ALSO. IRRELEVANT SIDEBAR. i seem to be the only person in the fandom who a) took it as a given that âthe girl who fell through the worldâ was at least a century old and thus predated the great war by at least two or three decades, and b) didnât think the authorâs identity being unknown was odd enough to require an explanation.
and iâm wondering now if the xkcd average familiarity curse Got Me bfgrbxcjk
aliceâs adventures in wonderland! that book is One Hundred Fifty-Eight Years Old. it was published in november 1865. through the looking glass was published six years later in december 1871. CAN YOU NAME THE AUTHOR?
if you answered âlewis carroll,â bzzt! incorrect!
(well, correct in that the books were indeed written under that pseudonym BUT I MEAN HIS REAL NAME.)
aliceâs adventures in wonderland is a hundred and fifty-eight years old. it has never been out of print. itâs been translated into a hundred seventy-four languages and itâs one of the best known works of nineteenth century english literature in the world. itâs been adapted many, many times for stage and radio and film and video games. âretelling the true story of alice in wonderlandâ is like an entire niche fantasy YA subgenre; i could name seven different examples off the top of my head. itâs as close to UBIQUITOUS as itâs possible for a story to be in a world with seven billion people living in it.
and⊠in a world where the non-pseudonymous identity of the author is thoroughly documented and easily accessible via the internet, the average person who Fondly Remembers watching the disney animated film or having the book read to them as a kid doesnât know that âlewis carrollâ was a pen name.
his real name was charles dodgson.
and the reason the average person doesnât know that isnât any kind of individual failing or whatever, itâs just that the book was published almost a hundred and sixty years ago under a pen name. the pen name is whatâs on the cover. most people donât go Looking for biographical information about the authors of books their parents read to them as kids unless they have a particular reason to be interested. such as high octane nerdery.
(i own the 150th anniversary edition of the annotated alice and have read it cover to cover multiple times. and iâll do it again. i am an Owns Books About The Math In Wonderland kind of nerdy about alice.)
âthe point. being. the real world has a lot of things going for it in terms of historical preservation that remnant does not, chiefly the absence of a Fuck Ton of monsters trying to eat everybody all the time and making international travel and communication horrifyingly dangerous on a good day. the CCTS has only existed for a few decades; before that, sharing information between kingdoms was matter of âsend an armed convoy and hope they donât get killed and eaten by The Horrors en route.â
so the scholars of remnant are at, to put it mildly, a serious disadvantage in terms of information being retained over time.
anyway. âthe girl who fell through the worldâ is established very clearly to be remnantâs equivalent of our aliceâs adventures in wonderland, in that it is a quite old childrenâs story that became MASSIVELY POPULAR worldwide, to the point that nearly everyone alive has at least some familiarity with the plot, many remember it as a cherished childhood bedtime story, and the more bookish characters can quote favorite passages from memory.
which is to say, it isnât just The Story is an allusion to the wonderland story. the bookâs ubiquity is also modeled after aliceâs ubiquity, and the lack of popular knowledge about the authorâs real identity likewise takes its cue from the fact that in real life most people Donât Know who charles dodgson is.
so!!!
itâs not at all unreasonable to think that âthe girl who fell through the worldâ is probably meant to be about as old as aliceâs adventures in wonderlandâabout a hundred fifty years, which would mean lewis published it around sixty years before the great war even started. (he also presumably didnât publish it as a child; if he was about the age dodgson was when alice went to print, this would have been around twenty years after the fact.)
and itâs also not unreasonable to think that lewis, like charles dodgson, published his book under a pseudonym. or anonymously, but given how certain jaune is that alyx wrote the book, even though it was lewis taking notes and lewis saying he would write the story for jaune to find his way homeâŠ
iâd put my bet on lewis having written his book as âA.L. [Surname].â A for alyx, L for lewis, a symbolic way for her to come home with him. but the girls upon discovering the ever after is real and alyx was real would of course think âoh, âALâ as in short for alyxâ and the use of initials is also ambiguous enough for jaune to worry his way to the conclusion that he did, after alyx poisoned him.
fast forward a century and a half or so in a setting with no internet for most of that and hordes of man-eating Nightmare Beasts inhibiting international communication and⊠yeah of course the Real Name of beloved childrenâs classic author A.L. Whoever isnât common knowledge outside of academic and hobbyist carrollian-equivalent circles.
#this post brought to you by me having the thought#âbut why are we surprised the book is way older than the great war. itâs aaiw.â#followed by ââŠâŠâŠyour experiences are not universalâ-ing myself GRBFJSJK#anyway. if theyâre going where i think they might be going with lewis#heâs theodoreâs great-grandfather#and his children were of the generation that fought in the great war#<- HIGHLY speculative but trust me it tracks.

hello!! I was redirected here by bronzetomatoes after inquiring about kylo ren hate (I think the hitting him with a car post is so funny and also i know so little about star wars. it adds to the comedy tbh) and i was told if i want the funny/thorough answer that youâre the place to go. so if youâd like to, go absolutely off the walls about it :)
My friend have you come to the right place.
SO BASICALLY Star Wars is a story about how 3 good movies collectively altered the course of human history by making just like, stupid amounts of money right?
So obviously, Disney was like âI need to get in on thatâ and bought Star Wars and then started working on their own trilogy. If youâre a Star Wars fan, this is pretty cool! New planets, new character, new lore! It was pretty awesome. The trailer for the first movie in this new trilogy came out and everyone loved it! So much interesting things!!! A female protagonist?!?!? Wow this is so awesome!!!
The problem was the movie isnât very good.
Donât get me wrong the force awakens is fine, definitely the best movie in the trilogy, the problem is that it wasnât good enough, not for most audiences, and especially not for Disney. So they fired JJ Abrams, who directed the force awakens, and hired Ryan Johnson to direct the second movie: the last Jedi.
I fucking hate the last Jedi.
And so did like half the world, and what followed the release of the film was probably the worst fucking time in the history of life on earth to be a Star Wars fan, as basically the entire fanbase devolved into a civil war between last jedi haters and last jedi defenders.
But amongst all the fighting, another group was beginning to form, one that had began in the shadows of the Force Awakens, but was now bolstered by the release of the last Jedi, a shadowy and secretive threat that was about to rear itâs ugly head:
Reylo.
Now, Reylo, as a ship is like, fine? Itâs literally just the most barebones enemies to lovers ship you can imagine.
But Reylo as a fanbase? Thatâs where things start to get interesting. Because what Reylo lacked in character and writing, it made up for in hot fucking actors (I mean itâs fucking Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver what did you expect). this in turn led to a vicious cycle where Reylo fans were extremely uh⊠motivated⊠and also had basically blank canvases to build off of. This lead to the Reylo fandom becoming almost a separate entity to the Star Wars fandom, which only further boosted their forces.
But what made Reylo infamous was the scale. These guys were loud, and were prepared to rip anyone to shreds for even the smallest injustices. It was a dog eat dog world, and one that maintained itself through a constant state of war.
But setting Reylo fans aside for a second, you may be wondering âOkay but what does any of that have to do with Kylo Ren?â Which, sure fair question. But to answer that, we have to look at Reylo not as a ship, but as characters.
Now, Rey, as far as protagonists go, is⊠fine? Sheâs definitely screwed majorly by being in a completely unplanned trilogy of movies that wasnât interest in making her a compelling and likable character, but like even then Iâd be lying if I said that she wasnât at the very least interesting. And again like Iâll take any excuse to see Daisy Ridl- sorry what, anyways point is Rey Palpatine skywalker kenobi whatever is a perfectly mediocre protagonist and thus, while sexist assholes may try to convince you that she burned the worldâs crops and poisoned the town water supply, truth be told I and many others fans became at worst indifferent, and best charmed by her.
But Kylo Ren? Kylo Motherfucking Ren? Ben SWOLO himself?
This man makes me violent.
And itâs not because heâs more well written then Rey, or even because his writing is particularly worse, as far as Iâm concerned theyâre both hand in unlovable in in terms of writing quality.
The problem with Kylo is that he could of been so much better, so easily, and yet people still fawned over him.
Like, this guy is Darth Vaderâs Fucking Grandson, Luke Skywalkerâs Nephew, Son of Han Solo and Leia Skywalker, 1 hot actor removed from self insert character, and yet these writers fucking struggle, each and every time, to figure out what to do with him. Like they are fucking racking their brains trying to make a guy with one of the sickest lightsaber designs ever and a badass outfit all being acted by ADAM FUCKING DRIVER âinteresting.â
And PEOPLE FUCKING FELL FOR IT. Like if you go into almost any even slightly sad tag in ao3 I guarantee there will be at least one kylo fic. Like I can not stress to you enough how many people fucking lost their MINDS!!!
FOR HIM
And remember, this is all ON TOP of the fawning that Reylo stans had already been doing. Which only made things worse, if you can even believe that.
And so ever since Rise of Skywalker managed to drag the sequel trilogyâs tired, burning, mangled corpse over the finish line, and all the buzz over it died down, and every YouTube video essayist/movie analyzer saw dollar signs in their eyes, weâre left here, with Adam Driverâs tits swaying in the wind. And for what? The most stock Sad Boy Villaintm of all time and his British gf? A marginally cool lightsaber design? Maybe like, 1 cool fight scene at the end of the first movie?
Like⊠Iâm just left to stare⊠Stare at this manâs hot topic shopper ass hair cut and Zuko wannabe facial scar, left with nothing better to do than seethe, quietly and angrily, at a character who could have been so much, who could have done so much, but yet was doomed to only ever be himself.
In the end, I suppose I am like Sisyphus, rolling my anger up a hill, knowing that itâll only roll back down again anyway, and yet not an ounce less motivated to continue my toil. Because Kylo Ren is my enemy, my one true opposite in this great narrative we call reality.
And at least, on some nights, I can rest easy knowing that he fucking died at the end.
#so so so so sorry for ranting at you.#I may have uh#gone a bit insane while writing this#but uh#hey you asked for#it#asks#Star Wars#reylo neg#<- for tag blocking purposes

2022 in review, part 7: theme park first rides
for my final âyear in reviewâ type post, i thought iâd share my favorite theme park attractions that i rode for the first time this year.
1. guardians of the galaxy: cosmic rewind
this didnât pop my âfirst rollercoaster in probably a decadeâ cherry, but it was pretty easily the best new thing iâve ridden all year. i would ride this thing several times in a row if i could. first of all itâs a launchcoaster, which turns out to be a much better experience for me given that i for some reason have gotten super wimpy about rollercoaster drops in my 30s.
idk. i was always a pretty big wuss about them as a kid but i found it easily to overcome it usually? i think i was probably traumatized by american eagle at six flags great america being my first big kid coaster. that thing is no joke.
anyway, this has everything i love about rollercoasters that makes them exhilarating but none of the things that trigger my phobias? and on top of that, it has loud rock & roll music (our track was blondieâs âone way or anotherâ) and some kickass visuals. this honestly kind of blew me away.
2. star wars: rise of the resistance
look, iâve cooled off on star wars in the past few years considerably to the point that it isnât even really something iâd say i like anymore? but it was a huge deal to me for a very long time so iâm super familiar with the universe and everything (plus like, this is a theme park attraction at the busiest theme park in the world, theyâre not exactly gonna expect you to know the deep lore). but yeah, iâm the kind of dumbass that saw a few cast members walking around star wars land in stormtrooper costumes and begged my partner to snap a few pictures of me looking like i was surrendering to them, because that is probably the subbiest thing you can get away with at a theme park? lmao.
anyway, without spoiling it for anyone who hasnât ridden, with that last thing in mind this ride was extremely up my alley. itâs hard to even really compare it to another ride? because fully like 50% of it is just walking around these big, huge awesome sets and feeling like youâre actually in the world, and all of that happens before you even get to the ride vehicle. and the parts on the ride vehicle kick ass, too, but yeah thereâs⊠Stuff that happens before that that really, really appeals to me.
3. mickey & minnieâs runaway railway
iâm a rollercoaster wimp, so obviously i fucking love dark rides. which means that disney & universal parks are by far the parks that have the most actual stuff for me to enjoy? anyway, yeah, my expectations for this ride were not nearly high enough. this does such a great job of actually making you feel like youâre in a cartoon. i was genuinely blown away.
4. rockân roller coaster starring aerosmith
like obviously i give zero shits about the theming on this one, but itâs the first rollercoaster iâd rode in years so thatâs obviously gonna stick with me. i really wish launch coasters were more common because this kicked ass, and itâs so nice to be able to experience all the things i love about rollercoasters without having to experience the anxiety of those stupid drops.
5. volcano bay
rather than listing all the attractions separately, iâll just say that we had a great time at volcano bay. i do think the whole park is rife with textbook-worthy examples of cultural appropriation, but in terms of âthis was a fun waterpark,â it definitely nailed it.

Something New Has Been Added: Inside Tex Averyâs Madcap Animated Universe By  Donald Liebenson
âThe secret in animating is first to have an everlasting sense of humor, next to be able to see the commonplace in a funny way and most important of all, to be able to sketch your idea so that the other person will think it's funny."âTex Avery, The Dallas Morning News, 1933
At the start of Fred âTexâ Averyâs RED HOT RIDING HOOD (â43), the Wolf, Red Riding Hood and even Grandma rebel against a traditional rendering of the classic fairy tale and threaten to quit the cartoon right then and there. âEvery cartoon studio in Hollywood has done it this way,â Red complains. âIâm pretty sick of it myself,â Grandma chimes in. And just like that, something new had been added, with a cat-calling, zoot-suit-bedecked Wolf cruising Hollywood Blvd.; Red Hot Riding Hood (aka that Sweetheart of Swing) knockinâ âem dead at a Hollywood night club; and a slang-slinging Grandma (âHiya cousin, whatâs buzzin?ââ) waiting for a wolf of her own in her penthouse digs.
RED HOT RIDING HOOD kicks off TCMâs early morning tribute to Tex Avery, which will easily be the funniest thing you see all day. The cartoons will be preceded by John Needhamâs British documentary TEX AVERY: KING OF CARTOONS (â88). It is an ideal primer into the Avery-verse that charts his legendary career from high school cartoonist through his tenures with Walter Lantz Productions, Warner Bros. and MGM. Along with a generous sampling of clips from his Warner Bros. and MGM cartoons, there are priceless interviews with equally legendary colleagues such as Chuck Jones, Heck Allen and Mike Lah, along with June Foray, the Queen of Cartoons and Joe Adamson, who wrote the essential book, also titled Tex Avery: King of Cartoons. (Coincidence, isnât it?)
Needham told TCM he was encouraged to make the documentary by Chuck Jones, whom Needham had profiled for the BBC arts series, Omnibus. âHe simply said, âWe should make a film about Tex,â he said. As an Avery fan himself, Needham was all in. âI think itâs his ability to take a gag to the extremes and then take it further and then take it even further,â he said. âChuck said that he could never copy Tex because he didnât have a clue what Tex was doing, he just knew that he was a genius. Iâm sure I donât know either, but what he did was incredibly funny.â
The seven cartoons included in the TCM tribute meet the âincredibly funnyâ standard. They were produced for MGM. These are not as well known or as widely seen as his cartoons for Warner Bros., where, most notably, Avery directed A WILD HARE (â40), the cartoon that established Bugs Bunnyâs brash personality. Avery was an outlier at the tony studio that boasted âmore stars than there are in the heavens.â MGM did make sparkling and sophisticated romantic comedies directed by the likes of George Cukor and Ernst Lubitsch, but MGM was where clowns went to die.
Buster Keaton wrote in his memoir that signing with MGM was âthe worst mistakeâ of his career. THE CAMERMAN (â28) was an auspicious beginning, but gradually, Keaton lost the lionâs share of his creative control, suffered studio interference and was partnered with Jimmy Durante. The Marx Brothersâ association with the studio likewise began promisingly with A NIGHT AT THE OPERA (â35), but soon the iconoclastic highs of the brothersâ Paramount films were but a dim memory and the brothers were relegated to playing second fiddle to insipid romantic leads like Kenny Baker and Florence Rice in AT THE CIRCUS (â39).
But MGM could not tame Tex Avery. Or perhaps studio execs didnât think animation was worth the time and trouble to meddle with, allowing him to work unimpeded. The best of the cartoons he made for the studio between 1942-55 put the âmadâ in madcap, if thatâs your idea of a good time. In his book, Adamson observes: âNo artist, in any century, on any continent, in any medium, has ever succeeded in creating his own universe as thoroughly and overwhelmingly as Tex Avery.â
You might say that a Tex Avery cartoon is like that proverbial box of chocolates; you never know what youâre going to get. âSay, what kind of a cartoon is this gonna be, anyway?â asks the title character in SCREWBALL SQUIRREL (â44), another of the Avery 7 to be featured in TCMâs mini-Avery-palooza. Well, itâs NOT going to be a charming Disney-esque romp with adorable forest creatures. Screwball Squirrel sees to that when he takes one of them behind a tree and violently disposes of him, assuring the audience, âThe funny stuff will start as soon as the phone rings.â
BAD LUCK BLACKIE and KING-SIZE CANARY, two masterpieces that are highlights of TCMâs Avery cartoon block, break all rules of the physical world and nature. In the former, a black cat brings instant bad karma each time he crosses the path of a bullying bulldog. At one point, the unfortunate pooch must dodge a succession of falling objects that escalate from a sink to a battleship. In the latter, a chase between a cat, mouse and dog escalates to gigantic proportions thanks to a bottle of Jumbo Gro.
What critic James Agee wrote about the Marx Brothers also applies to Avery in that even lesser Tex is better worth seeing than most other things I can think of. SYMPHONY IN SLANG (â51) is a succession of silly sight gags inspired by a hipsterâs arrival at the Pearly Gates. He tells his life story to a befuddled Noah Webster, who pictures literal translations to such phrases as, âI was born with a silver spoon in my mouth,â âIt was raining cats and dogsâ and âI died laughing.â
SCREWBALL SQUIRREL features some great self-referential gags, such as the title character peeking ahead to the next scene to figure out what to do next. But the character was so obnoxious that he was actually killed off at the end of his fifth, and final, cartoon.
Averyâs influence is vast. When in THE LITTLE MERMAID (â89), Sebastianâs jaw drops like an anvil when he spies Ariel nursing an injured Prince Eric, thatâs a classic Tex Avery take. THE MASK (â94) pays direct homage to RED HOT RIDING HOOD when Jim Carreyâs Mask man is undone by nightclub chanteuse Cameron Diaz. And the Tex Avery force is strong in Animaniacsâ helter-skelter pacing and fourth-wall breaking.
But there is nothing like the real thing. No one made cartoons that were loonier. The secret? As Avery told Joe Adamson, he didnât think in terms of the age of his audience: âI tried to do something I thought I would laugh at if I were to see it on the screen.â

