Steve was running late again. You try not to chew your nails off in frustration but he’s definitely testing you. This is the third time in the last two weeks that he’s late to meet you. When he hasn’t been late he’s cancelled all together. Always with a half-ass apology of ‘Bucky needs me’. As if.
You’ve been friends with Steve since your freshman year creative writing class when the only open seat was next to him. Ever since that first day you two had been close. But not as close as him and Bucky. Childhood friends attending university together, thicker than thieves.
You always felt like Bucky was maybe a little jealous of the friendship you and Steve have. Maybe you’re a little jealous too but you’re almost positive Bucky is more jealous of you than you are of him but that’s beside the point. On top of his jealousy Bucky was just annoying. He had a girlfriend but he was always flirting with every girl he met, yourself included. Not to mention he was cocky as all hell.
Steve vouches for his character, swears that it’s all an act and he’s actually very sensitive underneath but you don’t buy it for a second. If you were his girlfriend you’d have dumped him a long time ago.
You don’t have time to dwell on your annoyance too much because Steve is rushing through the doors of the coffee shop. He looks around for you and when he finally finds you the look on his face is relieved. As he gets closer it’s clear that he’d been running to get to you in time. He’s sweaty and a little out of breath and if you weren’t so annoyed with him you’d have found it endearing that he ran here.
“There you are,” he huffs out, “I’m so sorry, I was with Bucky and I lost track of time.”
You purse your lips and hand him a napkin which he takes with a gracious nod before wiping the sweat from his brow. You hand him the iced coffee you’d ordered for him too. The ice is slightly melted from sitting there but he looks so refreshed to be drinking it.
“Figures” is all you say with a huff. If he hadn’t been doing it so often you would’ve been a little kinder about it but you were just irked.
“Seriously, I’m sorry. Nat just dumped him, he's been having a hard time” Steve explained.
“Is it because he flirts with anything that moves?” You scoff.
Steve scoffs in return “He does not! He’s just… outgoing. But no, they had their own problems.” You raise one eyebrow at him. “Okay the flirting had something to do with it but there’s a lot going on there.”
“Whatever, let’s just study for this exam while we can”.
____
You and Steve spent the next two hours cramming for your midterm together. Things were going well and you’d nearly forgotten that you were mad at Steve in the first place. Nearly.
You were so deep into your notecards that you didn’t hear the door open behind you. A voice that could grate on only your nerves. A voice that if it didn’t belong to such a bastard, might even be kinda sexy. The voice breaks your focus completely when it calls out.
“Hey, Steve, are you done already or what? Oh hey, what’s up, beautiful?”
You set your notecards down on the table maybe a little harder than you should. You shoot Steve a glare because you thought it would just be the two of you. Really? You cut in before Steve can answer his friend.
“No, Bucky, he’s not. Can we help you?”
He smirks, giving you his full attention. He knows he has you now, knows you took the bait and he’s goaded you to the point of backtalk. He pulls up a chair to the table and wedges himself tightly between you and Steve. The sound of the chair legs scraping the floor as he scoots closer to you rings in your ears and makes you cringe. You look at Steve again only to find him avoiding your gaze.
“Well, sweetheart, me and Stevie boy here have plans later. Gonna do some gaming and order a pizza, really embracing the bachelor lifestyle.” He raised his eyebrows at this and you just rolled your eyes.
“Yeah, I heard Nat dumped your ass, actually, is that true?” You asked with a fake sweetness.
“Why, you interested?” He rebuffed.
You bristled at his quick response and muttered your annoyance under your breath. You chose not to respond. Instead you decided to address Steve.
“Steve, I didn’t realize that you had plans”
“Oh… yeah, loose plans…” He answered distractedly while pretending to be reading a text on his phone.
You decide to call it a day. You were getting seriously fed up with Steve’s passive behavior in all of this. Thankfully you didn’t have much to pack up, so once you slung your backpack over your shoulder you looked up at the pair to bid them goodnight.
“Well, Steve, this was… enlightening. Bucky, eat it. Goodnight fellas, have fun with your ‘bachelor lifestyle’” You said with air quotes. Turning on your heel you left before either could respond.
____
You had left the coffee shop that evening pretty upset with Steve. Of course it’s fine for him to have other friends but lately it was like he only cared about Bucky and all of your plans took a backseat to theirs. You decided you weren’t going to be the one to text Steve first, since he was being a bad friend. He could be the one to initiate plans.
He did just that when he caught you in the hallway after your midterm a week later. He jogged up to you once again and tugged on your sleeve to get you to stop.
“Hey, how do you think you did? Bet those notecards paid off, right?” He half-joked. He looked sheepish. Nervous almost. You figured it was because of what happened last time you met.
“Yeah, Jesus Christ! I’ve never been so grateful for little pieces of paper.” You scoffed. You decided to keep it light between you. You were still upset with him but his tone leads you to believe he was gonna apologize.
“Right?” He laughs nervously, “So listen, I know I’ve been kind of a jerk lately… Maybe we could get something to eat at Nick’s?”
Nick’s was the local greasy spoon on campus and they had the best breakfast food you’d ever had. You eyed him suspiciously but accepted.
“Alright, but you’re buying. And there better not be any visitors!” You add as you bound down the hall ahead of him. He knows you mean Bucky and he’s not worried because Bucky won’t be showing up today. He’s more nervous about what he has to ask you.
____
You’re sipping on pop as you play with your straw wrapper. You look up at Steve and notice he’s fidgeting a lot more than usual.
“What’s up? Why are you so twitchy?” You question him.
“Me? I’m not twitchy! I was just thinking that’s all” He quickly defends himself.
“Well that was the last midterm of the semester for both of us, I think it’s safe to say you can relax.”
“Yeah, guess you’re right.” Steve concedes quietly.
You and Steve eat in near silence, neither of you mind though because it’s comfortable. You worked on your hashbrowns when you looked up and noticed that Steve had barely touched his food. He was still fidgety, he looked nervous.
“Hey, you’ve hardly eaten anything, what’s the matter?”
He looks a little embarrassed, like he’s been caught. Or like he’s about to come clean about something.
“Look, I wanted to say sorry I know I haven’t been the best friend lately with everything going on with Bucky. He really is having a hard time since the breakup y’know… he’s lonely”
“Right” You laughed, “I’m sure he’s soo lonely.” You rolled your eyes and picked up your fork.
“No really, he just needed a friend to be there. I think he does need to get back out there though.”
“With how smooth he thinks he is, I'm sure he’ll have a date by the end of the night. I wouldn’t worry about it, Stevie.” You responded.
“I’m serious! As much of a player as he comes off he needs to be with someone he already knows. He’s actually really sensitive.” You interrupted with another laugh. There were many choice words you’d use to describe Bucky Barnes but ‘sensitive’ is not one of them.
“But anyway, I was...kinda hoping you’d do me a favor…” Steve trails off.
Based on the conversation you just had you’re cautious. You eye him warily but motion for him to continue.
“Well, like I said Buck’s having a hard time and he needs to get back out there but he doesn’t feel comfortable hooking up with a stranger. I was thinking maybe.. You guys should hang out?”
Steve refused to look at you as he finished the question. The look on your face was a look of confusion and shock.
“Fuck me gently with a chainsaw. Do I look like Mother Theresa?” you asked in disbelief. “I mean seriously, I’m nice but not that nice.”
“Look-”
“No!” You cut him off, “You know I can’t stand that prick. Also why would I want to put myself on the long list of women he’s probably tried to fuck? I don’t buy this whole ‘sensitive’ thing for a minute.”
“I’m serious, Nat kinda crushed his heart when she left. He acts cocky but it’s a front. I just think he needs to see someone to get it out of his system. You’ve got more in common than you think. Just hang out with him once. Don’t think of it like a date, just a really really big favor. Please?” Steve begged.
You pinched the bridge of your nose and sighed. “You. Owe. Me. So. Much”
“Really?” He asked hopefully.
“Really. But I’m not gonna bang him. Hard no on that” you said.
“Yeah, yeah of course! No problem! I’ll give Bucky your number!” He reached across the table and grabbed your hand. His hands were kidna clammy but you let him.
“Seriously, thank you. I know you think he’s some jerk but I promise he’s a good guy.” Steve adds, “A-and don’t think of it as like a date, even, y'know? I think honestly he could just use another friend. Think of how good it could be if we could all hang together some time?”
You shook your head and chuckled at his optimism while you stabbed another bite of your meal.
____
‘What’s up, sweetface?’ Gross.
‘Okay, sorry. Hi, how are you?’ Better.
‘I’m alright, you?’
‘Good. Steve tells me you’re a huge trivia nerd. Wanna go to Sally’s tn?’
‘It’s a date’ Shit. Didn’t mean to say that. Fuck. Quick- say something that will deflect before he responds!
‘And since it’s a date you’re paying’ That’ll have to do.
‘Ugh fine. Here’s hoping you’re a cheap date at least. I’ll meet you there at 9’
____
What do you wear for a date with someone that you despise? It’s just bar trivia so it’s nothing special but somehow the jeans and flannel you’ve been wearing all day don’t feel like they make the cut. You rip your closet apart trying to find something before you settle on black skinny jeans and your favorite sweater with some boots. Casual but not too casual.
You spend the whole walk there dreading the night ahead of you. Knowing that you wouldn’t even have Steve as a buffer between you made the whole evening seem daunting. At least you had trivia to distract you. You decide to give Bucky the benefit of the doubt tonight for Steve’s sake. You try to remember Steve’s insistence that Bucky’s a good guy and you have a lot in common. We’ll see about that.
When you arrive at the bar you find Bucky already waiting for you at a high-top table with two PBRs and a shot of brown liquid. Please don’t let that be whiskey. He sees you coming and smiles that damn-his-good-looks smile at you while patting the open chair next to him. The closer you get you even see that he got the whiteboard already for trivia.
