There was a post talking about how disappointing Disney+ Star Wars costumes have been..
and I keep thinking about it because when you look back at older tv shows (not just star wars, but basically anything before streaming really took over) and the effort that used to be put into production
you can really see how worth it that effort was! And I just miss it so much!
Like I literally do not care how bad the cgi looks as long as there was effort and care put into what was made.
This is coming from the fact that I am rewatching Once Upon A Time...
and even though OUAT's digital effects are kinda awful endearingly shitty, anything that was practical or real was GORGEOUS!
I’ve never seen costumes as consistently beautiful and detailed and unique as they were on this show Every! Single! Episode!
The makeup was always amazing. The hair was amazing. And the props were sick! (Even the green screen castles and stuff's designs were beautiful)
I just miss when tv shows put this much effort into their production
When they let artists! be ARTISTS! and actually appreciated them! Instead of just underpaying and overworking them for the bare minimum results
When you can look at stuff like OUAT and the star wars prequels, it just makes the recent stuff so much more disappointing
#we have proof of what could be possible if the people running things actually cared#there is no excuse for the laziness and it's just so frustrating#streaming has really ruined everything#there’s no more motivation to make things good anymore because the corporations and stuff will make money anyways#ahsoka could have looked so cool#and yet...#anyways that's my rant for now#at least zeb looked good in the mandalorian#star wars#star wars costumes#disney star wars#once upon a time#ouat#ouat rumple#ouat rewatch#ouat costumes#Ahsoka#zeb orrelios#the mandalorian#star wars prequels#kate's post

Since I found out steam does a year in review (I had no idea until this year) I have decided that I must play video games more and play every game in my steam library so that my year in review is 100% accurate next year and I don't get told that my top 2 games were Disco Elysium and Baldur's Gate 3 because I would Hyperfixate on one game for a whole month (or three) and play nothing else, and still have my genre graph have nothing to do with those two top games and instead have "cats" as a genre while calling me a fag
#simon says#I need to play more games anyways since I have like 80 games in my library but I have only played like... 30#so I'm already working on adding more games I would enjoy to my wishlist and installing games I've been wanting to play but haven't yet#i know the counter doesn't start until jan 1 but I'm having fun already#my spider graph needs to be SO much more accurate#I played ONE cats game and ONE cooking game and it said my most played genre is city builder??#bitch just because my third most played game is city skylines does not mean that's my main genre#i do lean towards simulators and puzzle games though#it's on the right track#but I don't think steam understands that my favorite games are games with beautiful and interesting art styles#games with wonderful narratives#and games where I get to own a funnie little shop and manage stuff#management should be my number 1 genre lmaooo#I do so many simulator games because they're just so fun like yeah I DO wanna make a little zoo or a little potion shop or a pizza place#i hate sales but I love doing it digitally where I get to just do the fun parts (making things and saying silly things)#and puzzle games. I'm a fuckn puzzle master#so yeah my goal is to play just... more games that I own and get more games that look fun#and also more rpgs. i need to play more rpgs#i am making an rpg I need to get some INSPIRATION#anyways that's my rant for now#I'm super sick right now so I don't have much to do besides eat sleep and game#I'm doing pretty well mentally though so I'm excited to feel better and start working on projects and whatnot soon#i also updated my icon recently#i changed my fursona#i will make a post about it later#I'm keeping the calico boy as an oc and also a sona of some sorts#so don't worry about Sock#but i wanted to be a tiger :3#i love tigers :3#also I got a book of dinosaurs so i wanna make a dinosona soon