There is a light at the end of the tunnel
Hello, Stuck. Sorry, I donât know your real name.
I wrote this long ass post to bring some light into the fandom and between the CSs, and I hope you can post it? Iâm new in the Tumblr world, but not in the 5H fandom. I donât quite know how it works yet and, for the moment, I only know your blog and those of @emisonme, @karlaswine, @sun-to-my-luna, @underthatimpression, and @mentesimploria because, in one way or another, youâre all connected to each other. I just wanted to tell you guys how much I appreciate every single one of you, the passion you have, and the hope you keep alive among those who, like me, love the girls. Also, the patience you guys have, especially against the haters, is admirable. I love the fact that you keep going. Because this is your sacred place, as it should be.
This is the very first time Iâve ever done anything like this. Iâm what can be defined as a âsilent fanâ. I never commented on anything in the girlsâ posts, not even on the fan accounts I follow. I donât have Twitter. I have Facebook but itâs like I donât have it because I donât use it. I have Wattpad (obviously). I recently registered here on Tumblr, and I have Instagram. Thatâs what I use. Itâs the only app along with YouTube that I use daily to keep up with the rest of the world. Especially the American part of the world. Iâm Italian, but I speak American English well, and I apologize in advance if my lazy ass hasnât noticed possible grammatical errors. I saw that a lot of you are into this stuff, so I thought Iâd add it just because. Iâm a Capricorn Sun, Cancer Moon, and Virgo rising.
Iâm gonna turn 29 on December 22, and this is a BIG fuck off to all the people who have attacked you lately for your age. This is personal information that I give freely to make ignorant and small-minded people understand that, in this context especially, age is irrelevant. As you, little fucker who hides behind a computer to attack people just to feel stronger, have a life, we have it too. Like you, we have a life, a job, friends, etc. We also have passions. Passions that yes, my dear haters, also include shipping people. I donât know why in your stupid brain weâre too old to ship people we love and to give opinions about it. I didnât know it was something reserved only for those who still smell like mommyâs milk. But anywayâŠ
I became aware of 5H existence just before summer 2015 thanks to âWorth Itâ. Being Italian, however, I had no idea who they were, and to be honest, I didnât go searching for them. Randomly one day then, I ran into Camren on YouTube. I canât remember which video I was watching, but I know for sure it was about âHeya/Brittanaâ (Heather Morris and Naya Rivera/Brittany and Santana, my very first hard LGBT ship). And among the suggested videos, there they are. As ridiculous as it sounds, and although I liked them as soon as I saw them, I didnât go searching for them. I did it when âWork from Homeâ came out though. From there, I connected that they were the same âWorth Itâ group and the same two girls I liked from those YouTube videos. I had officially become a fan. I was screwed. Screwed because, Iâd officially entered one of the most messed up and yet most beautiful fandoms ever.
As I initially said, this is the very first time Iâve ever done anything like this. But after the recent events, seeing how many people gave up, it made me a little angry and gave me the strength to speak for the first time. I thought the first time wouldâve been through the fanfiction Iâve been working on for over two years, but no. Lauren and her beautiful mouth had to terrorize, disappoint, panic, and make angry 80% of CS, thus fueling the hatred of all the other fandom towards us. So I decided to speak now. Maybe, just maybe, this very long ass post of mine is gonna help struggling CS. Maybe, just maybe, itâs gonna make them reason and bring them to their senses.
So. This, as I think youâve understood, is about Lauren and what she said in the podcast. This is a reminder of the Laucy situation. These are things we already know and that I want to remind you of because apparently, my lovely fellows CS, either you have a short-term memory, or Lauren has the power to create amnesia in peopleâs minds and I knew nothing about it. Surely this power of hers didnât work on me and a few others.
Oh and, before starting: 1) You may disagree with me. Itâs normal to have different opinions. 2) You can search for information such as dates, easily on the internet. 3) Iâm gonna use nicknames on PRs for fun. That doesnât mean I hate them. I have my reasons for dislike each one of them as people, but I can assure you it has nothing to do with the fact that they were or are the Camren beards. An example to make you understand what I mean is Ty. Iâm a huge Ari fan and Iâve been listening to âsafety netâ non-stop for two days straight. I really dislike Ty as a person, but I separate the art from the artist.
Okay, that said, I can start.
Lauren said: âI knew I was queer because I fell in love with my best friend when I was like 15.â â âHer and I started to have a physical connection when I was 15.â
Lauren and Lucid Vivisectionist met when L moved to Carrollton in 7th grade. Lucille moved back to Puerto Rico in February 2012, returning to visit Miami occasionally (this explains the fetus pictures with Lucy and Camren at Lâs house). In February 2012, Lauren was 15, Camila 14, and Lucy 16. And who did Lauren meet when she was 15? Oh yeah, Camila. C and L did the first phase of the audition, the âcattle callâ, on May 1, 2012 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Audition where Camila took courage to speak at the (âOh my God that girl is) literally so beautifulâ girl from which she felt intimidated by starting that adorable brief conversation âHi, I like your shirtâ, âThanks. I like your jacketâ just before it was her turn to get in for her audition. In May 2012, Lauren and Camila were both 15 years old. Lauren and Camila saw each other again for the first time on July 25th, two months later, in Miami on the first day of boot camp, and it was Lauren herself who went to Camila: âYouâre the Cuban girl!â. In July 2012, Lauren was 16 and Camila was 15.
Lauren said: âShe came back into my life when I was 18. I was on tour and I was in my room in a hotel somewhere, and she called me.â Let me explain to you why I think this is true.
Lauren and Luxy reconnected with each other after Lucyâs car accident that took place on May 15, 2015. Lauren was really 18 in May 2015, and we can rule out The Reflection Tour dates because it started on February 27, 2015, and ended April 6, 2015. We can also rule out these other show dates that 5H did: April 11 in Jackson Township, New Jersey - April 13 at Live! with Kelly and Michael in New York - April 19 Lauren was at Coachella with Keana, Britt, and other friends - April 22 at the Worldwide Radio Summit in Hollywood - April 25 at Radio Disney Music Awards 2015 in Los Angeles - May 8 at Channel 93.3 Summer Kickoff 2015 in Chula Vista, San Diego - May 9 at Wango Tango 2015 in Carson, Los Angeles (May 9, rumors about Camila and Louis Tomlinson just because paparazzi believed they were together when Louis was actually together with Liam outside the Project Club L.A., and C who was at the club next door) - May 15 at KDWB Radio Show in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The rest of their program and possible date: May 16 at Kiss Concert 2015 in Mansfield, Massachusetts - May 19 at Dancing with the Stars in Los Angeles - May 30 at G-A-Y in London (rumors about Lauren and Louis Tomlinson this time, born because 5H went to Libertine nightclub with Louis and Niall) - May 31 at Britainâs Got More Talent in London - June 2 at Capital FM in Birmingham, England - June 5 at Good Morning Britain in London - June 6 at Capital FM Summertime Ball 2015 in London - June 12 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii - June 14 at LA Pride 2015 - June 18 at Jimmy Kimmel Live in Los Angeles - June 20 at B96 Pepsi Summer Bash 2015 in Bridgeview, Illinois - June 23 at San Diego County Fair 2015 - 28 June at Show Of The Summer 2015 in Hershey, Pennsylvania - July 10 at Rockefeller Plaza in New York. July 15, 2015, beginning of Reflection: The Summer Tour.
June 27, 2015 Lauren turned 19, and do you guys remember the events of those days? Because I do.
On June 24, 2015, Lauren celebrated her birthday in advance at the famous sushi restaurant âKatsuyaâ. Among the guests were the girls, her mom Clara, some friends, including Jill (the same Jill/Jillian Gutowitz who worked with Zack Sang and who 5H met on April 22, 2015, at the Worldwide Radio Summit, which lasted for three days but they were present for two: 22 and 23. The same Jill who wrote the article for AfterEllen on January 25, 2016, about her experiences with women who denied their sexuality. Remember the story of Lauren Jordan, right?), and Noah Benardout (may he rest in peace). Still no Lucia, not even on the days when Lauren returned to Miami to celebrate with her family before resuming the program from the 28. As I already said, The Reflection Summer Tour began on July 15, 2015, and Lucyâs first public reappearance took place on one of the tour dates, that is, July 27 at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
From that moment on, we saw Lucille appear on multiple occasions in hops through time. After the July 27th date, we saw her during the trip to Hawaii with Lauren and Keana in September, followed by the concert that the girls had on October 10 in the Bahamas, where they stayed with their families and friends for a few days. After the Bahamas, the mess happened between 5H because they found out about Camilaâs departure from the group which initially shouldâve been immediate, but for which they fought and gained another year. That, was also the time when Laucy signed their PR contract. As we know from Lauren herself, that was the worst and darkest time for her. That was the beginning of her numbness.
On October 23, they were on their way to Italy and Lauren wrote on her dark diary, the one shown to us in Episode 8 of her Attunements. On October 24, they arrived in Milan for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2015 occurred on October 25, and on October 28, in Madrid instead, there was the interview with Alyson Eckmann, the journalist Camila flirted with while Lauren was sitting right next to her.
Going forward, in November we have:
- Rumors about Lauren and Julius Dein (his friend who is a YouTube magician).
-The release of IKWYDLS including the rumors about Camila and Shawn and Michael Clifford (who was already in the picture) who were âvying for herâ.
- Beginning of Laurenâs coming out plan which included: 1) The release of The Vampsâ album on November 23rd, that is, a week after the release of IKWYDLS, and which included the track âI Found A Girlâ. Joe O'Neill, the manager of The Vamps, liked that famous tweet. Despite the efforts to make us believe that Bleahren (sorry for the Italian pun I made here, but âbleahâ in Italian is equivalent to the âewwâ to indicate something gross, and therefore Bleah-Ren) Brauren was real and that the girl involved was Lucille and not Camila, theyâve miscalculated since Lauren and Brad âdatedâ in 2014 when Lucy had not yet returned into Laurenâs life. But since the album and consequently the song came out on November 23, 2015, they tried to manipulate peopleâs minds as usual. 2) Jillâs article that served to connect and more or less âconfirmâ the story between this Jordan and her childhood friend, Lauren-Lucy.
- December: completion of the 7/27 album + Dina LaPoltâs entry + renegotiation of the contracts (mostly DNAâs contracts) + FIFTH HARMONY MUSIC, INC. created by LAND on December 21 to prepare for the transfer of the 5H trademark, the FIFTH HARMONY PARTNERSHIP, of which they became owners from April 27, 2016 + change of management from Faculty Management: Jared Paul and Janelle Lopez, to Maverick Management: Larry Rudolph, Dan Dymtrow, and Tara Beikae. [All things that were possible ONLY THANKS to the exit of C from the group]
- January 2016, we have Lauren and Lucrezia who came back from Colombia to then taking a road trip for Lucyâs birthday week.
- Jillâs article came out and coincidentally, by pure chance, exactly two days later, on January 27, 2016, Camila and Dinah were hacked.
- On March 9, 2016, Lauren, Normani, Andrea, Dinah, and Keana went to pierce their ears, or rather, Laurmainah pierced their ears, mama Dre and Keana just accompanied them. During her turn, Lauren asked Keana to take her phone to make a video. In the meantime, Mani was filming Lauren, and again by pure chance, Keana, who was in the heart of the frame, took Laurenâs phone as sheâd asked, and both the lock screen and the home screen portrayed a picture of Lucania during a photoshoot. Same picture Lucy herself posted on Instagram on April 10th to leave no doubt.
- April 24, 2016, Coachella together.
- Luciana went with 5H in London, in May, during the promotion of the 7/27 album. (+ Camren video of May 28, 2016)
- She was present during the start of the tour in South America on June 26th (in the evening during the concert, L danced Big Bad Wolf for her, but thatâs not the famous video, that was on September 5) and 27th to celebrate Lâs birthday together (picture of the 27th of them in Buenos Aires).
- June 27, 2016, on Lâs birthday, Jill posted a picture with L from the birthday dinner of the year before, further confirming the story of âJordanâ.
- August 1, the national girlfriend day, L posted a picture of her and Lucy.
- From August 12 to 21, Lucy was with them. The night after the concert on the 13th in Rochester Hills, Michigan, videos in which Lucilla appeared during Lauren Fullerâs birthday celebration at the hotel for dinner. On the 14th in Noblesville, Indiana, during Gonna Get Better and Big Bad Wolf Lauren smiled in Lucyâs direction who was in the audience. On the 18th in Virginia Beach, Virginia, a fan met Laucy in a movie theater restroom, taking a selfie with Lauren (C posted a picture of her in the dark with the words of Bad Things âdonât think that I can explain itâ the same night).
- On September 4 and 5 Lucippe returned. On the 5th in Houston, Texas, the famous âsuper HDâ video took place in which Lauren danced Big Bad Wolf for Lucy, even pointing to her during her verse. [On September 6, Midland, Texas, during the Q&A, Lauren wore the same dress that Lucy was wearing to the concert the night before, and at the same time, she sat next to C and got jealous when C complimented a fan by sending her flying kisses. Ahh⊠The irony]
Now. Letâs move on to the part of the podcast where Lauren explains about the kiss with Lucza at her uncle and auntâs wedding, how her aunt âsuper innocentlyâ posted the pictures on Facebook that her âunreal invasive fansâ found and posted, how Perez Hilton outed her to the world by posting an article with those pictures, how she did nothing for a week, and that after thinking âOk, it happened. People know. What am I gonna do?â, she wrote that letter against Trump as her own way of coming out.
On November 4, 2016, Lauren and Lucynda did the âfamousâ photoshoot in New Orleans called âBare With Meâ. Lauren flew to NOLA right after Halloween, got back to Miami to vote, then returned to New Orleans on the 10th along with her family for the wedding. Lucianna was also with her on the 10th for the rehearsal/bowling with all of Laurenâs relatives. Meanwhile Orange Trumpeter was elected on the 8th, and many celebrities were preparing to write a letter through Billboard against him and his supporters. Labels and management saw it as a perfect opportunity to get her to come out also considering how much Lauren has always been vocal on the subject, and THEY contacted Billboard to get her to participate in exchange of the exclusive of her coming out. All that was missing was the evidence to make sure that there had been no connection with Camila, and that was the reason for the kiss at the wedding on the 11th.
On November 13, the wedding photographer posted those pictures on his website, including the one of the kiss. And Iâm sorry, Lolo, I love you but, really? Who are you kidding? The pictures didnât start spreading because her âunreal invasive fansâ found them on her auntâs Facebook page where sheâd posted them âsuper innocentlyâ. The pictures started spreading after the photographer posted them! And you know whatâs even more funny? That to see those pictures on the website, you needed an access password. So what are you saying here, Lo? That your âunreal invasive fansâ were so good, to even have hacked their way into the website for pictures they didnât even know existed? It wasnât your team, was it? Oh, okay. My bad.
Sarcasm aside. The pictures started to spread, Perez tweeted about it on the 14th, and in the meantime Lauren had time to write the letter that was approved by the labels and sent to Billboard (on the 14th), who approved it a couple of days after it was sent (on the 16th), and which they then published it in the article two days later (on the 18th). In all of this, on November 15, 2016, the girls all went to Epicâs party. Since we know very well that most of the cases of coming out as bisexual in the industry made by a female celebrity occur in succession with the connection with a guy, that night there was the PR proposal between Typo Dolour Signal and Lauren that he obviously accepted, and in fact, he was there that night at that party too (Picture of C with a tear mark on her cheek).
Now, the icing on the cake of the Laucyâs PR: Nicole Cartolano. Nicole is a friend of Lecyâs with whom she had already worked together and who also posted pictures of Lauren on November 17 and 22, 2016, one on December 31, 2016, together with Marian Hill taken backstage after Laurenâs performance with them on the 30th, the night before, for the Snow Globe Festival in South Lake Tahoe, California, and the one of Laucy (with the piñata) on January 10, taken the same night to celebrate Luciliaâs birthday at midnight and that Lauren also used to post it for wish her a happy birthday. That was the last public interaction between the two. *Slow entry of Tympans Dollhouse Signalized in the picture from January 4, 2017, thanks to that tweet*.
On January 21, 2017, Lauren and Lucy were at the same Womenâs March, but separately (single), and we havenât seen them together anymore. LuBYE. On March 22, 2017, both âBare With Meâ and the interview article Nicole did with MTV News (she confirmed that Laucy had been together by having an on-again, off-again for years and also said a lot of other bullshit like the fact that the girls were nervous because they didnât know how their parents wouldâve responded) came out. On August 13, 2018, Nicole officially apologized to Lucy for being angry with her for posting the pictures and therefore for having outed her and for having taken part in the MTV interview without their permission. There was also the screenplay made by Nicoleâs mom to make everything even more true.
Bullshit on bullshit on bullshit. Number 1, Lauren herself confirmed in this podcast that her parents knew about her, and said how much she loved Lucreâs âIâm out and proudâ part.
Number 2, Nicole posted a preview of the pictures on March 18, 2017, so if she really wanted to stop her before the publication on the 22nd, she wouldâve had time to do so.
Number 3, Lucita came out publicly on her own with that Spanish post on Instagram on November 20, 2016, saying in summary that she was anything but straight because she didnât want to label herself (she did it years later by saying she was a lesbian).
Number 4, as Lusia also confirmed in that post where Nicoleâs mom left that comment, Nicole signed a non-disclosure agreement form. If she had actually violated it without having had a release and written consent form, she wouldâve been sued.
Number 5, if Luciferase really wanted to have that conversation in private with Nicoleâs mom, she might very well have done so. She couldâve contacted her and answered her IN PRIVATE for real, and not via IG where EVERYONE saw and took the side of poor, poor Luckless.
Number 6, the biggest proof that shows the hypocrisy of all this, Lucasta continued to work with Nicole. Their last work dates back to November 25, 2019.
Okaay, sure⊠sure, because it was normal for her to continue working with the person who outed her, wasnât it? Peopleâs lies never cease to amaze me. For that matter, Nicole also posted a picture of their âadventureâ as they made their way to the photoshoot location on November 1, 2017, and continued to wish them both a happy birthday with posts every year.
And lastly, on June 6, 2020, we have the Lucerneâs video leaked (+ old pictures and videos of 5H) where she burned pictures of Lauren and of the two of them together in 2017, accompanied by the tweets occurred two days later, in which she explained that she was hacked and that she burned the pictures for a closure. Then, exactly 20 days later, that is on June 26, 2020, the PAPER Magazine article of Laurenâs interview came out. What a coincidence! In that article, Lauren explained, along with other things, that sheâd been in love with her best friend for 7 years.
Lauren, honey, the maths, the maths⊠If according to your words you fell in love with her at 15, got together with her at 18, and broken up at 20, how can these be 7 years? Itâs 5 years⊠And as if it wasnât enough, still according to your words, after 1 year and 8 months (from mid-May 2015 to mid-January 2017), 2 months of which public because of the wedding pictures, of the relationship you wanted at all costs, âall inâ and ânow weâre gonna be in this relationshipâ, you broke up with her because she was really toxic, and after less than a month, you started dating an even more toxic person without the proper time to heal?? How do you expect me to believe you? And Iâm putting aside the fact that I know theyâre both PR relationships. Iâm speaking out of logic. How? How can I believe you? How does this make any sense?
Personally, yes, I believe Lauren and Lucy have a past. Laurenâs first kiss was when she was 13 (8th grade) with her boyfriend at the time, Dominic, but I think Lucy was her first kiss with a girl. And I think it happened when she was 15, but in 2011, so long before Lucy left. Lauren dated Paul Martinez from June 4, 2011, to the end of July (around 23/24). From after Paul, until her very first PR at X-Factor, Keaton Stromberg, she was single. I truly believe that before she met Camila, Lauren and Lucy did everything Lauren said. I really believe Lauren experimented with her in secret, but I donât believe in anything else she said at all.
This is my opinion. And in my opinion, Lauren always knew she was queer, and Lucy was the first with whom she could experience the attraction and the feelings towards girls she had always felt and concealed deep inside herself. But they were friends. Just friends. Friends who messed around and experimented together in secret given the environment that surrounded them. Lucy then returned to live in Puerto Rico and they simply drifted apart because of the distance and Laurenâs busy schedule with 5H. When she came back into Laurenâs life, they rekindled their friendship. Just that. Also because, Camila, hello? Camila entered Laurenâs heart the same year Lucy left and never get out of it. Not to mention that Lucy had a girlfriend, Sarah Scott Narcise, before getting together with Nicole Marie RendĂłn in March 2017. I honestly think that Lucy was also giving advice to Lauren about her relationship with Camila, and I also think that now they really arenât friends anymore for something we donât know about, even though I have my theories⊠But anyway. Lauren needed a beard to be able to come out, Lucy needed visibility for her modeling career and, at the time, also for her music which, however, never saw the light of day. The labels approved because they wouldâve done anything to keep their chosen one out of the gay light. Camila also approved. Boom, PR.
I donât believe all the other bullshit she said during the podcast. Because if theyâd been true, they wouldâve made logical sense. A sense theyâve been trying, and failing, to give for years. If Lauren really didnât want to come out, she wouldnât have done a photoshoot with Lucy a week before the wedding with the intention of using that same photoshoot to come out. She would not have kissed Lucy in a public place during the wedding pictures in front of a professional photographer hired for the event, knowing full well that those pictures would eventually have been published by the bride and groom, her aunt and uncle, and the photographer himself. If she wanted so badly a picture of her kissing her girlfriend, drunk or not, she wouldâve taken her fucking phone and take selfies. It wasnât the fansâ or Perezâs fault. It was the management that was following the plan.
And Iâm supposed to, what exactly? Forget all these things, things that have been proofed multiple times in the past, because Lauren, or Camila, or management, or labels, or their contracts, must continue with their stupid narrative? Because Camila must continue to look straight and continue to look in love with Shalt Menstruated because the señorito is about to release his documentary and his album? Because Camilaâs movie is about to come out? Because Laurenâs own album is about to be released and because the subject matter of her female-pronounced songs must only and exclusively be related to Lucy? (Although I think her album will be out next year. I think a song with female pronunciation is coming out soon. And no, Iâm sorry, I donât think itâs Burning)
Guys, come onâŠ
Think about it. She used Lucy as a shield to tell part of her story with Camila that happened in 2014. It all fits. Even the story told through songs from Camilaâs cocky POV, including âLike Friends Doâ, âEyes on Youâ, âCleopatraâ, âLeave for Goodâ, and a couple from her last album like âShouldâve Said Itâ and âFeel It Twiceâ.
I understand why many of you have been hurt by this podcast and by Lauren herself. I understand why a lot of you are angry about the things she said. I see you, I understand, I really do. And everyone is free to feel whatever they want, Iâm not saying otherwise. But I really donât understand why youâre hiding or why youâre abandoning the ship. Authors who donât wanna write anymore. Accounts closed. Names changed. Hope lost. This, all this, makes me angry and hurt. Because you fell for it. And you know why you fell for it? Because Lauren changed her approach. Leaving aside the part just before when she said: âEven when I talk about it, and I donât talk about it because Iâve learned to just ignore it because-â and there, I swear I had to pause because I burst out laughing, and I was like: âBitch, youâre the one who pulled this out of your ass out of nowhere right this second, what are you saying?â. She went on by saying, and she knows us so well because of this: âI just chose to ignore it at a certain point because getting angry to them would it mean that it was real and validate it more for themâ.
And itâs true. This non-angry approach of hers, worked like a charm. Laurenâs older, sheâs more mature than before. Although she was very nervous, she managed to explain everything calmly. The fact that she was emotional and almost cried in many parts, it really gave an extra boost to what she tried to sell. And Iâm not saying she faked almost crying. Hell, no. That was super true and hard for her. Iâm saying though, that itâs really easy to manipulate peopleâs minds, and Lauren used her real pain, the real suffering she has gone through over the years to tell this charade. Thatâs why it seemed so real. And Iâm supposed to fall for that shit just because thatâs what theyâve wanted for years, right? Convenient much?
Guys, please. Youâre smarter than that, use those beautiful brains. For example, the fact that Lauren said: âI was queer, but she was notâ, wrong as you want it to be, and âCamila and I were just really good friends at that timeâ, yeah, sure, Jan. Doesnât the very fact that she used the past tense make you realize that it was done to completely detach herself from her IN THE PRESENT? Everything she said was for something. Everything had a purpose. And the goal is always the same. Make us stop shipping âem. Putting a label on C only served the Shoestoremila purpose, nothing else. And those were words that came out of the mouth of the one who says she doesnât like labeling people. The same one who was pissed that someone had outed her before she wanted to. Do you really think sheâs that hypocritical?
The fact that she put all the CS in the same box, especially when she talked about the Daddy situation, WAS DONE ON PURPOSE. She couldnât fail to generalize because their purpose is, and will be for a long time to come, to kill Camren. That means the whole fandom. Not just invasive elements. But really all the CS. The purpose was to make us feel guilty. The purpose is to make us accept that it was never real, and since we care about them, to make us continue to support them individually and not as a couple, even though she knows that the real CS do it regardless. This, is called manipulation, guys.
Think about everything else too. The inconsistency. The holes in her story. The lack of explanations. And the fact that during the story of how it all happened, she jumped from one theme to another and therefore managed to deflect and not completely finish one before moving on to the other, doesnât it make you understand that she didnât want to give too many details? And when does that usually happen? She knew weâd analyze her. She knew she couldnât say too much. When she talked about Lucy, she knew that WE know she was talking about Camila, and with too many details, it would also have been obvious to the others because WE wouldâve pointed it out to everyone. I mean, itâs obvious enough in itself, imagine if sheâd fed us more information that we wouldâve compared in the timeline.
Please, guys. I know that it feels like somethingâs changed, but itâs not. Itâs really not. Iâm appealing to all of you. Open your eyes. Reason. I know many of you still have conflicting emotions and feelings, and thatâs okay. If youâre still upset, if you still wanna cry, then cry. Do whatever helps you feel better because, especially after the haters have come to bite your asses, youâre entitled to feel the way you do. But please, please, donât give up. If you give up, you just play their game. You just do them a favor. You guys had invested so much of your time, so much of your passion, so much of yourselves to just, give up. Think of all weâve been through, especially those whoâve been in the fandom for years. Think about how happy Camren makes you. They were there for you when you needed them. When you were going through hard times. I know theyâve helped a lotta people.
And think about this too. Lauren herself said at the beginning of the podcast: âThe news and the media are constantly spinning narratives for your clicks so they can make moneyâ. And what do you think this podcast was for? Itâs always the same shit. Have you not noticed how the very same news and media have ALL talked about them? Didnât you notice how My Oh My magically returned into the charts? How 50ft surpassed the 9 million streams on Spotify? And you still have doubts?
This is instead for the CS who get often angry about their actions. I personally think itâs pointless to blame Lauren and Camila for every single thing they do that has been PLANNED for them. Especially Camila as far as Shonas is concerned. Thereâs a pattern here too. Lauren had her light PR with Lucia. Lauren then had her heavy PR with Typic Dole Sight while Camila had a light one with Eatchu. And now Camilaâs having a heavy one. Câs one is heavier simply because theyâre much more famous than PRen (Tyren) were. So, guys, be patient. Thereâs really no point in getting angry and blaming them. Itâs a waste of energy. Itâs useless to blame them if theyâre gonna continue to do so over the years to come. Theyâre just still trying to get past their original contracts and survive in the industry at the same time. Sooner or later, I HOPE, they will be free to tell the truth or the truth will come out on its own.
Well, Iâm done. Jeez, that was long, wasnât it? But I hope it was worth it. I hope Iâve cleared your heads a little bit and instilled some hope again. I also hope I made you smile with all those nicknames and my sarcasm. I especially hope that wherever you are, youâre having a good day, and if not, then I hope it has improved at least a little bit with this post. And thank you so much, Stuck. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to use my voice for the first time publicly/virtually. You, above all, keep on being one of the lights and NEVER let them turn you off. I love you guys. Stay safe. Stay strong. Stay patient. With love, F.
I leave you with these two pearls:
Number 1. Lauren said something else too. She said: âDonât trust me. Go research. Go look this shit up yourselfâ. I know she said it for a completely different context, but I found it really funny given the situation.
Number 2. This is a small scene that automatically created itself in my head as soon as I finished listening to Wonder. I titled it: The sad and short story of the making of âWonderâ.
Enjoy:
*on the phone*
Shawl Mendicant: âHey, buddy. I know you were a huge Fifth Harmony fan and I know you love my fake girlfriend, so I was thinking⊠could you help me? You know, I need her to stay relevant, but to do that, I also need to release music and completely take all the credit from other people because, you know, the most I do is change a sentence or two in my style to make people think that I wrote all my songs.â
Sam Smith: ââŠâŠâŠokay?â
Shawnita Menorrhagia: âSo, I was wondering, can I copy your homework? You can totally refuse if you want to, but Iâm hoping to appeal to the love you have for 5H and Camila, and maybe help a friend out?â
Sam Smith: âYeah, sure, you can copy my homework. Anything for my girls. Just, change it up a bit so it doesnât sound too obvious you just copied it.â
Shonas Mended: âDonât worry. Iâve got this. Thanks, man.â - *ends the call*
Sam Smith looking at the phone with an incredulous expression and one hand over his heart: âI came out as a non-binary, you insensitive asshole!â
Shoes Mentionable from the other room: âCameeela! He said yes!â *reaching then Camila and Lauren in the living room where Lauren is lying with her head resting on Camilaâs legs whoâs running her fingers through her hair with one hand and holding the book that sheâs reading with the other one* âYou were right, all I had to do was mention you girls.â
Lauren chuckling and continuing to pet Cleo whoâs lying at the foot of the couch with one hand: âTold youâ, to then adding: âAnd please, I know youâre excited because of the news but keep your voice downâ, continuing to caress Sofiâs head whoâs sleeping on top of her with the other one.
Shapeless Mentality: âOh, sorry.â
Camila without looking away from her book: âSamâs really nice. Iâm sure they wouldâve said yes even without the need of mentioning us.â
Lauren: âHmm, Iâm not so sure about that, babe. Yes, theyâre very nice, but weâre powerful in their minds, so it was an added incentive for them to say yes.â
Shaved Mentholated: âWho are they? Werenât we talking about Sam?â
Camila who was giggling at her girlfriendâs words:
Lauren:
Sinu from the kitchen:
Cleo who was nibbling her toy:
Even Thunder, Leo, and Eugene from outside into the yard:
*the end*
Chon Mendable: âWonderâ - Sam Smith: âOne Last Songâ
____
OMG I am speechless. Iâm really still digesting this whole story because itâs amazing but I wanted to start by saying hello to you and telling you my name, my name is Marite. It is a pleasure to meet you dear friend. I donât want to write too much because your words are much more important than mine but I wanted to thank you for trusting me and my blog to tell me your story. That side of the story that, being new and not having been a harmonizer from the beginning, I never learned. I intended to ask for more information about Laucyâs Timeline but what you have told is a gem. A gem that shows that the bastards of the industry cannot fool the fans because we pay attention to everything and it is not easy for us to fall for their shit. I think the power we fans have is so great that if we all came together, we could bring down this whole fucking fake empire that they have created. That said, Laucyâs story is surprising. As planned and how each person involved had to do their part on the chessboard. Incredible. Now that you tell me that story, I think it fits the one I wrote in my once upon a time post. Sure, yours is true and has everything that mine doesnât. I have tried to keep this blog open for all who wish to come and air their ideas, their thoughts, their tea. And you dear friend, you have been one of the best so far. Youâve given us that support that the fandom so badly needed and I really appreciate it. I also appreciate your humor, the nicknames have been so hilarious and Iâm still laughing. Thank you for daring to tell this part of the story and reopen the can of worms of a PR that right now resurfaces with that Lauren interview. With a purpose, itâs true. And something tells me that we will see much more very soon. Thank you for your support, my friend. And you know, you have my blog at your disposal for whatever you need. And if you need to talk or anything else. I greatly appreciate that we can continue to keep this ship afloat among ourselves. Among a group of intelligent people who have been hurt by someone we have always loved very much even though we know the reason for all that. We canât give up now because if we do it like you say they will win and I personally donât plan to indulge them in that. Thank you very much for all dear friend and I hope you have a nice day. I send you a hug and I hope you stay safe.