“Please tell me that’s not Jameson or Fireball” you greet him.
He laughs a little and shakes his head. “Better - it’s Jack. Sorry, doll, but I already opened the tab. This is what we’re drinking” He nudges one of the shots closer to you and motions for you to pick it up. “Come on, we gotta start the night off right, bottoms up!”
Before you can gag at the thought of drinking whiskey you grab the glass and face him. You both knock your shots on the table before clinking them together and swallowing them in one go. You grimace at the taste and feel the warmth flow all the way down your throat. You quickly take a sip of your beer to rid yourself of the taste.
“Aww, you’re cute when you’re grossed out.” Bucky coos at you.
You’re embarrassed and annoyed but it goes away quickly.
“Shut up, Barnes”
You give him a light shove and he pretends like he’s about to fall off his stool, making you laugh. For someone that’s only ever annoyed you he’s doing a pretty bang-up job of being likeable when it’s just the two of you.
“You ready for me to carry you through some trivia?” You joked.
“Hey, now! I know...stuff” he concluded.
“Mmhmmm, I’m sure you do. Don’t worry, I’ll answer the questions and you just sit there and look pretty” you reach over to pat his face lightly with a wink.
Bucky grumbles before taking another sip of his beer.
You settle in for a long night when the host announces the first round is starting.
____
You managed to steal the first round without breaking a sweat, second round was a little rocky until it came down to you and one other couple. You knew the third round would be tricky but the way Bucky was cheering you on you were determined. To no one’s surprise Bucky had been completely useless so far but to his credit he was trying. At least he was a supportive teammate.
Things were going well until the third round was announced: Old School Videogames. You didn’t know shit about old school videogames. Or regular videogames. The extent of your video game knowledge started and ended with Mario Kart.
When the third round was announced though Bucky hit the table in excitement and cheered.
“Woo! Fuck yeah!” He pats you on the shoulder, “I got this, don’t worry. I so fuckin’ got this!”
He was a few drinks deep but he was so confident and he was your only hope so you went with it. He looked like a little kid the way he was practically giddy.
“You had better! There’s some serious prize money riding on this round.” You said in warning.
“No, no. You don’t understand that I’ve GOT this. Your turn to look pretty, not that it’s gonna be all that hard for you, sweetface” Bucky grinned at you over his beer as he took another sip.
Your cheeks felt heated and you tried your best to hide it by taking another drink yourself. Bucky’s flirting has never worked until now. Must be the alcohol.
“Shut up, Barnes” you mumble.
“Y’keep saying that but what I really think you mean is ‘I love you, Bucky you’re so strong and handsome~’” He imitated in a high pitched feminine voice.
You shoved him for real and before you could say anything else the third round was starting.
____
Bucky wasn’t kidding when he said he had this. He had won the round in a clean sweep and you’d be lying if you said you weren’t impressed. Who knew this man harbored so much videogame trivia? When the host handed you the prize money he just waggled his eyebrows as if to say See?
“I gotta hand it to you, Barnes, I had no idea you had that much videgame wisdom rolling around up there. The only videogame I ever play is Mariokart so I’d be toast without you.”
“Mariokart? That’s it?? No problem, doll. It was nice to contribute.” He chuckles at that.
You divvied the money up and handed him his half.
“Guess I’m not such a cheap date afterall, huh?”
He chuckled as he took his half from you.
“I’m gonna go pay the tab with our winnings, I’ll be back”
You picked up your phone while you waited for him to find some missed texts from Steve.
‘How’s it going?’ ‘Are you guys doing okay?’ ‘I haven’t heard anything so I’m assuming you haven’t killed each other. Have fun, text if you need a ride home.’
You almost rolled your eyes at Steve’s insistence but found yourself smiling instead. You’d text him back when you got home.
Bucky was walking up to you once more and you smiled at him slightly.
“You said you’re good at Mariokart?”
“I didn’t say I was good at Mariokart, I said that I played it. Why?”
“Well I was thinkin’ maybe we could go back to mine and I could whoop your butt”
You weren’t going to say yes but now he was goading you and you took the bait without hesitation.
“Oh, you’re on, Barnes. You’re so, so on.”
His smile grew wider when he heard your response. With that he placed his hand on your lower back and ushered you out of the bar.
____
You played two tournament cups worth of Mariokart and Bucky had indeed whooped your butt. You don’t know why you were surprised, with how much gaming he and Steve do it’s no surprise he’s a natural. You still had fun though. Just when you were about to propose a third round Bucky got up and headed to the kitchen without a word.
He came back with two glasses of water and handed you one. He sat down on the floor next to you and you set down your controller.
“Here, drink up.”
You were taken aback a bit by the kind gesture but accepted the glass just the same.
“Thank you, I might regret saying this but, you’re not so bad when you’re not being insufferable, Barnes”. You told him
He smiled and shook his head as he drank his water.
“Thanks, I guess”
“How come you can’t be like this all the time? When it’s just the two of us you’re so kind and you’re even… I don’t know, funny maybe. Why do you get all cocky whenever else I see you?”
He looked down into his glass at your comment and you watched his brows crease in thought.
“I don’t know, it just sort of… happens, whenever I’m around other people I don’t know that well. I don’t mean to be a dick or anything but it’s like I can’t help myself. People expect me to be a certain way and I can’t help but fall into it sometimes. Nat hated that about me, it’s part of the reason why she dumped me, actually”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know that. And I’m sorry about the breakup, too. I know you guys were together for a while.” Bucky only shrugged at this and downed the rest of his water.
“It is what it is. I’m ready to be over it, I’m getting there slowly but surely. I gotta say, you’re not so bad either when you’re not getting all defensive and in my face. You’re actually pretty funny”
Your turn to become flustered at a personal analysis.
“Thanks, I guess I don’t mean to be so defensive either, it's just my response to most other people. I feel myself slip into it and it can’t be helped.” You explained.
Bucky nods at you, not knowing entirely what to say in response.
“I like spending time with you” He says leaning closer to you.
You swallow thickly, not sure what to make of what you feel knowing his face is so close to yours.
“I… like spending time with you too. You’re not what I thought.”
“Me neither,” he shakes his head, “You’re something else.”
With that he leans his head closer to yours and you feel yourself close your eyes and move your lips to slant perfectly into his. You’re kissing Bucky Barnes. The Bucky Barnes you can’t stand. That Bucky Barnes. You’ve decided that his tongue feels too good in your mouth to care now.
His hands come to frame your face and bring you in closer. His hands are warm and calloused but they feel like comfort. You can’t help but to melt. You moan into his mouth and it seems to spur him on. He pulls you into his lap and you let out a noise of surprise that’s muffled by his mouth on yours.
Your hands come to caress his sides and you take your time feeling every muscle and ridge. Your hands idly make their way under the hem of his shirt and his skin is just as smooth as you’d expect. He sighs into your mouth and it takes all of your strength not to fall apart right there. You feel yourself getting lightheaded and have to pull away for air. When you do you rest your forehead against his and the only sound is both of your breathing.
You finally brave a look at him and he has the softest smile on his lips.
“Sorry, doll, didn’t mean to get so carried away but I’ve been waiting for a long time to do that.”
This catches you off guard.
“You have? Wait, did you like me? But you flirt with everyone!” You explain.
“With you, I flirt with you. You just can’t stand me” he laughs out, “Nat dumped me for a couple reasons but that’s one of them she told me I needed to get my priorities straight and I gotta say, I’m thankin’ her for sayin’ it ‘cause she was right.”
You don’t know what to say or what to make of any of this. All you know is that you want to kiss him again, so you do. You grab him by the collar and pull him into you again. He lets out a startled noise but kisses you back all the same.
You don’t care what you used to think of Bucky Barnes and you don’t care about what’ll happen after today. Right now all you care about is feeling him in sync with you for the first time. You could live in this moment forever but right now will have to do.

***
Stupid. That’s what she was. Stupid. Emily Lucille Colvert was the stupidest girl alive. It was Friday, and she was still berating herself for her actions on Monday. She had shown up that first day determined to be as cool and detached to Dr. Barnes as humanly possible. She had done a good job of it too. Except for when she hadn’t. Turning the coffee pot off had been a little petty, she would admit that. However, she couldn’t bring herself to feel bad about it. Men who cheated, especially on their wives, deserved to have gross, cold coffee.
Her first mistake had been assuming that he wouldn’t simply search for coffee elsewhere. Rookie mistake Marty—rookie mistake. Her second mistake had been allowing him to pay for her coffee and then of course, her third mistake had been to sink into comfortable conversation with him. It wasn’t until he had accidently grabbed her hand, that she realized how easily she had caved into his charming ways. After that day, she had made sure not to let it happen again. Cold and professional was an understatement for how she interacted with Dr. Barnes. Any time he attempted to steer a conversation away from his classes, her classes, or her research, she shut it down immediately, either finding a way to physically leave or just not responding at all. So far it had worked well. Now, she just had to get through the next ten months with this man and then she was free and clear. She could do that. She could definitely do that.
“Excuse me, ma’am, you wouldn’t happen to know where I can find a blonde girl, about your height, really funny looking?” A deep voice sounded from the doorway of the lab, pulling Emily’s attention away from the excel sheet in front of her.
“Sammy!” Emily jumped up from her desk and launched herself at the tall, dark man. Large arms engulfed her in a tight embrace as he lifted her from the ground with a groan.
“You’re getting heavy girl,” said Sam with a laugh, setting Emily back down. Playfully, she swatted his arm but laughed all the same.
“What are you doing here? I thought you went back to Seattle!”
“I did, and it was nice. But theeeeen I got a job here working for the USGA. You’re looking at the new public relations representative for Idaho,” Sam said, holding his arms out, presenting himself to her with gusto.
