feeling bad that Yugi doesn't have his own big brother now is something that feeds me life.

Atem's last name is Sennen. His full name is Atem Yami Sennen

Kaiba's full name is Seto Ryuuki Kaiba. Sometimes Atem calls Seto by his middle name, and Seto loves how whispery and velvety Atem says it.

Kaiba and Mokuba's birth surname is Konami. Their parents names were Sara and Akira(called Aki for short)

Kaiba and Atem are 100% gay and demi, Yugi is bisexual and nonbinary(goes by he/they pronouns)

Kaiba and Atem are both intersex, Kaiba's intersex biology allows for childbearing, but it's not something he likes to think about or really wants, as pregnancy means a loss of control over his own body, and Kaiba can't imagine not having control.

Atem eventually returns through magic nonsense and everyone is overjoyed to have him back (Yugi and Kaiba especially, for their own reasons)

Kaiba has a cat. Her name is Zahra and he adopts her from a shelter not long after the Ceremonial Duel, telling Mokuba things are feeling a bit lonely and maybe a pet would help make their home a little less empty. Despite his cold exterior, Kaiba loves animals and would adopt every single one from every shelter in the world if he could.

Atem loves cats and hits it off with Zahra(Kaiba doesn't like that he's no longer her favorite person but Atem spoils her as much as he does so he supposes its fine), and for some reason, strays gravitate towards him and he occasionally comes home with a new cat in his arms, announcing. "Ryuuki, another one chose me!", and Kaiba just goes with it, loving how the mansion staff are now always kept on their toes by the MANY cats now running amok.

Kaiba's favorite of Atem's little cat herd(also called a clutter) is Luna, a pretty tortoiseshell with golden eyes and dainty white paws. She gets attached to him rather than Atem(much to Kaiba's delight)

Later down the line, Kaiba finds an abandoned corgi puppy. Unable to ignore the creature, he takes her home to Atem and their many cats. They name her Duchess as she quickly becomes a spoiled pup.

Yugi and Marik are a couple. I just think they're cute together. They'd eventually have a son(Kaiba helps them create their son by taking Yugi and Marik's DNA and making the baby in a tube in his lab. Because I'm absolutely certain Kaiba could do that sort of thing if he tried) and name him Atemu, after Atem. Because Yugi just loves his brother so much. (cue Uncle Atem shedding tears of joy), and when Atemu is 2, they have twins; a son and daughter named Toki and Tera.

Atem and Kaiba get married and Atem 100% is in charge of wedding planning cause he has better tastes than Kaiba when it comes to this sort of thing. And Atem convinces Seto to let him wear a dress for the wedding. Kaiba becomes Seto Kaiba-Sennen.

Kaiba and Atem eventually have twins unplanned, a daughter named Kaida and a son named Yami, both taking Atem's last name of Sennen. The pregnancy is full of complications for Kaiba due to his unique situation, and the changes to his body cause a lot of dysphoria, but Atem is always there for him when things get rough, knowing that Seto can get through this with the strength and grace he applies daily.

Joey becomes a KC Security Officer because he's "A good guard dog", according to Kaiba.

Tea becomes a successful dancer on Broadway, landing many lead roles. Yugi and friends are glad to see her follow her dreams, and occasionally, Kaiba will sponsor musicals and plays that Tea is in, his way of showing his friendship.

Tristan opens a martial arts and self defense studio, wanting to teach others how to protect themselves and the ones they care about.

Bakura begins to work for the museum, and always manages to rope Atem into helping during his free time, as Atem WAS an ancient Pharaoh.

Atem works graphic design for Kaiba Corp (he's a surprisingly good artist)

Yugi works at Kaiba Corp for the game development division. Sometimes he brings Atemu and Toki into the office with him, and he tries to coordinate dates where Kaida and Yami are brought in when Seto and Atem come to work so their kids can bond with each other. (Yugi wants his sons to have a deep connection with their cousins asap.)

Atemu looks a lot like his namesake uncle, thanks to the combo of Yugi's hair and Marik's complexion, but his eyes are Marik's lavender. Toki and Tera are pale like Yugi with soft, sandy-colored hair like Marik, and Yugi's amethyst eyes.