Part 2 of Clarke And Lexa Make a Porno, because why the fuck not.
Part 1.
"No. Absolutely not."
Anya's wolfish grin is no good omen. Lexa feels a sense of dread wash over her and tries in vain to assuage her nerves by holding her friend's gaze. Anya wouldn't look this sure if she didn't have some card up her sleeve.
Lexa throws a furtive glance around, checks that her co-workers are still focused on the German porn telenovela. It's only when she's sure that the action on-screen will keep them rooted for a while that she turns back to Anya, trying but failing to meet her eyes.
She overcompensates with another glance around the room and a low hiss. "I can't believe I'm saying this, but am I not too," she licks her lips, gathering the courage, "'vanilla' to do it?"
Anya shrugs like it's a no-brainer; crosses her arms and props her booted feet on Lexa's desk. "That's exactly the point. You're a lesbian Disney princess. Pretty sure if you started singing the whole fucking fauna of Capitola would follow you around."
Lexa levels Anya with a glare and tries to push her feet off the desk, to no avail.
(Seriously, what's it worth being editor if she can't even have her subjects' respect? She wishes this job was less about the headaches and more about the self-indulgent moments of microscopic tyranny.)
The feet might not budge, but Anya will. Lexa is sure of it. She draws herself taller and tucks on her most authoritative scowl. "I won't do it."
Anya plucks an imaginary cigarette from her mouth and throws it away without a care in the world. She reaches behind her and drags forth a heavy wooden box, filled to the brim withâ
"My vinyls."
Lexa is in a daze.
She thought she'd lost all her vinyls to time and moving. She mourned each one of them for at least a year, cried many a night away clutching her record player to dear life, lamenting their shared loss.
They had a real connection.
But it turns out her vinyls weren't lost after all, and her tears were for naught. They were safe all along, albeit in different hands, and she'd known nothing of it, like a mother who lets her children wander about without aim nor authority.
How can she ever have kids if she can't even take care of her prized vinyls?
Lexa feels a prick of self-righteous indignation at the betrayal and puffs out her chest. "Why do you have all my vinyls?"
"I think you mean all my vinyls," Anya corrects with a lazy flurry of one hand towards the box.
"You don't even own a record player."
"How the fuck would you know?"
Lexa raises an eyebrow at her friend. "I come over all the time?"
"I could hide it while you're there."
"And then you'd never find it again, because that's what happens every time you try to hide something from me."
Anya shrugs and watches as Lexa picks one of the vinyls and turns it over in her hands, reading the track list on the back with the reverence one would a millennium-old parchment. Then she looks up at Anya with a stern glare.
"Over half of these were stolen from my house."
Anya shrugs again with infuriating nonchalance and Lexa wishes she had a pencil nearby just so she could snap it in two with one hand. Or stab one of Anya's eyes with it.
"Maybe I just rescued them from the actual malefactor," drawls Anya.
"We both know the real culprit sits across from me and has been wearing the same socks for the past three weeks."
Nailed it.
When she looks at her friend, however, all she sees is that same old resting bitch face that never seems to go away.
"Wow, Lexa," Anya deadpans. "Now you've really hurt my feelings."
Sometimes, Lexa wonders if Anya really has a rock where her heart should be. A supernatural, blood-pumping rock, of course, but a rock nonetheless. Or, maybe, Anya is a psychopath. Maybe the blood money theory wasn't so far-fetched after all. That would explain the brazen lack of empathy for everyone else's feelings, most of all Lexa's. What does it say about Lexa that her one true friend is someone who sneezes literally every time Lexa says 'I love you'?
Not that Lexa says it a lot. Only once or twice every few years.
Just enough to have noticed the pattern.
"Are you really trying to blackmail me with vinyls?"
Anya fakes an affronted gasp, laying a hand on her heart. "Would I ever. Think of it as... an incentive."
Lexa really does love Anya, despite her friend's... unique demeanor. Anya helps her come out of her shell â by taking up all the space and forcing her out of her own metaphorical home â and every once in a while she likes to make sure Anya is aware of her gratitude. Sometimes, though, things get really fucking weird.
Lexa would still do anything for her best friend.
"Let's imagine, hypothetically - very hypothetically," she stresses, although Anya's burgeoning smirk tells Lexa she isn't so easily fooled, "that I agreed. What would happen next?"
Anya takes her feet off Lexa's desk and sits up straighter, perhaps aware of the importance of this moment. This, Lexa decides, will determine her answer.
"Well first, I'd have to get you a costar. Then we'd sign some legally binding shit, find a crew, and make the damn movie. Simple as that."
Anya leans forward, looking into her eyes. In Anya's, she sees honesty and a pressing need to reassure. It takes some of the pressure off her shoulders right away.
"Look, Lexa, you can say no. But your name won't be on anything related to the movie and I promise no one in this shitty town will ever find out you did this."
This is why Anya is Lexa's best friend. And it's why Lexa would do anything for her.
Even star in a porno.
"Okay."
Anya's inner smile must be really, really big, because Lexa knows how hard she tries to tamper its outward expression â and still her lips manage to lift into a grotesque grimace. Coming from Anya, it's the equivalent of a blissful grin.
"Okay?"
Lexa nods and closes her eyes, bracing herself for a bone-crushing hug. It never comes. When she opens her eyes, Anya's resting bitch face is back on.
"What, did you want a fucking hug?"
It's a blessing to have her rude friend back, Lexa guesses, because seeing Anya almost smile is fifty shades of unsettling. So she rolls her eyes and rolls with it.
Her next question demands her full focus, lest she makes an even bigger fool of herself than usual.
Lexa breathes in, makes sure all her co-workers are still otherwise entertained, breathes out. Smooths out a non-existent wrinkle in her pants, wets her lips for courage.
"Anyway," she treads with caution, "do you have someone in mind for the other main role?"
It's fitting that Harper McIntyre's hit song One More Betyreyal (one of her less inspired titles, if Lexa may say so) starts playing in that moment, for the look in Anya's eyes speaks of nothing but danger. Lexa wonders how much planning went into this conversation, so Anya could plan all her gut punches in advance.
"Clarke Griffin."
No. No. Anyone but her.
Clarke Griffin is the new recruit, although Lexa hardly understands how there can be someone new considering the station is broke and theyâre already overstaffed â and none of them make nearly enough money for how much they laze around all day.
Clarke came from out of town with a fancy degree and was directly hired as an editor. She voices the early afternoon newscasts and Lexa curses the one-hour period during which she's forced to cohabitate with Clarke every day.
Apparently, Clarke had taken a liking to unnerving her, be it by smirking at her every time she catches Lexa staring or by making all sorts of inappropriate comments â to her ear. Lexa hates how much it affects her, but how can she possibly focus on reporting about Lionel "Real Sight" Foster swallowing his own wooden eye or how Jasper Jordan rescued his own private parts from the jaws of two slats of an unassuming park bench if someone keeps doing everything in their power to distract her?
Lexa has a theory (an iron-clad theory, if she may say so herself), and it's that Clarke is trying to get her fired so she can take her shift. It's the best shift of the day. There is no other possible explanation.
"You know what, I take it back. Now you need to convince two people to star in your porno."
"Oh, there's no need." Anya waves her argument away with staggering nonchalance. "Clarke's already said yes."
Wait, what? "But you told me we'd need to get me a costar."
Anya shrugs and Lexa is now seriously considering revisiting her psychopath theory. "I lied."
"You conniving, lying bâ"
"Careful," Anya cuts in with a raised eyebrow. "I am under protection of the Capitola Astrologers Union."
"Of which you are president, treasurer, and the only legal member," Lexa reminds her. "And I think any upstanding judge would love to know how exactly every other name on the list has joined said union posthumously."
"I am an astrologer, Lexa. I can communicate with the dead. It's in my job description."
"It scares me that you're not even aware you're describing an entirely different profession."
Lexa sits back, staring at the ceiling (and the chewing gum Murphy glued there a year ago â he could've been an Olympic jumper if he committed to work the way he does to being an asshole), trying to come to terms with a single, harrowing probability: she's going to star in a porno with Clarke Griffin.
"l don't understand why it has to be Clarke."
Anya leans forward, propping her elbows on her knees, expression serious and ready to talk shop. The last time Lexa saw her like this wasâ actually, Lexa doesn't think she's ever seen Anya like this.
"Look, I've done some market analysis and most girl on girl pairings are a blonde and a brunette." Anya raises both her hands and starts counting off fingers, "Brittana, Petramos, Holstein, Wayhaught, Supercorp, Joanarty, Choni, the inaptly named Shoni, Deanoru, Dana and Alice, Bette and Tina, Catradora, Villaneve, Clexaâ"
"What's Clexa?"
"I don't know, some chicks from this fucking terrible CW show."
"Do you like it?"
"Do I like what?"
"Clexa."
"Dude, I don't even know their fucking names!" Anya exclaims, exasperated. As if she's the victim here. "The only Clexa I ship is you and Blondie. Naked. On my porno. Clarke and Lexa. Clexa. Havin' very hot sexa."
"Smart," Lexa deadpans.
"I know."
"Why can't it be Niylah? She's blonde, too."
Anya's smirk is five hundred shades of gross. "I know you'd love to get up close and personal with Niylah's knick-knacks, but no."
Lexa decides to let the comment fly for the sake of her own sanity.
"Why Clarke, though?"
"Because you two have chemistry, you fucking dimwit."
Lexa snorts. Chemistry. Lexa has never heard of something so absurd. She and Clarke have as much chemistry as Harper McIntyre and any semblance of originality.
Which is to say, none at all.
"She makes very inappropriate comments," she argues instead, knowing full well that pressing on the topic of chemistry will only open way for some trademark crass joke from Anya.
"Yeah," her friend agrees, like it's obvious. "Because she knows you love them."
She most certainly does not.
"I most certainly do not."
"You do. Your freakishly tiny ears go red whenever she flirts with you. Your step falters when she makes one of those comments, for fuck's sake," Anya observes, pointing in Lexa's general direction, before leaving forward and laying a hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry to tell you this, but you, my friend, are a walking lesbian cliché."
Lexa takes Anya's hand off her shoulder. "Can you please stop insulting my tragically conspicuous homosexuality?"
"Oh please," Anya scoffs. "I'm bisexual, I can say whatever I want."
"If my step actually faltered - which they don't - it would be because her comments are annoying, off-putting, unprofessional, inopportune, and... and inappropriate", she finishes lamely.
"And you fucking love them."
"I don't."
Anya leans back on her chair with an evil smirk, propping her feet on the table and crossing them at the ankles. Lexa tries to push them off to no avail.
"Legalities aside, it's very simple. Clarke has already said yes. I just recorded you saying yes."
Lexa sputters, "You what--"
"You're both legally bound now." Anya shrugs. "Look at it this way: it will be very educational. You'll finally learn how to make a girl come, and get paid for it. Sort of."
A beat of silence.
"Anya, are you aware that you say something at least vaguely criminal every five sentences? Something that could actually put you in prison?"
Anya clicks her tongue, sinking farther into her chair, and lowers her sunglasses to her eyes.
"I've got friends everywhere, Lex. Let's just say I've dipped more than my fingers in my fair share of pies, if you catch my drift." A second later, she lowers her sunglasses just enough to reveal her eyes. "That means my tongue. My tongue's been in a lot of pies, too."
Lexa doesn't doubt that for a second.
"What I need to know is," Anya adds, taking off her sunglasses and throwing them across the room, "will you dip your fingers in the porn pie?"
Like this conversation hasn't caused enough trauma for thirty lifetimes.
"If I say no, will you still give me back my vinyls?"
"Absolutely fucking not."
Lexa swallows, clenches her jaw, and thinks of all those lonely nights spent in the couch clutching her record player and sharing cookie dough ice cream with it, longing for long-gone times when she'd dance to the mellow voices of the likes Billy Ocean and Ella Fitzgerald.
"My answer is yes."

oi do u have a favourite anime
haha that's a hell of a question
as far as TV anime goes, I think it still has to be Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! (æ ćç ă«ăŻæăćșăăȘïŒEizĆken ni wa Te o Dasu na!), a series about three schoolgirls who become a mini anime studio: an imaginative autistic girl who is constantly transforming her surroundings into drawings of elaborate, intricate science fiction worlds; the daughter of two actors who is a full on sakubuta who aspires to be a great character animator; and their tall ruthless but secretly very caring friend who assumes the producer role and battles the student council to secure their chance to continue making anime. they live in this chaotic unusual town that's full of odd architecture and abandoned buildings which become the fuel for creating really distinctive animation.
and, well, it's fucking great :D I don't think anything else goes quite so far to capture the joy of this medium; it's definitely a passion project for a lot of very young animators at Science Saru (as sakugablog discusses in a whole series of posts lol) and that really shines through.
so its characters are distinctive and charming, the setting is hinted to be this really interesting near-future, and the creators evidently have a lot of literacy with the most fun anime of the 80s and 90s and what makes them compelling... and then there's just really strong direction and animation throughout. by Masaaki Yuasa's standards it's less experimental than his earlier work, but it does achieve a lot more thematic and narrative cohesion as a result, and it's got a lot of really beautiful joyful watercolour sequences as the girls imagine the worlds they want to animate.
so there's a reason my current project of becoming an animator began not long after starting this show! (and I like anime about making anime a lot now... Shirobako is a much more realistic portrayal of what it's like to work in the anime industry, and also very good, but it doesn't quite spark that same joy as Eizouken.)
so yeah, Eizouken! if you wanna watch it, I highly recommend the extremely high-effort fansub by GJM.
what about film? well iâve watched so many films in the last year and a bit of running animation night, how the hell do i even pick? but one I still love, which we havenât covered (because I have had a rule to not do the most well known Disney and Ghibli films lol) is Princess Mononoke (ăăźăźă槫 Mononoke-Hime). nowadays I can place it in context a lot more: itâs a fantasy jidaigeki movie, focused on ecological and colonial conflict, but what makes it stand out (apart from, of course, incredible direction and animation and an amazingly powerful score but thatâs kind of a given for Ghibli :p) is the level of nuance it uses to treat its conflict.
Miyazaki has had an interesting arc; in his youth he was a full on Marxist and involved in the organising at Toei, but with the fall of the USSR and growing up some more, he had something of a crisis in the 90s, which he works through in the pages of the Nausicaa manga (a much more complex and bleak work than the film adaptation) and Princess Mononoke. So I think his best works are from this period; the animation got even more elaborate in his later movies, but he seems to have given up on some level, unable to resolve the problems he raised.
Anyway, what makes Princess Mononoke for me is Lady Eboshi. Sheâs at once the leader of a colonial extractivist project, and a figure of enormous and understandable devotion and loyalty for the outcasts of feudal Japan who she took under her wing. Sheâs actively resisting the samurai and carving out a space for the lepers and former sex workers to live on their own terms. Of course, you could read this in a very negative light: a cunning boss who picked some easily exploitable populations to staff her mining project, much like sex worker ârescueâ organisations in the real world. But the movie presents life in Irontown as generally very positive: Ashitakaâs visit to the women working the forge is an especially interesting moment. The only problem is that itâs predicated on the dispossession and slaughter of the existing inhabitants of the region (the wolves, apes and boars), and itâs totally ecologically unsustainable (there wonât be iron forever).
By comparison, a lot of ecological fiction from this period tends to have a very oversimplified black and white view of it: evil men are destroying the environment, our heroes ally with the forest creatures or whatever and stop them. Princess Mononoke at least manages to show why people are motivated to live in this way: by forging guns from this bloody iron, the people of Irontown are able to secure a much better lot than they could under the samurai. And Ashitaka, who is tasked with âseeing with eyes unclouded by hateâ, is able to recognise this; âwhoâs side are you onâ asks one of the villagers later on as Ashitaka runs between all sides trying unsuccessfully to intervene to end the conflict with his supernatural strength.
I think the way the film portrays violence is really strong: itâs always so abrupt and its consequences so graphic. I do certainly enjoy a sustained well-choreographed fight, but this more ârealisticâ portrayal (obviously thereâs nothing realistic about a magic arm that lets you takes someoneâs arms off with one arrow, but in terms of how quick and nasty it is) works really well for the narrative itâs telling.
Unfortunately the film cannot resolve the puzzle it sets. Thanks to Ashitaka and Sanâs intervention to return the head of the Deer God, the people of Irontown are saved from the supernatural catastrophe, and the tone of the ending suggests theyâve learned a lesson from it; however, we donât get to see what that resolution is, beyond Ashitaka moving into Irontown and the forest spirits deciding on some level to make peace with them. The samurai arenât going to stop coveting that land; the forest population have been decimated and in any case canât stand up to firearms as weâve seen, so the pressure to extract iron remains. Miyazaki does a great job of apprehending whatâs at stake with these kinds of ecological questions, but finds himself unable to answer it - but I think that very difficulty is what makes the film so compelling for me.
If it has another flaw, it is perhaps - and I donât really know where this could fit in an already long movie - doesnât really show us what the forest spirits live like when theyâre not at war. It does a convincing job of showing the material forces that produce Irontown, and the animalsâ anger at having their forest attacked; but it would have been interesting to put a similar effort into showing the colonised population as having an equally complex society with its own pressures and driving forces. But thatâs like... thatâs asking too much lol. And the spirits are spirits, not humans, which adds an extra level of interpretation.
So Princess Mononoke would have been my answer before I began Animation Night, for sure. Is it still? Itâs definitely up there. If I wanted to name other movies that affected me on a similar level... can we count Birdboy: The Forgotten Children since Studio 4C did some work on it? :p ...yeah I didnât think so. But we can definitely count Tekkonkinkreet, which I wrote about at some length on Animation Night 52. I would also name Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul as leaving a huge impact - an undeniably extremely compelling and imaginative horror movie and broader series, which I have complicated feelings about enjoying which I might try and explicate another time.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion is another one that stands out in my mind; the story is immensely compelling but mostly I love it because it has just about the most beautiful fight/dance choreography in this entire medium imo, taking full advantage of the abstract Inu Curry-designed setting and Kalafinaâs music. and Redline is one you absolutely must watch if you havenât, Takeshi Koikeâs seven year labour of love at Madhouse: Koikeâs style is so distinctive and while his later Lupin III films tend to miss the mark on the narrative, Redlineâs story is really just a vehicle for some of the most incredible animated sequences and inventive exaggerated designs you could put to screen so it all works.
I also have a great deal of love for short film compilations: Robot Carnival, Neo Tokyo, Memories, Short Peace, the Japan Animator Expo and various early 4C projects like Genius Party, Ani*Kuri 15, and Digital Juice. The smaller scope of projects like this gives a lot more room for stylistic experiments and individual lavish sequences.
I could keep going... Yuasa again with Night Is Short Walk On Girl which is just joyful and unexpected at every turn, Iâm not even sure which Satoshi Kon to pick but maybe Tokyo Godfathers or Millenium Actress... the Eva rebuilds really came together in movie 4 and theyâre a hell of a statement... etc. etc.
So I guess you asked for one favourite and I gave you a whole list but how do you even compare these things? Theyâre all attempting such different projects! It seems pointless to say one is âbetterâ; I wouldnât want to go without seeing any of them! I love this medium because the range of possibilities for expression is just so wide, each studio burrowing into new unseen corners of visual semiotic space or whatever... ok that sounds wanky but you know. Itâs true!!
But yeah. I guess thereâs a curriculum for you, have at ;p

