i've had different versions of this theory bouncing around in my head since mid s1, and if you've seen final destination, you can just skip the rest of the post because you probably already know where i'm going with this.

natalie's death scene was overall unsatisfying in my opinion, but that's not because i don't think that the show was leading up to it eventually. her character arc was rushed and cut off too abruptly, but after sitting with the episode for a bit, i do think that natalie was always going to be the first of the survivors we saw die.

"we both know that's not true. this is exactly where we belong. we've been here for years."

now it's notable that natalie is appearing as she did the night of the party in the pilot. the last night before the plane crash. not just her outfit, but her hair and make up are the same. see how much of her roots are grown out, vs how much they're grown out in the 96 timeline.

when that plane went down 600 miles off course, no one was supposed to survive. not a single person on that plane should have made it out. The Wilderness, the lonely, violent, misunderstood Wilderness kept them alive when they crashed into It. when they found cabin guy's plane back in s1, lottie looked at the vines growing around the wheels and said "It didn't want him to leave", and she was right. laura lee's trip ending in spontaneous combustion should have been enough to prove that if only they were paying attention by then.

they all should have died when that plane crashed. The Wilderness allowed them to survive, to make a home. albeit violently, tragically, It nurtured them through two winters, and ungratefully, they all left anyway. eventually they're all going to have to go home to It, one way or another, dead or alive. It's already been inside them for years.

Genuine question: why does disagreeing (without being all ‘u r wrong’, but simply just saying ‘cool! Here is my take on this’) with how others see a character get you immediately labled a ‘transphobe’? Or just labled as anything really. Like. Fandom space is for having fun, fandom space is a place of many different & wonderful headcanons & new ways of seeing things! Yet ‘headcanon’ is still not ‘canon’, and can be disagreed with. Hell, you can very well disagree with some of the stuff canon does! It doesn’t make it less canon of course, it just makes your experience with it more palatable to you.

So when a person says ‘here is my blorbo! I imagine him as trans and like viewing related content!’ and you say ‘awesome take, i bet there are a lot of interesting things you can do with this if you explore this more! I personally like thinking of this character & looking at content of him as biologically male, as described in canon!’ shouldn’t the answer be ‘wow! Two cakes! So cool!’ instead of ‘u r just a bigoted transphobe, the only right way to see him is as [insert specific gender identity] or literally as anything BUT what u see him as, because canon mentioned these select things that pertain to said character taking on masculine and feminine traits specifically from a narrative standpoint’ ??

I’m seriously just so lost. Just because someone doesn’t like seeing a certain character a certain way, (without disrespecting other interpretations,) it suddenly catapults them into being an awful person??? huh??

Now Is Not The Time To Be Arguing About Trans Headcanons. i'm answering this because i have a lot of thoughts on the nature of fandom, not because i think knee-jerk anger at anyone is helpful right now. if you're big mad, write to your senators or donate to the trevor project.

basically: it's twitter's fault. [not just twitter, but twitter is The example of this] the algorithms of most websites, especially social media websites, prioritize arguments and things that are generally clickbaity because if you're spending a lot of time arguing, you have your eyeballs pointed at the site for longer and therefore you see more ads and therefore the advertisers and therefore the app makes more money. therefore the kinds of "you're disagreeing me therefore you must be bigoted against my opinions" kind of kneejerk discourse gets a lot of clicks and very mainstreamed. this is an issue the entire internet has, and also politics. it's twitter's fault. i hate it here.

in the specific circumstance you're describing. it's a few things, a lot of it being. gestures at the current state of the world. there's a lot of genuine anger towards genuine injustice boiling inside of a lot of people, and it's getting thrown at the nearest target because systematic change is difficult and slow, and sometimes it feels good to give someone a hard time for a tiny microcosm of something you're angry about because you can't wrestle god or throw a brick at a politician.

