I'm serious - nakamura kazuha x fem!reader
sypnosy: being friends with a florist had some advantage, which being the "I'll pay you later" talk. but when a pretty lady is on the counter instead of your friend, you try to not look like a idiot in front of her.
tags: non-idol au, mutual pining, fluff, just zuha being flirty
Something about the symbolism of flowers always got your attention. as a decoration or a gift, even if you don't know the name or meaning, flowers were pretty to look at anyway. and the flower shop near your university was your favorite place since you visited it occasionally, didn't took too long to you be friends with the owner, sakura.
probably because both of you shared similar ages, just two years apart, the interaction was easy going. and sure, after you totally failed to impress and get out with her, the friendship you both shared was better than any you ever had.
You always mantain a routine of visiting the little flower shop after class, even for studying, you preferred to see pretty flowers in front of you instead of boring books, sakura always tease you saying it is placebo effect and in reality you just can't stay away from her. so naturally, after stressful classes you wanted nothing more than just to complaining and rant about it with your best friend and recharge at your favorite place.
Entering mindless throught the flower shop the bell at the top of the door jingles indicating your familiar presence, and oh how you should've realized sooner before starting a rant that the person behind the counter today wasn't your friend sakura that you were used to.
"Good afternoon, how can I-"
"Kkura I swear to God that if that dumb blonde american girl be loud again at class I-"
you stopped, freezing in your place, when your gaze met a tall, dark haired, pretty pretty woman, behind the counter looking at you in amusement since you just entered and started talking, interrupting her.
"Hum, miss sakura isn't here today, she got sick so I'm taking care of the shop today" the lady said and you weren't expecting such a calm and sweet voice from her, audibily there was a tone of interest in her voice but you didn't notice it.
if sakura was sick why she didn't just closed the shop for the day...
"Right, uhm, sorry about just now I.. wasn't expecting a.." you clear your throat and take a breath to calm down and not stumble over the words before embarrassing yourself even more.
" I'm y/n, a friend of sakura so i'm always around here, and not seeing her got me by surprise because I thought she was the only one that worked here" you finished feeling a little embarrassed and scratched the back of your neck shyly.
"Oh! i'm kazuha, nice to meet you." she says flashing a pretty smile and leans forward on the counter resting her chin against the palm of her hand
"hmm sakura told me about you, but i didn't expect you to be this cute." kazuha added casually with a clearly playful grin.
Your eyes widen a bit surprised and you fidget with the collar of your shirt.
"Oh.. ha well, uhm, thank you. you are very pretty too.." you match her eye contact but bite the inside of your lip nervously.
Kazuha giggles softly observing you and straighten up before speaking
"tell me sweetheart," she tilt her head a little "did your original plan was to come and chat with sakura or are you going to buy a flower? because, unfortunately, I have class in a hour and will have to close the shop in a few." her eyes soften in a apology but she smiled at you in a queit expectation.
Your shoulders relaxed when you felt a good warmth in your chest and kazuha didn't missed the small smile on the corners of your lips as you replied "well, i won't lie saying i did indeed came for a little chat, but uhm, let's see. what flower is good for a 'hope to meet you soon' wish?"
Kazuha playfully shook her head when she understood what you were saying and couldn't hold back the smile growing on her face.
"Well, most of bright flowers carry good meanings with them, so for you.." she starts explaining and soon after roam around the place thinking in your request
"astilbe flowers for example mostly stand for dedication and patience, it stands as a promise to wait for a loved one."
You attentive listen to kazuha explanation while she took a pink and white astilbe flower. you couldn't help but notice the trained gentleness of her touch while she was handling the flowers, petitly wrapping a lace around the stem.
before kazuha handled over the flowers, you watch as she writes something on the lace and after seeing what it is your chest squeezes warmly again.
"remember to take care of the flowers and as it meaning I'll be waiting for at least a text from you later, okay?" she finishes with the same pretty smile from minutes ago and a quick wink, the honesty in her eyes made you let a smile on your own.
paying a considerate tip and leaving after longing stares and a shy goodbye, you quickly take your phone to text your good friend.
you: can you like
you: stay sick for a whole week??
kkura 🌸: ???? what happened
note: writing and learning about body language and meaning of flowers made this one worth it

The audacity
Seventeen 14th member
Hayun’s masterlist
“Seventeen won’t take bs when it comes to Hayun”
Requested by: two (2) anons
cw: offensive language
a/n: Feel free to share your thoughts with me. Requests are open! 💙
(to my brazilians around, this gif is svt’s version of ninguem solta a mão de ninguem)
The arrival of dancers made the practice room even more crowded and noisy than usual. It was one of the few times Seventeen worked with an outside dance team, and they happened to have a lot of new faces around, who needed time to figure out the staging and how things were working so far.
After they ran through the choreography a couple of times, the choreographer called in a break, allowing the huge group to instantly clear the middle space and separate themselves into small circles of conversations.
Seungcheol, Jeonghan, and Joshua instantly met each other and began chatting about dinner plans and whatnot. Slowly approaching Jun and Wonwoo, the oldest filled them in on what they're deciding until he starts searching for someone.
“So, we could order it on the next break and have someone grab it for us. Anyway, did anyone see Hayun?”
“Making friends, as usual,” Wonwoo comments, pointing at the other corner of the room where the girl was surrounded by four dancers.
“Hayun-ah” The leader waves her over and waits as she jogs to his side “We're talking about dinner, what do you think about-”
“Oh, those guys were talking about this new restaurant that opened downtown, I was thinking of tagging along with them” She points back at the group and watches as her members nod “But I can cancel, of course”
“No, go ahead. It's just a meal” Joshua goes to wave her off when Seungkwan approaches them with crossed arms.
“Yeah. Just a meal. Until she's suddenly ditching us during the holidays and moving out with her new friends” The boy pouts, turning his face away from the group. Hayun reaches up to ruffle his hair before landing a soft slap.
“Says the dude who is friends with half of the entertainment industry” Ignoring his eye roll, she turns back to the rest of their little huddle “Well, if nobody else will feel betrayed”
“I was kidding” Seungkwan whines and Scoups pushes her away from them “Stop being dramatic and go do your mingling”
Going back to the group of dancers, Hayun resumes chatting with them for a couple of minutes before the break is over.
After more hours of running over every tiny detail for the stage, the rehearsal finally ends and the scattering of people begins. Hayun takes a couple of minutes talking about minor adjustments with the members and just checking up on them before searching for the four friends she had made that evening.
“Hey, how do you guys plan on heading there?” She asks, taking a sip from her water bottle and missing the glances between the two boys and two girls.
“Actually, we might have to do it another day,” The girl closest to her says and flips a hair strand off of Hayun's shoulder. “We got pretty tired from this last session”
“And work tomorrow it's going to start pretty early, you know. It's best to let this go for today,” The boy nods to her before pulling out his phone from his pocket and slightly turning away from the idol.
“Yeah, I get it. That's okay, we'll reschedule it then” Hayun smiles and gives them a thumbs up “I'll head to the dorms, then. Have a good rest, and tomorrow we'll talk more”.
Sending her some quick waves and small smiles, the four dancers waited for Hayun to turn around before sharing an annoyed look and sighing.
The practice room slowly grows empty, only leaving Wonwoo and Vernon who lost an incredible game of rock, paper, scissors, and had to stay behind to clean up everything. Finally turning off the lights, the two boys head out into the hallway and spot a group of four people standing by the entrance.
“Aren't those the people Hayun was talking to earlier,” Vernon asks quietly before a voice from the group reaches them.
“Why is this damn cab taking so long? We should have let that airhead tag along”.
“Agreed. She would have talked our ears off, but at least we would have made it to the club already”.
Sharing a look, the two idols stop walking and listen closely to understand if the dancers are talking about what the boys think they're talking about.
“That was so stupid. Why would you invite her in the first place? She's so annoying”.
“I mean, having an idol considering you a friend would be fun, right? Especially with the Christmas season coming up. Can you imagine the gifts she would buy us?”
“Yeah, dude. We wouldn't even need to worry about paying for stuff anymore. Just have Hayun tag along anywhere and, boom, no more tabs to pay.”
“But also, no more functioning eardrums”
“No, you have a point. She seems like she'd give us her credit card password on the third time we hung out. Not to mention, looking at her position in contrast with ours. You don't even have to befriend her, but be on her good side, and she'll make sure to give us more gigs within Pledis”.
Standing frozen, Wonwoo and Vernon listened to everything they were saying and shared looks of disbelief. Having enough of it, the oldest cleared his throat and slung his bag, making it hit his own back with enough force to make a thumping sound.
“Let's go, Vernon,” He ignored the four people standing before them with wide eyes and resumed walking. Once shoulder to shoulder with one of the dancers, Wonwoo stopped again and said while looking ahead, “Next time, be careful of whom you're talking about”.
Vernon, on the other hand, made eye contact with each dancer before raising one eyebrow and following the oldest. After closing the car door, he groaned annoyed, “Can you believe they had… ”
“… the fucking audacity” Jeonghan places his cup on the table, face showcasing utter disgust after Wonwoo told him what they had listened before leaving the Pledis building.
“Show me who those people are again tomorrow. I'll make sure they never step inside our practice room, ever again,” Hoshi points out.
“Is there a way of not having them tomorrow? I'm afraid Scoups Hyung might commit murder” Dokyeom brought attention to the leader standing on the corner of the kitchen.
Looking like he was plotting an illegal act, Seungcheol scoffs and pushed himself away from the cabinets. “The bare minimum you would expect from someone is that they can be professional. I swear, those people are getting an earful for talking about Hayun within a billion-meter ratio from where I work”.
“It's best to let it rest until tomorrow's performance is done. After we'll probably never see them again, so there's not much point causing any visible disturbance.” Laying a hand on the leader's arm, Woozi tried to make some sort of sense, but all it did was cause Scoups to roll his eyes.
“We can't just act like nothing happened”
“We also can't change anything about the choreography until then” Hoshi butts in and takes a breath trying not to jump in the 'let's hunt them down' train.
“They already know Wonwoo and Vernon heard them trash-talking her, so I'm not letting them have it easy tomorrow.” Jeonghan rolls his eyes and pointed to both Woozi and Hoshi, “I'm speaking my mind the first moment I see those sons of bitches, you're free to wait until the show's over”.
“About that, I don't think we should tell Hayun what happened” Joshua, who had been quiet the entire time, speaks, drawing attention to him. “Not until, as you said, the show is over, and we won't see them again. You know that she's probably going to get disappointed about it”.
“And you expect her to not go running to meet her new 'friends' once we arrive at the venue?” Wonwoo raises an eyebrow, but Mingyu shakes his head and backs the older up.
“We just have to keep her entertained around us. Fill in Dino, Seungkwan, and Myungho later, and have them help with making sure the group doesn't run into her”.
Raising his hand, Vernon casually mumbles “Maybe don't tell Seungkwan, he won't be able to hide his feelings about the whole thing”
“Myungho won't either” Jun comments and the room falls silent at the sound of the remaining members chatting and approaching the kitchen.
“Wow, you make a meeting and forget to call in the main characters” Hayun laughs walking through the room and opening the fridge for a beer “So, when's the food arriving?”
~
Hayun is sitting on the makeup chair, casually watching Scoups and Jeonghan whispering to each other from the mirror's reflection, when a hand lands on her shoulder and another holds out a smoothie for her.
“Whatcha thinking about?” Joshua sits on the chair next to her while Mingyu punctures the drink's lid with a straw.
Without taking her eyes off the mirror, she nods with her head to it. “Those two are up to something”
“Scoups and Jeonghan Hyung? Nah, they're always like that. Sharing secrets and stuff,” Mingyu giggles, shoving the straw inside her mouth and shifting to stand in front of the mirror. “Cute nail polish, when did you have time to get it done?”
“Oh, these are acrylics. This lady was just putting them on” Hayun falls into his trap and began analyzing the design with some occasional comments from the boys.
Peace has seemingly set inside the dressing room, yet it doesn't last long until Dino's loud “Uh?” caught the attention of the members, who turned to see what he and Vernon were doing.
Trying to shut the youngest up, Vernon makes it very obvious to the guys that he had just filled Dino in with the “frenemies” situation. Most of them try to brush it off and not bring more attention to it. Seungkwan, however, approaches them by, very loudly, asking what's up.
“What are you talking about?” He boringly fixes up his outfit. Vernon can feel the burning eyes of Jeonghan on his skull as he tries to deviate the conversation to another topic.
“Did you go see catering already? I heard they had a coffee machine”.
“Wait. Does he not know what happened?” Dino fails to read the room properly and instigates the older boy.
“What happened? Why is everyone sharing secrets all of a sudden? Is the thing you're discussing why Scoups Hyung seems ready to jump someone”.
The timing of events can't be worse, as the makeup artist taps Hayun's shoulder to let her know they were done. Within seconds, the girl gets up and turns to where the three youngest were standing.
“What's with the gossiping? Did Vernon lose his airpods again?” She brushes away from Joshua as he tried to hold her in place and waves off Mingyu when, in a panic, he suggests they should check out the pigeons outside.
“What? No! I mean, yeah! How unfortunate, isn't it?” Vernon jumps around his answers and tries looking for anyone willing to help him out.
“Just tell her about it” Approaching them from the door, Jeonghan, now without the leader's company, shrugs his shoulders, making Hayun raise an eyebrow.
“Jeonghan, at least wait until the day is over,” Joshua speaks through his teeth and the boy rolls his eyes.
“Well, she already knows something is up, and to be fair I don't know what good hiding this will bring. At least, if she feels like doing something about it, she'll have the chance right now”.
“Do something about it? Hadn't we agreed that the best is to wait until the performance is over and just never see them again?”
“What even are you talking about?” Hayun shuts them both up and Jeonghan and Joshua turned to her with annoyed expressions, “Don't even look at me like that. You're the ones mentioning me as if I'm not in the room”.
Placing a hand on her shoulder, Joshua tilts his head a little and speaks softly, “Trust me for a moment here, it's best if you brush it aside. Until later at least, and then we can settle it as you wish”.
“Wha- Just spill it out for fucks sake. I'm going to combust if you don't tell me right now whatever this all means,” Hayun puffs, punching his shoulder. Just as Joshua opens his mouth to say the same thing again, Jeonghan beats him and shoves himself in front of the girl.
“Do you recall those dancers you were planning to go out with yesterday? Yeah, well, turns out they're all little shits who were trash-talking you, and just overall talking crap, yesterday”
“Jeonghan” Joshua repressed the older who does nothing but wave him off.
“Doesn't matter what they said because you're nothing of it, and-” Adverting his eyes for a second, Jeonghan stares to the side, where half of Scoups' body is waving for him through the door. “And, and, you're amazing and all of that. So now go rest your awesome self while I go teach those punks a lesson”.
Zooming past her, Jeonghan runs to the door, where the leader is already back outside. Hoshi, Jun, Woozi, and DK, scream for him before also going out of the door. A very lost, Seungkwan, simultaneously tries to get Vernon to tell him what exactly the dancer said before while shouting for the older to wait for him to also speak his mind.
“I didn't want you to know about this before the performance, but-”
“Whatever, let's make sure nobody dies today” Hayun rolls her eyes and turns around, Wonwoo running from where he was watching everything and holding her by the shoulder.
“Do you want us to go fix that up? It's okay to give them the cold shoulder or just go off if you want to” Nodding, she keeps silent and walks out, bringing the rest of the guys behind her.
The8, who also had just found out about the situation, whispers to Vernon, “Can you believe they had the audacity?”
“I know, right?” The youngest whisper-yelled at him as they made it to the hallway and assessed the situation.
“The next time you even think about opening your mouth to talk about her-” Scoups had his finger pointing at the tallest dancer -who ironically had a few centimeters on him-, while the rest of the members stood next to him nodding and calmly listening to what the leader was saying.
“Oppa, just drop it,” Hayun shouts, walking past them and holding his shoulder.
Annoyingly, Scoups rolled his eyes and turned to her, “What do you mean, drop it?” Thinking for a second, he blinked and turned even more bothered, “Who even told you about this?”
The leader looked around until he found Mingyu, offending the tall guy who made an X in front of his body.
“Doesn't matter who told me. Let's just not lose time doing this” Brushing past him, Hayun now faced the dancers “Look, I'll teach you something right now, so grab it or drop it okay? I don't give a shit that you don't like me, or whatever, but at least be professional because all this situation did was teach me that none of you care about your careers. It's pretty clear by the angry puppy beside me that you just lost any chance of growing inside our brand, so keep this as a lesson and respect the artists you're working with. Also, once we're on stage put on a smile, so my fans won't be able to sense your shit”
“It should be pretty clear by what she said but you definitely don't have a chance to work with any Pledis artist again” Hoshi came from the end of the hallway alongside their manager and choreographer. The latter nodded and added.
“For the sake of the performance, you should all go back to your dressing rooms. You all said whatever was on your mind, so try to refocus during the last few minutes you have”.
“I didn't get to say what was on my mind” While the group was dispersing, DK mumbles on the side and Jun snorts.
“You had a chance, but all you did was stare at them and scowl until Scoups Hyung took the lead”
“I don't care about who said and who didn't say what they wanted” Hayun rolled her eyes, turning to the boys as they arrived in the room. Clasping her hands together, she brings them to her face and smiles, “You all care about me”.
“The fact you still doubted about it after years hurts me” Dokyeom held his chest and frowned, the girl laughs and goes to hug him.
“Group hug?” Seungkwan says uncertainly and Hoshi nods, dragging Woozi with him, “Group hug!”

1 of 10 (Bucky Barnes x Reader)
Not my GIF (look at this man...)
A/N: so here’s that Bucky fic I’ve been talking about. This took me too long to write but I like it? I’m absolutely loving Falcon and The Winter Soldier! I’ve mentioned this before but Bucky Barnes is my all time favourite fictional character. This is set before the events of episode one but maybe like a week or so before. I hope you enjoy. Sorry for any mistakes. Stay safe.
Genre: fluff, angst
Warnings: fem!reader, tfatws spoilers, Bucky being awkward, nightmares, therapy, Bucky isn’t as smooth as he was in the 40s but he’s still cute
Summary: Bucky has ten contacts in his phone. One of which belongs the the girl he feels he has been searching for for 106 long years.
The times in which he found himself now were more than confusing. But that was the best way Bucky could think to describe them. For him though it seemed a lot worse than for others. For others, they had a gap of five years missing. For Bucky, he had far more than that.
From 1943 to 2023 there was a lot missing. He remembered it however. He remembered everything. The good, the bad, and the horrifying. What was meant by missing was that it wasn’t him who was living. He had missed out on living between those years. He had missed out on everything. And he knew, like the billions of others, he would never get those years back.
But now he was a civilian. Working to make amends from his past after being given a pardon. However, settling into his new easy life was proving far from that. It had been a few months now since the whole ordeal with saving the blipped half of humanity, Bucky included, and it had been a few months now since Steve went back in time and started a new life leaving him and Sam behind.
Sam. Right.
Sam was an avenger. More so than Bucky could ever be. So he was off doing his avenging work while Steve’s shield gathered dust in a wardrobe somewhere he was sure. Sam didn’t have it in him to take up the mantle of Captain America. He felt the shield belonged to someone else. It was Steve’s. It only ever could be.
More often than perhaps Bucky would like, he would get texts from Sam. Asking him how he was and telling him about missions he was going on. Bucky never replied. He didn’t know how to half the time and he didn’t want to.
He didn’t know how he was. He didn’t know if he was okay. He was forced to go see a therapist but all he did was lie to her.
“Have you had any nightmares recently?” She would ask him.
Bucky would think back to the night before their meeting and all the others as well. Each night he’d have to be faced with the horrors of his past. Every mission he carried out. Every person he carelessly killed.
“No” he would answer. And it wasn’t like he was wrong in his answer. The things he saw in his sleep were not nightmares they were memories. The nightmarish horrors he was were his reality, so when he said no in response to her question, he found it difficult to be accused of lying.
There were few things he could agree with her about. But the one thing he could see eye to eye with her about was the fact he was alone.
Sure, he had Sam. But only when Bucky wanted to acknowledge him which had not been often as of recently. And as his therapist so kindly pointed out he only had ten contacts on his phone. But in his defence, he still wasn’t used to the whole world of mobile communications and internet. So his phone was basically redundant to him. His mind was still in the 1940s where you’d find a date, what would now be classed as, the old fashioned way. By looking in person and talking. Not just texting or swiping left or right on an app.
Granted, Bucky did try his hand in online dating but it was far too much for him. It wasn’t only hard for him to figure out but also he saw too much of people he didn’t even know. The openness of the internet was something that was mind boggling to him. So that was thrown out of the window pretty quickly.
But what his therapist had failed to note was one name in his contacts. The name of his neighbour and quite possibly the one he wanted to end his loneliness with.
Back in his time, when he didn’t just have the looks of someone in their 20s, Bucky was in fact quite popular and good with the ladies. But the ladies, he found, of this new age were completely different to the ones of his time. Not that there was a problem, he just knew that he couldn’t used the same moves now as what he could back then.
He met (Y/N), his neighbour, as he was first moving in. After coming back, loosing Steve and getting a pardon, Bucky thought it be best to try and start a new. He did that by moving back to his old home of Brooklyn. His old apartment was obviously gone and with little money to his name he couldn’t afford the one that replaced it. It was far to big for him anyway. But he managed to find a smaller more affordable one and he much preferred it. If not only for the quieter location then the others in the building too.
(Y/N) was the first person he spoke too when back in Brooklyn. She was sweet and kind when introducing herself. She offered to help him move in but he really didn’t have that much stuff to use in making his new apartment more homely. And he had no food either. So (Y/N) did the neighbourly thing and invited him in for some food. A meal of sorts although she didn’t have much food either at the time. Even so, it was nice for him to be in company for once. And it was such warm company. They didn’t speak about much but he learnt a few things about her.
And now, on most Thursday evenings, he’ll find himself with her in her apartment eating a meal, sometimes she’ll cook, sometimes they’ll order take out, but he enjoys it regardless.
It was clear from the offset that she knew who he was. He frantically explained to her that he wasn’t what he used to be anymore and explained the terms of his pardon and how he’s making amends. But he needn’t have waste his breath on it. She didn’t seem to care about it. About who he used to be. She told him that she doesn’t live in peoples pasts and that she wanted to get to know him for who he is, not who he was. Those words meant a great deal to him. And from that moment on he had fallen for her.
Bucky sighed as he dragged himself up the stairs to his floor. He desperately wished there was some way of getting out of these therapy sessions. But he was tied to them. He couldn’t stop going to them even though he wanted too. But there, it wasn’t really like he had anything better to do. Nothing but either sitting at home in silence or walking around busy streets constantly looking over his shoulder. Those were his only other options.
As he walked to his apparent at the end of the hallway (Y/N)’s door opened and she walked out dressed for the outdoors, it was getting cold so it was smart of her to be wearing a warm coat. “(Y/N)” he called gently to her. She lifted her head after locking her door and gave him a warm smile.
“Hi James” She said, she always called him James rather than Bucky. He didn’t know why but he didn’t exactly mind. “How was your session today?” She had memorised the times at which he went to his therapy sessions. She probably knew he schedule better than he did.
Bucky shrugged “the usual” he told her making her laugh a little.
“That bad huh?”
“I guess” he said scratching the back of his neck.
“Well, I’m heading to the store to get some food if you wanted to talk on the way? Don’t feel you have to”
“No, that sounds good” he tried to smile but it was a little awkward, but she didn’t seem to say anything and just motioned her head for him to follow.
The shop wasn’t too far away so it was a quick walk. Bucky wasn’t the talkative type, not really anyway. Especially not to someone he didn’t like. And Dr Raynor was someone who he didn’t like. He was sure that deep down she was a lovely person but he didn’t like the fact she was insistent in getting him to admit his feelings. Although that was her job.
It wasn’t long until they arrived at the store “so what happened?” (Y/N) asked as she picked up a basket.
“Just the usual...she asked me if I had a nightmare-“
“Did you?” Bucky didn’t answer and just looked away from her. “James, you know that it’s her job to help you. And it’s in your best interest to let her”
“I know...but at the same time...I don’t see the point. These things are mandatory. So if I don’t want to go then I don’t see it being helpful”
“I can understand that” her eyes flicking between two boxes of cereal as she inwardly decried in which one to get, but her indecisive nature got the better of her so she opted to get both. Her indecisiveness, Bucky thought, was incredibly cute. It linked in with her kindness, on their Thursday evening meals together it takes ages just to decide what to have. “But still,” she continued, Bucky following her like a lost puppy “like you said, it’s mandatory. And there are people who would love to be in your position. Getting therapy I mean. So you should at least make the most of it while you can”
“I mean...yeah. I guess. But...I don’t know I just...well it’s easier to talk to someone like you then it is to talk to her” (Y/N) smiled at little at this as she finished putting on the last few items before making her way to the till.
Neither of them said much else. Expect for (Y/N) making light conversation with the cashier as she paid although both (Y/N) and Bucky knew that the cashier really didn’t want to be there. Luckily it didn’t take long for (Y/N) to bag her items and pay for them before they were both leaving the store.
It had gotten colder outside then when they left originally. (Y/N) shivered and pulled her coat around her a little more before they both began walking back to their apartment building.
“So what is it about me that makes you find it easier to talk?” She asked, she brushed her hair from her face as a sudden gust of wind blew it out of place when she turned to look at him.
“Well...” he muttered shoving his hands into his pockets “for one, you don’t sit there with a passive aggressive notebook ready to write shit about me” this made her laugh a little, she always found it funny when he’d talk about this notebook Dr Raynor had. She didn’t really know why he hated it so much, and she knew she shouldn’t have found it funny but he never stopped her from laughing about it, in fact often times he would join in thereby encouraging her.
“Yes, that is something better I guess. Although, I’m sure I could find a notebook if you wanted” she teased.
“Oh god. Please don’t” He said holding back a smile.
“Anything else?” She asked him.
Bucky thought for a moment. There were many things about her that made it easier for him to talk to her, but he couldn’t list them all. For one, that would be embarrassing, and two he didn’t think he’d have the breath to do it. “Well-“
He was cut off when he saw (Y/N)’s smile fall and her pace began to slow right down to a stop. Bucky stopped and looked at her “everything okay?” He asked her, his voice full of concern.
She turned sharply to the side so she was facing the road “y-yeah..” she stuttered nervously “just...my ex is walking this way and I really don’t want him to see me”
Bucky felt a strange feeling inside him. He didn’t even know she had been in a relationship. It must’ve been a recent thing right? Unless it was a really bad break up in the past, or this guy had done something to her to prompt her being so on edge. Bucky turned to try and scope out this guy but he didn’t have a clue what he was looking for. So he reached over to her and pulled up her hood on her hoodie that she wore under her coat and pulled her into his side so that her face was hidden from view.
