dustin: not a huge taylor Fan for the most part. likes her more popular hits and therefore probably 1989 if he had to pick an album. however he can also be found listening to very random debut tracks that no one else in the party ever really listens to. his spotify listening activity will show him listening to cold as you for three hours and everyone thinks it’s a glitch (it’s not). also a should’ve said no enjoyer. he and el scream it in the car a lot

will: tells everyone it’s folklore for the lyricism and whatnot (it’s mostly true) but he holds a special spot for red tv that he conveniently does not mention (specifically the breakup songs) (#andyoucallmeupagainjusttobreakmelikeapromise). mostly bc of the timing of when it dropped but also bc red tv is a masterpiece and he is putting some well deserved respect on its name. el and max know his secret though bc they had to listen to him listening to it on loop for nov-december 2021 and then it carried over into jan 2022 before they finally staged an intervention

mike: if he had to choose an Album it would prob be evermore but i think his favorite songs are scattered throughout the rest of her discography! to meeeee he is a mine enjoyer, as well as delicate, hygtg, so on and so forth. is not allowed to listen to this is me trying anymore for his own safety (lucas keeps tabs on his spotify activity). also to me mike is a pop punk enjoyer so i think speak now’s sound really draws him in as well! definitely got excited over fob + hayley’s features on the vault tracks

they obvi went to the concert in texas. they probably got tickets for both arlington and houston bc rich people yk

nash wore a sparkly cowboy hat and so did libby

(idc what you say, in my head, he likes glitter and i will stand on that hill)

in fact they all wore sparkly cowboy hats (xander forced grayson), but nash and libby's were matching

grayson ofc is wearing all black, very rep era but he's secretly a lover girl at heart. he also likes midnights because let's face it- who doesn't??

but everyone convinced him to get his jacket embroidered with "ts" and a few snakes along the sleeves and back to pull together the whole rep look

i don't think i finished talking about nash and libby?? anyway, matching sequin cowboy hats, nash wore a flannel with patches from different albums

him and libby spent a whole night designing it

libby wore a tee shirt from the midnights album

and the night before, nash and libby painted her favorite lyrics on some black cargo pants and some cute lil doodles

nash totally wrote N+L on one of the pockets inside a big red heart because i said so

thea is in her rep era because she's a badass so she wore all black with some maroon to make her outfit pop, she got her nails done and everything

now, onto avery. i think her favorite albums is midnights and rep because of the vibe of the songs and overall it is just SO HER and i feel like she wore a shirt with the midnights album cover on it. she also wrote her favorite lyrics from the album on the front of the shirt with a fabric pen or something of the sort. i can also see her wearing a rep outfit too tho!! she is rich so since she could go to two concerts and wear both outfits ig lol

jameson is a total swiftie!! xander is too but we'll get to that next this boy would really like 1989 and a good handful of songs from lover because they remind him of avery

he would wear something 1989 themed but also something sorta flashy, i think

she for sure loves the love triangle in folklore/evermore but also enjoys midnights

she radiates night owl energy because she'll stay up until 4am to finish a really good plot twisty dark romance novel and the whole track (midnights 3am edition) reminds her of her favorite ships. she makes edits and you can't convince me otherwise. although max does love evermore, she would totally love speak now era taylor and therefore would wear that really pretty purple sparky dress on the album cover!!

✰ Fearless always kinda goes hand in hand with Debut to me since it's when she was still kinda in her country era, so I think Laura Lee would also adore this one. It was actually tricky for me to choose what her favorite on this album would be, but I settles on Tell Me Why because I think it's funny for her to love breakup songs, because let's face it, our girl hasn't gone through a breakup, but she can't help resonating and loving them anyway

Lottie - Evermore

✰ Evermore just felt like another given. It's got that vintage yet whimsical vibe that I like to associate with Lottie that's also got this sad warmth to it I guess. It's also probably one of my favorite albums so of course I give it to one of my favorite girls

✰ I think her favorite song is a tie between Ivy and Long Story Short. I'm not really sure why. They just both fit in my head I guess

Misty - Lover & Midnights

✰ Oh, my sweet hopeless romantic. Misty is the embodiment of both of these albums and no one can argue with me (of course you can, I'm joking). But poor thing just wants to be seen and loved, and I think that's what these albums embody when paired together.

