Shattered Glass (Old Mirror)

It just….didn't feel real. 

The way that the bullets flew through you as you protected your friend

(Did you go drinking or something? you can't recall)

None of the assault felt like they actually hit you

Until one lands directly in your abdomen.

A flurry of pain and electric signals as your body finally registered what was happening to you, hit you like a truck! 

You fell to the ground, twitching and spasming violently as you heard the commotion above you. You're friend was freaking out and the guys were shouting loudly.

As your vision started to go out, you managed to register your friend's face, their forehead to your's

You tried to reach out despite the burning agony, to hold her hand, comfort her, anything to dry her tears. But your body refused to move, you trying over and over again until you felt something solid in front of you. You ran your hands along it. 

You could feel cracks. Weaknesses in the wall. 

You started pounding it, not giving up. You could hear sirens, can't give up! The wall cracked some more, making you determined to continue. You could feel the wall shatter like glass, some shards cutting your cheek and hands.

All of a sudden you're sucking in a deep breath, coughing the dusty air almost immediately. 

You were alive! But….where are you…? The place looked dead and abandoned, grafitty and the occasional broken thing here and there. 

You think the part that REALLY sent you reeling was how covered in moss and flora this place was/had become. 

How did you even get here?? Last thing you remembered you were walking with your friend when-!!!

That's right, your friend! A worried sound escaped your throat. You hope she's ok! She was never really good with loss and dealing with people…

Your train of thought was quite quickly interrupted as you started hearing whispers and mutters nearby. You look around cautiously, wondering who in their right minds would be caught dead in this place.

Your eyes landed on who seem to be a pair of twins peeking around the corner, one holding what you recognize as a giant camera often used for movies or news reporters, and the other holding a microphone looking at you like they didn't trust you after you did something wrong.

But you just got here? How come you're already suspicious?

You offer a confused but friendly wave to them and the muttering only picked up. You could hear a couple of things like "the suspicious mirror person" and a question like "what is their ulterior motive??"

You go to clear your throat, attempting to speak and catching the twins attention 

"I….don't really have a motive? I mean-if i had one, I don't know?"

You offer a confused shrug and the one holding the microphone squints his eyes at you.

"How does Jim know, Jim can trust mirror spook?"

You bring a hand to your chin with an unsure hum. Dang, you're not sure how to continue. Maybe you can convince them to take you with them somehow?

"I…..I can make hot chocolate?"

"....go on?"

"I-I can cook! I'm a pretty decent chef with a lot of thing! A-and that's not all I'm good for! I know a lot of things about the wild plants and flora! A-and things you probably haven't even thought of yet! Including the secret of the chicken!"

The twins looked at each other at the last part, seeming to seriously consider what you just said 

"Give Jim a moment!"

The twins disappeared behind the corner they were hiding behind and you could hear a hushed conversation just quiet enough to be difficult to make out. 

You surveyed your surroundings a little more as you waited, admiring some flowers when the twins appeared again.

"Say what IS the secret of the chicken?"

You giggle slightly and lean in a little, making spooky fingers

"They're really blood thirsty monsters out to kill us all!"

The twins gasped

"I knew it!!"

You smiled but you kind of frowned after you realized that you gave away your bargaining chip. 

Surprisingly it seems that they hadn't noticed!

"Alright Mirror Spook! We're upgrading ypu to Friend of Jim! We're currently investigating the spooks of this house!"

"This house huh?"

You hummed, taking a better look around. Everything just looks so familiar. You think you know this place from the "who killed markiplier" series. You smirked, oh the irony

"I heard a mad man messed with something he shouldn't have and ended up killing his friends and family because of it!"

"Woah….what kind of things?"

The twins, who you've finally recognized as the Jim twins from Markiplier's egos have seems to have warmed up to you enough to be no longer hiding from behind the corner of the rotting old house. You found yourself smiling gleefully

"I hear it was voodoo and a deal with a being that latched itself onto the mansion itself"

Look….just because you're dumb….doesn't mean you're stupid. You've seen the videos that gave you stories to scare people with and lessons that you've listened and learned from. 