“What?! That’s amazing Sammy, I’m so happy for you!” She wrapped her arms around his waist, pulling him in for another hug. Sam placed a hand around her shoulders and brought another up to cup the back of her head.
“Thank you, Emmy. How’s my favorite girl doing? Life treating you alright? How’s Clint?”
Emily sighed into Sam’s chest, “Well, it’s been better, I can say that. Clint is a…whole story.”
“Uh oh, do I need to kick some ass?”
Emily lifted her head to look up at Sam’s friendly and familiar face. The warm brown eyes held the same twinkle that they had when they’d met, her freshman year. His smooth complexion now held a smattering of curly black hair. He was trying to grow a beard. Again.
“No ass kicking required. How about I tell you about it over beer and pizza tonight? We’ll get the gang together and you can tell us all about this new job.”
“Beer and pizza, it is.”
Their shared smiles were interrupted by the clearing of a throat. Emily looked over to see Dr. Barnes leaning on the doorway of the lab, arms crossed and a scowl deep on his face. The fabric of his white t-shirt pulled tight across his muscular chest. Emily quickly unwrapped her arms from Sam. Her friend though, kept his arm casually slung over her shoulders. Dr. Barnes eyed Sam speculatively, before pushing himself off of the doorframe and walking past them.
“Miss Colvert, I believe we have a meeting in two minutes. Mind joining me in my office?”
“Yes, I’ll be right there, Dr. Barnes,” Emily responded, watching his retreating back disappear into his office.
“Whoa, what happened to Dr. E?” Sam asked, turning towards her.
“He didn’t tell you?”
“Well it’s not as if I signed up for the monthly newsletter Emmy. The man barely remembered my thesis defense, I doubt he’d remember to tell me anything after I graduated.”
“Miss Colvert,” Dr. Barnes interrupted their conversation, leaning out of his office.
“Coming,” Emily responded, not at all pleased with the expression on her advisor’s face. She turned back towards Sam, “I’ll tell you all about it tonight, promise.”
“Okay, text me,” said Sam, giving her another quick hug and turning to leave.
Emily turned back towards Dr. Barnes, the man assessed her with a disapproving expression before turning back into his office. Emily followed him quickly, confused as to what could possibly have him in such a bad mood. Up until today he hadn’t seemed to be one to obsess too much over punctuality. He had already shown up tardy to two of his classes and it was the first week of the semester. So why was he so concerned about her talking to a friend for a few minutes, instead of being there for their meeting at exactly 4 o’clock?
She entered his office tentatively, taking a moment to linger at the doorway and stare at the man sitting at a desk that used to feel comfortable and inviting. Now, it held too many questions. Too many implications. Dr. Barnes was busy arranging some notes in front of him, clearing some space on the messy desk. The afternoon sun shone through his window, light falling across his angular face. His long, dark eyelashes cast a shadow over his cheekbones, only emphasizing the strong mix of masculine and feminine features of his face. Emily could not deny, even now, that he was handsome. Truthfully, it was the fact that he was so handsome that got her into his mess in the first place. Dr. Barnes glanced up at her lingering figure and motioned for her to sit down. She stepped in, taking a seat, all the while eyeing the man in front of her.
It was silent for quite some time before he finally spoke, “Who was that?”
What? “Who?”
“The man that was just here, who was it?” his tone seemed light, but there was a biting edge to it that made Emily feel as though this was anything but a casual question. Was he jealous?
“Sam Wilson. He graduated last year. Dr. Erskine co-advised him.” Emily kept her answer vague, testing her theory.
“Huh.” he busied himself with his computer before leaning back in his chair and finally looking her in the eye. “You seemed quite close,” he said, his expression hostile and accusatory.
“Yes, but not nearly as close as him and his fiancée,” Emily responded, watching the gears turn and click into place in his head. Clearing his throat, he sat up straighter, obviously embarrassed. Emily, however, was as far from embarrassed as she could get. She was seething. Who was this man to get jealous over anyone she may or may not be seeing? He was married for Christ sake! Not to mention, if she recalled correctly from the overheard conversation earlier that week, tonight was date night with Trixie. The audacity had her blood boiling. And honestly, what kind of a name was that anyway? Trixie. No, she stopped herself. She was being petty. It wasn’t that poor woman’s fault that her husband was a lying, cheating bastard. Dr. Barnes was the problem. The stupid, awful man with his stupid, awful handsome face and his admittedly friendly and good-humored personality. That is, when he wasn’t being a jealous asshole.
They spent the next two hours going over her research. Dr. Barnes was surprisingly critical. He pushed and challenged her ideas and thoughts in an annoyingly insightful way. He nitpicked and preened through her proposal, her methodology, the justification behind it, her full data set and even some early data analysis. All the while, Emily found her head spinning at the amount of critique and just how…right he was. While it was frustrating, she wished more than anything that he had been on her research committee from the start. This was exactly the kind of insight and contribution she had been hoping for when Doc confessed that he would be advising her. She just wished that it all hadn’t been spoiled by their night together in that alleyway. Dr. Barnes made it incredibly hard to hate him sometimes. It made the whole situation complicated. She breathed a sigh of relief when she was finally free of him, fleeing from the small office before he could try and talk about anything not work related. She contemplated staying on campus to continue working, but the thought of being anywhere near the man in the adjacent office set her teeth on edge.  So, she left, opting to prepare for her classes next week at home before she met Sam and the rest.
“There she is!” Sam’s voice boomed throughout the small bar as Emily entered, still attempting to rub the sleep from her eyes. Goody’s had been running and thriving for the past 50 years. It was small, and off the beaten path, but any local to the Pocatello area knew that Goody’s was the place to go if you wanted good pizza and a stiff drink.
“Took you long enough!” Natasha chimed in, standing and pulling Emily into a hug.
“Sorry! I was grading and fell asleep on my couch,” Emily said, setting her stuff down in an empty chair at the table.
“Have they delivered your new mattress yet or are you still stubbornly camping out on the couch?” asked Natasha, sitting back down.
“I think that’s a better question for my back. Why did no one tell me that once I turned 27, I’d no longer be able to just sleep anywhere?”
“Sweetie why are you sleeping on your couch?” asked CeCe, Sam’s long-term girlfriend recently turned fiancée.
“Ugh, I was hoping Nat would have spilled the beans by the time I got here so I wouldn’t have to.”
“Wow, one minute I’m too involved in your life and now I’m not involved enough?” Nat raised an eyebrow, smiling sarcastically as she took a swig from her bottle of Heineken.
“We broke up,” said Emily bluntly. Hoping that if she just got it out of the way, it wouldn’t be such a big deal.
“Oh, Emily I’m so sorry,” CeCe said, reaching out and taking her hand.
“Yea, I’m sorry too Emmy. Breakups are tough for everyone involved,” said Sam, giving her a sympathetic look.
“Tell them why you broke up Emily,” Natasha chided.
“I thought you weren’t going to be as involved in my life Natasha.”
“I changed my mind. I’m very much involved again.”
Emily sighed deeply, “I found him in our bed with his coworker Sharon.”
“Hence, the new mattress. Okay, it’s all starting to make sense now.” CeCe grimaced into her drink.
“And I’m not supposed to kick his ass, why?” Sam asked, leaning back in his chair heavily, frowning.
“Because, it would only make things worse. I don’t want anything more to do with him. You know how I feel about cheating. As far as I’m concerned, he’s just two wasted years of my life. Unfortunate, but just a small blip in the grand scheme of things,” Emily stated resolutely. The group was silent as they took in her statement, Sam and CeCe nodding in support while Nat gave her a skeptical look.
“Hey, didn’t you guys have like a king-sized bed?” Sam broke the silence, looking at her expectantly.
“Yea, California King. Why?”
“Well…it’d be a shame if a perfectly good bed were to go to waste.”
“Baby, we are not putting a used bed in our house,” CeCe stated, shaking her head.
“Why not? It’s not like we’re picking it up off the street, it belongs to a friend!”
“We have the money to buy our bed Samuel!”
Emily laughed at the bickering couple before turning to Nat. It had been a while since the two had caught up, both of their weeks taking over a majority of their time.
“So, tell me, how did things go with Steve the other night?”
“Oh my god, Emily—" Natasha looked at her, shaking her head in exasperation, “—It was amazing. He paid. He opened my doors for me. He genuinely listened to me and asked me actual questions. And get this, he’s an elementary school teacher. Which means he loves kids!”
Emily laughed, “Seriously? Already thinking about kids? The sex must have been fantastic.”
“Well…”
“You didn’t?!”
“No! It’s not like that. It’s—I really like him Em. We did kiss though. It was…promising.” Natasha leaned back in her chair, a small smile spread across her face as she thought about it. “But enough about me. How are things going with you and the boss?”
“We talkin’ about Mister Stick Up His Ass that’s taken over Dr. E’s office?” Sam interrupted, pausing his heated discussion with CeCe to finally figure out just who Dr. Barnes was.
“So, you’ve met?” asked Nat.
“Yea, the man looked like he wanted to push me out the window,” said Sam.
“He did not, stop exaggerating. He’s just punctual is all.” Emily had no idea why she was defending the man she was currently disgusted with. “Doc retired and now Dr. Barnes is his replacement and my advisor for the rest of the year.”
“Well, I can’t say I’m surprised. The old man should have retired years ago. What is he now? 107?” Sam asked, grinning into his bottle of beer.
“And that, is why you don’t get the monthly newsletter Sammy,” said Emily, sticking her tongue out at him before changing the subject. “Say, we have been here for a while now, and I’ve yet to have anyone take my order—" she looked around dramatically, catching the eye of an older brunette woman, “—Would be nice to get some SERVICE!”