Sorry, itâs reserved
Honestly neither Marinette nor Chloe had been surprised when Bustier caved to Alyaâs insistent requests that the two girls not be allowed to go on the class trip to New York City. Lila had been subtly hinting about how much friendly better thing would be if they werenât there.
Mostly because just two weeks ago, Marinette had presented her class trip idea presentation; complete with a potential itinerary, pictures of the grand hotel could stay at, the fantastic tours they could go on, and exciting places they could eat. The class had been suitable wowâd.
What was surprising was when, after Bustier announced in front of the class that Marinette and Chloe couldnât go to New York much to the smug faces of the students, Adrien said, âCool. Then Iâll skip the class trip too.â He then turned to his two best friends. âWhat do you two want to do instead?â Adrien was sick and tired of the other students in the class. He had been trying to get them to believe Lila was a liar for months but no one, not even Nino, would listen to him.
Instead, they turned on the two most awesome girls in the class. Well, Adrien wasnât going to deal with it anymore.
The look of horror on Lilaâs face was priceless. However, there was no backtracking now. The dream of a romantic trip to New York, walking hand in hand with Adrien, burst into flames and was now nothing more than ashes.
âYeah, I wonât go either,â Nathaniel stated. âDoesnât seem fair. Marinette worked really hard on the idea for the trip.â He never bought Lilaâs crap, and he never understood how anyone else did.
Marinette smirked, âIâm up for whatever.â She shrugged. âIâm actually looking forward to now having to organize the trip. Or fundraise for it. And to think I was going to start working this weekend.â The bluenette made sure to look directly at Bustier and Alya, her ex-friend when she said this. âIts only October but believe me, youâll want to start making reservations fast. Nothing was done but the presentation; which you can have by the way. And just a reminder, a lot of places do require a down payment. Also, donât forget approval from the school board.â
âWhich takes like three months btw,â Chloe said with a vicious smile on her face. She was the last class president. She knew exactly how hard getting a fabulous trip approved of was. âPaperwork has to be filled out in triplicates and if you mess up on even one form, theyâll make you fill out the entire thing again.â She pulled out her phone and sent a quick text. âI just let Daddy know that he wonât have to make his annual donation this year for the trip. If you donât want us there you obviously donât need it. And to think, he usually funds thirty percent of it. But Iâm sure you already knew that.â
By the looks on the other studentsâ faces, it was clear that they didnât know that. However, pride wouldnât let them back down. Besides, Alya thought, they had the moral high ground. Who wanted to hang with bullies anyway?
To the other studentsâ credit, they did manage to raise enough money for the trip to New York. Granted, it wasnât nearly as much as they usually did. Alya, the new class president, also forgot to make most of the reservations until the last minute, and it was hard to find a fancy hotel willing to accommodate an entire class of rowdy teenagers at the last minute. So they would stay at a Holiday Inn just outside of New York City. The glasses-wearing girl wished Lila had been so busy with her charity work so she wouldâve had time to help and maybe they couldâve gotten a much better trip.
By the end, the class trip the class would be getting wasnât nearly as were or amazing as the one Marinette had presented at the beginning of the year. However, most were just happy to be going to New York.
Lila shot four exiled students a victorious look as she bragged about all the things and people sheâd get to see in New York. She had spent months trying to get Adrien to agree to go on the trip but he wouldnât budge.
She sighed dramatically, âI love New York. The only bad part are the superheroes. Last time I was there Robin and Speedy practically got into a fistfight over whoâd take me on a date. I hate getting in the way of friendships.â Â Marinette snorted. âWe leave for New York in three weeks. What will you three be doing then?â
âWaiting for a house to fall on you,â Marinette said easily.
Adrien chuckled, âWe leave for L.A in two days.â
      That got the classesâ attention.
âSorry, What?â Alya asked; suddenly getting a bad feeling in her stomach.
Chloe leaned back in her seat, âL.A. It was my idea. We decided since we couldnât go on your trip weâd go on our own. Let's see⊠our first stop in L.A, weâll be there for about a week; weâll tour some movie studios, go on set for the Star Trek movie that filming. Attending the movie premiere of the newest Marvel movie. Then leave for Indio; it's not that far from L.A, I think. But who cares. We have to be at Coachella, even if only for two days. Then we go to Metropolis. And I canât remember⊠Marinette what did you plan for us to do? It was her idea to go there.â She told the class who had looks of sheer dismay on their faces that got worse and worse as the four described the trip.
Marinette smiled, âTour of LexCorp, a tour of Daily Planet, reservations for the grand opening of Gordon Ramseyâs new restaurant, we got backstage passes for a 5 seconds of Summer concert-â She was cut off
âWhy couldnât we go see Selena Gomez again?â Adrien frowned.
Marinette rolled her eyes, âBecause you couldnât beat Chloe in an arm-wrestling contest.â
âShe is freakishly strong,â Adrien protested. âAnd she plays mind games!â
Chloe blew a raspberry at the other blond.
âWeâll be in Metropolis for about a week,â Marinette continued, as her two friends bickered and Adrien declared he would have his vengeance. âThen Adrien got to pick where we next.â
âDisney World!â The blond shouted. It was his biggest childhood dream and it was becoming a reality. âWeâre going to Florida to Disney World, and then Universal Studios; where weâll get to see the Magical World of Harry Potter.â
âGeek!â Chloe sniped.
âSlytherin!â Adrien hissed back at her.
âAnd proud,â Chloe crossed her arms. âBut you wouldnât know anything about that, would you, Hufflepuff?â She said the Hogwartsâ house like it was a dirty word. âMost notable thing a Hufflepuff ever did was die. And then somehow ended up in Twilight.â
Adrien stood up angrily, âYou take that back!â
âMake me!â
Adrien looked at Nathaniel, âRavenclaw, do something!â Their two houses went together like PB&J.
Nathaniel put down his pencil, âNo.â And went back to writing. âMake the Gryffindor do it!â He motioned to Marinette.
Marinette just looked up at the ceiling, praying to godsâ for patience.
Adrien, she was suddenly reminded, was loyal enough to help hide a body.
Nathaniel was smart enough to have already come up with an alibi.
Chloe as conning enough to ensure they got away it, after goading Marinette into doing it in the first place.
Marinette would eventually snap and kill Lila. She would need them. âWeâll be in Florida for about four days; enough to see both amusement parks. Then all four of us agreed to go to New York next. First, stop Gotham; weâll be touring Wayne Industries and attending one of the Wayne family annual galas.â
âThen we go directly to New York City,â Chloe said examining her nails. âMama arranged us a tour of Vogue and Mode. Weâll be going to a few of the runways for Fashion Week. Adrienâs father arranged for us to go see Hamilton on Broadway.â
It had taken a lot of time, effort, threats of going to the police, press, and CPS regarding child labor laws broken concerning Adrien to get Gabriel Agreste to agree to let his son go on the trip (as well as allow him to actually have a childhood). But there had been several conditions; mostly to do with security and proper supervision; which all the parents had, though not to Gabrielâs extremeness.
Still, the four kids agreed to the terms.
âWeâre going to a baseball game!â Adrien added excitedly. âA real one. Iâm going to eat a hot dog the size of my arm. And cotton candy the size of my head.â
Marinette nodded slowly, already picturing herself patting Adrienâs back as he whined about as stomach ache from eating too much.
Chloe frown, picturing the same. She had lost a pair of Jimmy Choos after one disastrous trip to the carnival that involved way too much greasy food and rollercoaster with two loops. She shook the nightmarish memory away, âThanks to Marinette, weâll be touring the Stark Industries and the Avengers tower. All the hotels weâll be staying at are 5 stars. Also, weâre going to three, three Michelin star restaurants. I can imagine what wouldâve happened if she had made the reservations late. We might have ended up in some god awful Inn.â
âCome to think of it,â Marinette paused thoughtfully, âWe should get to New York about the same time you do. What are your plans? No! Donât tell me. Iâm sure theyâre amazing and I donât want to be jealous. I mean you kicked us off the trip so you had to have something out of this world lined up.â
Alyaâs mouth was dry. She tried to come up with something to say; something to brag about but she knew that come September sheâd have to pony up the pics. Because Pics or it didnât happen. Chloe was active on social media; sheâd be updating on a daily basis and scooping out her competition. Sheâd know instantly if they were lying and theyâd never live it down.
Lila fought the urge to throw the biggest tantrum of her life. At the beginning of the year, after Marinetteâs trip presentation, she thought getting the bluenette and Blondie off the trip was the perfect plan; even when Adrien said he wouldnât go. However, it was soon clear that Alya and the other students were in way over their hands. The dream trip that Marinette had spun them would be realized as only a dream as it was clear they wouldnât manage it without Marinetteâs organizational skills and Chloeâs funding.
The trip they got was the standard tourist one. A look around the city, the statue of liberty, Time Square, and a museum or two. Honestly, Lila took better trips with her grandmother.
Maybe there was still a way to save thingsâŠ
âYou know,â Lila smiled sweetly. âSince weâre all going to be in New York anyway, we should do everything together-â
âCanât,â Marinette stated firmly. âReservations are reservations for a reason. Tickets were bought. You know how it is.â
Bustier frowned. This had ended the way she thought it would. When Alya and the other students beseeched her to disallow Marinette and Chloe from the school trip, she thought it was for the best. Chloe had always had a hostile attitude that Marinette seemed to have developed as well. It left the rest of the class with negative energy that wasnât helpful for nurturing their growth.
However, she couldnât have predicted just how badly things would go. Alya had come crying to her several times about having to fill out and re-fill out multiple forms for the school board. She seemed to get something wrong every time.
The children could barely raise enough money for the trip. And it wasnât nearly as wonderful as the one Marinette had come up with at the beginning of the year. Still, they were going to New York which was what counted. Most classes wouldnât even have gotten that far, She thought smugly. It would be a good trip. (Caline had dreamed about accidentally running into Steve Rogers or Thor and being swept off her feet. And she thought that dream wouldnât even be possible if she was too busy trying to reign in her to most troublesome students which were one of her reason her telling the two they couldnât go.) However, even that trip paled in comparison to the one the bluenette had planned for her and her two friends. 5-star hotels, trips to galas, fashion week, going to the Avengers Towers, possibly meeting Captain America, Thor, and the rest! It all sounded too good to be true.
âThere must be something you can do,â Bustier said. âIt would be nice if all my students were together.â
The other students looked at the tour with hope clear in their eyes.
Adrien, Marinette, and Chloe just looked at the teacher like she was dumb. Each fought the urge to remind the teacher that she was just fine with the three not going less than ten minutes ago.
Adrien rolled his eyes, âThere isnât. Everything was bought and paid for. They are only expecting four kids which is why we get to go to so many places. Turns out, not many hotels and restaurants want to deal with a bunch of teens at the last minute.â
Marinette nodded, âBesides you wouldnât want us crashing your trip anyway. Weâd hate to get in the way. We know you guys wanted a drama-free trip.â She through the term back in their faces. âBut I wouldnât mind meeting up one day. You guys are doing time square right. Let us know when and weâll see if we can do it the same day.â
âIf we can fit in our schedules,â Chloe snapped. âIt's pretty packed.â
âNot as packed as theirs, Iâm sure,â Marinette smiled kindly, though inside she was doing a victory dance worthy of a champion. âI canât wait to see the pictures.â
The four left that Friday. By Sunday, the social medias were filled with dozens of pictures of beautiful hotel rooms. The next three weeks were the worst in the classâs entire lives. The other students in the class tried their best not to look but it was hard. Particularly when the picture of Marinette, Adrien, and Chloe on the red carpet started to make waves. Pictures of the four meeting various celebrities like Lex Luther and Chris Pine, superheroes like Superman and Batman, of them at Disney World and Coachella had left more than a bit of envy in their hearts.
Their own trip had started out terribly. Alya hadnât book enough rooms so they had to triple bunk, with some people having to sleep on a cot. And it turned out that the only tours she had secured was to Elis Island and the New York Art Museum; nothing nearly as exciting as they hoped. So they had been mostly left on their own for sight-seeing.
Still, it wasnât a terrible trip. They ate great good and saw the normal New York tourist attractions.
However, when the time came for them to go to Time Square and meet up with Adrien, Alya, Chloe, and Marinette, Bustier was ready to pull her hair out.
Bustier never had trouble on any of the previous trips, as they were always organized to the minute, but this one had so much free time the kids didnât know what to do with themselves which resulted in chaos. And being threatened with being kicked out of the hotel. She didnât understand what was different. The students were usually so well behaved.
Sure on previous trips, there had been two more chaperones but Bustier always thought they were unnecessary. Her students were the best and most well behaved in school for the most part. She was positive that they only needed their teacher to watch out for them.
      She was wrong.
And Bustier was very surprised to see Mendeleiev there with her four wayward students, looking very much like the Cat that got the Canary.
âDemetria,â Bustier greeted politely. âWhat are you doing here?â
Mendeleev didnât bother to hide her smirk. âI was invited as a chaperone. It just me and Gorilla. Between the two of us we keep the delinquents in check,â She said Delinquents at the four who playfully hissed at her. Each of the four wore a black shirt with a different Hogwarts house on it.âBest decision I ever made. I was reluctant at first as itâs not school-related and I wouldnât be paid for it. But Agreste and Bourgeois are paying me nine times my usual amount an hour to watch the kids like a hawk. Luckily their goods kids. What about you? How is your class trip going?â
Bustier forced herself to smile, and not bite out angrily that it was driving her insane. The kids were driving her completely up the wall. And Caline was more than a little aware of how amazing her four students trip was and to think Mendeleiev had gotten to do it all with them made her blood boil and her eyes practically turn green with jealousy. âExtremely well. We are having⊠the time of our lives.â
âIâm sure,â Mendeleiev said. She and the rest of the teachers had never been happy with how Bustier ran her class. Or just how much she and Damocles got away with. However, it didnât matter. Come September, things would change. Damocles had already gotten fired for taking bribes, breaking procedure, and being a complete idiot.
Bustier, while technically, hadnât done anything wrong would still have to listen to the school board tell her everything that was wrong with her class. And there was a lot.
âHave you gone to the Avengers tower yet?â Bustier asked, not subtly at all. She still hoped that if there was time she and her class could tag along.
âWe have,â Mendeleiev told her, bursting the bubble of hope that had sprung in Caline. âIt was quite wonderful. I had a wonderful debate with Doctor Banner; it turns out heâs read several of my papers and me, his. While the kids are at the baseball game tomorrow, the two of us will be having a lunch date and going over our scientific hypothesis tomorrow.â
âGet it, Ms. Mendeleiev,â Chloe laughed.
Mendeleiev shot her a stern look but her mouth twitched as she fought a smile.
âPerhaps my class could go with?â
âSorry, we have a reserved seats.â
Envy flared in Caline Bustier more than ever before in her entire life. If they had been still in Paris, Hawkmoth wouldâve had a field day. âOh but what about watching the kids. Wonât they need you? What would their parents say about this?â A vicious smirk appeared on Bustierâs face. She always thought Mendeleiev needed to be knocked down a peg or two.
Mendeleiev didnât bat an eye, âAlready covered. Already cleared with their parents. After all whoâs going to say no to Captain America and Iron Man babysitting their kids. Steve hadnât been to a game a while and he really wanted to take his son Peter and the rest of Tonyâs interns. The kids should have a blast.â
Adrien shot a bright smile at his bodyguard, âNatasha is going too! I still donât understand how you two know each other.â
Gorillaâs face burned a red color but he remained silent. He wore the bright yellow and black Hufflepuff scarf Adrien had begged him to wear as a show of support, particularly when Mendeleiev revealed herself to be a Ravenclaw (So did Bruce Banner). Captain America and the Winter Soldier high-fived Marinette over being Gryffindors. And Pepper Potts, Iron Man, and the Black Widow introduced themselves as Slytherin alumni.
Where was the Hufflepuff love?
Adrien had looked at Hawkeye with hope but Clint had shrugged and said, âGryffindor.â
The blond boy huffed and pouted (the pout was how he got Gorilla to wear the scarf). He bet Thor was a Hufflepuff.
The rest of Bustierâs class still steer clear away from the four; out of pride and envy. Lila had attempted to go near Adrien but was stopped by Alya who didnât want to risk her bestie getting bullied by the meanest girls in school.
Alya had decided after seeing the pictures of the four with Superman, The Avengers, Batman, and THE LOIS LANE that life just wasnât fair. If it was Marinette and Chloe (Maybe even Nathaniel) would be stuck in Paris, crying their eyes out over not being allowed on the trip. It was what they deserved for being such bullies.
The preplanned tour of Times Square, which was mostly just the kids walking around and awing at the pretty lights. It was actually a bit boring, once the excitement wore off. They found themselves on the highest building there, looking over New York City in its entirety, along with a bunch of other tourists.
Suddenly all the electronic billboards and every ounce of electricity turned off. Crowds up people looked around confused.
The giant monitors blurred and a face appeared, âGreetings citizens of New York, I. AM. THE. Electrocutioner!â Lights were centered on the highest building there, and it was clear the villain stood on top of the building. The building of Bustierâs class was on.
One thought echoed in the minds of each Parisian citizen, âFuck.â
Before any of the Paris heroesâ could figure out if they should act or not, another team of heroes arrived.
The evil-doer had with him a dozen or so henchmen, each more menacing the last.
The sight of Kid Flash zooming up the side of the building was incredible. Seeing Young Justice kick butt left Marinette a little breathless.
Was this what it was like, she wondered, seeing Ladybug fight.
When some of the henchmen were ordered to take hostages; Marinette, Chloe, Nathaniel, Adrien, Gorilla, and Mendeleiev fighting back much to the shock of Bustier and her class. Chloe rolled her eyes as she, and the other three pulled out miniature pens from their pockets; did they really not know how often New York is attacked by Super Villians. Seriously.
With a click of the button, the pen turns into a long whip. Chloe refused to be taken without a fight. Her and Marinette, who now wielded a fighting staff, nodded at each other. The blonde snorted when she looked at Adrien, âA shield, really?â
âI donât want to hurt people too much,â Adrien defended.
âThis is why youâre a Hufflepuff.â
Nathaniel spun his trident around. It worked like a Taser and could shock people. Luckily only the villain had electricity powers.
Marinette didnât know how it happened but suddenly she was fighting back to back with Robin.
âNice moves,â Robin said after Marinette knocked out a henchman with a high kick. He knocked out a henchman with his staff.
âNot too bad yourself.â
Nathaniel nearly had a heart attack when Aqualad jumped in to help him protect several tourists. When biggest henchmen came rushing at him, the redhead fired up his trident and within seconds the underling was down for the count.
Kaldur paused, ââŠCan I borrow that?â
Chloe used the whip with ease and grace. She has been practicing with it ever since she saw Shadow Hunters for the first time. Isabelle Lightwood was an icon.
The blonde didnât know how it happened. But one minute she was fighting off two lame minions then she saw an Arrow guy fighting and then falling off the roof, and the next thing she knows sheâs jumping after him. Then they both were dangling off the roof with only Chloeâs whip for support.
âYou call this a rescue?â Arrow guy snorted.
âYou call yourself a hero?â Chloe snapped.
âMeow!â
Chloe didnât see how he did it but one moment she was hanging there; the next Arrow guy was swinging her up back onto the roof.
He smirked at her, âYouâre a pretty one.â
She waved him off, âOh go save someone!â
When Superboy crashed down next to him after taking a brutal hit, Adrien gripped his shield and stood in front of him. Adrien was able to block most of the attempts of the underlings to reach the boy of steel. But it wasnât long until they had them surrounded. Just when Adrien thought he was a goner, red lasers blasted the henchman back.
Superboy stood up, âThanks for the assist.â He smiled at the blond boy. âNice shield.â
Gorilla and Mendeleiev handled their own really well. After seeing Gorilla fight, Adrien started to have some serious suspicions about just how his bodyguard knew the Black Widow.
When the fight was over, and the villains detained, the small group stood with the rest of the civilians until the all-clear was given.
The Bustier and her class stared in awe as the members of Young Justice walked over to the six with large smiles. The heroes didnât even spare the class a glance. Not even when Alya pushed Lila to the front but Robin and Arsenal never even noticed her.
Dick Grayson, Robin, smiled at the pretty bluenette with bluest eyes heâd ever seen and did his best to ignore Batman in his ear about bringing in the Heroes Ladybug, Chat Noir, Queen Bee, and Bright Roar in to Watch Tower stat. He knew all about Ladybug and, thanks to Batman, knew her civilian identity. But to see her in person was a whole different experience.
No, there was a time and place for everything. And right now the time was to flirt with the Gorgeous Superhero who a skintight red suit.
âYouâre amazing,â He told her honestly. âWhat are you doing for the rest of my life?â
âI swear to god if you propose!â Batman hissed in his ear.
      Marinette blushed a bright red.
Kaldur handed the trident back to Nathaniel, âThis is an amazing weapon. You use it well.â He told the redhead. This must be the new Hero Bright Roar âI wish for one just like it.â
Nathaniel flushed but handed the weapon back to Kaldur, âKeep it. Iâm not that good with it.â
Kaldur smiled, âThen perhaps you will let me teach you one day. One on one sessions.â
âReally Kaldur,â Aquaman chastised. âThis is a mission, not a dating show.â
      Aqualad ignored him.
Superboy nodded at Adrien, âYouâre good,â he told the smaller blond boy. Though from the reports he read about Chat Noir, he was only a year younger than him. âCool shirt by the way. It's nice to meet a fellow Hufflepuff.â He said and then suddenly his arms were full of a blond boy thanking him for existing.
âBreathe,â Superman chuckled in his ear. âJust breathe, Connor.â
âFor such good finders, weâre so hard to find,â Adrien said. âI could kiss you!â
Superboy turned the brightest shade of red anyone had ever seen.
Arsenal eyed the hot blond girl, âAt least you know how to stay out of the way.â
Chloe glared at him, âNext time, Iâll just let you die.â
âThen who be the man of your dreams.â
âFreddie Kruger would probably take his job back,â Chloe said with a hand on her hip. âThough his face isnât as terrifying as yours.â
âThat girl will eat you alive,â Oliver warned in his ear.
âSo you admit you dream about me,â Roy stepped forward.
      Chloe huffed, âGet real!â
âHey,â Alya called. âRobin, Speedy, donât you want to say hi to Lila Rossi.â She motioned to the Italian girl who had gone pale.
âItâs Arsenal now,â Roy corrected.
      Dick nodded, âAnd whoâs Lila?â
Marinette smiled, âOh Iâd totally marry you now!â
Robin grinned and raised his arms in victory.
      Batman cursed in his ear.
Robin, Arsenal, Aqualad, and Superboy kept their attention on the on the four. No matter how much their superhero mentors protested. No matter how much Bustierâs tried to intervene.
       No, their attentionsâ were reserved

I Donât Dance; An Analysis
By someone with no idea what theyâre doing
Can I just say,,, this song slaps. Like, ignore everything,, all the connections, all the subtext, all the whatever, this song (I Donât Dance from High School Musical 2) is just rlly good. Iâve been listening to it a lot (shocker) and I have to say, perhaps pop isnât so bad. Iâm lying, of course, rock forever, but also not the point. Now, onto what I was actually planning on talking about.
Songs can say a lot, especially when paired with dances, and to see the full meaning of a song, one must look past itâs surface level meaning and dive deep into the subtext. Contextually, the song makes sense as just talking about baseball, but on a surface level only. Look into it for even a moment and youâre sure to find all the queer subtext you need to confirm the theory that High School Musical as a whole is a metaphor for accepting your queer identity.
A quick overview of the song; it starts as a friendly game of baseball between Ryan and Chad, the dancer and the jock. Thatâs fairly straight-forward, and as they play, Ryan encourages Chad to dance, insisting that he can and should, while dancing in ways that enhance his own playing. I should mention right now, I know fuck-all about baseball. I learnt to spell it, like, 15 minutes ago. It should not be spelt like that. Regardless, Iâm gonna do my best to some-what grasp/avoid the thing entirely. Anyway, Iâm getting off track. Back to what I was saying, the song is Ryan encouraging Chad to dance, in a somewhat flirtatious matter. The song ends after a dance routine involving the entirety of both teams, and then, in the following scene, Chad and Ryan are shown having a good time, talking and laughing while eating lunch, WEARING EACH OTHERâS CLOTHES!! If someone can give me a heterosexual explanation for that,,,, donât.
Now, for what Iâve been meaning to get to; what does the song actually mean? (I use the phrase âNow,â at the start of a lot of sentences, sorry in advance.)
Obviously, itâs about accepting your queer identity and living your life to its fullest, not allowing the heteronoramilty of the world hold you back. Anyone whoâs ever watched the movie can tell you that, however, as is the way with any piece of explanatory writing, I have to assume that youâve never even seen any of the movies (heathen).
The plot doesnât matter. I donât care about all but four characters, Zeke, Sharpay, Chad, and Ryan. This will primarily be about the latter two, and their own acceptance of who they are.
From the start, Ryan is flamboyant and feminine, the archetype of a gay man, as âsubtletyâ isnât really a thing in High School Musical. Less so in the sequel, aside from the sub-text of course, but they had to get that past Disneyâs censors. Also, Ryan is one of the âvillainsâ of the trilogy, meaning that he can be queer-coded as much as the writers desire. Off track once again. I apologise. No I donât. Anyway, Ryan is a theatre kid. The theatre kid, excluding his sister, of course, but as I said previously, Sharpay is not the topic of todayâs discussion. Why is theatre so important you ask? Well, not only is the whole point of the trilogy theatre and musicals, but itâs often associated with queer identity, gay men, and femininity. While that is not true, necessarily, it works well as a metaphor and for subtext in the series. Ryanâs theatre/dance-centered personality is made as such because he is one of the few openly gay students in the movie. Theatre and dance, in this context, are queer. And Ryan is incredibly open with his sexuality, especially after he steps out from his sisterâs shadow and comes into himself, realising who he is in his entirety.
Chad is on the opposite side of the spectrum. Heâs, to put it bluntly, a Chad. Sporty, masculine, âstraightâ, everything heâs expected to be, but, secretly, he knows that thatâs not quite true. Heâs likely bisexual, as we never recive a label I will refer to him as such, and he knows this about himself. He accepts it, but refuses to act on it, or really acknowledge it, so it is not true acceptance. He is still hiding and suppressing part of himself, dancing only when everyone around him is doing the same, conforming to the heterosexual society that we all must reside in. So much of who he appears to be centered around sport and straightness, but after he is left by his closest friend (Asshole Troy. My cousin stunt-doubled Zac Effron once lol) heâs unsure where to go, and accepts an offer to play a friendly game of baseball against Ryan.
Ryan knows that Chad is bi. He knows that Chad is suppressing and hiding a part of himself, and, on some level, understands what thatâs like, and knows how harmful that can be, and takes it upon himself to change that, and the game begins. Literally. And of all games, itâs baseball, one of the only sports I know filled to the brim with euphemisms and gay slang, and let me tell you, I know very little about both things, but I did actaully do research before this.
Chad knows what Ryan is trying to do, and rejects it, insisting that he has to âjust do his thing.â He steps up, the batter, insisting that he can be straight, that he doesnât need that other part of himself to feel whole. Ryan sees clearly that this is bullshit.
âIâll show you that itâs one in the same, baseball, dancing, same game.â In this line, Ryan is explaining that Chad doesnât need to give up his masculinity or his love for sport to live in his true identity, that dancing and baseball are the same thing, different flavours. He can stay who he is while still being true to himself and stop suppressing a part of himself. Heâs also flirting, a lot. Saying that he can show Chad what heâs missing.
âI wanna play ball now, and thatâs all. This is what I do. It ain't no dance that you can show me,â replies Chad, saying how he doesnât agree, and has no wish to change who he is, regardless of the consequences. He doesnât think that the two parts of his identity can live in harmony, and heâs gotten this far in life while suppressing his queer side, he can do it forever. Of course, as you likely already know, dear reader, this is far from true, and Ryan has made it his mission to prove that, through song and suspiciously flirtatious dance.
âYouâll never know, if you never try.â Ryan now is telling Chad that heâll never know if he can be happier as an open bisexual if he doesnât try to expirience life in a different way, and is also telling Chad heâs dtf.
âThereâs just one little thing that stops me every time.â Chad is on the verge of agreeing, accepting Ryanâs advances, when it cuts to his team, watching him play. He canât come out, canât fully accept himself, even if he wants to, without risking rejection from his team, from his friends, and having to possibly leave behind the world of sports that he so loves. The masculinity is fragile in this one, I must say. But his team not backing him up, leaving him behind, that scares Chad more than anything at that point in his life. Even if it is living his truth, he wonât risk the life already built up around him. In his eyes, nothing would truly be worth it. But Ryan wonât give up on him.
Then the pair go back and forth, arguing over whether Chad has it in him to accept it, risk everything to be who he truly is. âIf I can do this then you can do that.â Ryan is telling Chad that if he can play baseball while still retaining his queer identity, then Chad can do the same while dancing. Doing one thing does not invalidate or cancel out the other. He can, and should, do both, to become a more complete version of himself. However, Chadâs team is still supporting him only in baseball, at this point in the song anyway.
âHey, batter, batter. Hey batter, batter, swing.â At this point, no one is actually swinging at the ball, showing that this is not what theyâre talking about. âSwing that way,â is often used to refer to whom one is attracted to, and Ryan is telling Chad to âswing,â to come to terms with his attraction to men, and to Ryan himself. While they are singing this, Chad is literally approaching first base, not too dissimilar from the bases in a relationship. Like, any other sport, any one at all, and they had to pick this one. Even urban dictionary agrees itâs gay as all hell.
âBases loaded, do your dance. Itâs easy.â Here, Ryan is telling Chad that baseball is almost a dance on its own, it requires movement and coordination like dance, and at this point Chad canât disagree, because the bases are loaded (I do actually know what that means) and he has to hit the ball and free them up, else something happens (reaching the end of my baseball knowledge sorry).
âI've got what it takes, playin my game. So you better spin that pitch. You're gonna throw me, yeah.â Here Chad is admitting that Ryan is distracting him, his dance and words throwing him off his game. âIâll show you how I swing.â Chad is play-flirting now, not-quite-mockingly responding to Ryan while dancing, ever so slightly, while still remaining in the game. He comes closer to accepting it than he has before, but still refusing to truly accept it.
With Ryanâs line, âhit it out of the park,â we return ever so slightly to the literal playing of the game, and Ryan telling Chad to give it his best shot, showing his support despite being on the opposing team. Moments later, members of Chadâs team begin dancing as well, using the movements to enhance their play somewhat, and, subtly, showing their support for dancing and all that comes with it. Chad, however, has still not reached that point.
âLean back, tuck it in, take a chance. Swing it out, spin around, do the dance.â Ryanâs now explaining how connected dancing and baseball really are, how they can easily coexist, of course playing into what Ryan has been trying to convince Chad of the whole time, that he can accept himself and still remain as Chad-like as he wants.
âI wanna play ball, not dance hall.â Chad doesnât care, instead staying steadfast in his position that sport and dance must stay seperate, but his actions betray his words, as, however mockingly it may be, he does in fact dance along to those lines.
âI can prove it to you til you know it's true. 'Cause I can swing it, I can bring it to the diamond too.â Ryan is not giving up. Heâs trying his best to say that heâs a dancer, sure, but his skills help him on the field. Were he not a dancer, he would likely not be as good at baseball as he is, explaining that if you are repressing a part of yourself, then you are not living up to your full potential, and not living life to its fullest.
âYouâre talking a lot, show me what you got.â Prove it, Chad is saying as he throws the ball. And Ryan swings, and hits it, sending it far out over the playing field, proving his point, and with that, Ryan relents. Now, as he says he doesnât dance, heâs dancing with his whole team behind him. Theyâre showing their support, and the dance becomes almost making fun of his past stance, and now he and Ryan flirt relentlessly through the song, as they dance.
They repeat their banter, all while dancing, and they come extremely close, closer than anyone else in the court, coming closer and closer to first base.
âYou can do it.â Itâs Chadâs team now, dancing behind him, showing their support for him, and insisting that he can dance, he can accept his identity in its whole, and they will still be behind him, still accept him for who he is. Chad and Ryan dance across from each other, back and forth, all of both teams and the crowd, all of them showing support.
Even as it returns to Chad batting, he does so bouncing on his toes to the music, and as he scores a home run, clearing the bases, each of his team members who are on the bases reach home with a flourish, a dance move of their own, even though they themselves are straight. Likely.
However, during the whole song, Ryan and Chad were openly flirting, the song is many things, as Chad knew his sexuality, he just wasnât comfortable enough to admit it. At first the flirting was jokingly, on Chadâs side anyway, but tensions rise as the song continues, and Ryan makes sure Chad understands that this isnât a joke, he means it. And that takes a few minutes for Chad to truly accept. The song is about self-acceptance and the chemistry between the two characters, more chemistry than literally any other characters, including Troy and Gabriella.
As the song ends, and Chad scores a home run, winning the game, the two fall over each other at the home base, and itâs over, the scene is anyway, and with the end of the game comes the end of Chadâs suppression. He can finally accept his bisexuality with the knowledge that his team will stay behind him and that he can be happy with a man just as he could with a woman, something that prior to this song, he didnât truly believe.
And then, in the next scene, Ryan and Chad are wearing each otherâs clothes, talking about the game in a far friendlier manner than any previous interaction. Together, they have hotdogs and good conversation, and the swapping of their clothes, including hats, implies that they totally fucked. Not to sound insensitive, obviously, but please, if you can think of any other explanation, please enlighten me.
Now, how does this tie into the rest of High School Musical? I should mention now Iâve not seen the third one and can barely remember the other two. However, I believe I know enough for my point to have some grounds. In this movie trilogy, theatre is queerness, as I have already explained, and conforming to society is heteronormativity. The path of Troy accepting that he loves theatre and basketball at the same time is one of accepting himself in his entirety. While I donât personally believe that the character himself is queer, it is still a path of acceptance that still resonates with much of the LGBTQ+ community who would watch this movie.
The whole idea of the series is rejecting the status quo and living your life without rejecting any part of yourself. This is taken to another level between Chad and Ryan, someone who has accepted himself completely, and someone who doesnât want to give up the life he has. There is little else to be said on the matter (LIES! I could talk about this for so long) so it appears time to wrap it up.
I donât care that much about High School Musical. That may seem surprising, but before this weekend, I couldnât tell you the characterâs names. It is a strange feeling to fall so completely into something that you ignore all schoolwork to write an analysis (strong word) of a clip of a movie. I downloaded the Osu map (after finding it by accident) and played it until I got an S, even tho Iâve had the game only for a couple weeks, barely ever play it, and the easiest version of the map was 2.3 stars. I couldnât tell you how many times Iâve listened to it, and I had to finish this piece of writing so I could have some semblance of peace, as all my friends are tired of hearing about it but I need to get my thoughts out. Perhaps now that this is done I can pay attention to the science class thatâs been happening around me. I think Iâve said all I can, and I hope that is enough to satisfy my mind. And I am well aware that there is someone out there who has done this with fewer and better words, but I donât really care.
TLDR; High School Musical 2 is gay, and even more gay than that is Chad and Ryan. Thank you and goodnight.