But if someone starts calling you the DA. You might have a problem.

Eventually the Jims had gathered enough footage of me telling ghost stories and showing the Jims around the manor itself, pretty much bull crapping the whole way through the tour as I had little knowledge of the giant manor outside of the wkm videos.

The Jim's didn't seem to mind though, as soon I was being driven away from that horrid place in the Jim's ride. I sighed to myself in relief as I saw it shrink in the distance. 

"So, friend of Jim! Mind if we called you MirrorJim?"

"Huh? Oh! No, I don't mind actually!"

Rather fitting tbh!

You leaned over to the front seat, addressing the Jim that wasn't driving.

"So Jim! What's the place you're staying at like?"

"It's HUUUGE!!! Many Jim live in manor, even some spooky Jims like yourself live there!"

"Spooky Jims??"

"Yeah yeah like the Glitch spook and the Static Spook!"

Static? Like on a TV….?

"What are they like?"

The camera Jim cringed

"Grumpy. They don't like each other and I think Glitch spook doesn't like anybody while the Static spook just seems to be angry all the time!"

The mic Jim spoke up

"Jim has seen Static Spook talking to himself before….in a mirror"

What is with him and mirrors..?

"Static spook was shouting too, like he expected an answer. I almost asked him what that was about before Jim decided that was a bad idea."

"Yeah, good idea. If anything, I can ask! I'm pretty good with people if I do say so myself!"

The Jims looked at each other before the one with the camera asked if you were completely sure about that, as even they didn't know if that was a good idea. You just waved them off

"Worse that happens is I'm scarred for life and avoid him for the rest of my living years!"

The Jims glanced at each other before giving in. All they can really do is warn you a couple of thousand times before you do something stupid and then record you doing said stupid thing. 

It's not like they could actually stop you after all. 

You arrived at the manor, you almost immediately getting a bad feeling about the place. It's different than the cursed one sure, yeah ok you were just in a haunted looking one. But this one….it sends a chill up your spine

The car was parked, you hesitating before deciding this was stupid and stepped out of the car. Nothing immediately happened and you released a nervous sigh. 

"Is MirrorJim ok?"

You looked to see MicJim, the one that was driving. looking at you, having noticed the nervous energy radiating off of you

"Just a little nervous. Believe it or not, This Spook has a bit of social anxiety"

You chuckled a little and the Jim nodded along

"Not to worry MirrorJim! The Jims are more in number than the spooks so if something goes wrong, we can outnumber them!"

That…...almost doesn't help. You smile anyways

"Thanks Jim."

The three of you got in through the back way since there was a door in the garage you parked in. You followed the Jims as quietly as you could as they tiptoed around the giant manor, recording everything they could. 

Things were going pretty good until the Jims opened the wrong door and pissed someone off. Apparently the Jims had confused their video room with Marvin's meditation room! 

"RUN!!!"

The three of you started screaming as you ran in the opposite direction of the room, angry shouting could be heard from the room.

"Quick Jim the squeaker!!!"

Squeaker? The CameraJim dug in his pockets before taking out a dog toy and squeaking it.

"Hold on MirrorJim!"

"Hold onto WHAT?"

Heavy footsteps shook the floor as all of a sudden a GIANT dog came running down the hall. You screamed but the Jim held no fear as they hopped onto the dog's back, dragging you with them as the dog continued to run around the halls randomly. 

You were screaming the entire time. Honestly the fear of falling off might overweigh the fear of confrontation. 

Eventually the screaming turned into nervous giggling, this was actually kind of fun if you ignored just about everything about the ride itself!

You passed many halls, including the living room and then the kitchen. You saw many egos, most of them you recognized to be either Jacksepticeye's or Markiplier's. There were also some random people there but the more you think about it, the more you think they were pizza delivery people. 

You wondered if they were having pizza tonight? 