“Emily Lucille Colvert, if you keep yelling in my bar like that, I will fire you.” Maria, the manager of Goody’s sauntered over, wiping her hands on the black apron wrapped around her waist. Her short brown hair fell to her chin, ending in a slight curl that framed the strong line of her jaw. The lines and creases at the corners of her warm eyes revealed years of laughter, while the slight limp in her walk and hunch of her shoulders stood testament to years of hard work.
“You wouldn’t fire me Maria. I’m too valuable,” replied Emily, smiling cheekily.
Maria scoffed, rolling her eyes and placing a hand on her hip, “The minute I find a bartender as competent and that everyone likes as much as you, you’re out of here and that’s a promise.”
“Promise? I’ll hold you to that,” Emily said, watching as Maria began walking away and back towards the kitchen, “Hey! What about our pizza and drinks?” she called after the woman.
Maria stopped and turned at the kitchen door, hand placed against the wood, “I put your usual order in the moment I saw these hooligan friends of yours walk in. If you want a drink, you know where the bar is!” The second half was said over her shoulder as she pressed the swinging door open and disappeared.
“She’ll never fire me. I’ll be working here until I’m an old and decrepit woman,” Emily laughed, standing up and walking behind the bar, pouring herself a pint of Caribou Slobber.
“Don’t even,” said Nat. “You’re going to be working for some kind of environmental agency before you know it.”
“Speaking of jobs, Sammy, tell us all about this new job of yours that’s brought you back to the great state of Idaho,” said Emily, sitting back down just in time for their pizza to arrive. An extra-large meat lover’s special. Extra cheese. The group dug in, eating and drinking their fill as Sam told them all about the glamorous world of government work and public relations. It was nice, Emily thought, to catch up with Sam and CeCe. They seemed incredibly happy to be back in the area with a new house and new careers. They were talking about starting a family soon. Maybe getting a cat. Natasha seemed to be happy as well. She was obviously smitten with Steve. It seemed like, almost every opportunity she got, she brought up something he had said or did. It was cute in a sickeningly sweet way. Emily was happy for them, really, she was. However, the more they talked and gushed about how great their lives were going, the more Emily found herself dipping further into a hole. She’d give anything to have an ounce of what they had. Sure, she had a good life, but things were just so messy at the moment. With Dr. Barnes and Clint—
“Oh my god. Who the fuck does he think he is walking in here with her?” CeCe’s outburst caught Emily off guard, bringing her out of her thoughts to focus on the direction the woman was looking. There by the entrance were Clint and Sharon, accompanied by a few others from their lab. At first, Emily felt numb. Stunned. Unsure of what to do or say or think. Then, slowly a deep pit formed in the bottom of her stomach and she could feel the sting of threatening tears in the corners of her eyes. She swallowed thickly. Clint knew this was her place. He knew and yet here he was, not even three weeks after their breakup and he had brought her. Why?
“Em, we can totally leave if you want to,” said Nat, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. Emily shrugged it off, standing abruptly and grabbing her coat off the back of the chair.
“No, no. You guys stay, finish the pizza and beer. Put it on my tab. Maria knows I’m good for it. I’m just gonna’ go home. I’m tired anyways.” Emily knew that the words were unconvincing, but it didn’t stop them from spilling past her lips and out to her friends.
“Do you want me to give you a ride home? It’s getting dark out,” Sam offered, arms braced against the chair, ready to stand at any moment.
Emily waved him off casually, “No, I’m fine. I’m like ten blocks away. Plus, I think I need to walk off all the pizza. You know, get some steps in so I don’t feel all the cheese and meat on my hips tomorrow.” She laughed, trying to sprinkle in some humor. Waving the group goodbye, she chanced a quick glance in Clint and Sharon’s direction as she fled towards the back exit. To her absolute horror, Clint’s eyes were trained directly on her, watching as she fled like a loser from the bar and away from him.

Return of Macavity; Supernatural x sister reader
*Author’s note*
Okay guys now this idea was buzzing around my mind for several weeks after seeing all the nice comments from pt. 1 “The chain” so I decided to make a pt.2 to this and eventually just maybe either during Thanksgiving break or once I am done with school this semester, I will write up a third and final part with Alt. endings as to what happens.
Now there is the typical SPN warning of swearing, violence, fight scenes, guns (I EXPRESS THIS ESP. AFTER WHAT HAS HAPPENED NOW THAT I AM POSTING THIS) but there is fluffyness in this as I have offically caught up since 2 wks. before the s.14 premiere of SPN. Okay so now that that’s out of the way I leave you guys to enjoy pt.2 :)
____________________________________________________________
I was running through the darkness.  I ran and ran as fast I could but I couldn’t get away.  I also kept hearing his dark and sinister laughter echoing through the darkness.  Suddenly I tripped on something and when I looked down I found roots starting to coil around my ankles.  I tried to free myself with my magic but nothing was working.  It was then I felt a foot collide with my chest and there standing over me was the demon Macavity.
His laughter and dark face glared down at me, his piercing yellow eyes sent shivers down my spine as I felt him press his foot harder against me.  I tried to scream but nothing came out……
I was screaming Bloody Mary as I tossed and turned in my bed when I felt someone shaking me gently. My eyes shot open and there stood the newest member of our little family and recently turned boyfriend Jack Kline.
“It’s okay (y/n), it’s okay, you’re okay”. I panted before looking down sadly still panting. He brought me close to his chest, my ear resting right over his heart. His gentle heartbeats calming my nerves as I tried to match my breathing with the beats of his heart.  It was then my brothers and Cas came barging in shortly after my brothers with their guns out and Cas with an angel blade in hand.
But once they saw that I was just having a nightmare and Jack was trying to soothe me, they lowered their weapons and knew right away what my dream was about.
“Him again?” asked Dean not even in a question format.  I let out a frightened whimper answering him.
It had been 2 years since that day I came back from Hell under Macavity’s imprisonment.  For those that don’t know, I was taken after a case gone wrong and for nine months I was tortured and forced to become his ultimate weapon.  For nine months I was brainwashed, whipped, scarred, and manipulated into hating my brothers until I unleashed my inner powers.
Nine months after my torment, he thought I was ready to finally to carry out my mission; to terminate and take vengeance on my brothers.  But as always, they saved the day and finally set my mind free from my brainwashed state and with lots and lots and I mean lots of TLC, angel therapy from Cas I was semi-back to normal.  But even now, 2 years later today, I still get PTSD that he’s still watching me and I can hear him telling me that he is disappointed in me telling me that I failed him.
He tells me that he’s planning on finding me and taking me back to where I belonged and this time he was going to make sure I stayed his perfect weapon, right after he killed everyone I loved and forced me to watch.
I felt the bed dip beside me and I took notice that Sammy now sat beside Jack.  I was then transferred to my brother’s arms who wrapped his arms around me tightly rubbing my arm softly as he rested his chin on top of my head.
Tumblr media
“He’s gone (y/n), he can’t find you here. You’re safe here. You’re with your family. It’s okay sweetie, it’s okay”.  I sniffled and buried myself into his chest.  His hand soothing rubbed my arm up and down comfortingly as I kept whimpering fearfully.
When I opened my eyes, I saw Jack staring right back at me.  He leaned forward and gently touched my nose with his before leaning his forehead against mine.  I took in his strength and felt my fear slowly slip away.
“I would like to be with (y/n) alone for a moment, if that is alright” Cas stated.
“Do what you gotta do Cas, help our little sis in any way you can. Come on Sammy, we gotta look into how we can kill this Macavity bastard”. I felt Sam kiss the top of my head before he left my side leaving Jack and I still on the bed.  As my brothers left, Cas turned and looked to Jack telling him that he needed to leave.  I felt Jack grip my hand tightly but I placed my other hand on top of his and we spoke through our telepathic bond.
‘Please Jack, I don’t want you to hear what I’m going to say’.
‘I’ll be right outside. I won’t be far, as soon as Castiel’s done I’ll come right back, I promise bunny’. He kissed me softly before wiping away a stray tear and soon he left my room shutting the door behind him, leaving Cas and I alone in my room. He slowly approached my bed and sat down at the foot of it and he said.
“What happened this time?” I shook my head and said something that I have been dying to get off my chest.
“Six months. Six months this is happened to me every night Cass and it’s not getting any better!” I choked out.
“Don’t worry (y/n), we’re starting a trail right now on how to finally end this. He won’t ever get you back”.
“Who are you guys fooling? You know as well as I do that nothing not even Lucifer has been able to kill him!” I snapped.  I turned away from the angel and I continued, “Oh Cas, while I’m grateful he’s made me unlock my true strength, I—” I began to trail off as more tears began to stream down my face and my voice began to crack as I cried out, “I wish—I wish he had just killed me!” I brought my face into my hands as I wept hysterically.
I soon felt Cas’ arms wrap around me as he brought me close to his chest.  He gently kissed my forehead and I even felt his wings wrap around me as I kept crying until I had cried myself to sleep.
*3rd Person POV*
Shortly after (y/n) had fallen asleep, Jack came right back into the room to see his father holding his girlfriend.  Castiel looked to Jack and Jack nodded softly.  He then slowly got up trying not to wake (y/n) up and transfer her into Jack’s arms.
Jack slowly leaned up against the headrest of the bed while holding his girlfriend in his arms. He noticed the tearstains on her cheeks, the dark hollowed bags under her eyes and the still stress-like features that plastered across her sleeping face.
Even though he had been told briefly of what Macavity had done to her by both her brothers and Castiel and sometimes by (y/n) herself, he still didn’t know the trauma that still came with what happened to her.  But he vowed to himself that if this Macavity ever came back for her, he’d kill him for hurting the woman that he loves and make sure that he never hurts another person again.
He summoned out his wings and they curled up around (y/n) protectively.  His pure white with hidden bluish tint wings wrapped around her almost as if shielding her from the darkness of the world and hoping that he himself was her guiding light in her dark torment.
Castiel walked towards the war room of the Bunker where Sam and Dean were doing some research on Macavity’s weakness.  When the brothers noticed Cas’ return, Dean said.
