Tumblr media
Later in the week, you’re lying cozy on the couch, scrolling through Twitter, when you’re suddenly reminded that you and your friends had plans for later today. You switch over to your Messages group chat and shoot off a quick text to put out feelers to see if everyone’s still free.

You knock three times on Jihyo’s door, waiting for her to reply before flinging her door open with a wail. “Jihyo, everyone’s bailing!”
“I saw,” she says sympathetically.
“Only ones going are you, me, and Haechan.” you lament, collapsing onto her bed.
“Well, if that’s the case,” she says thoughtfully, “I’m not going, either.”
“What?!” you exclaim, looking up at her with an incredulous expression.
“You think I want to sit there and third-wheel whatever it is you two have going on?” she chuckles, stroking your hair soothingly. “Take it as an opportunity to do more of… whatever you two call your arrangement.”
“You’re… well, I can’t decide if I want to thank you or hit you with a pillow.” you sigh dejectedly, and she chuckles understandingly.
you [15:30pm] haechan please say you’re going… jihyo just bailed (verbally) and now i’m all alone 😞 haechan [15:32pm] my schedule’s all free for you 😌 you loved “my schedule’s all free for you 😌” you [15:33pm] AND THAT IS HOW TO BE A RELIABLE FRIEND, EVERYONE. TAKE NOTES!!!! you [15:34pm] anyway that concludes this conversation. everyone but haechan is in the dog house until further notice. farewell
You lock your phone and look up at Jihyo with a small smile. “You’re not in the dog house.” you inform her, and she smiles, running her fingers through your hair.
“Thank you for that. Want help picking out your outfit for your little pottery date with Haechan?” she offers, wiggling her eyebrows excitedly.
“It’s not a date,” you stress, sitting up. “It’s two friends hanging out and making pottery together.”
“Okay, do you want help picking out an outfit to look super duper cute for your date that’s totally not a date?” she amends with a sly grin, and you scowl, deciding to hit her with a pillow after all. “Hey!”
“That’s for teasing me.” you huff, setting the pillow back down. “But yes, I would like help.”
“Expecting help after you assaulted me is beyond crazy, by the way.”
“Please?” you plead, giving her your best puppy dog eyes, and she sighs in defeat, closing her laptop and flinging her covers off her legs.
“Fine. Lead the way.”
Tumblr media
“Are you nervous?” you ask as you two walk up to the building your pottery class is in, and Haechan shakes his head with a chuckle.
“Of course not,” he replies confidently. “I’m good with my hands; you should know that.”
“I don’t think this activity requires the exact same skill set as the one you’re talking about, but okay.” you say with an amused expression, and he shrugs.
“I’m a fast learner.”
Tumblr media
As it turns out, Haechan is not, in fact, as fast of a learner as he thought he was.
You giggle to yourself as you watch him struggle to make a decent looking pinch pot. “I thought you were good with your hands?” you tease as you smooth out the thumbprints in your own surprisingly pretty pinch pot, and he frowns in your direction.
“Apparently, my hands’ skills are best applied elsewhere.” he huffs, much to your amusement.
“Evidently,” you remark, smiling to yourself. “Do you want help?” you ask, and he shakes his head.
“No… I’m hoping I have better luck when we start using the wheel.” he answers, and you raise your eyebrows.
“Okay… well, good luck with that.” you say, returning your attention to your work as you diligently make the rim of the bowl even and level.
After some time, you’re all instructed to switch to throwing on the wheel, and you’re surprised to find that it comes naturally to you, your hands sculpting a lovely bowl with a wide mouth.
“Haechan, are you sure you don’t need help?” you offer again as you see him accidentally dig his thumb into his pot too harshly, resulting in an uneven, deep dent going around half of the bowl.
“Maybe a little assistance would be nice,” he admits in defeat, and you smile, turning off your wheel and coming to stand behind him.
“I’m gonna show you how to do it, okay?” you say softly, taking his clay covered hands in your own and guiding them to the clay on his wheel. “Wanna start over?”
“Yeah,” he sighs, pouting, and you nod, moving to sit behind him. You rest your chin on his shoulder as you guide his hands through reverting his misshapen bowl into an even mound of clay.
“Wet your hands a little bit,” you explain, gesturing to the bowl of grayish water beside his wheel. “It’ll help you manipulate the clay better.” He dips his hands in the water, shaking them off slightly before returning his hands to the clay, tentatively placing his hands on either side of the clay.
“Spread it out like this,” you say gently, showing him how to use his thumbs to carefully widen the surface area of the clay. “Keep your palms close like a guide for how wide you want it to get.”
“Mhm,” he hums distractedly, brows furrowed in concentration, and you help him shape the base of the bowl he’s making, forming a sort of stout cylinder of clay.
“Good,” you encourage him, and he cracks a shy smile at the compliment, turning his head slightly to look at you. “Pay attention to what you’re doing.”
He sighs loudly, momentarily attracting the attention of some other students, but he relents, turning his head back to focus on his bowl.
“Next, you’re gonna make a small dent with your thumb in the center of the clay, and we’re gonna slowly drag the dent outwards with our thumbs to deepen and open up the mouth of the bowl.” you say next, and he nods, tongue poking out slightly as he tries to do what you’re asking him to do. “Carefully,” you remind him, guiding his thumbs as he methodically opens up the dent he made, his bowl now looking much better than before.
“Hey, it’s working!” he says excitedly, and you smile fondly, nodding. You hesitate before your next action, but decide to follow through with it anyway, turning your face in towards him to peck him gently on the cheek. He takes his hands off the wheel abruptly, turning his face towards yours as he searches your eyes with curiosity. “You kissed me.”
“I did,” you confirm, wishing he wouldn’t make such a big deal of it.
“What was that for?” he asks curiously, and you give a small shrug.
“A reward for doing a good job? And incentive to keep doing a good job.”
“So… if I make a pretty bowl, I can get another kiss?”
“Perhaps.”
“On the lips?”
“Don’t push it.” you say, rolling your eyes with an amused smile.
“Fine,” he relents, pouting slightly. “Hey, have you seen that movie, Ghost?”
“With Jennifer Love Hewitt?” you ask, and he nods. “I haven’t, but I’m pretty sure I know where you’re going with this.”
“The pottery scene?” he questions, testing you, and you nod with a smile. “Can we?”
You pause, thinking about it, before you nod. “Sure.”
He bounces in his seat excitedly before he refocuses his attention on his bowl, practically vibrating with excitement as your hands close in over his.
Wordlessly, you help him shape his bowl, deepening the inside and lengthening the body. Your hands glide together smoothly and you’re so focused on doing a good job that it takes you ages to realize that Haechan isn’t even looking at the bowl anymore, his gaze now focused entirely on you with a mix of wonder and fascination on his face.
“Please pay attention before you distract me too and we fuck this bowl up.” you say with a small, amused smile, and he shakes his head.
“I think I need more incentive.” he states, and you look at him with a slight roll of your eyes.
“Just say you want me to kiss you again.”
“Okay, I want you to kiss me again.”
“No. Focus on the bowl.”
“What?! You just told me to say I want another kiss.” he complains, frowning.
“I didn’t say I was going to give you one. I just wanted you to be upfront about what you want.”
“I want a kiss,” he says, stubbornness creeping into his voice, and you sigh.
“If I give you a kiss, will you focus?”
“Yes, ma’am.” he agrees, nodding to seal his promise, and you purse your lips thoughtfully as you think it over.
“Okay.” you say finally, and he beams at you before removing his hands from the wheel entirely and turning in his seat to face you. You lean in, Haechan moving with you, and connect your lips in a sweet kiss.
He hums, pleased, and moves to cup your cheek before you grab his wrist and set it down on his lap.
“You have clay all over your hands, and I don’t think that’d look too good on my face.” you murmur against his lips as you two part, and he laughs, the sound surprisingly sheepish for him.
“Sorry, I forgot.” he chuckles, nodding in understanding. “Thanks for the kiss, baby.”
“You’re welcome. You think we can finish the bowl now?”
“I think your kiss gave me enough strength to push through and finish strong.” he remarks with a cheeky grin, and you snort.
“That is so dramatic. You’re lucky you’re cute.” you huff, and he beams at you.
“Sure am.”
Tumblr media
By the time you two make it back to your front door, the sun is starting to set, streaks of orange, gold, and a beautiful shade of rose filtering in through the window in your hallway.
“I had a really fun time today,” Haechan says, looping his pinky around yours and swinging your hands back and forth.
“Me too,” you agree, smiling. “Are you gonna tell me what you painted at the bottom of your bowl now?”
“Nope,” he replies with a grin. When you pout, he coos fondly, mirroring your expression. “You’ll see when they’re finished and we go to pick them up.”
“Fine,” you huff. “Hey, do you… maybe want to come in? Jihyo and Jiwoo are still out.” you ask, nibbling your bottom lip nervously.
“I was hoping you’d say that,” he admits with a sheepish grin, and a relieved smile overtakes your face as you unlock your front door and lead him inside.
Tumblr media
“So, you’re telling me you’re not even the slightest bit curious what a parallel universe might look like for you?” you ask incredulously.
“Oh, I’m definitely curious,” he replies. “I just can’t imagine wanting to live in that reality.”
“Really? What if in your parallel universe you were a hot shot musician?”
“Still no.”
“You’re insane,” you gasp, and he chuckles softly, the look in his eyes incredibly raw and vulnerable, and you find yourself scrambling over your words in an attempt to protect the quivering heart Haechan’s presenting to you in his gaze. “Well—why this universe, hm? Why, out of all the universes you could be a part of, do you want this one?”
“I wouldn’t want to live in a parallel universe,” Haechan says slowly, “if it means I might not meet you.”
Your breath catches in your throat, the gravity of his words weighing heavy in your heart, and now you think you understand the look he was giving you earlier. “Do you mean that?” you ask softly, and he nods, leaning in to brush his lips against your cheek.
“Every word, pretty.” he confirms, and you’re grateful you’re sitting down because you would have visibly swooned otherwise.
“Jeez, Haechan, are you trying to woo me?” you joke softly, and he tilts your chin up with one finger, turning your head to face him.