“Tell me when he’s gone” Bucky muttered to her. She nodded her head and let him walk her along the path, she kept her eye on the path ahead as best she could while still covering her face. But she was now more focused on two things, his arm around her and his wonderful smell. Never did she think she’d ever get this close to him. She never thought he’d let her, but here she was attached to his side with his arm wrapped around her, holding her protectively against him.
And his smell. It was just as comforting as she dreamed it would be. A mix of his cologne and what she could only describe as Him. All she wanted to do now was to just melt into his strong and warm embrace and just stay there forever.
In all her daydreaming she didn’t notice that her ex had long since walked by and they had reached the entrance to their apartment building and she didn’t tell him he could let go or that it was safe for her to walk properly.
Bucky came to a stop and slowly slipped his arm from her “I mean...I take it he’s gone now right?” He said a little nervously. (Y/N) stood up straight and pushed the hood from her head and nodded quickly, her cheeks burning in embarrassment.
“Yeah. Yes, right. Sorry. Yes. He’s gone. I um...I just wanted to make sure he didn’t suddenly turn around you know? That’s all” she said in an unconvincing tone. But Bucky himself was too flustered to actually care that she was flustered as well.
“Of course, that’s smart. Well we made it back” he said stepping up to the door and pushing it open for her. She nodded and thank you and quickly hopped inside the building, Bucky following after her.
The walk up the stairs was an awkward silence. They felt like teenagers after their first ever date. Who says something first? What do they even say? Luckily for them, this wasn’t a first date, and they weren’t teenagers. They were fully grown, mature adults. But that doesn’t mean adults can’t get flustered in the presence of their crush...right?
After what felt like hours, but was more like five painstaking minuets, they finally got to their floor and walked down the hall, both briefly forgetting that they lived right next to each other.
(Y/N) stopped at her door and placed her bag of food on the floor to fish out her keys from her pocket. “Uh...you want to come in?” She asked whilst fiddling around in her pocket to find the keys. “I know it’s not Thursday but we didn’t really talk as much as usual...” her voice seemed to trail off as she finally found her keys and put them in the key hole before unlocking the door. “You don’t have too..”
“I’d...like to...” he said in a soft voice with a gentle smile to try and put her at ease even though he too was freaking out inside. She smiled back and picked up her bag before walking inside her apartment, he did too.
They both made their way into her small kitchen and he made himself at home by sitting in his usual seat at her white kitchen table and she began to unpack the shopping “Do you want me to help?” He asked her as he went to stand up but she waved off his offer.
“No no, it’s fine. There’s only a few bits anyway” she told him as she began to pack each item away in its rightful place.
“So uh...” Bucky began quietly as he scraped his metal finger again the wood table. “This ex of yours...what’s the story there?”
Bucky was a little cautious of his words. He didn’t want to say anything to hurt or offend her but at the same time he wanted to know what about the guy made her so on edge earlier.
“Oh uh...” she muttered as she pulled two cups from her cupboard.
“You don’t need to tell me if you want want to. Sorry..”
“It’s fine” she assured him “nothing really happened I guess. It was just a bad break up. He didn’t really take it well and for a few weeks after that he just kept texting me and trying to call me. He came round to my place too to try and get me back. He never did know how to take no for an answer. But about a month ago he finally got the message and stopped all contact with me. Seeing him today...I was just worried that he’d try it all again”
“He sounds like a real asshole” Bucky said flatly making her laugh a little as she went about making some tea for the both of them. “But in his defence, if I lost a girl like you, I’d struggle with taking no for an answer as well”
(Y/N) let out a nervous laugh and almost dropped his tea cup from the shock of his comment but she was a little more used to his flirtatious nature that would sometimes make an appearance when they were in her apartment. After he told her about his boyish charms back in the 40s she noticed how he would often slip back into that era. It was cute to say the least.
She set down his tea in front of him and he flashed her a “thank you” smile before wrapping his fingers around it.
There was a brief silence in the room. She was greatly over thinking is earlier comment. But so was he. Maybe he shouldn’t have said it. He meant it though. But what if he had pushed the limit a little too far?
“What was the other reason?” She asked him, her finger nail scratching again the tea cup trying to avoid eye contact with him at all costs.
“Huh?” He questioned looking over the table to her.
“Earlier. You were going to give me another reason why I’m easier to talk to. What was it?”
Bucky’s muscles tensed as his fingers gripped the tea cup handle as he stared into the black tea she had made for him. “If I’m being honest...” he began slowly “I think...there are too many reasons why I find talking to you easier. But I guess one is that you don’t do it because you have to or it’s your job to. You do it out of kindness. And it’s...easier to talk to someone who’s listening because they want to. And yes, I get that Dr Raynor probably does want to help me but I also know that at the end of the day, it’s all for a pay check. But with you...you do it because you want to. Or at least...I think you want to”
“I do want to, James. I’ll always be around to ask if you’re okay. And to make you okay when you’re not. I care about you...”
“And...I care about you. Another reason I prefer talking to you is because...I like you...a lot. I just think you’re the most beautiful woman, and you have such a sweet and caring nature and a good heart that is wasted on me. But I can’t help but like you...” he couldn’t really believe he just said what he did. He wasn’t mean to tell her that. It was meant to stay a secret within him into the end of time. But there was a shift in atmosphere that just made it all slip out.
“You...you like me?” She asked, still not looking at him.
“Yeah...” he said. There was a little more confidence in his voice as he admitted his feelings towards her.
“I like you too..” she too held a little more confidence in her voice as she admitted her returned feelings. It felt...good. Especially since she knew he returned the feelings she had harboured for him since they met.
She stood abruptly and held her hand out to him. He looked at it and looked up at her again before taking her hand. She pulled him to his feet and a little close to her.
He smirked a little as he looked down at her “you want me to kiss you or something?” He said almost proudly.
“Yes..” she said “but first...I want to know something”
“What do you want to know?” He asked her. She squeezed his hand and dragged him out of her kitchen.
She lead him to her bedroom and noticed the worried expression on his face when he looked at her bed. This was what she wanted to know.
“You don’t have a bed in your apartment...” She told him quietly. (Y/N) turned her body so she was facing him completely, he cautiously lifted his hands to settle on her waist.
“I know...” he mumbled.
“Why?”
Bucky paused but he felt safe enough to give her an honest answer “I...I’m...scared. Of them”
“What is it about a bed that scares you?” She whispered, her fingers gently trailing down his cheeks. Bucky didn’t answer right away, for one he was to busy focusing of the beautiful touch of her hands, and for another, he didn’t really know the answer to her question. But he could take a guess.
“Because I...I don’t think I’ve slept in one since 1943. And I...after everything I’ve done...I don’t deserve to lie in such luxury...” his voice was quiet and barely audible, had it not been for the close proximity they were in, she probably wouldn’t have heard him.
“James...” she laid her forehead against his and he instinctively griped her waist a little tighter. The comfort and warmth she was bringing him was something he didn’t want to loose. She was someone he didn’t want to loose. He felt safer with no one but her. For once he actually felt...okay. But he felt he was holding her too tightly, but if he was she was wasn’t willing to tell him that.
“You know that you have no reason to be afraid. You are changing. You are becoming a good man. You do deserve to live in luxury, even if that starts with sleeping in a proper bed. Maybe it is scary for you...but...if you’ll allow me, I’ll help you face it”
“Please...” he whispered with a nod before pressing his lips to hers.

Cheesy Romance || Denki Kaminari x Reader
Masterlist
Pairing: Denki Kaminari x Reader
Requested by Anonymous: May I request one where the reader is just unapologetically whipped for Denki and makes it their life task to just. Romance him in the cheesiest way. Make him blush. Make that boy feel loved. He deserves it. Either way, thanks for sharing your writing, I'm excited for every new post!
Summary: You’re whipped for Denki Kaminari and flirt with him all the time, and eventually one day he confesses his feelings to you
Word Count: 1.7k
Notes: a/m=action movie, y/f/c=your favorite candy, and d/f/c=denki’s favorite candy (idk what his favorite candy is, so you can make it whatever you think it would be)
A/n: You didn’t specify what kind you wanted, but I assumed you wanted headcanons, but I totally ignored that assumption and decided to turn it into a little drabble about them getting together, but then I got carried away and this ended up being longer than I intended it to be, so I hope that is okay. I kept the same idea about the reader being whipped for him, and flirty, I just turned it into a oneshot instead of headcanons. I also added in a scene of them going to the movies together and I don’t know how movie theaters work in Japan, but I’m sure it’s similar to how American movie theaters work, so I just went with that. Anyways, thank for requesting! I hope this is okay! - Danielle <3
“Morning Kaminari!” You happily said, walking into the kitchen. Kaminari was sitting at the counter, eating a bowl of cereal.
“Morning L/n,” he replied.
“How did you sleep last night?” You asked, pouring yourself a cup of tea/coffee, but before he could answer, you spoke again, “Do you want some?”
“No thanks,” he replied, “And I slept good.”
“That’s good!” You replied, “Do you have any plans for today, since we have the day off?”
“Yeah, Kirishima wanted to go see some new action movie,” Kaminari explained.
“Ooo, do you think I could come along?” You asked.
“I don’t see why not, check with Kirishima first though,” Kaminari said, giving you a small smile.
“Okay! I’ll go do that!” You said, walking away with your cup of tea/coffee in your hand.
Ever since you got to know Kaminari, you were always so flirty and sweet with him. He honestly wasn’t used to it. Usually, he was the one flirting with girls, who didn’t flirt back or show any interest in him. But you had approached him and started being nice to him, and your flirting actually worked on him.
He could still remember the first time that you had made him blush, which was a rare occurrence for him.
For whatever reason, everybody in class 1-A had agreed to meet up and watch the sunset together. Everybody was sitting on blankets, with some snacks, all talking together. You were walking around, trying to find somewhere to sit. Ochaco and Izuku invited you to go sit with them, but you rejected their offer and instead, approached the blanket that Denki, Bakugou, Kirishima and Sero were sitting on.
“Hey guys! Can I sit with you?” You asked, smiling at them.
“Fuck no-” Bakugou started but Kirishima cut him off.
“Sure! Go right ahead L/n! We have plenty of snacks!” Kirishima said, giving you a big smile.
“Thanks,” you said, sitting down in between Sero and Denki. You took the drawstring bag from your back and opened it, “I brought some snacks.” You took the bag of chips from the bag, along with a few different types of candy, and a few kinds of snack cakes.
“Wow, L/n! This is great, thank you,” Sero said, opening the bag of chips.
“Yeah,” Kaminari added on, “Thanks L/n.”
“Oh, Kaminari, I got you something,” you said, pulling one last thing from the bag, “I heard you telling Kirishima that they were your favorite.” You handed him a bag of his favorite candy, and his face lit up.
“Thanks! You’re so nice,” Kaminari said, opening the bag of candy, and eating a few, “Want some?”
“No thanks, I’m not really a big fan of those,” you replied, instead opening one of the snack cakes and eating it. After that, you all talked for a while. You and Kaminari were laughing at something the other had said, and eventually you both stopped, with huge smiles on your faces. As you looked at him, you noticed a little plant growing out of the ground behind him. You reached forward and past him, picking the little daisy out of the ground.
You returned to your previous position, spinning the daisy in between your fingers. After a moment, you made eye contact with Denki and gave him a small smile, before reaching forward and tucking the daisy into his blonde locks of hair.
“Can I take a photo of you? You look really cute with that daisy in your hair,” you said, pulling your phone out of your pocket. Denki nodded, not being able to say anything, as you came up beside him and held the phone out in front of the two of you, making sure the two of you were in frame, before speaking again, “Smile!”
And now, you had a photo on your phone of you and Denki, in which Denki had a daisy in his hair and a light pink blush on his cheeks.
Sometimes, Denki couldn’t believe that you actually liked him. At certain times, he figured it was some cruel joke that his friends were playing on him, and that you didn’t actually like him, but then again, you flirted with him way too often to not actually like him.
Denki found himself being oddly nervous around you, for some reason. He had met and flirted with plenty of girls, but there was something about you that made him nervous to mess up in front of you. It was probably the fact that you had been the only girl to show interest in him and actually try to flirt with him.
He would be lying to himself if he said that your compliments didn’t make his day, because they one hundred percent did. He could be having the most shitty day, no matter whether he had slept bad, or Bakugou had said something mean to him, or he had failed a test, one flirty compliment from you and his whole day was better.
Kaminari was snapped out of his thoughts by your voice.
“I’m back! I talked to Kiri and he said I could come, this is going to be so exciting,” you said.
“Yeah,” Denki replied, smiling at you, “I’m glad you’re coming.” “Me too," you replied, filling your cup back up, “I should go get ready. See you later!” “See you,” Denki replied, watching as you walked away and back to your room to get ready.
“Six tickets for a/m, please,” Mina said, giving the money that you had all handed her to the worker. Everybody paid for their own ticket, besides Kaminari, you had insisted on paying for his and it was clear that you weren’t giving up, so eventually, after Bakugou screamed at him to just take it, he did.
“Here,” the worker said, handing her the slips of paper. Then you all took turns getting your own popcorn and drinks.
“Wanna share a popcorn with me?” You asked, looking at Denki, giving him a little wink, causing him to blush a bit.
“I guess, but I’m paying this time,” Denki said, going to pull the money out of his pocket.
“Nope,” you replied, taking the money from your own pocket.
“Why not!?” Denki exclaimed.
“Cause I don’t want you wasting your money,” you explained, as Bakugou finished getting whatever he wanted. Kirishima went next.
“But you’re wasting your own money on me,” Denki pointed out.
“It’s not a waste if I’m spending it on you, Kaminari,” you said, giving him a small smile.
“Denki,” he said.
“Huh?” You asked, giving him a confused look.
“You can call me Denki,” he explained, causing you to smile.
“Okay, Denki,” you said, “You can call me Y/n if you want.”
“Can you two stop fucking flirting and tell the lady what you want!?” Bakugou yelled, making you realize that Kirishima had finished.
“Sorry,” you said, “I’ll take a large popcorn, with two drinks, y/f/c, and d/f/c.”
“Okay, that’ll be $18.23,” the worker said, and you handed her your money, before she got your popcorn, and candy, and handed you to empty cups to get your own drinks. You handed Denki his candy and empty cup, before going over to fill up your own drink.
Denki followed you over, and got his drink, before you got yours. Then, you two headed back over to the rest of the group and went inside the theater. Bakugou made sure you guys were early so you got good seats. You ended up sitting in between Mina and Denki, with Denki having an empty seat beside him.
“This is exciting,” you said, eating some popcorn, “I haven’t been to the movies in a while.”
“Yeah,” Denki responded, eating some of the candy you had gotten him. He was about to speak again, when you pulled out your phone, and unlocked it. His eyes went wide when he saw what your background photo was and he almost spit out his candy. There was a light blush on his cheeks as he spoke again, “Is that the photo you took of me with the daisy in my hair?”
“Oh, yeah. Would you like me to send it to you? You could make it your profile photo on something, you look cute in it,” you said, smiling at him.
“No, I mean, sure, I guess. But why’d you make it your background?”
“Why wouldn’t I? I really like you and it’s no big secret that I do, but if it makes you uncomfortable then I can change it. I just think you’re really cute, and a really great person, and I don’t think you get told that enough,” you explained, shrugging. Denki couldn’t believe what he was hearing, sure, he knew you liked him, but he didn’t think it was that much.
He was about to speak, but he was cut off, by the sound of a video ending. He looked over to see Mina holding up her phone and smiling.
“You two are so cute!” She said, bringing her phone back down to look at the video she got. You rolled your eyes, and jokingly hit her arm.
“Do you know the definition of privacy?” You asked, fake glaring at her.
“Nope,” she replied, smiling at you, before looking back to her phone.
“Hey, Y/n?” Denki asked.
“Oh, yeah, did you want me to change my background?” You asked, looking back to him.
“Oh, no, you don’t have to. I just,” Denki said, taking a deep breath, “I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date with me sometime?” Denki half expected you to reveal that you were joking the whole time and that you didn’t really like him at all. He had been rejected so many times, and he was really worried that you would reject him as well.
“Wait,ser iously?” You asked, your face lighting up, “You really want to go on a date with me!?”
“Yeah,” Denki replied, giving you a small smile.
“Yes!” You exclaimed, “I’d love to!”
“Are you two going to stop being fucking cheesy all the time, now?” Bakugou asked, interrupting, “It makes me sick to my stomach.”
“Sorry, Bakugou, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to get a million times cheesier,” you replied.
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” Bakugou said, sighing.
“Aw, it’s okay Bakubro, at least we don’t have to listen to Kaminari talking about liking her now,” Kirishima sat, patting Bakugou’s back as he slammed his head into the seat in front of him.
And that was the beginning of your wonderful and cheesy relationship with Denki Kaminari.

Hey what's Jason's relationship with nocturna? It's the first time I've heard of her😣 and nothing on her wikia mentioned anything about Jason. She seems interesting character and I would like to know more about her.
okay I went. A little insane. Here's a retelling of her pre crisis arc, long as hell
(this part covers Batman #529 / Detective Comics #363 / Batman #530) ok for some context: it’s pre crisis, meaning this Jason was also a circus boy. He has recently lost his parents, and was taken by Bruce, but isn’t dealing with the loss well, finding himself missing his past life. PLUS Bruce isn’t allowing him to be his partner, and that has him sad as well.
SO he wants to go back to the circus, since hes lonely and directionless etc.
NOW. ENTER NATALIA KNIGHT! Shes a villain, think.. Catwoman meets Poison Ivy? She’s a thief, but seduces men to do the stealing mostly.
Her backstory is basically that she was an orphan living in the streets, and met who will then become his adoptive parent Charles Knight when she was 12. When she’s already an adult, Charles gets killed, and she finds out he had big money bags bc he was a criminal. and she said. awn man i like being rich. well. time to do crimes.
she’s rlly into the night and the stars (she was the head of the observatory, which Bruce was funding through his company or w/e)
anyways. she gets away, Jason helps bruce find her (but! bruce wouldnt le him help which rlly hurt jason), and as her and her partner anton are getting away (again) batman catches up to them, but only manages to bring anton to justice, while Nocturna escapes in like. one of those giant balloons idk whats the name
the issue ends with Nocturna/Natalia sending Bruce money for the maintenance of the observatory and with Jason deciding to leave
NOW onto the next part. So in this issue we have Jason escaping home, Bruce going to court against Natalia’s partner Anton, and Natalia just vibing around, and she happens to find Jason running away from home, and they have a conversation in which she tries to convince him to go back home.
but Jason. well.
So Bruce gets back home and Alfred tells him about Jason running away, and bruce, in real bruce fashion, is all like ughg i shouldve listened to him.. well lets go get him. and alfred is like. sir. do i have to remind u u arent his legal guardian yet. u have no right to decide where he stays.
so bruce is like ugh fine. i’ll go patrol then. which he does, and turns out Nocturna was trying to help Anton escape, and well it fails, and she gets captured too.
and that’s that for Natalia… for now ;)
NOW. this isn’t relevant for Natalia & Jason but again some context. Covers um covers fuck a bunch of issues. SO. what happens in this time
jason goes back to the circus but is deeply unhappy
he’s still doing detective work. hasnt seen bruce or alfred in a while
alfred visits
case stuff case stuff case stuff it was the clown all along
Jason ends up helping Bruce, since they were both working the same case separately, and they make up
NOW. a lot of shit happens not relevant to nocturna. Jason isnt robin for a while, then he uses Dicks costume, then bruce gets mad at him for that bc its not his costume, so jason uses his own costume, then dick gives him the robin costume, so jason becomes robin. um stuff stuff happens and all it matters is the panel below.
NOW! BACK TO NOCTURNA!
her comeback arc kinda starts in batman #374, where this lady is like hold on.. bruce wayne isnt jasons legal guardian wtf, is he even fit to have a kid?
so she starts digging around, asking questions
and shes like yea this is real fishy, give me that kid
so bruce and jason try to behave like uh yes no robin and batman business. let that kid be a kid.
but welp.
and so.. Jason is taken away :( and both of them are heartbroken :(
but u know what! bruce wayne is one stubborn fucker! and he will fight to have the legal guardianship!
and even if they’re not living together anyomre they’re still the dynamic duo in a way, which like. lol. this lady took this kid away bc she was worried about him but he still ran away.. tch tch tch.
they’re both rlly depressed about the situation
AND THATS WHAT U MISSED ON GLEE!!
NOW. SHES BACK. look at this epic cover
shes now parterning w a dude named nightshade or smth, and he like. rlly wants to hit that, but shes like um pause ⏸️✋my love is the night. the dude, like every other man, is like so im not getting anything from this? fuck u, and leaves. shes like whatevers, ugh how annoying i dont have a partner again & anton is still in prison… & while shes again chilling she finds out about Bruce trying to legally adopt jason & recognizes jason from the time they talked
& goes to visit him
and theres also this dude, whos not rlly relevant for now, will try to stop bruce from adopting jason which will be relevant later hehe (there's a whole subplot with him and bullock but like it's not rlly relevant to Jason n Natalia) (shrug emoji)
and so. Bruce finds out..
and so the cover becomes a reality, Bruce and Natalia WILL fight in a chuck n cheese parking lot to become Jason’s parent.. and Natalia may try to pull a reverse card on Bruce
and well. Bruce rlly has no chance now does he? and turns out Jason wants this to happen since hes convinced he can unreveal Natalia’s secrets from the inside
and a lil sweet moment between father & son
and then a moment with Amanda, who, in my opinion, did nothing wrong ever
meanwhile Anton comes back, tells Nocturna he killed the dude that was bothering her, and she gets PISSSSEDD OFF shes like u TARNISHED the night by SPILLING BLOOD, u absolute BEAST, Bruce gets there, some weird stuff happens that aged rlly poorly, then Nocturna stabs Anton to save Bruce, turns out she knows hes batman, again shes like marry me to have our son (Jason) and hes like no! and leaves. While Bruce tries to find Anton, Jason is like ive HAD IT i wanna go out, but Natalia stops him
then the next morning Amanda gets her head straight and talks to Jason
but well Jason is hellbent on exposing Natalia from the inside or w/e, and eventually she gets the custody, even if Amanda tries to convince him and the judge Bruce is a better choice (since she noticed Jason clearly favors him and was in pain when he wasnt at the wayne manor)
and everyone is coddling Bruce which im adding bc its cute and i miss this relationship Bruce had with Vicki and Julia
MEANWHILE, at the knight house. mad hatter is a a weird creepy rat bastard n tries to get control of Natalia & get the information of her brain or smth. Batman gets there & we get a Batman vs Controlled nocturna fight and then Robin also arrives and its Batman & Robin vs Nocturna, but B tells Jason to focus on getting Mad Hatter, which he does and then gets Nocturna back to normal whatever, and she again asks Bruce to marry her, which hes again like no thank u! the issue ends with this page which is rlly sweet imo
next up Anton is back but it doesnt matter rlly. a woman is tending to him, n because shes blind hes like. im batman. yeah. and she believes it.
AND then Jason is formally adopted by Natalia
Jason is still trying to find proof that shes evil, and they share a moment.
but jason is like. gotta fight crime! and so Natalia is like well i tried. wanna go be robin a bit?
Batman & Robin go after mad hatter, and then Nocturna joins them bc shes epic
and takes jay home bc its a school night smh
Natalia & Jason spend some time together but Jason still doesn’t warm up to Natalia which like. makes sense since shes a villain and all that, but she tries nevertheless
and then everyones most hated bitch comes back (Yes, anton) n he attacks Natalia, and then Jason when he hears the ruckus and goes to help
but gets a chop
but! Bruce was just on his way to visit them so
fight fight bruce gets shot in the head n gets amnesia and thinks the dude anton shot & killed was him
Anton swaps their costumes n makes Bruce believe that Anton is batman not him? or smth
afterwards Jason blames himself
and him & Natalia team up to find Bruce which includes.. carrying a corpse around
for three days (well. nights) anton just runs around stealing n shit dressed as batman, n bruce is. literally chilling on a rooftop. alfred is losing his mind bc !? jason hasnt contacted him!? about what happened!? but Julia comes home and comforts him
gotham is a lil in chaos with gordon vicki vale n bullock being suspicious, and the girl who was helping anton finds the stuff he stole and realizes hes not batman.
on the fourth night Jason n Natalia find Anton
n they fight him
but Anton gets the upper hand w Nocturna so Jason jumps in to defend her
and then Nocturna defends Jason bc thats his baby
but Anton doesnt get like. killed w that ofc, and hes like fuck u i’ll kill u one day but when the kid isnt here and after batman has fallen, bye (throws jason from building)
and Natalia reagroup n well.. some things are said
bc like even if Nocturna is helping shes a villain.. right? (thinking emoji)
meanwhile Bruce finally got his mind back. not important. who cares. the lady who was helping Anton goes to the police to tell them about Anton/fake batman dun dun dun. but Anton finds out and knocks out the policeman who went w the girl (Tina!) to check for proof n shit.
and guess whos back! amanda!
back to new dynamic duo
so Jason the little rascal (can i say hes a rascal when hes doing the hero thing n trying to expose a criminal?) goes looking for proof that Natalia is Nocturna n stuff, and finds some stolen things
1. singsonging.. hes such a little shit lmaoo, 2. she was worried… pause…
anyways. they have a confrontation
in which Natalia swears shes reformed, but Jason doesnt buy it, and is like. im gonna get gordon! and Natalia is like.. do what u think is best
but. he can’t do it..
n hes like. well shes not bad anymore.. i wish i could go back to bruce without sending her to prison which… please development.. n natalia DOES want his love..
AND THEN! BRUCE IS BACK! and he teams up with Nocturna to find Anton, but its just their luck Amanda sees them
they do sm stuff not relevant and then Bruce is like go back to ur son now, and Natalia is like.. OUR son :)
well whatever whatever they get Anton, Bruce goes back to being Batman, they clear his reputation, Jason goes back to the manor since Amanda saw Natalia, etc
(he munches he crunches) also im gonna add this that isnt relevant bc its just so funny, buenos dias alfred
anyways stuff hapens, like idk 14 issues without nocturna, the most important bit that happened is that selina is back. which she was gone. yeah. but shes back and around.
