Criminal Minds s03e19 Tabula Rasa - or more aptly named, compassionate Reid and amazing Hotchner and Shemar Moore with hair is the most amazing thing ever. And Penelope, of course, my baby girl, will never cease to amaze me.
Episode 19 – Tabula Rasa
Hey guys! One episode away from the season three finale! Who’s excited? ME EXCITED!
All righty, then, so the episode’s name is so common I can’t even fathom what it could mean. Tabula Rasa means clean slate, meaning it has to do with someone’s history – whether it’s on eof our superheroes’ or one of the unsubs featured, is unclear. And I hate when they do that.
All right, let’s see what happens.
Why are we going back to 2004?
Tumblr media
Oh my god!!!! Derek circa 2004 is so cute! But it’s like only four years ago. I don’t care. Awwww!
Tumblr media
And so is Hotch. Aww.
Tumblr media
Shemar is so fucking hot right now. I can’t physically take it.
Tumblr media
Spiderman-Shemar <3
Tumblr media
Whoa. So they were after this Brian Matloff guy, and he literally jumped between buildings’ roofs thinking it would work? I mean, he’s literally clinging onto life right now.
NO! SHEMAR NO!
Tumblr media
Oh my baby boy!
Tumblr media
Whoa. Wait. So they just showed this asshole seeing his whole life pass before his eyes before h hit the pavement and went kersplat?
Powerful.
How the fuck is he still alive??????
I mean, that guy is right, not for long, but it’s impressive.
Oh my baby boy! Don’t hurt yourself over assholes, don’t. Okay? Just don’t.
Tumblr media
And we’re back in the now
Tumblr media
So, Penelope and Spencer are sitting in the bullpen, discussing something that is extremely tragic from the eighties.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then,
Tumblr media
You see that was true tragedy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s so cute how she’s trying to deny it.
Tumblr media
“Oh, no, pussycat. That’s all you. Garfield High, class of ’89.” XD I love it!!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
“You’re seriously trying to tell me you don’t remember rocking that look?”
Tumblr media
Wait. So that guy was in a come for four years, and he woke up? WHOA. Impressive.
And they can’t even try him? He’s got amnesia? Well, that’s convenient. Damn.
Anatole France: “All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves. We must die to one life before we can enter another.” I think I’m too tired to understand this shit. I’ll try and get it tomorrow. Let’s move on.
Oh boy. Their only witness died two years ago. Damn.
Back to four years ago.
“This is our newest agent, Dr. Spencer Reid.”
“Jarvis. A little young, aren’t you? No offense.”
“None taken.”
Tumblr media
I love you for taking the higher ground, baby boy.
“In fact, neural processing speeds reach their maximum at around age 15, so when it comes to being affected by crime scenes and other graphic visual input, we’re all really the same age.”
Oh honey, I love so freaking much.
And can we just admit that Shemar in a suit should be illegal?
Tumblr media
So Reid just volunteered to talk to the father of the dead girl? Oh, you pretty angel.
Tumblr media
Pretty waterfall.
Back to the present.
So Matloff was into Native American mythology and took after the belief “that says burying a body facedown traps the soul and prevents it from haunting the killer”? DAMN. That is messed up, guys.
God. It’s so clear Derek is beating himself up about not solving the damn case. My lovely, don’t do this to yourself, you hear me?
Tumblr media
So now Aaron is filling them on the fact that the only witness they had is dead? Why now?
“There might be another way.”
Tumblr media
How?
Brain fingerprinting? So they’re going to pry into the dude’s mind? Oh boy.
So he wants to do the test? Oh boy. He’s seriously out of it. Oh boy.
“So, you don’t have any doubts about me, then, about me, who and what I am?”
Tumblr media
“No, I don’t.” Ooh, that is COLD, Aaron.
A lady named Nina Moore visited him every six months while he was in a coma? Oh boy.
You go investigate, JJ, and be careful.
Tumblr media
Damn. It didn’t show anything useful to convict Matloff. Shit.
“The DA isn’t requested to enter it into evidence.”
“No, but he can get it on discovery and you can bet he’s gonna use it.”
“And that’s why I distrust all technology.”
Tumblr media
I love David Rossi so much.
“It goes to the core arguments about the nature of identity. There’s a western philosophical concept, casual dependence, that says that a psychological connection to the past plays a key role in defining who we are.”