A sharp whistle caught all of your attention as the dog suddenly turned around, heading to the beckoning call of her master

"Not good Jim! We need to get off!"

"What's wrong?"

"Static spook must've saw us! Abort mission!!"

"Wait WHAT?!"

You screamed once more as the Jims hopped off the dog, dragging you with them

"GIVE ME SOME KIND OF WARNING NEXT TIME. PLEASE!!!"

"Sorry MirrorJim! We had to act fast if we wanted MirrorJim to be a surprise!"

"You don't think the surprise was ruined if EVERYONE saw us riding the dog just now, do you?"

A familiar voice rang out down the hall, you turning around to see a face you didn't think would be so gosh darn happy to see you like an old friend.

BACKSTORY

haneul madison ko was born september 18, 1999 to two immigrant parents from S.K. her birth name is haneul, but she went by the name madison since it was easier to pronounce + madi began to almost detest her culture??

it was just that growing up she would sometimes get bullied for looking different at her school, for the way her packed lunches smelled/looked, the way people would stare if she spoke korean to her parents, how other kids would make fun of her english since she didn’t pick up on vocab/grammar as quickly since she didn’t practice at home with her parents. she just became SO insecure about it that she rejected her culture. she wouldn’t bring her mom’s food to school, if her mom ever forced her to take it she’d throw it away  and choose to starve instead. she wouldn’t speak korean back to her parents in public, barely even in private (which reeaaallly upset her parents). this also REALLY destroyed her korean language skills. she can understand still, but she can barely hold a basic conversation anymore.

as she grew up, and continued this sense of distancing herself from her culture, she ultimately distanced herself from her family. which left her feeling -  - alone often, even though it was all due to her own choices. in this loneliness, she found her escape in music. she would wear headphones constantly through the halls, in car rides, in her room when her parents yelled at her to turn the music down. she just loved music. she saved up the money her parents gave her whenever she worked at the nail salon (her parents owned it!!) to thrift an old keyboard. she became self-taught by trying to copy melodies of songs she’d listen to, thrifting piano lesson books, staying after school with the music teacher learning to play. sometimes she’d even skip lunch to sit in the chorus room with her choir director and play.

it’s not that she had a LACK of friends growing up, maybe just that she lacked a best friend. she had a lot of friends, but no one that she felt so connected to in the way she felt connected to music. perhaps, she was addicted to her loneliness.

she spent a lot of time playing the piano and dabbling in writing music that her grades started to fall (not that she was ever the BEST student) and her parents literally took away her piano. they said it was a waste of time because they wanted her to focus on doing well, so she could get into a good university, and then live a good life. music was just a distraction

but that didnt work

she would sneak out into the city to go to concerts and poetry readings. she’d sneak out and go to indie songwriters scenes while her parents thought she was at the library with one of her school friends

This underground scene had her full heart!! she was surrounded by likeminded people who just lived for music. she was hearing all of these incredible people who were all looking for their start. maybe not looking for anything at than just to sing their songs. tbh i think this was the point she was happiest. she was completely enveloped in music, just for the sake of music. There wasn’t any pressure, just music. Just the songs. she was wide eyed looking at this whole underground scene of artists. So maybe some plots from these underground charas?!

she’d perform some songs at karaoke nights and the indie sessions, and a producer took a keen interest in one of her songs. basically im kind of stealing halsey’s career start, but she posted a song Came in Close on SoundCloud and just blew up overnight. in the morning, she woke up to a record label asking her to fly to LA for a meeting.

and thus, Madison Ko began a career as Madi Ko where she’d release her debut album, Honey, a few months later. (DISCOGRAPHY HERE). her music is very 80s synth inspired!

right off the bat, madi is an absolute firecracker!! she’s loud, bursting with personality, has a lack of inhibitions that CHAOTICALLY mixes with her spontaneity

part of this is projecting her insecurities. she felt lonely as a child but doesn’t want to be seen as that to the world. it’s not so much a persona but an exaggeration of who she was. 

she likes to show off her glam bc it, once again, hides her insecurities. 

she just kind of is dramatic anymore

like everything about her

her persona as Madi Ko, upcoming popstar underdog, is like DUNKED in glitter, over the top stages and sets, draped in couture. basically her stages/outfits/dances/mvs are like Chungha’s but with Pale Waves and Carly Rae Jepsen VC. ex: 1, 2, 3, 4

There was barely any light in the warehouse. It was to the point that it hurt Emerald's eyes to find one. But they didn't have much of a choice. Their closest possible place to rest and hide while on the run was there. No working lights, and too many candles would draw too much unwanted attention.