ANYWAYS! 15 issues later! shes back! some dudes entered her old observatory n were vandalizing and she was like hold up
meanwhile we have Jason calling amanda bc he well.. misses his mom and as much as he loves bruce and hes his dad its not the same for some reason
jason in every universe: i miss my mom i want my mom :(
at school Jason overheards some kids talking about Natalia in the observatory
Jason goes looking for Natalia n turns out Bullock was also trying to see what was happening in the observatory, so they kinda team up for two whole panels to find her
but Jason is like im not telling u shit.. n goes w Natalia on his own
google always taking pics
n they share a moment ;_____;
n theyre reunited.. now ur gonna have to excuse me bc i didnt download the high quality of the next tec issues n all the download links are sadly broken
but… what about natalia?
then bullock finds them
well bullock lets her go n while retelling the stuff to gordon he has.. a theory
meanwhile Nocturna.. well Nocturna is back at it again, taking charge of a band of thieves.. sigh.
anyways, they talk, theres something weird happening w the sky that may mean the world is ending or smth, and they make up AND make out
n they have a talk thats basically like. what now? should we be together? well depends if ur still gonna steal. i need funds to get the observatory back in track (HELLO BRUCE IS RICH HE COULD PAY IT..) and hes like oh so ur gonna be a thief again.. and shes like well havent u noticed im only stealing from corrupt rich politicians!? (QUEEN) n theres this gorgeous shot
n then they go their separate ways bc its fucking batman
anyways. Selina was also investigating the group of thieves (that were like black masks old gang but he was sent to prison so Nocturna took over etc) and she sees Nocturna leaving and follows her to the Observatory but.. Jason is there too
Selina wants her GOOOONE she needs to clear her name but Jason is like. over my dead body
n well ……. the girls are fightinggggggggggggggggggggggggg
but Bruce intercepts
n now Batman n Catwoman fight and its like the girls are fightingggggg… 2! but doesnt matter look at them
and then Selina gets struck by lightning
n then theres a earthquake bc god what a damn comic, and the observatory collapses, and Natalia is trapped inside
anyways Selina is in the hospital, Anton is still killing people and knows where she is and is trying to get to her, and this little scene happens with Jason n B
n while Bruce stays with Selina Jason goes to find Natalia which is so funny like. she went to Natalia, his mom, when Bruce told him to go home and well– we al know that story.
n now its a race to get to Natalia before Anton gets to her
n its rlly sad bc like Natalia is ready to die
n
but both Bruce n Jason are trying to reach her
and here comes Jason!
AND LIKE. the fact she wants to live after all bc of Jason rlly makes me emotional not gonna lie! not gonna lie!
and no offense but a mother’s love………………………………….. no thoughts head empty
first of all i hate anton so fucking much. secondly here comes batdad..
n Jason tries to help Natalia escape and then get back to Bruce who is getting his ass kinda kicked
guess whos coming in that helicopter.. selina freaking kyle.. the legend.. and she helps Bruce with Anton.
I REALLY DONT GET THIS TBH LIKE. he puts her into the giant balloon so she can get away but like shes hurt buddy shes gonna die up there..
and. shes gone.
n Jason is absolutely devastated
n like. Bruce. as always. is like ok champ i see u got it in control, lmk when u wanna go home
LIKE HES SO SAD.. OF COURSE HES SAD THAT WAS HIS MOM....
And thats. pretty much it. Natalia is gone.
However Jason still grieves her, and when Bruce and Selina are trying to get back together and... hes not a big fan of their relationship.. at all. But bruce tries to pair them up so they can become at least friends, since he loves them both and doesnt want to like. pick between his son and his lover
and they make a fine team, even if Jason grieving Natalia and how Selina doesnt want to take her place is brought up a couple times :(
and it gives it a bittersweet ending to the arc
and well. thats it. thats the Jason and Natalia dynamic.
Natalia reappers later post crisis but well w/o her connection to Jason.. and i really dont wanna talk about the version of her that appears in batwoman comics LOL.
conclusion: natalia was a bad lady, who at first wanted to use jason to get money from bruce, but then she had a change of heart, and development and became a kind of anti hero? well not antihero just.. she was trying her best man. i wish she hadnt disappeared like she couldve stayed relevant to jasons story without having to be romantically with bruce? bc if u read her comics u can see that she was killed off/voided for batcat to comeback which... typical batcat! anyways. i think she genuinely loved and cared for jason and that jason loved her and cared for her right back :(
#Anon#long post#jason todd#natalia knight#I think a lot of stuff about super early nocturna didnt age well BUT. IT GOT RETCONNED!! and she got a deserved redeption arc i think

BTS American Hustle Life Ep 5
Episode 4 recap: The first third of the episode was devoted to BTS doing chores; cleaning up their (absolute pigsty of a) dorm, doing laundry, food shopping. Afterwards they met the legend Warren G who took them on a tour of where he and a few other legendary rappers grew up. He comes across as a true gentleman and treats the band very nicely. His challenge was for each subgroup to write and record a song based on their lives. This allowed us to hear some of BTS’ thoughts about their experiences when joining the band. We (I) also learned more about each of the bandmembers personalities which hadn’t been so clear in previous eps and series.
All three groups came up with a great song and, while a tough call, Suga, V, and Jungkook won the challenge.
On to Ep 5!
So BTS is throwing party with Warren G; this will either be hilarious or a bit of a cringe fest lol but I’m glad Warren’s in a second episode 😊
Ooft that’s a fire and a half lol. Americans sure have got some bbq skills!
Aww poor Jimin wanting to get on with preparing the vegetables but Namjoon and V just keep eating them.
Lol at V challenging Jungkook to rock, paper, scissors and the loser has to eat an onion. Jungkook looks too calm and smug… and that’s why; V loses and has to eat an onion – and, ten seconds later, loses again. I wonder if it’s a running joke that V often loses at RkPS. These two are pinging me with a mix of brotherly and ‘partners in crime’ vibes.
Haha Jimin telling them both to do some work. He’s definitely coming across as more serious and hard working that in the first two series, bless him. Then he puts Jungkook in his place by beating him at rock, paper, scissors LOL. Jungkook is surprised!!
Jungkook and V then playing to see who the overall loser is and end up tying so they decide Jimin is the loser and make him eat some onion lol.
J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook playing around and dancing is the cutest thing <3
Oh my god, the sass from Jungkook rapping about Jimin being small (where did shy young Jungkook go lol??) and Jimin’s hilarious reaction of immediately trying to kick him <3 <3
Hahaha Suga and Jin trying to be sly about trying the bbq before the others and Jungkook calling Suga out on it. I love them getting Warren G to try Kimchi (Korean spicy pickled cabbage and other veg) and Warren G trying to act cool as the heat hits him.
Warren G asks about their lives and, wow, it seems that BTS spend a lot of time away from their friends and family. I get the feeling that even in Korea they work an awful lot and don’t get much down time. WTH? Jin has just admitted his family moved house quite a while ago and he hasn’t even seen it yet! That’s such a shame! It’s been 2 years since some of them have gone home?! OMG, that must be so hard, especially on the younger ones who might not have been ready to ‘leave home’ at that point. It’s clear they really do miss their families and some of them look close to tears talking about it, but I sense they don’t like to complain to the camera? They are such sweethearts and aww at Jimin saying he wishes he could take his parents to the nice places he gets to visit. Thank you Warren G for raising this topic and for talking about missing his own mother who died when he was in his 20s. You could tell that info hit some of them quite hard as many of them are close to that age.
*********************************************
So it’s a brand new morning, what’s in store for the band now? Aha, Tony is in to wake them all up. Jimin’s like a toddler in his crib excited to be greeted by his parent. Everyone else is like a teenager and needs to be crowbarred out of bed. LOL,at J-Hope being carried into the living room and plonked down on the sofa still half asleep. Double-LOL at Jungkook being woken up on the couch like a baby by Tony gently shaking a stuffed animal in his face lol.
Awww, bless them, they’re still half asleep – it’s like me when I’ve been reading fic till 4am and the alarm goes off at 9!
Right, so the new mission is to make a music video full of hip hop spirit and swag. Hip hop music videos normally include a super car, a mansion, and dazzling accessories.
Ahahahahahahahahahahaha, the tutors saying BTS’s videos are good but there’s not a lot of girls. From what I’ve seen so far there is a good reason for that Tony and N(ate?)!!!!! <flashback to the awkward-as-hell elevator scene in Rookie King and every other female encounter since>
Do I need to gird my loins For some potentially cringe-worthy BTS-female interaction in the near future?
Oh jeez Tony, you’re going to make BTS go out and find girls and talk to them. Even BTS are groaning at the thought LOL.
OMG, Tony and N are teaching them how to ‘approach girls’ and getting the lads to practice on them. This calls for some computer analogies
Hahahahahahahaha oh Jimin – smooth right up to when he needed to start the conversation and then: the operating system has encountered an error and must shutdown. RM did well until he hesitated in the convo and: this application is not responding. The program may respond again if you wait. Do you want to end this process. Yes. Jungkook surprisingly didn’t spontaneously combust but clearly had no clue how to chat anyone up (at least at this point). I mean, just going straight to “I like you”: this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shutdown. Quit all programs, and then restart your computer. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor. OMG, Tony and N just outright saying that V is the dumb blonde of the group!!!!!! I don’t know whether to insulted on V’s behalf or grudgingly admire their honesty cos…they kinda have a *teeny tiny* point… at least that’s how V has come across so far – maybe this changes as we get to know him more. OMG V, “nice watch, how much?” That’s like from a really bad foreign marketplace parody. *face palm*, can any of these lads act naturally with a girl? V-can-flirt-like-a-normal-human cannot be found ~ if the device is OFF, turn ON the device. Suga… he clearly wasn’t taking it seriously; The instruction at BE NORMAL referenced at ‘HOW TO TALK TO WOMEN’. The memory could not be written. Click on OK to terminate the program. J-Hope: The application failed to initialize properly. Click Close to exit the program. Jin: This version of flirting is not compatible with the version of swag you’re running.
Ahahaha them in the car trying not to fret about how they haven’t really “talked to girls” before. To be fair, this challenge is quite (embarrassingly) heterosexual (and mildly sexist) but, then again, this series was shot a number of years back and hip hop, IMO, used to be a low representatitve of LGBTQIA+. I do wonder if any of BTS are gay though, and, if so, if they knew at that particular moment? I’m aware of how Korean society views homosexuality and I can’t imagine if any of BTS are gay they would come out either while in the spotlight or before they’ve done their national service. Not that they owe anyone a public “coming out” – I could write essays on this and how dangerous it is to relate a celebrity ‘coming out’s to that of the everyday person. They both come with some specific pros and cons that don’t translate well to the other situation and can cause all sorts of danger. Anyway, I’m rambling now so let’s get back to the episode!
I think the story V tells really sums up BTS’s “girl skills”; when we were trainees, Jin-Hyung, Jungkookie (omg what a cute way of saying Jungkook’s name <3) and I did rock paper scissors to go and at least talk to a girl. We just told her she was cute, patted her head and left.
So they are going out in teams to pick up their girls for the music video. That might take some of the pressure off. Awwww at J-Hope cuddling Jimin in the car.
RM and Jimin are told to get out the car first – lol at Jimin saying he’s nervous.
Okay, so RM and Jimin’s attempt went about as well as I thought it would LMAO. V, Jungkook and Suga are just as bad. This is quite painful to watch. Ahaha Jin and J-Hope manage to convince a lady – although, again, it was quite painful to watch. It’ll be interesting to see how good their success was the next day.
Video shoot:
BTS arrive at the mansion for their shoot (same place 50 Cent shot one of his videos) and immediately go into ‘wide-eyed wonder and playful’ mode.
V rapping freestyle: From those seagulls that are flying high One of those got stuck to the moon And if they fall, they be stuck to our feet And that seagull with squirm like a human.
V, my lovely, even when we give some leeway to mistranslation, I think you better leave the lyric writing to maybe Suga or Rapmonster lol???!!!
Jungkook’s running a self-cam – I get the feeling he quite likes filming and being behind the camera rather than in front of it. Amusing for an ‘idol’.
Lol, BTS talking about their back up plan if the girls don’t turn up. They genuinely don’t think they’ve actually managed to charm anyone into actually turning up and if by some miracle they do turn up then it’ll be awkward LMAO.
Cute little interaction between RM and Jungkook as they agree it’s all so unlikely.
HAHAHAHAHA one of Jin and J-Hope’s ladies turns up – the others can’t believe it! My sides are aching from laughing at their expressions. Oh but then V, Suga, and Jungkook’s girl arrives too. I really think these girls were planted on the street to help the lads out but I’ll pretend that it’s all real lol. Ahahahaha Suga *hiding* with RM and Jimin so he doesn’t have to interact with the ladies. This band really doesn’t have any chill with the opposite sex.
Aaaand at the last moment RM and Jimin’s ‘girl’ turns up. Isn’t that such a coincidence that one lady for each group turned up… lol.
Interesting little remark there from Suga. When they go back to Korea they won’t be able to shoot music videos like these (presumably with ladies, bling, and the excesses that go along with the style of hip hop) until they retire? So is he openly admitting they have to act conservatively – or at least in a very specific way – in Korea until they retire (or at least end their contract)? Or is it that they won’t have the same opportunities/monetary funds to do videos like these?
Yeah, okay, those ladies are too chill at seeing Warren G. In fact, they are way too chill altogether – they’ve got to have been staged lol. I just don’t think BTS knew this was set up. I’ve kinda come to the conclusion already that some of them couldn’t act to save themselves.
Shooting time – all quiet on set!:
V was just doing his thing lol, poor Suga couldn’t even look at that woman ROFL – Jungkook actually did okay even though he was embarrassed and bright red (and sweating lol). I wonder what Warren G was thinking as he watched from behind the camera – if he is anything like me he would have been sitting there cackling to himself. LOL at Jungkook eating away his emotions. He’s definitely become a typical growing teenager; always hungry like a bottomless pit and yet no calorie seems to stick to his sides!
V!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again!!! *Outraged noises*. Teaching the lady “Jimin is dumb” in Korean, how dare you lol. Poor Jimin.
Hey, J-Hope’s got the swag and looks like he’s the only one. Jin looks like he’s about to shit himself *crying with laughter emoji*.
Jimin and RM are surprisingly confident with their lady too! LOL at RM for getting in the way of the camera and frustrating Jimin.
Ah-ha! – Jungkook having the guts to pat his eldest hyung on the head – he’s gained confidence in leaps and bounds!
Final musings:
Yet another enjoyable episode – despite being a little cringy in places. It was hilarious to see how shy and genuinely inept the band was around women. I can’t wait to see how the video turned out in the end.
Some nice, but also sad, insights into the realities faced by the band. Some of them haven’t been home in 2 years and as most of them seem to be quite close to their families it must be very hard – especially for the younger ones who might not have been ready to ‘leave home’ so early.
Really looking forward to the next episode!

Le Fleuriste Episode III:
WARNING: MENTIONS/USE OF ALCOHOL AND SMOKING
Word Count: 4,402
Summary: Lucas is confronted with the man of his dreams, as of one day of course. How will it go? Will Lucas fall deeper into love, or convince himself that Eliott isn’t the boy for him.
———————————————————————
Lucas spent the first few minutes after Eliott had sent the message standing on the sidewalk and staring at his screen. He exited the app and reopened it to make sure the message wasn’t a figment of his imagination and his mind wasn’t playing, what would be, a very mean trick on him. It wasn’t until his brain kicked into gear that he started to freak out.
“Oh my god, he really just-” Lucas didn’t know what to do. Here was the boy that he liked if he could even call it that seeing as it had only been one day since they met, saying that Lucas was beautiful and now all of a sudden Lucas didn’t know how to act. Maybe Yann would know? Lucas opened his messages and tapped on the conversation with Yann.
13:23 pm Lucas: YANN
13:25 pm Lucas: YANN JSNDJE
13:26 pm Lucas: LOIK AT RHIS
13:26 pm Lucas: [1 image attatchment]
13:27 pm Lucas: WHAT DO I DO?
13:31 pm Lucas: STOP FLIRTING WITH EMMA AND HELP ME
13:37 pm Lucas: you suck, i’m coming to the store
The walk back to King’s Grove felt like it took forever. Now that it was later in the day more people were outside. Some were running errands, some were just out walking, but all of them were in Lucas’ way. He lost count of how many shoulders he bumped into. It wasn’t until Lucas was pulling open the door to Frizzies that he let out the breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. Emma looked up from her place at the register as the bell above the door rang.
She smiled at him, “Lucas! You’re back.”
“Hi Em, do you know where Yann is?”
“We were just talking a minute ago,” Lucas mentally rolled his eyes, “he might be in the back? You’re welcome to go look.”
Lucas thanked Emma and headed towards the back room. He found Yann sitting at a table, eating a sandwich from the cafe. Lucas walked up behind him and lightly slapped his shoulder.
Yann whipped his head around, “Ow! What the hell?”
Lucas glared at him, “That’s for not answering my messages. I’m in the middle of a crisis, Yann!” Lucas sat down into a chair across from his friend. Yann rolled his eyes and shook his head.
“What are you talking about?”
Lucas opened up his phone to his messages with Eliott and slid it across the table, “This!”
Yann read the messages and looked back up at Lucas after a minute. The two stared at each other, but Lucas was the first to speak.
“What?”
Yann sighed, “Lucas… you know he can see that you read this right? And it’s been what? Almost two hours since he sent it?”
Lucas twisted his head around to find the clock attached to the wall, his eyes growing wide while reading 14:35, “Oh shit, oh my god. He probably thinks he creeped me out or something. I just didn’t know how to respond. Yann, I have to fix this.”
“Woah, breathe Luc. It’s gonna be okay. Just message him back and say thank you.” Yann reached over the table and laid a comforting hand onto Lucas’s shoulder.
“I know it seems like I’m overreacting, and maybe I am, but no one like Eliott has ever made me feel like this, Yann. It’s been less than 24 hours since I met the guy but I can’t get him out of my head. There’s something here that I don’t want to lose, I just don’t know what that thing is yet.”
Yann looked across the table at Lucas, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. Lucas may not know what it is, but Yann sure had a guess. Lucas had never talked about someone like this. After Lucas came out, the gang had promised to always have Lucas’s back, and they’d be his wingmen when needed. While most of the time, the boys failed to find someone up to his “standards” (though Yann would disagree with that statement, simply calling Lucas picky), Lucas was glad to have friends like them. Seeing Lucas so upset at the current situation, Yann knew that he truly didn’t want this to ruin his chances with Eliott.
“Well, we know he finds you attractive, so that’s a good sign, right?” Yann asked.
“I mean, yeah I guess,” Lucas shrugged, “but that won’t mean anything if he decides he doesn’t want to talk to me because I left him on seen.” Lucas put his head in his hands, “I’m usually able to talk to guys, why is this so hard?”
Yann chuckled, “Luc, I think you actually like this guy, that’s the difference.”
“That’s the thing though, I don’t even know anything about him. I know his name, his Instagram and where he works, but that’s it.”
“So? Find something to talk about, learn more about him. What do you think dates are for?” Yann raised an eyebrow, “I bet if you asked him to go out right now he’d say yes.”
Lucas raised his head, “Haha, very funny. Not happening. I don’t need to embarrass myself anymore just because you think he’d say yes.”
Yann raised his hands in mock surrender, “Hey, I’m just saying. When have I ever been wrong?”
“Well,” Lucas tilted his head to the side, “how about the time we went to that party and I said maybe we shouldn’t get completely wasted because we had a test the next day and you said, “Luc, we’ll be fine!” but we ended up missing that test because we were nursing our hangovers? Or there was the time you told Baz that the girl at the pretzel stand was hitting on him, so he went up there only to get a smoothie thrown in his face? And let’s not forget the time when the only milk left in the fridge was expired but you said it would be okay to drink and all four of us-”
“Okay!” Yann cut Lucas off, “There have been times where I was wrong, I get it. But I know I’m right about this.”
Lucas hummed in response, looking back at the open messages on his phone when Yann spoke up again, “What if you went to see him?”
Lucas’s head shot up at the suggestion, “You mean like right now?”
“Well, yeah. His store is just across the street, it’s not like you have to go far.” Yann was looking at Lucas, waiting for his reply.
“I don’t know, Yann.” Lucas sighed, “Wouldn’t be weird for me to show up to his store after not replying to his message. By accident.”
“Right. Well, as I said earlier, maybe just respond with a thank you and see where it goes? At least let him know you didn’t mind the compliment. With leaving him on seen he might think you aren’t interested.”
“I hate this. I’m gonna head over the cafe to get some lunch. Thanks, Yann.”
Yann smiled at him, “No problem, dude. We’ll figure this out.”
Lucas made his way out of the backroom and towards the front of the store. Emma was still at the register. Lucas said goodbye as he left the music store and headed across the street to the cafe. Lucas pulled the door open and stepped inside. All at once, he was hit with the smell of fresh-baked bread and lemon. He glanced around the cafe, spotting Manon behind the counter ringing a customer up and Alexia plating some pastries behind the glass display case. Lucas was here to eat lunch, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to update the girls on the Eliott situation. He made his way over to the line behind the register and looked up at the menu. He settled on a sandwich and, of course, one of their danishes.
“Hey!” Manon was looking at him with a smile on her face, “you’re back again! What can I get you?”
Lucas told her his order and Manon rang him out. It wasn’t until she was handing him his change that he added, “When you and Alex get a second, could I talk to you guys?”
Manon looked at him questioningly, “Is everything alright?”
“Yes! I think. I just have to tell you guys about the Eliott thing.”
A smile broke out on Manon’s face, “Oh! The Eliott thing, is that what we’re calling this? Once Alexia and I can catch a break we’ll come to find you.”
“Thanks, Manon.”
She nodded her head and Lucas went to go sit down. He picked a booth in the back corner, away from the late lunchtime rush. Lucas peered out the window and watched the people outside. There was an older man laughing at something the woman next to him said. There was also a little boy holding on to his mother’s hand as they walked down the cobblestone street. They reminded Lucas of himself and his mother when he was younger and everything was a little less complicated. Lucas didn’t hear the incoming footsteps, but the voice startled him out of his daze.
“Hi there.” It was Eliott.
“Uh, h-hi.” Lucas gulped, was Eliott angry with him? For not replying to his message?
“Is everything alright?” Eliott asked. “You look like you might faint.”
Oh god, Lucas would never be able to face Eliott again if he fainted. He needed to chill the fuck out. He could be suave right? He had been with the ladies once upon a time.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine, dude. Nothing to worry about here,” Lucas chuckled. “Just haven’t eaten in a while, you know?”
Eliott slid into the booth across from him. His knees brushed Lucas’ and Lucas couldn’t help but blush at the slightest bit of contact.
“Yeah, I haven’t eaten since breakfast this morning, business is always busy at Barney’s, especially during this time of year.” Eliott smiled at him.
God, that smile. All Lucas wanted was to be able to make Eliott smile, and kiss the apples of his cheeks when he did.
“I’ll be right back, I’ve been craving one of their danishes lately,” Eliott stood up and then turned back at Lucas. “By the way, you’re cute when you blush.”
Once Eliott had reached the counter and began ordering, Lucas finally felt his lungs give out from the breath he had been holding. This boy was so flirtatious, and Lucas had no experience in flirting, at least with men anyway.
Eliott returned to his seat across from Lucas, only to be greeted with Alexia carrying plates of food in her arms.
“Ham and cheese sandwich accompanied by a sweet cheese danish for Lucas,” Alexia retrieved Lucas’ plate and set it across from him. “And a cherry jam danish for the dashing gentleman.” Alexia smiled at Eliott and offered her hand. “I’m Alexia, you must be Eliott, the boy Lucas won’t stop talking about.”
Eliott glanced at Alexia’s hand before shaking it. “So he’s been talking about me?” Eliott grinned at Alexia before he cocked an eyebrow at Lucas, which only made Lucas blush harder.
“He sprinted in here this morning bright and early just for us to tell him all about you. However, he only ran into a dead end since we didn’t know much about you. The love in his eyes would make any woman melt or man in this case.”
Lucas slapped Alexia’s arm.
“Ow! What was that for?”
Lucas widened his eyes and nodded towards Eliott.
“Right! I’ll leave you guys alone. Have fun you two!” Alexia smiled and waved back at them as she was heading towards the counter to return to her duties.
“So, you’ve been talking about me?”
“Yeah,” Lucas felt cornered. Was he really going to confess his one-day-old crush to Eliott already? No, no way. “She’s just joking, you know how best friends are.” Lucas poked and prodded at his danish, embarrassed.
“Yeah, Idriss wouldn’t stop talking about how clumsy I was to Mrs. Lawerence one day when I broke two vases. The first time wasn’t even my fault! Ginger was the one who knocked the vase over!” Eliott shook his head and took a bite of his danish.
“Okay, wait, who’s Mrs. Lawerence and Ginger?” Lucas asked.
“Mrs. Lawerence was a good friend of my grandfather’s and Ginger is the cat that always hangs out in the garden behind the shop and sometimes hangs out inside during the summers, she gets herself into trouble.”
“I see,” Lucas chuckled, both at the story and the fact that he was starting to relax. “Hey, I’m sorry for not replying to your message earlier.”
“Oh! It’s okay, I figured you got busy or something,” Eliott took another bite of his sandwich. “I hope I didn’t freak you out or anything by what I said. I have a tendency-”
Lucas cut him off.
“You didn’t freak me out.”
“Good,” Eliott sighed in relief. “Would you like to hang out after this? If you’re not busy of course, we could go to the garden behind the shop. Maybe you can meet Ginger?”
Was Eliott asking him out on...a date? No, he couldn’t be. They’re just going to “hang out”, as friends do, not as boyfriends do.
“Yeah, sure,” Lucas took a bite of his sandwich. “I’d love to.”
———————————————————————
It was dusk now, the birds were singing peaceful lullabies and most of the shops were closing for the day, including Barney’s. Lucas followed Eliott into the alleyway.
“This looks like a great place for me to get murdered, great choice, Eliott,” Lucas chuckled at his own joke unless...was Eliott a serial killer?
“And then, Lucas was never to be seen again,” Eliott said and then laughed wickedly. “Seriously, I’m not a serial killer though.” Eliott finally unlocked the wooden gate leading to the oasis among the shops. “Welcome to my evil lair!” Eliott laughed maniacally again.
“You’re starting to creep me out,” Lucas chuckled and followed Eliott through the gate.
Lucas gaped at the garden before him. A gravel path trailed down the center of the garden. It was divided by another, less intimidating wooden fence than before, guarded by another gate. Behind the gate was a greenhouse that held fruit trees of many kinds as well as tropical flowers. A variety of trees and shrubbery surrounded the greenhouse. To the right of the greenhouse were wooden boxes, displaying newly sprouted plants from the soil, each marked by a popsicle stick that labeled the names of each row of sprouts. On the other side of the divided garden was what looked like to be a place for hosting and maybe being a place to get away from the busy shop life. Lucas knew he could spend hours here, especially with Eliott.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” Eliott asked, looking down and meeting Lucas’ eyes. “I used to come out here all the time when I was a kid, to paint and to read, I still do.”
Lucas jumped at the sudden contract at his feet with an orange cat, brushing between his ankles and it’s tail wrapping around his leg.
“This is Ginger, I’m assuming?”
