Pixal + B ^^
B. Under Cover of Darkness
(Prompt List)
. . .
Behind the scenes is when and where Pixal performs most of her dramatic feats; fixing up the ninja’s mechs in record time, crafting new vehicles for them to use...and when she goes about her Samurai X activities that are off the record.
Criminals always expect the ninja, and sometimes they even look forward to it, given their widespread reputation. They rarely anticipate Samurai X to show up silhouetted against the moon, and hence why surprise has been her element of choice in several scuffles with many of Ninjago City’s various smaller-time hooligans.
But unfortunately, sometimes they get the drop on her as well, as she doesn’t always come home without the signs of a fight adorned on her. Scrapes, dents, parts knocked loose, snapped wires...most of it she’s been able to just patch up herself. Her first aid kit is full of spare parts, nuts and bolts, and even the occasional wielding torch...but the one consistent thing: it’s all handled by herself.
And, she has to. She’s not like the ninja, operating in a pack in broad daylight where help and assistance are always readily accessible...and moreover, she’s often the one who has to hurry after them all the time and pick up their slack wherever they slip up. There is no back up to call when Samurai X drops the ball.
She’s not bitter about it, really. This is what she chose for herself, and she very much prefers the burden of being responsible for just herself over a great many. If she miscalculates, rare as it may be, it only affects her, and it’s only her fault alone. Nothing gets muddled or mixed up in the process; everything is straightforward, cut and dry, just the way she likes it.
And, should something go wrong, she always has the cover of darkness to hide her mistakes away in, like slipping a secret beneath a metaphorical rug. May a misstep of hers never come to light.
...but tonight, when she drags her battered body up the stairs of the Monastery—mech shredded to pieces, eyes glitching out, and a limb threatening to cut loose—
...Pixal does wish, for just a moment, that she wasn't so drawn to operating alone the dark.