Emerald yawned, forcing her eyes open. Just why did she ask to take first watch instead of Cinder? She chastised herself on that decision. Of course, she was happy to serve Cinder with favors like this. But a nap sounded pretty good right about then.

Clink—

The sound caught Emerald off guard. As well as the hushed cursing that followed.

It took Emerald an approximate minute to remember, but then it hit her. Mercury. She let out a quiet sigh of relief, glad she didn't have to fight anything while she was this sleepy.

Where was he anyway?

Clink—

Emerald shook her head, relief shifting into mild annoyance. Judging from the sound of falling gears, he probably screwed up trying to fix his legs.

Time to follow the cursing.

It's only been a week since the day they recruited him. In front of his house set to fire and the battered corpse of his father (the initial recruit). Mercury's legs were injured to the point of no recovery, yet he remained standing. Well, as much standing as he could physically pull off.

Emerald would never admit it, but she had a large amount of respect for him. He was clearly a formidable opponent.

At the end of the hall, she spotted an open door and dim orange light spilling out of it.

"Guess I found him then.."

Clank—!

"Ah, mcfuck nuggets."

What Emerald would admit though, was that most of the time, he was a big, annoying baby.

She peeked into the room from the doorframe. And there he was; his form tinted like a sunset in the candlelight.

Emerald sighed through her nose, seeing that his leg rolled to a farther corner of the room.

"Need any help?" she deadpanned.

Mercury flinched, looking up. A scowl painted his face upon seeing her.

"Could you not?"

Emerald snorted, leaning her side against the doorframe.

"If that's how it is, you'll be getting no help from me."

Mercury looked away. He shifted his position so he was facing the direction of his fallen leg. "Yeah. Don't need it."

"Uh huh, keep going."

Mercury looked at the prosthetic. It was just within arm's reach. He blinked at it for a second, as if realizing that he might not actually be able to reach that far. But there was no way he was letting her see that he needed her help. She was already smug and full of herself without the ego boost.

But then again, with his other foot deactivated and unable to work without the other.. He didn't have many options. So the hard way it was.

Awkwardly, he bent forward, keeping one hand on his knee to keep himself steady. His fingertips managed to brush against the heel, bringing a slight smirk to his face.

Hah. Who's the idiot now—

And he pushed it.

Mercury froze. Then reached further, trying to get a hold of it again. His efforts were worse than futile though, since every time he could actually get it, it just rolled away.

"You're not messing with my head to make fun of me, are you?"

Emerald raised a brow. "Hey, I'm not that brutal!"

Mercury sighed through his nose, eyeing her suspiciously. After a few beats, he turned away and went back to the leg.

Emerald rolled her eyes, walking over and picking up the prosthetic. She turned it over in her hands, observing it.

"Okay, that's enough, give it back!" Mercury exclaimed.

"Hush, child, it hasn't been five seconds."

He muttered a curse under his breath, propping his elbow on his knee to lean on.

Emerald finally looked up at him.

"Not entirely finished, I'm guessing?" she tilted her head. "I mean, I'm no expert, but there isn't much to cover the insides yet. Right?"

She looked away for a second. When she looked back, she held the leg out for him to take.

"Though, I gotta say. It's pretty cool. Even like this." she added.

Mercury gave her a questioning look, then hesitantly took back his foot. He turned it around in his hands and checked the inside. As if she could've messed with it somehow. Then he looked at her again.

