anyway thinking about the thancred/ryne and gaius/allie parallels
#ⅹⅳ tertius oculus ( hcs. )#just two dads trying their best - aka: trying to remedy their past mistakes#trying to wipe the blood off their hands to not dirty another child with the losses they've caused#realizing maybe a bit late that they're actually not. the best. that good intentions do not equal good acts#and that playing the role of dad isn't enough#having to look at their teenage charges and tell them they are sorry and they are trying and it may not be enough#anyway the foil storytelling between g.aius and a.llie and r.yne and t.hancred was good. as ive said many times before -#g.aius is only the bad guy bc he was written to be that way. tha.ncred and him aren't too dissimilar.#doing sometimes heinous things to further themselves and only realizing later how fucked up some things are#and trying to make things right - ie r.yne & r.anjit and v.alens & a.llie#but knowing they cannot wipe away the ash that came before them. that it stains.