“Mm, depends,” he sighs, brushing his lips against yours with a hint of a smile. “Is it working?”
“Not gonna lie? Yeah,” you murmur, smiling bashfully when he chuckles.
“Good,” he chuckles, kissing you softly. Like the others, this kiss ensnares your mind and body, but there’s a tenderness, a hesitance you don’t see from Haechan often. He molds his lips with yours slowly and sweetly, chasing after you when you pull back slightly for air before breaking the kiss and nuzzling your nose with his. “Hi,” he says softly, smiling shyly.
“Hi,” you giggle, kissing his nose lightly. He beams at you and leans in for another kiss, his hand gently resting on your knee. As you two kiss, his hand moves up gradually, pushing up the hem of your sundress until it’s bunched up your thigh just before your underwear.
His kisses grow in passion, in need, until he’s greedily kissing you as you run out of air and have to break the kiss with a gasp. “Let me kiss you,” he whines, clutching at your thigh as he leans in again.
“Let me breathe for a second,” you laugh, and he chuckles quietly.
“Sorry. You done breathing yet?” he asks, and you snort, bursting out into laughter. He joins you, tickled by your amusement, and when you manage to control yourselves, he sighs happily. “So—”
“Yes, I’m done breathing.” you say with a small roll of your eyes and a smile, and he grins, leaning in to kiss you again.
“Did I tell you how beautiful you look today?” he wonders, and you shake your head. “I’m an idiot, then,” he continues, “because you look stunning.”
“Oh, yeah?” you ask, and he nods firmly.
“This little white and pink number you have on,” he murmurs, tugging at the strap on your shoulder until it slips off, “is driving me crazy.”
“Is it, now?” you hum, goading him on, and he nods again.
“It matches your cute little bow.” he points out, and you smile, pleased.
“It does,” you confirm, and he smiles before kissing you again. “You know what else it matches?”
“Mm, what, baby?” he mumbles against your lips.
“My underwear.” you answer, and he stills, looking at you with wonder and desire in his eyes.
“You’re joking,” he breathes, and you shake your head, smiling. “Let me see?” It’s phrased like a question, but it’s anything but if the way Haechan is already lifting your dress is any indication. “Please?” he adds almost as an afterthought, and you giggle, allowing him to pull your dress up enough to see your baby pink underwear. “Fuck,” he groans, his head falling into your lap, and you laugh as he presses his face between your legs, quickly maneuvering himself so your thighs are on either side of his body. He presses a loud kiss to the front of your underwear, then another slightly lower, and when his lips graze your clit through the fabric, you jolt, and he smiles. “You liked that?”
“A little,” you fib, and he nods in smug confirmation, leaning back down to press another kiss to the fabric over the seat of your underwear where a damp spot is gradually forming.
“A little?” he echoes skeptically. “This doesn’t feel like a little.” he points out as his lips brush against your dampened underwear.
“Don’t get cocky,” you breathe, tugging on his hair as a warning.
“You make it so hard not to, baby,” he coos, trailing one finger up your slit through the underwear and around your clit in circles as you squirm slightly and keen for his touch. “Look how well you react to me, pretty girl—you expect that not to make my head a little big?”
“Whatever,” you huff, frowning petulantly. “Just stop teasing.”
“What is it you want me to do?” he asks innocently, and you roll your eyes.
“Same thing you wanna do.” you reply, and he raises an eyebrow.
“I want to taste your pretty pussy,” he says slowly, maintaining eye contact the whole while. “Is that what you want?”
“Yes,” you agree instantly, and he smiles. “What now?”
“Say it,” he urges softly, lifting himself up to bring his lips to yours. “I want you to say it.”
“Haechan, please don’t tease me,” you plead, and he shakes his head.
“Wanna know how bad you want it.” he replies, and you sigh loudly.
“I want you to… do that.” you mumble, and he shakes his head with a growing smile.
“Do what?”
“Haechan!”
“Baby, say it and I’ll make your eyes roll back, I swear,” he says seriously. “I just want you to say it.”
“I want you to… go down on me.” you murmur shyly, and he beams, returning his head to between your legs.
“Now was that so hard?” he asks, and you roll your eyes in exasperation.
“Yes, actually.”
“Aw, poor baby,” he teases, his words almost distracting you from the way his fingers tug your underwear aside. “You’ll live,” he assures you before leaning in to kiss you right on the clit. You jolt at the sudden sensation, moving away from him, but he loops his arms around your thighs and pulls you back to his face, tongue stroking against your folds before delving in between them. His nose bumps your clit with every lewd wet glide of his tongue along your core, and your breath catches every time, your body wired with desire and anticipation as he messily but expertly devours you.
“Feels good,” you whine breathlessly, and you can feel him smile against your core.
“I know, baby, you’re so wet,” he purrs, sucking on your clit with a groan and a loud, wet pop as he pulls back. “Am I that good, or do you just like me that much?”
You don’t know what comes over you, especially given that Haechan gave you an easy out, but you moan out, “I like you,” heat warming your cheeks as you realize what you just said.
“Yeah, baby? You like me?” he echoes, pressing two fingers against your entrance. “How much?”
“So much, Haechan, like you so much,” you gasp, wanting nothing more than for him to continue, and he moans in delight before doing just that, fingers pushing into you greedily before he litters kisses all over your inner thighs and drags his tongue in wet stripes up your thigh to your core.
“Like you too, baby, so fucking much,” he grunts, pumping his fingers inside of you as he flicks his tongue over your clit. “Tastes so good, baby, pussy tastes so good—”
“Haechan—”
“Let me make you cum, baby, I wanna make you cum,” he groans, curling his fingers inside of you to fuck into your g-spot. “Please cum for me, please, please, please—” His lips are wrapped around your clit, sucking and kissing and tongue flicking and swirling around the sensitive button, and his throaty pleas for your release send vibrations through your clit, your body electrified with jolts of pleasure.
“Gonna—you’re gonna make me cum, Haechan—” you whimper breathlessly, and he links the fingers of his free hand with yours as he looks up at you, watching in wonder as you start to fall apart. His tongue works against you fervently, lapping up every bit of arousal that gushes from your entrance around his fingers, and your back arches off the bed, your abdomen tensing as your peak hits. Pleasure shoots through you like a dose of adrenaline, your stomach coiling in on itself as the aftershocks of your climax start to appear.
Haechan moves with you every bit of the way, craning his neck upwards to keep licking at your core, desperate for every drop of pleasure he can get from you. Your hips drop to the bed, your body feeling spent as he languidly swirls his tongue around your clit and his fingers inside of you.
“Felt good, baby?” he asks throatily, and you nod with a blissed out smile.
“Felt amazing.” you assure him, and he beams up at you, your cum glistening on his chin.
He crawls up your body to kiss you, quickly deepening the kiss as he reaches to open his pants. You reach your hand inside his boxers when he’s finished, wrapping your hand around his base and starting to stroke him up and down. He groans and lowers his head to kiss down your neck and when he gets to your collarbone, he nips at the thin flesh there, making you hiss in pleasure.
“Need you inside,” you moan, and he nods eagerly, pushing his boxers down and out of the way as his length emerges from its confines.
Without further ado, you bring the head of his shaft to your entrance, pushing it in as far as you can manage, and he whimpers with pleasure, breathing in loudly through his nose.
“Feels good?” you coo against his lips, and he nods vigorously, his eyebrows knitting together.
“Feels so fucking good, baby, you have no idea—your pussy drives me crazy.” he grunts before thrusting in more. “Need more, baby, I need it so bad—” he rasps out, and you nod encouragingly, pulling him closer to you.
“Take it, Haechan, it’s yours,” you assure him, and his eyes roll back into his head in bliss before he’s kissing you again, lips molding with yours feverishly as he thrusts into you until he’s bottomed out fully. “So full,” you moan, and he grins distractedly, brows still furrowed as he moves in and out of you in slow, fluid strokes.
“Love filling my baby up,” he coos as his hips settle into the rhythm he’s set for himself. “Pretty baby’s pussy loves sucking my cock in, doesn’t it?”
“Mm—love it, Haechan, feels so good—”
This time around feels… different. Not bad-different at all, just… intimate. There’s the possessiveness from that night at the hotel in Fire Island, then there’s this, a heady blend of devotion and belonging to each other and you just about lose your mind as his length twitches inside of you.
“Gonna fill you up, baby, gonna make you all mine,” he pants, and you nod with a whimper, reaching for him for another kiss which he reciprocates eagerly. As you kiss him, his length throbs inside of you, pulsing with need, and you can tell he’s close. “Want to cum, baby, but I want you to cum with me.”
You reach between your bodies and start to rub at your clit rapidly, free hand clutching your clothed breast as your whines and cries escalate in volume. His lips find their way to your neck and you just about pass out from all the pleasure, a deep shudder traveling through you when his mouth seeks purchase behind your ear, tongue trailing up and down the small crevice.
Your climaxes come right around the same time; Haechan’s starts first, but yours comes in with all the force of a wildfire, burning through everything in its path. Gasps and moans and the sounds of the sheets rustling are all you can hear as you two ride out your highs, and your eyes screw shut, white stars twinkling and flooding your vision as you rock down onto him to milk your climaxes for all they’re worth.
When you’re both fully depleted of energy, he pulls out of you and lies down beside you, both of you breathing loudly. After a moment of rest, Haechan gets up and heads out of the room, returning shortly after with a damp cloth which he uses to wipe you down.
“Thanks,” you sigh sleepily, and he nods with a smile, cupping your chin and kissing you sweetly.
“It’s getting late,” he sighs. “I should probably get going.”
“Wh—well, why?” you ask with a frown, and he smiles sadly.
“I have a lot of coding to do tomorrow.” he explains, and you nod slowly, carefully thinking over your next words.
“Do you wanna just… spend the night here?” you ask tentatively, and he looks over at you, hope alight in his eyes.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, I mean,” you start to say, stumbling over your words slightly. “I feel like it’s late—”
“So late.” he agrees.
“And Ubers are probably expensive back to your place right now—”
“Don’t even get me started on the surge pricing.”
“Right! So, I mean, financially, it just makes sense for you… to stay… here… with me.” you finish, and he looks you over slowly with a budding grin on his face.