“Reid, what are you saying, that this guy shouldn’t be tried?” HEY! Why put words in my poodle’s mouth? Put your tongue to a better use, Morgan, go tongue Penelope.
Tumblr media
“I’m not saying that.” EXACTLY! He’s just quoting poor dead philosophers.
Tumblr media
I’m really terrified of this Nina now.
“Pseudo-science they call profiling.”
Wow.
It looks like they sprayed hair over his head. Oh my god, I’m sorry, but he looks like a male Barbie doll.
Tumblr media
Seriously, Morgan with hair is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.
Tumblr media
“Hey, what’s the new tech girl’s name?”
Tumblr media
“Uh … Gomez, I think.” WHAT? Eidetic memory and he gets the name wrong?
Tumblr media
“Excuse me, Gomez.”
Tumblr media
“Hey, baby girl.”
Tumblr media
“Baby girl?”
Tumblr media
“Forgive me. I just didn’t know the real …” can we just take the time to appreciate the fact that Derek just said ‘forgive me’? OH MY GOD! So gentleman!
Tumblr media
“I’ve been called worse.”
Tumblr media
And there it all began XD I love this scene so fucking much!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Of course it went well. I taught him everything he knows about giving testimony.”
Tumblr media
Oh Rossi.
So his real mommy came to see him? DAMN.
WHAT IS UP WITH HER HAIR? I LOVE IT!
Tumblr media
“Ma’am, I have all that.” Like, please give me useful shit.
Tumblr media
“Yes, I know what a closed adoption means.”
Tumblr media
“Do you know what a court order means?”
Tumblr media
“We don’t have time for court orders.”
Tumblr media
“Right, you know what, ma’am?”
“I am done being nice.”
Tumblr media
“If you look to your cursor, you’ll notice it’s moving on its own. That’s me hacking your secure network.”
Tumblr media
“Now I got her file, now I got her social,”
“And now, ‘cause you’re grumpy, I’m gonna send your boss those Jamaican vacation photos.”
Tumblr media
“Check you out – no tan lines.”
Tumblr media
Do NOT mess with Penelope Garcia.
Tumblr media
Lesson learnt.
Oh he did not just bring up the Olympic park bombings in Atlanta. Oh damn.
Tumblr media
So Aaron guessed the color of the counselor’s socks? DAMN.
Tumblr media
“You match them to the color of your suit to appear taller. You also wear lifts, and you’ve had the soles of your shoes replaced.”
Tumblr media
“One might think you’re frugal, but in fact, you’re having financial difficulties.”
Tumblr media
“You wear a fake Rolex because you pawned your real one to pay your debts. My guess is to a bookie.”
Tumblr media
“I took this case pro bono. I am one of the most successful attorneys in the state.”
“Your vice is horses. Your Blackberry’s been buzzing on the table every 20 minutes, which happens to be the average time between posts from Colonial Downs. You’re getting race results.”
Tumblr media
“And every time you do, it affects your mood in court, and you’re not having a very good day.”
Tumblr media
“That’s because you pick horses the same way you practice law – by always taking the long shot.”
Reid’s impressed.
Tumblr media
“If I’m not mistaken, the results form the fifth race should be coming through any minute. Why don’t you tell us if your luck has changed?”
Tumblr media
Oh honey, no!!!!! The dad of one of the victims is either going to kill Matloff or kill himself, oh my god. Please don’t.
Tumblr media
Wait what?
So Brian did contact his birth mother, he found her, but she didn’t want to have anything to do with him, because she had moved on.
That was clearly the stressor, as Rossi just pointed out.
But now Rossi thinks that Brian did press the issue? Why?
Tumblr media
How can Rossi know that he sent her gifts? Oh, he’s GOOD.
Tumblr media
What the fuck was that? Why was that girl actually awake after being in the dirt, assumed dead? What’s going on?
Oh god, Mr. Corbett is going to kill Matloff. Damn.
And of course, my poodle is perceptive as fuck and intercepted him. I love you.
Tumblr media
“You want him to suffer, but he’ll be dead. He won’t feel anything, you’ll be in prison,a nd you will regret it, believe me.” Ooh, forceful poodle.
Tumblr media
Why are you divulging pertinent case information to one of the victims’ father? That’s against protocol, baby! Don’t!
Tumblr media
Also, I want to fucking nibble on that tongue.
Tumblr media
Oh my god.