“The very one,” Eliott squatted down to pet her and Lucas matched his stance. “She likes to be petted on her neck.”
“Here?” Lucas asked and touched Ginger’s neck to which she hissed and pawed at Lucas, catching him off guard. Lucas leaned back, missing Ginger’s claws.
“No,” Eliott laughed and reached for Lucas’ hand. He placed it on the side of Ginger’s neck. “See? Feel her purring?”
Lucas could feel it, but it wasn’t the only thing purring. Lucas’ heart raced and butterflies fluttered in his stomach. Eliott didn’t remove his hand. It was warm and comforting. He kept it there and felt Ginger’s purring with him. Lucas prayed it was too dark to tell that Lucas was blushing even though Eliott already called it cute.
Lucas felt the need to change the subject in order to keep his cool.
“So, you paint?” Lucas asked, glancing between Eliott and the cat.
“Yeah! I actually used to host art shows in this garden, but I mostly paint for myself now,” Ginger became fed up with Lucas’ atrocious petting technique and moved into Eliott’s lap, Eliott petted her tenderly. “It’s funny,” Eliott giggled. “I have this obsession with sunflowers.”
Lucas remembered the sunflower being held up in front of Eliott’s face on his Instagram profile.
“I assume that’s your favorite flower then?” Lucas asked, picking at the grass beneath him.
“It’s only the best choice as far as favorite flowers go,” Eliott explained, rolling the sleeves up of his grey sweater, revealing a tattoo of a flower with an eye in the middle along with another tattoo in a cursive script that Lucas couldn’t read in the dim light. “I mean, who wouldn’t choose that as their favorite flower? It’s bright and beautiful, it reminds me of summer no matter what time of year I look at it.”
Lucas smiled at the easy conversation. That’s how everything has felt so far with Eliott. Easy. He couldn’t even think as to why he was so nervous this morning, all he had to do was talk to him.
“Lucas, you look like you’re thinking hard about something,” Eliott stared at him and tilted his head like a confused puppy. “What is it?”
“I’m thinking…” Lucas trailed off. He couldn’t reveal how much this conversation meant to him. He couldn’t tell Eliott that his eyes had a certain sparkle no star could ever match when he talked about something that he was passionate about. Shit, for all Lucas knows, Eliott is straight. “about how much I want to see these paintings of yours.”
“Well, what are you waiting for? Let’s go!” Eliott jumped up and offered his hand to Lucas.
“Wait, now? Where are we going?”
“To my apartment!” Eliott exclaimed. Lucas saw Eliott’s frown in reaction to Lucas’ panicked look. “Lucas, you don’t have to go,” Eliott started giggling. “I promise I’m not a murderer.”
Lucas couldn’t let this get to him. This boy is straight, Lucas told himself. Nothing to worry about.
It wasn’t that Lucas was afraid of Eliott being a serial killer or anything of the sort, he was afraid that he would have his first kiss tonight, or his first time. A series of new experiences could happen tonight, one after another, but was Lucas ready for it?
“Says you! I bet your last victim is buried beneath me right now!” Lucas joked. Eliott’s expression remained unchanged. “I’m kidding.” Lucas took Eliott’s hand and stood up. He blushed at contact that sent shivers through his spine and butterflies soaring in his stomach.
“So, you’ll come with me?” Eliott smiled, still holding Lucas’ hand. Lucas nodded and felt Eliott’s thumb stroke his knuckles.
———————————————————————
At the end of King’s Grove were some apartment complexes, mostly for the shop keepers, but some hipsters and retired folks lived among them too. The buildings matched the rest of Annecy with a bright color palette. The apartment complex was only a short walk from the flower shop.
The two trailed up the stairs and were greeted by a white door with a wreath made up of delicate flowers including some Baby’s Breath from what Lucas could recognize.
“Cute wreath.” Lucas chuckled.
“I know, I know, it was a housewarming gift from Mrs. Lawrence,” Eliott unlocked the door. “Anyways, welcome to casa de Eliott.”
Lucas was greeted with a massive amount of greenery scattered about the apartment. There were flowers tucked in various vases and bottles, and pots of ferns and vines rested upon shelves. All of the plants were kept neatly trimmed and didn’t appear to be unruly. Along the walls were paintings of sunflowers in many styles, some realistic and others more cartoonish. The kitchen and the living room were joined together and felt spacious despite how small the apartment actually was. Lucas walked around in the living room as Eliott was looking for something to drink in the fridge. Lucas could spot what seemed to be a garden on the balcony.
“Don’t trip on Francine!” Eliott warned Lucas. Lucas looked down at the small pot of succulents at his feet. “She’s very fragile,” Eliott walked over, handing Lucas one of the beers he found in the fridge and moved “Francine” to the coffee table behind Lucas. “My apologies for all the plants, whatever we don’t have room for in the shop, I take home.”
“But you name your plants?” Lucas asked, twisting off the metal lid off the bottle.
“Of course! What do you think I am? Crazy?” Eliott grabbed his beer and twisted off the cap as well. “Cheers.” The two clinked bottles and took a drink.
“Well, I don’t own any plants to name, plus I’d kill them anyway,” Lucas approached the wall, studying one of the sunflower paintings. It was just a sunflower on a white canvas, but it was painted thick globs of paint that appeared still wet as if Lucas could mess it up with a single touch. “I like this one,” Lucas said as Eliott stood beside him.
“Me too,” Eliott smiled, admiring the painting before them, taking another drink from the bottle in his hand. “I feel like a sunflower is somehow the representation of me.”
“What do you mean?” Lucas asked, giving Eliott a puzzled look.
“Sometimes, I appear happy and people don’t see the darkness that goes on within me, you know?” Eliott’s bright smile left his face.
“Wow, that was pretty deep,” Lucas chuckled at his comment, trying to lighten the mood. “What flower do you think represents me?”
Eliott turned to face Lucas now, they were so close to each other. Lucas could feel Eliott’s breath on his face.
“I don’t know, I’ll have to think about it.”
It felt like Eliott was staring into his soul. Lucas could kiss him, right here, right now. He could push every fear aside and just kiss him. He could make their forever start today, he could-.
“Do you smoke?” Eliott asked, pulling a joint from his pocket.
“Oh, I used to,” Lucas stared at the joint. Getting drunk and high with Eliott? What could go wrong! “I still do sometimes, with my friends.”
Eliott nodded and lit the join between his lips, once he lit it he took a long drag and removed it from his lips. Lucas stared at the puff of smoke that escaped from Eliott’s lips. Fuck, he’s so hot.
Eliott offered Lucas the joint and he took it, taking a long drag from it and exhaling. He was starting to relax more and more as the alcohol and weed took effect. He felt himself beginning to unwind.
“God, I can’t believe someone like you names their plants,” Lucas said as he leaned back on the couch. “You’re, like, ridiculously handsome too, I bet women find it sweet as hell that a hot guy like you names his plants.” Lucas laughed and shook his head. Fuck, what was he even saying right now?
“They do,” Eliott laughed along with him. “My ex-girlfriend found it hilarious.”
So that was it, Eliott was straight. Lucas was just starting to think that he got lucky, being in the apartment and sitting across from the most beautiful man he had ever seen. That was it, the end of their forever, all over in the span of one day. Lucas felt a sob in the back of his throat, he could never change how Eliott saw him. He could never kiss those lips or play with his gorgeous golden hair. Back to the fucking drawing board.
Ping! Finally, something to pull Lucas out of his thoughts and get him out of here. He could breakdown at any moment.
22:17 p.m. Yann: Hey, Lu. I just got home. Where are you?
“Everything alright?” Eliott asked.
22:18 p.m. Lucas: yeah, sorry, i had a drink with eliott and lost track of time.
22:19 p.m. Yann: Oooooo. I hope I’m not interrupting! Are you still a virgin?
“Um, yeah, I should go. My friends are wondering where I am,” Lucas glanced up at Eliott, hardly able to look at him. Hard to think that Lucas possibly had a chance with a boy like Eliott.
22:19 p.m. Lucas: no you’re fine. i actually was just leaving. and yes, i am very much a virgin.
22:20 p.m. Yann: Lucas, I don’t want you to walk home by yourself. I‘m sending an uber for you. Send me your location.
22:20 p.m. Lucas: [Lucas shared his location with you]
Lucas stood up and placed his phone in his pocket. He headed for the door and Eliott followed.
“Lucas, are you sure you’re okay?” Eliott asked as Lucas stepped into the hall.
“Yeah, yeah fine. It’s just been a while since I was high,” Lucas lied. Well, not a total lie, but that wasn’t what was causing his sudden urge to bolt. “Been a while, you know?” Eliott nodded.
“I hope you feel better,” Eliott said, placing his hand on Lucas’ shoulder.
As much as Lucas didn’t want to feel the sparks and the butterflies, he did. Lucas smiled and waved before heading down the stairs.
Lucas reached the bottom of the stairs and waited for Uber to arrive. He hugged himself to keep himself warm from the cold breeze that was blowing. How could he be so stupid? Falling for a boy who is out of his league and is straight. He felt like a fool.
The Uber pulled up, rolling down her windows and greeting Lucas. Lucas was about to enter the car when he heard running footsteps and a voice.
“Wait!”
It was Eliott. What could he possibly want out of me? Lucas thought.
“Lucas, wait,” Lucas turned to meet Eliott jogging up to him. “Let me take you out tomorrow.”
“Out? Why?” Lucas asked, gazing up at Eliott. God, that face, he would never get tired of looking at it.
“I want to get to know you,” Eliott explained. Lucas was silent, thinking if he should really continue to break his heart more. “Please, for me, for us.”
Lucas couldn’t pass this up. He might not get his forever with Eliott as lovers, but he couldn’t pass up a forever with him as friends.
“I’d love to, Eliott.”

XXXXXXX
49 days post the fall of Troy
Shouto adjusted the wooden crate on his shoulder as he pushed his way through the suffocating hallway and out into the courtyard.
The pirates had arrived the evening prior, bringing with them much needed food and supplies. And, with the additional bodies, the house was overcrowded. A cacophony of curses and shouting ricocheted off the walls as fifty or so pirates spilled out of the various rooms and into the courtyard, unloading wooden crates and setting up quarters.
It made the house feel more like a military encampment or a shipyard than an orphanage. The whole scene was nostalgic, and Shouto was surprised by how at ease he felt.
He dropped the crate on the ground and drew in a deep breath as he ran a hand through his damp hair. He could feel sweat beading his forehead and sliding down his neck. He straightened and looked up.
The summer had been unnaturally hot, and that day was no exception. Even in the shade, Shouto felt the abrasive heat dancing along his skin, searing his flesh.
He wondered briefly if he could actually burn. His magic had always protected him from the heat in the past, but now that he couldn't access his powers, he wondered what would happen if he stood out under the scorching sun all day — or if he had to face Dabi again.
He looked down. Turning his arm, Shouto studied his skin for that telling reddening, but, as far as he could tell, it appeared the same. Perhaps his magic was still inside him? Shouto drew in a deep breath and tried to focus, but as he suspected, he still couldn’t feel anything.
Sighing, he looked up as movement across the yard drew his attention; his eyes immediately gravitating towards her, like they always did. Like the earth was pulled towards the sun.
Yaoyorozu stood at the fountain filling vases with water. She set one down and gathered her long, dark hair up, lifting it off her neck and fanning herself with her other hand. A light sheen of sweat coated her skin.
Shouto stared at her, and his fingers twitched. In the back of his mind he wondered, with how his eyes were pulled to her, if the story about soul mates were true. Had the human body once been composed of both male and female halves? Perfectly balanced, with the male half created from the sun and female from the earth, before Zeus separated them. Forcing the separated souls to roam the earth looking for their other half?
He pressed his lips into a hard line and dismissed the thought. It was only a myth, and while some myths were rooted in fact, this one couldn’t be true. It would mean that he was capable of love and being loved.
As if feeling his gaze, Yaoyorozu looked up, and her onyx eyes met his. They stared at each other for a long moment before her expression abruptly flickered, and her lips thinned. She dropped her hair and turned back to her task.
Shouto’s chest tightened, and he looked away. His hands twitched slightly at his sides, and he brought his left up to rest on Endeavor’s hilt. What was he thinking? He knew Yaoyorozu didn’t want anything to do with him.
She may have started speaking to him again, but it felt forced. He could see it in her expressive face. She spoke to him with a cautious air, as if she thought he’d transform into a monster at any second.
And could he blame her?
He'd fucked up.
Shouto rolled his jaw. He hadn’t meant to force himself on her that night. But, when she looked at him so vulnerably under the moonlight, the curse had activated, pushing him to kiss her. Or at least, he had thought it was the curse that had forced him to lean down and capture her lips -
Fuck. He closed his eyes and pressed his right fist into the center of his forehead. He was no better than his bastard of a father.
Shouto felt his insides curl at the thought. It had been haunting him since the incident, swirling in the back of his mind. He inhaled slowly as the sour taste of guilt, which was becoming all too familiar, filled his mouth.
Where had he gone wrong? Hadn’t he promised himself that he would never be like his old man?
What a fuck up.
He unfurled his fist and rubbed at his temples.
It had been their first real conversation too, and he had ruined it by acting impulsively on imagined feelings.
He didn’t know why the curse had made him think that Yaoyorozu would be okay with him suddenly kissing her. Shouto reasoned it was some misplaced fantasy derived, most likely, from the magic and the hope that she’d felt the same pull as he had that night.
But, of course, she wouldn’t feel the same way. Yaoyorozu wasn’t under the influence of a curse. She was only entertaining him to maintain her side of their bargain. That’s why she had apologized last week and why she still forced herself to speak to him. It was because she thought she had breached their agreement, not because she cared for him.
Shouto dropped his hand and raised his head to watch some of the pirates set up tents in the courtyard. Slowly, he loosened his hold on Endeavor’s hilt.
Fuyumi had raised him to be better than this. Even if it was within his rights as Yaoyorozu’s master, was he really so weak that all it took was a little push from a spell for him to start forcing himself onto an unwilling woman? Hadn't he promised himself, after seeing what that bastard had put his mother through, that he'd never make a woman do something against her will?
And not only that, he had kissed her twice. Shouto sighed. He should have apologized properly last week when she had.
And maybe he should’ve told her about the curse.
The thought made his stomach twist viciously, and he clenched his jaw. It was hard enough for him to admit to himself that he had been cursed, but thinking of speaking it aloud made him feel sick. And angry. It felt like a moral and physical failing on his part.
Sparta’s top warrior brought to his knees by a low-level fucking god.
Shouto swallowed over the bitter taste of pride that had lodged itself in the back of his throat like a stone. He ran a hand through his hair before unconsciously glancing back at Yaoyorozu as she continued to work.
Maybe there was another way to apologize? It wasn’t like he expected her to ever fall in love with him, but maybe they could have a tactical peace. And, if he ever could get the magic under control, maybe they could even be on friendly terms.
The sound of cursing and grunts from the doorway broke through Shouto’s thoughts. He turned to watch as two pirates emerged from the hallway carrying crates identical to his own. Shouto stepped to the side as the men dropped their boxes on the ground next to his with heavy grunts.
“Fuck, that was heavy,” one of the pirates said, as he straightened and cracked his back. He was slim with short brown hair. “I can’t believe this is only vegetables. It feels like Emi has stuffed a body or two in there as well.”
“Stop complaining, Haimawari.” The other man looked up at Shouto as he wiped at his brow with the back of his arm. He had black hair down to his shoulders, which he had tied into a low braid. And the skin on his arms looked dry and flaky, reminding Shouto of a reptile’s scales. “Hey, Todoroki,” he said hesitantly.
The other man, Haimawari, turned to look towards Shouto as well and smiled. His expression lacked the hesitation of his companion’s.
“Thanks for the help, Todoroki. I’m Koichi Haimawari, but you can call me Crawler, and that’s Rin Hiryu,” he said, pointing with his thumb over his shoulder to the man with black hair tied in a braid.
Shouto nodded slowly. “It’s not a problem.” He dropped his hand from Endeavor’s hilt as he turned towards the two.
Haimawari’s expression flickered, and his eyes glittered as he took a step towards Shouto. “But you’re a beast, Todoroki!” he said excitedly. A genuine smile spread across his face. “Being able to carry your crate so fast up the mountain. We were struggling.”
“You were struggling,” Hiryu emphasized under his breath.
Haimawari ignored him as he continued. “And you are unexpectedly nice,” he said with a laugh. “When the aurai showed up and told us that you’d be here, I placed a bet with some of the other men that you would be an actual monster — like the stories — but you’re a lot nicer than people give you credit for.”
“Crawler, you can’t say things like that to people’s faces,” Hiryu whispered behind him, grimacing.
Shouto’s lips twitched. He had never been the social type, but he found himself not hating the two pirates. If anything, Shouto felt the weight of his earlier thoughts fade slightly. “And you don’t seem particularly like pirates.”
Haimawari grinned. “Well, most of us weren’t. Emi saved us.” He lifted his chin in pride. “We are living upstanding lives now.”
Shouto snorted; he highly doubted that.
“Most of us were slaves or from overtaken villages in the South,” Hiryu clarified, stepping up next to Haimawari. “You wouldn’t think it, being a pirate and all, but Emi makes us decent. Unlike others, we only steal from the Persians.”
Shouto nodded but didn’t know what else to say to that. It wasn’t his place to judge others; the gods did that enough for everyone.
At least, they didn’t seem that bad.
“Hey,” Haimawari said suddenly, clearing his throat. “Todoroki, you seem to be the type that’s really popular with the ladies. What do you do when a woman’s angry?”
Shouto blinked. “What?”
Hiryu rolled his eyes. “Here we go again.”
Haimwari ignored him. His eyes glittered as he looked at Shouto. “I’ve got this really cute girl back in Crete. We actually met when we were younger — I saved her from drowning. Anyways -” He waved his hand. “I was thinking that it's about time I settle down and start a family, but I haven’t been very good at staying in contact with her, so what does a man do to win a lady’s affection and say sorry for not being around?”
“Beg for forgiveness. And pray to the gods that she doesn’t kick you out,” Hiryu said seriously, without missing a beat.
Shouto’s lips twitched.
“Hey!” Haimawari’s eyes narrowed. “I’m being serious.”
“Okay. Okay,” Hiryu said with a soft laugh. Then he tilted his head back and rubbed his chin. “Well, when I get on boss’ bad side, I usually get her a present,” he said thoughtfully.
“A present?” Shouto echoed, tilting his head slightly to study Hiryu.
“Yeah, women love getting things,” Hiryu said with a firm nod. “Like fancy outfits and jewelry and food.” He counted on his fingers.
“Oh, I see,” Shouto said.
“Why? What do you usually get women?” Haimawari asked, his expression intent.
Shouto tilted his head back in thought. “I don’t know.”
Haimawari’s expression flickered in annoyance. “Oh, the life of a good-looking man. You have it so easy.”
“Crawler! Scales!” someone called from inside. The two pirates looked up.
“Anyways, we’ll talk to you later,” Hiryu said. Shouto nodded, and Hiryu smiled.
“There’s a couple more crates we have to grab before it gets dark,” Hiryu said in conclusion, pulling Haimawari after him back into the house.
Shouto watched them disappear inside before he turned his attention back to Yaoyorozu.
While they had been talking, three pirates had stopped pitching tents and had instead moved over to Yaoyorozu’s side, crowding around her as she offered them water. They smiled shyly at her and rubbed at their necks as they spoke to her.
Shouto’s jaw clenched, and he felt his hand touch Endeavor’s hilt again as he watched.
His lips thinned. Red anger built in his throat, and he swallowed thickly as he tried to push the feeling down. Yaoyorozu could take care of herself. He'd seen her ward off a group of soldiers alone, so she could handle three men. And they weren’t doing anything but speaking to her.
The thought didn't make the knot of annoyance in his throat any looser.
Shouto sighed and looked away as he tried to shift his thoughts back to what Hiryu had said about women. Presents, huh? He tried to remember what he used to get Fuyumi whenever she had been upset.
Flowers.
And bugs.
He snorted slightly at his childhood memory before his expression hardened, and he looked down at the ground. There was a haze dancing above the earth. Everything in the yard had shriveled weeks ago. Flowers weren’t going to be an option. Shouto tilted his head back in thought.
He really wasn’t good at this.
"What's on such a handsome man's mind that he’s just standing out here?” a feminine voice teased from behind him. “Were you waiting for a beautiful lady, like myself, by chance?"
Shouto stiffened and looked down as a petite woman slipped up next to him. His lips twitched. “Shouldn’t you be helping?” he asked dryly.
“That’s a man’s job,” Emi Fukukado said with a light, airy laugh. She pushed green-dyed bangs behind her ear and turned her head to stare up at him from the corner of her eye. “Besides, I don’t want to break my nails.”
Shouto lifted an eyebrow. “Seems like you only like to say that when it’s convenient.”
She giggled, her eyes turning into crescent slits as she placed her hands on her hips. “Perhaps,” she said in a singsong voice, lifting her chin. “But I’m the captain, so I get to decide the rules.”
Shouto snorted softly.
Fukukado shifted, dropping one of her hands from her hip. Her expression flickered, and she changed the subject. “I heard from Nejire that most of the Greek soldiers are still fighting their way back home. The gods weren’t happy with their temples being ransacked and have been making it difficult for the troops sailing home. Have you heard anything from yours?”
Shouto nodded faintly. “Yeah, the aurai said that Bakugo got our troops back to Sparta, fortunately.”
The pirate captain’s eyes flickered. “That’s good. I’ve heard the king of Ithica has practically disappeared off the face of the earth. I would think your father wasn’t too happy to lose either.”
Shouto’s lips twitched. “No, he wasn’t.” His fingers tightened around Endeavor’s red hilt, and he could feel the metal biting into his skin.
Fukukado hummed. “I see,” she said thoughtfully, tilting her head back. “I was actually surprised to hear you fought for the Greeks instead of aligning with him.”
Shouto studied the pirate captain. “I may have Ares’ blood, but I was raised in Sparta. My loyalty lies with the two princes, Bakugo and Midoriya,” he said after a moment, avoiding her gaze.
Across the yard, the three pirates were still speaking amiably with Yaoyorozu. One said something, and she brought her hand up and laughed softly.
“You know,” Fukukado said. “If you keep glaring like that, my men are going to catch on fire.”
He turned around and scowled down at the pirate captain.
“Eep! There it is! The fierce glare of Sparta’s top warrior. Just kidding.” She laughed, holding up her hands in a placating gesture. “But why don’t you go to talk to her?”
Shouto rolled his jaw and looked away. “She doesn’t want to talk to me,” he muttered under his breath.
Fukukado raised an eyebrow. “Why do you say that?”
Shouto sighed. “I made her angry.”
She hummed. “I see. I see,” Fukukado said sagely, crossing her arms and leaning back on her heels as if she knew all the answers. Perhaps she did. Women were a mystery, no one understood them except other women. “Yet, she keeps looking over here.”
Shouto’s heart skipped, but he pushed the feeling down and twisted his mouth into a thin line. “She’s probably scared and wants to make sure I’m not going to get angry.” He narrowed his eyes at Fukukado and changed the subject, “What did you want from me? I can’t imagine it was just talking about the Greek troops returning home.”
“Oh, you’re observant.” Shouto jerked as Fukukado slapped his back. “Nothing much. I’m bored. Aizawa and I were supposed to catch up on our future marriage over drinks, but he’s not here.”
“He’ll be back soon. He just went to put out another bushfire,” Shouto said, adjusting his chiton.
“Yeah, yeah. He said that,” she added with a playful pout. “It seems like he’s been busy, though. With the new kid and hosting you three, it sure has been active for that old man.” She laughed.
Shouto shifted. “If you don’t have anything important to talk to me about, then I’m going to go help unload more crates. We only have an hour or two before the stymphalian become active,” he said, taking a step back.
“That’s no fun,” Fukukado whined. “I need a drinking buddy.” She tilted her head back and looked up at the sky; muted hues of orange and red surrounded the sun as it slipped closer towards the horizon. “But — it is strange — the stymphalian were never like this before, that’s why Aizawa liked this island.”
Shouto stilled for a moment, but Fukukado didn’t say anything else.
XXXXX
Shouto made his way back to the front of the house, the pirate captain’s words sitting heavily on his mind. He had been paying extra attention to the monsters’ activities ever since his conversation with Yaoyorozu a week ago.
It was subtle, but it was becoming apparent that the stymphalian were acting strangely; it was as if they were saving their strength for something. And the fact that Fukukado also seemed worried troubled him more than he wanted to admit.
Shouto briefly contemplated whether a god was involved, but it was too hard to tell. The island was filled with the scent of magic. But it was unlikely — the gods favored using humans to do their bidding; using monsters was considered beneath them. Still, it was strange. With the bushfires that the stymphalian had been setting and the recent prints around the orphanage, it was hard to argue that they weren’t up to something.
Shouto stepped outside. The aurai was busy playing ball with Eri and Hime as the men brought up the last of the crates. He could make out the white cloth of the pirate ship’s sails docked over the hills to the south.
“Todoroki! Come play with us!” the aurai called playfully.
He looked back at the nymph as she floated over the girls’ heads. She had faithfully told Midoriya his message, so perhaps she wasn’t as bad as he had originally thought. “Not right now,” he said absently as movement from the east side of the mountain caught his attention. Shouto turned to see Aizawa and Tokoyami making their way back up the winding path.
Eri dropped the ball they were playing with and ran towards the orphanage master. Aizawa crouched down as she held up her arms, and he leaned forward to hug her. “See? Nothing to worry about.”
Shouto looked to Tokoyami as he walked past him. “How was it?” he asked.
Tokoyami paused, his yellow-bird like eyes hardening for a moment as he surveyed Todoroki. Then, he shook his head and answered. “The stymphalian have figured out how to be even more annoying than they already were -” He hesitated. His gaze flickered towards the children before looking back at Shouto. “They left some half-eaten boar carcasses for us with the intestines all pulled out and arranged in strange shapes,” he said quietly.
Shouto’s jaw tensed. "Do you know what they were?"
Tokoyami shook his head again. "No, but I have a bad feeling. We must do our utmost to stop them."
Shouto nodded, and Tokoyami dipped his head and swept past him back inside. Shouto turned his attention back to the orphanage master.
Aizawa slowly stood up, holding Eri in his arms. His black eyes flickered towards him. “Todoroki, I need to speak to you. Nejire, take Hime and Eri back inside.”
“Okay!” the aurai said, smiling brightly and returning to the ground. She took Hime’s hand and reached out for Eri. The little girl wrapped her arms tighter around Aizawa’s neck.
“It’s okay. I’ll be right there. I just need to speak to Todoroki.”
Eri looked up at Aizawa’s face and then nodded faintly. He put her on the ground, and she took the aurai’s hand as she followed the nymph back inside.