What if there was a Walt Disney Fighting Game? [Video Game Concept]
Note: I am well aware, that Disney would probably never say yes in a million years to this idea. Taking their beloved, child friendly characters and having them fight?!
OH THE HORROR?!
I am also aware there have been concepts for this in the past.
Final Fantasy Dissidia was supposed to be a Kingdom Hearts fighting game, but Nomura felt uncomfortable portraying Disney characters in such a violent atmosphere.
And there are sketches of what a Walt Disney fighting game could've been, inspired by Super Smash Bros, before it was canceled. It would've focused on more violent characters such as Gaston, Beast, Ursula, Captain Hook, Captain Silver and the Horned King. But the idea was dropped.
Here's the link.
This entire post is just building and putting together what a Disney fighting game would look like to me, if one came out in today's world. It's all merely speculation and ideas that's been in the back of my head for awhile.
(Special thanks to @mayflower-gal for helping me set this up. đ)
Anyways, let's get started!
Part 1: The Plot
For the plot, I believe it would have to be something simple, since this an idea for a first game. It's the start of a potentially huge franchise, so I wanna keep it not only simple, but an aspect that helps kick off the potential series. And pull in many fans, old and new of Disney.
Let's take into account one thing: what's a recurring theme across various Disney movies (and overall media)?
Is it the lovable, comic relief sidekick that makes audiences laugh? Is it the songs that kids find themselves singing, long after the tale is done and the curtain has closed? Is it perhaps, the clever celebrity choices for important side characters?
No, It's the one defining aspect that draws in audiences, both new and old, bringing you to fall in love with the characters as the story is told:
Wishes.
Pinocchio wishes to be a real boy. Beast and all his servants wish to be human again. Tiana wishes to have her own restaurant. Ariel wishes to see the world beyond the sea.
Everyone wishes for something more in their life and have dreams that they wish come true.
What if all those wishes were counted? Collected?
Watched over. Much like a parent to their children. Or a teacher to their students.
Found engaging. Found entertaining. Found comforting. Found peaceful. Found introspective.
Looked at with childlike wonder and glee when accomplished.
But frowned on when those wish for selfish desires. And an even deeper disappointment at those very same inhuman desires, coming true.
Good and bad exists inside every person, it's just a matter of what one chooses to act on and stand by at the end of the day.
What someone wishes for is reflective of that.
Now imagine that same being coming to life and wrecking havoc across the Disney universe. Judging for themself, if any of these colorful, imaginative characters, truly deserve their...
Happily,
Ever
After.
Yep, the main plot of the story mode is all the various Disney characters literally fighting for wishes and dreams to come true...
against the LITERAL embodiment of wishing upon a star.
Each playable character having their own unique ending.
Some endings being repeats of your favorite Disney movies, with some minor changes to acknowledge the game's plot. While others are original due to the wide cast of characters that are available, besides your favorite Disney Heroes.
For example, you beat the story mode as say, Pinocchio, he wishes to be a real boy.
I know it sounds very redundant since a majority of these things already happen in the Disney movies, but I feel as though relieving them would be fun. In addition to some original ones that didn't happen with either the villains or less major characters.
It's only the hypothetical first game and I wanted start with something simple, that fans could easily get into. More complex plots, with more character interactions should be saved for any possible sequels.
Part 2: The Gameplay
The game would be your typical 2D fighting game. You have,
Combos exclusive to every character that requires practice.
Playstyles that make each character feel unique.
Special moves for each character to get the upper hand and the main focus in besting your opponent in 1 VS 1 matches.
Of course, there's dialogue before fights in the character intros. With so many to pick from, it had to be put in somewhere.
It resembles 2D fighting games that you've all no doubt heard of, such as Marvel VS Capcom or Street Fighter.
But what would a Disney fighting game have to offer on the table, in order to survive the overall video game market?
It would have to be something unique and a feature that not only gives it originality, but a chance to stand out with so much creativity and innovation. Practically begging fans for more.
Which is why I present to you: Disney Songs.
Or as this game prompt will call them: Musical Finales.
The highlight of many Disney movies and overall media, the music is what leaves a lasting impression on many audiences. Which is not surprising, since Disney is mostly a musical. At least in terms of most of their films.
With so many iconic songs from throughout the company's history, of course I'll be squeezing them somehow!
Each character has a music meter, that can only be filled up with how the player times and follows the beat of the character they play as. Follow the rhythm and beat of a character, and it will fill up quicker. Get cut off by the opponent and it doesn't fill up.
That beat being the music of the stage each player fights on, by attacking to the music and the same time. Think of it like the Sound Battles mechanic in Mother 3.
Every character has four different kinds of attacks: Neutral, Musical, Wonderful and Special.
Neutral Attacks are normal attacks that are mostly used to set up combos.
Musical Attacks are attacks that deal more impact, when timed with the music of the stage.
Wonderful Attacks can be seen as character oriented attacks, that embody the personality and charm of the character you play as. And can be used to entertain the audience. We'll get into that later.
Special Attacks are unique finisher moves that require a separate meter to be filled up, as with most fighting games.
Now what happens when the music meter is full? A Disney Song starts playing of course!
Say you filled up Cinderella's music meter for example, then "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" starts playing, granting some unique abilities for Cinderella.
Each song would grant different outcomes and bonuses for the various characters. They're not Special Attacks, as that's already a separate mechanic already.
For example, "Part of Your World" starts playing if you're playing as Ariel, filling up the stage with water and slowing down the opponent, giving Ariel a chance to either take advantage of that, bump items into them or create big waves of water.
But what happens if BOTH characters trigger the music meter at the same time?!
Well, that's where this gimmick becomes a fight for which song keeps on playing!
Both songs would start playing, both at the same time and volume. Except, both characters have to compete to see which is stronger.
This is done by the two characters fighting, before triggering a rhythm game between the two. Once one is the victor, the other song fades, while the other stays playing. Doubling the duration of that character's Musical Finale.
Another mechanic is the Entertainment Meter. Every level you fight on has one, that determines which fighter the audience likes more. Via Wonderful attacks, you can charm the audience into supporting you more. This activates things like getting healing items or stat boosts in power and speed. Some of your favorite Disney sidekicks even provide aid from the audience!
It's almost like watching a Disney movie live and being able to interact with the story!
Or the battle system in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
I feel as though this is the best way of keeping the game interesting, giving it an identity of its own and still embodying that magic people will grow to love. It can also lead to some entertaining interactions in the background or foreground of a stage, as the music meter also brings in characters that would not be playable, but support playable characters nonetheless. Like Flounder and Sebastian.
Of course, either feature could be turned off if you're not a fan of that sort of thing, but that's a given.

Part 4: The Roster
The bread and butter of many fighting games, the roster is no doubt one I had a bit of trouble putting together. With so many characters from over the years, it's no surprise. But since this is the outline of a possible first game, here's my interpretation.
Also, the cast is big to avoid being too barren or dull.
And because I had a lot of fun putting it all together.
Mickey Mouse (Mickey Mouse): The all around character of the game, he mostly fights by a series of cartoonish tricks, magic tricks and his paintbrush from Epic Mickey. His Special Attack would have him break the fourth wall like and rewind the fight like an old film projector in reverse. Except he heals, while the opponent receives twice the damage. His Musical Finale "Sorcerer's Apprentice" has him use Yensid's Sorcerer hat to its fullest and give his overall moveset more flashes to distract the opponent and slow them down.
Donald Duck (Donald Duck): Everyone's favorite, greedy mallard and the world's angriest duck. Donald would fight mainly with toon force, his fists, his bad luck and his anger. The more damage he takes, the angrier he gets. His Special Attack would have him don the Duck Avenger persona from his PK days and use a series of superhero gadgets to finish the opponent. His Musical Finale "The Three Caballeros" trades his anger for Jose Carioca and Panchito Pistoles showing up, making him happy. As they hurt the opponent, each time they hit Donald, to keep him happy.
Goofy (Goofy): Everyone's favorite Disney dad, Goofy joins the fight as not the brightest but with the biggest heart. He has toon force to aid him in some unconventional ways. His Special Attack would have him become Super Goof from his older days. His Musical Finale "Eye To Eye" would restore health everytime he dodges an attack, with a dancing flair to it.
Snow White (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves): The first Disney Princess, Snow White makes her debut and she's not alone. The Seven Dwarves direct most of her attacks, such as tossing rocks, mining tools as weapons and even just grabbing the opponent and tossing them. Snow White herself can sing and command woodland animals to tie up opponents or just fight to defend her. Her Special Attack would have the Dwarves try to roll a boulder, only for lightning to strike on the opponent and the boulder as extra damage. Her Musical Finale "Whistle While You Work" will call on a huge number of forest animals, as they tidy up the stage and Snow White, slowly replenishing her health and slowing down the opponent.
Pinocchio (Pinocchio): Don't lie in his presence, as that nose is not only for show. Pinocchio fights mostly by using his nose as a staff, the Blue Fairy bringing other toys to life to aid him and Jiminy Cricket distracting the opponent with music. Pinocchio's Special Attack would have him wish upon a star and turn himself into a real boy, as the opponent is turned into a puppet and loses damage as a result. Pinocchio's Musical Finale "I've Got No Strings" would cover the stage in thin lines used for puppets: if the opponent touches one, their frozen briefly. If a projectile attack hits, the same happens.
Cinderella (Cinderella): The bell of the ball and someone whom never gives up on kindness, Cinderella will use the dance moves she showed off at the ball for her moveset, having a dancing and musical feel to how she plays and flashy dances to win against the the opponent. With her Fairy Godmother using her magic to help her, such as flashes of light. Her Special Attack would have the clock strike midnight and she leaves behind her glass slipper: once the opponent touches it they get weighed down by a giant magic dress. Cinderella's Musical Finale "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" would have the Fairy Godmother cast a series of spells over the stage, as a new carriage pops up every time Cinderella pulls off a combo. The carriages run over the opponent and can even carry Cinderella to safety.
Peter Pan (Peter Pan): Leader of the Lost Boys and Captain Hook's second biggest pain in the butt, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell are here. Peter Pan has a pocket knife with him and Tinker Bell's pixie dust for aerial attacks. His Special Attack would have him toss a bunch of gold on the opponent, as the rest of the Lost Boys tackles them and beats them up for the treasures. His Musical Finale "You Can Fly" would create a trail of pixie dust behind him, that randomly causes the opponent to either jump too high or too low.
Captain Hook (Peter Pan): Keep all 'ticks' and 'tocks' away from this pirate! Captain Hook has a wide array of hooks to switch between, a flintlock pistol and his sword to win the battle. His Special Attack would have him run away from the Tick-Tock the Crocodile, as said crocodile attacks the opponent instead of Hook. His Musical Finale "A Pirate's Life/Elegant Captain Hook" would call his ship the Jolly Rodger onto the stage, as the pirates on the ship occasionally throw knives at the opponent and shoot at them, everytime Hook is caught in a combo and can't escape.
Aurora (Sleeping Beauty): Aurora, sleeping beauty herself, is doing anything but sleep and her guardians are making sure of that! Her attacks has the Good Fairies use their magic in numerous ways, such as moving objects, animating objects and even petrification. Her Special Attack has Prince Philip show up with the Sword of Truth and the Shield of Virtue, to deal heavy damage on the opponent. Her Musical Finale "Once Upon A Dream" boosts her stats everytime she's hit.
Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty): The Mistress of all Evil, Maleficent uses a wide array of magic powers from cursed, throny vines, to her iconic green fires, she's one tough fighter from a distance. Her Special Attack would have her turn into a dragon and breath fire down on the opponent. Her Musical Finale "Once Upon A Dream" would have her make the opponent more drowsy, each time they hit her, until falling asleep, unless they keep moving.
Robin Hood (Robin Hood): The sly fox of England and one talented theif, this fox focuses on disguises, archery, swordsmanship and woodsmanship to make his way. His Special Attack would have authorities show up to arrest him, as they rain down arrows on the opponent in the process. His Musical Finale "Running Through The Forest" would allow him to dodge all attacks, without needing to hit the controls or input buttons.
Basil of Baker Street (The Great Mouse Detective): World's greatest detective! At least in the mouse world that is. Basil would investigate the stage of the fight, much like a crime scene and even pick up clues that double as weapons, such as a propeller or a mouse trap. His Special Attack would have him investigate a crime scene that hurt the opponent, before pushing them aside as 'worthless' evidence. His Musical Finale "Let Me Be Good To You" would have him require no further evidence and counter each hit with a deduction on his opponent's crime and even stop them from performing combos. Doing damage in the process.
Professor Ratigan (The Great Mouse Detective): Never call him a rat. Ever. This crime boss of the miniature crime world be no stranger to fist fights and gleefully take a swing at your demise, whether it's his fists, cane or traps. If not him, then his minions are more than happy to drown some orphans! His Special Attack would have him call his pet cat, Felicia to devour the opponent. His Musical Finale "The World's Greatest Criminal Mind" would give him more durability to hits, more destruction to the stage and traps cover more range on the stage.
Ariel (The Little Mermaid): Princess of the Sea, everyone's favorite mermaid is ready to explore beyond the sea. Armed with her father's trident, some amazing swimming skills and various sea animals at her command, she's more than ready. Her Special Attack would have her conjure a giant wave, that also covers the opponent in sea creatures. Her Musical Finale "Part Of Your World" fills the stage with water and can have Ariel bump floating objects into the opponent.
Ursula (The Little Mermaid): The last sea witch you would want to cross paths with, Ursula has eels to do her biding, poisonous ink clouds and even thunderclouds. Her Special Attack would have her turn giant via King Triton's trident and use the added power to attack the opponent. Her Musical Finale "Poor Unfortunate Souls" has her disguise herself as the opponent and slowly regain health from all souls being eaten by her. As a bonus, if she's infront of a mirror that's on the stage, her reflection will be her true form.
Belle (Beauty and the Beast): My, quite an odd girl, reading books and getting on the field of battle?! Belle's entire moveset would revolve around books; not magic books, just books on the rest of the cast and fairytales overall. She would be able to switch between each of these books and use what she's learned from them. For Example, 'Romeo and Juliet' gives Belle immunity to stat changes and rose themed weapons that hurt the opponent, like throwing weapons. 'Aladdin' gives her a magic ring that can conjure up magic smoke, furniture on the foe and teleport her. 'Jack and the Beanstalk' plants vines that can raise her up or entangle the foe. There's more books at her disposal, but that's just the general idea. Her Special Attack has her father ride in on his invention, chopping up an entire forest until the opponent is covered and crushed by chopped up logs. Her Musical Finale "Tale As Old As Time" gives her the power to 'skip' a fairytale, turning each of her attacks into the endings from the books. For example, 'Aladdin' would trap the opponent in an oil lamp, leaving room for her to attack.
Beast (Beauty and the Beast): The poor and cruel prince, turned into a monster as evil as the one in his heart. Beast has his boost in strength from his beastly form and claws to defeat the opponent. The curse not only affected him: his servants are by his side. Lumiere can incinerate the opponent or plant fires on the ground, Cogsworth can distract them with timed clock sounds, Mrs. Potts can spill tea to slip up the opponent, Chip will knock over bookshelves and Wardrobe can block attacks. His Special Attack would turn the opponent into a piece of furniture, leaving them open for attacks: each opponent having a different transformation. His Musical Finale "Be Our Guest" would have every attack with one of his servants, also heal Beast in addition to hurting the opponent.
Gaston (Beauty and the Beast): Nooo oooone's slick as Gaston! Quick as Gaston! No one's neck is as incredibly thick as Gaston! He's especially good at combo breaking! Boy what a guy that Gaston! Gaston has his inconic blunderbass and his fists, along with a bow and quiver and a hunting knife to deal with an opponent, almost as if they were an animal he's hunting. His Special Attack would have an angry mob charge at the opponent and beat them up. His Musical Finale "Gaston" gives him a strength boost, everytime he pulls off a combo successfully.
Aladdin (Aladdin): Everyone's favorite street rat and theif, he's not alone on the field of battle as Abu and Genie are here to help him. Abu can cling to the opponent and hit them repeatedly, Magic Carpet can be used for aerial attacks, Aladdin has a sword that he 'borrowed' from a guard and Genie can shape-shift in a variety of ways to best the opponent. Aladdin's Special Attack would have Genie distract the opponent, as Aladdin steals something off them and uses it to beat them. Aladdin's Music Finale "Friend Like Me" would have Genie grant a wish, each time Aladdin gets a combo, such as a stat boosts and healing.
Jasmine (Aladdin): The sultan's own daughter that would rather be anything than a prize to be given away. She has learned self defense skills, her father's guards and her pet tiger Rajah in her moveset. Occasionally tapping into the phenenomal, Cosmic power of his Genie form to do some real damage. And Iago is here as well... mostly to complain. His Special Attack would have him become an all powerful Genie and Iago wishing for ways to 'hurt' (not kill) the opponent. His Musical Finale "You're Only Second Rate" would boost all of his stats and attacks, except he can't KO the opponent until the Musical Finale is done.
Simba (The Lion King): King of the Pride Rock and son of Mufasa, the Lion King himself is more than prepared with his claws and iconic roar. His roar can even control the weather to strike lightning and cause windstorms. His Special Attack would have him call on the spirit of his father, Mufasa, as the two of them roar at the opponent. His Musical Finale "Circle Of Life" will have him remember, how we are all connected and draw on the life-force of nature, slowly healing him and giving his roars more range.
Scar (The Lion King): Mufasa's little brother and King after his timely demise, Scar has his claws and his hyenas to make short work of his foe as if their nothing more than a light snack. His Special Attack would toss the opponent of a cliff, into a Wildebeest stampede just like in the movie. As a bonus, he would say 'long live the king's son' if Simba is the opponent. His Musical Finale "Be Prepared" has him do damage without needing to attack the opponent and just walking into the opponent.
Pocahontas (Pocahontas): Daughter of Chief Powhatan, this Disney Princess has the skills necessary in order to survive and win. Her Special Attack would have her people come in to fight alongside her and best the opponent. Governor John Ratcliffe (Pocahontas): The main villain of Pocahontas, this greedy scoundrel will do anything to claim what he believes is rightfully his. He has a sword and uses his position of power to call his men into the fray. His Special Attack would have his men charge like in the movie at the opponent. His job as the ringer of the bells comes in handy to stun them, swing bells at them, his talented acrobatic skills and surprising strength. Her Special Attack has Flynn and Maximus ride in, with Rapunzel hitching a ride, as the three take down the opponent. Her Musical Finale "I See The Light" fills up the stage with lanterns, that can blind the opponent if they touch any.
Hiro and Baymax (Big Hero 6): The child genius and the helper robot turned fighter have become quite the crime fighting duo, that honor Tadashi's wish of wanting to help people. Baymax does the fighting, with Hiro on his back, such as martial arts, rocket fist, an energy blade and sonic blaster. Their Special Attack calls in the rest of the Big Hero 6, as they teamup and take down the opponent. Their Musical Finale "Immortals" assuming they get the rights to the song has Baymax dodge every attack that comes, without needing to move the controller and slowly heal up.
Judy Hopps (Zootopia): A young bunny from Bunnyburrow that came to Zootopia to pursue her dreams of being cop and help people. Her bunny physiology grants her enhanced hearing, quick agility, high jumping and she has trained herself to take down foes much bigger than her. Her Special Attack has her do her job as a cop and arrest the opponent, with the entire police force joining in to help. Her Musical Finale "Try Everything" plants tourist attractions all over the stage, that can hurt the opponent and heal Judy.
Elsa (Frozen): The Queen of Arendelle and the Ice Queen herself, forced to conceal don't feel, don't let them know. But she'll be doing anything but that here! Elsa has ice powers to freeze the opponent, create pillars of ice, ice slides, ice skates etc. Her Special Attack calls in Marshmallow to deal with the opponent. Her Musical Finale "Let It Go" allows her ice powers to come to life and aid her in battle.
Moana (Moana): Moana of Motuni, whom has sailed the sea to return the Heart of Te Fiti with Maui. She has a harpoon and an oar, along with the ocean helping her and watching over her. Her Special Attack returns the Heart of Te Fiti to Te Fiti, whom fully heals Moana, temporarily boosting her attack. Moana's Musical Finale "How Far I'll Go" covers the stage in water that has boats to hit the opponent and granting Moana faster speed.
Maui (Moana): The Maori Demigod of the wind and sea, with quite the number of feats from over the years. With his magic fish hook, he can shapeshift into a number of animals, his most common being a hawk. His Special Attack being lassoing the sun into the opponent. His Musical Finale "You're Welcome" makes all damage to Maui, take longer to leave an impact.
And that's that. A LOT longer than I thought it would be. Now your probably thinking, what about all the other Disney media? It's an idea for the first game, so other characters (Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Scrooge McDuck, Goliath, Kim Possible, etc.) would appear in a potential sequel.
Or DLC, since every game these days has it.
Thanks so much for reading all this and taking the time to do! I would love to hear some thoughts and feedback! I had a blast making all this and would like to see if you're interested in hearing more video game ideas.