a lot of us in fandom are queer and scared. it doesn't justify hurting other queer people over different interpretations of a media property, but that is often why it happens. can't stop current events? yell at someone you feel is putting art in the world that Isn't Queer Enough (don't fucking do that, yall. there is room in the world for a lot of art. and just because it's not Visibly Queer or Queer In The Way You Are doesn't make it less valid as art. certainly don't accuse people of bigotries about it.) or that they feel like their space is being encroached upon by an outsider (no one has to tell you their list of marginalized identities to have their art allowed past the threshold of Queer Enough! don't fucking do that either, yall! you sound like cops!)

there's also the fact that people tend to put themselves in their art and interpretations. so seeing "i don't view this character this way" can feel like "i don't think You are valid". it's important to recognize when you're taking something Personally when it Isn't Personal. you're allowed to have your Big Feelings about particular art or interpretations. god knows i do! but the artist probably has Big Feelings about their art too, and while you may not understand them, that should be respected.

and this "seeing yourself (or not seeing yourself and it hurts) in art" goes both ways. a lot of the same body types often gets headcanoned as trans, because it's a very easy in for Baby's First Trans Headcanon, and as far as human sexual dimorphism goes, there are some patterns. but, say, what if a skinny, short, baby-faced cis man wants to see art of babyfaced cis men, without feeling within the queer community the kind of scrutiny he experiences outside of it, the assumption that his masculinity must be different, that obviously someone who looks like that is a trans man. what if a six foot tall cis woman sees the way that big, tall women in media are so often headcanoned as trans, more often than shorter, thinner women, and feels othered by it? wanting to represent themselves in art does not become somehow less valid because of their gender identities. that's ludicrous.

but people are angry and scared, and people put themselves in their art, and people get angry when they feel like their space is being encroached on, and they lash out. it's not fair, and i hate how common it's become, but i see how it happened.

honestly, i've thought about this specific issue a lot, so thank you for possibly-baiting me, anon. this is such a. it's such a bubble issue, but it's a microcosm of a very widespread problem of outrage merchants and Doing Things Correctly and What Is Allowed To Be Queer.

it's all allowed. all of it. even the stuff you hate. even the stuff that's Too CisHet. there are so many bigger problems than fanwork right now.

i’ve been thing about your second point on the goodreads fanfic post for like two days now and the ways that capitalism is effecting peoples relationship with reading and you were so right. like i had never thought about why so many people feel the need to log every single page they read and meet some kind of goal to feel like what their hobby is productive. and how it is so looked down upon to read slower than average because is it even worth your time if you gonna take x hours to read just one book.

i feel like what you get out of reading should simply come from like the content you are reading rather than the fact that you can mark another book as ‘read’. like that’s got to take at least some of the joy out of reading if you constantly feel like you are just trying to meet some quota you set for yourself.

i’m not saying that it’s like entirely a bad thing to read just to Have Read and to meet your quota of reading x amount of books because obviously people will still read and enjoy books within those circumstances regardless of motivation. but long term i feel like that will just turn reading into another Capitalism Task and you will start to view it in the same way that you would view any other chore, rather than something fun or enjoyable or whatever other reasons people may have for reading, if that makes any sense at all.

i have definitely been influenced by this and genuinely had not realised so thank you for bringing it to my attention that capitalism has infiltrated my relationship with reading which i will now try to unlearn!

(also just to confirm i was not one of the people reviewing or logging fics on goodreads. i fundamentally disagree with doing that and always have. your post just made me thing about reading and capitalism in general, not like regarding that situation specifically)

ahhh this message made me so happy!! it's definitely one of those insidious things where like. i think it's very easy for this emphasis on "productivity" to just creep into your hobbies without even realizing, and i think it's important to try to be aware of the ways capitalism is influencing our mindsets bc when it DOES creep in like that i think it often sucks the joy away!

like i am very much a person who likes to keep track of things; i use letterboxd and storygraphs and make spotify playlists etc etc, but the key is like. it shouldn't be a chore to be keeping track of this stuff, y'know? like i'm not gonna beat myself up or get anxious if i forget to log a movie in letterboxd after watching it, and when i do set reading goals it's not something i'm really worrying about strictly adhering to.