Kaida looks a lot like her father Atem, bearing his tri-tone hair, although the ends of hers are blue instead of red, she bears his darker complexion, and the shape of her eyes is quite similar to his. She gets Seto's blue eyes. Yami, however, is a mini Seto Kaiba with Atem's purple eyes. (the little guy has already mastered the 'Kaiba scowl')

Later down the line, Atem and Kaiba have two more kids. Ryuuki and Sara. Both kids have Atem's dark complexion. Sara's hair is black and wavy and she has Kaiba's blue eyes. Ryuuki, however, much like his brother Yami, has Kaiba's brown hair and Atem's amethyst eyes.

Mokuba absolutely adores his nieces and nephews, being sure to talk about them to anyone who will listen(or is forced to). He also spoils them whenever he can, wanting to give Kaida, Sara, Ryuuki and Yami the whole world, wanting them to have a childhood full of certainty and light, unlike what he and Seto had. Uncle Mokuba ftw.

Kaiba rebrands Kaiba Corporation to Sennen Corporation.

Joey eventually finds a nice girl and hooks up with her, and Atem, being a former Pharaoh, officiates Joey's wedding.

Joey soon becomes a dad, having four kids. Jack, Jana, Kaden, and Jacob. The little ones are a handful, having Joey's spirit and knack for trouble. And Kaiba says "Wheeler, the world had enough of you, why'd you add four more?" the first time he meets the kids. However is is quite fond of them, as his children have friends to grow up with.

✨Thoughts from the shadows✨

Again me! And again with the headcanon wagon! This time, I want to share my thoughts on the games that the characters of Yu-Gi-Oh would play.

I'll start with Yugi and Atem. Based on their specifics and tastes, I think they would like card games, or strategies. They understand them so well that they could easily break into the esports league. Until that time, they had been developing their tactics behind the board games that were in Sugoroku's store.

Games: Hearthstone, StarCraft, Inscryption

Next - Jounouchi and Honda. My guess is that they have been playing games since the days when computer clubs appeared. These are mostly popular games of the present time, where cooperation and teamwork are appreciated. Together they develop tactics, and even know the loopholes in the games. They mostly play shooters.

Games: Call of Duty, Counter Strike, Quake champions, Fortnite

Anzu almost does not play with friends, because of the weak computer. Jonochi or Yugi let her play in the computer club, but she didn't like the genre of games they played. But she had no equal in dancing games. To do this, she goes to an arcade club or plays on Jonochie's console.

Games: DanceDance Revolution, Just dance, Dancerush

Kaiba has a huge potential in strategies. Coming to the computer club, everyone understands one thing: "the master of strategies has come." He has been participating in the esports league for longer than Yuga, and has extensive experience. But every time he goes into a game against him, he loses with a 50/50 chance.

Game: Heart's of Iron, Cilivisation, Red alert, Heroes of might and magic

Ryo plays almost the same game as Yugi and Jonochi. But his personality has a different opinion. Yami Bakura loves games where the atmosphere is gloomy, scary monsters and just moments when the aesthetics of the area puts pressure on you. Re is also not against scary games, but he rarely plays them.

Games: Outlast, Silent Hill, Clocktower, Phasmophobia

This comrade is the very embodiment of cruelty. And he will tell you 1 out of 1000 ways to make the victim scream. Give him games, with an abundance of cruelty, and even dark ones that almost cross the line. He doesn't have a chance to play these games at home, but there's Bakura and his friends, right? He is not allowed into computer clubs because he scares visitors with his laughter and muttering.

Game: Postal 2, Manhunt, Hotline Miami, Dead by Daylight.

I'm sending you butterflyshipping for your ask game.

For this ask meme, and y'all are welcome to submit an ask if you'd like, I love to spout headcanons about ships.

You know, I feel silly for not seeing this one coming lol. And hey, fun fact: the only reason I wrote a butterflyshipping fic in the first place, aside from being inspired by that one other fic, is the name. I just really like butterflies lol. And at the time, I was growing my writing muscles by just writing every ship that even slightly intrigued me.

Good for you for getting me to talk about the ladies that I ignore most of the time. It's not that I don't like them, they're just not high on my list compared to other characters.

Gives nose/forehead kisses

Mai gives it to both of them because she loves the cute faces they make. Ryou really loves receiving them. Mai makes a pretty cute face herself when Ryou leans over and gives her head a peck.

Gets jealous the most

Anzu has a very jealous personality, so I'd have to say her, but if Ryou ever got jealous, it would be a sad kind of jealous that makes him ball up in insecurity.

Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive

Ryou doesn't like driving, it makes him anxious, but he's not big on drinking and the ladies are, especially out with friends, so that leaves him as the designated driver. He drives Mai's car and always makes them both sit in the backseat.

Takes care of on sick days

Ryou mostly does this, partly because he was so alone for most of his life and always wished he'd had someone to take care of him, but when he's the one that's sick, Anzu is the one taking care of him. Mai is supportive, just not the caretaking type.

Drags the other person out into the water on beach day

Ryou is the one getting dragged, after he's got two coats of sunscreen on him. I would say Anzu would be dragging him alongside Mai, but in the beach/pool episode of Season Zero she didn't want to get in the water either, so I think Mai is dragging them both in, even if it's just the shallows.

Gives unprompted massages

Mai, and Anzu to a lesser degree. Mai is very touchy, and sometimes she startles Ryou with the unsolicited/unexpected touches, and he'll say something if it's ever a problem.

Drives/rides shotgun

Mai drives, Anzu rides shotgun, Ryou is occupied in the backseat with his happy meal.

Brings the other lunch at work

I've explained my "Ryou doesn't cook" headcanons elsewhere, and I can't imagine Mai can either (mainly cause she didn't have to) so that leaves Anzu as the one saying "you remembered to bring lunch to work today right? You didn't??? Hold on, I'll be there in 40 minutes."

Has the better parental relationship

Anzu has a normal relationship with her parents while Ryou's are dead/MIA and Mai's were distant and detached.

Tries to start role-playing in bed

Mai is bold, no fear and no insecurity. Ryou is easily embarrassed, Anzu goes along with it sometimes.

Embarrassingly drunk dancer

ALL OF THEM. If Ryou has had enough to drink that he starts dancing though, it doesn't last long before he passes out or collapses. Anzu cannot stand fucking still, she will just be constantly jiving to the music in her own mind. Mai is the least embarrassing about it, but it's still a bit not-quite-what-she-would-normally-do.

Still cries watching Titanic

Ryou and Anzu the most, but all of them really, depends on the day. If Mai and Anzu are PMSing and turn it on, Ryou will cry with them because he can't help it, he's too empathetic.

Firmly believes in couples costumes

Mai mostly, but Anzu has a lot of fun with it too. One time they dressed up as a devil/angel/reaper for Halloween, and even though both ladies wanted Ryou to be the angel, he insisted on being the reaper or else he wouldn't participate. So Ryou was the reaper, Anzu was the angel, and Mai was the devil.

Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas

As the one with the most money, Mai does often. It makes Ryou feel bad though, so cause of that she tries to follow the rule.

Makes the other eat breakfast

ANZU. She's the absolute mom in the relationship, if that makes sense. Mai is like, "I've got a latte, that IS my breakfast" and Ryou's like "I'll eat an hot pocket at lunch, I'll be fine until then" and Anzu is like "No! Three meals a day! Sit down and eat!"

Remembers anniversaries

All of them are actually really good about this, and the only surprises are the presents themselves. They start talking plans months in advance, and sometimes they go on little trips

Brings up having kids

Anzu, because she wants them the most, and then Mai suggests they try to get pregnant at the same time so they can go through it together, and just the idea of that gives Ryou a nervous breakdown, so they both backpedal like, "It's okay sweetie, it's not happening right now, it was just a suggestion." Ryou is absolutely going to be a stay-at-home dad though. He will be there for every second of his kids' lives. Meanwhile, Mai is the "wait right here kiddos, Mommy needs to go teach this man a lesson" parent.

BONUS HEADCANON

All three of them have Marik trauma, so no, he's not invited to the wedding. Anzu was possessed and had her life threatened by him, Mai got her soul stolen by him which resulted in traumatic psychological torture, and Ryou was stabbed thanks to him in addition to the possession and the time he spent in the Shadow Realm.

Though she is not an active Duel Monsters player, she does still have a deck that Yuugi helped her put together. She specializes in Spellcasters and Fairies.

Dark Magician Girl is her Ace monster.

When moving to New York she tried to do various jobs before settling on the bar she currently works at as a waitress/'entertainer'. Some of her earlier jobs included fast food, receptionist, and an 'actor' at a local laser tag.

She will occasionally video call with the old gang and sometimes play duel monsters over said calls. Jonouchi can't beat her.