✰ Lover perfectly fits how Misty wants to be loved so bad and the sweet, innocent positive face she forces, but really she's hurting inside. I think from this album her favorites would be The Archer because come on, it's her, and Paper Rings because again, it just fits her so well (it's also got quite a few lines that are definitely what she's doing when she's got a crush)! She's definitely one of those girls making little origami things in class, like those puffy paper stars and of course, paper rings

✰ Then you have Midnights, which imma be real, I only picked because of Mastermind, because it's also her song!

Natalie - Reputation

✰ Yeah, this is another given. I mean, what else do I choose for her? modern teen Natalie would love this album but she wouldn't want anyone to know about it. I think she could also be a Swiftey, but she's very secretive about it. Maybe only Laura Lee knows she's a fan and it's their little secret together

✰ Her favorite song was kinda hard to pick for her, but I settled on Delicate because it's actually extremely fitting for her character, which surprised me when I listened to it again. I personally see teen Natalie as being pretty self continue under the surface, so realizing that she likes someone and they like her back would actually be pretty nerve-wracking for her, which feels fitting for "delicate"

Shauna - Folklore

✰ I went back and forth between Evermore and Folklore for Shauna, but ultimately Lottie is Evermore and Shauna is Folklore in my mind. They both have this sad, old aesthetic to me that fits both albums but in a different way, I guess

✰ but for her favorite song, I picked Cardigan because that felt like another given. I mean, we all saw the way she was watching Jackie at that part pre-crash, right? It was full of that longing you feel In Cardigan

Taissa - Red

✰ I feel like Tai would enjoy early Taylor, but she's more into her kinda pop era, which would make Red the perfect album for her. It's got its up songs as well as its down songs and it fits her ever-changing vibe, which I think is good for her

✰ Choosing a favorite song was another tough one to think about, but I ended up picking State of Grace. It's another one that I don't have a lot of reasoning/explanation for, but it just kinda felt right, y'know?

Van - Speak Now

✰ Van has always felt somewhat country to me and I'm not sure why, so I guess that's fitting for Speak Now. Speak Now kinda gives a nice transition from country into Taylers more pop-ish era, and that just kinda sounds like Van to me. Like, she grew up in the Midwest, but she still somehow has a little Southern charm about her. That could totally just be a me thing though

✰ Her favorite songs have got to be Mean and The Story Of Us. I can imagine Van blasting both of them in the car, singing at the top of her lungs with the windows down, and a huge smile on her face when she's driving around with her friends. We know Van likely doesn't have a car in her teen years, so she's probably driving with Tai and probably Laura Lee. they like singing together to annoy Tai, though she actually enjoys listening to them