and especially with reading...yeah i feel like. even if you want to keep track of what you read. it's really easy in this day and age to get sucked into this obsessive need to track every single page of every single thing you read, but it's like....why? to what end? so your handful of friends or followers know you Read A Lot? you're not being graded. you're not being paid for it. there's no reward for reading a certain number of pages in a year. and i think it can be easy to get so focused on reaching this arbitrary number that you've set for yourself that you start trying to just like. read as fast as possible without giving yourself time to really sit and enjoy a story. or you might start reading books you don't really care about or don't particularly enjoy just so you can Add It To Your List. and once things get to that point i really think it's just kinda sad more than anything, because i think this obsession with always being productive is starting to erode what should be a joyful and stress-free hobby.

anyway, i'm glad that u found my point on that post helpful!! at the end of the day i think if ur reading as a hobby it should always primarily be something that's bringing u joy, so if reading is ever causing you stress or if ur feeling guilty for not reading enough pages/not reading fast enough/not completing a reading goal etc etc it's always worthwhile to stop and reflect and ask where those feelings are coming from!

Well...I stared watching it at the end of March and have finished recently...yeah, took me a bit, but was worth it... Idk, if I'm the only one, but j tend to feel like I wanna kill myself after watching sth good (let me know, if I should get treated in the nearest psych ward or if it's normal and I can sleep peacefully)

Anyways, through this multi season anime (surprisingly shorter than IE, thank god) I could let go of all my worries again (oh, how i love fiction, it's much sweeter than real life🥲) and yeah, let's summarize some advantages of this show (⚠️: this is my honest opinion, not some expert speech, so feel free to disagree 😊)

• the seasons are surprisingly...shorter than I thought (comparison: some seasons in IE had 40 ep🤯🤯) - to be exact 11-12 per season, so watching a whole season a day won't overwhelm u 🥰

• there are lots of - I'd say unspoken cases and gaps - for example u won't see one character through the whole season, cuz it's so stuffed with "more important stuff" they left gaps there - it can be a good or a bad thing, depends on how u feel it, for me, personally is good, cuz I can keep wondering and imagining, what the characters could do in the meantime

• characters are based on fricking real writers and poets!!!! God, Asagiri is genius, how the guy conceived it I wonder...(+ They're smart af and the design is just muah, they're hotter then the inside of the Earth)

• there're fuckin references on those writers! I mean, the books, the personality traits, the small details in physical appearance, sometimes (although, not everything is according to reality, google it and see for ys, I won't spoil u the fun😊)

To conclude, go and watch BSD, it's worth your time & tears, I swear and don't forget to do some research on the real authors!!!

Although I do wonder if my favs would be different if i'd gotten into the show at a different time, like if i'd had more time with newer seasons and less nostalgia chaining me to the older ones lmao.

I AM SO PASSIONATE ABOUT THE IDEA THAT PRIME EMPIRE WAS WRITTEN TO BE A DIRECT PARALLEL OF SKYBOUND AND WAS CENTERED ON SHOWING HOW THE NINJA ESPECIALLY JAY HAVE GROWN THROUGHOUT THE SEASON

when season 12 rolls around we are at the point in Jay's development where he is CONFIDENT in who he is. He's a fun-loving jokester with the power of lightning and the drive to help people whenever he can. He uses jokes and humor to help alleviate tension and get people through whatever's happening. And when on his own what does he do?

BECOME AN ENTERTAINER BABEY

i like to think jay's club in prime empire was a safe haven for anyone stuck in the game who figured out hey. we Can't Leave and felt freaked about it. Also Jay would generally try and spread the word that hey something ISN'T RIGHT HERE which would lead people to want to stay with him

(totally plugging my friend's fic but this kind of thing is explored in would you like to enter prime empire by @finn-m-corvex y'all should check it out cool cool)

also the prime empire shorts which i watched all of in the midst of typing this video cuz i love them go watch them please please please jay was publically fighting the red visors which I imagine may have raised some red flags for some players

THIS SOMEHOW TURNED INTO PRIME EMPIRE INFODUMPING LMAO ANYWAYS Jay's confident! He becomes an entertainer because it's who he knows he is! And it's something that will get people hyped and having fun, which is very in-character for Jay to do! He uses those kinds of things to mask the Bad Things going on and get people remembering what's good