“I think that’s clearly the most economically sound decision.” he agrees, and you smile, relieved.
“Great. Now come back here.” you say, patting the spot next to you, and he obliges eagerly, climbing onto the bed and snuggling up to you. “Y’know, we’ve broken, like, all the rules basically.” you mumble, and he scoffs dismissively.
“Maybe those rules are outdated and stupid.”
“I mean, we did put them in place for a reason,” you sigh, and he lifts his head up to look at you skeptically. “But, I mean, maybe they don’t really apply to our scenario anymore…”
“Exactly.” he replies with a hint of smugness in his tone. “So cuddle me and go to sleep.”
And so you do just that, wondering all the while how Haechan might define your scenario now.
Tumblr media
When you wake up in the morning, Haechan is hugging you to his chest, your legs tangled together. You peek up at him, smiling at his puffy lips slightly parted as he breathes softly.
“Haechan?” you say softly, and his nose wrinkles slightly before it relaxes, the male not stirring. “Haechan,” you hum gently, and he scrunches his eyes closed before he barely opens them to look at you. “Good morning.”
“Morning,” he mumbles sleepily.
“Are you hungry?” you ask, and he breathes in deeply before nodding. “Want me to make, like, pancakes or something?”
“Please?” he rasps, and your core tingles with need at his low voice.
“Okay,” you whisper, moving to untangle yourself from him. He groans in protest, clutching you tighter, and you chuckle lightly. “I can’t make the pancakes from the bed,” you remind him, and he frowns before loosening his grip on you, allowing you to extract yourself from his arms.
You climb out of the bed, grabbing some clothes to wear around the house and going to the bathroom to wash up. When you’re done, you make your way to the kitchen and start setting up to make pancakes, eggs, and bacon as a treat.
You’re letting the pan warm up on the stove as you mix the batter when Haechan emerges from the hallway, sleepily shuffling towards you.
“I have so much work to do today,” he groans, sitting down at the kitchen island and putting his head down.
“Aw, poor Haechan.” you coo sympathetically, and your soft tone is enough to evoke the whininess from him that you knew was waiting to come out.
“I don’t wanna,” he complains, and you nod understandingly.
“I bet.” you sigh, pouring the first pancake into the pan. The sizzle starts slow and builds gradually as the batter cooks, and you turn to face Haechan, walking around the kitchen island and wrapping your arms around his waist from behind and resting your cheek on his back. You feel him relax in your embrace, Haechan turning around to face you so he can hold your waist and press his lips to your forehead.
“You’re the best.” he mumbles against your forehead. He pulls back slightly to look at you, something tender in his eyes that you haven’t seen before to this extent. It thrills you and yet, something in you is holding back, waiting for the bad news to hit.
Sure enough, a moment later, a dopey smile crosses his features and he parts his lips to speak, the words “I l—” barely making it out before he snaps his mouth shut with a look of alarm, provoking you to raise your eyebrows in confusion.
“You l—” you prompt him, and he shakes his head, extracting himself from you.
“I should, um, go get started on my codes for my boss.” he mutters, that same hint of panic weighing on his every action as he starts to walk towards your room, turns back to face you, then shakes his head and finally heads to your room.
“What the hell was that?” you wonder aloud, hurt and confused, but you don’t have much time to deliberate, because he’s entering the kitchen once more, now looking significantly more awake and, more importantly, ready to leave. “Oh, you’re leaving?” you reply, even more confusion swimming in your head.
“Yeah, I, um, I have to get a head start on my work if I don’t want to be up all night,” he mumbles with a chuckle, and the hollowness of it makes your heart ache.
“Haechan, did I do something?” you ask carefully, trying not to sound as wounded as you feel.
“No,” he’s quick—perhaps too quick—to say, shaking his head vehemently. “I just really have to go.” he insists, heading to your front door without a single look back.
When your door shuts, you stand there, contemplating what just happened and what could have gone so wrong that it made Haechan up and leave like that. You flip the pancake in the pan over half-heartedly, observing the golden brown cooked side before your vision clouds with unshed tears.
“Fuck,” you mutter, wiping your eyes. You hear footsteps heading towards the kitchen from what sounds like Jihyo’s room, and sure enough, she steps into the kitchen, regarding you curiously.
“Hey,” she says carefully, watching you with increasing concern as you try and fail not to cry. “You okay?”
“Want pancakes?” you ask, your voice cracking on the last syllable, and she rushes over to you, pulling you into a tight, warm hug as you break down quietly in her arms.
“Hey, hey, hey,” she soothes you, rubbing your back in comforting motions. “What happened?”
You sniffle pathetically as you start to tearfully explain everything that went down, from last night to this very strange morning, and Jihyo listens intently, her brows furrowing in sympathy as your bottom lip trembles when you get to recounting the activities of this morning.
“Wow,” she finally says. “Okay, get dressed. No more sad pancakes. We’re gonna get brunch, my treat, and we’re gonna talk this out until you feel better.” she urges, patting your butt lightly to push you forward.
“Okay,” you say sadly, heading to your room to get dressed.
Tumblr media
“So,” Jihyo says as she stirs her coffee. “How long has this been going on?”
You take a break from listlessly poking at your crepes and think back. “About two weeks,” you answer, and she raises her eyebrows.
“It took two weeks for this whole thing to get this off-track?” she asks, surprised, and you nod. “You definitely have feelings for each other.”
“I mean, I have feelings for him,” you explain. “I don’t know if it’s reciprocated.”
She shoots you a blank look over her coffee mug as she takes a tentative sip. “My love?”
“Hm?”
“You know I love you, right?”
You sigh. “What is it?”
“You sound like an idiot.”
“Hey!”
“You do! You two made rules, he broke virtually every last one of them, and you think he doesn’t have feelings for you?” she exclaims in disbelief.
“Well, he said he wanted it to be casual.” you defend yourself petulantly, and she rolls her eyes.
“Is it casual now?”
“Well, no…”
“And whose fault is that?”
“...Mine?” you ask, and she tsks in disapproval.
“No. Well, slightly, because you allowed it, but Haechan is the one who made things complicated! Sure, he said he wanted it to be casual, but he’s being anything but. He’s walking around acting like your straight-up boyfriend, and you can’t tell if he likes you or not?” she says incredulously, and you pause, thinking over her words.
“Well, then, why would he say he wanted to keep things casual?” you huff, frowning.
“One of two reasons: he might have thought you weren’t interested in dating him and just wanted to be with you in any way he can get.” she explains, and you nod thoughtfully.
“And the other reason?”
“Well, sometimes guys say they don’t want anything serious so they can use it as an excuse to fool around with other girls.” she says honestly, and you blink several times before speaking next.
“You think he’s fooling around with other girls?” you ask worriedly, and she stares at you blankly.
“That should not have been the only takeaway you got from what I just said.”
“Oh, sorry.” you mumble, sipping at your iced coffee.
“Look, can I be honest with you?” Jihyo asks, continuing on before you can answer to say, “Great; I feel like you already liked him before this happened, he definitely liked you too, and now you’re conflicted because of feelings that were present before this was set in motion.”
You think over her words once more before saying, “So, you don’t think he’s fucking around with other girls?”
Sighing loudly, Jihyo pinches the bridge of her nose. “You are about as stubborn as a mule, you know that?”
“Yes,” you reply with a doleful look. “It’s one of my specialties.”
“Does Jiwoo know about all of this?” she asks, and you shake your head.
“I haven’t told her anything, so I don’t think so.” you sigh, and she screws her face up in thought.
“Maybe we should consult her and see what she thinks.” she suggests helpfully, and you shrug. “Now, I’m not sure if you know this, but the crepes are supposed to make you feel better… but you have to actually eat them to feel the benefits.”
You smile sheepishly and separate a forkful, placing the now-room temperature food in your mouth and chewing. A small smile starts to grow on your face, and she smiles, pleased.
“Now, I want you to think about this carefully; like, do you really want to do this?” Jihyo asks, and you shrug.
“I want things to stay the way they were before this morning.” you lament.
Jihyo raises an eyebrow. “You don’t want to be his girlfriend?”
“Oh! Oh, I do. I very much do, yes.” you say, nodding emphatically, and she smiles fondly.
“Then I think we should see what Jiwoo says. She’ll probably agree with me because, well… I’m right.”
“Says you,” you mumble under your breath, and she raises a challenging eyebrow.
“What was that?”
“Nothing.”
“Thought so.”
Tumblr media
“I think you always liked him,” Jiwoo says. “Like, I could tell from a mile away; anyone could tell. It’s in the way you guys look at each other.”
“Wait, you guys really think he likes me back?” you ask, hopeful and bewildered.
“Yes, dummy, he likes you back.” Jiwoo says with a roll of her eyes.
“Well… that’s not enough!” you exclaim, and Jihyo and Jiwoo groan, exasperated. “I need him to say it!”
As if the heavens were listening, your phone lights up with an incoming call notification from none other than Haechan. “Oh, shit,” you mumble, staring at it blankly.
“Um, pick up?” Jihyo stresses, whacking your arm. “Girl, pick up!”
You snatch the phone up from the bed and answer it, calling, “Hello?” into the phone and waiting with bated breath.
“Speaker!” Jiwoo mouths, and Jihyo nods vigorously in agreement.
You put it on speaker in time for Haechan’s voice to filter through the phone. “Hey, are you home?”
“Yes, I am,” you answer casually, as if your last interaction didn’t literally reduce you to tears.
“Are Jihyo or Jiwoo home?” he asks, and all of you make the same confused expression at each other, looking at the phone in bewilderment.
“Say no!” Jihyo whispers, and you wave her off.
“They’re home,” you answer, and she throws her hands up in the air in exasperation. “Why?”
“Can you come outside for a second? I need to ask you something.”
“Y’know, Haechan, phone calls were invented so people could ask other people things.”
“I know, but I want to see you,” he stresses hopefully, and you look between Jihyo and Jiwoo, both of whom are nodding vigorously. “Please?”
“Okay,” you agree, and Jiwoo collapses on her back, Jihyo heaving a relieved sigh. “I’ll be down in a minute.”
“Great,” he says, abruptly ending the call.
“What if he wants to cut things off?” you worry aloud, and Jihyo grabs your shoulders, shaking them firmly.