Like, "Better than Revenge" was my thing when I was fifteen. And, yeah, I've listened to most of her albums. I liked Midnights and folklore and evermore. But I was never in love with her as a person. But I heard someone call her the "greatest songwriter of our generation," and that's just... That's a bit bizarre for me. I think she's good as an artist, though. So... She wasn't even touring or anything. The woman's a multimillionaire. With that kind of money, you would think that she'd be more environmentally conscious, but no. Not at all. hi . idk. i was randomly rewatching a gaga interview from 2011 where she talks about listening to bruce springsteen with her dad and how she was always working so hard for his approval and how she always felt like she had been sinning and doing everything wrong since birth and was not good enough for him even though she loves him so much and how he used to be a punk kid himself but then he grew up and became a trump supporter but also he lost his sister when he was a teenager and didn't realize what was going on at the time and so she felt like he was so overprotective of her because he had lost his sister. i think i am so defensive of the joanne era bc i totally didn't get it at first. i thought it was a carefully calculated move to try and regain the public's trust through manufactured authenticity (and like, it is) but the whole criticism of "she wasn't even born when her aunt died" is so......yeah that is true but she grew up carrying her dad's trauma over it bc he projected it onto her probably without even meaning to and then i think of speechless and how she wrote it as someone reaching out to a lover or a friend that they can't reach because of alcohol or drugs but she wrote it for her dad, and "her boyfriend's like a dad, just like a dad" in alejandro and jo calderone as a representation of all her boyfriends but also clearly her dad and publishing her aunt's poetry in the liner notes for the fame and her and her team saying "joooooANNE!" before each performance and "my daddy and nebraska and jesus christ" in you and i like.....it is so fascinating to me that she essentially chased men who reminded her of her dad out of what i think she eventually realized was some twisted way of seeking her father's approval especially bc they were not talking when she first started gogo dancing and everything. joanne as an album (once you cut out all the bad songs) is probably.....somehow??? my favorite work of hers???? it had been the fame monster for years but joanne is just so unintentionally sincere BECAUSE she is trying so hard especially in retrospect where she can say something years after the fact like "i wrote this album for my dad but after i finished i felt worse than ever and i realized that i couldn't fix him" and thinking about how she got so depressed after the joanne era because i think she realized her entire career had been about her trying to "reform" herself for her dad to try and. idk ? be good enough for him??

Okay so there is no rule saying I can't repeat albums, and my gut said Janis Joplin. BUT that's not fun so I thought harder about it and it's a good thing I did bc this is so much better. Patti Smith's debut album Horses

Patti Smith, punk poet laureate, I don't actually listen to a lot of Julien Baker outside of Boygenius's album but between that and your love for girl!gvf (which like is you supporting a friend but also clear genuine love) I just had to give you the vaguely queer punk love of my life. Not just because both are queer but because the grittiness of both I think calls for the grittiness of Patti

So there's a lot about this album that I ADORE I think its probably top 10 albums of all time for me. We'll start with the non-music. The cover photo was taken by Robert Mapplethorpe, who was a very good friend of Patti's and also her lover for a while. He eventually comes out as gay, they stay very good friends, and he becomes an incredibly influential American Photographer. I do not recommend looking him up unless you are willing to see explicit gay BDSM photography. But I have such a soft spot for him as a historian of gay male sexual subcultures, I dedicated my masters thesis to him (and others who were involved in kink and died of AIDS)

Okay so the music

The first song "Gloria: In Excelsis Deo" is one of my favorite songs of all time. Top 10 I think. Van Morrison originally wrote the song, The Doors do a version of it. But Patti re-works the Van Morrison song and it's SO FUCKING GOOD. "Jesus died for somebody's sins, but not mine" is the best fucking lyric EVER (See what i mean about Julian Baker?)

It's not quite punk, if by punk you're thinking like The Clash or The Ramones, it's very American punk. More similar to the Velvet Underground (I'm not sure if Patti ever met Lou Reed, but she must have. They were both running in similar circles, I think Robert Maplethorpe must have been in Andy Warhol's circle even if on the very edge) But even then it's not quite that either. it's SO poetry heavy? I don't know how to explain it. If you've never listened to his album I'm begging you to.

My favorite story about Patti Smith is that one day, Allen Ginsberg mistook her for a young boy and was trying to flirt with her and then realized she was infact not a boy, but bought her dinner anyways.

sidenote: i would probably consider this song her first public coming out? i know there's some gay lyrics in her older songs, and she was super gay on myspace back in the day, but singing about how she's excited to be somewhere girls can like girls is pretty blatant. just saying. (also, this came out (pun intended) like a year before gay marriage was legalized in the whole country. so being in a state where it was already legal is kind of a big deal. even if she personally has no interest in getting married)