He sent her as gifts the jewelry he took from his victims? Oh shit, Brian, you sick asshole.
Wait. Brian was crying at the court?
He is starting to remember?
Oh fuck.
What’s going on?
Tumblr media
Oh shit. Matloff ran away.
Fuck.
I love how Reid is just trying to talk Hotch out of beating the crap out of the scumbag lawyer.
Tumblr media
Wait. He went back to the crime scene of Darci Corbett’s murder? Oh god.
And now he’s about to start again. Shit.
“Think he’s gonna shoot his way out?”
Tumblr media
“Well, I don’t want to be the only gun in there if he does.”
Tumblr media
Smart.
Tumblr media
Oh god. He confesses????
Oh my goodness.
Oh thank god it didn’t go any further.
“People’s emotional lives aren’t linear … to say that a killer’s conviction, one single event can just suddenly bring peace to a man, I don’t … I just don’t think it’s possible.”
Tumblr media
And people say my poodle can’t handle social situations well. He’s amazing.
Tumblr media
“Glory in a flower” and Reid doesn’t know where it’s from ? THAT is a first.
Tumblr media
William Wordsworth: “What though the radiance that was once so bright be now forever taken from my sight .. though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass, of cglory in the flower, we will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind.”
WOW.
Such a powerful episode. We got to see how everyone deals with things that haunt them. We got to see the origin of ‘baby girl’ and we got to see how compassionate Reid truly is, and how amazing everyone in our superhero team is. I just love every bit of this episode, except of course the actual murder. And I’m glad they showed that moment of repentance in the unsub, but I’m also kind of confused.
I don’t know.
Anyway, great episode.
Will leave the finale of season three for tomorrow, because, honestly? I just wanna take a shower and go to bed and work and earn money and come back for 24 hours of bliss. Okay? Awesome.
I’ll see you all next time, thank you for your amazing support, guys!
And of course, the remaining photos that weren’t in the post above of Derek and Spencer XD enjoy
<3

How Nike engineered its latest record-breaking marathon shoe
New Post has been published on https://nexcraft.co/how-nike-engineered-its-latest-record-breaking-marathon-shoe/
How Nike engineered its latest record-breaking marathon shoe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ran my first marathon this past fall. And, because I took a deep dive into the science and tech behind marathon training in the process, I wore what most would argue are among the fastest shoes on the market today: Nike’s Vaporfly 4%. So named for Nike’s claim that they make the wearer 4 percent more efficient as they run, the shoes have become equal parts envied and notorious. Runners want them—and hate them at the same time: The shoes are proven fast, their bright colors are sure to stand out (for better or worse), and they cost hundreds of dollars.
As of today, the shoes have now entered their third iteration. Nike has dubbed the new version, the Vaporfly Next%, implying that the gain in efficiency that any one runner gets isn’t stymied at four as with the previous version. Overall, the shoe has moderate tweaks to its design. Nike markets the racing kicks as a tool to help elite marathoners break the 2-hour marathon, a human potential barrier akin, in some ways, to the plight of the 4-minute mile of the 1950s. It does this by using an ultra-lightweight midsole with superior energy return (the boost you get from the foam springing back after each foot strike) and a carbon fiber plate, embedded in the shoe, that drives the runner forward. The newest version retains these elements, adds slightly more foam, and introduces a new outer material called the Vaporweave, which is meant to work out some of the kinks in the previous versions to help the shoe withstand the elements on race day.
For my marathon, I wore Nike’s first update after its initial release of the shoe—from the original (which came out in 2017) to include Nike’s Flyknit material. The updated upper made it lighter and is also supposed to fit like a sock.
Not going to lie, though, when I wore last year’s versions, the shoes hurt. Though I have no other marathons (and thus no marathon shoes) to compare to, at the end of my 26.2 mile jaunt, my right foot had cramped up severely and I literally wore a hole in my wool socks where the sock, shoe, and second biggest toe meet. I was also bleeding. Though I probably didn’t spend enough time breaking them in (I wore them twice prior to the race), my feet felt squished and my stride forced throughout the race and I never really could get on board with that sock-like feel of the Flyknit material.
In trying this new pair out, though it was only for a few miles yet, my feet felt far less squished and my stride more natural. Additionally, unlike last year’s Flyknit version of the Vaporflys, I felt like this material allowed me to lace up the shoes such that my feet felt secure and fitted. Here’s the rest of the updates, and why they were added.