I've talked about this sort of thing before but that's Jay's whole philosophy as early as season 9! Which is a DIRECT contrast to how he views it in season 6, as Nadakhan puts it scarily accurately

"You make jokes to mask the fact that you're afraid"

making jokes to hide your fear and using humor to remind yourself of what's good and coping with the bad are two VERY different outlooks on it

so I think this outlook is what drives him to make this glamrock persona in the first place - this is a bad situation, one he's in with other civilians, and what better way to keep him and themself safe until the others get there than throwing a big performance at a safe place!

also it's just so gender okay I want to look like Superstar Rockin' Jay so badly

it's also interesting to see his outlook on his parents change over time! In season six he finds out Ed and Edna aren't his birth parents and feels upset about it, not understanding why his birth parents would've abandoned him. In season twelve, that outlook changing is EXACTLY why Jay's able to get through to Unagami

"I was abandoned by my parents, too!... I never understood why, and I never had the chance to even ask. But I always hoped there was a good reason. What if there's a reason?"

It's this scene that gets Unagami to calm down long enough for Milton Dyer to get there, and presumably is what stops him from just. Flattening him and Jay like a pancake.

to piggyback off of this i absolutely adore how Unagami and Jay consider each other adopted brothers in that one book I still haven't read and I hope he's in Dragons Rising at some point Unagami is my favorite "villain" (no longer a villain) in the whole show he deserves more screentime

like yea the first episode with Ed and Edna in it has Jay avoiding them like the plague but this gets explained very easily when you remember he was bullied for his home life before he became a ninja. It makes a lot more sense why he wouldn't want them around his new friends, assuming they'd react the same way. Also how was he supposed to know literally all the rest of the groups parents were either dead, presumed dead, or had a toxic relationship with their kid lmao

(Cole calling his mom kills me. Cole's mom is dead. I know they probably just didn't think that far ahead when writing the dialogue but it's so funny mans pretended to call his dead mom to get on Jay for not appreciating his parents iconic behavior)

anyways literally every episode Ed and Edna are central to (except like the one in skybound) Jay stops at nothing to protect his parents and it means the absolute world to me he's so much like them!! They raised an inventive little nerd and he will stop at nothing to make sure they're safe and it's. It's SO IMPORTANT TO ME OKAY

I LOVED season 1 and 2 of the crown but found season 3 quite dull and difficult to get through. I'm enjoying season 4 (still havent finished bc I watch with my family and we're rarely all together) but I think that the earlier seasons were a lot better in my opinion

All in all, the writing for the first two seasons were WAY better. My ranking is s2 > s1 > s4 >>>>> s3. In my opinion, season three was kind of terrible.

In the first two seasons each episode’s mini story for the day was actually INTERESTING. Like, I loved where one episode was about the Mountbatten name and then the next was about the Great Smog! But, there was always an overarching plot and it always added up in the end. S1, S2 and S4 all had an overarching plot that worked! S1 was balancing family and the crown. S2 was balancing prime ministers and her husband. S4 was the downfall of Margaret Thatcher and Charles/Diana. S3 LITERALLY HAD NO PLOT! It was just a bunch of stories put together. The finale for season 3 was about the end of Margaret’s marriage! And although, it is an important event in the family’s history the fact that it was the finale episode????

Anyways, Season 3 genuinely just sucks. Season 4 is REALLY good. Yet, it still doesn’t leave as much of an affect on me like the earlier seasons. AND LIKE I KNOW BECAUSE I’VE REWATCHED THE FIRST THREE SEASONS SO MANY TIMES. I’ve only seen the fourth once because I’m too busy and it’s also too early for me to rewatch it. So, maybe my opinion of season 4 will change!

SEASON ONE

101 Wolferton Splash - 10/10 this episodes just sets everything up! we see how happy the marriage is and how loving king george is and we also see the FORSHADOWING!! we see lilibet and phillip making their life thinking they had time when we know they don’t and it’s just :( AN AMAZING PILOT EPISODE WITH AMAZING QUOTES!