“He’s not gonna cut things off. You’ll never know what he wants to do if you don’t go down there and talk to him.” she says sternly, and you blink at her petulantly.
“Fine,” you lament, getting up from the bed and trudging to the front door.
When you get downstairs, you can see Haechan waiting through the glass doors of your lobby entrance, and he perks up visibly when he sees you, a good indicator.
You step outside and look at Haechan, whose smile widens when you’re standing in front of him.
“Hi,” you say carefully, and his smile turns sheepish.
“Hi,” he says, and it dawns on you that he’s holding his hands behind his back.
“What are you hiding?” you ask curiously, and he smiles wider, presenting you with something wrapped in grayish brown craft paper. You take it and hold onto it, but Haechan frowns, making you let out a noise of confusion.
“Open it!” he urges, and you can’t help but smile at his eagerness, obliging and opening the wrapping. There, in your hands, is the bowl you helped Haechan make; it’s been lightly glazed with your favorite shade of pink, and it looks prettier than it did when you two made it, somehow.
“Oh! Thank you,” you say with a smile, and he gestures for you to continue, making you let out yet another confused sound.
“Look at the bottom of the bowl.” he says excitedly, and you do just that, peering inside to see—
“Oh,” you gasp softly.
There, in Haechan’s handwriting, are the words “Be Mine?”
“That’s why I wouldn’t let you see when I was done painting.” he says, bashful now, and you smile widely, looking up at him with bright eyes. “Sorry I’ve been so weird and quiet today; I already liked you, but it hit me last night that I really like you, and this morning I realized that I might even love you.”
“Oh?” you say, smiling so widely it hurts.
“Yeah,” he confirms, nodding proudly. “I went to the pottery place and paid the instructor to bake mine early so I could bring it to you.”
“Oh, Haechan,” you say softly, your heart swelling in your chest until you fear it might burst.
“I know I said I wasn’t ready for a relationship, but I’m willing to try it if it means I get to be with you—properly this time.” he finishes, and you look up from the bowl to see a hopeful look on his face.
“Oh, thank God,” you sigh, relieved, and Haechan visibly relaxes, a wide smile on his face. “I’ve liked you for ages, actually—like, long before we started this whole arrangement.”
“Me too,” he echoes shyly, and you step closer, throwing your arms around his neck for a tight hug. He wraps his arms around your waist and stays there, holding you tightly. You turn your face inwards to kiss him on the cheek, only for Haechan to look at you like you just slapped him in the face.
“What’s wrong?” you ask, confused, and he huffs petulantly.
“I just professed my undying love for you and all I get is a kiss on the cheek?” he squawks, affronted, and you snicker.
“‘Undying love’ is a little crazy, Haechan,” you point out, and he glowers at you.
“Yeah, well, maybe I’m a little crazy.” he counters, and you feign surprise.
“Wow… no way… I had no idea… I am just so shocked.” you drawl, and he narrows his eyes.
“Ha, ha, ha. Stop mocking me and put that mouth to better use,” he huffs, pulling you into him for a kiss. It’s deep and slow, Haechan kissing you like he has all the time in the world.
You hear familiar voices cheering, and you look around before looking up to see Jihyo and Jiwoo sticking their heads out of your window, watching you two with smiles on their faces.
“Didn’t know your roommates and our friends were Peeping Toms,” he jokes, and you giggle.
“Less talking, more kissing!” Jiwoo calls out.
“Mind your business, perverts!” you splutter indignantly.
“No, no, no, why don’t we do what the perverts say?” Haechan suggests with a grin, and kisses you before you can respond, breathing in deeply as he wraps his arms around you tighter.
As you stand on the street, kissing Haechan in front of your best friends, all you can do is smile.
Tumblr media
“I don’t think I can eat anymore,” Jaemin groans, rubbing his stomach as you all trudge down the boardwalk. “When they call it a food truck crawl, they’re not kidding; I feel like I should be on my hands and knees right now.”
“You’re weak,” Renjun comments casually. “I’m fine.”
“No, but I really can’t.” Jaemin protests, and Jihyo chuckles. “What’s so funny?”
“You said that three trucks ago.” she points out, and Jaemin frowns.
“Yeah, but I feel like I’m about to burst—” Jaemin bemoans before stopping short. When you all follow his gaze to a fried dough truck, you burst out laughing.
“What was that about you being about to burst?” you tease, and Jaemin makes a conflicted face, rubbing his stomach.
“Well… maybe I can make room for something sweet…” he mumbles, and you nod in understanding.
“You definitely can,” you encourage him, and he smiles before leading the way to the food truck.
“You’re a bad influence,” Mark laughs, and you shrug.
“He wanted it! I just let him know he could probably fit it in his stomach.”
“Yeah, leave my girl alone.” Haechan gripes, looping his arm around your waist and tugging you into his side.
“Yeah, leave his girl alone.” you huff, scrunching your nose at Mark, who rolls his eyes.
“You’re definitely more insufferable together,” he comments, and you smile, shrugging.
“Too bad.”
“Yeah, deal with it.” Haechan chuckles, kissing you on the cheek.
“Petition to make them break up?” Renjun proposes, and Jihyo reaches over to swat his arm. “Hey!”
“Hey, yourself,” she counters. “I think they’re cute.”
“Why, thank you, Jihyo, my dear friend.” you sigh happily, resting your head on Haechan’s shoulder.
You’re finally at the food truck, and after the attendant takes your order, Haechan steps forward, tapping his phone to the card reader when it prompts him to pay.
“Haechan, baby, you’ve paid for all my food; the pretzel bits, the funnel cake, the loaded hot dogs, the ice cream—”
“I know—”
“The mozzarella sticks—”
“I want to!”
“The tater tots—”
“Baby.”
“And now the fried dough!” you finish off as if he’d never spoken, and he smiles fondly, cupping your face in his hands.
“You’re my girl, right?”
“Of course,” you reply, the words slightly distorted due to his hold on your face.
“That’s right. You’re my girl, so I got you.” he answers simply, and you feel heat rushing to your face.
“Fuck, why was that attractive?” you mumble to yourself, and he chuckles, leaning in to press a sweet kiss to your lips.
“I’m glad you like it, because I’m not stopping any time soon.” he informs you. “Got it?”
“Got it.” you reply, and he nods in satisfaction.
“Good.” he says, releasing your face and taking your hand. His thumb strokes over the back of your hand, and you smile fondly, happier than ever.
“Hey, Haechan, if I bat my eyes all cute like her, can I get free food, too?” Renjun asks, and Haechan snorts.
“Good luck looking as good as she does when she does it.”
“Did you just call me ugly?!” Renjun splutters, and Haechan raises his hands defensively, your linked hand coming up with his involuntarily.
“No one said that. I just said you’re not gonna look as good to me as she does when she does it.” he replies calmly, and Renjun narrows his eyes at him.
“Tread carefully, Lee Haechan.” Renjun warns him.
Haechan rolls his eyes. “I’m so scared.”
“I’ll deglove you!” Renjun threatens, and you raise an eyebrow.
“I’ll castrate you if you even think about it for too long.” you tell him.
Renjun frowns. “I hate when they’re on the same side, and now they’re gonna be on the same side forever!”
He stomps off to another food truck in the distance, and your friends, after receiving their orders, follow after him. You and Haechan fall to the back of the group, and Haechan hums thoughtfully, prompting you to turn your head to look at him.
“What is it?”
“I like the sound of that.” he muses, and you make a face.
“Surely we’re not talking about the castrating and degloving.”
“We most certainly are not.” Haechan assures you, and you relax. “The ‘forever’ part.” You promptly inhale so sharply that you choke on the bite of fried dough in your mouth, and Haechan rubs your back soothingly as you cough and hack and gasp for air. “You alright, baby?”
“I’m good,” you pant, wiping a stray tear from your eye. “Before I almost died just now, I was going to say that… I like the sound of ‘forever’ too.”
“With me?” he asks hopefully, and you roll your eyes.
“No, with Jeno.”
He narrows his eyes at you. “Not funny.”
“Wasn’t laughing. Yes, with you, dummy.”
“I may be a dummy, but I’m your dummy. And you’re stuck with me. Forever.” he draws out the last word with a bright grin.
And as you lean in to kiss him, you murmur, “I definitely can live with that.”

Overprotective bat
Tumblr media
Azriel x pregnant!reader
Summary: You really need to make your mate understand that you need some alone time...
Warning: Talk of pregnancy
Word count: 807
Tumblr media
You stroke your now slightly swollen womb as you walk between the tall rows of bookshelves of the Town House, the place you and Azriel now call home. Rhysand and Feyre gifted you this magnificent residence as a mating ceremony present, since the both of them were now spending most of their time at the River House since the birth of Nyx anyway. You halt and smile in contentment when you finally pick up the book you were looking for. You spin around, and almost suffer from a heart attack when you face your mate, who had most certainly been following you for… Mother knows how long.
“Az… you scared me.” You sigh as you regain your calm, placing a hand on your chest. He smiles and places both his large hands on your small baby bump. He stares into your eyes and smiles, apologetically. “Sorry… I thought you had heard me.” You chuckle slightly and slowly make your way out of your personal library, heading for the long velvet couch. It wasn’t surprising that you hadn’t heard your mate following you, he always accidentally managed to startle you, thanks to his skills as a spymaster.
You lay your back against the armrest, comfortably settling down on the couch. Your mate finds his way between your legs, laying his cheek where their babe was growing up, his hands back on your stomach as if they were pulled by some kind of magnetic force. You start reading, trying to concentrate through your mate whispering sweet nothings to their unborn child. “Az… weren’t you… supposed to meet Cassian or something tonight?” You start off, trying to sound… polite and unbothered by his permanent presence since the beginning of your pregnancy.
It’s not that it bothered you, not really. In fact, you always enjoyed your mate’s presence, you always would but… since the past few months, you barely have been able to enjoy some alone time out of when you were in the bathroom. Even then, he would have to check up on you to make sure you weren’t struggling with morning sickness. You just… missed having some tranquility. You already had to spend every minute of your existence with a baby growing inside of you, at least until its birth, and with Az constantly glued to you… It sometimes felt overwhelming.
