So one thing I think is interesting in the whole Eddie and Christopher situation is that we never get to hear how Christopher feels about living in Texas vs LA. Or how Eddie's parents feel about it, for that matter. There's no conversation between any of them about how Christopher feels about living in El Paso (or even broaching the reason Chris wanted to move). All we know is what Eddie assumes to know, and is scared of: Christopher is more settled and is having more fun in Texas. That's why he's looking at houses in El Paso.
We see Chris have his birthday party with a bunch of new friends, and that he's enjoying swim club, but we don't know if he misses his friends in LA. We don't see Eddie ask about that either (not that there's much of an opportunity for it in that one video call).
It's implied that Eddie's parents are thinking about putting in a pool of their own because they expect Christopher to want to stay with them long-term, but Eddie never asks.
Eddie knows Christopher thinks trick-or-treating is cringe now, but is it because he feels like he's too old for it, or does he not want to be trick-or-treating with his grandparents? Maybe it's making him miss his dad, his family, his friends, so he rather just.. not? We don't know. Neither does Eddie.
When Christopher asks if Eddie will send him Brad's autograph to put in his room, Eddie says he was actually thinking about his room in LA, but doesn't wait for Chris to react to that, to clear up confusion, just says, yeah, he'll send it. He assumes that the fact that Christopher asked him if he'd send the autograph, means Chris has no thought of leaving Texas anytime soon. Does it? Or did Chris assume Eddie meant the room Christopher was talking to him from at that moment, the room in Texas?
Eddie doesn't ask. Is it because he's afraid of the answers? Is he scared to look this thing he fears, this potential loss, in the face because that's what makes it real?
Shannon didn't just die. She told Eddie that she wanted a divorce. She said, out loud, that she had to live her life without him.
Maybe he can't bear to hear Christopher tell him the same thing. So it's better not to ask.
