You were blinking profusely, whereas Nikto hadn't even once.

Eyes puffy and pink, verging on red with the various capillaries spilling into his sceleras like rivers, his steel blue eyes scrutinised you.

Dilated pupils consumed the blue of his hues, and if it wasn't for how the light reflected off his eyeballs, it would have been easy to mistake the colour of his eyes as a deep, dark, black. Like a bottomless abyss. Or a void.

His eyes never strayed from yours, and he hadn't averted his gaze at any point.

Yours, however, were flickering. You were blinking profusely, willing yourself not to look away, focusing on his left eye, then the right, then the left and the right and the left, sights flitting from side to side, your eyebrows furrowed in concentration. Beads of sweat trailed down the side of your forehead.

Still. Not once did you look away.

It's been 3 minutes now — 3 minutes and 12 seconds exactly, according to the stopwatch on your phone — but it felt like centuries. An eternity.

To give credit where credit was due, Nikto had to praise you for your efforts.

Although he could by no means be able to communicate it directly, he would express his appreciation in another way. By making your life a little bit easier: now.

"Three minutes."

Ears teary from the strain, you hummed in acknowledgement, Adam's apple bobbing up and down as you swallowed awkwardly: "Uh-huh."

"That's enough."

"N-no! I said five minutes, so it's going to be five minutes!"

"Y/N..."

"No," you insisted in a hoarse voice, pleading nonverbally with your eyes, desperate to please him, not simply appease him. "Please."

"There are tears in your eyes."

"My eyes are dry... I need eye drops... but I'm okay! R-really—"

"—Come," he said, pausing the stopwatch at 3:38, already tugging your arm to pull you up. "I'll do it for you. You've done enough."

Finally, you tore your gaze away, ashamed, embarrassed, and feeling like you failed him.

"...I haven't."

"You have," he affirmed gruffly, and he afforded himself a ghost of a smile, since he knew that you'd miss the way that his eyes crinkled with your gaze fixed on the floor. "Last time it was 2:56. It's an improvement."

He rested a large paw on your shoulder, and squeezed gently.

"You should be proud. We are."

You should be watching Pit Babe! - A Brief Review

Saddens me to think how many people are missing out on a great show because they think it’s not worth more than a trash watch, if that.

I mean, realistically, is it the most amazing cinematic work of all time? No, not unless pretty-boy power bottoms with daddy issues are your thing, which in my case they are, so let's talk about Pit Babe!

Note: I've tried to keep the spoilers to a minimum, they're mainly in the tags and links so follow them at your own risk, you've been warned.

Honestly, Pit Babe is a pretty damn good show, especially if you A) pretend the Omegaverse factor doesn’t exist and take the show for what it is and B) you don't mind not knowing what's going on half the time, just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.

Overall, Pit Babe has got a good production value, a slightly absurd yet entertaining plot, a great choice of cast with amazing chemistry and pretty decent acting skills amongst the mix of seasoned actors and newbies.

For a totally biased fair and balanced review: There are some details that are left vague instead of being explained in depth or at all (yet), but that’s to be expected when you adapt a novel into a movie or series. It would get boring for the audience if the pace was interrupted to explain all those little details that we’re likely to find out along the way anyways (shout out to those who've watched the latest episode; finally!).

There are also some scenes that feel like they’re not as necessary and some background/plot devices that made a little more sense in the novel but I personally don’t feel like they detract too much from my viewing experience.

Babe (played by Pavel) and Charlie (played by Pooh) as the main leads do a really good job at shouldering a large percentage of screen time. Charlie comes across as happy-go-lucky, a bit clumsy/goofy, entirely fearless and a little naive, which is mostly true, but there's clearly more to him than that. Right from the start Babe is clearly someone guarded, detirmined and skilled at what he does (racing cars and having sex) and he has a very tight cirlce of people he trusts. There's a winning combo right there, quite tsundere/sunshine from the outside but definitely more breath the surface that gets exploded as they go.

Way (played by Nut) is Babe's best friend and racing companion, they've been racing together at Team X-Hunter for years but there's clearly more than friendship on the mind for Way, though the feelings appear to be one sided.

Alan (played by Sailub) is the owner of Team X-Hunter and an all-round cool Uncle (which the whole team call's him (despite barely being in his mid 30's). He's kind but firm, he cares for his team like they’re his family and it does seem as though they’re his only family.

And the rest of the cast consists primarily of:

Team X-Hunter:

Dean (played by Lee); a junior racer with slight douche vibes

North and Sonic (played by Michael and TopTen); everyone’s babies, they’re junior racers and content creators

Jeff (played by Pon); the newest member of the team, he’s a part time mechanic and full time conspicuous

Pete (played by Ping); the money guy Alan brings on board to sponsor the team

Team Red Racing (the rival team):

Winner (played by Pop); the guy who never seems to win against Babe

Kim (played by Benz); the new racer they hired to beat Babe

Tony (played by S Vorarit); Red Racing's newest benefactor and *shock horror* Babe's former foster father (try saying that ten times fast)

Kenta (played by Garfield); Tony's right hand man

Then, there’s the 🌶🔥🤯

I, personally, enjoy a little spice/heat in my shows. It’s not necessary for every show, of course, but I do think that when it serves a purpose to the story and it’s done well then it can be quite enjoyable and this cast/production team is doing it really well.