“I thought you didn’t feel like going?” “Well… I thought you could go without me, you know.” He lifts his head from your stomach and looks up at you, brows furrowed in confusion. “By myself?” He asks as if I was talking to him in a foreign language he couldn’t seem to decode.
You smile gently, and stroke his cheek. “Yeah, by yourself. It would… maybe it would do you some good to have some boys time. It’s been a while, I’m sure Cassian would agree on that.” “Mh. Cass can always wait, my pregnant woman needs me… baby too.” He places a kiss on your stomach, and gets back to his previous position.
You sigh and bite your lip. “Az… I meant that maybe it would do me some good to just… breathe a little… for more than five minutes in the bathroom..?” I talked gently, stroking his hair. His eyes shot back up to me in an unreadable expression… “Yeah?” “Yeah…” You answer him back, giving him a soft apologetic grin.
He pauses, thinking, then gets up from the couch. He bends over, placing a hand beside your face on the armrest before kissing your lips softly, a small grin plastered on his delicious lips. “Alright, then. I’ll be back in an hour or two. You’ll both stay all safe, warm, and cozy until I get back to cuddle you… right?” Azriel knew and understood that you needed some alone time. You always have needed time away from everyone from time to time, and he realized that his protective Illyrian instincts had probably made it hard for you to have it.
You smile and give him another peck before he leans away. “Alright, we’ll both wait for you and stay really safe in the warmth of our home until you get back…” He chuckles slightly, before winnowing away to meet Cassian, who would have to understand that he would need to get back in not more than two hours at max.
You sigh in relief, drowning in the love and passion of your book for the following hours. You were glad and extremely grateful to have a mate, a partner who listens, understands, and fulfills your every need. Even if he sometimes needed to compromise on his own desires. You giggle as you gently poke at the shadow that stayed, enveloping the top of your belly, and can’t help but think of how amazing your mate already was as a father to your child…

a nonsense christmas / tyler owens x reader
summary: an unexpected snowstorm traps tyler owens with his workplace nemesis over the holidays. bonus points: there was only one bed.
content warnings: f!reader, allusions to smut
word count: 9k
Tumblr media
author’s note: happy holidays! 🎄🎊🤶🏻🕎 i hope they were merry and bright and as stress-free as possible. thank you so much for supporting my three little fics. this is unedited, but i wanted to post it before i went out of town as a gift made specially for the glen girlies - i wrote it to bring you some december cheer. see you next year!
“You have got to be kidding me.”
Over the span of the last twelve hours you’d lost count of the number of times you’d muttered that sentence underneath your breath.
First, it was the office building in New York, where Tyler had the appointment right after yours at a ritzy funding agency. Then it was the airport, where you’d both flown standby and had a Wild West confrontation over the last seat on the plane, only for another passenger to volunteer their place in exchange for a travel voucher. (“It’s not like I’m in a rush to see my family, anyway.”) The woman manning the desk had given you both a look that said, “See, this is how an adult behaves,” which you thought was rich when the guy was clearly trying to cheat his way out of a Christmas dinner. Then, Tyler got assigned the seat behind you on the plane, and in keeping with his infuriating personality, spent the entire flight kicking your seat - or, I’m sorry, just trying to stretch his legs.
After landing, you’d raced to the same rental car company. The woman at this desk kept pointing out that the weather seemed dire and that a snowstorm might hit at any moment, to which you assured her that you weren't headed far—a lie—and glared at Tyler’s back before shuffling into the parking lot with your borrowed keys, hoping his heater would break or that an ex-girlfriend had broken into his house during his absence and left coal in his stocking.
It turned out that the woman at Enterprise was right. The weather was dire; your visibility was shot to hell after the first forty miles, leaving you to squint through the flurry-turned-blizzard, your knuckles white on the steering wheel as you inched forward in your seat, as though you could magically see through the storm if only you pressed your nose just so to the windshield.
After a while you gave up and started to admit that unless you wanted to turn into a human Popsicle, you might need a Plan B. You let out a weary sigh, listening to the weather report on the radio—“If you're safe and cozy at home, it's gonna be a white Christmas, folks, but if you're out on the road, I suggest taking cover and waiting it out for Santa Claus to slide down the chimney.”
You scanned the passing road signs for fast food restaurants, gas stations, and rest stops, even took a few exits just to be hit with NO VACANCY in bright neon reds, making mental calculations for the rest of your trip.
Home was still a long way off: three hours, after dark. Normally you’d power through with an extra-large coffee, but it was snowing, and your window to remain safely on the road was closing with every passing minute.
Dammit.
After the fourth failed attempt at finding lodgings, you sat in the driver’s seat with the heater on and called your sister.
She answered after a few rings. In the background you heard your nephew and nieces screaming their heads off in that kid way. God, you loved those little rugrats but they were undoubtedly a nightmare—you imagined Margo plugging up one of her ears and waving at them to be quiet. Of course, to no avail.
“Where are you?” she demanded, the accusation sharp in her voice. You knew to expect it, so instead of answering, “Well, hello to you too, I can’t control the weather, in case you haven’t noticed,” you went with a plain response, facts only.
“Somewhere in the middle of Benburg.”
“Where?”
“Exactly.”
You heard her sigh. “The snow’s getting pretty bad.”
“No shit.”
“Hey, don't ‘no shit’ me! I told you traveling right before Christmas Eve was going to be a nightmare.”
“And I told you I had no choice.”
She paused. There was whispering on the other end, an almost-silence that put your body on high alert until, finally, she said, “Mom wants to talk to you.”
“Margo, no!”
Your protests fell on deaf ears. The phone was jostled as your mother took it and began to speak.
“Honey, are you almost here?”
Covering your face with your hands, you kept your voice light, knowing she’d be able to detect even the smallest hint of frustration, and then you’d have to put up with another round of “why on earth did you take a meeting in New York right before the holidays?”
“No, mom, I’ve still got a-ways to go.”
You pictured her narrowing her eyes, maybe placing a hand on her cocked hip.
“How long a-ways?”
“Less than two hours,” you lied.
It was absolutely more than two hours.
A pause. “Well, I guess that's okay.”
“I’m glad you think so.” Through gritted teeth and the voice of a demented schoolteacher, you added, “Mom, can you put Margo back on the phone now, please?”
“She wants to talk to you,” you heard her saying from a distance.
After some more jostling, you felt the caller change as you merged back onto the highway and left the motel behind.
“Marg, can you tell her to cut me some slack, please? I’m doing my best.”
“Ha!”
You glared at the console, hoping she could feel it over the phone.
“Gee, thanks! So much for the Christmas spirit!”
“Listen, when you have three kids, two dogs, a husband, all of your in-laws, your parents, and your stepmom breathing down your neck, I’ll have a little more sympathy.”
“Fine… But I promise I’m not leaving you in the lurch on purpose. My flight from New York got delayed, I had some asshole kicking me in the kidneys the whole time, and I can barely see a yard in front of me because of this storm—it’s not exactly a walk in the park for me either.”
No cigar; it was you who felt her glare over the phone this time. Clearly, her issues outweighed all of yours on this occasion, and knowing her sister-in-law, you were inclined to agree.
You added: “I’ll make it up to you.”
“You’d better.”
The wipers on your rented car worked overtime to clear your windshield. You were about to end the call to focus on driving when, up ahead, you saw the red and blue lights of a highway patrol vehicle stopping traffic.
“Oh shit,” you muttered under your breath.
“What?”
“The road is closed.”
“The whole road?”
“Yeah, Marg, the whole road.” She would've argued with you over your tone, except you cut her off with “Hold on—I’m being flagged down.”
A middle-aged man with a mustache came over to your car. He was wearing a fuzzy hat and holding a flashlight now that the purpling sky was fading to black. Without being asked, you lowered your window and shivered at the stream of icy wind that cut through the artificial heat.
“Evening, officer.”
“Good evening. Where’re you headed?”
“Sayre or roundabouts.”
“Rough night to be doing so. This road is no good, you're gonna have to turn around, find a place to wait it out for the night.”
Your heart sank. You knew Margo was listening to everything. By the time you made it home, your ledger would have a massive list in the red which she’d make you pay off somehow—by doing the dishes, playing horse with the kids, or worse, entertaining Kayleen, who would say as she always did that you really ought think about having children soon unless you wanted to get used to “a self-absorbed lifestyle.”
God forbid.
“Do you know anywhere that might have a last-minute vacancy?” you asked the officer, whose shiny name tag read HARRIS.
He scratched behind his ear, twisting his mouth in thought.
“Try the Sunnyside Inn. Back this way to Fairmont, right after the exit, left on Vail.”
“Thank you.”
“Merry Christmas.”
“Right. Merry Christmas.”
You put your window back up.
“Did you catch that?”
“Sounds like you're grounded,” said Margo. Her eyebrow must be arched because the judgment could be heard loud and clear—if you hadn’t gone to New York…
Well, there was nothing you could do about it now.
“It’s meant to clear up by morning. I’ll still be there long before Christmas.”
“You’d better be.” She sighed.
Your niece Haley was screaming out the words to “The Twelve Days of Christmas” like a possessed banshee and giggling at what she knew must be an ear-splitting performance. You didn't know whether to be more horrified or amused; you remembered doing something similar when you were a child, back when you didn't have to worry about spreadsheets and grants and the trials and tribulations of flying Economy during the worst time of the year.
Margo must be thinking the same. Her tone sounded a little more sympathetic when she said, “Drive safe, and let me know when you find somewhere to spend the night.”
“I will. Love you.”
“Love you, too. Don’t get murdered.”
“I’ll try.”
“Don’t try—do. Someone’s got to help me defuse the tension during Christmas dinner.”
“Me? Defuse tension?”
“Good point.”
After hanging up, you followed Officer Harris’s directions to the Sunnyside Inn. Wherever it was in relation to the highway, there weren’t any signs you could see from the road and it reminded you of a famous, albeit fictional, location where people did go to end up murdered.
You only hoped whoever was on duty at the check-in desk had zero resemblance to Norman Bates or you’d have no choice but to sleep in your car.