#uh just a heads up if you expand the tags to see all there's. a lot. very long#amphibian#frog#poison dart frog#based on my most popular frog to date (day 651)#inspired by everyone pointing out what they think it looks like#here's a fun secret fact the original guy is actually a phantasmal poison dart frog (Epipedobates tricolor)#(according to the original artists title of the drawing)#not Anthony's poison arrow frog (Epipedobates anthonyi)#i feel too awkward to really point it out though because they look the exact same. i cannot tell if there is a difference#im half convinced the same frog was just discovered and named twice#its very curious btw if you go on the (english) wikipedia page for either species it doesn't mention the other#while hereptiles.info (no idea if this is a trustworthy site) lists both names as common names for the same frog (incorrectly??)#while inaturalist lists them as two different frogs. curiously with tricolor having wayyyyy fewer photos#ok anyway that's my rant i went on a whole journey trying to figure out if these are the same frog or not and i have no answer#i did some more 'research' and i am more confused. some sources seem to imply they are now considered the same species ( e. tricolor)#i think my conclusion is i am willing to agree the drawing looks more like e. anthonyi. it seems like tricolor is generally less vibrant re#and the white is darker and more green?#i feel like thumblr should stop me from typing more in the tags at this point this is a whole essay#at this point i am failry convinced this is specifically the Santa Isabel frog. isthat the real subspecies or morph or whatever#or just the name pet sites are using to sell it??#i even found some sources (frog selling websites) refering to it as “Epipedobates Anthonyi 'Santa Isabel' Phantasmal Poison Dart Frog” lol#Anyways if you read this far hi. species are confusing. i am not a frog scientist#the first few tags are like an hour old now i just kept trying to figure it out and adding more tags

New idea: Shinsou is supposed to be babysitting Eri but he has to do something so he leaves Denki in charge for a little bit, he comes back expecting the house to be burnt down but instead he finds Eri begging Kaminari to let her re-dirty up her room so they can clean it together again
#kaminari is good with kids i just know it#got this idea while listening to the Mary Poppins classic Spoonful of Sugar#he turns it into a game and she forgets its a chore#at one point he turns it into a race#“if you can clean your side of the room faster than i can clean my side ill get you icecream!”#she excitedly starts cleaning the room and once shes super focused he stops cleaning his side#he was gonna give her ice cream anyway#when she finishes her side he goes “great job! now help me finish my side and we can get some icecream!” and they both work on that side#hes a tricky guy#he may not do great in school but hes still VERY clever#then when theyre done he goes “Okay! I love prophecies and the battle of Bond of Choice versus Bond of Obligation.
#my thought process while I was drawing this: ->#The lamb & Narinder have a pre-designed bond as well as one of their choice. The pre-designed one binds them individually while the bond of#-Choice binds them as a Unit. Narinder's 'strings are constricting. He's literally chained by them. The Lamb's are looser but still binding#Also they're actually looking at each other here!!#anyway i hope you like the piece and the rant! i love thinking and giving the characters meaning and symbolism. its like playing with dolls#also the strings--im hoping--theyre sort of emulating narinder's chains in his domain. the ones hanging around#K thats it for now#Narinder#The Lamb#narilamb#the one who waits#OH WAIT. just saw someone on tiktok discussing whether or not a character "deserved a redemption arc" and i am losing my mind. we as a society have lost sight of what a redemption arc IS. it doesn't mean a character is rewarded by the narrative. it doesn't mean the other characters forgive them. it only refers to a character acknowledging their mistakes and choosing to better themselves, which any person can do, no matter how terrible. of course there's no shortage of badly executed redemption arcs, and a character who willfully committed countless atrocities having a change of heart after a single conversation about the power of friendship is simply poor writing and unrealistic. not every character who CAN change WILL. but there is zero value in debating whether a character "deserved" to be redeemed. no one in fiction or reality needs to be "worthy" of making better choices. there is no fixed point where a person is "too evil" and therefore forbidden from doing anything differently. it's always worth it to change, and implying otherwise is both a genuinely harmful ideology and bad literary analysis
#*heavy breathing*#me when i allow tiktok to make me upset#i must not care about tiktok media literacy. tiktok media literacy is the mind-killer.#tiktok media literacy is the little death that brings total obliteration-#anyway im calm and normal now#i stg this outburst has no correlation to my blorbo being a recovered mass murderer I SWEAR ON MY LIFE PLEASE-#tiktok#media literacy#literary analysis#rant post#redemption arc#vent. ig?#fuck it#ben linus#post isn't even about him but he's in my brain so..#writing#purity culture