Aizawa watched them return inside, before motioning for Shouto to follow him. They walked out to the edge of the hill, and then, Aizawa stopped and pulled a leather pouch from his chiton.
“Here.” Azawai tossed him the bag.
On instinct, Shouto caught it. The pouch tinkled as it landed in his palm. Shouto hesitated and then opened the purse to find a handful of silver drachma. Enough to live comfortably for a year. Shouto looked up at Aizawa and raised a brow.
“Change,” Azawai stated. “For the gold bracelet and your help.”
Shouto nodded and drew the strings on the pouch closed and tucked it into his belt. He looked back at Aizawa. The older man seemed to be studying him. “How’s your eye?”
Shouto shrugged slightly and looked away. “Better. It’s not perfect, but I can see out of it.”
“Good.”
“And your magic?”
Shouto stiffened. “What about it?”
Aizawa turned and looked back out at the ocean. “You haven’t used your magic since you arrived.”
“It’s fine,” he bit out, avoiding the orphanage master’s gaze as he looked out at the pirate ship in the distance.
The bright light of the sinking sun began to cast soft rays of red and orange across the blue sky. As Shouto looked out at the pirate ship, a shadow flickered in his periphery.
Shouto froze. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end.
It was only for an instant, but he was sure he had seen something move in the fading light. He brought his hand to Endeavor’s hilt and squinted into the brush.
“Todoroki, what is it?” Aizawa asked. His voice was tense.
Shouto’s lips thinned, and he tightened his hold on his sword. “I don’t know. I thought I saw something.” The words had barely left his mouth when it hit him.
Dark magic.
It was so thick in the air; he could almost taste it.
Stymphalian.
They had never come out this early before; Apollo hadn’t even finished pulling the sun across the sky yet, but the magic was unmistakable.
“Get inside!” he shouted.
Aizawa nodded sharply. “Hold them off!” He turned and took off back towards the house.
Another shape flickered. Closer. To his left.
Shouto pulled out Endeavor and took a step forward. Aizawa was almost at the door. He just needed to keep the stymphalian busy until they got inside.
Razor-sharp feathers suddenly shot out of the bushes on his left. Shouto raised Endeavor, blocking the stymphalian’s attack, but his spatial awareness was off, and the attack knocked him off balance. Shouto twisted, catching himself from falling. He looked up. The hillside was filling with stymphalian. They had used the bushes and shadows of fading sunlight to surround the house.
From his right, a shadow emerged, launching itself at Aizawa’s retreating back, its talons outstretched. Shouto lunged forward, and with a quick movement, cut the legs off the creature. The stymphalian screamed in pain as its body skidded across the ground.
Another stymphalian leapt at him, and Shouto spun and buried Endeavor in its throat. From the corner of his right eye, he saw the rest of the stymphalian dash after Aizawa into the house.
Shouto cursed. He pulled Endeavor out of the creature’s neck and rushed after them.
The house was a war zone. Screams ricocheted through the hallways, and the tile was already slick with blood. Bodies and limbs lay scattered throughout the rooms. They had been caught unaware.
He wondered if any of them were Yaoyorozu’s.
Shouto's stomach plummeted. He hoped she had stayed outside. He hurried along the corridor, checking each body quickly. None were her. He almost breathed a sigh of relief but forced himself to move on.
He knew that she was smart and a fairly good fighter, but that didn't lessen the sudden worry he felt for her well being. Shouto ground his teeth.
A woman’s voice sounded from the courtyard. It was Yaoyorozu’s. He was sure of it.
Shouto rushed towards the back door.
Sharp-edged feathers suddenly shot out of one of the side rooms to his left. Shouto twisted, but not fast enough.
He stumbled back, glancing down, and found feathers embedded in his arm. Blood was flowing freely down his arm. He hissed through his teeth as he pulled the feathers out.
A couple of stymphalian had emerged from Aizawa’s storeroom. The corridors were too tight for their winged bodies, but they were also too narrow for Shouto to be able to swing Endeavor around easily. He snarled and slid into a defensive stance.
One of the stymphalian sprang forward. Shouto readied himself, but before the stymphalian’s talons could clash with Endeavor, two pirates jumped in front of him, paring the creature’s steel feet.
Shouto’s eyes widened as the men pushed the stymphalian back. It was the pirates from earlier.
“Don’t worry,” Haimawari said, bringing his sword up.
Hiryu moved closer. “We got this. Go help everyone else,” he shouted, stepping up next to Haimawari. “We’re used to fighting in narrow spaces.”
Shouto nodded and turned, rushing out towards the courtyard and the sound of metal clashing.
The yard was bathed in dusty blues and reds of the setting sun and the thick stench of blood. The tents that the pirates had erected earlier were torn piles of cloth on the ground. The flock of stymphalian had climbed over the wall and roof and destroyed everything in their path.
Shouto looked up, and his eyes immediately fell on Yaoyorozu fighting on the second floor. Asui and Eri were with her.
Immediately the tightening in his chest lessened as he watched her slash one of the creatures. She could do this. She wasn't weak. Shouto took a quick breath and forced himself to survey the rest of the chaos.
Everyone was spread out.
Some of the pirates were on the roof, trying to keep the stymphalian from landing. Aizawa and Tokoyami were taking down the few in the courtyard, but with the sun not yet set, Tokoyami's power wasn't as effective.
He tightened his hold on Endeavor’s hilt and rushed forward. A stymphalian turned to attack, but the creature wasn't quick enough. Shouto's blade slid through its chest. He twisted and pulled his sword out and jumped back as feathers rained down onto where he had stood.
There was a scream. Shouto spun. A pirate fell back, metal talons embedded in his chest. Shouto leaped at the creature, cutting its head off with a clean movement.
He knelt down to check the man’s pulse. It was faint but still there. He was lucky.
A child’s high pitched scream rang out through the yard. Shouto looked up sharply. A stymphalian had grabbed hold of Eri. It had sunk its talons into her shoulder.
“Eri!” Aizawa roared, shooting knives at the creature, but it flexed its steel wings, and the knives bounced off.
Eri screamed in pain as she tried to pull herself free. The stymphalian moved, beating its wings as it pulled her from the veranda. Asui tried to jump for her, but it was too late — the monster was already out of reach.
The aurai darted at them, aiming some sort of sparkling, yellowish magic at the creatures, but as if in sync, the flock suddenly took flight, filling the sky with their steel wings. The aurai’s magic hit against their wings and bounced off, ineffective.
Shouto’s breath caught in his chest. His mind raced. It wasn’t possible. It couldn’t be possible. The stymphalian weren’t supposed to be smart enough to think of strategies like this, but they had.
The stymphalian carrying Eri climbed higher into the darkening sky.
There was no time to think further. The creatures were focused on blocking the aurai and the pirates shooting at them from the roof. The window to take down the monster with Eri was closing. Shouto tightened his fingers on Endeavor’s hilt, pulled his arm back, and flung his sword.
Endeavor whirled through the air, cutting through the stymphalian’s unprotected neck. Its head toppled off, and the creature’s talons released Eri. She plunged towards the ground.
Shit.
She’d hit her head and crack her skull open.
Suddenly, Yaoyorozu jumped from the veranda and grabbed the girl mid-air, tucking her head into her chest. They hit the ground together with a loud thud.
Shouto’s eyes widened. It felt like all the air had been sucked out of his lungs. He couldn’t breathe. His insides felt like they had cauterized as he staggered towards them.
Then, Yaoyorozu sat up slowly, and Shouto almost fell down in relief.
She was safe.
She was safe.
She was safe.
He drew in a deep breath when a feral screech of rage sounded to his left. Shouto wiped his head around, and his eyes widened as his gaze landed on the last stymphalian.
It was rushing across the yard towards Yaoyorozu.
Her eyes were dazed as she stood up shakily, Eri in her arms. She hadn’t noticed the creature yet.
Everything within him went cold. Shouto’s vision narrowed, and he stumbled forward.
He needed to get to her. He needed to save her.
Shouto broke out in a cold sweat as he lunged forward. He grit his teeth. He could taste a metallic tang on his tongue. There was no other sound besides the rushing of blood in his ears.
His heart was beating rapidly. Everything around him blurred as he bolted across the yard.
It was almost on her.
He wouldn’t be able to make it in time.
Yaoyorozu’s eyes suddenly widened, and he could see the fear flicker across her features as she finally registered her surroundings.
Then something white and hot exploded inside him, and Shouto felt inhuman strength rush through him.

Notes:
Sorry, I know there wasn’t a lot (any) of TodoMomo interaction in this chapter, but hopefully it was enjoyable enough. ^^; I always feel bad posting when TodoMomo doesn't interact, but this chapter was needed to set up the climax. I promise next chapter there will be more!
Notes: 1. “Sun to the Earth” - this line, used earlier, is actually in reference to a Greek myth around soulmates. According to Greek mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. The gender of humans had to do with their origin; the Men were children of the Sun and Women were the children of the Earth. In this state, humans were said to be incredibly powerful. And fearing their power, Zeus split humans into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves. Apollo, feeling bad for them, sewed them up, leaving just the navel as the only reminder of their original form. So, humans went from double face and double sex creatures with eight limbs, to single faced ones of a single sex, with two arms and two legs. And they forever longed for their soul and physical other half. Their physical nature would feel a burning desire to be completed with the physical nature of the other sex, and their soul alike would yearn for their soul’s other half be complete, their soulmate.
2. Persia - Persia, which would have been in modern day Iran, built their empire around 550 b.c. At the empire’s height, would have encompassed modern-day Iran, Egypt, Turkey and parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. They were generally considered the enemy of Greeks.
3. King of Ithaca - this is a reference to Homer’s epic poem, Odyssey. The story is about the King of Ithica, Odysseus, trying to get back home after the Trojan war. To sum the story up, he angered the gods on his way home, and so they blew him off course and he spent 10 years trying to get home. Harsh...
4. Koichi Haimawari “Crawler” - is from the spin-off Vigilante series of Boku no Hero. In this he’s a pirate. I’ve actually never read Vigilantes so sorry if his personality is completely off.
5. Hiryu Rin - is from class 1-B. In this he’s a pirate.

AU because no one died in Endgame, Steve didn’t go back. I can’t move on.
Summary: You’re taking your niece and nephews Trick or Treating proves to be an event in itself, but running into three of the Avengers was not part of your plan.
No beta and so I only own the mistakes and the reader!
Trick or Steve
Take the kids trick or treating your sister said. It will be fun she said.
And so here you were, taking yet another picture of yet another group of knock-off Avengers at precisely six thirty on the evening of Halloween, listening as your two nephews and niece squealed over the men dressed in painstakingly obvious mass produced costumes. They had been nice enough sure, one poorly body painted Hulk giving the kids some of the candy out of his bag when they complained the houses they had been hitting during the night were being stingy with their offerings. A very tan, we’re talking spent- his-whole-summer-on-a-cruise-ship –in-the-Bahamas tan Hawkeye helping the youngest of the three pose correctly. It was quite cute.
“My feet hurt!” The five year old aforementioned child whined and you were suddenly aware of two things.
One, you were in no rush to have children of your own.
Two, you were entirely too sober for this.
~~~Earlier~~~
“Andy will you stand still? I need to fix your left wing.” You huffed, hot glue gun locked and loaded as you stared down at the fidgeting five year old. The living room was silent other than the preening of your sister, too caught up in snapping a thousand pictures to help you with her own kids. Gee thanks for the help Sis.
Your peripheral vision caught your niece reaching to grasp at her newly straight long blonde hair, your voice making her jump. “Hana don’t touch your hair it’s still hot from the straight iron!”
“Yea Hana leave your hair alone!” Her twin brother mocked whilst opening his third piece of candy. You raised an eyebrow as you directed your playful scolding his direction.
“Liam you take one more piece of candy out of that dish and I’m not taking you!”
“Sorry Ant.” The chorus of small voices around you had a hint of a smile cracking at your lips as you tried to remain stern. After a few extremely short minutes of holding Andy’s cardboard wing at a forty five degree angle, it looked like you had finally managed to get them even in height.
“There! Everyone ready to go?” You sat back on your heels to look at the three, a big smile overcoming your features as they all got excited over their outfits.
“But Ant,” Andy exclaimed, pointing to your sock clad feet, “You’re not wearing any shoes!”
“Thanks Buddy, you’ve just saved my entire Halloween!” You snatched your nephew and flew him through the air of the living room, the small human giggling and squealing as you made whooshing noises, his arms out in front of him. Whatever kept him in good spirits and helped the glue dry faster. Placing Andy on the floor of the foyer you made a quick grab at your heeled boots that sat by the door, zipping them up to just above your knees before standing to look in the mirror.
The black tactical suit you had made yourself looked great, the matte fabric the perfect choice for your costume. You had taken a few liberties with the original suit design, trading the slightly loose pants for something a bit more feminine and curve hugging, eighty-sixing the knee coverings and opting for sleek heeled boots instead of chunky combat ones. You were sure your feet would hate you later, but Carpe Diem right? The black straps and buckles were still covering the top half of you, although you had chosen to turn them into more of a corset of sorts, your chest pushed up under the dark gray vest you had made. It wasn’t overly cool outside so you went sleeveless, allowing for more mobility. You readjusted your hair, smoothing away any fly aways of your current bobbed style. At least you didn’t have to wear a wig. Readjusting the straps that held your very fake guns to your thighs you wrapped your hands around the handles of the three appropriately painted jack o’lanterns, the plastic thunking together as you passed them to their owners, the kids pooling around you to get a final group picture. You headed out into the crisp air as your sister waved you on, saying she and her husband would see you all later at Maria Hill’s party.
That was an hour and three groups of Avenger wannabes ago.
Of course the kids all but tackled their respective counter parts, save for Andy. You felt bad that no one had dressed up as Falcon yet, but you were constantly assuring the slightly upset child that he would see him tonight. You hoped anyway.
It was when you finished sacking the last house on the block when you saw them.
“ANT LOOK IT’S HIM IT’S HIM!!!” Andy’s shrill voice shot off with the rest of his body as he sprinted as fast as his small legs could carry him towards the three men, one of them no doubt dressed as The Falcon. You groaned as the two twins followed suit, racing to catch up, and then outrun their youngest sibling to the group of guys. You silently prayed this would be the last time for the night, your phone only able to hold so many pictures.
As you reached the three kids, once again mooning over the “superheroes” you couldn’t help but notice that their outfits looked extremely authentic. And they were equally extremely good looking. Thor’s hair was perfect, Falcon’s gapped tooth smile made you smile back. Hell even Captain America had an ass on him that made you want to sing the national anthem. Out of tune and all. Your face flushed as you came up to them, the kids talking a mile a minute and their questions making your face burn.
“Well if it isn’t the Walking Lightning Rod, Bird Brain, and America on Ice. You guys look great, did you assemble the rest of the girl scout troop or is it just you three tonight? Sorry about the kiddos. Wish I could say they’re mine, but they aren’t. Thanks in advance for being nice to them, they kinda can outrun me in these heels.” Your greeting forced the three men to break their eye contact with their miniature versions to give you a quick once over. The man dressed as Falcon took one look at your costume and about died.
“YOU DRESSED UP AS BARNES?!” He exclaimed, voice laced with gulps of air and hard laughter as you adjusted the duct tape and silver painted left arm you had fabricated. You noticed the blue eyes of Captain America’s wander over your figure as Falcon bent at the waist, trying to catch his breath and failing miserably. “Sorry it’s just…” He breathed, standing back up to fully give you a once over, “You managed to make him look good. And that’s a big deal. Doesn’t she look amazing Steve?”
The man in the mask sputtered out jumbled words in agreement, and you felt your face grow hot even though your smile grew. He took a breath and composed himself “What’s…what’s your name Doll?”
“Y/N Y/L/N, and my eyes are up here Mr. American Dream.” You caught him staring at your chest through your mostly unzipped vest as he awkwardly cleared his throat, his face a few shades of pink that you were quickly finding adorable.
“So, ahem, why the Winter Soldier?” His blue eyes sparkled when he talked to you, and man you’d be lying through your teeth if you said they weren’t making you feel some things. Out of all the Captain Americas you had met this evening, this one was very quickly becoming your favorite. You admired the long hard lines of his body, that suit not leaving much to the imagination. Jesus you could pray with your knees upward with him anytime. You snapped your head up realizing what you were doing and forced your mind to focus.
“Well it was either him or Stark, and I don’t have the face for a goatee.”
“You would have made a hilarious Tony!” Sam was laughing again, and you were trying to hold your own inside. His joyous noises were infectious.
“But what’s with your arm?” The star spangled man stuttered and you smirked, showing the kids handy work in the form of “get well soon”s, hearts and happy faces.
“Ah well you see,” You leaned in closer to the man, motioning the other two closer to you, “The kids uh, the kids think he just hurt it really bad and that it’s in a cast. I don’t have the heart to tell them the truth. Especially Andy, he’s really sensitive.” You looked pointedly down to the five year old who was clinging to the last of the three as if his life depended on it.
The Falcon gave a smiling nod before crouching down to unwind the child in question from around his legs, chuckling as the kid attempted to hold on tighter. “So your name’s Andy huh? That’s a pretty cool name kid. I’m Sam. I like your costume.”
“My Ant made it for me! I wanted to be you because I think Falcon is the coolest!” Andy pumped his fist in the air with a shrieking holler that reminded you for the eighth time that night you were too sober for this shit. But you couldn’t help but smile as he continued to gush over his favorite super hero, your heart warming to see him get the interaction you’d been hoping for all night. “He can fly!!”
“Did you make all of your garments then?” Thor’s voice was deep, booming, and beautiful and for a second you almost regretted not dressing up as him, giving him a small nod. “They are exceptional Lady Y/N.” You scoffed, waving off the compliment although it was the first one you had gotten all night.
“Yea Ant is the best fairy godmother in town!” Hana squeaked, twirling around in circles to show off her red cape that hung from her shoulders. “She worked super hard for months so we could all be our favorites tonight! Even our mom and dad have costumes!”
“So I am your favorite hero then?” Thor inquired, taking a knee to look at the small blonde girl.
“Yep! You control lightning and we both have blonde hair, and you’re really nice to girls. My momma says it’s cause your momma raised you right, and that’s why you have a kind smile. I don’t know what that means but my momma is always right.” Hana smiled, showing the tall man her missing two front teeth, who looked like he just about melted into a puddle at the girl’s statement. He opened his arms and before you could object your niece ran into them, hugging the man fiercely.
“Wow little one you are incredibly strong!” He complimented her, breaking away as she fell into a fit of giggles. “What is your name?”
“Hana!” Came the squeak of your niece, beaming with pride.
“My name’s Liam and I think Captain America is the best!” Liam piped up, finally finding his voice and bringing a large smile to his counterpart, who reached his hand out to give him a high five from his waist. “You were frozen! You have super strength and you’re like really really old.” Sam snorted at that as Liam went to cover his backside. “Like a cool old though! Not like my dad old.”
“Nice save Li,” You rolled your eyes as the man in blue laughed heartily at how much Liam looked like he was going to spontaneously combust from embarrassment.
“So how old are all of you?” Sam questioned, finally giving in and hoisting Andy up to sit on his hip, you rubbing your temple in exasperation. These kids.
“I’m seven and the oldest!” Hana called, Liam shoving into her slightly.
“Only by three minutes.” She stuck her tongue out at her twin, Andy staring down at hand, hardened expression on his features as he thought up his answer. His face lit up as he swung his whole hand out, nearly falling out of Sam’s grip as his shifted his body weight in excitement.
“I’M THIS MANY!” He promptly smacked Sam in the face as he held up his small chubby digits into his field of vision.
“Oh I am so sorry, Andy my dude you gotta apologize for hitting the nice man.” You lightly scolded the child, his face falling as he avoided his gaze and stared at his bucket.
“Sorry mister Falcon sir.”
Sam grinned as he put the kid down, “It’s alright Andy, I accept your apology. And you can call me Sam. Now how about we take a photo huh?”
All the kids cheered as you pulled your phone out from your cleavage, watching Steve’s eyes widen at just where you hid your electronic device.
“Alright kids, pose like you’re about to save the city!” You snapped multiple shots, the kids breaking into different stances with their idols. Sam offered to take a picture of you next to Captain America, and after much convincing from two particular seven year olds you allowed him to oblige. You pulled out one of your guns and stood back to back with him, both of you laughing at the absurdity of it all. After he had finished capturing a few memories for you the group went to separate.
“Alright kids, we’re losing candy time and we still got hit up the rich people before we head to Miss Hill’s house for her Halloween Party! So tell the nice men goodbye and move your butts!” The kids nodded at your order, hugging the men and saying thank you.
“Miss Hill? Like Maria Hill?” Steve asked, you nodding.
“Yea she’s having a party, we worked together briefly and have stayed friends ever since. You know her?”
“We’ve..uh heard of her parties before.” The blonde smiled tightly, your bright smile making his pulse quicken.
“Cool beans well small world! If you’re in the neighborhood stop by yea? I’m sure she won’t mind! And I wouldn’t mind seeing you again blue eyes.” With a small flirty wave in Steve’s direction you were gone, moving to catch up with Hana and Andy already ahead in their trek. You came to a stop when you realized Liam wasn’t with you, turning your body to motion him with a “come on” motion. He held up a finger to you and you sighed, pointing to your nonexistent watch.
“Pssst! Mister America!” Steve crouched in front of Liam, who had called him over and was now digging through his pumpkin vigorously. You had turned your back, not wanting to intrude on their private moment, missing your cheeky nephew pull out one of your business cards from his plastic treat holder.
“What’s this?” Steve whispered, Liam’s eyes glinting with mischief as he smiled broadly in your direction. Thor was speaking into his comms link while Sam edged closer to the two to eavesdrop. Which wasn’t hard because Liam hadn’t quite mastered whispering yet.
“That’s my aunt’s number. You’re her favorite and she thinks you’re a total hottie. My mom says she needs to fall and love and get married so her womb doesn’t shrivel up and she dies alone with like eighty nine cats. So if you like her you should ask her out. She likes coffee and pink roses but hates bad breath. And A-holes who don’t use their blinker! Okay, bye!”
Sam saved his laughter for when Liam was long out of range, racing to grasp your hand as you walked away with the rest of the kids. Steve only smiled warmly at the slightly crumpled card.
“Dude I need that kid as my wing man.” Sam was shaking his head when Thor came back to them. “Nat have news?”
“Yes she believes they found the location of the Arsonist’s next target.”
With that the three men were back on the mission, their moment of carefree fun over. That was the whole reason they were in the neighborhood patrolling as it were. There had been six massive fires over the course of the last two months, all with the same cause behind them. They had gotten a letter earlier that day saying that the arsonist, Mr. Ash, yes that was what he had chosen to go by, would be striking this very evening. The team had split up to cover more ground as Nat and Pepper worked back at the tower to crack his pattern and thus tracking him down to his next target to apprehend him. They had all agreed to go to Agent Hill’s party in celebration after they caught the asshole, but now Steve was more determined than ever to make sure they made it. Even if it was just to see you again.
~~~Two Hours Later~~~
“Come on Ant, you got this!”
“Yea you can do it!”
The kids cheered you on from the front porch of Maria Hill’s home, the large basin of water and floating apples the only thing in front of you. You gave them a wink before putting your hands behind your back. Quickly finding your target you felt the cold splash of chilling water hit your senses as you dove after you prize, the kids clapping loudly as you emerged victorious. Biting into the tart granny smith you stood up wiping your eyes and smearing some of your mascara in the process.
“Pretty impressive stuff there Y/N.” Your vision adjusted to the figure of Maria, who was holding out an orange solo cup and a towel to wipe your face, which you happily took.
“Helps when you have your own cheerleading section.” You shrugged, taking a large gulp of the apple cider that had been mixed with fireball whisky. The alcohol burned your throat for a second as you weren’t expecting that much to be in it. Note to self, don’t have too many of these. She laughed and handed you your apple back, taking the slightly damp towel from you.
The five of you wandered into the spacious house where you could see everyone in costume, loud party music blaring through every room of the house, kids and adults alike playing games like Sorry and Pin the head on the Zombie. The rooms were all lit in different eerie colors, streamers and scary window clings decorated the house. There had to be at least 60 people here, and that wasn’t including those bobbing for apples or playing yard Jenga outside.
“Hey Ant Y/N look!” Liam pointed to the large T.V screen, you turning your body to face it and feeling your entire body go rigid. “It’s the Avengers from earlier! They were the real deal!”
Your eyes widened in shock as you instantly recognized three of the men from earlier, albeit their perfectly authentic suits were just a bit charred, they still looked incredible. And you looked like The Incredible Idiot. They were exiting a building that had been on fire, Thor holding a screaming man while Steve and Sam went to help put out the flames with the local fire department. You were pretty sure your face could give the warehouse a run for its money with how hot you were. You swallowed hard at the questioning look on Maria’s face, opting to just pull your phone from its hiding place and shoving it in her hand once you pulled up the photos.
“Holy shit Y/N, you didn’t tell me they were…” She tried to cover her escaping giggles with her hand as you began looking for a rock to climb under. She especially found the picture of you and the very real and very handsome Steve Rogers to be absolutely hilarious.
“How was I supposed to know Maria?! They were like the fourth group of Avengers and I was completely done with the whole thing by group two!” You whined, sitting down in a large overstuffed recliner with an ungraceful thump. This was single handedly the most embarrassing moment of your entire existence. And that was saying something. You had once forgotten to wear pants to school your sophomore year of high school and had to loan a pair of god awful gym shorts from your best guy friend at the time. They did not smell clean and didn’t match your bright orange fall sweater. It was also Winter, and the shorts were two sizes too big. You never thought anything would top that. “I’m just going to die here now.”
Needless to say between finding out they had met their actual heroes and all of the candy, the kids were absolute beasts to put to bed. Maria had been kind enough to let them crash on an air mattress in a spare room upstairs when your sister and brother in law texted saying they were running a bit behind. They had won first place in the costume contest at their party, so they were celebrating a little longer than intended. When you realized your plans had changed, you had opted to have a couple more drinks. It’s not like the absolutely attractive earth savers would actually show up.
“Heeey the party still going on?!” Sam’s deep voice came bellowing through the house while you were draining your third drink, nearly choking as the three Avengers from earlier, and an extra few including the one you had dressed as entered the living room. You quickly dodged your way into the kitchen, wondering silently if you could fit in the very tiny water heater closet and they wouldn’t even know you were there. You listened as the room gave them a round of applause, finally reaching your “fuck it” meter for the night and pouring yourself another drink. You were never a lightweight, but the effects of the booze would at least keep you from being a total freak when you came in contact with them.
“Y/N you’re still here, how fortuitous!” Thor clapped loudly causing you to jump and sputter into your cup. You steeled your nerves and turned around and felt your face pale for the second time that night. That was a habit you didn’t need to be forming.