The Owl House: Enchanting Grom Fright: Happy Valentineâs Gays
Happy Valentineâs Day owl ladies, gentleman and non-binary folks! Itâs time to finish off this holiday in proper style with a LONG overdue review of enchanting Grom Fright and even longer overdue coverage of the Owl House. The Owl House was one of the best debuts of last year if not THE best, only in contention because Close Enough also started last year and looks to surpass regular show in terms of quality. But with stunning animation, tons of representation, and colossal worldbuilding. And given how iâm on record for thinking Star Vs went so far down the tubes they bumped into where Cthulu is sleeping, itâs nice to have another magic based show that seems to be on the right track: carefully building iâts world, supporting cast and for todayâs topic main romance. It also rather than just obliquely hint one character was bi and the other pan, actually goes out of itâs way to have a bisexual protaginst with a gay love intrest. As my good friend @jess-the-vampire has brought up quite a bit, star had plnety of options. .but no willingness to actually campaign for any queer rep, the way Gravity Falls head Alex Hirsch tried to, he still gets credit for trying, and Owl House creator Dana Terrace gets full credit for.Â
Terrace got her start working on Gravity Falls in line production before working her way up to directing for ducktales, being instrumental in how Webby was animated and how she moves and acts, and being the director for several classic season one episodes including âWoo-Hoo!â, âThe Spear of Seleneâ , âDay of the Only Child!â which was one of my faviorites from season 1 and âThe Beagle Birthday Massacre!â. And while I canât 100% confirm sheâs the only part responsible for starting Weblena, given she was director on an episode where a lot of the romantic subtext was in the visuals, she certainly helped so thank you Dana. Thank you a lot. Their adorable. Point is sheâs a talented lady and wasnât satisfied with directing, so she pitched her own show, combining tons of ides and stuff including of all things, Pokemon Red. I checked the article wikipedia had sourced, it was one of her happy childhood memories as it was one of the last things her dad gave her. Awwwwwww. Thatâs as sweet as it is painful. Sheâs also currently dating Alex Hirsch, something I was entirely unaware of but find also adorable. Point is iâm glad I looked into her as sheâs a very nice person, and very much my kind of weirdo and iâm happy for her sucess and her singuarly weird show that sprung from that sucess.Â
Now that part of itâs out of the way the episode itself was an uphill battle as youâd expect. As anyone familiar with this blog is aware, but just in case your new, you tend to hear me bitching about Disneyâs handling of queer represntation a LOT
For the most part Disneyâs pretty bad at it: There was the string of âFIRST GAY CHARACTER IN AN Xâ they had going for a while.. that consisted of a character I dindât realize was gay, a kiss I didnât see, and a talk with a character who I honestly wouldnât of been looking for had disney not patted themselves on the back with some giant sized hands because htey saved some pym particles for that occasion. Ducktales was unable to have Penumbra come out as gay more clearly because I donât know Ducks canât be day.. but they can be IMPLIED to be gay or pansexual as hard as the crew possibly can so they win anyway. Pixar was able to have a gay lead character for one of itâs sparks shorts out and even focused on him coming out of the closet and itâs very good and something I WILL give Pixar credit for... but not Disney Plus who go out of their way to not mention the lead being gay.. despite the fact the short opens with a gay space cat riding a gay space dog out of a rainbow and then it being revaled our lead is in a relationship not long into the short. My point is the idiots who wonât watch this for having gay characters are just going to turn it off, who cares what they think, why are you like this Disney. They need to do better, and be better and iâm getting tired of this shit.
That being said... this episode is a step in the right directoin as despite having to get past one obstructive asshole, not her words but damn if it isnât the truth, as the rest of hte execs were fine with having a gay character, Terrace fought hard for it and WON, having a clearly gay character, and a clear road to a gay romace as the lead one, all because she wanted some representation in her works. So to honor this, I present this review in honor of love, effort and saying screw you to not having represntation because money. Join me under the cut and allt hat.Â
We open in the owl house, in the owl house, duck dodge push and shove, itâs how we show our love in the.. you get the point. Luz is learning yet another Rune, this time plant runes.. and already something I love about the series pops up: the fact Luzâs rise in skill is gradual but noticable. Each spell noticably improves in potency with time, going from simple lights to shaping them into simple constructs, and learning to control or time her spells and glpyhs so they launch she she says so, with each one getting more powerful the more she learns. And on top of that osmething I just noticed on rewatch of this episode is her tecnique in finding them evolved, something I dindât notice the first time because I hadnât fully caught up and checked this one out to see if Disney would actually let them go through with it.. and they did. Point is her first spell is found by accident, her second by realizing how her magic works fundemntally, both require skilled deduction and on the fly thinking and casting, so sheâs already pretty skilled.. but now shâes ACTIVELY seeking out a new spell here for the first time. She knows how she gets them, she knows each school is tied to a form, and she likely got the plant from williow since thatâs her thing and sheâs a saint. A demon but also a saint. They can have those too. Itâs what I assume relicor is.Â
I miss that goblin demon bat man. Point is it shows an evolution in Luzâs thinking: while itâs a subtle thing she took a more proactive approach this time even if it took a lot of practice.. and it pay soff as by the time of her next rune, while itâs once again sorta handed to her she has less time to learn it, almost none, and finds it singed onto a ball.. and learns it effortlessly to the point where by the next episode itâs a crucial plot point. ITâs subtle but clever character progression, and stuff I really enjoy, showing our hero going from a bit inept but not helpless or incomptient.. to a force to be reckconed with and far more clever and strategic than yoâud expect given her sometimes reckless and almost always happy go lucky attitude.Â
Luz worries teaching King about the internet was a bad idea because he gets excited about a literal cat fight which .. yeah... it was a bad idea but not because of that.. but because next he finds someone saying the earth is flat and she wisely yanks it away. Itâs.. very sad that the absolutley maddening and easily debunked flat earth theory is still RELATIVLEY more sane than the stuff weâve had pop up during the trump era and the cornoavirus pandemic.Â
But one of the main conlficts of the episode pops up as Luzâs mom messages her and Luz canât bring herself to tell her anything and just sends a thumbs up. I do think this episode helps even things from the pilot a bit as it was a bit lopsided: While I got that Camillia was genuinely struggling with how to deal with Luz, and was offered an out and had to take it... the fact she sees NO problem with the normalcy camp, which comes off intentioanlly or not a sa parallel to conversion camps or camps to make autistic kids âNormalâ. And as someone whose both bisexual and autistic, I naturally relate to luz way more as someone whose intrests sometimes just donât quite fit with everyone else, and who dosenât get how bad some of their actions were. THatâs why this episode feels like a necessary course correction: Luz is shown to genuinely love her mama and feel guilty.. but we see camilia genuinlely loves and supports her daughter a bit more. While it was clear from the pilot this shows it more, with her genuinely just wanting to know her daughterâs okay and checking up on her, and giving me the feeling that possible consequences or no if something bad WAS happening or she didnât hear from her for a long time, she wouldâve drove up there to get her. It feels like the writers realized the implications they accidently created and wanted to fix it, though I canât say for certain. But if so good on you for course correcting, not every show does that.Â
But King encourages her, telling her sheâs doing the right thing by lying and to âtrust the demon on your shoulderâ. Keep this in mind for later, but that joke is great on itâs own. But soon iâts time for school and Hooty.. barfs out Luzâs books for her.Â
I havenât been this disturbed since.. (Looks at the clock) About 2 maybe three hours ago when I watched a man have, if apparently shorter than the oriiginal cut as I wanted to see everyone elseâs reactions dammit, sex with hiis car which was possesed by the mad ghost of his dead wife. Because thatâs the kind of stuff iâm into when iâm not reviewing stuff. And before that Tinky.. just everything about tinky.Â
I do not have enough time to get into TInky here or why he exestially horrifies me. Or why Jeff blim is a living god. I will save that for a proper review if I have the time tomorrow. Point is I saw a lot today and that still tops it. Willow and Gus are likewise grossed out and want to leave.Â
Cut to school where Luz wonders whatâs with all the decorations.. that remind me of this honestly
And frankly given the whole state of the boiling isles it REALLY wouldnât surprise me if the decorations were indeed well cooked faces. But iâts Grom time, which means elaborate gromposals (Some Dude asks Skara out with a beating heart and an elaborate medical proposal.. which.. points for effort. And for using an actual heart. Couldnât get one for mine. ), dancing and someone being chosen for Grom Queen. WHich Willow hints isnât as nice as that sounds. Before we can get into that though Amity bumps into them and gets into a tizzy before meekly greeting âLuz.. and Coâ. which.. not going to lie.. is my faviorite gag of the season. Just htw way she adds them and just the way Willow and Guz both smile widely at it as if to say âThatâs us!â. Amity drops a note and snatches it back. This will be important later, you all know why, point is Amity becomes Grom Queen.. and is heavily depressed with Luz following her to find out why. At the gym.. she does indeed ifnd out why: Turns out Grom is not some mutation of an earthname but is based around a horrifying entity lurking beneath the isles, Gromethious the Fear Bringer, who emerges from his slumber once a year and must be fought back and brings out his targetâs greatest fears. Just like groundhog day only with less time loops and rodent abuse. Amity is scared of hers, and iâll obviously get into this more later, and Luz simply suggests asking bump to opt out and Amity appricates the support. Awwww.Â
Luz heads home and we find out Eda is chaperoning and King is mcing. Eda is also rocking a suit. Just damn girl, damn. But Luz considers taking her place.. and gets laughed at, with Eda assuming sheâll have to save her and King just being kind of a dick. I mean heâs a loveable thoroughly cuddly dick but heâs still a dick... just more like a stuffed plushie of one. So basically exactly like Tinky. Look I mention him more than once in this review he dosenât put me in the bastard box. Itâs a great system. Naturally this makes Luz more determined than ever to prove herself and she finds Amity in the night, with Amity having been unable to get out of it.. and Bumps a resonable guy, he just wants a substitute and no one wants the job.. except Luz who galdly volunteers and insists ntohing scares her before the giant spider on the back of her head proves otherwise. Because of course it does, spiders are fucking terrifying. Kill then all.. except the pokemon ones. Galvaltula are sweethearts. As are Ariadoses. Sweethearts who can elctorcute or poison you but still.Â
So the next way Luz begins preparing.. and by that I mean itâs time for training. Sadly we donât get an episode of Luz and Amity getting trapped in an 80âČs fashion montage... I mean yes Rise of the TMNT also did that plot the same year, but we had two diffrent plots about someone getting trapped in an eldtrich sitcom and a THIRD this year, all entertaingly unique. Though we do get Luz pulling out an otter suit thatâs adorable and she sadly still hasnât worn yet. âThis one says iâm an otter, with a dark sideâ. She also got thrown out of a school dance for.. wearing an otter suit. Okay the other things we saw in the pilot were understandable but htis is just.. baffling. Who cares what you wear to a dance as long as it isnât horribly racist of nothing at all.Â
Damn you flanders and your glorious ass. Point is Amity shows up and threatens hootyâs life because.. heâs hooty. The fact he isnât dead already is a testiment to how badass he is and how much money heâd cost Eda to replace. Owl Tubes donât come out of a stygian hole in the unvierse every day you know. Thatâs only every three years. Itâs basic styigan owl tube science.Â
But Amity wants her to be ready and that sheâll have to face her greatest fear.. and cue hooty popping up, poking amity in the face and asking if she wants to know her greatest fear. Really he can clearly hear everything in the house given he heard that, so he heard the death threat he just chose to ignore it. That.. was a mistake. And by mistake I mean we get a hilarious cut to the outside of the house as Luz tries to stop her love intrest from murdering her second momâs tube monster. The result is some bandages and an eyepatch. To be fair that last one was just flaring up from a previous beating.Â
For this solem task of training, Amity has brought in her local disaster bisexuals.. aka her twin siblgins Eldric and Elmyra, whose greatest fears are dying alone and being stuck with Eldric. Both understandable. They conjur luzâs greatest fears which are.. some of the funniest shit I heard all year.. and also very relatable. Human souls in cat bodies, which is genuinely terrifying good job Luz, Jerks on the internet who mansplain things, relatable, and soy milk.Â
But Amity knows this is just the openign act. it needs to be something deeper.. so while Luz dosenât realize itâs probably her mom issues she brings up her issues with her other mom: that Eda dosenât think she can do this. Hence we get a giant eda putting Luz in a babychair. Before we can unpack how wrong that sentence sounded, Eda comes out, and marvels at how hot giant her is. But sheâs quickly distracted from sex with a giant version of herself, which is not an easy feat, by the relization âWait Luz is going to fight grom isnât she.. fuck iâm going to have to save herâ, though Luz holds firm on doing it to prove sheâs fine and dosenât need to be saved constantly. itâs a good conflict. Eda IS right that Luz is not ready for this alone, that sheâs overcompensating and that Eda would, in normal circumstances be the one to rescue her. As weâll see itâs not her who does it but still, were this any other foe she probably would be. But Luzâs motivations are equally understandable: She wants to help her friend not have to do this and she wants to prove she can do it. She just wants her mentor, the only person in her life up to meeting her that GNEUINELY supported her in magic to respect her. To have faith in her and actually see how far sheâs come. And given how her own mother writes off her dreams, if not unrealistically, and before this she had no friends or support system to speak of outside her mom, itâs easy to see why this is so improtant to Luz: she just wants to make the one person in her life whose ever support her actually think it was worth it when in truth Eda already thinks it does and just dosenât want her to die.Â
Sheâs just not good with talking to her or not condescending to her as her own ego is stacked sky high, probably because the whole curse thing meant Eda was an outcast by default and the system wants to either chain her to one form of magic and one only or shackle her to them as a hired goon. Her ego, while justified, is also a defense mechanism: a way to shield herself from the fact almost no one cares about her and one of the few people who DOES, dosenât care what she wants or needs. Once the curse happened she lost just about everything and had to rebuild and thus build up walls around herself and kept everyone else at arms length till Luz changed her for the better. Itâs just a tragic clash of two wills both with similar problems but both unwilling to talk about them.Â
But with time up, our heroes need to get to the diggity dance. So they indeed do and we get some fun sight gags, Willow makes corsages, that one girl with the cresent head somehow ended up with Mathomule and is not happy, as anyone who ends up with him should. And itâs time for Luz to face her destiny.. in a tux with a tutu because of course, and Amity likes it because also of course.Â
ITâs time to rumble, with King getting nervous due to edaâs prodding about mcing since his co-mc gus is really good at it, and introducing our champion.
No wait sorry heâs still trapped in Mojoworld. no itâs still Luz who shows off a seasons worth of skill by easily dispatching the first few fears and saying to grom letâs finish it.. before grom puts a tentacle on her head.Â
Itâs to downlaod her fear.. which is Camillia. Granted we could all see it coming but still Luz obviously canât fight her own mother or her own overwhelming guilt.. her mom did hurt her.. but she gets why and just loves her and wants her to be proud but dosenât know what to do: tell her the trutha nd possibly loose a happy and fufilling life or wait until it all blows up. Itâs a painful choice. So luz and king end up running. King runs first because he canât handle it and Gus talks him back into the groove while Luz runs away because she canât fight her own mom, understandable, and Gus encourages king to lead the crowd which he does. Amity and Eda follow Luz.Â
So Luz is backed down, facing down a monster thaâts going to go on to everyone else next if she fails... and Eda prepares to interfere.. but itâs AMITY who faces her fear and dives in. And we find out just what her fear was as grom turns into a humanoid shape and rips the letter in half.. it was a grom invitation. Though conviently the who itâs adressed to was ripped out.Â
And yeah not going to save this one: Itâs Luz. You know it I know it I didnât even hide it in the intro. Even before the reveal in a bit it was obvious. But it also makes perfect sense. Iâve avoided talking about her character arc up to this point because I was waiting for now. Amityâs growth is the third major arc of the season behind Luzâs slow learning of magic and eventually induction into hexside and edaâs curse, which I lump in with Lilith chasing her since both were mildly entertwined and then entirely are once the reveal hits in the finale. When we meet her sheâs an outright bully.. but we slowly see thereâs more there. That sheâs not really HAPPY or content, is contstantly under pressure by her family name, is outright bullied by her own siblings who donât understand her. So Luz coming in, seemingly only being intrested in magic because iâts neat.. understandably bothers her. Sheâs not a great person, bullying her old best friend because thaâts whatâs expected and being close with outright bullies because of that.. but itâs through Luz she starts to grow, realizing Luz is genuinely nice and genuinely sorry for any trouble she caused Amity, and evne then both cases were causaed by Amityâs own dickishness and outside forces, so itâs easy to see why she defrosts faster. Her siblings realize theyâve genuinely hurt her, and actually try to be good siblings from then on and help her, and slowly Amity learns to truth luz, trust in her, and accept her... and thus accept her feelings for her. There are gradual hints sheâs growing attracted to her.. but her walls had to come down first, and it wouldnât of worked from the outset. The show cleverly has the two build a genuine friendship, two opposities who work well together, so when feelings do happen it feels natural. Itâs not âIâm in love with this person because I have to because you canât be friends with someone your attracted toâ bullshit or anything like that, cough star vs cough, itâs just well built catching feelings. Iâts how this kind of thing SHOULD go: niether went in intending for this to happen.. itâs just happening.Â
And Amityâs reluctance is painfully understandable, as Luz is the ONLY friend and support she has. Sure she and willow are patching things up, but WIllow would understandably choose luz over her and sheâs terrified of loosing the one good thing in her life. Of course Luz would either say yes, and probably will some day, or let her down gently, sheâs nice.. but itâs also understandable to be afraid that someone wonât take the reveal well. Iâve been there trust me, itâs easier when you let it out even if you get rejected, but I get it being hard to let out because you donât want to loose a friend. I did not, and niether would she, but I can see why she wouldnât want ot take the plunge. At least not yet. Weâll see this summer hopefully.Â
But we do get a shiptastic, gorgeously aniamted scene of the two dancing an fightin gin perfect synch, combinging luzâs new use of plant magic with amityâs mastery of abominations resulting in the two utterly decimating grom, likely in part because with two fast moving targets he canât get a lock on and likely nees more fear and mass to attack multiple targets at once. Or just more tendrils. itâs a quick, beautful sequence thatâs utterly glorious, being framed as romantic as any hetero scene of the type and rightfully so. A triumph and well deserving of this praise.Â
Our heros have won, get crowns, and King gets praise. All is well.. except Luz drops the crown once she gets home because she feels like she failed and feels lost about her mom.. though at least king gets it âIâm king and queen, best of both things!â. You tell em sister.Â
So we end with Luz genuinely responding to her mom, with some montage stuff as we see Gus and Willow poke a fear blob, willow fears bugs, understandable and Gus fears clowns...Â
Also understandable. Though I didnât put up a bug picture because
And Amity looks out folornly into the night. Camilla responds to Luz.. and mentions letters.. which while Luz brushes those off.. we see someone sent them. And by someone I probably mean king since we now know only eda and him had acess to the portal, and given he was actively encouraging her to lie.. yeah iâm supscious. But weâll see next season. For now this episode is fan fucking tastic, showing off tons of character development, being representative and sweet as all hell.. and being really funny. Tons of great gags in this one including the turtle guy from an earlier episode being forced to be adisco ball. This is easily the series best so far and if you havenât checked it out, please do itâs fantastic as is this show. Check both out. Until the next rainbow iâts been a pleasure. Tommorow more disney shenanigans this time with pete. And also more of this possibly weâll see what I get done.Â
Goodnight everybody!

The Stuff of Dreams
Ao3
Summary: Of all the ways to spend the morning of his day off, Remy really hadnât thought heâd be dying on his kitchen table. But sometimes thatâs just what happens when your roommate and crush of roughly two years kisses you on his way to work as if heâs been doing it every day of his life. Warnings: Repeated mentions of someone making/almost eating a toothpaste sandwich, sleep-deprivation, some minor self-deprecation, not actually unrequited love Pairing: Romantic creativisleep
Remy watched as Roman hurried about the kitchen. A late night well wasted with a mix of Disney and action movies had led to him sleeping in an extra half an hour, and now he was rushing through his morning routine to make sure he wasnât late for work. As he watched his roommate brush his teeth with Crofterâs and make a sandwich with toothpaste, Remy, personally, felt he had never picked a better day to call in âsick.â
It didnât help that Roman was clearly exhausted. He had been working a lot of late nights recently. Last night had been one of his earliest nights off in two weeks, and even then, he had been back around eight pm. The movie night had been Remyâs attempt to get him to relax and, hopefully, tire him out enough he slept in long enough Remy could call in âsickâ for him too. He needed the break.
But in disabling his alarms, Remy had missed Romanâs secret one, and his plan to get Roman a proper day off had failed. Now, the exhausted dreamer stuck in a retail job he was not getting paid nearly enough for was going to go to work anyways, and he was going to do it running on all of four hours of sleep.
That plan really worked out well.
Roman zipped his lunchbox up with easily more force than he needed to use, still rushing as he shoved it in his bag alongside his keys, his phone, an egg, some gloves he definitely wouldnât need halfway through May, his wallet, and a pinch of salt.
âYou sure you donât want to just call in sick, hun?â Remy asked, Roman shaking his bag as if he was mixing the contents together. Given the salt and egg, Remy was starting to think Roman was trying to bake a cake in his bag. âYou look like you could do with a nap. Or just a whole day spent catatonic.â
Roman shook his head, finally pulling his bag over his shoulder, looking ready to head out. âI need the money. Iâll be fine.â He explained. Remy sighed and leaned on his hand as Roman hurried past him, towards the door.
Before getting there, however, Roman back-tracked, coming back into the kitchen as he said, âOops, almost forget.â
   âForgot what, some sugar-â
Remyâs snark died on his tongue when Roman came up beside him and, without thinking, as if it was the most normal thing in the world, leaned over and kissed him right on the forehead.
âHave a good day, dear.â Roman murmured, not seeming to notice that Remyâs jaw had dropped or that he was now staring off at some far off point, completely unresponsive. He left, then, the sound of the door opening and closing just barely reaching Remyâs ears.
It wasnât until a solid fifteen minutes had passed that Remy finally reacted, and even then, all he did was scream. The screaming was quickly followed by his head dropping onto the table, where it rested as he looked searchingly at the plastic surface.
   Roman had kissed him.
Roman. His roommate of two years. Crush of one year and 50 weeks. Absolute prettiest man to exist. Very possibly a shooting star personified. Had kissed him. On the forehead as he left for work. Like they were a married couple in an old black-and-white movie.
That was it. Remy was going to die.
What else was he going to do? It was obvious to him that Roman, tired and probably distracted in his thoughts, had kissed Remy on accident. Maybe he briefly thought Remy was someone else, Virgil or Patton or another one of his coworkers. Goodness knows Remy had listened to him talk about them all enough. Chances had it he liked at least one of them.
The one person he definitely hadnât been thinking about when he kissed Remy was, of course, Remy. Remy had come to terms with it a while ago that Roman was bright and big and beautiful. The whole world wasnât just a stage but Romanâs stage and Roman was going to put on the best performance anyone had ever seen, Remy knew. Roman needed someone who was just as amazing and wonderful as he was.
Remy was a coffee-guzzling IT tech who was going to die young, pretty, and alone. Him and Roman? In his dreams and his dreams alone.
Except one of his dreams had just skipped off the sleepy-time screen and played out in real life, leaving Remy feeling completely shocked and a tad bit giddy. And even if he knew it was nothing more than an accident, a mistake made in a haze of sleep-deprivation on Romanâs part, it had still happened, and his heart had still fluttered, and his entire life had still just fallen to pieces because, really, was he ever going to do any better than that?
Nope! He was not! The highest moment of his life would forever be when Roman accidentally kissed his forehead.
Of course, that meant that the subsequent lowest moment of his life would be that night, when Roman got home and likely refused to talk to him for a week or so, because as amazing as that single mistake had been for Remy, it was likely just as embarrassing for Roman.
For a moment, Remy wondered if the consequences were worth it. But then he thought back for a second to when Roman had kissed him, so quickly but still so gently, calling him âdearâ like he was the most important person in Romanâs life, and as he simultaneously melted and died some more, he decided that any consequence the world could throw at him would be worth it so long as he could treasure that moment forever.
After all, things couldnât get too bad from here, right?
   ~~
Turns out, things could get really, really bad from here.
Because Roman had been home for over an hour now (he had been sent home early at five pm, saying that his manager had deemed him a âhazardâ to supplies and others; given that a moment later he was telling Remy about how he almost actually ate his toothpaste sandwich for lunch, Remy was inclined to agree with his manager) and he hadnât acknowledged the incident. Not once. There were no awkward glances at Remy or random apologies or general weird tension in the air. He was just acting like nothing had happened.
And it was driving Remy insane.
He thought living with it would be hard, but living as if it had never happened?Â
Somehow a million times worse.
He had spent the entire day preparing for every possible scenario, from Roman being too ashamed to admit it happened to Roman being angry that he had been stupid enough to do something so foolish. But ignorance? Acting as if nothing had happened? He had no plans for that.
He managed to stand it, at first, figured that this was overall better. After all, Remy didnât want to acknowledge it, so if Roman didnât want to either⊠well, that all worked out, didnât it?
Except two hours passed, Remy couldnât stop looking at Roman and thinking about that moment, and it was becoming very quickly apparent to him that this was NOT working out.
It finally came to a head right where it had begun: the kitchen. Remy was leaning against the counter, distractedly sipping a coffee as Roman slapped together a sandwich (a proper one, this time) for dinner. He was watching Roman (which was nothing new), but now, every time that Roman would glance over at him he glanced down, focusing on his coffee instead.
Eventually, Roman cleared his throat. âSomething youâd like to share with the class?â
Remy glanced up from his coffee, raising an eyebrow. âSomething you want me to share with the class?â
Roman shrugged. âYouâve just been acting a little odd, thatâs all.â
Remy couldnât stop himself from snorting. âIâve been acting odd?â
âYeah, you keep looking away from me- what, did I say something? Is there something on my face?â Roman asked, hands quickly brushing over his cheeks as if he might find a bug on it or something.
Remy just stared at him in bewilderment. âOh, sugar, you canât be serious.â
Roman just stared back at him in confusion, however, and Remy sighed. âI canât believe youâre making me say thisâŠâ He bemoaned before waving his free hand at Roman and continuing, deadpan, âYou kissed me.â
â...What?!â
Remy nodded. âYep! You kissed me! This morning! Right before you left for work! Right smack dab in the middle of my forehead like weâre some sorta of nineteen-twenties domestic couple!â He said, punctuating every statement with a gesture of his hand. âSo, yâknow. Thereâs that âoddâ behavior.â
âOh.â Roman said, suddenly much more calm than he had been a moment ago. âJust on the forehead?â
âWell I wouldnât say âjust,â but on the forehead, yes.â
Roman shrugged and turned back to his sandwich. âMy apologies, then. Mustnât have been thinking.â
âMustnât have been-â Remyâs eyes widened. âThatâs it? Thatâs your reaction?!â
âWell, yeah.â Roman said, once more looking at Remy. âIt was just a minor slip of the sleep-deprived mind. If I seriously overstepped your boundaries, though, please, Remy, know that I do mean it when I say Iâm sorry-â
âNo, thatâs not-â Remy stopped himself, pinching the bridge of his nose and shaking his head. âI need you to treat this as importantly as it is.â
Roman raised an eyebrow. âBut itâs not importantâŠ?â
âActually, it kinda is.â Remy snapped, though he sighed immediately afterwards, regretting the tone he knew just came from the stress. âTo me, anyways.â
Roman frowned, confusion replaced with concern. âWhy?â
Remy watched Romanâs face for a moment before he finally shook his head, looking up at the ceiling. âBecause you are beautiful and wonderful and amazing and, honest to god, perfect.â He admitted, still refusing to look at Roman. Part of him felt stupid for saying all of it, for giving up the ruse he had been pulling for almost two years, but at this point he didnât know what else to say to make Roman understand why the kiss was so stupidly important. âAnd I have had a crush on you for too long for you to just- just do that and act like itâs nothing. So, yeah. Itâs kinda important to me.â
For a minute, he was met by nothing more than dead silence, and every second it dragged on made him feel worse and worse. He was beginning to contemplate the benefits of just running away, right then, and never coming back, when Roman finally said, so quietly Remy almost missed it, âYou have a crush on me?â
Remy looked back at Roman at that, finding his roommate wide-eyed, expression shocked. He held his gaze for a moment before he looked to the side. âYeah. For a while. If it makes you feel better, I never meant to let you know, but⊠yeah.â
Once more, the silence stretched, Remyâs mind wandering to how far he could get from the apartment in a minute when Roman broke it again, this time with, âDo you know why I kissed you this morning?â
Remy half-shrugged, still looking away. âYou were tired. Maybe thinking about your own crush. Virgil, maybe? I donât know.â
âI was thinking of my own crush, yes.â Roman confirmed, sounding closer, somehow. âI do that, sometimes, when Iâm bored or tired. Think about him. You know what I think about, when Iâm bored or tired and thinking about my crush?â
Remy bit the inside of his mouth, feeling more than a little hurt by everything Roman was saying. Why did he have to hear this? Was this Romanâs response to Remyâs stupid crush? Cruelty? âWhat?â
âI think about slow dancing with him at two pm, and distracting him when itâs his nights to make dinner with smooches, and listening to his heartbeat while I fall asleep holding him, and kissing him goodbye every morning before I go to work.â Roman said, slowly, drawing out the last one extra long and making Remy feel extra worse. He was definitely closer now, and Remy was certain if he looked over heâd find Roman right beside him.
âYou mustâve been really out of it, then, to get me mixed up with someone you think about so much.â Remy said, subdued, crossing his arms and wishing for all the world he could just disappear.
âRemy, look at me.â Remy didnât, finding he was relatively sure he preferred the sight of their cluttered table to whatever anger or disappointment or other negative emotion heâd find in Romanâs expression. His choice, however, proved to be pointless, Romanâs hand coming up to cup Remyâs cheek and forcing him to look at Roman.
To his surprise, Remy found that Roman didnât look angry or disappointed. Instead, he was smiling, just a little, mouth quirked up a bit and his eyes bright and his expression almost what Remy wouldâve called fond. âI didnât mix anyone up.â He said, softly, gently, in a tone that would have made Remy melt in any other circumstances. âYou canât mix one person up.â
âYou lost me.â Remy said, which wasnât entirely true, because he was fairly certain he knew that Roman was trying to say, but the problem was that that was impossible, absurd, the stuff of dreams and dreams alone-
âYouâre my crush, Remy.â Roman said, still softly, still gently, his smile growing a fraction as he did so. âAnd in almost two years I donât think Iâve gone a single morning without thinking about how lovely it would be to kiss you goodbye like it was the most commonplace thing in the world.â
Remy just blinked at Roman at first, not having immediately processed what he said. Once it sunk in, however, he could feel his cheeks colouring as he let out a little gasp, hurt and confusion being quickly replaced by shock and joy.
âYou sap.â He gasped, and before Roman could so much as widen his smile Remyâs arms were wrapped around the back of his neck and pulling Roman in for a proper kiss.
âYouâre going to skip work tomorrow.â Remy said when they finally pulled apart, breathlessly, leaning his forehead against Romanâs and still holding him close. âI donât care if you say youâve got the plague or if you quit, but youâre staying home tomorrow and weâre going to sleep until two pm and weâre only going to wake up then so that you can show me how to slow dance like a proper domestic couple.â
Roman smiled, and they were close enough that Remy couldnât just see it but feel it against his lips. âOnly if you promise that weâll be sleeping together.â
âI wouldnât have it any other way.â Remy responded easily, though he pulled back a smidge when Roman tried to kiss him again. âBut Iâm taking your pj pants. The fuzzy ones with crowns on them. And if you think Iâm not stealing your biggest shirt then, really, lover boy, you donât know me.â
âFor the prettiest boy in the world? You can have my whole wardrobe.â Roman answered. âNow can I have another kiss?â
âFor the prettiest boy in the whole damn universe?â Remy said, raising an eyebrow as he smirked, tugging Roman closer to him and whispering against his lips before he fulfilled his request, âYou can have a million.â