Anzu has a perfect win streak and even she isn't sure how she keeps winning despite admitting she's not very good at the game. (Most of these wins consist of getting a perfect hand on the first turn, luck of the draw, or somehow randomly having Exodia)

She is enrolled in a dance school and has learned many forms of dance, including clogging, Irish, ballroom, ballet, and the pole (*cough*learned from watching videos*cough*).

Téa Gardner is her stage name

She's adept at cosplay and has made a few costumes, including Dark Magician Girl, Magician of Faith, and Witch of the Black Forest.

She recognizes that she has made some incredibly stupid decisions in the past, chief among them being LETTING HERSELF BE A HOSTAGE FOR A BOMBER JUST TO GET THE PHARAOH'S ATTENTION! Yeah, she's never living that down.

OKAY OKAY OKAY... Let's get it on!!!! (ty for this lol) Sorry my first part of this is just propaganda for them then I'll do headcanons <3.

So the first thing here that I find fascinating is that despite the fact we get to see Ryou and Atem interact very little in canon, what we do see establishes that Atem is very very very worried about Ryou and genuinely does want to take care of him (see: the shadow duel between yb and yy on the KaibaCorp blimp aftermath). Also bonus fact: Atem cradles Ryou after the fight in the exact same way Anzu (who expresses a canonical romantic and at least very strong platonic interest in Atem) does with him a few hours later with Yami Marik's shadow game, so take from that what you will.

Second of all, as I have mentioned before, I do think they would have this interesting dynamic where Ryou really wants A) a fantasy world, B) a lack of responsibility, and C) someone to be his friend for Ever and Ever (said slightly threateningly), and Atem A) is basically a fantasy trope come to life that promises Grand Adventure, B) is willing to take responsibility for Literally Anything ever, including things that are not his fault, and C) wants to take care of all his friends and collects people who like him like keychain charms. So already you have that particular dynamic with potential for chemistry going on, and it could either go Bad (mutually destructive flaws that they mistake for working well together), Good (helps pull each other out of their respectively Very Bad situations), or a secret third thing (lifelong mutual obsession that keeps them alive and well but also very codependent.) Lots of stuff going on there already.

But I digress, you wanted headcanons. So!

It did Not start with the rescue romance fantasy on Ryou's part. Ryou was very grateful and all for the help Yami Yugi provided with the whole "killer monster world" thing, but ultimately considered it a group effort on the part of his new friends.

By contrast it Absolutely started with the rescue romance fantasy with Atem. He did not realize it at the time because he is Out Of Touch with his emotions but it most certainly started with seeing someone so very much like his dear partner stuck in a terrible situation that he really wants to help with but can't stay to monitor all the time. However it did not progress further until:

Ryou got interested when he heard/figured out Atem was a ghost/spirit. You mean there are Other Ghosts in the world? That do not try to make my life miserable and call me a loser when I'm trying to do my homework? Thats so cool!

I think in contrast to Yugi - who considers Atem's more "creepy" qualities useful but also slightly worrying - and most of his other friends - who consider these qualities actively disturbing and try to ignore them (Anzu "Shadow Games are hot" Mazaki notwithstanding) - Ryou is very much Into It. He is obsessed with how shadow games work. What do you mean you can just summon psychic fire out of thin air but only if the game demands it??? Thats amazing. Do you want to get married (said in that characteristically Ambiguously Joking Ryou voice)

So it is also a very new feeling to Atem of not having to worry about showing off those qualities, and you know, it's kind of nice to have someone appreciate your more freaky qualities! But also he is simultaneously repressing them around Ryou because they remind him of how uncomfortably close he seems to acting like the Spirit of the Ring at times, which then adds another layer of Worry onto his relationship to Ryou

Anyways Ryou is constantly playing Supernatural (Deconstructed Mix) by kesha in the bg whenever Atem is there

Atem is Panicking and Dying to try and figure out how to send a gift that sufficiently states "Sorry I had to Run Your Body Over With the Power of God Do You Still Like Me" without seeming too desperate

Ryou is obsessed with the mysterious demon and doesn't know the mysterious demon is actually his guardian angel

I think Atem is willing to sit through So Many bad horror movies for Ryou's sake but he does actually really love Monster World

They are going on a dinner date where Ryou introduces Atem to all the pastries he missed out on since Ancient Egyptian times, including that wonderful concoction known as chocolate

Third part on my Yu-gi-oh 10 Years Later AU (Part one and two here)! This is my last one for now, but i might make more if I have some new ideas! Some headcanons about their lives at the moments now:

Ryou Bakura:

I imagine that after all the stress and frustration with being cursed by an ancient spirit in his body and having to still finish school after that he would just want to relax and not worry for a little while; that made him look more like a washed-up nerd than the prettyboy he was in high school, but (unfortunatly for him) he still got a big number of girls and guys interested in him somehow.