“So I am.” You pretended to shrug in indifference, a small shy smile on your features. “You guys were pretty great out there tonight, thanks for catching that asshole and saving that family. Guess that’s why Stark keeps you around huh?”
“Well it’s isn’t because they’re pretty to look at, but everyone’s a critic. Tony Stark. Hi, great to meet you.” The man wearing a simple “This is my Halloween costume” tee shirt approached you, you smiling wider and shaking his extended hand. “I see you’ve met my coworkers. Wilson told me about the names you called them tonight, they were great. Mind if I steal them?”
“Oh umh, um, no not at all!”
“Great, because I was going to regardless.” He winked and moved to the side, allowing you to introduce yourself to Clint and Natasha, who shook your hands with happy chuckles.
“Nice arm.”
“Thanks, made it myself.” You winked at the woman who shook her head at you, Bucky coming up with to stand next to Steve, giving you a once over.
“See Barnes didn’t I tell you? She made you look good for once!” Sam slapped the quiet man on the back, earning a glare from his otherwise stoic face.
“Shut up Wilson.” Bucky responded, rubbing the back of his neck. “But yea, you actually look pretty great. I can see why Steve here was all bent out of shape thinkin he wasn’t going to see you again tonight.” Came his gruff reply, his blonde friend groaning and jabbing an elbow into his side. “Ouch. What where you’re throwing that thing Punk.”
You brought your vision to look at the handsome Captain, wondering if it were possible to drown in his blue eyes. You felt yourself smiling, your eyes crinkling as you took a step closer to him, watching him swallow hard. “Awwwh. Did you miss me Captain?”
“Are you kidding? He’s the whole reason why we had to work double time at tracking the arsonist down, just so he could see you.” Sam grinned, running to hide behind a very amused Tony as Steve contemplated murder for the sixth time that evening. “He wouldn’t shut up about you boo..”
“Mister Sam… Falcon…sir?” You were never so thankful for a child in your entire life. All of you turned to look at Andy who stood alone in the kitchen doorway, rubbing at his eyes sleepily. His wings were long since off of him, you knowing full well with his thrashing the cardboard and hot glue would not withstand the rage of a five year old with constant night terrors.
“Yea buddy it’s me. Aren’t you supposed to be in bed?”
“You have a nightmare again Andy?” His teary nod at you had you placing your cup on the counter, leaning down to motion him to you. He hurried into your arms, you effortlessly picking him up, taking your silver arm covering off to allow yourself more range of motion as you cradled your sobbing nephew.
“Shhh you’re okay my dude, I’ve got you.” You muttered, listening to him cry uncontrollably into your neck, the evidence of his emotions soaking into your skin. “Tell me what you dreamt.”
“It was AWFUL Ant!” The boy exclaimed, pushing off of you slightly to look at Sam, tears still stinging his eyes. “Yo…you guys..didn…didn’t make it…out and the the building..” He started crying again and you felt the whole room melt around you.
“Hey Andy it’s okay see, we’re okay though.” Sam whispered reassuringly, asking you without words to take the child, which you gave him over with a nod. “See look, no harm done.” He let the little boy place his chubby hands all over his face, brushing over the soot and ash that had stuck to the man’s skin.
“…but what about smoke infal..mathc..ion? Momma says you can…di..die from too much smoke infalmathcion.” The brunette boy hiccupped at Sam, and you didn’t miss Tony’s huge smile at the kid’s difficulty at pronouncing big words.
“We’re gonna be fine. Don’t you worry. Takes a lot more than nasty smoke to take out the Avengers, don’t you think?”
“Y..yea! You guys are the best in the whole galaxy!” Andy cheered, as if he hadn’t had a complete meltdown just moments prior. Sam smiled back at him, turning his head to mouth a simple “I’m gonna keep him.”
You were almost tempted to let him, until you remembered he wasn’t yours.
“Hey there’s my little love bug!” Your sister cooed from the hallway, stopping for no one as she reached for her son, eager to hold him.
“Uh honey…” Your brother in law motioned to the group of super heroes, her face reddening as she looked at Natasha and Clint, who looked back at their doppelgangers with wide eyes. Tony and Thor howled with laugher as the pair took an extra step apart from each other as they took in your sister and his costumes. “I never thought we would meet like this. Man no one is going to believe me at the office on Monday.”
“Of course they will, you’ll have proof!” Tony belted, motioning for Maria to come and take pictures of everyone. You all elected to stand on the front yard, your sister going to drag the sleepy kids out of their slumber so they could be a part of it. After many different poses and many different phones later, everyone seemed happy with their captured memories.
“Night night Ant Y/N, sleep tight. Don’t let the bad guys bite!” Liam joked, the two of you breaking into your secret handshake.
“And if they do, I’ll beat them til they’re black and blue with my shoe!” You called back, hugging Hana and waving to Andy who was already nearly passed out in his dad’s arms. He gave a half wave back, all of their figures fading into the distance as they swam through the sea of parked cars.
The rest of the party cleared out a bit later, you staying behind to help clean up the apocalypse level mess in Hill’s house.
“You’re really great with kids Y/N.” Steve held the trash bag open as you piled cans and cups into it, meeting his gaze with a grin.
“Only because they’re related to me.” You admonished, the large man chuckling as you continued about the living room, you both being the only ones in there while the others helped take down decorations in the other rooms and outside. “Listen about earlier, I’m sorry if I may have seemed a little forward. I had no idea it was actually you and I’m not normally that flirty.”
“Ah I see. Well if it helps I’m not offended.”
You shot your head up to look at him, arm mid swipe to push more cups into the trash bag. “You’re…not?”
“Nope. Especially knowing I’m a total hottie, and your favorite. According to Liam anyway.” Your voice died in your throat as the man lost in time actually had the nerve to wink at you. You placed the cups in the bag, coming up to your full height to stare at him. Your feet were burning from the whole night in heels but you’d be damned if you backed down now. You didn’t know if you wanted to kill your nephew or hug him until he complained about it.
“Oh really? Well then can I ask you out for a cup of coffee sometime?” You spoke lightly, question almost coming out in a whisper on account of your nerves.
“Sure, I’ve got no plans in the morning.”
“Eleven work? I’ll be dead with a hangover until at least ten.” He laughed at your honesty, reaching to pull out his phone so you could type your number in. You procured your phone from its warm resting spot, taking extra care to slow your movements. Steve actually looked away from you after staring for a beat or two, his ears the same shade of pink from earlier. Cute.
“As long as we can yell at a-holes who don’t use their blinkers, sure.” Hug Liam it is. “There’s a café on 23rd and maple by the tower…”
“Queenie’s?” You finished, smiling brightly at Steve who nodded back enthusiastically. “Then it’s a date Cap.”
“Yep,” He pulled you into a surprising yet warm hug, you nose breathing him in and taking note that he smelled exactly how you thought he’d smell. All masculine and deep and smooth and rough and your brain stopped trying to think of good words to use. He offered to walk you to your sister’s house, a pensive look washing over you as you looked at the clean living room.
“What about saying goodbye to the others?”
“What, like you’re never going to see them again? Not if I can help it” He mentioned nonchalant, another blush sweeping over your face as he bluntly admitted to seeing you more than once. You only nodded, accepting defeat as he put his arm around your shoulders to keep you warm on your walk home, not that you needed it with the adrenaline coursing through your veins.
A short fifteen minute stroll of content and happy chitchat about yourselves later you were at your sibling’s door, finding the spare key in a ceramic frog just along the edge of the fish pond that sat on the left side of their stairs.
“Well this is me, see you at eleven hundred?” He smiled at you, tucking a stray hair behind your ear before placing a chaste kiss on your cheek.
“Eleven-hundred. Pleasant screams Y/N.” You outwardly giggled at his pun as he pulled back, turning towards the street and walking away with a noticeable pep in his step.
Take the kids trick or treating your sister said. It will be fun she said.
She was right for once.

Punny title about lesbians in love on an airplane (Branjie) - Mermelada
Hola! Did somebody ask for a Branjie lesbian flight attendant AU? Of course they didn’t, but it’s here anyway! Trigger warning for racism (third flight: Cancun section, skip if necessary as it’s not vital to the story). I hope you enjoy!
They first met on a flight to Tampa. They were both working in economy class, and were taking advantage of the turbulence to chitchat on their jumpseats at the back of the plane and get to know each other. Brooke Lynn learned that Vanessa had grown up in Tampa, had somehow acquired the nickname Vanjie at school, and was planning on spending that evening with her family. Vanessa learned that Brooke Lynn was Canadian, but had been living in the US for long enough to have almost completely lost her accent – except after a few tequilas, apparently – and used to be a pretty serious ballerina. Their personalities were polar opposites, and yet they hit it off immediately. They kept laughing with each other well after the plane’s wheels were on the ground and the passengers were nowhere to be seen. Although she didn’t want to admit it, Vanessa was somewhat disappointed when she saw her mother and aunt standing in the arrivals hall, and was thus forced to say goodbye to Brooke Lynn, who begrudgingly followed the rest of the crew out of the terminal to find their transport to the hotel. On the flight home the next day, both ladies picked up where they’d left off, their natural chemistry making their job feel easy and the flight seem quick. Far too quick. Before disembarking once they were safely parked back at base, Vanessa added Brooke Lynn on Facebook, delighted that their 56 mutual friends had made it easy. Their airline, however, was big, and they knew their chances of flying together again anytime soon was limited. Nonetheless, they exchanged goodbyes and thanked each other for such a nice flight.
-*-
They didn’t have to wait long for their next meeting, when Vanessa was called from reserve to go to Seattle the next week. All of her stress from speed-walking to the gate disappeared as soon as she stepped on board and saw the voluptuous blonde giant, who handed her a freshly brewed coffee. Airplane drinks had never tasted so good. Brooke Lynn was working in business class, so they didn’t get the chance to speak until the bus ride to their hotel in the city centre.
“I’ve never been to Seattle before, do you want to come sightseeing with me?”
Vanessa agreed perhaps too enthusiastically, her smile wide enough to park a bus, before she realised that in her frantic dash to the airport that morning, she hadn’t packed anything appropriate for the damp and chilly Seattle spring. A few awkward explanations and suggestive comments later, Vanessa found herself walking around Pike Place Market in her pyjama leggings, white jelly sandals, and Brooke’s red hoodie which drowned her tiny frame. It smelled like maple syrup – not in a stereotypical sort of way, but it was sweet, unique, and warmed Vanessa’s heart. They spent the day walking beside each other, neither woman flinching when their arms or hands bumped together. They chatted comfortably, and felt completely at ease in each other’s company. They’d spent as much time as possible exploring the city and eating more than either had thought possible, but the time change and early start was making staying awake increasingly difficult, and both made the decision to retire to their respective rooms before dinner time, promising to meet for breakfast when they inevitably woke up at the crack of dawn.
-*-
Their third flight together was the hardest. Brooke Lynn’s face had lit up the moment she saw Vanessa’s name beside a two-night trip to Cancun on her roster. They’d exchanged excited Whatsapp messages, having swapped phone numbers after breakfast in Seattle the previous two months prior, and planned a visit to a turtle sanctuary to find out “if those cute little fuckers really do try and swim to the moon”, a question Vanessa had been pondering since watching an Animal Planet documentary as a child. The reality, however, wasn’t quite as fun. An oil leak on their original plane meant a four hour wait in the terminal beside increasingly-agitated passengers while a new plane was found. Once they were finally on their way, a lady in the back row – who had most likely spent the delay downing gin and tonics at the airport bar – decided she didn’t like Vanessa’s bilingual English and Spanish announcements, unironically declaring loudly from her seat that “we want to keep America for Americans, we don’t want to be force-fed your taco-eating shit.”
In shock, Brooke left her colleague in the aisle and went to the nearest phone to call the Captain, thinking ahead of the next steps from the ‘dealing with disruptive passengers’ chapter in her training notes. Vanessa, surprisingly, kept her cool.
“Ma’am, I’m Puerto Rican. We eat sorullitos.”
The angry woman stared at Vanessa like she’d just killed a puppy. Her face turned red with rage, and she spat obscenities at Vanessa like they were on special offer. Not wanting to listen anymore, Vanessa just walked away to join Brooke Lynn in the back galley, leaving the passengers around the lady to deal with her themselves. Unfortunately, the captain had decided that the woman was a potential risk to the safety of the aircraft, which is how they found themselves diverting into Charleston and exceeding their maximum time limit for a day’s work. As the rest of the crew debriefed over miniature bottles of wine on the bus to their unplanned hotel for the night, Brooke and Vanessa sat close together in the back row. The taller woman had her arm wrapped around the shorter one’s shoulder, gently rubbing circles into her upper arm. Out of nowhere, the impact of what had happened hit Vanessa. She buried her face into Brooke’s chest, unable to stop the tears which were now falling incessantly from her eyes. Vanessa looked even smaller than normal, as fragile as a glass Christmas bauble. All Brooke could do was hold her closer, stroke her hair, and hope that Vanessa knew that she cared.
Back at the hotel, Vanessa wouldn’t let go of Brooke Lynn as they collected their keys from the bored-looking teenager at the front desk. Brooke had never experienced racism at work before – drunk football fans shouting ‘aboot’ across the aisle didn’t count – but she knew that the most important thing at that moment was to support her friend.
“Do you want to sleep in my room tonight? We can get pizza and watch The Notebook.”
In the short time they had known each other, Brooke Lynn had learned a lot about Vanessa’s favourite things, including her surprising love of all things romantic, despite a less-than-perfect love life about which she often dropped elusive snippets into conversation. Despite never having been one for soppy movies, Brooke wanted nothing more than to spend the evening doing whatever she could to make Vanessa happy.
The short Latina looked up through wet, brown eyes.
“Only if I can borrow your hoodie again, that shit was ugly but comfy as fuck.”
-*-
A month after their failed trip to Cancun, Brooke Lynn and Vanessa had been in contact every day, trying to figure out how to get another trip together. Finally, they were lucky, when Vanessa convinced her friend Silky to swap her night-stop in San Francisco with Brooke for two days in Pittsburgh.
“Think of the ketchup, girl, you’ll love Pittsburgh!”
“Bitch, you are pussy whipped, I better be your maid of honour.”
The words replayed on a loop in Vanessa’s head during her entire journey to the airport that morning. “Pussy whipped.” It sounded disgusting, but she couldn’t deny, there was something so attractive about Brooke Lynn that she couldn’t ignore. It wasn’t just that she was tall, athletic, curvaceous, and had the twinkliest eyes in the universe; she was intelligent, thoughtful, caring, and wickedly funny at the same time. She was never bored when they were together, and she felt entire swarms of butterflies flutter in her stomach every time her phone dinged with a new message from the Canadian. She also gave amazing cuddles. They’d gotten a lot closer over the last month, especially since Brooke had opened up about never having had a serious relationship at their Charleston sleepover. Brooke had also admitted that night to having had no idea that Vanessa was also a lesbian, which elicited even more flirtatious teasing.
“Is it because I don’t wear plaid? Brooky-poo, you can’t just pigeon-hole your sisters like that.”
“I didn’t mean it like that, Jesus Christ, I told you, my gaydar has been broken since the 90s! This is why I’m single!”
They spent the long flight to San Fran working together in economy again, their smiles never fading as their bantered with the passengers during the bar round. They were able to remove the frowns from even the grumpiest of businessmen’s faces, which left the colleagues feeling like they were on cloud 9. As they gathered their belongings at the end of the flight, the cabin manager Nina walked down the aisle to see them.
“Those were some of the happiest customers I have ever seen, what on earth did you give them?!” she beamed, her enthusiasm somehow even higher than usual.
“Oh, you know”, began Brooke, “A bit of the ol’ Branjie charm does wonders!”
Vanessa’s snort in response caused the three to burst into hysterical laughter, their good moods only getting better and better.
It wasn’t until they were sat together at a bar on Pier 39 that it was brought up again.
“So, Branjie, huh?” smirked Vanessa, stirring her cocktail with her straw and fluttering her eyelashes at Brooke.
“Yeah, it’s like a… what’s the word for it? A portmanteau. Brooke and Vanjie – Branjie!”
Vanessa couldn’t help but laugh at how comfortable Brooke was explaining it, “you’ve thought about this before, haven’t you?!”
Brooke’s cheeks turned the same colour as her strawberry daiquiri, and she couldn’t drink it quick enough to hide from the fact that she’d been caught. “Well, yeah… I was just brainstorming, y’know. Branjie is better than Broonessa or Vanooke.”
Vanessa successfully maintained serious eye contact with Brooke for four seconds before exploding into uncontrollable laughter, the Canadian joining in immediately. At some point during the raucousness, Vanessa’s hand found its way onto Brooke’s thigh, and Brooke’s foot wrapped itself around Vanessa’s shin. They inched closer until there was virtually no space between them, conversing as before, only this time with far more intimacy. A natural lull in the conversation led to a comfortable silence, where they stared into each other’s eyes, neither sure of how to proceed. Just as Brooke Lynn caught Vanessa’s eyes dart down to her lips, she jumped up from her seat and extended her hand, which Vanessa took graciously.
“Let’s go for a walk, you like sea lions?”
The pier was swarming with tourists, all trying to take photographs of every single square centimetre. Vanessa and Brooke Lynn aimlessly sauntered along, their hands connected and swinging at a gentle pace beside them. Despite not looking at each other, they knew that they were wearing matching smiles. They stopped at the end of the pier and took in the deafening racket from the giant creatures below, huddling together closely to counter the effects of the cool sea breeze.
“Sorry, I thought this was going to be romantic”, sighed Brooke, lightly removing her hand from Vanessa’s and looking down to inspect her nails, a nervous tick she’d developed as a teenager in dance class. “I wasn’t expecting it to smell quite so fishy.”
Vanessa couldn’t help but grin at her counterpart’s sudden shyness, taking it upon herself to make the first move by wrapping her arms around Brooke Lynn’s waist.
“I didn’t even notice.” With that, Vanessa stood as high on her tip-toes as possible and stretched her neck as far as she could, meeting Brooke’s lips halfway in a flurry of quick, chaste kisses. They held each other as they stared out to the sea, the cacophony of the sea lion choir filling the air. It was perfect.
-*-
They saw each other a lot more after San Francisco, meeting for coffee and drinks at home whenever their schedules aligned, or spending hours on Facetime when they didn’t. They were seeing each other, Brooke supposed. It wasn’t official or exclusive, nor had they spoken about what their exact status was, but whatever it was, it was good. It felt right. It had been 52 days since their first kiss, and the Canadian was ready to take their relationship to the next level. Unbeknownst to Brooke Lynn, Vanessa was had also been planning the perfect way to do so as soon as she’d laid eyes upon the 3-night trip to Maui appear on their rosters for next month. Sunshine, sea, and coconut bras… what could possibly be sexier?
The flight passed without a hitch, and all nine crew members chatted drowsily in the hotel lobby as they waited for their room keys to be ready. Vanessa and Brooke were sharing an armchair that was far too small to fit both of them, but they relished the closeness. Drawing gentle patterns onto Brooke Lynn’s lower back, Vanessa put the first part of her plan into action.
“So, I was wondering,” she began hesitantly, clearing her throat as a pair of sleepy green eyes met her brown ones, “since we’ve basically spent all of our last two trips together, do you want to maybe share a room?”
Vanessa knew it was a big step: despite having shared a bed for one night in Charleston, and enjoying an evening kissing during Food Network ad breaks in Brooke’s room in San Fran, they were yet to officially spend a night together together. And a room all to themselves would mean they could do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, without having to run halfway across the hotel to brush their teeth or change clothes. Vanessa was also desperate to explore every inch of Brooke’s body and do whatever she could to make her feel good, but Brooke’s slight hesitation in that moment made her doubt herself.
“We don’t have to, don’t worry, I was just thinking it might be nice to spend some time alone together since it’s been so long since we’ve been together just the two of us, but I understand if you want your personal space, I know you probably don’t want all my bikinis and shit cluttering up your room and…”
Before Vanessa could finish ranting, Brooke stopped her by pressing their lips together, so soft in contrast to Vanessa’s erratic rambling.
“Yes”, was all she needed to say, before Vanessa grinned like the Cheshire Cat and pulled her in for a longer kiss, not even caring that the rest of their crewmates had already left.
The atmosphere was unusually quiet in the girls’ room. Brooke had opened the door to the balcony, looking out onto the beach, meanwhile Vanessa rifled through her suitcase to find her phone charger. She really should start organising her luggage better one day, maybe Brooke could teach her. Neither had uttered a word to each other since walking through the door to their humble double room, and both seemed reluctant to be the first to break the tension. Eventually, having successfully plugged her phone in to charge, Vanessa decided to take a shower to wash the smell of Boeing off of her skin. Singing off-key to herself as she lathered up her fruity shampoo, she didn’t hear the bathroom door open and close again.
“Need some help?”
Vanessa jumped as she realised that standing in front of her was the most perfect, beautiful woman she has ever seen, completely naked, and looking at Vanessa with matching awe.
“If you want to”, was all Vanessa could muster before pushing herself onto the blonde goddess in front of her, pinning her against the wall of the shower cubicle and kissing her with a passion she’d never known she had. Brooke kissed back with a far greater intensity than any of their previous kisses, moving to nibble at Vanessa’s neck and clavicle.
Not content with not being in control, Brooke Lynn reached her hands down to grab Vanessa’s ass, and in one swift motion lifted her up and spun them around so that the shorter girl’s back was now against the tiled wall, with her legs wrapped as tightly as she could around Brooke’s hips. They continued kissing passionately, grabbing each other’s hair and softly moaning into each other’s mouth, when Brooke, who still had a hold on Vanessa as she inadvertently grinded against the Canadian’s pubic bone, lost her grip and could only watch as the brunette slid in slow-motion all the way down Brooke’s body like a firefighter’s pole, unable to land on her legs in time. She looked down at the shocked brown eyes staring up from the corner of the cubicle floor, not sure how it had happened, when the room was filled with the most glorious sound of Vanessa’s laughter. Once she’d started laughing, she couldn’t stop, which then infected Brooke to the point where neither could breathe. The situation only worsened with Brooke’s failed attempts to pull Vanessa back up again, the women’s hands slipping constantly in the stream of water.
“This wasn’t what I had in mind when I wanted to get you wet tonight”, Brooke barely managed to wheeze out as her stomach muscles ached from their sudden exertion. Just about succeeding to regain composure as Vanessa still howled below her, she turned off the shower and extended her hand, finally managing to pull the brunette up to stand beside her. They shared several soft kisses, hands wandering across their torsos, holding on to each other as if they might suddenly be split apart. As their kisses once more began getting more heated, Vanessa snickered and looked up at Brooke.
“My ass really hurts, I think you should kiss it better.”
All Brooke could do was roll her eyes and continue kissing Vanessa’s face, her smile never faltering.
“You are absolutely unbelievable, I can’t believe I have four more days of this.”
“You love it, really.”
Neither woman could possibly disagree, as they practically sprinted across the 1970’s-patterned carpet and jumped on the bed, which they had no intention of leaving in a hurry.
The whole duration of the flight home was spent with knowing smirks being passed between the other flight attendants as Brooke Lynn and Vanessa tried to remain professional and not hold hands or smash lips at every opportunity.
“Sooooo”, drawled Yvie over a dinner of over-cooked macaroni cheese behind the galley curtain, “did you two enjoy the beach?”
Vanessa began blushing as she stabbed her fork into her foil tray, looking to Brooke to save their dignity, however she appeared to be trying to shrink as far down as possible into her uniform blouse. They weren’t getting out of this one.
“I spent a lot of time there. There were a couple in the room next door to me who kept hammering shit to the walls and screaming about God all day and all night. I hope they had a good time, because I’m fucking tired.”
And with that, Yvie put her meal tray away and walked back out into the cabin, leaving Vanessa and Brooke to stare at each other in silence, willing the bottom of the plane to open up and suck them out.
-*-
They had been an item for six months. It was Brooke’s longest relationship, and the happiest six months of Vanessa’s life. It hadn’t been without its challenges: despite trying to synchronise rosters to spend more time together, they often found themselves on opposite sides of the continent for half of each week. They were eternally grateful for FaceTime, but nothing compared to the feeling of leaping into bed for a nap together after their respective flights home. They had both looked endlessly for flights they could work on together, sending out begging requests to swap at every opportunity, but none had been successful.
That was until Brooke cornered Yvie in the crew room, bought her a coffee, and pouted until the tall, brown-eyed girl had no choice to but cave.
“You still owe me about 20 hours of sleep from Hawaii, I’ll add this to your tab.”
Brooke’s initial plan had been to keep it a secret until the day of the flight to surprise Vanessa, but in her excited state, she couldn’t hold it in for one night.
“I’M COMING TO TAMPA!”
Flight six had been the best flight of all, with a fully-functioning plane, happy passengers, and the woman of her dreams across from her, somehow even making pouring coffee look sexy. Brooke Lynn thought back to their very first meeting, not quite remembering at which point it had all fallen into place, but she wouldn’t have changed a thing. She was in love.
Vanessa, feeling exactly the same way, couldn’t help but ride the overwhelming wave of joy whenever she thought about the tall blonde in front of her, handing out pretzels whilst looking like such a snack herself. Without wanting to scare Brooke Lynn away, Vanessa knew she was in this for the long run.
Just a couple of hours later, they walked through arrivals, each with one hand on their suitcases and the others linked together.
“I hope you don’t mind, baby, but I’ve already sorted out our transport home.” Vanessa smiled and squeeze Brooke’s hand, leading her through the throngs of lost-looking people in the terminal, until they were both embraced by two pairs of warm, welcoming arms.
“Mamá, Tía Alexis, I want you to meet my girlfriend, Brooke Lynn.”

DESCENDANTS 3 - REVIEW
WARNING! SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT, DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE MOVIE!! from this point onwards, reading is on your responsibility. you have been warned.
Alright, Descendants 3, where to begin with this...
First off, thinking that this is Cameron Boyce’s last movie ever, it makes me feel very sentimental and sad and I hope that the movie would’ve done him justice more. But I’m afraid that while it was a cute and aesthetically pleasing movie, that is about it.
After watching it a couple of times now, I have one word for D3: clusterfuck. I’m not going to lie. D1 was great, D2 was good but D3 wasn’t really the ending this saga deserved. NOW KEEP IN MIND that I haven’t read the books and I personally think that the movie still should take time to explain things. Plus the books came after the first movie anyway so...
In a nutshell, the plot is inconsistent, the movie is rushed and lot of the character development (save from Mal’s and Audrey’s) is pretty much murdered and just ditched away.
Beginning with a song like (Good to Be Bad) like every Descendant movie, it gives the movie the energy that it lacks towards the end. The VK’s choose Smee’s sons, Celia and Dizzy to come to the Isle and return to Auradon, only to get them after giving them time to pack their things.