“How is she?”
“Not good. She wishes that he had just killed her instead of turning her into his weapon. For the past six months it’s gotten worse, I fear that he may be coming for her”.
“Like Hell we’re going to allow that!” Dean snarled.
“I just wish there was something, anything I don’t care whether in Lore or the Book of the Damned that could help us find a way to finally kill him” stated Sam.
“Well right now we need to focus on one thing. What can we do to help (n/n)? She hasn’t been at her top game and she can’t keep going on like this, she’s only getting worse” said Dean.  The three men began to ponder on what they could do to help the youngest of their team (well minus Jack but anyways).
“Maybe a change of scenery would do her good”. Suggested Castiel.
“But what if Macavity is tracking her down? We can’t really ward off a beach” said Dean.
“I might know somewhere that’s safe and we’ll be able to protect her”. Suggested Sam.  Dean and Cas looked at him and Dean immediately knew who and where his brother was suggesting.
“Make the call”. Sam then picked up his phone and called the number that he wanted.  He waited for two rings when the phone was picked up and he said.
“Hey Jody, it’s Sam. Listen we need to ask you a favor…..”
*My POV*
The next thing I knew I woke up to see white feathers wrapped around me.  I recognized who it was by the bluish tint hidden within the wings, that and I could feel his body under mine.  I looked up to see Jack looking down at me and he said.
“Good morning”. He said with a soft smile.
“Morning” I croaked out.
“How are you feeling?” he asked as he tilted my chin up to look him in the eye.
“A bit better, did you not sleep at all last night?”
“No. I wanted to watch over you in case you had another nightmare. In case he—he hurt you again”.  I smiled at him lovingly and I said to him.
“Jack, have I ever told you, you are an angel?”
“Well I am half angel” he said like it was a blunt fact.  I chuckled softly and said as I cupped his face.
“I mean that you are literally the sweetest guy I have ever met”.
“Oh”. I smiled and leaned up and kissed his lips with mine before I got out of his wings and took his hand and led us to the kitchen to have some breakfast.
Once we got to the kitchen, I saw Dean with his cup of coffee and Sam at his computer.
“Hey, look who finally decided to wake up” Dean teased.  I sent him a bitch face and that’s when Sam said.
“Oh that’s good you’re up. Pack your bags (y/n), we’re going out of state”.
“What do we got a case already?”
“Nope, even better. Now go quickly vámonos chica!” Dean said in a hurry as he separated me from Jack and pushed me out of the kitchen.
“Geez hold on a sec! Can I at least have some breakfast first?”
“Ugh fine! Eat up then pack your bags!” I then took some of my brother Dean’s famous scrambled eggs and toast and ate up my breakfast.
Once I got done, Sammy took care of the dishes and I went up to get dressed as well as to pack up my bags.
“How much clothes will I need?”
“About a week’s worth” said Sam.  As I put in some clothes as well as my bras and underwear, I then asked.
“Is there any chance I could ask where we’re going exactly?”
“Sorry sweetie, that’s a surprise” he said. I groaned and finished packing up my bags and once that was all done he picked up my bag and we both headed out to the car.
Mine, Dean’s and Sam’s bags went into Baby’s trunk and I got in my usual spot right behind Sammy with Jack in the middle and Cas behind Dean.  Dean then turned on Baby’s ignition and her purrs soon started up and we drove out of the Bunker to Chuck knows where.
As we drove on, Dean looked at me through the rearview mirror and he said.
“Hey baby girl, I know you haven’t been sleeping well on your own, why don’t you catch a few z’s it’s gonna be awhile before we reach our destination”. I looked at him and squirmed in my seat hesitantly.  I wanted to tell him that I feared to go to sleep because I knew that Macavity would show himself and taunt me as he does every time I close my eyes.  It was then I felt a hand at my knee and I turned to see Jack.
“I’ll protect you while you sleep” he said as he looked deeply into my eyes.  I smiled softly at him and he whispered softly, “Come here,” he brought me close to his chest and I nuzzled myself into him as I felt his hand rub up and down my arm.
“Now you listen kid, I better see those hands through this mirror, any lower and I’m pulling this car over and you’re walking the rest of the way, understood?” Dean said overprotectively.
“I would never take advantage of (y/n) while she sleeps” Jack stated.
“Dean leave him alone and eyes on the road and not in the backseat, besides how many times has dad told you that line every time you had a girl in here”. I snapped which made Sam try to suppress a laugh to which Dean looked at him with a bitch face telling him to shut up.
I then turned my attention back to Jack and I cuddled close to him and his arms went further around me bringing me even closer to him.  He pressed a light kiss to my forehead and rested his head on top of mine, he even softly hummed me one of my favorite 80’s songs “Take on Me” by Ah-ha which sent me off to sleep almost instantly.
I found myself in a dark forest once more all alone. Sam, Dean, Cas and even Jack were nowhere to be found.  I looked around paranoid when I heard his laugh again.  That haunting, maniacal, deep laugh that always sent shivers down my spine.
Suddenly I found myself pinned by my throat and there standing before me in all his crazed infamy was the mad demon psychic Macavity. His wildly, madden reddish-brown hair hung around his face much like a lion’s mane, his hypnotizing yellow cat-like eyes that can make anyone fall under his spell whether they be man, woman, monster, angel, demon, whomever.
Even with these traits, his face still appears to be the most handsomest man any woman would love to bed.
Tumblr media
No one can resist the hypnotic trance of Macavity.  The true Napoleon of Hell.
“Oh my precious little Winchester,” I gripped onto his hand that held my throat trying to free myself before I blacked out. “You think you can escape from me? I know where your brothers and those angels are taking you. And I’m coming for you my sweet. I promise, this time when I fix you, you won’t ever turn back”.
“Please…..just kill me” I begged.
“Oh my dear you would wish that wouldn’t you? But you are just too good to kill, that’s why I turned you into my weapon. You could’ve taken your revenge, finally ended the endless hell that your brothers have put you through, yet you failed me. Your humanity just had to pop out all because of a song. Well this time that won’t happen again”.  Suddenly I felt his hand go right through my chest and that’s when I felt myself jolt up awake.
I let out a gasp and gripped tightly onto a soft, fabric blue jacket and that’s when I saw Jack still beside me and he said.
“You were trembling in your sleep, I thought it best to wake you up before anything else happened to you”. I leaned up against him and hugged him as tight as I could.
“Hey (y/n), good to see you’re up. Come on we just got here, everyone’s waiting to see yah” Dean said as he peeked in through the window.  Jack opened up his door and got out first before holding out his hand for me to take.
I took his hand and he gently pulled me out and I was soon staring at a very familiar house with some very familiar female faces that I had not seen in forever.
Welcome to Jody Mill’s hunting home for Wayward Sisters.
Jody, Patience, Claire, Alex, and Donna.  The founding members and probably the five most badass chicks besides myself that go into the Hunting business.  They all greeted me with cheers or simple waves and I was truly surprised.
“What? How did—you guys did this?” I asked turning towards my brothers.
“We felt like you could use some time off away from the Bunker, but we knew you still needed to be protected just in case so—we called Jody up and she’s allowed us to stay for the week” said Sam with a smile.  I looked at my big brother and trudged up to him and hugged him as tight as I could.
“I love you yah big moose”. He chuckled and rocked me slightly before I turned towards Dean and hugged him as well.  He proceeded to lift me up and give me a small kiss on my head.  I then did the same for Cas and Jack knowing that they were also involved before I raced up to the girls.
“Come here sweetheart” Jody said as she hugged me motherly.  Ever since the first few cases we’ve helped her with, Jody has become the mother I never really had (I’d really rather not talk about my birth mother just know there were a lot of booze and drugs) I’ve looked up to her for womanly problems and she was always there to lend me a hand when it came to girl stuff.
As we separated I was suddenly picked up and twirled around by Sheriff Donna.  Ever since that case with the weight losses monster scam, she’s basically kinda loved me and my brothers then once she found out the truth about monsters, she really became like the fun aunt that you just want to hang out with for me.  She’s definitely a hugger but you learn to get pass her hyperness because when thing get serious, you never want to be on her bad side.
I then moved to the girls who were around my age or slightly older or younger than me.  First I set my eyes on Alex; The once kidnapped girl and forced to become a sort of “Vampire trafficker” for a nest.  But the moment my brothers, Jody and I came to save her, she did the right thing and ever since then she’s been trying to clean herself up and she’s done a pretty good job at that.
Sure there were some ups and downs like one of her victims coming back to kill her and everyone else she loved but we put a stop to those dicks and I even got to comfort her of her broken heart since her supposed boyfriend only went out with her because he was told to ever since he was turned.
“Hey Alex, how you been?”
“School still sucks but at least I’ll be graduating soon”. I smiled at her and we both hugged each other.  It was then my eyes soon set on Claire.
Ahh yes, Claire Novak. The daughter of Castiel’s vessel Jimmy Novak.  But ever since that day when Cas was booted out of Jimmy, that turned everything around for her.  This girl has been through so much crap that I’m surprised she didn’t end up either killing herself or going mad and be put in a mental institution.
Sure she’s got a mouth on her and can be a real bitch sometimes but when push comes to shove, she won’t hesitate to kill anyone who threatens her family.  I stood before her and I said.
“Hello bitch”.
“Hey whore” she said to me. I smirked at her and we both clapped out hands together before bringing each other for a brief hug.  “So demon messing with you head huh? Been there before”.
“Claire!” Jody hissed. I waved it off telling her it was fine and I said to her.
“Yep, same psycho bastard that made me become Hela basically”.
“Gotta admit though, that does come in handy”. I nodded in agreement.  I then turned to the newest member of the Wayward sisters, Patience Moseley.