hi!!! what are your favourite movies? like actually good ones but also any trashy comfort movies? is IT (2017) one of them?
Hello!! IT (2017) IS ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THEM oh man, thank you for this, I love talking about movies!!!! This is possibly the most difficult question you could have asked me. Apologies for how absolutely off the rails this got, I just... love movies so much lmao
Iâve said this before, but opening night of IT ch1 was the best cinema experience Iâve ever had, Iâm so glad I got to see it with a fully packed audience who were all laughing and screaming together the whole way through. Iâm a huge fan of... everything ch1 was doing, the 80s nostalgia, the summer-coming-of-age themes, the solid ghost train funhouse JOY of the Pennywise performance and scares, the washed-out cinematography, the tiny background details to make everything that much more eerie, the kidsâ ACTING?!
Like, a lot of the time I find child actors can be really awkward and stilted to watch, but I remember leaving the cinema really impressed by JDG and Sophia Lillis in particular. I liked that they were all allowed to be little shitheads with potty mouths, it felt like a callback to 80s movies like The Lost Boys or Stand By Me. The whole thing worked to make me really care about what happened to the kids (even if I do still have issues with how they handled Mike. I understand even ch1 had limitations with juggling so many characters, but still). I saw it another 2 times in the cinema and have rewatched it at least, I dunno, 7-10 more times since then?
Add to all of that the retroactive CANON R+E baby pining subplot? I just love it, as if that wasnât obvious by now given my Whole Blog. Itâs a really special movie to me!
Anyway!! Ok, the main handful of movies I rewatch all the fucking time are:
Back to the Future, The Lost Boys, Pride and Prejudice (2005), Jaws, Ferris Buellerâs Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Oceanâs 11, POTC 1, The Dark Knight, Inception, Die Hard, LOTR trilogy, Snatch, The Nice Guys, Logan Lucky, Mad Max Fury Road, Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, Billy Elliot, Dirty Dancing, Tomb Raider (2018)...
Those are the easily consumable ones that Iâve seen so many times I donât really have to concentrate or think about them, but I really love them and unfortunately often KEEP rewatching them instead of new stuff. It would take too long to go into why I love all these movies so much because I could write the same amount as I already did for ITCH1, and everyone already knows why those movies are good, so, lol.
I think Iâm gonna have to subdivide and categorise this whole post because there are too many separate criteria for... goOD MOVIES, AUUHH đ©
Okay so first off, HORROR MOVIES? Iâm especially in love with Re-Animator (1985) and its sequel Bride of Re-Animator, theyâre such good examples of camp and batshit 80s practical effects, and also EXTREMELY funny. Iâm actually just gonna post my list of my fave horror movies that I do actually keep on my phone at all times lmao. These are in no particular order:
Wholeheartedly recommend every one of these. Iâve never been so scared in my life as I was watching Hereditary in the cinema, hoo boy. Mother! by Aronofsky is one of the strangest experiences Iâve ever had (and I actually saw it on the same day I saw IT ch1 for the first time!! That was a fun day)
Psycho (1960) and The Fly from 1986 should also be on there but I couldnât fit them in the screenshot.
Iâm a HUGE fan of a ton of martial arts movies too, like Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer, Ip Man, The Raid movies, John Wick 3 is my fave of the trilogy, Drive from 1997 with Mark Dacascos is incredible, SPL 2, Ong-Bak, Operation Condor, Project A, Iron Monkey, and Zatoichi (2003) are some favourites.
My favourite Tarantino is Reservoir Dogs, fave Coen brothers are Raising Arizona, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and O Brother Where Art Thou. Love some old-timey colour correction and weird offbeat dialogue. I also love Goodfellas!!! And Donnie Brasco! And The Firm, Iâm so easy for any good crime/law/gangster/heist procedural like that, especially if theyâre from the 80s or 90s in a super dated way.
Fave Disney movie is Tarzan, favourite Ghibli movies are Spirited Away and Lupin III. I remember watching Spirited Away during a thunderstorm one time and it being.... god! Transcendent! Favourite Pixar movie is The Incredibles (the first one. ALSO the documentary âThe Pixar Storyâ is great and well worth a watch, itâs very comforting for some reason) and my favourite Dreamworks movies are HTTYD1 and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron.
I tend to watch more anime movies than tv shows, so stuff like Akira, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Journey to Agartha, and my ultimate fave anime is Sword of the Stranger (2008). The climactic fight in that movie is fucking stunning and should be counted in âbests fightsâ lists right alongside anything live action
Also if weâre talking animated movies another hearty favourite is Rango, and a Belgian stop-motion (which at one time I considered my favourite movie ever) called Panique Au Village (2009) which is one of the funniest movies ever made imo.
As for TRASHY movies, Iâm not sure if thatâs the right word for how I feel about these ones but.. dumb/silly/slightly guilty pleasure movies? Ones that I feel need some kind of justification lmfao
Troy - something u must know about me is that Iâm a giant slut for the Assassinâs Creed franchise, so if a movie smashes historical and mythological nonsense together with fun costumes and sword fights, Iâm gonna enjoy myself. Even if they should have made Achilles and Patroclus gay. Other movies in this vein are King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and Immortals (2011)
Gods of Egypt - I know all the reasons this movie is whitewashed bullshit. But it was already bullshit with giant Anubis mecha and giant snakes and bad acting and ridiculous CGI and frankly I had a blast at the cinema (my friend who I forced to come with me did not have a blast. Sorry H***)
Avatar - yes, the one with the big blue people. This movie gets a lot of flack nowadays but I really do enjoy it just for the spectacle. The full CGI world technology was so new at the time and I love to wallow in the visuals and daydream about riding a cool dragon around in the jungle
George of the Jungle - Iâll defend this movie to the death ok this movie shaped me as a person, it is fucking hilarious and Brendan Fraser is the himbo to end all himbos. Itâs perfect. The song Dela is perfect. I still want to write a reddie AU about it. Itâs one of the best movies ever made and Iâm not being ironic
Set It Up - I KNOW this is a dumb Netflix original romcom but consider this; it was funny and the leads had great chemistry. I got butterflies. I once watched it and then literally immediately set it back to the start so I could watch it again
The Brady Bunch Movie - when people talk about great satires or parodies you will see them bring up the same movies over and over again, Blazing Saddles, This Is Spinal Tap etc, but they never talk about The Brady Bunch Movie from 1995 for some reason, which they should. It is one of the funniest things Iâve ever seen and every time i watch it somehow it gets funnier
Some more general favourites that I do still love but donât rewatch as often, and donât wanna go into more detail about are:
Moon (2009), Crna MaÄka Beli MaÄor, The Sixth Sense, Parasite, The Handmaiden, Tremors, Wet Hot American Summer, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, What We Do In The Shadows, Hunt For the Wilderpeople, The Secret of My Success (I love kitschy 80s movies, is that obvious by now), The Green Mile, When Harry Met Sally, Rear Window, The Odd Couple, Breaking Away, Panâs Labyrinth, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Eagle, Gladiator, The Artist, The Extraordinary Adventures of AdĂšle Blanc-Sec, Call Me By Your Name, Master and Commander, Pacific Rim, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Legend (1985), Emma. (2020), Flash Gordon, Trolljegeren, Hross Ă Oss, Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, WarGames, District 9, Ajeossi (2010), Tracks (2013), Sightseers, Mud (2012), Pitch Black, Four Lions, Shaun of the Dead, Starship Troopers, The Truman Show, Withnail & I....... Jesus Christ ok I need to stop
NOTABLE EXTREME FAVOURITES that I didnât include in the regular rewatch list because theyâre too heavy/not as well known/require more attention.:
Thin Red Line (1998), Badlands (1973) both dir. Terrence Malick
Malickâs brand of dreamy impressionistic filmmaking is something I find really appealing, both of these movies are gorgeous and unusual and poignant and, in the case of Thin Red Line at least, have a lot of things to say about a lot of rough subjects. I donât totally understand all those things sometimes, but a theme with a lot of my favourite movies is that Iâll be more likely to love something long-term if it raises unanswered questions, or is surreal/esoteric etc. Plus the cinematography is incredible, and I wish there was a way to get Jim Caviezelâs narration from The Thin Red Line as an audiobook because itâs very poetic and soothing.
Let the Bullets Fly (2010) dir. Jiang Wen
This movie is WILD, itâs so much fun. Itâs sprawling and intricate and epic and smart and really fucking funny, it! Has! Everything! A gang of very tolerant outlaws!! Jiang Wenâs beautiful broad chest!!! Chow Yun Fat absolutely DECIMATING the scenery, and the two of them outsmarting each other in order to gain control of a small Chinese town!!! Plus itâs long, but it packs so much nonsense and intrigue that it goes by really fast. Wow what a flick
A Field in England (2013) dir. Ben Wheatley
I know I included this in my horror list but aaaaahhh ahhhh Wheatley is one of my favourite directors (he also made Sightseers, and is directing the Tomb Raider sequel which makes me absolutely rabid.) This is a surreal black-and-white psychological horror black comedy set in the English Civil War about some deserters who may or may not meet the Devil in a field. People eat mushrooms. Itâs bonkers. I love being blasted in the face with imagery that I donât understand
Mandy (2018) dir. Panos Cosmatos
Speaking of being blasted in the face!!!!! This movie... I saw it in the cinema and I canât even begin to explain the experience, but Iâll try. My favourite review site described it like this:
â...somewhere between a prog album cover come to life and a metal album cover come to life, and subscribes to both genre's artistic tendency towards maximalism: what it ends up being is basically naught else but two glorious hours of being pounded by bold colors...â
So, prog and metal are my two favourite genres of music. This movie opens with the quote âWhen I die, bury me deep, lay two speakers at my feet, put some headphones on my head and rock and roll me when I'm dead.â and then a King Crimson song, it is SURREAL to the nth degree, itâs violent and bizarre and Nic Cage forges a giant silver axe to destroy demonic bikers and there is a CHAINSAW DUEL. A galaxy swirls above a quarry. Multiple animated horror nightmare sequences. At one point a man says âyou exude a cosmic darknessâ and releases a live tiger. At another point Cage says, in a digitally deepened voice, âThe psychotic drowns where the mystic swims. Youâre drowning. Iâm swimming.â and I havenât stopped thinking about it for two years
Paper Moon (1973) dir. Peter Bogdanovich
Really fantastic movie set in the Great Depression (and also in black & white) about a conman and a little kid who may or may not be his daughter, running cons across the Midwest. Itâs beautifully shot, so sharp and sweet and the progression of their dynamic is really well done because theyâre played by an IRL father and daughter. Tatum OâNeal was NINE YEARS OLD and sheâs so amazing in this movie sheâs actually the youngest person to win a competitive category Oscar. I keep trying to get people to watch this fbdjfjdbf itâs wonderful
Alpha (2018) dir. Albert Hughes
THIS MOVIE IS A VICTIM OF BAD MARKETING ok, the trailers made it look like some twee crappy sentimental Boy And His Dog Adventure, plus it had voiceovers in American-accented english? Thatâs a total disservice to one of the coolest things about this film; the fact that they got a linguist to construct an entirely original Neolithic language that all the characters speak for the entire runtime. And yes, it is eventually a Boy And His Wolf adventure, but itâs COOL and fairly brutal, and it has some really incredible cinematography. The landscapes are so strange and barren and alien, you really get the sense that this is an ancient world we no longer have any connection to. And itâs also about like, the birth of dog & human companionship sooo itâs perfect.
Free Solo (2018) dir. Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin
The Free Climbing Documentary. I loved climbing as a kid, I love outdoor sports, and I love movies that elicit a physical reaction in me, whether thatâs horny, scared, real laughter, overwhelming shivers, or in the case of Free Solo - HORRIBLE SWEATING TENSION. Like, I knew about Alex Honnold beforehand because of this adventure film festival I go to every year and I followed him on IG so obviously I knew he lived, but the actual climb itself was torture. My hands sweat every time I see it!! Itâs incredible, such a cool look into generally what the human body can do, and more specifically, why Honnoldâs psychology and life means heâs so well suited to free soloing. Itâs such an exercise in getting to know an individual and get invested in them, before they attempt something very potentially fatal.
Brokeback Mountain (2005) dir. Ang Lee
I canât even talk about this. When I was around 13 I snuck downstairs to watch this on TV at 11pm in secret, and my life was forever changed. I wouldnât be who I am if I hadnât seen Brokeback at the age I did. I seriously canât talk about this or Iâll write an even longer essay than this already is
Godâs Own Country (2017) dir. Francis Lee
The antidote to Brokeback Mountain, Iâm so glad I managed to see this one in the cinema too. It makes me cry every time, as someone whoâs spent years working on a cold British farm with sheep it was very realistic, which is expected since Lee grew up on a farm in Yorkshire. I love that this movie isnât really about being closeted, but about being so emotionally repressed and self-loathing that the main character finds it so hard to accept love. Or that he deserves to be loved. The cinnamontographies.... lordt... but also the intimacy and sex scenes are fucking searing wow who hasnât seen this movie by now. 10 stars. 20 stars!!!
Tomboy (2011) dir. CĂ©line Sciamma
I saw this years ago but Iâve never forgotten it, it cut so deep. Itâs from the director of Portrait of a Lady on Fire and itâs about a gnc kid struggling with gender and misogyny and homophobia in a really raw, scrappy way, it reminded me very much of my own... childhood... ahh the central performance is amazing for such a young age. I havenât seen Portrait yet but I feel like if you went nuts for that, you should definitely check this out, itâs lovely.
Donnie Darko (2001) dir. Richard Kelly
EVERY TIME I WATCH THIS MOVIE I UNDERSTAND LESS AND LESS and thatâs what I love so much about it. I love surreal movies, I love time-fuckery and stuff about altered perception etc etc and Donnie Darko scratches all my itches. I wish I could find a way to figure out an IT AU for it, because I know it would work! Somehow! Plus itâs got the subdued 80s nostalgia and I found it at an age when I was really starting to explore movies and music and the soundtrack FUCKS.
Offside (2006) dir. Jafar Panahi
I wish more people knew about this!!! Itâs an Iranian film about a disparate group of women and girls who are football fans and want to watch Iranâs qualifying match for the World Cup, but women arenât allowed into the stadium, so they all get thrown into the Stadium Jail together? They donât know each other beforehand, but itâs about their changing relationships with each other and the guards and just, their defiance alongside hearing the match from the outside and WOW itâs so lively. Great dialogue and very funny, and such a different kind of story from anything you usually see from Hollywood.
The Fall (2006) dir. Tarsem Singh
This movie... I guess itâs the ideal. This is the platonic ideal of a film for me, it has fantasy, magical realism, glorious visuals, amazing score and costumes and production design and a really interesting, heartbreaking relationship at the core of it. I donât know why so many of my favourite films feature incredibly raw performances by child actors but this is another one, Catinca Untaru barely knew any English and improvised so much because of that, and itâs fascinating to watch! Also the dynamic with Lee Pace is one of my favourites, where a kid forms a friendship with a guardian figure who isnât their parent, but the guardian grows to really care for them by the end. Itâs like Paper Moon in that sense. What is there to even say about this movie, itâs pure magic joy tempered and countered by genuine gutwrenching emotional conflict in the real world, itâs also ABOUT old moviemaking, in a way, and itâs stunning to look at!
Mad Max Fury Road (2015) dir. George Miller
I know I included this in my âmost rewatchedâ section but it deserves its own thing. We all know why this movie is fucking incredible. I remember clutching my armrests in the cinema and feeling like my skeleton was being blasted back into the seat behind me and tbh that is the high Iâm constantly chasing when I go to see any movie. What a fucking gift this film is
ThĂ©o et Hugo dans le MĂȘme Bateau (2016) dir. Olivier Ducastel, Jacques Martineau
I only found this movie last year and it became an instant favourite. Initially I was just curious because Iâd never seen a movie with unsimulated sex before, but itâs so much more than the 18 minute gay sex club orgy it opens with. No, not more than, AS WELL AS. The orgy is important because this movie is so candid and frank about sex and HIV treatment in the modern day, it was eye-opening. Another thing that really got me is that Iâd never seen a real-time film before. Itâs literally an hour and a half in the lives of these two men, their intense connection and conversation and conflict in the middle of the night in Paris, with some really nice night photography and just!!! Wow!!! AMAZING CHEMISTRY between the actors. This is such a gem if youâre comfortable with explicit sexual content.
Ok. This is already over 3k but film is obviously one of my ridiculous passions and I can and do talk about it for hours. Iâve been reading magazines about it for years, listening to podcasts and reading review blogs and recently, watching video essays on YouTube because the whole process is so interesting to me and I want to learn more!!
Recently Iâve been thinking a lot about the concept of valuing form over narrative. The idea that story can often come second to the deeper physical experience and emotional reaction thatâs created by using ALL the elements of filmmaking and not just The Story, yâknow? Whether thatâs editing, shot composition, colour, the sound mix, the actors, how it should all be used to heighten the emotional state the script wants you to feel. And so, I think for a few years now this approach has been influencing the types of films I really, really love.
I think I love surreality and mind-bending magical realism in films specifically because the filmmakers have to use all those different tools to convey things that can be way too metaphysical for just... a script? Iâm always chasing that physical response; if a movie can make me stop thinking âI wonder what it was like to set up that shotâ and instead overwhelm that suspension of disbelief, if I can be terrified or woozy or crying for whatever reason, thatâs what Iâm looking for. Thatâs why I watch so many fuckin movies, and why Iâll always remember nights like seeing IT (2017) for giving me another favourite.
Thank you again for this question, I didnât mean to go so overboard. Also thereâs no way to do a readmore on tumblr mobile so apologies to anyoneâs dashboard đŹ
#long post#films#this is like bill hader being asked to pick his fave comedies and he gives a 4 page list#he has such good taste though ahhahbfhfhfhh lemme talk with him nonstop about movies while i ride him. thank you

"The truth is we're both frauds. Your ancestors didn't send me, they don't even like me. But you risked your life to save the people you love. I risked your life to help myself. At least you had good intentions.
What? What do you mean you're not lucky? You lied to me?
And what are you a sheep?
That's it! Dishonor, dishonor on your whole family! Make a note of this; dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow!
Of course. I'm travel sized for your connivence. If I was my real size your cow here would die of fright." (Mushu, Mulan.)
I feel like everybody has that one Disney side character that they'd fight for and for a lot of people that character is Mushu from Mulan. He became easily one of Disney's most popular side characters. Throughout much of my childhood spent in front of the television the ridiculous tiny dragon was there for me making me laugh and feel better. He became a hug part of who I am andI feel like I owe a lot to my favorite goofball on Disney history.
Only one other Disney side character I know their dialogue and every line that they have. Only one other one I quote regularly with my dad as well. We're saving that comfort character for next month though, so be on the lookout for that! (I'll give you a hint that hint is August 11th.) But anyways back to Mushu. Mushu to me is about light and humor in every bad situation. He's about making light jokes and having fun with Mulan. He's also about being genuinely kind in my personal opinion and has one of my favorite vulnerable moments out of any Disney character. That moment of him talking with Mulan on the rock about what they messed up with doing in life became one of my most memorable Disney moments.
Only one other Disney character manages to be both funny and vulnerable. Mushu manages to both make me laugh and feel bad for what he goes through regularly with the ancestors that he works for. Even though he messes up and makes mistake that's why he's perfect for Mulan. Two very imperfect people who have both struggled to find their place in the world found each other and learned from each other that being perfect isn't feasibly possible. They'd rather be screwups together than be apart from each other (we don't count the sequel. We don't speak of that in this house.) The emotional core of Mushu is what carries his character and my love for him is mostly built upon that emotional core.
Even though he's vulnerable though that doesn't decrease the funny. I can't tell you how many times I've quoted him with one of my best friends or with my parents it's something that has stuck with me because right when I started getting into Mushu was when I started laughing at word jokes rather than people getting their head hit with a mallet (thank you for that Pinky~). The most common one has been with my dad "Did I hear someone ask for a miracle? Let me hear you say I? AHH! That's close enough." Mushu to me is days spent referencing his lines for every situation. It's learning lines that I found hilarious to make myself laugh on my bad days. He brought me peace and reprieve when I was being bullied and put down right after I moved during school.
I'm about to give my followers a controversial hot take. You guys ready for it? Eddie Murphy as Mushu >>>>>>>>>>> Eddie Murphy as Donkey in Shrek. I actually hate Shrek. I never found it funny and his voice always felt low key out of place there. But I love him for Mushu. I think that voice fits his personality. Mushu's personality has to be fast talking, snarky, sometimes a bit dry, loud and brash, but have that sensitivity to him that makes his relatability to Mulan seem plausible. Eddie Murphy is one of my favorite actors and comedians. I think that comedians lend themselves better to animation than your traditional Hollywood dramatic actor. They led themselves to bigger reactions which can make the character more dynamic than the others.
To me Mushu is about laughter in terms of growing up. It's turning on the movie when all everyone around me did that day was put me down and tell me that I was just some weirdo who wouldn't make it anywhere. I related to that feeling of worthlessness and not being happy with that person that you are. But he still finds peace with the fact that he isn't like everyone else around him. He learns that he'd rather be himself than what the ancestors want him to be. For years I've wanted to get a tattoo of Mushu on my arm that says "I'm travel sized for your connivence." I grew up loving his character and through that I was able to accept that I was different but still be able to be happy with that weirdness and that different sense of humor.