Next thing we see, Ben and Mal are getting ready to embark to the Isle with the VK’s. They stop in front of the Beast statue though and Ben sings (short acoustic verse “Did I Mention”) to Mal, then proposing to her. Audrey is not pleased but hey she’s back and damn she’s rocking that hair!
Now this is where things go a bit off the rails. I understand Audrey still holding resentment to Mal even though at the end of D1 she seemed to be amicable with her so - what’s the dealio Audrey? Of course we can assume that her resentment grew back during D2 - the movie she wasn’t in. Her grandmother is there and basically gives Audrey shit cause she lost Ben to Mal (like wth is it with this hatred from grandma, chill out lady...).
Mal, Ben and VK’s go to the Isle and while they’re leaving back Hades tries to break out and use his ember but Mal fights him (as a dragon) and gets him back inside. In Auradon, Audrey sits in her room and embraces her darkness (”Queen of Mean”, one of the best songs in my opinion, holy shit), stealing the Queen’s crown and Maleficent’s staff turning to Dark!Audrey and suddenly possessing magic and knowing how to use it without any training? Okaaay, shady much? I mean it could be the staff also controlling her so I’ll give the benefit of a doubt here.
Alright so Hades tried to get out, Mal makes the hard decision to shut down the barrier forever with Ben after reasoning with him and feeling guilt for possibly endangering Auradon. Cut to Evie’s little cottage-manor, Audrey pays Mal a visit, cursing her to turn into a hag. That kind of didn’t really serve a purpose in anywhere else than maybe Audrey’s mind if she thought that Ben wouldn’t love her? Idk man. Anyway, Mal can’t reverse the spell because “there’s nothing that can reverse the staff’s spell”. Oh but waaait....
The VK’s decide to get Hades’ ember, going to the Isle and suddenly Mal turns back again because dark magic doesn’t work in the Isle. So... Mal/VK’s just forgot that? I doubt it because they did live there for such a long time. Oh well, moving on. Celia is with them cause she runs errands to Hades. Meanwhile in Auradon, Jane’s having her birthday party and Audrey crashed it, cursing everyone asleep. Except Jane cause she jumps into the Magic Lake - again something that can reverse the staff’s spell that is supposedly non-reversable? Did anyone actually fact-check the script, I wonder... And well - she takes Chad with her. Oh the loyal, dumb puppy.
Alright back to the Isle, Celia gets the key and we meet Dr. Facilier shortly, he’s actually a nice man (oh and btw so was Dizzy’s grandmother aka. Cinderella’s stepmother before too...) which I have kind of hard time imagining BUT nonetheless I kinda like it? They get out and find Harry + Gil and couple other pirates stealing their bikes (same kind Mal took to the Isle in D2) and run after them. Celia and Mal go to Hades’ lair.
They find Hades napping, but then he wakes up, Celia trying to distract him so Mal can get the ember. But whoops, he grabs Mal’s hand. And then we learn something shocking! (not really) “Hi Dad.” Oh well look at that, Hades is Mal’s dad. Even though I recall that in the first movie it was said to be a human male? But then again, makes sense why Mal has such great magical powers. They argue and get a nice rock’n’roll duet together (”Do What You Gotta Do” and boy I’m fawning over Cheyenne Jackson’s voice!). Celia kinda does background “ooh”s which is... so weird really. Like why?
I’m not gonna lie, I kinda enjoyed the bickering chemistry between Hades and Mal as father and daughter. He clearly cares about her but tells her that her mother was not an easy person to be with and he never stayed in contact with Mal. Now this is about everything that we learn about their relationship. Mal has a certain resenment at him but Celia reveals that Hades being her father explains him asking about her. Mal tells her that Evie is the only one that knows.
Meanwhile in Auradon, Audrey visits Ben making him an offer to make her his queen again but he thinks she’s under a spell and Audrey realises he doesn’t care about her. She uses magic to turn Ben into a Beast and also turns Fairy Godmother running towards the Museum to get her wand into a statue (not shown how she made that happen really... but later on we see that she can apparently see ppl in the staff u know, like a CCTV kinda thing).
VK’s get back to the portal and when they cross over, Harry and Gil do too. They try to stop them and in the midst of it the ember drops to the water (spoiler: if it gets wet, it stops working). Uma catches it and then turns back into human. They strike a deal when Mal makes a promise to let any of the VK’s that want to get out of the Isle, get out.
So Uma, Harry and Gil are now going to Auradon with the VK’s to help them. Kinda reluctantly. Gil gets all pumped up for fresh food and all which is kinda cute x’D And Harry ofc is trying to steal money from a sleeping student but Jay stops him. Dude is awake though and tells the VK’s what happened. They go to look for Ben and go to his castle, eventually finding the walls clawed and end up in a fight between some armors that Audrey controls (”Night Falls”).
Eventually they beat Audrey together and almost celebrate. But not quite cause they are enemies. Evie is trying to play the middleman, suggesting an icebreaker game which doesn’t really take off. But props to her for trying. Also I should say that she suggested trying to be friends when they met Uma, Harry and Gil at the entrance to the Isle.
After the fight they split up - the boys go into the woods trying to find Ben while the girls go search Audrey’s room and Uma finds her diary where she mentions the fairie’s cottage. Then the girls go back to Evie’s where they found Smee’s twins and Dizzy sleeping as well as Doug. Evie tries too wake him up but can’t (duh, he’s under a spell). Uma’s all like “he’s under a spell. is she not a fast learner?” and Mal tells her that Evie’s emotionally involved. Which brings us to the ah so sweet - true love’s kiss (”One Kiss”). But Evie is unsure cause they haven’t used the L-word yet. When did Evie become so insecure though? She has been super confident throughout the series even though imho her storyline with Doug has NOT gotten the moment in spotlight it deserves. But wait, she kisses him after the song and he wakes up! Aww so it is true love. Bitches I wanted to see more of them before this bc they’ve been in the background (also can I mention that Doug has turned into like a young Nicholas Cage clone with his long hair and all and dam he’s cute!).
The boys find Ben, now in beast form and trying to kind attack them (and failing adorably) when Carlos calms him down and takes a splinter from his paw (i mean... he has paws now?). Kinda reminds me of Tinkerbell and the Neverbeast when Fawn took a splinter from the Neverbeast’s paw :’D Anyway, back to the story. Then Jane arrives with sort of a hose, getting Ben all wet with the water from the Enchanted Lake and he turns back too human - except he has a little beard/stubble and kind of fangs? Also Carlos and Jane meet again and are all cute together. Harry tries to make a move on Jane but Carlos literally blocks him, lol.
Back to Evie’s. Mal and Uma are talking when suddenly boards start covering the house. Audrey’s magic has gotten stronger cause Mal can’t reverse it alone but when Uma joins in with her shell, they manage to beat it, making Audrey angry.
They build up a plan and Gil, Doug and Jane go look for the Fairy Godmother while the other’s go to the Fairie’s cottage, finding Chad locked in a closet. They walk out and then comes the moment of truth. Evie tells Ben that Uma + the pirates joined them cause Mal promised that the kids from Isle can come to Auradon. She reveals that she lied to everyone, making her friends mad. Celia takes the Ember, throwing it into a pool of water. Uma and Harry leave. Evie faces Mal, who obviously feels awful and her friends are mad at her. Then poof, they’re turned into stone. Mal sings what is - I assume - the song to build up her confidence/self-searching (”My Once Upon a Time”) and confronts Uma asking for her help to beat Audrey. But Uma turns her down even after she tells her that she saw the good in Uma - that she really cares.
Next we have Celia calling for help cause Audrey has her on top of one of the towers. Mal turns into a dragon, trying to battle Audrey but can’t do it on her own. Uma and Harry happen to come back and Uma’s suddenly like “she can’t do it on her own, i’m here girl, i’m here” forgetting that Mal totally lied to them and kinda screwed them over and helping her igniting the ember again. With the help from the ember, she beats Audrey. Everyone is awakened, except Audrey who’s fading away after being hit back with the magic. Mal can’t wake her up even with the crystal and tells Ben, Beast, Belle and everyone else in the room that Hades could. While they doubt it, Mal tells them that he’d do it - for her, he is her father after all. Ben is a bit shocked but sends guards to get him from the Isle.
He’s brought to the Castle in shackles and he works his magic, waking Audrey up. She apologises to Mal and then Mal apologises to her as well as Ben and then Audrey’s grandma apologises to Mal. It’s an apologyfest, and all is fine again. Yay? Hades is escorted back to the Isle and has a nice little moment with Mal, giving her the ember. Celia, Uma, Harry and Gil also go back to the Isle. Mal and Ben attend their engagement party and she surprisingly declares that she can’t be the Queen of Auradon - she can’t turn her back to the Isle. So in conclusion of a long speech, they open the barrier (even though the Beast is against it but Ben shushes him :D) and Mal becomes the Queen of Auradon and the Isle. (”Break This Down”) The people from the Isle (with Uma’s leading) notice this too and meet some of Auradon’s people halfway and have this big closing number with lost of dance and singing.
And then people rejoice. Gil and Jay seem to have sparked a friendship. Harry brings comedy to the scene being like “so she’s deeeefinitely taken?” bout Mal, then trying to make a move on Evie and finally Uma who’s not having it. And then Harry ends up dancing with Audrey. Okay, seems legit. Then there’s Hades, being happy for Ben and Mal (and also giving Ben the “i’m watching you eyes”). They dance into the palace yard (or somewhere) and the scene cuts to the core four, staring at the passageway to the Isle, apparently to go meet their parents (cause they didn’t come to Auradon?) and the end credits roll.
ALRIGHT.
Plotwise yes, it’s a clusterfuck. The whole movie is very rushed, it’s like they tried to include too much things. Like said, at the end of D1, it seemed that Audrey and Mal were somewhat civil, then Audrey was spending some time in the fairies cottage/seven acres woods/something like that in D2 and we didn’t see her at all. Suddenly she’s all hateful and resentful again and her grandmother is being a total jerk to her. Whole turning into evil happened almost right after the movie opened so there was no proper lead to it really. Nothing to explain WHY Audrey went back to resenting Mal and Ben and Auradon.
Then Mal’s father. Alright, pretty much everyone knew by now that Hades was gonna be Mal’s father even though I recall that in the first movie or somewhere else it was said that it was a human male. What happened in their past could’ve and more so SHOULD’VE been dug into a little more cause Mal is resentful at him for not being around - but why wasn’t he around? Why didn’t he call her? After all, he had been asking about her from Celia so obviously he does care for her.
The other VK’s were even more pushed to the side than before. I do get that Mal is kind of the lead here, but they did kind of sideline their character development. The other VK’s were in such minor roles I could easily say that they might as well be taken out altogether. Evie tried to be a peacemaker, she gets a few lines in couple of songs and one song to herself. Her character has also been very confident and craving for love, kind of seducing Doug in the first movie and making him accidentally jealous in D2 and suddenly she’s insecure? Yeah, love can be scary sometimes but of all the characters I just don’t see it characteristic to Evie to suddenly become uncertain of herself in the terms of love. Jay’s more like acting as a guide to good to Gil and Harry for the time being and Carlos is just being his adorable self. Still can’t believe there was no Jarlos kiss! (also he got Jane a pendant saying “Jarlos” as her birthday gift, how adorbs!)
The main problem is that there isn’t really a proper climax in the movie. It starts off god and then falls flat on it’s ass. May I also point out that not ONCE in these movies have Mal and Ben had a duet together - yes they’ve shared songs but also with other people in them - and they are the “true love” couple after all which is a bit disappointing. I mean Ben has been kind of put into thee background in the movies too - and in this last one even more so, whenever the core four have been side to side. But even in the last movie - since they’re engaged after all - I was surprised that when they opened the barrier, Jay was next to Mal (as well as Evie), squishing her hand and her leaning into him. In the end Ben is the king and Mal’s fiancee so in my opinion, he should’ve been next to Mal, not behind her (as much as I do love Mal). And I mean I was also waiting that the other VK’s would’ve met their parents too. But no. Disappointment.
In a nutshell D3 is a movie about Audrey being a resentful brat and turning dark, introducing Mal’s dad pretty shallowly adding pretty much nothing into her story arc or character development. Except her forgiving her father pretty fast. Too much is trying to be fitted into 1hr45mins. Mal and Hades could’ve had their own movie working it out. Audrey could’ve had a thorough build up to what led her to the dark path.
Aesthetically it’s very pleasing and I enjoyed the music and I do love the cast. The end was kind of bittersweet and the whole movie was a bit unreal once you know that Cameron is no longer with us (rest in peace). So this is and end of and era. Despite this honest and well - unfiltered - review I thank the cast and crew of Descedants from the bottom of my heart that they have brought these movies to us.
Long live the VK’s!

Friday Part 1
This is my first fic EVER. I have no idea how it is or if it's any good. Let me know what you guys think please!! I did this for @tephi101 and her writing challenge! Your challenge gave me the courage to try this out!! Hopefuully I don't disappoint!
Warnings: Body insecurity, language, slightly NSFW, I think that's it? Idk.
Word count: Idk, this shit really got away from me lol. I wanted to put one of those cuts to keep reading, but I didn't know how to do that! Sorry ahead of time!
"Hey, can I get a large iced white mocha please?" you ask the barista of your favorite coffeehouse. She rings you up and hands your card back to you as you make your way down the counter to the spot you get your drink. The coffeehouse was unusually busy for a Friday morning. People are filtering in and out every 30 seconds it seemed. Your drink order gets called out and you take it with a small smile as you scope out a place to sit where you won't be noticed as much.
It's not that you didn't like your appearance today or anything, in fact you actually felt pretty confident since your makeup was on point and you were wearing something other than sweatpants for once (because let's be honest, a hoodie, sweatpants, and your hair in a messy bun was about as good as it got most weekdays). The crowd itself was just overwhelming for a smaller cafe. Luckily, you found yourself a little corner with dim lighting and a big well-loved arm chair.
[[Keep reading]]
You settled in, crossing your legs in the wide chair, setting your drink down on the end table next to it, and opened your book of the day; which happened to be The Hobbit. After about 40 pages in, you were in the same position you get into every time you get into a good book: somehow your face was very close to the pages, you're eating up the words on the page like candy, your iced white mocha nearly forgotten in the corner of your eye. The fairy lighting and relaxing acoustic music sucked you in even further. Nothing could tear you from your peaceful moment. Nothing at all. Except for a certain deep voice.
You look up for the first time in who knows how long as see a group of guys entering the cafe, their backs to you. Your eyes dart back to your book momentarily as you grab your drink and take a long sip until you hear one of them laugh. You look up and nearly choke on your swallow. You'd know that face anywhere. Alex Høgh Anderson.
Ever since you started watching the show Vikings, you'd been hooked. As his character was introduced, you initially did NOT care for him. You were more a fan of Bjorn and Lagertha. But as the show went on, you found yourself more and more fascinated in his character. Of course, since you were on tumblr, you saw all the background pictures, interviews, stories, and etc on all the cast. Let's be honest, they were all gorgeous. The men and the women. But Alex's humor and overall demeanor really drew you in. And although you lived in Dublin, you never expected to see any of them there.
You tried to place the other people with him. One was Jordan Patrick Smith. God he was attractive too. But Alex looked like a straight up snack. You realized you had been staring at their group and quickly looked back down to your book, reaching for your drink again. Never in your life have you had this much trouble focusing on reading. Alex and Jordan's group had sat down in the middle of the cafe. You looked around and noticed you weren't the only one gawking at then. A group of barely legal looking girls walked up to their table and asked for a picture. A couple other people followed suit. Part of you wanted nothing more than to go up there and do the same. But your head was telling you differently. The poor guys had barely been able to take a sip of their drinks yet. And you had a feeling that even if you did go up there, words would fail you and your stand in front of them wanting to say so much, but unable to say anything at all.
So instead, you settled for (not so subtly) looking over at them every few minutes or so. After about 10 minutes, the espresso had gotten into your system and you had to pee. Unfortunately, the bathroom was on the other side of the cafe. Past THEIR table. You sighed and put your book away, grabbed your empty cup and walked over to the trash to throw it out. You started walking slowly toward the bathroom, the congestion of the cafe working in your favor as you could hide behind the taller people. But then the tall guy in front of you looked down at you and moved to the side saying "oh sorry there darlin, here come on through" and you were directly in front of their table. And Alex was facing you. He looked up at you and your eyes met for a split second before you tripped over your own shoe and stumbled forward. Thankfully, you caught yourself before falling completely over, and pursed your lips together tightly. You looked to their table again, awkwardly sighed and said "woo, that could've been worse..." and gave them a sheepish smile. Alex flashed a bright smile at you and laughed softly as the others chuckled.
You quickly walked past them to the bathroom and practically ran into the stall. Your hand was shaking slightly you noticed, you grabbed it with your other and forced yourself to take a deep breath. You didn't even want to know how red your face was. You could feel your cheeks burning. An inner monologue started playing in your head. 'You have to say something to them!' 'NO. Was two minutes ago not enough a reason to save yourself more embarrassment??' 'You'll probably never get a chance like this again.' 'Yeah, but what difference would it really make, they would probably forget about you 30 seconds after you say something.' You sighed and put your face in your hands as you muttered "I'm just gunna wing it."
You exited the bathroom and peeked around the corner. They were still there. You made your way over slowly, looked at the floor. Your heart was racing. Just as you approached their table, you realized no words were going to come out. Alex stood up just as you were passing and you ran right into him.
"Oh shit I'm so sorry!!" You squeaked
"No no, please! That was all on me!" Alex said
His hand touched your shoulder as you both steadied each other. His charming smile and blue eyes seemed to bore into your soul.
"Geez Alex, way to run into the beautiful lady just trying to get past your tall ass!" Jordan shouted with a smile
Alex sighed dramatically and rolled his eyes, his hand still on your shoulder you noticed
"I said I'm sorry!" He retorted with a smile
He seemed to realize his hand was still on you as he quickly moved it and muttered another apology. You smiled and found one shred of confidence as you said "No really, it's no problem Ivar." You said slyly.
He paused and did a double take back at you as a smile started to form on his face. His friends all started smiling too, Jordan especially. You heard him say "daaaaaamn" under his breath. You forced yourself to hold your confident smirk and you stared each other down. Alex broke the stare first, pulling out his phone to look at the time. Or so you thought. In reality, Alex had to find a reason to not keep looking at you because you were one of the most gorgeous women he had ever seen. Even though you weren't super dressed up or anything, something about you drew him to you. And those eyes. Damn those eyes, he thought to himself. He fought back the giant smile as he looked back up at you. You were still staring at him.
"Actually, my name is Alex. Not Ivar, although I guess you could call me whatever you prefer" he said with a smile
"I...uh...I know..." you replied hesitantly. "I'm Y/N."
Alex's brows furrowed in confusion "You knew huh?" He started smirking as he rubbed his jaw. "How come you didn't come up and say hello before?" He asked
You shuffled your feet uncomfortably "I just didn't want to bother you guys, you seemed to have a lot of fans coming up to you already"
Alex looked over at Jordan quickly as they shared a look. Jordan then looked around to the other guys in the group, all of them smiling at you. Alex cleared his throat
"Well I dont know what you're up to later, but feel free to meet up with us later if you want. We were gunna hit the bars" he offered shyly, shrugging his shoulders.
You blinked a few times, wondering if you heard him correctly or not. You couldn't have.
"Wait...like....hang out with you guys...? Tonight?" You stuttered
Alex's smile grew even wider. "Yeah!" He said excitedly. "We can exchange numbers so we can meet up with each other tonight if you're down?"
You were pretty sure you were dreaming at this point, but figured why stop now. "Sure! I'd love to. My friend and I were going to go to the bars tonight anyway."
"Oh sweet" Alex said, handing you his phone with a new contact open. You entered your info and switched phones, him doing the same thing. You gave each other your phones back and you both cleared your throats at the same time.
"Aww how cute" Jordan joked, looking at you two standing next to each other.
"Fuck off Jordan" Alex said with a laugh. You giggled and pulled your purse up to your shoulder, looking up at him.
"Well, I've gotta get going. But it was really nice to meet you....Ivar" you said with a smile. He chuckled and nodded his head. "I'll uh....I'll see you later?" You questioned. Half expecting him to be like 'ha yeah right!'
"Yeah! I'll look forward to it." He said, wrapping an arm around your shoulders in a side hug. You instinctively leaned into him and hugged him back. GOD HE SMELLS AMAZING you thought to yourself. You broke the hug and offered them one last smile before heading out the door.
~back at your apartment~
You started down at your phone. The same open message that you've been staring at for the past 5 minutes. You had started a message to Alex several times now, but kept erasing it. You had no idea how to start a conversation with him. What if he just felt put on the spot to give you his number because people were watching? Doubt started to creep into you as your phone buzzed. Startled, you jumped and looked at your phone. It. Was. Alex. HE was texting YOU. You couldn't help the smile that crept to your face, threatening to stretch so wide it may hurt.
*Hey Y/N, it's Alex-looking forward to seeing you tonight! Here's the first club we are going to*
You typed a reply quick before jumping in the shower. You still had the whole afternoon to get ready, but you wanted to shave. God only knows how long that takes you. Plus you had to pick out an outfit. Thankfully, your best friend and roommate was coming over to help. She barged in on you during your bath with your phone in her hand.
"Yo! Who's blowing up your phone?? Its been buzzing nonstop for the past 5 minutes!" She giggled
"What?? Uhh....I don't know...lemme see" you replied. You grabbed your phone and saw that you had a friend request from Alex on social media, and three messages from him. Instantly, you had that big goofy smile on your face as you read his messages.
"Oh girl, I know that look. You're talking to a guy!! Who is it?? Please god don't tell me it's Matt." She said
"What?! No Taylor, it's just...uhm....his name is Alex." You said softly. Your best friend watched Vikings too. Although she had more of a thing for Ubbe. You suddenly remembered that you met Jordan too and started to laugh, shaking your head in disbelief. Taylor was looking at you incredulously, waiting for you to explain. You got out of the bath and dried off, explaining the whole thing.
"OH MY GOD Y/N, HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET SO LUCKY?? OMG I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!! I'M GOING TO MEET THEM TONIGHT HOLY SHIT!!"
You just laughed and agreed. You still half thought it was a dream. Over the next few hours, you and Alex texted each other nonstop about anything and everything. He actually seemed a lot more laid back then you thought. You knew he was famous and obviously fucking hot as hell. You figured he was like most men you've dealt with like that: condescending assholes whose egos were so huge their head barely fits through the door. But to your delightful surprise, Alex wasn't coming across that way.
After getting all dolled up, you put on a pretty simple dress that showed off your substantial curves and was sexy, but not over the top. Taylor was slightly more dolled up than you, her ample cleavage looking perfect in her dress. You were always a little envious of your best friend. She was taller, skinny, tan, looked like she belonged on the runway. Trying to shove your insecurities to the back of your mind, you put on your shoes and went downstairs to get in the taxi.
Once you guys got to the bar, you texted Alex to tell him you were here. He let you know they were by the bar. You took a deep breath and opened the doors of the club. The music was pounding. You could feel the bass in your skin. It smelled of whiskey, cologne, and fresh air, since the club had an outside area open to the main space. You loved it. You guys both made your way over to the bar where you immediately saw Alex. He looked AMAZING. You eyes widened as you shamelessly checked him out, seeing as how he hadn't seen you yet.
Your best friend made your presence known before you could, squealing as she saw the guys. They all turned and greeted both of you. Taylor immediately asked them all for pictures. You were awkwardly standing to the side waiting for her to be done. Staring at him. Again. So you decided to go order a drink. A lovely rum and coke. As you grabbed your drink, you spun around to go back to the group and nearly smacked right into Alex. You shrieked softly, your hand resting against his chest so you didn't fall.
"Hey! I was wondering where you went off to!" Alex yelled over the music
"Yeah! Sorry, I just needed a drink!" You yelled back. You noticed he was staring at you, admiring your outfit.
"You look fucking amazing Y/N!! You looked beautiful before, but damn!" He said
Heat instantly flooded to your cheeks, as you smile slightly. "Thank you! You look great too!! But you always do" you said, not believing that last part slipped out. He chuckled and thanked you. Grabbing your hand, he pulled you back over to the group where everyone had now merged.
As the night went on, you all kept happily drinking and dancing and talking. Alex seemed to always have a little part of his body touching you. His shoulder touching yours, knees touching, thighs up against yours. You were feeling pretty good, multiple drinks in, but not drunk. Alex was the same way.
Suddenly Earned It by The Weeknd came on, which was always you and Taylor's go to song when you were feeling yourselves. She squealed and ran over to you, grabbing your hand and pulling you to the dance floor. You both started dancing sexily and singing together. Little did you notice Alex staring right at you while you danced.
"Dude, you are literally undressing her with your eyes" Jordan laughed.
"I can't help it" Alex admitted, not even looking at him as he replied. "She's just so fucking attractive. My God. LOOK AT HER DANCING RIGHT NOW. I. CAN'T." he whined. Jordan just laughed and slapped him on the shoulder.
The song ended and you made your way back over to Alex, new drink in hand. He hadn't picked his jaw up off the floor yet, still blatantly admiring you. You gave him a confused look. "What?" You asked him
"You are really fucking attractive. That's all." He simply said.
You blushed again and forced a laugh. "Yeah. Right. I REEK sexiness" you retort, making a dramatic pose. Alex looked at you in a way you hadn't seen before. Confused? Sad?
"You dont think you're attractive Y/N?" He asked.
"Well...I mean I guess I'm okay. I wouldn't say I'm hot or anything. I mean not like Taylor. Or you" you added with a laugh. Alex opened his mouth to say something, but just then a group of girls wearing very sleazy outfits came up and asked him for his autograph and a picture. You sighed and started to feel your emotions get the better of you. You and your damn emotions. They came without warning. You could feel the tears threatening to spill over, suddenly feeling not at all confident about yourself. You walked over to the outdoor area and leaned against the railing where few people were.
You breathed in deep and sighed, admiring the view from high up on the building. You felt one tear fall over your cheeks as you sniffled. Suddenly, a finger was on your cheek, wiping the tear away. You turned and saw Alex, looking at you bewildered.
"Y/N, you're crying. What's wrong? Did something happen??" Panic was in his voice and you felt bad for scaring him. It wasn't his fault.
"No, it's nothing. I just got a little overwhelmed is all." You lied. He didn't buy it. He leaned against the railing next to you, arm right against yours.
"You don't have to tell me, but please let me know if it was something I did. I don't ever want to make you feel bad" he said softly.
Maybe it was the alcohol or maybe it was how incredibly sweet he was being, but you shuffled until you were facing each other and hugged him full on nice and tightly. He didn't hesitate hugging you back, running his hand up and down your back. "What's wrong love?" He whispered.