Ten minutes later, you arrived at a quaint little building like something out of a Hallmark movie with six parking spaces and no neon out front. The facade was fake stone, the ornamental bushes lining the circular drive covered in a postcard layer of fresh snow. The wooden sign read VACANCY and had an empty slot where the NO might go, which gave you the tiniest sliver of hope, tempered by the thought that a place like this might not pay the utmost attention to a detail like that, especially in the middle of a storm. All in all, it was the sort of place you stayed at when you had no choice, being off the beaten track, but it looked as well maintained as it could be given its age, which you dated back to the 70s because of its slanted roof.
You parked and got your suitcase out of the trunk, the wheels clattering and then coming to an abrupt stop when you saw a figure across the way doing the same with his black carry-on.
“You have got to be kidding me,” you called out.
Tyler Owens grinned. Even from here you could see the dimple on his cheek.
“Road closed?” he asked, still walking towards the entrance. You did the same, glaring as you tried to keep pace with him—no, tried to beat him to the front door.
“You know it is,” you answered, eyes narrowed, dashing the rest of the way just for his hand to reach the metal pull bar first. Damn his longer limbs.
With a smile, he opened the door and waved you through like a Manhattan doorman.
“Ladies first.”
“Wow, I didn't think you were remotely a gentleman.”
“What gave you that impression?”
You brushed past him into the heated lobby, pausing long enough for him to close the door so you could send him a pointed look.
“Oh, I don’t know… maybe your knee on my back?” you enunciated.
“I told you—that was an honest mistake.”
“Right.”
The Sunnyside had a single check-in desk that looked more like the host’s stand at your favorite restaurant than the counter at the cheapest Marriott, but it was decked in cute bells and garlands and baubles that glittered in the light. Behind it stood a woman around your age with straight, shoulder-length hair partially covered by a Santa hat.
As soon as she saw you walking in, she pushed the red strands out of her face and cleared her throat visibly before launching into a practiced spiel.
“Welcome to the Sunnyside Inn, where every day is sunny!”
She was smiling from ear to ear. The effect was a little like that of the creepy twins in The Shining and bah, humbug, were you not in the mood.
“Can I have a room for the night, please?”
You were made to feel guilty by the sudden fall of her face. But clearly Carol—you had to do a double take. Was her name really Carol? At-Christmastime Carol?—had gone to one hell of a customer service training program. Instead of letting your frown turn her smile upside down, she tacked it on with impressively greater fervor. The bell at the end of her hat rattled as she cleared her throat again.
“You’re in luck! We have one vacant room left in the entire hotel—continental breakfast included!”
“I’m sorry,” Tyler butted in, “did you say only one room?”
“Yes, er…” She looked between you, biting her glossed lip. “Is that a problem?”
“We’re not together,” you said, refusing to look in Tyler’s direction.
Carol blushed. She was so pale that you thought it might be her actual blood you were seeing rising to her face and turning a shade of Veruca Salt. Or was it Violet Beauregarde?
“Oh!” she exclaimed. “I thought—well… you arrived together.”
“We arrived separately.”
“That’s not what it looked like.”
She blinked owlishly. Your own face was heating up as you felt Tyler putting his hand on his hip and sending you a shit-eating grin. You wouldn’t hear the end of this. You could practically hear him bringing it up at a later date, saying, “You’d be so lucky.”
You felt your jaw lock and your dentist cry. Lips together, teeth apart! She’d obviously never met anyone like Tyler Owens before.
“I can assure you, that's what it is,” you said in a steel-laced voice.
Carol might be an A+ at the customer service thing, but you were an A+ at staring people down until they begged for mercy. The only person you knew who was better at it was Margo, and the only person immune to it—though it drove you crazy to no end—was standing next to you, all six feet of him, in a jacket with snow at the shoulders that had quickly melted and rolled off the fabric. Shoulders… his annoyingly broad shoulders, which you’d had occasion to see with more frequency than you would’ve liked, dressed in what Samantha, one of your colleagues, described as his “slutty little white tees.”
It wasn’t enough for him to be a perpetual thorn in your side, he had to be attractive too, thereby proving that there was no God or that, Whoever they were, they must have an evil sense of humor.
“I’m so sorry.” Carol hung her head. Her hat drooped, the glitter-paper trimming on her suit drooped—there was a high chance that she was actually an elf and you’d just worked your way onto Santa’s Naughty list. Come midnight, you’d be visited by the ghosts of all your ex-lovers and Sarah DeAngelo, your high school nemesis.
Meanwhile, Tyler swooped in like the big hero.
“No worries, I’ll just stay at the next place,” he said. “What is the next place?”
“That would be the Cozy Roadside! But they're all booked up, I’m afraid… It's the storm, you see. Everyone’s trying to hunker down for the night.”
“Right…”
Well, he was taking it better than you’d have done—though it was clear he wasn’t jumping for joy at the thought of turning around and trying his luck in the growing whiteout.
And that was if there weren't more road closures along the way.
“Are you sure you're not together? I’m just saying… it is the holidays.” Carol’s little damn bell jingled again. Could you be charged with assault if you snatched it off her head? you wondered.
You pinned her with a stare and she had the temerity to flinch like a little cartoon dormouse.
“Meaning…?”
“Meaning, it's a time to let bygones be bygones! You make such a lovely couple…” Her laugh was high-pitched, nervous.
You might have ruffled like an angry bird of prey. “We are not—”
“Absolutely not,” said Tyler.
“‘Absolutely’?”
It was the closest you’d ever come to seeing Tyler crack under the force of your EF5 stare. He looked sheepish, his hands in his pockets, giving a little hunkered down shrug that might have been read as boyish and kind of adorable to someone else.
“Listen”—turning to Carol before you could rip him to shreds—“do you know of anywhere I could stay until the roads open up again?”
“I’m sorry, no.”
“What about the lobby?”
“I would if it were up to me, but it's against hotel policy. I could get a write-up.”
This hotel has a policy? You stopped yourself from blurting out the words. There was still a chance this Strawberry Shortcake of a person was one of Santa’s little helpers and, if you kept up being a meanie, you’d end up going to the Bad Place—the Bad Place being the seat next to Margo’s sister-in-law at dinner.
You sighed. “Does my room have a couch?”
“It has a chair,” Carol offered.
You exhaled through your nostrils like an angry bull—would the creature metaphors ever cease? Turning to Tyler, you held up a finger and said, “You’re gonna owe me big time,” and fished your wallet out of your bag.
You slammed your card onto the stand and waited for Carol to check you in. She took out a book from a little cubby and took down your name and ID number, then fiddled with one of those old-school credit card imprinters, the ones you had to use actual elbow grease to use.
“I can have extra linens sent up! And I’ll give you our Friends and Family rate—in honor of the season!”
You have got to be kidding me…
Tyler put his hand on your elbow, stopping your words.
“Thank you, Carol, you've been a real gem.”
Carol flushed again, preening under Tyler’s cowboy charm. I’m gonna be sick, you thought, grabbing your suitcase by the handle and wheeling towards the stairs before you could say anything else.
Your case banged against each carpet-covered step. Tyler was behind you, carrying his without sounds of trouble. You supposed that was a benefit to having arms the size of tree trunks, but you’d rather drop dead on this commercial grade floor than ask him for help.
To drown out the sound of the obvious weakness in your upper half, you adopted a high-pitched baby voice that was nothing like Tyler’s and said, “‘You’ve been a gem, Carol,’” just to mock him.
From Tyler came a huffed-out laugh. “Why, ’re you jealous?”
“As if. I hope your chair has bedbugs,” you called over your shoulder, arriving at the landing and looking for room 227. You unlocked the door without waiting, tossing your bag and coat onto the bed to stake your claim.
In the open doorway, Tyler paused to stare at the promised bit of furniture.
“Oh,” came out of his throat. “When she said chair, I thought she meant…”
You followed his gaze. Like Tyler, you’d pictured a dusty old recliner when Carol guilted you into sharing a room with him. The relic actually taking up space across from the queen-sized bed was a chair that might have come out of your high school principal’s office. The seat was covered in a similar material to the carpet, deep purple, not falling apart at the seams, but still just a chair.
Not in your wildest dreams would you think of making an enemy sleep on a thing like that. And here you were, poking fun at sweet, freckle-faced Carol… sweet, sweet Carol who had done you a bigger solid than you could’ve ever imagined.
Tomorrow at check-out, you were going to leave her a $50 tip. You might name your firstborn after her.
You looked at Tyler. He looked at you. The poor man was aghast, and the more he glanced despondently at his abode for the next eight hours, the funnier it got until you were cackling, actually cackling like a Disney witch.
You unzipped your suitcase and took out your toiletries bag, still laughing as you stepped into the room’s bathroom and sent him a little wave.
“Sweet dreams, Owens!”
Hell, it was Christmas—you’d be leaving Carol an even $100.
-
You made a point of taking your time in the shower, luxuriating both in the steam and the dejected look on Tyler’s face. A chair! An actual chair! After finishing, you took the robe hanging off the hook, figuring it was your prerogative as a lady, and opened the door just the tiniest crack to see what Tyler was up to. What you saw made you snatch your phone off the counter and leap from your hiding place like a fearless war photographer.
The shutter clicked, a series of lightning-quick flashes that caught Tyler’s attention. By the time he whipped his head to the side with a glare and a command to “delete that!” you’d snapped half-a-dozen photographs of his position on the makeshift “bed.”
Carol must have sent up linens while you were in the shower because he’d pushed the chair up against the coffee table in a futile attempt to be more comfortable; his legs stuck out to a truly comical degree and he was covered in a floral blanket that could only be described as grandmotherly. Your phone—bless it—had captured the exact moment of shock mixed with absolute indignity.
There was no way he’d be able to sleep without falling over. You only hoped that when he inevitably fell on his ass it happened with enough volume to wake you from the sound sleep you’d be having in bed by yourself.
You tucked your phone in your pocket, smiling like one of Hell’s angels.
“Absolutely not,” you said to his request. “Shower's yours.”
Tyler grabbed a bundle of things off the floor.
“Let me guess, you used up all the hot water.”
“You wound me,” you lied. “I’d never be so petty.”
He scoffed, gestured to his eyes in the universal symbol of I’m watching you and moved past, locking the bathroom door with a resolute click.