New Year, New Tears || Morgan & Deirdre
TIMING: December 30, 2020
PARTIES: @deathduty & @mor-beck-more-problems
SUMMARY: Morgan and Deirdre need to talk before they can start the new year fresh.Â
Say that you'll hold me forever Say that the wind won't change on us Say that we'll stay with each other And it will always be like this
CONTAINS: brief, non-specific references to past abuse, negative self-talk
Morgan had made sure they arrived in New York in time for checking in and knocking off the first few items on the itinerary sheâd devised. Initially, Morgan had organized the activities mix-and-match style according to how many hours they had at their disposal and how much time they wanted to spend in bed. In the fall, she had imagined a lot of New York would pass by behind drawn curtains while they had as many kinds of sex as they could think of and they would content themselves with only so many big things and so many little things into their three and a half days away from Maine. Today, it went like this: they dropped their bags off in their suite (in the first room, Morgan insisted they could work it out later), walked to a gourmet bakery, and took what Deirdre didnât eat at the place up to Central Park. Then came a taxi to a cluster of rare and second-hand bookshops, and just enough time to change before catching the evening showing of Hadestown. Morgan left the theater with her arms tight around Deirdreâs waist, singing her favorite song with careless delight.
Paris had been good to them, a testament just how easy things could be. The days after stung a little, because Morgan felt weird about their bedroom, didnât want to stay in the hotel long term, didnât have the tiny house Deirdre had offered to help her assemble in the back yard yet, and feared latching on too hard and destabilizing herself all over again if she dove in âbusiness almost as usualâ style. Because she did latch. Her heartâs freedom and her Yuletide warmth had stayed with her, sending tingles up her skin and reaching out to Deirdre to share and spread the relief between them. Touch was intuitive again, smiles came more easily--but where was the line between happiness and impending danger? She hadnât been able to tell the difference before; would the universe guide her steps and show her now? And so every day ended a little different. Every coming and going hit a different note, some off key, some resonant with hope. But tonight, in a world so iconic and strange it seemed like something sheâd dreamed, Morgan couldnât find any of her old apprehensions. She couldnât imagine doing anything but staying next to her love until the sun rose out their window. She tumbled into their hotel room, still singing, and kicked off her heels and jumped up for a heavy kiss. âSo, you really liked it? Iâve been wanting to ask, but I couldnât really hear in the street: which song was your favorite--no, which part in the story? I wanna know everything youâre thinking about.â She parted just to shove their suitcases off the bed and flop onto it, evening dress and all.
Human stories delighted Deirdre in a way that often felt forbidden. The fae stories focused far more on mischief and chaos and humans dying, and while those were fine, they were nothing like the stories Morgan had shown her. The kind she had come to enjoy greatly. When Morgan told her theyâd watch a musical, she thought of all the ones she was familiar with; Waitress, The Sound of Music, that one about the pies with human meat, and if those Disney movies counted, then those too. But what she watched was nothing of the sort, and New York, as exciting as it had already been, seemed brighter, warmer, livelier. Was this what it was like to be human; uncomplicated and free? Could they eat baked goods, watching the sun set, going to bookstores, absorbing stories finely crafted by strangers? Could they be so....normal? Deirdreâs smile faltered for a moment as she watched Morgan flop on the hotel bed. For the duration of their trip, she kept a watchful eye over her happiness; she had been trained well in the ways it needed to be contained. And her hands, that wanted Morgan then and wanted Morgan now, needed to be reined in. They couldnât be so normal, not yet. Normal them would have been making love by now, evening dresses crumpled on the floor. And that question would have been asked breathless, in her arms, just as Morgan remembered she never heard the answer, and had gotten distracted along the way. Normal them would have slept like that, woke up like that, went about their days exactly like that. Normal them didnât need to worry about tamping down happiness, they simply were. But normal them was wrong, somehow, as Morgan had said it and as Deirdre struggled to understand. And normal them was gone, and present them needed to work on building a good future them so they wouldnât break again.
But holding each other was âfreeâ, and so whatever compunctions Deirdre had about intimacy now, that wasnât one. And she fell into bed beside Morgan, pulling her love into her arms until they were tangled together the way they fit best. âYou mean you couldnât hear me over your singing,â Deirdre teased with a laugh, delighted in equal parts by memory of the show and Morganâs glee. If sheâd thought Morganâs squealing in the snow in Paris was the happiest she might see Morgan for the year, she only wished she could go back and tell herself not to be so sure. âAnd youâre sure no one saw me crying in the theater, right? Because I donât--â She cut herself off with a chuckle, âwell, I donât know. Maybe you should sing through the tracklist again so I can figure out my favorite.â With a grin, she pressed her lips to Morganâs quickly, mumbling rough against them. âItâs better, coming from you. Oh and--â Deirdre drew back. âI have some complaints about story choices here. You said this was based on something? Why did he turn around? Thatâs just--â She pouted. âIt was mean. You didnât tell me it would be a sad story.â Admittedly, not Deirdreâs favorite kind of story--tragedies left her heart with a strange, unnamed, kind of heaviness. A feeling that she hadnât yet picked apart and dissected meaning from, a feeling she had been long since afraid to try with. âI did like it.â
Morgan sighed with delight as Deirdre joined her on the bed and tangled them up like normal. The fluffy tulle under her skirt bunched up around her thighs and the simple boning around her bodice made it hard to curl up as snug as she really wanted, but Morgan was too happy to mind any of it past fiddling with her zipper and tugging it down a few centimeters. She cradled Deirdreâs face and kissed it several times over as her banshee gave her answer, lingering and nipping here and there as it pleased her.
âIt was also loud with the cars going by us too,â Morgan protested, though she couldnât keep a straight face. âBecause you donât what, babe? Itâs okay, you know, right? I cried too, and the lady in front of us was crying much harder than either of us. The storyâs supposed to make you feel something. Thatâs the magic in it. You donât have to feel weird about any of that.â There was more to say, but Morgan leaned in and drew out another kiss, long and enthusiastic and tender when she remembered the exact look that had shown in her loveâs face in the dark theater.
âI am sorry the ending hurt you by surprise,â she said, threading more kisses around Deirdreâs jaw. âItâs a very old human story, actually, from Greek antiquity. I never liked it before, because it doesnât explain why he did it, so I always thoughtâyeesh, dude, you had one job! How much did you really love her anyway? But the way this version tells itâŠâ Morgan sighed and settled her face in the crook of her loveâs neck. âHe held onto so much hope for so long, even when the disappointment started to break him. And then having to keep going without her, when theyâd barely even touched since theyâd found each other, having to believe she wouldnât leave again, that he was really worth all this troubleâ I think anyone would at least think about turning to be sure. And it was just a second, you know? Just a quick, desperate mistake. And I think itâs so sad because their love was so much bigger than that one mistake, itâs not fair for them to lose it. But the universe is brutal sometimes, and thatâs why hope is so hard and special in the first placeâŠâ Morganâs hand slid down to Deirdreâs chest and started tracing shapes over her heart, occasionally skirting along the hem of her own bodice where it kissed the swell of her breasts. âI am glad you liked it,â she murmured. âEven if I would rather hear your favorite song from you.â
Though Deirdre hummed under each touchâleaning closer to Morgan, urging moreâher hands remained stiff and chaste around her, despite the twitch that radiated from her fingers. The bright grin that claimed her mouth was evidence enough that she wanted this, and wanted more, but she couldnât have it. Her body stiffened as her voice remained light. âBut this is different from crying over those cartoons in ourââ Deirdre swallowed. âThe house; in private. This is different.â As Morgan kissed her, her twitching fingers curled into a claw at Morganâs back, bunching tight fabric and digging into skin under her harsh grip. As much as she wanted to move, she did not. As Morgan continued to explain Orpheusâs plight, Deirdre thought about her own restraint. If that were her, she wouldnât have turned around at all. She wasnât even doing it now, as much as she twitched and stiffened and clawed for itâshe was being good, dutiful, devoted. And yet, for all her carefulness, sheâd let curiosity slip between her carefully crafted walls. âIs that how you felt?â She blinked, âis thisâŠâturning aroundâ?â She shook her head, wincing at the questionâcoated in metaphor as it was, even if Morgan could pick apart what she meant, it wasnât the point. She already knew their love was bigger than their mistakes, but she suddenly understood the nature of doubt in a chilling way. She knew the truth, and yetâŠ.well, perhaps she shouldnât have been so sure of her powers of self-control. Maybe she wasnât any better than Orpheus after all.
Deirdre turned her gaze to the window, mumbling her requests for Morgan to forget sheâd said anything. âI like âAll Iâve Ever Knownâ best, for now.â It was night, not that it was any easier to tell over the lights of New York. It was her body that told her first, in the yawn that erupted from her, before her eyes could even settle on the inky sky. âItâs getting late,â she commented. Her arms slackened. It was time for her to leave, probably. As it usually went, at least. And if she really wanted to try to be better than a fictional Greek myth, she ought to listen to the rules laid about before her. Morgan never shared a bed with her anymore, and she slept holding a pillow tight to her chest in the lonely privacy of her office. When she woke, the sight of an empty wall greeted her. If she was lucky, it would be one of the three cats instead. If she was really, really lucky, it was two of them. She could only hope the hotel pillows were close enough to the Morgan-replacement one she normally held; if she couldâve stuffed it into her suitcase, she wouldâve. âIâll take my things into the other room.â
âNo, stay.â The words burst out of Morgan before she could think better of them, even just to have a better follow up argument besides, âPlease.â She winced, and would have flushed if she had any blood flow in her face. She moved her arms around her loveâs neck and pleaded with her eyes. A moment ago, Deirdre had been giving her so many green lights and their touch and their bodies all struck the right chord, harmonizing with such rich, perfect clarity, Morgan didnât want the feeling to fade out.
âFirst of all, it is our house. Or it kind of is, or I want it to be. And second, I donât want to forget what you said. It matters to me.â She caressed her face tenderly, hoping to convey her earnestness, her confidence. âYou did...it did feel like you left me and ran away. All the note said was you werenât dead, I didnât know if that meant wait for me or donât follow me, and by the end of that week, I was starting to wonder ifâŠâ Morgan shrugged, trying to keep the leftover hurt far away from her in a box at the bottom of her heart. â...if you still wanted me at all. I didnât know how to believe you were still with me and so I turned around then, yeah. And in those days before Yule, I did kind of want to know how worth it you thought I was. Some of the ways I did that werenât fair or kind to you. I was justâŠâ She shrugged. âClinging to some leftover revenge bullshit, maybe. It seemed so important that you really, really understand how it felt. None of the words I had felt good enough. And maybe if youâd take it, it would mean you would stay, or if you understood, you wouldnât do it again. But I buried all that in Strawford, babe. I donât need or want that. I didnât excise the hurt completely, but I took enough out of me that I can be close to you without getting a complex about it. Enough that I can be-- stars, so incredibly happy with you. And Iâve missed that feeling so much, I donât want to let it go right now. Havenât you felt...lighter today? Freer? I know itâs just for a little bit, but everythingâs been so hard, I donât see the point in denying ourselves a few good nights together. I literally canât think of anything I want more immediately than to stay here with you all night. And this isnât even the first night Iâve felt that way, it just feels so much more silly not to follow through with the feeling when weâre away from everything else in a beautiful city plastered over a hundred movies.â
Morgan kissed Deirdre then, firm with determination. âFor me, the place weâre at right now is us walking together. Itâs not the way we came and I donât know whatâs next, Iâm just believing as hard as I can that weâre gonna make it after coming this far. I looked, and you were there, and weâre lucky enough that we can keep walking after. Thatâs what I feel like this is, babe.â Her fingers idled around Deirdreâs shoulders, the ends of her hair, the gentle curve of her neck. She knew this was all dependent on what her girlfriend thought, that though they were walking, maybe they werenât in exactly the same place yet. Her smile faltered with worry, but she held tight to her nerve and kept herself steady, though her voice was soft. âWhat is this for you? What do you think about...what Iâm suggesting, for how we spend the nights this trip? Tell me what you think, huhâŠ?â
Deirdreâs face softened instantaneously, her hands moved around Morgan to hold her, comfort her. It was a reaction of the body more than it was the mind, and her body wanted to yield to Morgan. To say that she would stay, that she could, that she wanted to and that sheâd work out every bead of pain in Morganâs body until her fingers bled. But the usual enthusiastic yes, yes, was replaced with lips pulled thin, brows furrowed. Her mind was a little more cautious, as it always had been. She shook her head; she hadnât felt exactly freer or lighter. Her dutifulness was a devious prison, and it caged the rest of her well. Morgan wanted space, and Deirdre had worked it into her mind that she would provide. Every smile died miserably with guilt. And every touch withered with worry. It seemed so important to Morgan that they didnât sleep together, Deirdre respected the choice as well as she could respect anything she didnât want. She had thought it was so strange to deny it to themselves days ago. Weeks ago. But it was important to Morgan. And now it...wasnât? Deirdre shook her head again as they parted. âWhat do you want me to do, Morgan?â Her shoulders sagged, her face contorted with confusion and hurt. The dark circles around her eyes must have been more clear then, even under the makeup, or at least she felt like they were. The nights of restless sleep without Morgan took their toll, and chilling fatigue coiled around her bones again as the mind remembered what the body could never forget. âI love laying with you; before I met you sleep was just a means to an end for me and now it...it feels like rest. Good rest. But you said you wanted your space, and I am trying my best to respect that. You set the rules Morgan, but you canât justââ Deirdre swallowed, turning her gaze away.
This was stupid. Any sane person would have just given in and cuddled up; her insides begged her to. She was so tired and so desperate for Morgan that sheâd take just about any scrap offered. But her stomach lurched and her head throbbed; it wasnât right. âDonât make me into some thing you use for comfort and then leave again. Donât just, ask for me to stay and then make me sleep alone again. I canâtââ She closed her eyes, finding her breathing (In. Hold. Out) without Morganâs usual prompting.
When Deirdre turned back, she was calmer, though no less pained. âYou want space. That isnât space. And I donât want your progress to be hindered by these moments of permissibility. But more than that, I need rules. I canât do this without rules. I need something to follow and tell me Iâm doing this right. I need something, my love.â She sighed, shoulders slumped again, victim to Morganâs touch. She hated herself so completely sometimes; how terrible and idiotic it was that her mind couldnât just accept this. She wanted it more than anything else. âIt doesnât feel like weâre walking together, Morgan. Iâve told you that already. Iâm just trying to do whatâs right, but I canât even tell what that is.â How could it possibly be walking together when she didnât want space at all? Was it âwalking togetherâ when they werenât yet a couple? Or was that just Morgan, waiting? Wasnât this just her, waiting?
âIâm sorry,â Morgan murmured. âI just...it just felt so good today, and Iâve felt lighter and so much better since last week and I just thought--â She squeezed Deirdre close, pressing her into a comforting grip. âYouâre not a thing, thatâs not what I meant. Iâm so sorry youâve felt like I donât value you or that Iâm doing this casually or anything else like--â Morgan grimaced and told the rest of her apologies with kisses through Deirdreâs hair. âIâm just sorry,â she whispered after a while.
She shifted back, just enough to see Deirdreâs as she guided it up to meet her own. âIâve never been great with rules. Itâs not intuitive for me. Iâm not used to having that kind of structure in the first place, or anything staying steady enough for too many rules to work, and anytime I feel good, itâs usually so rare I donât really think to question it or hold back anymore, especially with you. So I-I donât mean to mess up and confuse you and hurt you like this. Thatâs not what I want. I want you so very much, my love, but I want your peace of mind and your comfort too.â
Morgan pressed a tender kiss to Deirdreâs forehead, whispering another apology against her skin before sitting back again. âI love you. Always, I love you, Deirdre. And I want to do better. I want to give you what you need. But I alsoâŠâ She winced, her face twisting with worry. âI just donât want to get so set in one set of rules that we donât ever come back together all the way. I donât want to stay so apart from you. Whatever we come up with, I want it to be something we can change later, somehow, in a way that doesnât hurt. Maybe at a regular interval, once a week, maybe? Or we can ask? Either way, Iâd like to write some new ones for us. Starting with working out a different sleeping arrangement system, if, you knowâŠif thatâs okay?â She reached slowly behind her for the hotel stationary pad, taut as a spring with hope. Wherever they really were in this metaphor, she knew she wanted to be moving forward.
Deirdre slumped, sinking further into the plush mattress. A sense of defeat rolled over her, washing her body with its cold tide. You couldnât just let Morgan be happy? Deirdreâs grip on the sheets tightened. âNo, I-Iâm sorry this isâŠâ Stupid, sheâd wanted to say. They were happy, and fine, and what did it matter to her if she just let them cuddle for a few days? Why did it matter? Her mind had projected itself far enough into the future that she could feel the sting of lonely nights fresh again, after the bliss of restful sleep. Her body, once enthusiastic about giving in, recoiled in fear. She couldnât understand what created such a challenge for her, and she didnât possess the words to explain it. âIâm tired,â she said, unable to think of anything else. Fatigue drowned her; sad eyes morphed to tired-red, and her face sank. âI like rules.â Which was strange for a fae to say, but her life had been dominated by them, and under their command, she knew what was right and what was wrong.
She hadnât known what was right and what was wrong for some time now. Rules would be nice, thank you, she opened her mouth and pictured the words coming out. No, actually, just forget it, Iâm too tired to care now, and even that wouldnât leave in anything more than a whimper. I just want us to be better; I hate sleeping apart from you, I hate not knowing whatâs wrong, the truth of it made Deirdreâs eyes water. She hated the âspaceâ. She hated the stupid studio, which only served to churn her insides with melancholy every time she looked out their back window. She hated that she couldnât understand what to do--the books had told her to ânot take it personallyâ but how exactly was she supposed to not take her girlfriend wanted an entire living space outside of their home in any other way but personal? She hated the self-help books, and their confusing language and messages. And she hated herself, for being so angry. Morgan wanted space, and though Deirdre struggled to rationalize the why, she wanted to give that to her. And she was trying, except her trying seemed to be flawed. So she had to try a different way, but that was flawed too. And now she was making her girlfriend make a list, even though she said she didnât like rules, and was afraid of what they might do. The word âcompromiseâ came to mind, and then her mother telling her that compromise was something idiots did when they were either too cowardly to rend open and offer themselves out or too weak to get their way. What was it, but Morgan having to suffer more on Deirdreâs behalf?
The banshee shifted. When she spoke finally, her voice was barely above a whisper. âYou donât have to. You didnât appreciate it much when I asked you for rules the first time around. And I donât want to put you through that again. Just...tell me what Iâm supposed to do. If you want me to stay, I can stay.â
Morgan let Deirdre fall away, feeling her body tense. âHeyâŠâ she cooed. She hesitated to scoop Deirdre up, knowing that it was just as likely that she was punishing herself as it was that she didnât want to be touched. In the end, she split the difference by finger-combing her hair, taking out each of the little pins she ran into and setting them neatly aside. âDonât be sorry, my love. Iâm proud of you, for telling me what you need. And yeah, itâs weird and hard, not having our instincts aligned when it comes to us, but I think we can compromise. No one has to hurt so much or feel completely out of her depth. I think thatâs how weâre gonna get through this.â She slid down beside her banshee and kissed her hair. âYouâre right, I had a really hard time with the rules the first time we made them, but I was also in a really low place, and I was really lost and hadnât figured out much of anything about what to do with myself. But I think they werenât such a terrible idea after all, especially then. And I'm in a different, better spot now. And I want to do this. Iâm offering. And as long as we can revisit these and change them so we can keep moving closer together, Iâll make the rules as detailed as you need them to be.â
But Deirdreâs pain was more than that. The ache in her went deeper than a worry that Morgan didnât really want to go along with her idea. Morgan didnât think that would be enough to make her love cry on its own. Slowly, she reached over and wiped a tear from the corner of her eye. âIf youâre tired, we can just come up with a few rules for tonight and do the rest in the morning. But I think sooner is better than later, because...it just seems like we both want to be closer, more intimate, than we have been, and if we both want that, it seems awful to keep ourselves from it. We just have to make sure weâre doing it in a way that doesnât hurt so much, you know?â She wiped another one of Deirdreâs tears. â...Babe,â she said, lowering her voice, just above a whisper. âCan you tell me what it is thatâs bothering you so much right now? What it is thatâs so sad or stressful⊠I need you to talk to me, babe. Right now, I need that very much. It doesnât even have to make much of any sense. I just donât want to do the thing where you hurt in silence and Iâm on the outside trying to figure out what to do on my own.â  She let her fingers slide down Deirdreâs cheek, tracing the gentle lines of it. âIâm not going anywhere unless you want me to, babe. Iâm here, and I think we can figure out how to get to âokay.â We just have to do it together.â
Deirdreâs mind coursed with the same words pulsing in numbing repetition: dumb, stupid, idiotic, dumb, stupid-- She hissed as Morganâs fingers pushed through her hair, not from the contact, which was gentle by all accounts, but from the uncanny ability they possessed to make Deirdre feel raw. It was medically impossible, but she thought Morgan could feel her thoughts through her scalp, that she could pick each one out word by word. Donât look, donât look. Deirdre closed her eyes. Was she more embarrassed that her mind had dissolved to such negative prattle or that she knew Morgan wouldnât like it anymore than Deirdre would enjoy Morgan beating herself up? But her habit of self-flagellation was one Morgan knew well, and had never responded with cruelty to before. Morgan was kind, and Morgan was gentle, and Morgan loved her. Yet for all she understood, all she could think about was how terrible she must be, wasting Morganâs time and energy like this. Morgan shouldâve been taking care of herself, and instead, here she was. Dumb, stupid, idiotic, dumb, stupid⊠âNo,â she croaked, âno, you really donât have to do that. I know itâs hard for--you need space. You wanted to...think about yourself. Figure that out. And you said you donât like rules and I...can manage. I can do that for you.â Her heart clenched, her face twisted with pain. Her body was so tired; she had nothing left to give of herself. Please stop, please stop. But she wouldnât, she couldnât. âTogetherâŠâ she rolled the word around against her tongue. To-geth-er; foregin, by an unnameable metric, but an idea she could latch her words to. The good words. âNot together.â Well, the mediocre words. âNot--you need--you said--you--â She swallowed. âThe books, I donât understand them. And the studio it--â She closed her eyes again. Stop, stop, stop. âRoots grow big, and long, and they take from the soil. And the other plants dry, but thatâs okay, because you need it now. You need it.â Deirdre opened her eyes, shaking her head. âThatâs the only thing I understand about this. I think the books are trying to say that the other plants shouldnât dry for each other, but does that mean you have to be transplanted into a new bed so you can grow, and what does that mean for--â Deirdre hissed. âThis garden metaphor is dumb. I just mean, I donât even understand what was wrong in the first place. And maybe itâs stupid of me but I thought we were fine, but we werenât, and now what? And I know itâs idiotic, but I donât get it.â
Morgan listened, burning with aches as she saw Deirdre nearly writhing with pain. It was like looking into a cruel, double sided mirror. Here was her pain during all those grief days, her desperation, now with Deirdreâs face. Here was every reason to go into that therapistâs office as soon as they could get in. They couldnât stay trapped in these patterns, they couldnât sink into this much hurt for each other so easily, not if they wanted to last for centuries. Morgan adjusted herself so one of her arms could drape around Deirdre and take her hand while the other twisted up on the pillow and worked tenderly at the tension in her loveâs scalp.
âItâs not idiotic or stupid or dumb, Deirdre. None of those things. And I got what you were saying with the garden metaphor, even if it has its limits.â Close as she was to Deirdre now, her lips brushed against her ear and neck as she spoke, and it was nothing at all to press a kiss to the nape and remember its tender, sweaty feel. âYou know, for a while, I couldnât put words to it either, but I was looking over my notebooks and this letter draft I had. I think it was the last one I wrote when I was still alive. I said something like, before you I had this little world inside me...â She let go of Deirdreâs hand to make a little sphere with her own. âAnd it wasnât perfect, but it was whole and it was good. And then I found you, and you loved me, and we started making a life together, and suddenly there was more.â She took her sphere hand and stuck it on Deirdreâs trying to mould it into some expanded, hybrid shape. âAnd I guess once you start looking at the whole thing as space, it sort of becomes like a building. I had, letâs say, three walls holding me up. And then you came and then I had four walls. I was even bigger and stronger and had so much more possibilities. But then I died. And when I lost my senses, my magic, my lifeâŠ.those were my walls and they all collapsed.â She crumpled and flattened her hand to illustrate her point. âAnd if it wasnât for you reminding me that you, my newest support, were still standing, I wouldâve just stayed collapsed. But you did. And I finally had one whole thing to balance and fill myself with. I could finally get off the ground, and maybe our therapist will have some thoughts about that, but I canât see that as anything but a good thing, as you saving me. The problem is, after thatâŠâ Morgan sighed, wincing. She still didnât know when she couldâve done anything different, what opportunity she could have realistically taken to build herself better and spared them this. Maybe if she had just magically known what she knew now, if her mind hadnât been so scrambled by death that the thoughts wouldnât seem so hard to get to...but that wasnât how it had been.
âI wish I could figure out another way for it to have gone, besides me just listening to you and staying alive, but I canât. We did the only things we could think of, so it canât be anyoneâs fault, but...the problem is after that, there was still a whole me. A whole world, a whole building, and only one support to carry me. And before, when I had three, you could come and go and we could separate for those awful times, and it would hurt, but I was still upright. But with only one support for my whole self...every time you left, or seemed to leave, every time I was afraid you just might, or afraid youâd even be angry with me, I would collapse again.â She put her hand through the motions, growing to only a fraction of the old size and collapsing, like a heart losing the will to beat. âI mean, remember that first time you needed to go away for the night and I wrecked the house and you found me on the floor? Thereâs just so much of me, I canât be held up with only one piece, no matter what it is. Itâs just absurd to build anything that way, much less me, right? Thereâs not enough to hold up everything that was, much less everything and more.â She sniffled, blinking back a tear. âAnd it took me having to go without you, to fear the absolute worst for you for so many awful days, to realize that. But, when I did, I felt like the only way I could figure out what else to build myself up with is to keep going without, with intention. And I found another wall to hold me up in Strawford, when I gave my hurt to the earth and my heart to the universe. And Iâve found another in my arts and crafts work. Housing those new supports in the studio right now help remind me that these are separate and sturdy and mine. Iâve been a lot less insecure about wanting you now that I have that space, if you havenât noticed.â She pressed another kiss to Deirdreâs neck. âI can just picture that place and know those supports are there. And Iâll be working again soon, and Leah said I could help with the library, and Remmy gave me the keys to the supernatural sanctuary, and I just know, because I know I belong here and the universe is holding me in my own place and my body is more than just a walking death--I know I have all the supports I need even if they arenât firmly set into the ground yet. And so I feel confident in letting myself be so much closer to you now than I did before. Iâm not so fragile anymore. You are my only and dearest love, and you are still one of my supports. You just help me have more, and not just the bare minimum. It should be like that, shouldnât it? Us making the world wider and brighter than beforeâŠ?â
There was a measure of anger to feel how easily her fears buckled once reassured by Morgan. It was childish, Deirdre thought, that her feelings could be so sensitive. Her sensitivity was something she had fought to hide away, bury deep and forget about. And yetâ The stiffness in Deirdreâs body caved, and she reached for her girlfriend, curling fingers around the fabric of her dress. Her gaze followed down to the demonstration unfolding in her hand. She could see the little house Morgan was talking about, that happy, stable life. Then she could see it crumble, and become a fraction of what it once was. Morgan built her supports again, she was still building them. Some of this rang with familiarity; she knew this. But the ease of the metaphor gave Deirdre a chance to reflect on something she never had: her own life, and its supports. She had her house too, or she did. And then she had Morgan, and her house wasnât so much a house as it turned out to be a cave. But sheâd only managed just the one support, afraid of anything elseâconfused, lost. She missed the routine of her cave, but that had crumbled now. Deirdre drew her hand back with a frown, making and un-making a fist. It made sense, and with the sense, a terrible hollowness. There was something wrong with her and no amount of fixation on fixing Morgan and their relationship would suddenly give her any of that purpose she wanted.
Morgan had explained this in some words before, but Deirdre hadnât made much sense of it then. Hearing it again, the picture was more clear. Deirdre sighed. âI suppose.â She unfurled her hand and stared at the wrinkles in her palm. She drew her other hand back from where it had fastened on to the front of Morganâs dress, trying to draw her own house connecting the wrinkles. Morgan had done fine on her journey to stability, but Deirdre hadnât moved an inch; she didnât want to move. Her mother often admonished the predictability of humans, the creatures of comfort that they were, but Deirdre felt herself no different. She missed the cave. âI donât think my world is very wide or bright, Morgan.â She spoke mostly to her palm, which had yet to yield a usable house. âBut I think I get what you mean now.â Giving up her quest, she bundled her hands together and looked up. âThank you. I think I understand it now. Truly. Properly.â
âNo, I guess itâs not,â Morgan admitted with a sorrowful whisper. She had urged Deirdre, even when things were good, to find more than just her to sustain herself on. But her love, in all her fear and bewilderment, hadnât found the courage yet. Then again, she was afraid of picking out the color of the furniture, so things had to come in small steps. âBut I have every belief that it will be. And youâre welcome. Any time, my love.â She bundled Deirdre into her arms and threaded kisses along her forehead. âCan you tell me what you need right now, or what you want? I want to stay close with you tonight and take a couple hours in the other room sometime tomorrow morning to meditate alone. But I donât want you to hurt, or be afraid. So just tell me, okay? Weâll find a way to make the pieces fit.â
âBut it wasnât supposed to be. Itâs not supposed toââ Deirdre slammed her mouth shut, hissing down a sob. This was a rhetoric that she had touted since the day she met Morgan, and she knew Morgan hadnât grown any fonder for it. âI just want to sleep.â She sighed, humming her way into a more comfortable position in Morganâs arms. She bundled her face into the crook of her neck, tangling her long legs into Morganâs. The pieces of their bodies already fit, the rest theyâd just have to figure out. âCan I sleep here? Can you hold me? Can I just...rest?â
Morgan crooned contentedly as Deirdre wriggled in and their bodies made a home with each other. âOh, is that all, just sleep?â She teased softly, her voice lilting with comforting warmth. âNo back rub? No helping out of your dress? No ambient lullabies or kisses?â She caressed Deirdre as she spoke, giving her a squeeze that she hoped expressed that she had no objections if this was how they would lay for the night, petticoats and stockings and all. It had been so very long since theyâd been like this, their stillness harmonizing just right, together and apart, whole and connected. âYes, my love. I will hold you right here, happily, and you can rest.â
âIâd have to move to get out of this dress.â Deirdre laughed against Morganâs skin. Moving sounded like just about the worst thing she could think of. A truly dreadful thing to ask for. âJust sleep.â She smiled, eased in the arms of her love. It felt a little more like walking together then, and less like blind stumbling. Maybe sheâd apologize in the morning for being so dense about it, but that was a morning problem. All she wanted now was the peace of Morganâs embrace; sheâd missed it more every second she had to do without it, and she relinquished herself to the feeling. With anguish alleviated from her mind, if not in permanence then just long enough to humor the night, she was sure this trip would be good to them.Â
For the first time in weeks, a gentle sleep greeted her. And beyond it, the flicker of hope, illuminated under New York City lights: tomorrow, a day as gentle as the night, spent in museums and cemeteries andâ with little coaxingâ a bakery. Theyâd watch the ball drop through their hotel window. Theyâd hold each other, kiss and dance and laugh as Deirdre expressed her disappointment in the lack of big apples. Then sheâd sleep again, restful as the day before. And hope would grow, and love would remind her that they carved their own good into the world; walking together sounded like just about the best thing sheâd ever heard. And it made everything possible.
Even a brand new year, better than the last.