Since he never mentions in DSOD what he wants to do after school, I imagine he's that kind of person that studies and tries a bunch of different things since he's unsure of what to do. Right now he's unemployed, but he's studying game design after dropping out of 6 different courses; don't worry too much about him, his father's rich and he's enjoying a lot trying all these things out.

Hiroto Honda/Tristan Taylor:

After he had to work in his father's factory for a little while, he finally went and got to work on something that interests him! Seeing how there are quite a few moments in the series with him doing and showing interest on things related to mechanical stuff, i think he would like to work with machines, fixing motorcycles, stuff like that.

That also made him RIPPED AF, something that makes him feel proud of himself and also a little shy. Jou likes to tease him a little about it, but he's honestly very impressed about it.

His life isn't that exciting outside of that, but he's pretty happy anyway. He goes out with his friends a lot, sometimes helps Yugi (and Kaiba too even if he won't admit it) with the more technical part of creating games, tries going on dates but usually they don't end very well, and takes care of his bratty cousin, who's a preteen now.

Anzu Mazaki/Tea Gardner:

She has been living in the USA for a decade now, and has had a very nice experience overall, even if in the beginning there was some cultural shock and a little of difficulty making new friends, since she missed her friends from Domino a lot.

She is famous now! She has acted in a lot of different plays over the years, beginning as a background dancer and moving into the main star of some shows, including a Duel Monsters show where she was the Dark Magician Girl, and is very beloved by boh theater nerds and DM fans (meaning most people, since... this is the Yugioh world). Unfortunatly, that means she doesn't get a lot of free time, but she does her best to enjoy every second she gets to do her own stuff.

She does miss her friends a lot, but does her best to always find ways to contect them, like chosing specific tours that go to Japan, trying to go back there on most holiday breaks she gets, and also calling them almost every time she gets a chance.

It’s been a long time since I did a request here on tumblr (and it was on other blogs) so I hope I’m not too rusty! Also, sorry it took a bit to get these out, the last three week I’ve not had a full day off from work. Anywho, I loved how unique your request was and I hope I did some of your faves! :D

Atem: 

Thinks it’s endearing. Like seriously he can’t help but to smile when you get lost or admit that you did. Little things like that make him appreciate normal things. May sound weird but considering how crazy his life is, a tiny, normal, cute flaw like that just makes him smile for some reason.

He doesn’t mind you being dependant on him in any way (he actually kind of loves it. shhh don’t tell him I told you that) and certainly doesn’t mind having to lead the way when you two are out and about or whatever. 

Let’s say you two get lost while walking around town, he’d just smile, take your hand, and start leading the way back home. He’s used to having to keep track of everything at all times so he’ll easily remember where you need to go.

If you ever acted self-conscious about it or beat yourself up about your lack of direction he’d brush his fingers across your cheek and say it doesn’t matter, he’ll be your compass whenever you need him. (Yeah, under that cool guy act, Atem is actually just a cheesy nerd okay) 

Yugi:

Is actually only, like, a smidgen better than you when it comes to directions. Surprising, considering he’s so intelligent and amazing at strategy, but that’s different and he gets lost quite often if it’s not someplace familiar. 

Both of you get lost all the time. A new mega mall opens up? Where the heck is that map with the ‘you are here’ dot!? What do you mean we ended up on the third floor on the opposite side we came in without realizing it!?

The only thing that makes Yugi better is that if he knows there’s a high chance of you two getting lost, he can pay careful attention to where you go and can retrace steps with little errors if needed. But, most of the time he gets lost in talking to you, or his own thoughts and that’s how he loses where he is.