ALSO if prisoners could get educated then prisons could run themselves more reliably and function like communities which is conducive to a growing/healing/learning/absolving mindset
#sorry i just have so many opinions on prison abolition thanks to being the child of a prisoner#former prisoner#tho prison basically ruined his life forever and now he's a crazy old man#what did he go to prison for?? a few things but most damning was when we has like 19-22 or something he stole a car to impress a girl#he also lit it on fire which I will admit is worse but#a 19 year old kid (who got kicked out at 16 mind you) just trying to impress a girl and he went to prison for basically his whole 20s#he did uh. he did actually allegedly escape at one point but my aunt turned him back in. snitch#anyway yeah#i was born when he was 34 and like a handful of years if not months out at most#i was an accident rebound baby but then he ended up being a single father lmfao#said it taught him more than prison ever could#if you read all these tags that turned into a rant have a cookie

the past couple of days i was doing a lot of stuff but mostly deep cleaning our house and something i noticed while listening to my mom's true crime videos was that you can rarely find a channel that doesn't add stupid fucking music to the background like it's a horror movie- or even more inappropriate cheerful music.
and that REALLY bothers me because these are people's REAL lives we're talking about here... when i watch true crime anything i have to go out of my way to find channels that don't sensationalize it or disrespect the victims in any way. recently, one of the channels i watch has started showing signs of leaning towards this kind of content, when previously they hadn't done so. and it's disappointing. i'm a big believer in music elevating a story but it just feels gross to put it here. or to keep doing moments like "but this horrifying secret will come to light later", etc etc
#true crime#i am a hater of the word “eerie” too now#because why are we using it every five seconds#you know you don't HAVE to put a bunch of adjectives here right#the actions that these people took are horrifying and “eerie” without you have to tell us#like yeah. yeah it is terrifying to know this person cut someone up#you don't have to tell us#tw true crime#just ranting because i had it on my mind#anyways watch “dreading psychology” on youtube if you're looking for someone that lays out the facts#the two people behind the channel do a great job#and they're always very respectful to the victims#they covered sarah boone's case#if you want a starting point#it's important to learn from true crime not make a spectacle out of it#being able to see the signs and protect yourself or your family or strangers or even the person you think is heading down a dark path#Boze vs the World on youtube as well#she's got a series called Sinister that talks about female killers#and while it's got production behind it she very much talks about these cases with respect to victims#and she delves into the lives of the killers without excusing their later actions

I was rereading bits of the Lay of Leithian over breakfast (like you do) and today it stood out that when Finrod is at his best in the battle with Sauron, it's when he brings in the dual visions of home: the home he has built in exile and the home of memory in Valinor:
The chanting swelled, Felagund fought, And all the magic and might he brought of Elvenesse into his words. Softly in the gloom they heard the birds Singing afar in Nargothrond, The sighing of the Sea beyond, Beyond the western world, on sand, On sand of pearls in Elvenland.
The Silmarillion: Chapter 19 "Of Beren and Lúthien" (emphasis mine)
But! While one of these is what we expect - Nargothrond, the home built of his longing and vision - the home in memory is not Tirion. It's Alqualondë, with its sand of pearls beside the sighing Sea.
In Finrod's moment of greatest trial, caught in a battle he knows he can never win, he sings a vision not of Tirion and its dynastic power, but of Alqualondë where Finarfin fled for peace and where presumably his son found the same.
Faced with a conflict of power, he reaches for peace.
And by doing this, he turns his immediate defeat into something hollow - while Sauron is said to have mastery here in their duel, it is Finrod who ultimately triumphs. For in the Leithian, the Release from Bondage, victory is achieved through sacrifice and not through power: Huan's sacrifice of loyalty and life, Beren's sacrifice of his body (Erchamion) and his life as well, and the overarching sacrifice of Lúthien's own life and fate, which both serves as their own personal triumph and lays the foundations for the victory and redemption of the Three Kindreds at the end of the Age. And Finrod's sacrifice is key among these - laying down his power, his authority, and his life both for Beren individually and also for the Edain as a whole.
Sauron's power may dominate and subjugate, but it is through Finrod's peace that hope grows to fruition and gil estel rises.
#my guy was in a sing-off with an actual demon#and he really does just drop in how he'd rather be hanging out at grandpa's beach house right now#iconic tbh#like. I too would rather be sipping miruvorë on Olwë's back porch than having to do slam poetry with Sauron but here we are I guess#anyway here's today's finrod rant I guess#meta#the silmarillion#silm meta#finrod#beren#luthien#beren and luthien