Emerald raised her eyebrows in a question.

"Did you hit your head or something?" Mercury asked.

"Excuse me?"

"Do you owe me or something? Did Cinder tell you to do it?"

"Owe you? What are you talking about?"

"Why are you being so.." he drew out the silence, realizing just how awkward this conversation would be. ".. Nice?"

Emerald snorted, a grin lingering. "What? Dude. I literally just gave you back your foot. What do you take me for? Some brat? What would I even do with your foot?"

Her snickers grew as she spoke. Mercury's annoyed yet flustered look didn't help him at all. He just earned long fits of laughter.

But he watched her closely, noticing her eyes tear up from how hard she was laughing. Her hand clutched her stomach until it dissolved into slow giggles.

It was refreshing to see her smile like this. Usually, she'd flash him looks of annoyance or confusion. Or smug amusement when she beats him at anything. But honestly, he wanted her to smile like this much more often.

Emerald dabbed at her tears, wiping them away. She still had a grin plastered to her face.

"Though, honestly, I think we should start actually liking each other." she said.

"Why?"

She rolled her eyes. "Because, dumbass. We're partners now. And if we don't get at each other's throats every five seconds, I think we'd actually work nicely together."

Mercury stared at her, like it was a new concept to 'work as friends'.

Then she smiled again, and he suddenly didn't find the idea so bad.

"You need help with that leg? My shift's almost over, and it'll be your turn."

Mercury considered, but shook his head.

Emerald shruged. "Alright, then. I'll meet you downstairs."

"Yeah."

"See ya, partner."

Mercury looked up and watched her leave.

Lyrics saying, “thought we were going strong, I thought we were holding on.” Which really hits home for me. And as a verse says, “We could’ve been the greatest thing that the world has ever seen.” In the end, one direction adds some hope to their lyrics, “So don’t let it go, we could live forever.”

^ This one, it really gets the water works going. Not only does this song highlight the Denial part of grieving a relationship, it also envisions how hard a break up can be, with a life on the road. In this song, he says “It was never fine to lose you.” While also saying “I don’t love you baby, I don’t need you baby.” Contradicting himself, as we all do when we go through a break up. He also says “Our love just lost the will to live.” This song speaks about how hard it was for Ed Sheehan, and how one must remain preoccupied during heart break. “I’ve given up my days off.” The strongest part of this song, for me at least, is when Ed Sheeran says “I guess I lied in the Hook, cause I still love you and I need you by my side if I could.” Highlighting how hardest part of a breakup is not only loosing the person you loved, but their affection and support. Not to mention he sings, “If my career and music didn’t exist, in six years,yeah you’d probably be my wife with a kid.” Destroying the future. In the end, Ed Sheeran gives us hope, “Eventually I’ll be fine, I know it was never meant to be, either way I guess I’m not prepared but I’ll say this, these things happen for a reason and you can’t change them.” And so, one of the best break-up songs for me to cope with emotions.

^ This song was released the exact same day my heart got broken. I’ve loved post Malone since the beginning, but this song was SO PARTICULAR to my relationship, it was AMAZING. I always asked my Ex to change small things, rather than praising his big things. “She need something to change.” Was so particular to our relationship, and that stunned me. After a few days, I began singing “ I want you out of my head, I want you out of my bedroom.” It was the hardest thing to let go of him not being with me because, he was always! And the sex we had was just amazing, and I mean that in an emotional way. The connection was there...so I’m being haunted by the memories of us in my bedroom. “We both acting insane, but too stubborn to change.” Stubbornness, one of the top reasons why my relationship ended. I was so stubborn on my boyfriend changing, that I never really thought about changing myself and my attitude. “Say you needed this heart and you got it, turns out that it wasn’t what you wanted.” WOW. The only time I ever see my ex now is either when he’s active on Instagram or when he posts on his car page. In which I’m hoping I get his attention to see this blog buuut I know it won’t so we’re just going to write for Haydee :) anywho! This song conveys how hard it is to have a relationship that goes from great to bad. And in all honesty, he says “It took us over being over to see all I ever did for you.” And that’s true, I didn’t realize all the amazing things Brian did until, of course, it was too late. “Let’s not ever disrespect what I meant to you.” Is something that I really hope sticks with me. I meant a lot to him and he meant a lot to me too. ^This song is a very good pop song, not going to lie. But this song is kinda a stinger! I used to think that Brian and I would be each other’s end game, his A-team, and first string. I also thought of this lyrics so much while we were dating, “I don’t want to be, just another ex love (you don’t want to see) I don’t want to miss you, like the other girls do.” It’s a harsh reality in which we face life and become aware of the crude reality that people don’t really love you. My ex totally just used me to lose his virginity tbh 🙄. I did appreciate the love though.