A water-rebellious outer material
In the newest version, Nike replaced this fabric with what the company is calling Vaporweave. The material is lighter weight, more breathable, and absorbs less water. Because weight is such a major factor in creating racing shoes—studies show that, on average, every 100 grams of weight increases the metabolic cost of running by 1 percent—each drop of water a shoe takes in adds to the shoes’ overall mass. According to Nike, inspiration for the Vaporweave fabric came from the material used in racing sail cloths. That material needs to withstand wind and water, yet still remain pliant enough to twist and turn with the wind. While the material is, of course, propriety, one can guess it’s potentially of the polyester or kevlar variety, as these two materials are among the most water-phobic racing sail materials.
Even more energy-returning foam
There’s no question these shoes are fast. Independent testing done by a handful of researchers—as well as an investigative project out last summer by The Times that used public data through the fitness app Strava—have all validated the 4 percent gain in efficiency claim. Additionally, marathoners clearly like them. In 2017, 46 percent of the top three racers in World Major Marathons wore the Vaporfly racing shoes. In 2018, 63 percent did, and 58 percent of World Major Marathon winners wore the shoes. It’s important to note, though, that those runners were already among the top of their field, so much of an influence the shoes actually had on their winning performances is impossible to know. And there were plenty of winners and podium finishers who did not lace up in the Vaporfly shoes.
The million-dollar question, though, is where that speed comes from. Is it the carbon-fiber plate, the energy returning foam (which Nike calls ZoomX), or perhaps some synergistic combination of the two, where the sum is greater than the parts. I have a completely unscientifically-validated hunch that it could be the ZoomX midsole foam playing a large role. Nike’s Pegasus Turbo, which boasts the ZoomX foam sans the carbon-fiber plate has a similar energy-returning, bouncy feel. Nike’s added more of that foam to the underfoot of the shoe. This is meant, the shoe makers say, to redistribute the foam and create a more stable feel. It’s also just more energy-returning foam. And when literally wearing the shoe, this additional foam also made it far more comfortable to be in. Sometimes, the feel makes all the difference.
More traction
If you’ve ever looked at the bottom of the shoes, you’ll see that there’s just not much there. That’s said to keep the weight down, but it also prevents the shoes from having much, if any, traction, which for Vaporfly wearers presented a problem at Hurricane-esque marathons like the 2018 Boston race. To fix this, the Next% version has deeper grooves that help runners grip the ground during twists and turns throughout the race.
Will they make you faster?
The shoes are marketed toward elite marathoners chasing records. However, the vast majority of runners out there working hard at their own personal records don’t fit into that realm. And while there’s been some research on how much faster they can make people, there needs to be a lot more. But don’t let the shoe’s marketing fool you into thinking that this shoe is meant only for “fast runners.” At the same time, don’t let that same marketing fool your confidence: You don’t need them to be fast. For everyday runners, hard work and dedication, and a good training plan will allow your muscles and cardiovascular endurance to provide the bulk of the work. The sneakers are perhaps a boost.
When can I get it?
Limited amount of the shoes, which are priced at a steep $275, go on sale for Nike Run Club members in the United States only, via its app, on Sunday, April 28th. For everyone else, Nike only says that they will be available sometime this summer. Don’t worry, if you are running a fall marathon, you don’t need them until race day, anyway. Let your body do the work this summer.

HW5 proj
I split this assignment over a couple of days, I kept the first section intact for soucring but upon thinking about writing something involving this topic I found myself questioning things. Not the facts as I understand them, but my presentation of them and how people might interpret them.  I’m not afraid of being judged, but I want to reach people and not turn them away.  These days people only try to appeal to those like them, or like minded.  They alienate those who they disagree with.  That is a big problem in our country today, I found that out the hard way recently.
Anyway, HW5 proj is going to be split into two categories, simply labeled 1 and 2.  They are part of the same submission, I just wanted to be clear for the reader which came first.
1.)
I am dedicating my time to finding good sources for the stories that I have mentioned. That means finding sources to prove how the media lied or was incompetent in regard to Bret Kavanaugh, and the Covington Kids.
 https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/16/media/new-york-times-kavanaugh/index.html
I would not usually trust CNN, but upon reading this article I noted that it reflected reality. Though, it seemed to be missing the number 1 ciriticism and even seemed to place the blame on the Editor. Essentially the “journalists” who wrote the NYT article omitted key information, this CNN article attributes that to an accident or misunderstanding, but the truth is the journalists were selling a book about Kavanagh the same day they broke their story.  Which means they likely omitted key information all just to create buzz about their book.  They retracted the story two days later, but there were people who were still talking about Justice Kavanaugh as if he did it for the next week or so. “Fake news travels around the world before the truth has a chance to put their shoes on.”