You sighed and looked up at him, not breaking the hug. "It's just hard to feel confident when all the women around you look like they are movie stars and your short, chubby, and uncoordinated." You admit.
You feel his hands on your face, either side of your cheeks, as he makes you look up at him. "Y/N, you are unbelievably gorgeous. You are. Everything about you is amazing. I've only known you for a day, and you're already one of the most incredible women I've met. I feel like I've known you for a long time. You're just a kind, good person who happens to also be crazy beautiful. I've had to stop myself from kissing you the entire night" he confesses, stroking your cheek
You grin up at him and start laughing, a small tear falling on his hand which he wipes away. "You're amazing, you know that? Why couldn't you just be an asshole, that would make not falling for you so much easier" you joked.
His eyes crinkled as he smiled and shrugged, pulling your face up as he captured your lips with his. You both closed your eyes, smiling into the kiss. You wrapped your hands around him, tugging him closer. He laughed against your lips and moved his hand to the back of your head to deepen the kiss. You moaned softly into the kiss, getting completely lost in the moment.
"FOUND THEM!!" you heard Jordan yell, causing you both to break apart startled. You looked and saw your friend wrapped around Jordan and the rest of the group gawking at you both.
Alex and you both laugh, you hid your face in his neck as he laughed louder and cradled your head, kissing the top of it. "Come on hun, let's go" Alex said, grabbing your hand and walking over to the rest of the group.
You guys all had too much to drink after that and had to get another cab home. You, Alex and one of his buddies were in the back. Alex couldn't keep his hands off you the whole way home, not that you minded. You were thoroughly wrapped up in him, sitting on his lap drunkenly yelling Bohemian Rhapsody with the rest of the car. Alex was laughing heartily at your singing as he joined you, hands rubbing up and down your sides. The song concluded and a slower song came on. You leaned back into his chest and closed your eyes happily. Alex started placing light kisses along your neck, going down to your shoulder. You moaned softly then started laughing, suddenly remembering there were other people in the car. You shifted and looked back at Alex giving him a warning glance.
"Hunny, they're toasted. I doubt they even realize what planet they're on" he chuckles
"I can't keep quiet if you keep kissing on my neck like that" you said with a smirk. That got his attention. You felt him grow underneath you.
"Then I guess I should kiss somewhere else" he said slyly. He looked around to see if anyone was paying attention, which they weren't. He gently pulled your dress just past your shoulders as he placed feather light kisses along them, moving to the middle of your upper back as his hand moved down to your hip. You groaned and grinded yourself down into his lap, making him audibly groan in return. He bit your shoulder softly, causing you to jump and let out a little squeal.
"You little...." you trailed off, too turned on to care. You couldn't see him, but you knew he was smirking against your skin.
"Little what Y/N, hmm?" He hummed, sliding his far hand closest to the door under your dress and lightly tracing your panties as he made his way closer to your core.
Your breath hitched in your throat as you leaned your head back and whispered "kiss me" to him. He needed no further instruction as he captured your lips in a hungry kiss. You both softly moaned into each others mouths. His tongue traced your bottom lip asking for entrance and you gladly accepted, tongues dancing with each other. He bit your lip as he slid his hand under your panties. You gasped, rolling your hips to meet his touch. Just as his hand started to move to your middle, the taxi stopped.
You both broke apart, coming back to reality. Everyone else in the car seemed oblivious to what had just happened. You giggled, pressing your forehead against his as you both laughed.
"They didn't see a damn thing" he laughed, giving your kiss a cheek before opening the door for you. You were at his and Marco's place. Jordan and Taylor were still attached at the hip, which made you smile.
"Y/N!! I love you!" She yelled drunkenly.
You laughed and yelled back "I love you too!"
The rest of the group headed inside. Alex stopped by the door and pulled you against him. "You are so beautiful, you know that?"
You blushed again and smiled up at him. "If you say so!" You giggled. He looked down at you smugly.
"See! I knew I'd get you to admit it!" He joked
"If you keep looking at me like that, I'm going to slap that smirk right off of your smug face" you joked. He laughed heartily at that and kissed your forehead.
"Fair enough. So.. should we go continue where we left off my gorgeous lady?" he asked hopefully.
You smiled widely at him and nodded. Yes Ivar, I think we should". You didn't need to turn around to know that he was smirking.
@thevikingsheaux @stardustandbucky what do you guys think??

Word Count: 1,463
Summary: Growing up with a strict and judgmental family has made you scared to tell them that you’re bisexual, and on top of all that, you’re also scared of losing your boyfriend due to it. But when your friend comes out as bisexual, it gives you the confidence to admit the truth.
“And this is my beautiful daughter (Y/N). (Y/N) come here.” you heard your mother’s voice call from across the room. You turned to her and sighed before walking across the room hand in hand with your boyfriend.
You were both currently at a graduation party for a long time friend, Lee Soomi, who had graduated college, and you couldn’t feel more suffocated. You two had always known each other, as your parents were best friends, but the way your mother talked about her accomplishments made you feel horrible. Although, her accomplishments meant nothing when she walked into the party with her girlfriend.
That’s right. Your parents were snobs. Overall, they were nice people who never had a problem with anyone and kept to themselves, but that wasn’t how they were when it came to love. To put it plainly, they were one of the most homophobic people you knew. So when Soomi told her parents that she was bisexual and that she was currently dating a girl named Kang Heiran, my mother took it as her opportunity to show off that her own daughter was not bisexual and dating a respectable man named Min Yoongi.
“(Y/N) here is a good friend of Soomi. And this is her boyfriend Min Yoongi.” your mother smiled as she introduced you both to some people you didn’t recognize from her work. You smiled and politely bowed to the ladies and watched as Yoongi followed your movements.
“Ah what a cute young couple. It looks as though at least someone can expect grandchildren from their only child.” A woman laughed, patting your mother on the shoulder as she giggled. You felt infuriated at their jokes, and deciding that it wasn’t worth your time to follow their hateful conversation, you tugged in Yoongi’s hand and excused yourself from the group. Once you were outside and away from the gossiping group, you felt Yoongi pull you back against him.
“Hey now princess. What has you more fiery than a dragon hmm?” Yoongi questioned, looking into your eyes with a soft smile. You pouted and leaned your head into his chest, avoiding eye contact.
Growing up with Soomi had made the two of you very close, and like any other group of girl friends, you had been able to tell each other everything. Before she had come out to her family, Soomi had told you that she was bi, and you had been the one to convince her that her parents would be okay with the truth and love her and her girlfriend unconditionally. Now, here you were, in the same shoes and yet hiding the truth from your parents and boyfriend alike.
“I just can’t stand the things they were saying about Soomi. She’s a great girl and being bi and having a girlfriend doesn’t define that!” You argued with no one, knowing that you were getting angry at Yoongi for no reason. You sighed and looked up to meet his eyes as he rubbed your arm comfortingly. “I just don’t see why it has to be a bad thing. She’s happy…”
“I agree. I don’t think it changes her one bit and I’m glad she has a devoted friend to defend her and comfort her.” Yoongi assured you. You smiled. Gaining a bit of confidence to tell him the truth just as Soomi had told her family.
“Actually, Yoongi… I-”
“(Y/N)! There you are!” you heard Soomi call to you from the other side of the yard and lightly jog to your side, Heiran by her side. You smiled and hugged her while Yoongi smiled and waved, having met her multiple times.
“How are you doing?” you asked Soomi, noticing her somber attitude.
“Oh me? Other than the constant comments on how I’m never going to bring happiness to my family and how I’m not fulfilling a woman’s duty, I’m doing great!” Soomi cheered sarcastically. You frowned and hugged her comfortingly as her girlfriend took her hand.
“Try not to mind then Soomi. You know it’s just them freaking out. I mean your parents were alright with it…” you offered, hoping to cheer her up. She nodded softly and leaned on Heiran.
“Yeah my parents did take it well and I am happy. I just wish their friends would be supportive or leave. I mean… no offense, but I think your parents are the worst ones.” Soomi stated.
“I know and I’m sorry. I wish I could talk to them and get them to understand rather than just be afraid and skeptical about it all…” you contemplated. Soomi laughed and shook her head.
“Soomi, I know it’s not quite my place to give you a whole lot of advice as I’ve not been in your situation, but if it was me I would just show them that they’re wrong. Show them your happiness, show them how well you can do, and prove to them that it’s nothing wrong to live your life and be happy. Don’t let the negativity drag you down, but rather try and use it to find a way to build yourself up.” Yoongi explained.
You looked at Yoongi, smiled softly at his kind words as he looked to Soomi and Heiran. They both nodded and locked their fingers together.
“Thank you Yoongi, we’ll try that. Enjoy the rest of the party, and be sure to get some of the free food!” Soomi laughed, skipping to he waiting parents with her girlfriend.
You giggled watching your friend skip across the lawn before looking back to Yoongi, who was already looking at you. You blushed under his gaze and gently reached to grab his hand, pulling him away from the main part of the yard and around to the corner where Mrs. Lee had her small vegetable garden.
You sat down in the grass and gently patted the ground beside you as Yoongi also took a seat. At this point he knew that you wanted to talk to him alone and he was more than willing to sit and listen to anything you had to tell him.
“What’s going on in your mind princess?” Yoongi whispered, knowing you would hear him.
But you were deep in thought on your own. You knew now that Yoongi would more than likely be supportive if you told him the truth, and that gave you more confidence, yet for some reason you were still frozen in fear. Maybe it was knowing that no matter what your parents would fail to support you, or maybe it’s the fact that you were scared that even if he supported you he wouldn’t stay with you, and losing Yoongi would kill you inside.
“(Y/N). You know you can tell me anything? And you know I love you right?” Yoongi said, moving his hand to your face to lightly trace your cheek before turning your head to face him. You nodded and took in a breath, looking into his eyes.
“I’m scared Yoongi… I’m scared of what will happen and what you’re going to think…” you rambled, playing with your nails. He laughed lightly and gently wrapped your hands in his, moving to sit behind you as he rested his chin on your shoulder. His legs stretched out on your sides and you leaned back into his hold.
“Don’t be scared.” He comforted. You looked down to his hands and smiled.
“Yoongi… what would you say if I told you I was the same as Soomi? That I was bisexual?” You whispered. You felt your boyfriend move behind you, releasing your hands to lean back and support himself.
“Bisexual hmm? Well… what does that have to do with anything?” Yoongi asked, noticing as you turned to look over your shoulder at him. “You’re still my girlfriend, and I don't care about that kind of stuff. If you’re happy then I’m happy, and if you’re interested in men and women, then that just means I’ll have to work harder to ensure that I’m the only one to keep your attention.”
You smiled back to him and turned to face him. “So… do you think we should tell my parents, or will it kill their pride?”
“Oh we should totally tell them. I’d like to have all their boasting and shaming thrown back into their face. Besides, you’re their daughter and you’re perfect, so if they can’t love you then I’ll be sure to love you enough in their place.” He smiled, standing and offering his hand. You took it and he pulled you to your feet.
“Alright princess, let’s go ruin your parents night and then go prance around with Soomi and Heiran just to piss them off more!” he cheered, causing you to laugh as you followed him to tell your parents.
~~~~
So here’s my new lovely requested story! I hope the person who requested this is happy with the result and I hope I didn’t somehow offend anyone with it because if I did please let me know! I was trying to get this out before the month ended and pride month was over so I hope this is good! Anyway I hope everyone is happy and has a good day and I’m sorry that I’m slow because having a job and being an adult sucks! Love you all!💜
The Princess and the Twins
By: SassyShoulderAngel319
Fandom/Character(s): Avengers - Steve Rogers/Captain America
Rating: PG
Original Idea: Single Parent!AU, y’all!
Notes: (Masterlist)(About Me) This is the second LOOOOONG one in a row. (That I wrote not posted.) Wow. It just kinda ran away from me. @steverogersnotebook This is the one I wasn’t sure if I was ever going to finish! (That title sounds like a band name.)
^^^^^
I sat on the bench at the station, waiting for my train. With headphones in and a sad song playing, I stared at the ground. It was my weekly existential crisis of oh-boy-what-am-I-doing-with-my-life time so I was completely lost in my own little world.
Until a little blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl boosted herself up onto the bench right next to me. She was probably four.
I paused my music and pulled my headphones out, shoving them into my bag.
“Hello,” I greeted, slightly awkwardly, as I looked around for her parents or guardians or whatever—some adults who she was with.
With any luck this kid had been taught Stranger Danger and wouldn’t say much to me, but would let me help her find her grownups while sitting on the same bench. She wasn’t crying so I assumed she hadn’t gotten lost, per se. She probably ran off, distracted by a butterfly in her mind, since the station was indoors.
“Are you a princess?” she asked me.
I looked down at her, confused but also amused, and finally got a good look at her. She was wearing an American flag shirt, frilly denim skirt with cotton shorts underneath, and Velcro kids’ Converse. There was some glittery face paint of a star on her cheek farthest away from me and she had sparkly red nail polish on her tiny fingernails.
Raising my eyebrows, I smiled at her. “Am I a princess?” I repeated back at her cheerfully. “Why do you think I’m a princess?”
“Because princesses are always the prettiest ladies! And princesses wear pretty dresses!”
I tucked the skirt of my dress slightly under my leg and put my hand on my chest. “Aw! You’re so cute. And I’ll tell you a secret.” I bent forward a little in a non-threatening way. “I am a princess!” I stage-whispered near her ear. My whole grownup life I’d done my best to encourage imagination in the children around me—my neighbors’ kids and grandkids, my nieces and nephews, my young cousins—because I felt like imagination was a resource that some people were losing but other people never ran out of.
The little girl gasped. “You are?!” she stage-whispered back in awe.
“Yes I am. But you can’t tell anyone, okay?”
She nodded. “Okay.”
“RED!” a frantic voice shouted.
The girl and I looked up, following the sound.
A handsome, six-foot-two, muscular-as-heck man pushed his way through the small crowd at the station towards us, carrying another little girl in one arm. He had the same blond hair and blue eyes as the girl sitting next to me.
When he broke through the line of people separating us from him, the girl next to me hopped down from the bench. “Dad!” she squealed excitedly, running over to him.
“Red, honey, you can’t go wandering off like that! You scared me!” the man admonished gently, picking her up in his other arm. The second little girl was probably the same age as the first, but looked frail and younger. She had brown hair and brown eyes. Her eyes were sharp even if her legs and arms were thin for being around four.
“But, but, Dad! I found a princess!” Red told the man. He looked past her small face at me. I gave an awkward single wave, just tilting my wrist down and setting my hand back on my leg. The man approached me.
“I am so sorry if she was bothering you. She’s a bit of a handful. They both are.”
I shrugged. “It’s no problem. She was no bother. I have a lot of experience with kids.”
“See, Dad?” Red pressed, trying for quiet and utterly failing. Kids were so cute. “She’s in a pretty dress, she’s pretty, and she told me she was a princess!”
“I see that, sweetheart,” the man acknowledged. He turned back to me. “I’m Steve, by the way.” He paused for a moment. “Uh… I’d shake your hand, but… my hands are full.” He looked at his hands as he spoke, each cradling one of his daughters.
I laughed and stood up, slinging my bag securely onto my shoulder. “It’s fine. A slight breach of etiquette for a good reason is no breach of etiquette at all to me,” I dismissed.
Red didn’t like being ignored, apparently, and Steve wasn’t picking up on what she was trying to say. “Dad!” she complained. “You’re a king! So you have to marry a princess to have a queen!” Her tone was full of a “duh!” tone.
Steve blushed. “Sorry,” he muttered to me. “Ever since their mom died, Red here has been determined to find me a new ‘queen.’”
I chuckled. “No problem. She’s cute.”
“Dad!” Red protested. “She’s the first princess we’ve met! Aren’t you going to at least try to make her your queen?”
“Red, sweetheart, how about I give her my phone number, and she gives me hers, and then I can let her see if she would like to meet me again?”
“Okay!” Red replied brightly.
Steve sighed and gave me a small grin as I pulled out my phone. “I’ll forgive you if you just tell me your number instead of typing it into my phone yourself,” I commented casually, creating a new contact and writing Steve into the first-name section with an American Flag emoji next to it, taking a context clue for me later from Red’s outfit.
He recited his phone number as I plugged it in, and then showed him to make sure I got it right.
“That’s it,” he informed me.
I sent him a text with my name. “And now you have mine.”
“Daddy?” the other little girl asked. “Why didn’t Auntie Nat come with us?”
“Because she wanted to stay with her other nieces and nephews for another couple days. But I wish she’d come with us because then I’d have someone else to watch you two crazy kids,” Steve replied.
“Well, what train are you on?” I wondered.
“The eleven-twenty back to New York.”
“Hey so am I. If you want, I can sit by you and keep an eye on these two. I promise I’m not a kidnapper or anything.”
He shook his head. “I couldn’t ask you to—”
“Nonsense. If I spend the ride alone I’ll just listen to music and fall into the void of What-am-I-doing-with-my-life. I’d be happy to help.”
“Well… if you really wouldn’t mind…” Steve began.
“She wouldn’t!” Red put in enthusiastically.
Her frail little sister rolled her eyes.
“Red, leave that up to the princess,” Steve chastised gently. Red pouted.
“Well she’s right. I wouldn’t mind.”
“Well, then, princess, if you’d care to join us, I’d love to escort you to the train.”
I chuckled and readjusted my bag strap on my shoulder. “I’d consider it an honor, Your Majesty,” I remarked, taking his awkwardly-offered elbow. We strolled through the station towards the train we’d be getting on. I noticed that Steve had two little backpacks slung over his shoulders that I hadn’t seen before.
“So, this is Red,” I began, nodding at the blonde little girl. “But I don’t think you told me your name, sweetpea.” I looked at the brunette entreatingly.
Wide-eyed, she looked to her dad. He smiled and nodded. “You can tell her, honey,” he murmured.
“Peggy,” the little girl told me.
Steve grinned. “Their real names are Sarah and Margaret,” he explained. “Sarah was my mother’s name. But this little one’s favorite color is red so her uncle started calling her Red and it stuck.” He gave Red a pointed glance so I knew which twin he was talking about.
I nodded understandingly. “I see. I like Red. It’s a fun nickname.”
We reached the train. Steve jumped over the gap between the platform and the interior with ease, set Red down, and offered me his hand. I took it and let him help me hop the gap myself before he scooped his obviously-more-adventurous daughter back up. “Let’s go find some seats,” he told his girls. Peggy gave a tiny little nod and Red smiled widely with a more enthusiastic nod. I followed them down the aisle of the train until Steve found an open booth with a little table and four seats. “Here alright?” he asked me.
“Of course,” I answered.
“Mind if Red sits by you next to the window so she doesn’t run off?”
I laughed and held my hands out for the blonde twin. “Not at all.” She leaned towards me. I took her in my arms and set her down on the seat next to the window before taking the aisle seat for myself. Peggy sat across from her sister and Steve sat across from me. Red blabbered about “Uncle Bucky” and “Uncle Sam”—the latter of which made me furrow my eyebrows and think of those I Want YOU posters that turned into memes—for a while and Peggy doodled on a little notebook covered in scribbles.
“Princess?” Red asked after a couple minutes, poking me in the leg.
“Yes, sweetpea?”
“What’s it like running a kingdom?”
“It’s a lot of hard work—and I’m still learning how to do it—but it makes me a good leader and a thoughtful person. I have to carefully consider my actions and make the best decisions I can with what I have to work with. It’s not an easy job, but it is a good job.”
Red watched with rapt attention—even Peggy looked up from her notebook. Steve was grinning between me and his daughter.
I felt my phone buzz in my purse.
You certainly have a way with kids. It was from Steve.
I smiled across the table at him and shrugged. “I have a lot of kids in my family that I interact with,” I explained.
“Would you mind, I don’t know, maybe joining me for dinner some night so I can thank you for being so good to these two today—assuming I can find a babysitter?”
Peggy perked up. “Auntie Nat?” she asked.
“Or Uncle Tony!” Red put in excitedly.
“Not Uncle Tony,” Steve told his blonde daughter. “Last time I let him tend you two he let you play with tools and Peggy almost took her eye out.” Red drooped a little but agreed that wasn’t a good thing.
“I’d love to go to dinner with you whenever you can find a babysitter. I’m free most nights anyway,” I told Steve quietly. He smiled.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
Red started to stare out the window and Peggy went back to drawing. They were cute kids—and they had a very handsome dad. I was trying not to notice, but come on, how could one not notice? He was tall, blond, and chiseled.
Steve and I talked quietly during the ride, swaying with the movement of the train. I didn’t want the ride to end. It was just… nice. Pleasant. I hadn’t had such a good conversation with someone I’d just met in a long time. He was just easy to talk to. He had a good personality and when he listened to me talk I felt like he was really listening.
But all good things had to end. Eventually, with screeching brakes that made all four of us cringe, the train ground to a halt in the Big Apple. We were home.
After Steve and I got the girls off the train, he shook my hand. “I look forward to taking you out to dinner.”
“I look forward to joining you,” I replied.
Red looked up at me. “It was nice to meet you, princess,” she offered.
I smiled. “It was lovely to meet you as well.”
Peggy just gave me a timid wave from her dad’s arm. I waved back.
Steve took Red’s hand and the three of them went off in the opposite direction to me.
I smiled as I headed home. I liked Steve and his daughters. I couldn’t guarantee our date would go anywhere, but I kinda hoped it would. Poor guy. Single dad raising two daughters all on his own—and at such a young age too!—couldn’t have been easy.
Yeah. If the date went somewhere, maybe one day I could be the queen to his king, as Red suggested.
Modern AU Preview
I just start randomly free writing this and already have 7 pages XD I’ll have the first chapter in no time at this rate XDDD But here’s a preview to see if anyone is interested in this fanfic
They drove down to a restaurant with a large sign that read ‘The Dark Dragon’s Happy Hungry Bar & Grill’ in bright colored letters of green, blue, white and yellow.
“So this is the restaurant Valerie owns?” Yona asked, she’d seen the outside once from pictures that was shown to her, but this was the first time seeing it in person.
“Yeah, she and her brothers built it about four years ago, took every cent they had to pull it off but they’ve been successful.” Hak said with a proud smile. “I met Val for the first time when I tried the place out after my first night out here, and since she was looking for help I took the job right away…. You know the rest.” He rubbed his cheek that was slightly red when Yona giggled. Two years after he started working there Valerie had been flirting with him all this time that finally she just outright asked him out and he went for it, and they’d been dating ever since. “Anyway, when I called her this morning that we were back she said there was a staff meeting and hoped I’d drop in for just a moment. After that we can do whatever you want for the day, ok?”
“Alright, and I’d like to meet your co-workers.” Yona said with a soft smile as they walked in.
There was a beautiful man with silver hair that rushed to the door when he heard it open. “Hello miss! Welcome! How many of you are in your party today?” he was holding a few menus and was dressed in a white tux with a blue tie. He then blinked when he saw who was behind Yona. “Hak! I didn’t think you’d be in today.”
“Hey White Snake, where’s Val?” Hak waved him off.
The man looked completely irritated at that. “What have I told you about calling me that?! And who is this young lady with you? You better not be cheating on my sister or else I’ll-“
“She’s my sister, dumbass.” Hak growled, rolling his eyes. “And it’s not my fault your hairdo looks like a snake is crawling down your back, by the way is that a spider on your back?”
“WHERE?!?” the man jumped three feet into the air, panting down his back as if trying to brush off the imaginary bug.
Yona blinked at this exchange, then huffed and elbowed Hak. “I see you haven’t changed one bit, Hak. Teasing people is always your hobby. There’s no bug on his back.”
“Oh thank goodness!” the white haired man exhaled. “I apologize for that…” his cheeks flushed a little.
“It’s ok, that was just my stupid brother’s fault.” Yona extended her hand. “I’m Yona, nice to meet you. You must be one of Valerie’s brothers?”
“Yes I am, call me Kija.” The man replied, shaking her hand. “I imagine you’re here with Hak because he’s checking in with Valerie?”
“Yeah basically.” Yona replied. “Something about a meeting.”
“Basically just going over the new menus.” a younger boy stepped up with tan hair in a black shirt and a white apron. “That and I was trying out some new dishes. How are you doing Lightning Beast?”
“Huh?” Yona blinked at the nickname.
“I clean the tables and get the dishes done lightning fast, so Yoon here likes to call me the Thunder or Lightning Beast.” Hak chuckled as he explained.
“You must be Hak’s sister, Val mentioned he might bring you over.” The tan haired boy said. “As he said, I’m Yoon, I’m the genius cook here that keeps the people coming back for more.”
“Wow, you seem really young to be such a great chef!” Yona gasped. “You don’t look a day over 15! Can you even work here? Or are you one of Valerie’s brothers?”
“Hey that’s just a result of my amazing good looks, I’m actually 17. And no I’m not related to Valerie, she just hired me because I’m an awesome cook.” The boy answered. “Anyway Hak, Val’s in the back if you need her.”
“Hey is that Hak I hear out there?” a voice came from the bar area. “I knew he couldn’t stay away from here for long, and Valerie’s been itching to find out when he’d stop by.”
“I heard she got the whip out and made you cover for me, Droopy Eyes.” Hak sneered as he stepped over.
A man that matched Hak’s height stood up from behind the bar’s counter, in the middle of cleaning off a few glasses. He had long green hair in a ponytail and just smirked at Hak in response, he was in a navy-blue uniform. “Well Val has her ways of persuading me, she said you’d owe me one.”
“You owed me one, remember?” Hak replied, leaning his arm over the counter. “Or do I need to remind you of that time those girls got you strung out on-“ he was hushed by the green haired man’s finger on his lips.
“Now we agreed that never happened, remember?” the bar tender clicked his tongue, then smirked when he looked over Hak’s shoulder. “Ahhhh so this lovely lady must be Yona, right? Val’s told us so much about her but you failed to mention what a beauty she is, Hak.”
“Because I know how you are.” Hak replied with a grumble. “Yona this is Jae-ha, of all of Valerie’s brothers watch out for this idiot.”
“Oh Hak that’s so harsh, your words wound me.” Jae-ha said dramatically, placing a hand over his heart.
“Your reputation with women does merit Hak’s concern you know.” Kija said with a disapproving face.
“Yes, yes, brother dear.” Jae-ha waved him off. “Can I get you something Yona? After all when Val and Hak get into things it can be a while, after all they’re dying for contact with each other after a few short days...”
“Don’t make it sound lewd like that…” Hak growled.
“Ummm, I’ll take a Coke if it’s not too much trouble.” Yona took a seat on one of the stools. “Go ahead Hak, I can wait right here.”
“No trouble at all, for a girl as cute as a button like you.” Jae-ha winked, grabbing the soda for her.
“I’ll keep an eye on him.” Kija said as Hak sighed, heading to the back room with Yoon.