102 Hyde Park Corner - 1000/10 this episode needs no explanation. the suspense and DRAMA right before lilibet finds out about her dad ALWAYS gets me!!

103 Windsor - 10/10 I hated this episode the first time I watched it! I didn’t understand the importance of her uncle and I didn’t understand the complexity behind the episode. I was 14 when I saw this episode for the first time! So, mind you I was quite ignorant. but, david basically represents the audience in the show for those who hate the monarchy and call them out on their hypocrisy. BUT DAVID IS A TERRIBLE PERSON! FUCK DAVID! i understand hating the monarchy and for him i know it was personal but the way he talks about his family in the letters UGHUGHGUHGUHGUHGUH this man is evil! there’s also the other story in the episode about the mountbatten name which is so brilliant!

104 Act of God - 15/10 this episode was boring on first watch but I WAS FOURTEEN! this episode took a break from the monarchy and concentrated on a british national horrific event THAT WAS IMPORTANT and i liked how it connected throughout the episode and all that and the CINEMATOGRAPHY OMGGGGG! anyways, something that pisses me off about this episode is that the crown kind of has the same kind of audience as euphoria! they only care about a hot actor or iconic character or the aesthetics AND THAT MAKES ME ANGRY! bc those are the ppl who call this episode the boring fog episode and the latest episode of euphoria a waste of time! they don’t understand the importance of what their watching. an event that killed hundreds by something that could have been avoided bc of science and for euphoria an ongoing pandemic of an ugly world and its affect on ppl not wanting to go on! IM SORRY THIS TURNED INTO A RANT but this episode is important in reminding audiences that disasters can be avoided but also once they happen anything can happen THIS WAS A SAD EPISODE OKAY AND I LOVED VENETIA SCOTT!

105 Smoke and Mirrors - 100/10 THE CORONATION EPISODE! Phillip tries to bring it to the common public and all the fighting between them just makes the coronation even more impactful when we watch it!

106 Gelignite - 8/10 I DESPISED MARGARET IN THE FIRST SEASON i saw her as a spoiled brat who wanted to marry her dad’s assistant! AND ALSO HOW DID SHE NOT REALIZE THERE WAS DEFINITE GROOMING INVOLVED! this episode is generally very good but margaret just pisses me off a lot! however, her not being able to marry peter boresend shouldn’t have been because of his divorcee status but bc he simply was a predator in anyone’s clear eyes IM SORRY IF YOU DISAGREE BUT SHE MET HIM SO YOUNG NO WAY THERE WAS NO GROOMING good episode but pissed off at margaret’s lack of critical thinking besides but I WANT HIMMMMM LIKE I WANT EVERYTHING

107 Scientia Potentia Est - 11/10 hated this when i first watched it! but now one of my favorites! lilibet feels dumb and needs a tutor! prime minister and wannabe prime minister have health problems and keep it from her! lilibet finds out by accident and they all get yelled at! I LOVE WHEN SHE YELLS AT MEN!

108 Pride & Joy - 10/10 this episode is just adds on to the overarching plot of the season: balancing the crown and family. margaret says disrespectful things to ppl who don’t deserve it in place of lilibet while she’s on the commonwealth tour fighting with her husband! then lilibet scorns margaret and we see an ugly papa loved me more argument! absolutely brilliant!

109 Assassins - 1000/10 hated it the first time but now I LOVE THIS EPISODE! it’s the painting and porchey episode and churchill leaving episode. It’s so so so good! i honestly have no words to describe the brilliance of this episode besides the acting done by almost the entire main cast CLAIRE WOW! MATT WOW! STEPHEN (THE PAINTER) WOW! JOHN WOW! HARRIET WOW! when we see the painting getting burned coincided w the downing st dinner GETS ME EVERYTIME I LOVE IT SO SO MUCH!

110 Gloriana - 100/10 the climactic fight between the crown and family! which will lilibet choose?? and the foreshadowing to suez MWAH!