I love your depiction of Hamilton and Lafayette, it’s so funny! Lafayette is so sweet and happy and Hamilton just has beef w/ the entire world. I can’t wait to see more of their brotherly relations in ur AMAZING art style
God, they're so narrative foil coded
Seriously though, there's some fantastic contrast between them. They're just similar enough (both roughly the same age, both insecure and glory hungry, + their "shared father" or whatever Lafayette said) - and yet they manage to be exact opposites at the same time.
I could say more but I think this bit from Mike Duncan's biography about Lafayette basically gets at what I'm trying to say:
"Like Lafayette, Hamilton grew up without a father. He also lost his mother to a fatal illness at almost the same age Lafayette lost his. But where the tragedies of Lafayette’s childhood made him the heir of a fabulous fortune, the tragedies of Hamilton’s illegitimate childhood left him systematically cut out of his family’s inheritance. So where the dark clouds of Lafayette’s life were lined with silver, the dark clouds of Hamilton’s life were simply dark. Lafayette emerged from childhood buoyant and effusive, Hamilton cynical and reticent. But even though Hamilton started life a penniless bastard on the periphery of European civilization, and Lafayette started life an insanely wealthy heir in the heart of a great kingdom, they fell into an easy friendship. French was not the only language the two young men shared. The also shared a code of personal honor and a desire to prove themselves to the world." -Mike Duncan, Hero of Two Worlds, The Marquis de Lafayette in the Age of Revolution
Now, I am not qualified to speak on the real figures, but I do like to write. So, there is a narrative opportunity here that drives me insane.
Like, cast Hamilton as brilliant, but overly cynical with a habit of assuming the worst in people, and give him a negative character arc where he comes close to recognizing the potential good of humanity but ultimately falls into his more authoritarian tendencies. Then contrast him with Lafayette who's more naive. He's not quite sheltered but unfamiliar with the sort of selfishness and greed he'd have encountered if he grew up in a more vulnerable financial position. In coming to America he, like Hamilton, is forced to reckon with contempt, greed, and the failings of democratic government. But, unlike Hamilton, still manages to come out of it with a generally positive opinion of humanity.
I'm just saying, if I were writing history to contain ✨themes ✨ they are a perfect opportunity.
#this is the most I've ever ranted outside of my tags#it feels weird to have thoughts publicly lol#even if this is still generally nonspecific#is Lafayette's optimism just a symptom of his comparative naivete or do Hamiltons existing prejudices blind him to positivity#ok im done for now#amrev#alexander hamilton#marquis de lafayette#also I am glad people like my art style#because I#well Im pretty sure yall are talking about the way I color but I have spent ages trying to figure out how the hell human faces work#and I still dont get it#I spend most of my day on construction drawings which is a completely non-transferable skill#anyway literally the only thing to be done about it is to keep practicing so

