julian bemoaning turning 30 because it, according to him, marks the decline into middle age

yes 24th century baby tell me how bad it is to become middle aged in the Healthcare Is Free And Easy future. oh woe its so frustrating to get older in the world where getting older doesn't have any drawbacks

#im saying this with amusement #i watched distant voices on my 30th birthday and i was snorting with amusement and condescension at julian #thinking on it i think julians problem is Aw Im Not Young Anymore #also based on the episode he has a fear of being feeble and infirm (sids old man acting is upsettingly good)#this is all just modern writers placing modern values onto future characters where it wouldn't apply #that happens a lot in trek #also i like to joke that julian is afraid not being pretty anymore #because he doesnt have the benefit of knowing how hot he'll continue to be #anyways okay getting older still has one drawback in star trek... and thats ya know. getting closer to death. so thats fair #but also the human lifespan in trek is like 140 to 150 on average #we're thinking of middle age as being 45 to 50s but legit middle age in the trek universe SHOULD be 70s