201 Misadventure - 100/10 LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS EPISODE the cutesy lilibet and phillip until it all goes down WOW! and the suez stuff i love it all

202 A Company of Men - 100/10 this is where i think mike’s wife starts snooping or it’s the next episode BUT THIS IS WHERE SOMETHING BEGINS FOR SURE first of all it foreshadows the episode later in the season about philip’s childhood AND MATT’S ACTING!! it’s too good for words!

203 Lisbon - 100/10 i like it when they fight lol that’s the only way i know how to describe why i love it LILIBET WAS EXCITED TO SEE HIM AND SO WAS HE but then mike ruined it by being a disgraceful and dishonest man RUINING EVERYTHING

206 Vergangenheit - 1000/10 one of my favorites! i didn’t know about david’s nazi past so when i watched this episode for the first time i was completely baffled! another episode where she yells at a man!!!! i’m always annoyed in this episode tho by all the talk from the priest about forgiveness bc im like why would u want to forgive david for being a nazi?? but i think it was intentional by the writers to show the importance of understanding forgiveness and the grounds for it! THIS EPISODE IS JUST PERFECT IM ANNOYED BC I DON’T WANT TO FORGIVE HIM

207 Matrimonium - 9/10 this episode is amazing BEFORE you’ve seen season three bc you root for margaret and tony! but, also throughout the episode there’s all that tony and family and his gf and bf stuff that you think is going to lead somewhere but doesn’t??? like what was the point of introducing his mother and his relationships if it was going nowhere and not even mentioned in season 3??? favorite summer activity is probably swimming and watching the sunset, where it's peaceful and it feels like the rest of the world has finally shut up and let you breathe. i do like summer! it's always really humid and hot, so definitely not my favorite season. but i do like the aesthetics and the free time, and getting to see friends outside of school. ooh ok so. there was a little boba tea place right by my old school, and i would go there on friday afternoons with my friends. and we would sit there, and it felt a little like magic, bc we'd just talk and exist. and they always played music, and it felt very coming-of-age-teen-movie esque to have a soundtrack to nostalgia and good memories. so i would go there with friends from my old school because it closed permanently during the pandemic, and that would be amazing to get to go one last time.

Cos intersex omegas help people like me who are intersex (and without genderdysphoria, cos yes we exist me@society) to explore sexuality, genders and ways to not always needing to be seen as trans. I'm cis, I'm intersex and identify as such. I haven't written any a/b/o yet for SH I only write TW fic atm. I can't wait to delve deeper into the wonderful fics that are out there for SH. I didn’t take intersex people into account when I wrote that as I was primarily drawing on my own experiences as a trans person, and like, that’s on me. I didn’t consider that angle at all, and I’m sorry for that. And I’m glad to get this other perspective I didn’t consider.

But like, I’d also like to say, that I think that doesn’t necessarily change what I was saying. Expand it, maybe, but like, not really… change anything? While it’s true that one could expand “you could just make them trans” to “or intersex, or another similar overlapping identity that would apply here where you could talk about that specific thing and actually make them that identity a rather than just making it a made-up fetishy ‘boypussy’ thing” the rest of what I was saying there was still like, applicable.

I mean, for one, a/b/o is still rooted in transphobia, both with the whole “making up new trans identities without acknowledging real trans people at all” thing that pops up a lot, and with making a cis guy with a vagina and zero implications genderwise or anything else, as well as the reinforced gender roles, and so on.

That being said, I made a point to be like, a/b/o isn’t inherently bad and wrong, and you aren’t transphobic for writing or reading it. Even if you’re not trans or intersex (like I said there are associated kinks/tropes one can enjoy without necessarily being into the other parts, I get it), but even so, particularly in the sense that some people do project onto a/b/o, as what you’ve mentioned. It’s true I specifically was talking about trans people—even specifically transmasc people, although I’m certain there are other ways to use the a/b/o universe for other identities—but while it would also apply to groups I didn’t mention, like intersex people, it doesn’t change or invalidate the point.