Patience is actually the granddaughter of Missouri Moseley, a psychic that once helped out my brothers over 10 years ago before I met them and long story short we ended up saving her from a wraith that was killing psychics.  Apparently her dad kicked her out because of her visions so Jody gave her a place in her home and adopted her as another daughter.
After the whole Dreamwalker incident with Kaia (Chuck rest her soul) I ended up on a random highway alone and that’s when I was found fortunately by Donna whom I explained everything to and I sent the call to Jody.  We all met up and rescued my brothers from the bad place, and from that moment forward, the Wayward Sisters were born. I hugged her and I said.
“So you getting your powers down at all since I last saw you?”
“Visions come up every now and then, thankfully they come up at the right time during hunts. I’ve been able to prevent more deaths from happening each time”.
“Alright way to go Raven Baxter” I teased her with the nickname.
“Okay what do you say we get you all set up into your rooms and I’ve got some steak and potatoes just cooking in the kitchen”. Jody said as she picked up my suitcase.
“Oh yeah Jody I love you right now!” my brother Dean proclaimed as he hugged her. Jody smiled and patted his back and we all soon gathered inside Jody’s place.
I was sharing a room with Claire and as I unpacked my stuff she was currently laying on her bed and she said.
“So that new guy that’s around you guys, he the one you banging?” I choked on air and I looked at her in shock and said.
“Claire what the hell!? No!”
“Hey I’m just askin. He’s been following you like some sappy puppy and he’s not bad looking, kind reminds me of a young Leo DiCaprio”.
“Yeah I guess he kinda does. But it’s too soon for all that, we’ve barely reached our 1 year anniversary”. I said.  Once I finished unpacking my stuff in Claire’s room, we both went back downstairs to see everyone sitting at the table ready to eat.  I sat between my brothers and for the first time I ate a proper dinner meal.
I happily ate the steak and mashed potatoes along with a couple of Hawaiian rolls and some green beans.  Once dinner was done, Sammy and I helped out with Jody cleaning the table up and putting any leftovers in the fridge.
It was then Patience, Alex and Claire took me outside for a little teenage girl quality time.  We were outside listening to some loud music and dancing around like we just didn’t care.  It then progressed into a dance off battle between me and Patience vs. Alex and Claire.
Alex had just gotten done with her epic routine and who would’ve thought that girl could dance so good, guess she got a secret spot on the dance team at her school or something. Now it was my turn.
The Black eyed Peas “Let’s get it started” soon came on the stereo and I just let go and let the music take control over me.  From all those years watching Youtube videos of hip-hop dancers or even watching the BEP music videos watching some of their moves I danced along to the song.
As I ended my dance with my hands crossed over my chest and tilted my chin upwards very quickly taunting both the girls telling them that while they had skills, they didn’t have my skills.  It was then I heard an applause behind me and I could hear Dean cheering and whistling.
I smiled at them and bowed as the grownups plus Jack applauded at me.  But that’s when the trouble truly started.
(A/N: TRUST ME WHEN I SAY YOU’RE GONNA WANNA HEAR THIS. This will give you an idea of Macavity’s laugh)
youtube
Suddenly the stereo went berserk and let out a loud screeching sound and suddenly the entire place as well as any house nearby went completely black.
“What the hell was that?” asked Jody.
“Maybe blew out a fuse, stereos tend to do that”. Suggested Dean.
“No it can’t be, that stereo was recently bought last week”.  Suddenly a sinister laugh echoed through the darkness.  A laugh that I knew all too well.
Sparks from the electrical wires sparked and the stereo made the crashing sounds from the speakers once more and I exclaimed.
“He’s here!”
“Who?” asked Claire.
“Macavity! He’s found me!” I said fearfully.  I held my head in my hands and started feeling my chest become too tight as I could barely breathe properly.  I soon felt Sammy’s arms wrap around me and he said.
“Don’t worry, we won’t let him get you”.
“Alright everyone arm yourselves and get ready” stated Dean.
The entire backyard was now pitch black, no lights were seen for miles.  Everyone circled around me protectively and I could hear either guns being cocked or knives being taken out of their sheaths. Macavity’s haunting laugh soon echoed through the night once more but he still wasn’t making himself known.
I whimpered fearfully as I tried to wake myself up thinking this was all a dream but I knew I was kidding myself.  I felt Sam stroke down my hair trying to calm me down as the circle of hunters and angels got tighter and tighter as they waited for Macavity to show himself.
Suddenly in a flash of light, Macavity appeared on the roof of Jody’s house laughing manically. He held his hands outward and I knew immediately what he was doing because I could feel his magic affecting me too.
He had everyone of us paralyzed with our arms outward almost like we were begging for forgiveness before being smite down by God.  He soon levitated down towards the ground and some of us were even forced down onto the ground in submission.
His wicked smile spread across his face as his laugh pierced the night sky before suddenly disappearing from our sights.  Once he was gone, we were all suddenly free from his power and panting softly.
“What the hell did he just do to us?” demanded Dean.
“His hypnotic paralyzing spell. With just an outspread of his hand, he can force an entire stadium of people to keep their eyes on him and become his temporary puppets while he completes a task” I explained.
“Guys….Jody’s missing!” proclaimed Donna.  It was then we finally began to notice that Donna was right.  Jody was nowhere to be seen.
“Jody?”
“Jody!?” We all cried out.
“He took her” I stated shakily.  Everyone turned to me and I said, “He told me he’d take everyone I held most dear, he probably had his goons take Jody while he had the rest of us under his spell”.
“Well we can’t wait around forever. Jack take the girls inside, Sammy you me, Cas and Donna are gonna scope out the area for either Jody or this Macavity bastard”. Said Dean.
“Oh hell no! Jody is out there missing I am not gonna stay here and hide like some helpless mouse!” exclaimed Claire in an extremely pissed off tone.
“Claire, Macavity is not like any other monster you’ve faced. He could easily end you or torture you like he’s done to (y/n). I won’t let you be affected by him too” Cas said protectively.  Claire looked at the angel and swore that she saw bits of her father looking back at her.
“Besides Claire, (y/n) is gonna need every bit of protection she can get. If you won’t do this for us, then do it for her”. Claire then turned towards me and I looked at her and she groaned and said.
“Just please bring her back safe and alive”. My brothers nodded and soon Jack, me and the girls all got inside the barn right next door to Jody’s place.
We warded off the entire barn with every signa we could think of that would hopeful ward off Macavity but I knew deep down he’d find a way. He’s been able to make both Crowley and Lucifer his bitches if he wanted to.  I was sitting on top of a pile of hay when I felt Jack sitting himself right beside me.
“He won’t get you now”.
“He’ll find a way. He always finds a way. So long as I’m still connected to him as his weapon”. I lowered my head into my arms and could hear his voice in my head taunting me. Soon I felt two hands cup my face and I was soon looking deeply into Jack’s eyes.  His eyes soon phased to gold and my mind was put at ease no longer feeling fear or anxiety.
Just warmth and peacefulness.
I smiled softly and thanked him and he smiled back like a puppy and leaned forward and kissed my nose.  Soon my brothers, Donna and Cas came back into the barn and Alex said.
“Did you find her?”
“No, trails cold. There’s not even a single footprint to even track”.  Soon Macavity’s laugh was once again heard through the darkness and I heard Dean growl.
“God I’m really starting to get annoyed with that laugh of his!”
“No shit” I heard Claire say.  Suddenly a knock was heard.  We all looked towards the door and a voice called out.
“Guys it’s me, Jody. Let me in!” My brothers cautiously walked up to the door, Sam held his gun in place while Dean slowly unbolted the door and soon standing there on the other side was Jody.  “Thanks guys”.
“Jody what happened?” asked Sam.
“Well when Macavity had you all under whatever it was that he did….I was suddenly grabbed by these cat-like demons and taken away deep into the woods. Luckily I managed to beat the hell out of them and make my escape”. She explained.
The girls soon all came up to Jody hugging and crying happily for her safe return.
But something didn’t sit right with me.
My body became tense and I started getting fidgety and only one person in existence made me this shaky. Jack turned to me and said.
“(Y/n), what’s wrong? It’s just Jody. She’s alright”. I suddenly sat up and summoned a battle axe in my hand and Dean said.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa take it easy baby girl it’s Jody! Remember?”
“Everyone get away from him!” Donna looked at Jody concerned and that’s when Alex said.
“(Y/n) it really is Jody”.
“Yeah, I can even sense that this is Jody’s aurora” Patience said.  I charged and forced all the girls to back away from ‘Jody’ and charged again to make sure Donna was clear out of the way.
“(Y/n) what’s wrong?” asked Cas.  My whole body was shaking with both fear and rage as I finally worked up the courage to jump onto Jody’s back and I roared out.
“I’LL SHOW YOU!!!” The two of us then were spinning around and around and around until suddenly a flash of light came through the barn and I held the disguised skin of Jody Mills and everyone was screaming out one name.
“MACAVITY!!!”  I rushed towards my brothers who both kept me behind them as they withdrew their guns and fired as many shots as they could. But of course for any demon, these bullets did absolutely nothing to Macavity.  He merely smirked at my brothers and lifted his hand to blood bend out a whip.
He then whipped Alex and Claire across their faces sending them down just for the hell of it and not once taking his eyes off my brothers.
“The famous Dean and Sam Winchester. I’ve heard so much about you from my prized weapon. Especially you Sam. The one who let her go and brought her to me”.
“You shut your damn mouth you sick son of a bitch! What I did—what happened was an accident and I’ve learned from that. But what you’ve done to our sister…..you deserve so much worse than Hell”. Sammy growled venomously.  Macavity smirked and merely said with a shrug.
“Pity, I find Hell to be quite a paradise”. He then pushed my brothers away leaving me completely defenseless.  He suddenly appeared right in front of me gripping my throat tightly and he said right in my face. “I told you I would find you. You can’t hide from me my prized weapon”. I was now flung over his shoulder and I was thrashing wildly like an animal.