Just to clarify my thoughts (since I've had a number of people ask me about it) re: Job and cursing God. There's a big difference between cursing God as used in Scripture and how we generally would think of cursing at God today.
Cursing someone, in the Bible, has a lot of depth to it. It's not just saying "screw you " in anger, it's got a sense of forsakenness to it. It's the opposite of a blessing, a removal of blessing. If the blessing is presence, your face shining on the person you're blessing, then a curse is absence. In some translations, Job's wife tells him to "renounce God and die," which I honestly think makes a lot more sense to modern ears.
Job says a lot of unpleasant things to and about God in his anger and grief. So do the Psalmists. A number of the Prophets. So can we. God can take it if we come to him with honest expressions of our emotion, including those not-so-nice ones directed at him. I don't think there's anything wrong with getting mad at God and saying, "How dare you, you bastard" when you suffer unjustly. You can say much worse, I think, without sinning, though I don't feel particularly inclined to give examples. But as long as it's an honest expression of your heart, I think you're doing exactly what prayer is for. You're presenting him your heart with an open hand. He can use that. Opposite of love is not hate but indifference, etc.
Job doesn't renounce God. Neither should we. But I think when you're truly suffering, you're gonna have those feelings toward God either way. He'd rather you address them with him directly than try to avoid them. Cursing at God in the modern sense is actually a great way to keep the relationship strong and not end up cursing/renouncing him in the Biblical sense.
#i did try to draw that distinction in the original post but I didn't really go into detail#mostly bc i was trying to be concise and just focus on how the church talks to sufferers#so here's the long version#pontifications and creations#only thou art holy#also side note: there was someone yesterday who responded to that post with the suggestion that suffering is generally the sufferer's fault#and it got worse from there#just an absolutely rank response that had me immediately blocking that person and googling if there was a way to remove someone's addition#idk to what degree that person is an active member of this broader christian community we've got going on here#but if you see that post (and you'll know it when you see it) please as a favor to me don't interact with it#there were some lovely responses and additions to that post yesterday too#but that one made me mad#idk. to a certain degree i wanted to vent#they're blocked now though so whatever#anyway. I've sort of been percolating on these various thoughts for a few weeks#since i went to a really fluffy women's talk on suffering#and now i kind of want to give my version#I'm far from the greatest sufferer in the world. i am well aware of that#but as I've been sick I've just done So Much Thinking and reading about theodicy and struggle with God that i feel qualified to opine#unlike the giver of that talk#anyway#tag rant over#...for now#theodicy

Honestly I feel for Sam but serves him right.
Even if we ignore the potential intermingling of the web or any other other spooky strings that are likely being pulled, there's a lot to unpack here.
I wouldn't say Sam "deserved" it, but Alice tried warning him for months. This is what he gets for sticking his nose in places it didn't belong.
Did I say the same thing about Jon in TMA? Yes and no. Obviously there isn't a story without someone doing something dumb, but I think Jon's situation and Sam's situation are a little different. Jon was an idiot, yes, but he (and everyone else around him) were forced to go in completely blind. He had no idea what he was doing and didn't have any warnings or help at all except from his creepy boss with ulterior motives.
Sam also went in blind, but he was warned several times by several people including the eldritch computer to stop and turn around. He could have avoided this if he just returned Alice's calls or looked at her messages.
But nooooo he had to poke around with his little crushy crush and get himself thrown into a portal to what we can only assume is the TMA universe. Serves him right.
#i have a lot of feelings about this if you couldn't tell#sam you little idiot#in many ways i get it#both from a personal standpoint AND from a writer's standpoint#he thought alice was being overbearing and blah blah blah i've said this before#i personally also hate overbearing people who helecopter me#BUT#there are a lot of moments where even i would have listened to alice's warnings#sam is a cave explorer in this scenario tbh#and he just got himself stuck in a tiny hole underground#because he didn't listen when someone more experienced said “dont be stupid”#its not a great analogy but its all ive got because youtube loves to show me that stuff apparently#👎#anyways i had more thoughts but ive ranted enough#im gonna stop yapping now#the magnus protocol#tmagp ep 30#tmagp spoilers#tmagp#jonathan sims#tmagp sam i still forgot his last name#alice dyer#celia ripley#the tags always give me the characters last names idk why i cant find sam's </3#to the person who gave me his name i owe you my life#samama khalid