So like, I get what you’re saying about exploring sexuality/gender via a cis intersex omega, much how I projected on cis male omegas before I was more comfortable writing porn with trans characters (which by the way isn’t invalid! projecting is totally valid and you don’t have to graduate to writing trans or intersex characters like I did—it’s another reason why I do have mixed feelings about a/b/o). Because it’s a more socially acceptable and popular way to explore that kind of thing, and it’s a lot easier to find if you don’t want to write it yourself.

But like, for one, I feel like most people writing ‘boypussy’ a/b/o porn aren’t intersex or trans people exploring their sexuality. It’s cis/non-intersex people who unironically use that word and couldn’t give less of a shit about trans or intersex people, and are using it purely for wank material. It feels kind of fetishy and gross; and that’s not even getting into the other problems I mentioned.

And two, I feel like the ideas “a/b/o is often transphobic, particularly the AUs where an omega is like, all but literally a transmasc person (or an intersex person, as you’ve pointed out) but still treated as a non-intersex cisgender man just with an extra bit Down There for fun, or even treated as a misogynist’s stereotype of a woman in all but name and chest (what with how alpha/omega is often just reframed gender roles)”, and “a/b/o can be a way for an intersex or trans person to project onto and explore their sexuality in socially acceptable ways” and even “a/b/o has some fun kinks/tropes that aren’t inherently bad by themselves and it’s not wrong to enjoy those things”, aren’t like, mutually exclusive.

But again, that doesn’t mean you’re invalid for liking a/b/o or using cisgender intesex omegas to explore that kind of thing. There’s nothing wrong with that. And one could even argue that sure, those fetishy authors are doing it for their own kink reasons, but young intersex or trans people might read that for their own reasons and really enjoy it, and is it really right to say “okay, you can only do this if you’re trans or intersex, you better prove you are before we let you write it”?  Like, no, that sounds weird. But also do I trust most cis, non-intersex people to write it? Also… kind of no…? Although also I have little faith in general, given all the other tropes that aren’t even necessarily transphobic, just shitty.

I don’t know the answer here. Like I said, I have complicated feelings on a/b/o. I feel it isn’t as black and white or as just plain bad as some people say (although they’re allowed their opinions and distaste, of course) but I also don’t think it’s free of any problems.

But hey, that’s just my opinion, and obviously, I’m not intersex myself. I hope I explained myself well enough (I can’t emphasize enough I’m not upset or angry or anything like that, I’m just trying to explain what I was saying, and while I totally welcome this discussion and an alternate perspective I haven’t had on this before, I don’t think what you’re saying necessarily conflicts with what I was saying? You know?), but if I said anything offensive at all please don’t hesitate to let me know.  And hey, if you have any more thoughts, feel free to shoot another ask!

What's Sayara like? From what u said about her school life, she seems pretty similar to me so I'm trying to figure out whether I'll end up relating to her or crushing on her

She’s an experience. Buckle in, because I’m about to write a short essay here... 

Sayara’s a person with Chaotic Neutral instincts and a Lawful Good upbringing. She comes at life from the angle of a constant underdog. She’s an illegitimate child, and a royal one at that, so her mere existence brings down a lot of judgment on her and her father. If she wasn’t so adaptive and genuinely smart, then she would’ve collapsed years ago. She has pretty severe ADHD, which makes her impulsive and forgetful and really sensitive to rejection, and her coping mechanism for that is to push for her goals as hard as she possibly can until she either wins or passes out. 

Sayara’s defining characteristic is that incredible level of focus, which evolved as a response to her chronic forgetfulness and habitual distraction. She has so much sheer force of will that she can brute-force through obstacles on determination alone (and a hell of a lot of hard work). She will fail, she will forget something, she will run out of time and need to cover her ass, and then she will get up and keep trying. If she can’t go over, she’ll go under. If she can’t go under, she’ll go around. If she can’t go around, she’ll go through. If she can’t go through, well, watch her punch a hole or invent a way to be intangible. Or watch her talk someone into opening the door. She’s tenacious as hell. I talk about her focus in terms of brute force, but her brute force doesn’t mean doing one thing until it works, it means that she just will not stop trying. Give her a puzzle and she’ll sit there for hours trying new things, if she can’t solve the Rubik’s cube (which she usually can’t) then she’ll find out how to disassemble it and put it back together right. Once she decides what she wants, you cannot talk her down, you cannot keep her from trying, she will keep pushing and pushing and pushing until either she wins or she physically can’t keep going. This is her greatest strength and one of her greatest downfalls, because she doesn’t know when to quit. She will have respect, she will have power, and she will earn it. 