A few moments later, you heard the sound of the shower turning on and settled into bed—your lovely, only-yours bed—pleased that the sheets were clean, the mattress soft, the pillows comfortable, and debated whether or not to turn on the TV, but the shower taps squealed sooner than you expected.
Huh. Guess Tyler isn’t a fan of an ice-cold rinse.
You rushed to turn off the bedside lamp, adopting a deep-sleep pose. You barely managed in the time it took him to pad out into the main room, bringing with him a warm, clean, soapy smell.
You held your breath, imagined he could tell you were faking—especially when he paused his movements at the foot of your bed. But then his footsteps moved towards his sad little chair and he turned off his own light.
All you heard for a while was the rustling of sheets, the creaking of the chair beneath his weight. There was a moment of total silence when you almost fell asleep. Then he tossed and turned. The chair protested. You heard him groan.
“Y’alright over there?” you asked, hoping the answer was no.
Tyler’s words were laced with sarcasm.
“Who, me? Just peachy.”
“Nighty-night, then.”
You sighed contentedly and dozed, thinking about Tyler’s future back pain and the satisfaction of winning Carol over to your side with a generous tip. Take that, Tyler’s dimples! The problem was, you actually wanted to get a few hours’ sleep; there was still a fair bit of driving left for you to do, and Tyler just wouldn't shut up.
You heard every creak, shift, and sound of frustration.
Finally, you sat up and growled, “Could you try being more quietly uncomfortable?”
“Hey, I’m just trying to sleep.”
“I can hear your breathing all the way over here!”
“That's not my breathing,” he said, “that’s your guilty conscience.”
You glared into the dark. I will not let him get the better of me. You took a fortifying breath and kept your voice light—viciously light.
“You know, there’s still time for you to sleep in your car. You’ll be the first person ever to be cryogenically frozen.”
“That's not how cryogenics works, you muppet.”
You launched a pillow in his direction, pleased when it made contact. He sat up and protested, “Hey!”
“Did you just call me a muppet?! You know, if you disappeared I could always blame the storm.”
“Carol would remember me,” he rejoined.
“Maybe I’ll disappear Carol too.”
“Wow, two bodies? Sounds like you'll have your work cut out for you.”
“I’m very resourceful.”
“Oh, I bet you are…”
Argh! Slamming your fists down, you ground out the words you’d been holding back ever since you saw his grinning rodeo-ass face in New York:
“There is no way I’m letting you win that Heller Grant!”
Your nostrils flared, chest heaved, eyes all but emitted laser beams. Tyler, for his part, remained annoyingly composed.
“I don't think that's up to you. But,” he added, “I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.”
“Really? And why’s that?”
“No reason, just a friendly head’s up.”
“Something tells me there’s nothing friendly about it.”
He paused. “Hey, what’s a little harmless competition between meteorologists, right?”
“…Did you really just ask that question?”
You both knew scientists were messy as fuck. Denying that they could be egotistical, overly dramatic, delicate with their egos, and especially prone to schadenfreude was a cheap attempt on Tyler’s part.
He chuckled, as if admitting it was true.
“Fine, touché. But it’s really not personal. It's a grant—everyone wants to win it. It’s not like we’re trying to run you out of business or anything.”
“Oh, believe me, we aren’t worried about that,” you shot back. “Everyone knows Kate Carter is the ace up your sleeve. But that’s it—one ace.”
“One ace is all you need.”
“Not in this economy it’s not.”
“It’s about the storms!” Tyler said. “You do get that, don't you? Saving lives, limiting damage…”
“Right, I forgot—you're Saint Tyler, the Tornado Wrangler for profit!” you mocked.
There was a silence in the room, accusatory. Deafening. After this, you were definitely going on Santa’s Naughty list, you thought, not only this year but for at least fifteen to life.
“Sorry, that was shitty,” you admitted, swallowing your pride.
“Yeah, it was. You have no idea why I do what I do. And obviously I have no idea why you’re such a—”
“Bitch?” you supplied.
“I wouldn't use that word. I wouldn't,” he reiterated seriously. “I was going to say ‘why you’re such a bee in my bonnet.’”
You let out a snort. “Shut up.”
“Has anyone ever told you you're unreasonably distrustful?”
“Only about three-point-five therapists.”
“Why the point-five?” he asked.
“One was a grad student.”
He laughed. “Guess weather research doesn’t pay—even if you do wear fancy suits.”
That made you smile. You and Tyler were as diametrically opposed as two could people get, even down to your clothes.
“Let’s just agree,” you said, remembering the spirit of the season, “that we rub each other the wrong way and leave it at that.”
“Hey, I’ve never had a problem with you. I mean, yeah, we’re always up against each other for funding. It’s a race to the top—winner takes all, whoever publishes first gets the bragging rights. But that’s the game—I know that. Now, if you have a problem with me, this seems like as good a time as any to clear the air because I really have no idea what I could've done to make you hate my guts like this.”
You rolled your eyes.
“Oh, sure, be the mature one, take the high road… Tell me, Owens, does it ever get exhausting being so fucking perfect all the time?”
Another pause.
“What the hell are you going on about?” The chair creaked. “‘Perfect’? I’ve never said I was—FUCK!”
You perked up, reached an arm to turn on the light. Tyler was sprawled on the floor. The coffee table and chair were no longer attached and he was nursing what looked to be his hip while kicking at the granny blanket tangled round legs.
“Did you just fall into the gap?” you said eagerly, trying to record the image in your brain.
He wrestled the blanket until he finally won, then stood resentfully, his hair mussed, a crazed look in his eyes.
“Yes, I fell into the gap! But there was no video evidence,” he said pointing. “You can’t prove it. At this rate, it might be smarter to sleep on the floor.”
“Looks like it.”
You watched him kick the chair away with his foot and lay the blanket on top of the coarse brown carpet. He tossed his pillow down and picked up the sheet, holding it in front of his body and looking like he might actually prefer to try his luck in the parking lot than on the inhospitable floor. You observed him with interest, biting your thumbnail and watching his throat move with a sigh, the dejected set of his shoulders, the strong jaw set until it looked like it would break glass.
“Oh, fine!” you said. “You look like my senior dog trying to decide where to lay down!”
“You have a dog?” he asked with enough skepticism to be insulting.
“She lives with my sister.”
“What’s her name?” His jaw relaxed, eyes softened.
“Doppler. Don’t laugh!” you exclaimed, though it fell on deaf ears.
“That’s kind of… really nerdy.”
“Do you want to sleep on the floor?”
“I’m sleeping on the floor anyway.”
You whipped the covers off the left side of the bed. Tyler’s eyes almost bugged out of his head.
“No.”
“Come on, Owens, I don't have cooties.”
“It’s not about the cooties, I’m trying not to get killed Basic Instinct-style!”
You knew the scene: Sharon Stone fucking her rock star boyfriend before stabbing him to death with an ice pick. Unbidden, your mind filled with images of Tyler underneath you, his throat bared to you as you rode him.
“You wish!”
Tyler looked at you sternly.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“We’ll make a divider out of pillows!” you suggested, starting the master feat of engineering by plopping all your extra ones vertically down the center of the bed.
You didn’t know where this sudden stroke of generosity had come from. Only ten minutes before you would’ve been perfectly fine—nay, ecstatic—to know that Tyler was about to spend six hours in pain and discomfort.
Maybe it was your guilty conscience. Maybe he’d convinced you that this vendetta you had against him was one-sided and kind of silly. Maybe you just wanted to get some damn sleep without feeling like you were racking up bad karma by not offering to share the bed.
He eyed your attempts like a skeptic, his hands on his hips.
Damn, they were slutty little white tees… you thought.
“This is ridiculous,” he pointed out. And yet he’d dropped the sheet and stopped all attempts at sleeping on the floor like an imprisoned martyr.
“Ridiculous” was a good way to describe what the start of this holiday was turning out to be. If you’d told your past self that come December 23rd you’d be sharing a hotel room, even a bed, with Tyler Owens, you’d have laughed in your own face. But here it was—courtesy of the weather, a possible redheaded Christmas elf, and a series of minor coincidences that had all resulted in this: you shrugging and saying, “Tell me something I don’t know. Tick-tock,” you added with a clap for emphasis, “my goodwill has a time limit!”
“Very festive of you. Are you sure this is okay?”
He approached you with a cautious air, turning down the covers like you might yell “psych!” and attack him at any moment. Even when he laid himself down, it was at the very edge of the bed, and you thought he might end up on the floor anyway given a hasty mid-sleep roll, but then, that would be his own doing and he’d have nothing else to blame but his own clumsiness.
“Just keep your hands to yourself,” you decreed.
“Obviously.”
You turned the light off.
This isn’t so bad, you thought. If you closed your eyes, you could almost forget he was there. You hummed to yourself, snuggling down, finally making headway on the quest for rest and relaxation. Twenty minutes passed, maybe an hour. Hell, it might have been two—all you knew was that Tyler was not keeping up his end of the bargain.
“You’re encroaching on my space!” you hissed, pushing back against pillows that had moved to your side of the bed.
Tyler turned, not remorseful in the least. “I’ve got, like, half-a-foot on you! What do you want me to do?”
“That’s sizeist,” you sniffed.
There was a sound from his direction.
“Are you laughing?” you accused.
“Yeah, I’m laughing… You’re funny. And that’s how I know I don’t have a problem with you.”
You were unexpectedly pleased, despite his bed theft and the rehashing of your previous conversation. No one had ever called you funny before, though you’d always thought you were.
Tyler Owens thinks I’m funny?
So sue me—you were only human and not above hoarding little compliments.
“What did you mean,” he started to ask, shifting so that he could lay on his back, “about me being ‘perfect’? Not that I don’t find it flattering, it's just not true at all and it didn't sound like a good thing, by the way that you said it.”
You kept silent, staring at the A/C unit attached to the wall.
“I know you’re not asleep!” he declared, poking you in the back.
“And how would you know what I sound like asleep?”
“Well, it wouldn't sound like speaking, now would it?”
Shit. He had a point.
You let out a sigh, regretting your magnanimity now that you were in a dark room side-by-side with the man and couldn't avoid his charm or the ease he inspired like magic.