Hi! I hope you had a good weekend! Where did you go? Did you do anything fun? Happy Lunar New Year! Don't worry about the lengths of your replies at all. Mine will probably be shorter from now on too. How are you? I don't know which songs will be singles. Maybe the first two songs since one is a feature and those numbers are usually singles in an album..or number 3. I have like no idea for this album though but maybe we will get three singles like Midnights. I always tend to love the first 3 songs of every Taylor album so I'm also excited for those. I've also noticed I don't care for her number sevens as much lol, and I think her 10s are just okay. I haven't liked any song that's number 14 as much for her last few albums, but I actually love the Great War so hopefully I like the new one. I only noticed cuz it's one of my favorite numbers. Haha I hope that's not too crazy that I know that. But I always seem to love the first and last and title songs. I haven't seen the rumored list except someone that worked on a few Lover songs worked on a few songs so that's interesting and gives some ideas of what it will sound like. I'm sure Aaron worked on a few songs too. There seems to be a lot of upcoming music I'm looking forward to..even before her album comes out. Ariana Grande has a new album and Beyonce announced her Act 2 album and released two songs! They are so good and I'm really interested to see her do a full country album. Ariana's album comes out the beginning of next month, the same day as Bleachers actually, and Beyonce's is the end of next month! We are also expecting twenty one pilots new music by the end of this month and I'm curious when their album will come out too. What have you been listening to recently or what are some albums you're looking forward to?

Speaking of Ariana, the first look and trailer for Wicked premiered last night. What are your thoughts? I've watched it a few times and think it's okay. I don't really know what I expected from it but I don't know how to feel. I like Ariana I guess but idk if she is exactly Glinda to me but I don't really know who else I would want either. It didn't really show enough but I thought the actual movie and trailer at least looked nice, with the colors and stuff. I am still not sure about the two parts thing though and I'm wondering if that's why it didn't show much? I admit I am more familiar with Act 1. I like Cynthia and think the movie has potential but it doesn't feel like Wicked either to me yet. I think they also said the movie might add stuff from the book, so I might read it before the movie comes out. I love Wicked a lot though, more than other musicals and have been waiting forever for a movie version. I'm sure a lot of other people have too and have mixed feelings. I feel the same way for now but I'm definitely seeing the movie anyway. What do you think about it?

Do you think she will add it to the show in some way or even wear any new costumes? I guess I can't decide or how that would be. I can't believe we were all expecting rep at this point and she even said she would have announced the new album at a show, but it feels so crazy now. it's always nice to see family — got to eat a lot of good food and a lot of (much needed) sunshine! wait what's your least favorite number seven? i don't think i've ever noticed a pattern of some sorts for my favorite/least favorites, now that you mention it! i loveeee the great war, it's probably in my top 5 on midnights — dear reader, mastermind, yoyok, the great war, and paris. in no particular order. i've been listening to a lot of holly humberstone lately as usual, but most recently have been spinning the last dinner party! last week my favorites were the rosie darling album "lanterns", as well as the kaitlyn tarver album "quitter". what about you? i'm super excited for the new bleachers, new holly EP, new beyonce — lots of good music for the month of march!

i actually somehow still have not seen the wicked trailer in full 😭 but my friends seem very mixed on it (mostly not a fan). i'm wondering if i should try to read the book before seeing it, since i feel like there'll be more book influence? maybe? hopefully? but from the stills i've seen, i still have a very hard time imagining ... everyone ... as their characters haha.

ugh i love the outside! i used to listen to it in the car constantly as an incredibly lonely little girl who didn't fit in at school and just moved to a new country. it's one of the songs i'm most excited for on debut tv — aside from tied together with a smile, cold as you, and invisible. debut is just... a perfect album to me. very nostalgic.

we have a show tonight! i wonder what she'll sing! i'm likely going to be up for surprise songs (i have some friends going, so i'm hoping to watch their surprise songs); i feel like it'll be from some more recent albums (maybe rep? maybe lover?); i feel like she hasn't sang from them in a while! i don't think she'll add a TTPD set — eras is already so long, they'd have to go back into rehearsals/choreo for it, it just feels like a bit of a logistical nightmare — especially when you consider the movie, and that she's already toured for so long. my guess is we'll see it on the b-stage for surprise songs!! either way, i'm excited! that being said, if you were to cut maybe 5 songs from the current setlist to make a TTPD setlist, what 5 songs would you cut?