I screamed, kicked, scratched whatever I could I even tried to summon a weapon but thanks to him, he was forcing my powers to go dormant so I couldn’t fight against him.
I felt a grip at my hand and I soon saw Castiel gripping onto my wrist tightly trying to pull me free from Macavity’s grip.  Soon I ended up like a rope as I was being pulled between Angel and Demon. I gripped onto Cas’s sleeve as tight as I could and tried to pull myself towards him but Macavity had a strong and powerful grip on my ankles.
Suddenly I was caught and held bridal style by none other than Jack.  He carried me away and raced off holding me as close and tight as he could as he fled from Macavity.
Cas stood between us and Macavity and he sneered at the sorcerer Demon.
“You. Will not. Go anywhere near her again!” Macavity chuckled darkly and said just before sending a strong punch across Castiel’s face.
“And just who is powerful enough to stop me?” With his angel grace boiling inside him and his protective nature for the Winchesters shined through, Cas’s wings soon came out and his eyes sparked blue and he said.
“Me”. He then punched Macavity hard across his face, which ended up literally dislocating his jaw.
He looked at Castiel in shock before he snapped his jaw back into place with a loud crack which made all of us cringe and he said.
“Finally, a real challenge”. Cas revealed his angel blade and Macavity summoned out an angel blade as well that he had acquired after torturing and killing an angel himself.
The two deities proceeded to circle each other staring each other down waiting for the other to make the first move.
Jack brought my head close to his chest so that I wouldn’t have to look at what was about to unfold as I felt his wings wrap protectively around me, shielding me from what was to happen.
*3rd Person POV*
Both Castiel and Macavity stared each other down, both glowing with pure and raw power and finally they charged at each other leaping in the air like a true demon and angel fight.
Macavity made the first strike right into Castiel’s shoulder with the angel blade which made Cas groan in pain but he quickly made a strike right for Macavity’s face, giving him a nice long scar from his eye down to his chin.  Both deities landed on the ground and as Cas gripped his shoulder in pain, Macavity chanted a spell and suddenly turned into a large snake.
He wrapped himself around Castiel squeezing his neck tightly trying to choke the angel but Cas managed to stab him with his angel blade making Macavity coil back and writhe in pain on the floor.  Cas gripped his angel blade tight as Macavity soon began to shapeshift back into his normal form.
He then charged right at the demon and that was when Macavity picked Castiel up and not like a simple choke-grip but like a wrestling move pick up holding the angel vertical for a good moment before literally tossing him across the other side of the room.
Everyone called out Cas’s name in shock or horror wondering if their angel friend was alright. As Castiel slowly pushed himself back onto his feet, he was sudden scratched across the face by cat-like claws across his face before suddenly going under some hypnotic trance.
Macavity was now trying to get inside Castiel’s mind much like he had done to (y/n) all those years ago through months of torture.  He wanted to put Castiel under his spell so that he could have a second hand weapon to handle the hunters while he would retrieve his long lost weapon.
But strong willed, Castiel managed to break Macavity’s spell which surprised him since no one had been able to resist his magic.  The two of them went a couple of rounds with nothing but raw and powerful punches at each other but it was then Macavity went to stab Castiel with the angel blade.
Just before the blade went deep enough to kill Castiel, suddenly a powerful force stopped Macavity midway through his attack as well as sending Castiel away from Macavity’s grip towards the other side of the barn.  Some of the girls came around Cas and soon Macavity’s eyes turned towards Jack.
His eyes glowing as he was using his power to now crush every bone in Macavity’s body.  His rage growing at the fact that this demon not only tried to kill his father, but he was now staring down the very same demon who had for years tormented and tortured his beloved (y/n).
“So it is true—the Nephilim spawn of Lucifer himself” Macavity mocked.
“You hurt my family. My friends. My. Love!” He tightened his hand which made Macavity crumble down to the ground in pain. He smirked at Jack and started to slowly rise up which shocked Jack because so far no one has been able to withstand his powers.
He then pushed Jack back using his own powers against him but even then Macavity was starting to feel weak. Which was a good sign for the hunters.
Dean leaped into action and stabbed Macavity in the back with the demon knife and he sneered in the demon’s ear.
“That was for my sister”. Macavity punched Dean right in the face sending him down to the ground. Donna, Alex and Patience soon got in and fired a couple rounds into Macavity with their shotguns.  Once they ran out as he began to back away injured and barely able to boost up his magic, Claire then came out with silver tiger claws that she herself fashioned and gave a few good deep scratches into Macavity’s side and thigh.
He then began to retreat as fast as he could.  Dean and Sam both immediately race after the demon as he was now on the top level of the barn reaching for some hidden cable wires.  He connected them together which created a powerful electrical light which ended up shocking everyone in the barn.
When they all came around after having the shock of their life, they were surprised to see that Macavity was gone.
*My POV*
“(Y/n), (y/n) come on baby wake up”. I opened my eyes to see Jack standing over me and my brother Sam holding a flashlight onto both of them.
“Sam? Jack?”
“Oh thank god you’re still with us (y/n)”. Jack said as he held me close. I embraced him back and I turned towards Sam.
“Is—is he…..”
“He got away. There’s no sign of him at all, it’s like he was never here”. I sighed solemnly and I said.
“Well that’s Macavity for you, whenever crime strikes again, Macavity’s not there”. I then looked ahead to see Claire and Dean sitting on either side of Castiel.  I raced over towards them and knelt down in front of Cas and saw the damage Macavity had done to him, all because of me.
“(Y/n), this wasn’t your fault”. I heard Cas say.  He groaned in pain and continued as Jack came over and healed his wounds, “None of this was your fault, I couldn’t stand by and watch as he took you again and tortured you as he once did. Along with your brothers, you mean too much to me and if anything happened to you—” I stopped him by embracing him.
I felt him embrace me back and I helped Jack heal Cass up and once our beloved angel was fully healed from his injuries I turned to face my brothers.  I walked up to them and they pulled me close to them and I held onto them with all my might.
“I thought he’d—”
“Shhh, don’t speak. We’re here, alive and still kickin ass” Dean said. They both kissed the top of my head and we stayed there for a moment before I finally said.
“But what about Jody? She’s missing because of me”.
“Don’t worry, we’ll find her. And we won’t stop looking until we do” said Sam.
“Perhaps I can help with that”. We all turned around and through a flickering lamp Lucifer suddenly appeared.
“What the hell?” Dean muttered as everyone drew out their weapons and Dean continued, “You got no right being here!”
“Whoa, whoa take it easy Dean-o, I come in peace baring a gift”. He then snapped his finger and soon spearing right beside him was Jody.
The real Jody.
“Jody?” gasped Claire. Jody turned towards us and nodded at us. Soon all the girls ran up to her and they embraced her and she hugged them back all of them crying in happiness. I turned towards Satin himself and I said.
“Why would you do this?”
“Sweetie-pie those minions of his are completely spineless, they roll over and show their bellies at the first sight of someone higher up than they are, you of all people would know that”. I glared at him giving him my best demon-interrogation stank eye before he continued, “Alright, alright enough with the stare already. Dad it even sends shivers up my spine and I’m supposed to be Big bad daddy of Hell. That Macavity bastard has gone too far already, not only has he refused to share magic which rightfully belongs to me, he’s messed with my favorite toys. Only I get to mess with you Winchesters, I’ve been messing with you way before he ever came into the picture. So I tell you what; if I can help you find a way to end that feline bastard once and for all, would you let me take first cracks at him”.
“First of all how do we know we can even trust you?” Cass stated defensively.
“You don’t, but like I said you all have been searching what—2 years on how to kill him and have come up with nada? That’s because he rarely makes attacks on humans physically, this is the first time in over 5 millennia’s he’s ever physically attacked human beings on Earth. So, do we have a deal?” I looked at my brothers, Cass and Jack.
I knew this was crazy, we’ve teamed up with Lucifer before and it always ends with him stabbing us in the back but now—this seems promising even more so than with the Darkness. I could tell Lucifer hated Macavity just as much as I did so I spoke up.
“Deal“.

Fic Title: "I'm a Little Rusty" (choose your fandom/ship)
This got so long and I’m so sorry. :D
Hmmm… okay, for some reason, I’m getting biker AU, so let’s go with that.
So Jane is a grad student working towards her doctorate in astrophysics.  Across the street from her apartment building is a mechanic who specializes in motorcycles.  As you can imagine, that means Jane’s block is often occupied by enormous bearded, leather wearing biker guys.  While most of them are pretty nice under those rough and tough exteriors, the constant noise of revving engines and loud music playing really isn’t conducive to all night study sessions.  The nearest library is ten miles away, and Jane can’t really afford to live anywhere else when she’s already struggling to pay her tuition.
There is, at least, one bright spot to the whole thing that makes it all worth.  That would be the mechanic himself, one James Buchanan ‘Bucky’ Barnes.  Jane is not ashamed to admit that she’s more than once peeked out the window to watch him work under the hot sun, all sweaty with his shirt off.  The fact that he’s so sweet and charming in addition to being ridiculously hot just drives her nuts.  Someday, she knows, she’ll have the courage to ask him out.  Or at least talk to him for more than five seconds at a time.
It would be great, because she’s still trying to get over her last relationship, if you could even call it that.
See, about a year ago, Jane attended class with this one annoying guy who was not only an ass, but also liked to think he was smarter than her.  He wasn’t, of course, though he was smarter than everyone else in the class, including probably the teacher.  His name was Loki Odinson.  He was the son of a billionaire well on his way to a lofty position in his daddy’s company.  Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he’d probably never work a real day in his life and would go on having everything handed to him and being the good obedient second son that she’s pretty sure he’s always been.