The definition of “earn” is open-ended. In her own words: It’s not cheating, it’s entrepreneurial studying. 

Because of her birth status, people tend to treat her poorly until she earns their respect, so she’s inclined to think the same should apply to everyone. If you do not earn her respect, you will not get it. If you do not give her respect, she will do everything she can to earn it, and if you still won’t give it then she’ll get pushy and reply in kind. She gets in trouble with authority all the time because she’s always asking why, and if you can’t tell her why, then she won’t listen. She demands to be taken seriously. When she’s right, and she has proof of it, she will give you hell until you believe her. She’s perfectly capable of seeing both sides of an argument, she simply does not care, because even if you have good points she knows she’s right. She gets frustrated if you won’t let her make her case, and she gets frustrated when people discard perfectly good evidence. 

Despite this, she really is optimistic. She firmly believes that if she tries hard enough, then she will be able to get what she wants and she will earn the respect of the people who make fun of her. If she tries hard enough, and puts in the work, and uses the right techniques, then there’s absolutely no reason why she shouldn’t be able to become famous and popular and important. Her whole worldview is built around this belief that there’s a way things Should be, and if life’s not fair then someone needs to fix it. She notices something that’s not fair, and she goes and gets the adults. If they won’t fix it, then she gets frustrated and decides to do it herself. (She’s still mostly fine with things being unfair when it benefits her, but she’ll grow out of it.) It’s a very noblesse-oblige way of looking at things, it’s the responsibility of the people with the power to help the people without it. She wants to be important because she’s constantly desperate for attention and validation, but she’s also been raised to be very aware that leadership is a Job with Responsibilities. She wants the power to fix things, partially because she’s been raised to believe that’s the leader’s job, and partially because she wants to prove that she can. 

She’s generally friendly, and often surprisingly (or willfully) oblivious to the social norms around her. She’s always felt like a social outsider, no matter how hard she tries, so she’s decided that it’s easier to just be the way she is. People tend to like her more that way anyways, she’s more memorable when she’s being the weirdo. She doesn’t have a lot of close friends, so she spends most of her free time in the library reading about literally anything she can find. She knows a ton of random trivia. She gets really excited when people actually want to talk to her, so she gets loud and a little overwhelming, and interrupts a lot. She doesn’t mean to be rude but she sucks at waiting her turn, and when she has something to say, she has to say it now. 

The thing about Sayara, something that I’m specifically doing on a meta level, is that she’s not wrong. She’s almost never wrong about things. When she has an idea, it almost always works in theory. When she takes sides on things, she’s usually right. I think it’s stupid that main characters, especially girls, always have to be Wrong and have their mistakes Corrected by the plot. Those kinds of plots always grated on me, especially when I was Sayara’s age and every adult around me was firmly convinced that I couldn’t possibly know what I was talking about. Sayara doesn’t need to be corrected. She’s right. She knows what she’s doing. 

The problem with Sayara is how she handles righteousness. She’s always right, sure, but she’s also stubborn and unwilling to compromise and occasionally downright cruel. She has trouble with shades of grey, and can’t always understand when others have genuine reasons to disagree with her. She’s been talked down to and looked down upon her entire life, she’s very familiar with judgment, she’s very familiar with feeling stupid, and your usual humility plot will not do anything for her except cause depression and (more) anxiety. Instead of that, Sayara needs to learn how to be kind and helpful and treat people well, and she needs to learn to be less unbelievably selfish. She has all the ingredients of a great leader, but she hasn’t grown into them yet, and she still doesn’t totally understand empathy or social interaction. She’s getting there!