As I said, the chemistry between the cast really is amazing (both on and off the screen, if you're interested in that kind of thing) and although the spicy scenes aren’t nearly as abundant as they are in the novel, there are some really good ones. I decided to bite the bullet and binge read the novel over the past couple of weeks, I blame @pharawee’s breakdown posts for those sleepless nights, and it was worth it for me but not necessary for watching the series.

Lastly (as if this post isn't long winded enough as it is) there are a handful of things in this series that we don't see too often in BL's and make it worth watching even more:

It's got race cars, murder attempts, mafia influence and supernatural powers (at least half the characters have one).

There's no evil ex-lover out to get revenge or get back together with one of the mains (thank the BL gods).

It's got a Soft Top/Dominant Bottom dynamic where the title character is both super masc and a pretty princess.

And we can't forget, it is technically an Omegaverse series (or rather, it's Omegaverse-lite) which none of us saw coming!

Anywho, to conclude; yes, you should be watching Pit Babe. No, you don't have to read the novel to understand what's going on because none of us understand what the hell is going on at any given time. Charlie and Babe are fucking around and finding out, the rest of us are just long for the ride, Alan and Jeff are having a whole ass rom-com-drama in the corner, the babies are making their content and having a blast and the others aren't quite on the map yet (or are they? *wink, wink*), but I sure hope they will be soon!

Anti-Communism is something bred into Americans from the time we are children. We are taught how anything related to Stalin is automatically bad and anything involving the Soviet Union is inherently secretive and authoritarian.

This bias is so deeply ingrained, that, having finally after years of Marxist and Geopolitical study, I've finally reached a point where those little anti-Communist tropes and sound bites inserted into our political conversations catch my attention automatically.

Now this took a really long time to reach. Anti-Communism is so deeply ingrained in our society, so embedded in our information space, and this completely by design, that we don't notice it in our everyday lives. We're not meant to. We're meant to internalize these stereotypes until it affects every aspect of our political thinking.

And I'll give you an example of how even the most obscure media consumption can result in our exposure to anti-Communist propaganda.

So I'm watching one of these obscure science channels on YouTube, being interested in the science behind nuclear criticality. So in the first video, which is about a famous incident in which a Russian scientist was exposed to a particle beam in an accelerator that resulted in serious injury but he survived. And at the end of the video, they start talking about how he really suffered under that awful Soviet Bureaucracy when he was denied his free government healthcare in 1997. 🙄

I seriously face palmed on that one.

But then I'm watching an entirely different science video on an entirely different nuclear accident. This one the only fatal Nuclear reactor accident in American history.

So I get to the end of this video, they've done a great job at really helping you understand the science behind what triggered the accident, and I'm really satisfied with the video, and then, right at the end they throw this little tidbit of information out as though it too were a statement of fact:

[Speaking factually about the fatal design flaw responsible for the US accident in 1961 that was also present in the design of the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986]

"When we don't learn from history (deeply accusing stare at the Soviets) it tends to repeat itself"

Okay, so basically he has to throw in the insinuation that somehow the Communists are even more deeply responsible for Chernobyl than the Americans were for SL-1, the destroyed US nuclear reactor from 1961.

Now on its face, most people aren't going to think twice about such a statement. It is meant to evoke a response inside you of "ugh those Communists were just terrible to see our mistakes and repeat them anyway!" without ever giving any kind of critical nudge at the thought whatsoever. After all, we Americans all know how evil and awful Communists, and especially Russian Communists were.

And that's supposed to be the end of that. Two science videos, both ending with throw away lines of anti-Communist propaganda, both meant to leave me feeling superior as an American and especially an American Capitalist!

But the reality exposes the absurdity of American anti-Communist propaganda!

How would the Soviets have known about the US design flaw years earlier?

Am I just mistaken and it was common practice from the 1960's to the 1980's to share our nuclear trade secrets with our greatest adversary??? To share nuclear designs with the great evil empire the USSR at the height of the Cold War?

Please. How the fuck could the Soviets have known the details of the SL-1 design flaws?

But that's not even really the point, because in the end, it does not matter how ridiculous or absurd or counter factual US propaganda becomes because the public is just so deeply propagandized, so well trained, and so peppered with this kind of subliminal propaganda all day every day.

And it truly took years for me, not just to be able to recognize propaganda anyone can do that, but to really begin to understand the depth and nature of which we are being saturated in this constant stream of pro-Imperialist, pro-Capitalist, often conflicting narratives that are intended to make us accept without ever critically analyzing what "approved" sources tell us.

I cannot stress enough the importance and personal responsibility of every worker to educate yourself on the nature of advertising and propaganda and their relationship to Capitalism and Imperialism.