I mean yeah, there’s that rumor that he ran away when he was in his late teens and just completely disappeared off the face of the earth until suddenly popping back up three years later, but even if that was true, Jane doubts it would mean anything.  He was probably just on a private island somewhere the whole time.
Anyway, Jane ended up having to work with him on a big final project at the end of the semester.  Of course, they started fighting almost immediately because of course, Loki took every opportunity to be an ass and antagonize her for his own sick pleasures.
Of course, this led to many instances of wild sex on the couch or the table or occasionally a bed, but that didn’t mean anything.  Preppy pretty boy or no, Loki was extremely handsome and an amazing lover.  He could keep up with her intellectually and after a while, she’s able to recognize that his many snide remarks are just his weird way of flirting with her, and maybe she actually likes their little snarkfests.  It certainly keeps things interesting.
Then the day of graduation comes, and Loki completely ignores her.  He never looks at her once, and he blows off dinner with her (their first ‘official’ date).  He only tells her later that he enjoyed their many romps in the sack but it’s probably time to move on now to other things.
Jane is pissed, and she shows it with her words and her hand on his face.  She runs home shocked at how miserable being dumped by a fuckbuddy makes her feel.  Because maybe, just maybe, she really was starting to feel something more…
But that was then, and this is now.  Now, there’s a guy who actually isn’t an elitist douche.  A guy whom she comes to find, after working up the nerve to talk to him, is extremely interested in her field of study, even if he doesn’t know much about it himself.  Jane finds herself going over to Bucky’s garage more and more.  They talk about everything well into the night and until the sun comes up.  He might not be able to discuss complex astrophysical equations with her like Loki did, but he listens to everything she says, he asks questions, he takes book recommendations from her and actually reads the books.  In return, she starts learning more about his hobbies.  They ride around on his motorcycle.  Jane quickly gets over her fear of falling off thanks in part to getting to hold onto him and wrap her arms around his stomach (and holy shit his abs are amazing…).
It seems like they’re well on their way to a new romance blooming… and then Jane goes into one of her doctorate classes on day, and is horrified to find a brand new student sitting in the chair next to hers.
“Hello there, Jane,” Loki says.  “Fancy seeing you here.”
Jane doesn’t know what the hell to do, and no matter how many times Loki smugly denies it, she just knows he bribed his way into her class just to get under her skin.  She doesn’t understand why when he’s the one who dumped her, but it’s too late for her to transfer to another professor’s class and there’s no way she’s dropping.  Loki, the bastard, surely knows this.
But it’s okay, because Jane has a new guy now, one a thousand times the man Loki Odinson will ever be.  And she’d happy flaunt it in Loki’s stupid face, but Bucky… he hasn’t been himself lately.
A good friend of his in the biker scene was recently found dead, and there are strong indications that it wasn’t an accident.  For a while now, Jane’s been hearing stories about this old gang from a few years back.  They were infamous and had ties to several unsolved murders before up and disappearing one day as the members either died or were arrested on lesser charges.  Now, it seems, the remnants of the HYDRA gang are coming back.
Jane tries to ask Bucky about it, but he’s very adamant about not knowing about it.
“I’ve got nothing to do with that,” he says.  “I’m just a mechanic.”
Okay, that’s not a suspiciously specific denial.  So Jane goes to do a little research of her own.  She chats with a few local bikers, the nicer ones who are just big teddy bears and also pretty loose lipped after one or two drinks.  That’s when Jane gets the real story behind her mild mannered mechanic friend.
It seems that some years ago, there were two bikers roaming the streets who were sort of like vigilantes.  Together, they took down ten gangs (that is the number confirmed at least and rumor has it the real number is upwards of fifty).  They weren’t just bikers, but also skilled fighters who could take down twenty men on their own with ease.  One of them, a cold, silent figure, was known on the streets as ‘Winter Soldier’.
Apparently, he had once been forced into the HYDRA gang as a getaway driver in order to protect his family and his best friend, who was very sickly and lived with them following the deaths of his parents.  For over a year, he participated in unspeakable crimes at their behest.  Much as it pained him, he had no choice if he wanted to secure his family’s safety.
One day, he made a mistake, and one of HYDRA’s most valuable members was shot down by the police because of his error.  The next day, the entire Barnes household went up in flames with everyone inside.  Filled with rage, Winder Soldier swore avenge them and everyone else who had suffered at HYDRA’s hands.  He would hunt down and kill every last one of them if it took him the rest of his life
Unfortunately for him, HYDRA went into hiding afterwards to regroup, and Winter Soldier had no idea where they had gone.  While hunting a possible lead one night, the story goes that he happened upon another biker.  This one didn’t have a grudge against HYDRA, but he was intrigued by Winter Soldier’s purpose.  He agreed to help him capture and interrogate his target.  Through their combined efforts, they managed to extract all necessary information, and thus, a new partnership was born.
Now, very little was known about this other biker.  Some say he was the son of a crime boss who had been adopted by a wealthy family, only to discover his origins and track down his real father to kill him.  Since the boss’s name was Laufey, his supposed son and killer earned the moniker, Laufeyson.
Together, Winter Soldier and Laufeyson were a fierce and unstoppable duo.  They say that Laufeyson had the sharp, silvertongue of a snake while Winter Soldier did all the physical work, but others claim that the Soldier was a natural charmer and that Laufeyson could break someone’s arm like it was a toothpick.
For three years, they roamed the streets, until all the major crime rings in the area were defeated, and then, as quickly as they came, they vanished.  To this day, no one knows what happened to Winter Soldier and Laufeyson.
Jane hears this story and doesn’t know what to think.  Could it be that her friend Bucky is the Winter Soldier?  She knows that he doesn’t have any family, and she’s seen his pictures with that old friend of his, Steve.  Could it be that they were all really killed by a crime ring and that he’d killed them in return?
And what about Laufeyson?  Whatever happened to him?
Jane starts to go home for the night, only to be ambushed by a group of men in black.  They drag her screaming into the street.  Men in coats with hydras drawn on surround her.
‘So you’re their little girlfriend,’ one says.
Their?  What does that mean?
Before Jane can speak, one of the men slumps over, bleeding from the side of the head.  Instantly, another man wrapped in shadow jumps into battle with the HYDRA goons, taking them all down one by one until no one is left standing.  The last one to fall manages one word before losing consciousness.
“Laufeyson…”
So this is him then.  This is Laufeyson.  Somehow, he came back just to save her from certain death.
But it can’t be, can it?  Why after all this time would he come back?  Did Bucky know about this?
“Come with me,” he says softly.  It sounds like he’s disguising his voice.  He has a mask on, so Jane can’t see his face.  She takes his hand and lets him lead her to his bike.  He’s not wearing any gloves, so his bare skin touches her.
He drives her home.  She hadn’t given him directions.  He lets her off and speeds away.  Jane watches him go.  She looks at Bucky’s shop across the street, but all the lights are off and he’s probably home by now.  It doesn’t matter.  Jane already has an answer to her biggest question of the evening, even if she can scarcely believe it to be true.
Because his hands.  She’d know those hands anywhere.
She can’t even look Loki in the eye the next day.
The scary thing is that the more she thinks about it, the more sense it makes.  She looks into the crime reports from the years Winter Soldier and Laufeyson were active, and yup, they coincide exactly with the years Loki was missing.  He had always seemed remarkably strong and agile for a spoiled ‘no day job’ rich guy.  He’d known the streets better than she had despite not growing up on them.  HYDRA started popping up right around the time of their graduation.  Did it make sense that he’d think playing the asshole to break her heart would keep her out of harm’s way?  Yeah, it kind of did.
So if Bucky is Winter Soldier, and Loki is Laufeyson, and HYDRA is coming back and rebuilding their crime organization, what does that mean for Jane?
Well eventually, it means waking up in the middle of the night to a chloroform rag pressed against her nose.  It means waking up again in an underground bunker somewhere, caged up as bait for the two men she loves most in the world.
It means that Bucky will be in his garage, with a crumpled photo of Jane bound and blindfolded next to the unmarked envelope it came in.  He’s tearing everything apart in impotent rage because again.  It’s happening again.  HYDRA, those monsters, they’re going to take away another person he loves.  Just when he thought he was free and all of them were gone and he could build a new life with the girl of his dreams.
A shadow appears over his head.  He swings his fist around, but the punch is stopped by a hand closing around his.  Loki smiles at him.
“You haven’t lost your touch, James,” he says.
Bucky twists his hand away.  “What the hell are you doing here?”
“Now, don’t be like that.  We’re friends.”
“I have bigger things to worry about right now than you.”
Loki’s face darkens.  “You mean this?”  And he holds up the exact same photo of Jane.
“Where did you get that?” Bucky demands.
“Same place as you I assume.”
“Why would they send it to you?”
Loki chuckles. “Come now, didn’t Jane mention me?  I believe it would’ve been in the context of, ‘that bastard ex who broke my heart’.”
Bucky’s eyes widen.  “That was you?”
“It appears we share a lot more than a dark and dirty past, my friend,” Loki says solemnly.  “We have a very similar taste in women.”
Bucky shakes his head.  Runs a hand through his hair.  It’s getting too long, but Jane always liked it that way.  “What the hell are we going to do?”
“Same thing we always do,” says Loki.  “We’re going to find our enemy and destroy them, and we’re going to save our Jane.  And we’re going to make sure that this time, when we cut their heads off, nothing takes their place.”
He’s smiling again, a bloodthirsty grin Bucky knows too well, and one he is happy to return.  He goes to the corner where there’s a blanket over an ‘old bike’ of his.  He pulls it off and brushes dust away from the red star logo on the side.
“You kept your bike, right?” asks Winter Soldier.
“What sort of fool do you take me for?” says Laufeyson.
They rise again.
**
Aaaand that had absolutely nothing to do with your title at all, did it?.  Oh well.  Sorry about that.