Small thing, but also as an aro I appreciate them introducing platonic soulmates (still to torture but I'll take it).

Sorry ran out of room haha, just after I said I wouldn’t gush too much. Anyway, the episodes were funny and clever as always, full of well-placed references to S1 (I’m thinking of one with Chidi that still makes me giggle). And I was really not expecting where the episode ended up. So yeah, that’s it for my report haha, but I’ll be checking back if there’s anything that stuck out or if you watch them and find stuff you love/dislike/want to talk about as well. :D             

OKAY! So, true to my word (and despite the fact that I worked an 18 hour shift between yesterday afternoon and this morning), I came straight home and watched the premiere of season two of The Good Place.

I’m super excited about the fact that all four of our main characters (and Janet tbh) still feel something about each other, and I’m honestly really interested in why Janet brought Jason to Eleanor straight away - does this mean that her second reboot instilled her with enough knowledge to realize that Jason’s questions would be answered by meeting Eleanor privately? Does she remember more than she lets on about the first go-around (because we can only be 100% certain that Michael has been erasing the main four characters’ memories each time)?

Omfg, Chidi and his stupid almond milk issue. And I can’t believe Tahani got drunk off her ass in Eleanor’s place and made such a rich fool of herself. Such a stark difference from season one, though her ego when she has her intro scene with Michael about making it to the good place at all is just perfect. Lol.

I’m glad they sped up the second go-around of this fake good place plan though tbh. I remember at the end of season one feeling like, Wait, what happens now? They go through all the same motions? We have to go a whole nother season waiting for these characters to band together and figure it out?? And now we also see that Mastermind Michael is looking to be in pretty hot water too with his boss so I can’t help wondering how long he’ll get to keep playing with his little toys before Shawn gets wise about his insubordination…

The reviewer whose article I read online (right before you’d started sending me your asks about the second season) said that they’d already seen the next episode and, to quote their reaction, “OH MY GAWD!” so… good things, it seems like! Lol.

I’m really glad for the specific mention of “platonic soulmates” too. Truthfully, I had felt that something really lacking the first season was non-hetero/non-romantic soulmate examples. I’m still waiting for a LGBT+/poly/etc-friendly one myself. (I had seriously wondered if Gunnar/Antonio were supposed to be soulmates because they seem so intimately close/glued at the hip when they’re first introduced in Flying but it’s never actually touched on in the canon.)

Also, just a quick thanks to you, anon, for sending me these asks at all! I’ve been steadfastly keeping my eye on the season premiere dates for all my currently-airing favorite shows - Brooklyn 99, The Good Place, Bob’s Burgers, Fresh Off the Boat - and, having noticed that TGP was the first one to get their season premiere, I’d already been rewatching season one to freshen up my knowledge before you sent me your asks about season two. It was a real treat to learn that you got yourself invested in the show because you saw the GIFsets I had been reblogging, and always fun to have someone to talk to about a rare interest.

Here’s hoping we get to talk some more! If I missed a specific point you wanted my opinion on, I’m sorry, I’ve been up for about 24 hours now and I’m, um, pretty dead. Yeah. Pretty dead. I’ll be hitting up the bad place pretty soon myself if I don’t go get some sleep. Hehe.