It is so important that we understand how Wall Street, the Big Banks, Big Investors and Big Corporate bosses, how they use the tools of the media and internet to control and maintain the information available to us and how they use that control to maintain the myths of Capitalism, Neoliberalism and an Imperialist Foreign Policy, as well as maintain the myths of "authoritarianism " and "human rights violations" maintained around US Adversaries like the Soviet Union and now Russia, Iran, Cuba, DPRK, Vietnam, China and on and on and on.

RL Story

The next day, before N. and I went to his Mom’s new place, we were visiting my Grandparents, where we also met my Parents & my Sister.

Once there, I noticed my mother’s smug look, looking at me, as if she was totally.... appalled. I knew my Mom would start to get upset about my outfit/dress. She thought that Nico & I would accompany her, my Dad & Ana, to a family party later. One of my Mom's Cousins invited us to her daughter’s engagement party. 🤮

Mom: Why are you dressed like that??... This dress is a bit-.... agh, I hat to nag, A., but it doesn’t fit you.

Nico (to me): You look perfect to me. Tell her you put the dress on for me. You don’t care about her opinion.

Me (to Mom): I don’t give a shit what you think about my dress! I like it! 💁‍♀️

Mom: Usually you never put on such.... dresses. And it’s cold outside, you’re pregnant!

Me: It's not winter yet! And N. loves my dress.😏... Besides, I’m not going to that party with you! I just came by to talk to Grams.

I wasn’t at that stupid family party. Sonja warned me about our other cousins. So I knew, everyone would ask me whose baby I'm carrying? (N. or D.) Like I don’t know, whose baby it is. 😒.... And between my parents and Nico, it’s gonna be pretty exhausting. N. slowly started to act like he used to, because my parents (Mom) annoyed him completely. Do you think Alex's transformation was totally contrived, considering it was basically boom after Alexa breakup? Do you think it was at least at 1st all stage persona, or still is & he really is basically 2006 Alex inside still (except more immature with his relationships!)? Do you think it is kind of a combo & he's kind of grown into a merging of the 2? The speaking voice is so much lower, slower & different (I don't think it's just from smoking & being in America). Like, do you think when he 1st wakes up in the morning old Alex is there & he remembers "oh yeah, I'm cool & macho now!" 😯🏍💪 Do you think he's a totally different person (old him), say, around his mum still? Do you think he consciously turns on & off multiple personalities, manner of speaking, big dick energy, etc. even in his personal life? 🤔🤯  Finally, do you think he'll ever be comfortable enough in his own skin (as a celebrity, anyway) to show us the real him or do you think we used to get the real him & it's never coming back/ he has irreversibly changed? We’ve already talked enough about the stage persona. Yes, the looks change with every album which I feel is normal for a musician who tries to make a lifelong career out of it and keep it interesting for themself and the audience. Why is everyone expecting Alex to be still like in 2006? Arctic Monkeys would not have a single fan left if they kept that up. The heartbreak might’ve just sped up the process. Alex is an introverted person but wanted to have that confident energy on stage. A lot of people (actors mainly) do that through outside changes (the looks) helping them to get to that inner attitude. The quiff helped Alex to become more confident which was necessary for the kind of album AM was. I think the stage persona helped him grow his own inherit self confidence over the years  and as he grew older which we then saw flourish in 2016. I don’t think that was a stage persona. That was Alex feeling free and being content with himself and his work. Alex might’ve not emotionally matured but I think he grew into his life so to speak. He accepted the circumstances and makes the best (in his opinion) out of it. That gave him confidence as well.

I won’t comment further on the voice than what I’ve already said before. It’s a natural evolution. You need to remember that we know him since he was 19. Some boys’s voices don’t break entirely until their early 20s. Plus as I’ve said before I think he had singing/breathing lessons at some point after Humbug. He learned how to utilise his voice better. If he really purposefully spoke with a lower voice constantly (he always talked slow) it would be ruined by now because his vocal cords would’ve quit on him. He’s hardly ever hoarse on tour even after many stops. This speaks of someone who takes care of their voice. I’ve seen Robert Sheehan in Richard III four weeks in and his voice was done at that point because he never had professional training in breathing techniques.

I don’t think he turns any personalities on or off. There’s “stage Alex” and then there’s “regular Alex”. A lot of artists have that especially introverted people like Bowie and others. It helps them deal with the pressure of performance where you have to be very extroverted to deliver, something that doesn’t come naturally to them. Not everyone can be a Miles Kane who thrives on stage. In all of this there’s always a bit of Alex. So we always get a bit of the “real” Alex. You just need to read between the lines. Sometimes it’s not all that deep and pretty straight forward.

Knowing that wh won't do anything he is required to... I will have to pay for quattro & appraiser. Of course he would drag things out. Of course. So no, it would not behoove me to get a rental & spend the only funds I have right now. But what I will do is spend wisely on round trip/ multi use containers, rather than on cardboard boxes. And get a Shipping container that I can use later on. Rather than waste money on pods rentals. Just have to find everything again. [I have done this research since 2013 multiple times.] And of course, wh has dragged it out so badly that the economy has tanked. Sigh. I detest evil. And...I have to ask for the time so he doesn't claim ownership of my belongings. So even though it's not optimal... I have to do this smartly.