Independent Journalist Tim Pool speaks about the NYT story:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWy4ovdgEow
In this video Tim talks about the original case with Ford, and how none of the witnesses she named corroborated her story.  Despite this, the Washington Post posted an article in 2018 that said Keyser said she believed Ford’s story.  (Keyser later said she was pressured behind the scenes to agree or bad rumors would be spread about her.)
This was quietly revealed in the book, “The Education of Bret Kavanaugh: An Investigation” which was authored by Robin Pagebrin and Kate Kelly.  Keyser was named as a witness by Christine Blassey Ford, but she claimed she had no knowledge of any sexual assault and said she did not believe Ford’s story.
The important thing to remember are the names Robin Pagebrin and Kate Kelly.  Why you ask?  Ha ha ha…The pair were the authors that broke the story about the “new allegations” against Bret Kavanaugh on September 14, 2019
Keep in mind, the NYT article was about a “new” allegation against Brett Kavanaugh, but the truth is it is also an old story, and the Washington Post had passed on the story over a year prior.  So, what did the NYT have to gain by posting the story?  In Tim’s own words: “Money”
Tim Pool’s video about the NYT retraction:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdqATTJi20c
  2.)
What comes next:
Upon reading this I started to have come concerns about my approach.  Really it is two things that are weighing heavy on my mind.  First, it is hard to talk about the media spreading lies and not come off like I am being condescending.  It has to do partially with the sheer volume of the mistruths being spread in media, but also with the hyper partisan nature of our country these days.  For example, it occurred to me that by merely pointing out how the NYT manufactured a old story that Washington Post passed on over a year prior just to sell a book I am going to be upsetting those who went all in believing Christine Blasé Ford. The facts turned against her, but even that part of the story doesn’t have anything to do with the NYT article I am referencing.  So to some, by pointing out the circumstances of the second story it may seem like I am trying to defend sexual assault or something.  That is harsh, because I absolutely in no way, shape, or form condone such behavior.
Secondly, and in reference again to the volume of mistruths, it would literally take hundreds of hours to address all of the mistruths to shape the larger picture.  To truly understand how bad journalism in America is right now, one would have to have knowledge of, and be accepting of the truth, of countless stories.
The newest mistruths being spread today have to do with Trump.  People are currently spreading that Trump said the Coronavirus was a hoax, but upon doing research into the matter I found that it started with CNN taking a quote from Trump out of context.  It is a coordinated effort too though because while this was going on, Twitter allowed the Biden campaign to publish a video clip that was made to show Trump saying the Coronavirus was a hoax.  The truth though, is that he was talking about the Democrats blaming Trump for the coronavirus was the “new hoax.”  In fact, the word Coronavirus and Hoax was nearly a minute apart, which for a speech is fairly significant.
But just like with the Covington kids, the media published a narrative and wrote the story they wanted. Facts be damned.
It pains me to have to take a stance like this because I don’t want to defend Trump.  I don’t want to defend any individual in particular, I want to defend the truth.  Not my truth, or “their truth” but THE truth.  In doing so I anger many people and they demean my character.  Some are so tightly bound to their beliefs that it causes them to become angry because they can’t reconcile with anything that doesn’t fit their narrative or what they have mindlessly read.
In hindsight this was precisely the direction I originally wanted to go with my paper.  I think I got too caught up in trying to cite specific stories rather than addressing the problem at large.  But how do I talk about these things without being labeled as the worst names?
People say that diversity is a strength, and I could not agree with that sentiment more.  But it seems to focus solely on party lines, or our personal definitions like race, sexuality or gender identity.  It seems that America, and even our colleges at large, have forgotten that diversity of thought, and critical thinking are two of the most important qualities for a scholar to have.
Just by having this view, I know that people might hate me because to them I am somehow demeaning them. I want equality, and I don’t want any group to suffer, especially the marginalized ones.  I just can’t bring myself to ignore what the truth is.  It seems other people are all too willing to sacrifice the truth just to win an argument or get their way.  Where does that lead us?