He won’t tease or make fun of you for it, he’ll just say something like “It’s okay! We can find our way together! We’ll be back home in no time, just you wait! :D” and you two will work together to get back on track~

Jonouchi/Joey:

Endless teasing, but like, in a “look at my cute s/o, gettin’ lost all the time!” kind of way. He thinks it’s cute. He doesn’t mean anything hurtful by it, he just thinks how helpless you are is adorable and will poke fun at you with that silly grin on his face.

Plot twist: He’s worse than you when it comes to directions.

He’ll try to take the lead when you two get lost, saying something stupid like “Don’t cha worry, Jonouchi’s got you covered! We’ll be outta here in no time!” But then he just gets you MORE LOST. Like how? How does he even do that? 

Worst part is that the longer you’re lost, the more stubborn and in-denial he’ll get. Don’t tell him you’re more lost than before, he’ll just scoop you up in his arms and tell you to trust him while loudly denying everything. What a dang mess.

Anzu/Tea:

Similar to like Atem. She’ll find it endearing, but will be more playful with this knowledge.

Like, when you admit you don’t know where you are, she’ll roll her eyes in a playful way, link her arm with yours and say “Come on, I’ll get us where we need to go. Gosh, good thing you’re with me huh?” then wink and stick her tongue out at you before giggling.

She honestly doesn’t see it as a big deal, but can’t help but to like how it lets her take charge sometimes. She doesn’t get to take that role often (unless she’s wrangling Jonouchi and Honda) and likes to show that she can be depended on for more than just cheerleading. 

After an ordeal where you two got lost, she might take one more teasing remark about it, but then will boop you on the nose and say it just balances you two out, both of you have your strengths after all.  

Seto:

Finds it annoying at first. He’ll roll his eyes at you, but unlike Anzu, it’s not in a playful way. He’d even make comments about how helpless you are without him.

Surprisingly though, that attitude doesn’t last long. After a while, he’ll start liking how he can show off by taking charge of these situations. He’ll still make comments about how you need him even for little things, but now it’s with this sly smirk that, depending on how you take his comments, can either be sexy or infuriating.

If you get pouty about how he acts or what he says, he’ll actually pat you on the head and say something that’s simultaneously comforting and annoyed like “Stop pouting, it’s only a big deal if you make it a big deal. That being said, I expect a ‘thank you’ when we get home, seeing as how I’m getting us out of this mess.”

 He’ll never admit it, not in a million years or on his death bed, but he likes your helpless moments. Sure it’s kind of annoying, but, well, he’s going to take a little pride in how he has to take care of you in those moments.

I've said before that I think, had atem stayed, anzu would have ended up being his best friend instead of jonouchi, partly because jonouchi is first and foremost yugi's best friend. but you know why else I think that?

anzu is, consistently, the first and sometimes only person to really acknowledge atem as his own person. she was the first of yugi's friends to realize there was another personality living inside yugi. then she was the first of their friends to realize he was a separate soul entirely, and not just an alternate personality. she was the one who valued his real name and identity so much that she bought the cartouche so that he would never lose it again. and finally she was the first and most consistent user of his real name from the moment they learned it. anzu has always respected and understood that atem is atem, not just "the other yugi."

she was also the first to support atem in his own, individual wants and dreams separate from yugi himself. and she did that for him first, before even yugi could bear to consider that atem might want to do something that would cause them to separate. anzu recognizes right away that atem's insistence that he's "fine with things as they are" is a lie he's telling himself, and she is the first to encourage him to stop putting yugi's feelings first and to consider his own needs, his own desires.

so I think in a world where atem stays, anzu would continue doing so. anzu would be the one yelling at everybody for accidentally calling him "yugi", even if atem insists it's fine. anzu would be the one encouraging atem to do the things he wants to do with his new life, whatever that may be. anzu would be the one pushing him to continue separating his life from yugi's. she would also be the number one puzzleshipper (or any shipper for that matter) if you take the story in that direction, and yes I do say that despite knowing anzu's feelings for atem. she would swallow her pain and pride and put on a brave face for him, because his friendship matters so much more.

(I also headcanon that's something they'd eventually talk about and work through together but that's neither here nor there)

of course atem would always be close with jonouchi, that bond is very special. and his relationship with yugi transcends most conceptualizations of relationships as we think of them- they shared a heart, a mind, a body. they're partners and always would be in some way, whether you ship them romantically or not. but to my mind, in the traditional sense of the word, anzu would be his best friend. 100%.

YGO airport/plane travel headcanons because I haven't left my country in over a year and I yearn for the baggage claim

Kaiba: Only there because the BEWD jet needs maintenance. Has a fancy airport lounge membership. Cue those ridiculous airport buggies going 30mph (Mokuba loves them) Always in First Class for the leg room, because this guy needs it. CEO of airport fashion. TSA hates him. The duel disk has to go in a separate bin? *sighs* removes all 9 of his belts. Always in the same aisle as Mokuba. Likes to watch the live-flight tracker thingy on the seat-screen. Has a BEWD neck pillow.

Mokuba: Smells like cinnabon, because Kaiba bought him some while they were waiting at the terminal. Watches movies or sleeps. just generally having a good time. Has a very adorable neck pillow as well.

Atem: Still impressed that airplanes exist and work, but is quiet about it. Likes the little straw that comes with the snack-cart drink thingy. Sleeps for most of the flight and is the best kind of person to sit beside. Window seat for the win but starts to regret it halfway through the flight because there's no graceful way to climb over someone else's legs. Also likes to check the flight tracker.

Yuugi: A little worrisome but not too much, just responsibly so. Arrives early enough to have time to kill (aka bust out the deck) Always has his eye on the time and departures board. Packs pretty light. Brings something to do because he can't ever get decent sleep on flights. An aisle seat guy and he gets pretzels from the snack cart. Has thought about paying for the in-flight wifi before.

Anzu: Very pragmatic and probably weighs her luggage the day before so she doesn't have to waste time at the baggage kiosk. Her luggage is very neat, like Pinterest-board, travel influencer neat. Has a very stylish comfy travel outfit. Wearing her biggest clothes and shoes so they don't take up space. Window seat! During a flight she thinks about how she might be good at being a flight attendant, but knows she wouldn't give up any career over dance. Just a thought.

Jonouchi: Would never admit it out loud, but he's a little freaked out by flying and it would be one of the first times he's in a plane. No Yuugi, I'm not scared! *Mentally says prayers whenever there's turbulence* asks Honda if he's gonna eat his flight peanuts (hasn't even opened his yet) Packs light, concerningly so. He says it's enough so nyeh, whatever. Wore laced shoes to the airport and he makes a mental note to only wear slip-ons when travelling from now on. Thoroughly entertained by the mini seat screen.

I shared this with some of the discord chats I’m in but I cannot stop thinking about it so I’m gonna share this with y’all too.

So as some of y’all know, I big headcanon Yugi as trans and the other day I remembered reading a (supposedly) true story somewhere (I think it was tumblr??) about a trans guy using a public restroom and I just...

Yugi is on his period and has to use the bathroom at school, so obviously he goes to the men’s restroom and, thinking it’s empty, goes to take care of business.

Except it’s not empty.

So he’s sitting in the stall and opens up a pad (and for those who don’t know, that packaging is fucking loud) and Jou, who was in one of the far stalls the whole time, hears it and says, “Damn bro, it must be a helluva shit if ya brought snacks.”

AND I CAN’T FUCKING GET OVER THE IMAGE OF THAT BEING ONE OF THEIR FIRST INTERACTIONS

And afterwards Jou, who has zero experience with period products, starts offering to carry pads and tampons with him in case Yugi or anyone else runs out, especially since there’s no dispenser for those things in the men’s restroom.  So he goes and picks up some stuff on his way home and I 100% believe this would be his reaction:

Week of Revo Day 2

Day 2 of @week-of-revo has the prompts “History repeats itself” and “Casually stealing the other’s things”.  I don’t have any art for today, but on the subject of history I do have a concept to share.

Yugi and Téa take Atem to a lecture on Egyptian history, since he’s curious what all happened after him and he’s only gotten the vaguest ideas from Yugi’s memories.

At some point, the lecturer goes on a tangent about the Tablet of Lost Memories, since it would’ve been a big deal for it to turn up like it did, so it’s relevant to mention it, or maybe it’s an audience question after the main lecture is over.  And they talk about how the story the tablet tells is too obviously mythologized to take seriously as an actual account of things that happened (Like, dragons and wizards?  Come on, man.), but it’s still a valuable archeological find and we can glean insight into how the people who commissioned it wanted things to be perceived.

And then we cut to Atem, who is trying not to die of laughter while his girlfriend and boyfriend are desperately trying to keep this from becoming A Scene.