You’d always found that the most unsettling thing about him.
“You’re gonna get the grant,” you admitted with more sincerity than you meant. In your voice you could hear the layers of frustration and insecurity and anger and disappointment that you couldn’t face in the day, when you had people counting on you and a reputation to uphold.
Tyler was quiet a moment.
“You don't know that.”
“Yeah, I do. I’m not good with the whole… schmoozing thing. Not like you are.”
“Schmoozing?” he asked.
“That’s what it is! You’re good with people.”
“So are you.”
“No, I’m not,” you laughed bitterly, craning your neck to say it over your shoulder. “I’m prickly.”
“That’s bullshit,” Tyler said. “And, anyway, this is research, not a personality contest.”
“Ha!”
“You do know there are plenty of prickly scientists out there getting people to throw money at them all the time? Sometimes, it’s the pricklier the better—people think that if you're really a genius, you should treat everyone around you like the bottom of the garbage pail.”
“It’s different for you,” you pointed out.
“How so?”
You sat up, eyeing his shadowed form.
“Well, sweetie, there’s this thing called discrimination—it’s what happens when having certain anatomy makes people more inclined to think you know what you're doing.”
“Very profound… That’s not what you meant.”
He was right. While sexism did come into funding, as it came into a lot of things where it had no place, your main gripe about Tyler had nothing to do with him being a man and everything to do with him being, well, him.
You raked a hand through your hair.
“All you have to do is walk into a room and get pally with the panel,” you confessed. “I can’t compete with that.”
Somehow, through the dark, his eyes found yours. His expression was unreadable, but you could feel his attention on you, his scrutiny—thoughtful, patient, wanting to understand.
“I don’t know what to say,” he said at last.
“Seriously? You’re gonna make me be honest with you and then leave me holding the hot potato of awkwardness?”
“I’m not doing it on purpose,” he laughed. “I just… It’s not like I get up in the morning thinking, ‘Hm, what grant can I possibly steal from you today?’”
“Right,” you drawled, “you just can’t help being you.”
“I can’t!” he insisted, rising up on his elbows. “I like people. I like meeting them… talking to them—even the buttoned-up ones that look like they haven't been outside of an office building in months. I can't apologize for that. But it is a little unfair of you if your sole reason for being mean to me all the time amounts to two cents and a bit of pocket lint.”
“I am not mean!” you protested.
Tyler cocked his head.
“Okay, maybe I’m a bit brusque,” you allowed. “But I let you sleep in my bed!”
“For which I’ll be forever grateful…”
You opened your mouth.
“…but not enough to turn down the grant.”
You shrugged, not expecting him to hand you the award on a silver platter.
“It was worth a shot,” you said. Another joke.
Tyler gestured with his hands; you could see them fluttering around expressively in the near dark.
“You’ve just gotta stop approaching people and automatically assuming that they’re not on your side,” he said gently, and because you were a contrarian, you chose to take at least one-sixteenth of offense.
“Are you mansplaining relationships to me?”
“Not mansplaining, just a friendly bit of advice. Take it or leave it,” he tacked on, shrugging his shoulders—damn his shoulders…
“Thanks.”
You were trying to wrestle your brain away from the thought of his bare chest again.
His bare chest… the expanse of his chiseled abs, the dip of his hips…
You looked away, your face as hot as your shame. You would not have sex thoughts about a man you were sharing a bed platonically with. You would not admit to yourself that your traitorous gaze had wandered down to the outline of certain parts while he was standing there in gray sweats and a white T-shirt that left little or nothing to your debauched imagination.
You would not.
You would not.
Santa, come get me before I forfeit all brownie points for life.
“Now this is awkward.” The words slipped out of your mouth. You pulled the sheet up to your chin as if it were a straitjacket and Tyler chuckled to himself, probably thinking that you meant awkwardness at having a moment of vulnerability rather than red-hot lust.
“Go to sleep,” he said kindly, turning back on his left side.
“Alright. Night.”
“Night.”
-
Later, you would swear it didn't happen on purpose. At some point in the night, after Christmas Eve had settled well and truly over this random Oklahoma town, the pillow fort was forgotten as you and Tyler fell asleep, succumbing to the fatigue of the day’s travel and your late-night conversations.
The first inkling you had was that your pillow was far too warm against your cheek—and it moved, up and down, like the gentle swaying of a boat upon a calm sea. When you regained enough consciousness, you realized that the “pillow” kept a beat, and that's when you realized your pillow wasn't a pillow at all but the cradle of Tyler’s chest.
He’s quite comfortable, you thought, still half-asleep. He had his arm thrown around you and the tips of his fingers rested against a patch of naked back where your shirt had ridden up.
So far, so good; you couldn’t complain about the weighted blanket treatment—at least not in your hazy, sleep-softened state. You sighed happily, snuggling further into his shirt.
You felt his arms tighten.
His breathing shift.
You were straddling the line between dream and wakefulness when you noticed his legs tangled up in yours…
…and the hard protrusion pressing right against your stomach.
You opened your eyes. Tyler was awake and springing out of bed like he had a whole swarm of bees in his bonnet.
“Oh god,” he exclaimed, “I am so sorry! That is not… I did not—”
“It’s fine,” you tried to say.
“No! No, it’s not.”
“Tyler, would you stop acting like a virgin with the vapors? It’s cold, I’m not the stillest of sleepers, nothing was meant by it.”
He ran a hand through his hair, then put it on his hip, then pointed—you didn’t know at whom, he was simply unable to be still, and the more he panicked the more you thought it was silly how he was making such a big deal out of nothing.
(Okay, so maybe it wasn't nothing, but one of you had to be the adult about it.)
“I was not trying to put the moves on you,” he emphatically declared.
“That was made abundantly clear by what you said to Carol. Also by the drool on your pillow.”
“The—”
His gaze darted. His face took on an added hue of pallid as he bent over his pillow and straightened, eyebrows battened, finding nothing there.
“See, that was mean.”
“No, that was funny,” you laughed.
The whole time, you did your best to keep your eyes trained above his shoulders, though you had a bone-deep curiosity now that you’d felt the impression of his dick against your skin.
If your periphery was to be trusted—which, your doctor said you had excellent vision in that regard—he was as well-endowed as he was rumored to be, sometimes with envy, sometimes pejoratively and in relation to his ego. Now that you’d spent an entire day crossing paths, you weren't so sure about that last bit. But you were sure that in the privacy of your own thoughts, you’d have a bitch of a time unknowing that Tyler Owens was, in every regard, unfairly blessed.
“Back to neutral corners?” you asked, patting the bed.
Tyler stared at the mattress with something like horror.
“You are not being normal about this!” you exclaimed.
“Maybe I oughta sleep on the floor.”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah, it’s just for a few hours more.”
You sighed.
“Tyler James Owens, now you are the one being a muppet.”
“Take that back! And how do you even know my middle name?”
“It’s called Google. Now stop acting like a muppet and I’ll stop calling you one!”
Drat… You were so close, but your eyes snagged on the bulge in his pants at the exact moment Tyler was looking at you. There was no way to deny it.
You wiped your face of all expression.
Tyler pleaded, “Do not make this worse for me than it already is.”
“I didn’t say anything!”
“You don’t have to, it's written all over your face.”
Me? My face? You pointed at yourself.
Tyler huffed, “You aren't letting me forget this for as long as I live, are you?”
“Not in your dreams…” you fessed up. “Need me to pace around the hall for ten minutes, let you take care of business? I have a spare sock you can hang on the door.”
“You’re evil.”
“Nooooo, where are you going?” you needled, watching him head to the bathroom with a scowl on his face. “I was having so much fun!”
“Mind your own business!” he yelled back.
“But Tyler, it’s perfectly natural!”
He locked the door.
Only then did you cover your mouth and really let yourself have a laugh.
-
He took exactly 23 minutes. You knew because you timed him, a childish impulse you indulged in trade for not probing the question of what he might be thinking about as he got off. Obviously, you knew enough biology to not flatter yourself into believing that his morning wood was down to you; still, you allowed yourself to believe it just the tiniest bit. It made you feel better—to think he was affected by you. To believe you weren’t alone in being provoked to unexpected places.
He came up to the bed with a wary glance. On purpose, you pretended to be uncommonly interested in your nails.
“I thought you’d be asleep.”
“Didn’t feel like it,” you said, buffing a nonexistent spot on your shirt. “All good?”
“Don’t start.” He took his pillow and made for the chair.
You clicked your tongue. “You really don't have to sleep on the floor, you know…”
Which was kind.
“...I thought that was the whole point of Tyler’s Special Solo Time.”
Which wasn’t.
He rounded on you with his finger outstretched.
“Do not call it that!”
“Okay!”
“Never again!”
“Fine!”
“And for your information—that isn’t what I was doing in there.”
“Oh!” you said, genuinely surprised, “I just assumed…”
“Well, you know what they say about assuming.”
You make an ASS out of U and ME.
Color me surprised—you genuinely thought Tyler had been in the bathroom rubbing one out.
Could it be that he was too much of a gentleman to do it with you the next room over? That seemed like the likeliest explanation.
You were touched. Weirdly, inappropriately.
Also let down by the fact that you weren’t sexually irresistible enough to make him lose all sense of propriety—granted, you hadn’t been trying to be sexually irresistible at the time, more like drooling into his shirt.
“God, what?” he asked, eyes boring into yours like he was trying to crack open your mind and read it like a book, pushed to the brink when he couldn’t figure out what you were thinking or if you believed him about not masturbating in the bathroom.
“Nothing! Why are you chewing me out just because you got an erection?”
“Don’t say ‘erection’!”
You rolled your eyes.
“I’m not gonna call it a boner—I’m not in middle school anymore!”
“You have gotta be kidding me…”
He face-planted onto the bed, not consciously, you didn’t think, more like the natural result of a situation that’d understandably fried his brain.
You could relate… and it was supremely satisfying to hear him say the words you’d been thinking for over a day: you have got to be kidding me, indeed.
“This is the weirdest fucking Christmas I have ever had,” he mumbled into the mattress.
You laughed, feeling not an ounce of animosity as you watched his prone form. He was funny, and he’d been nicer than you deserved. You no longer believed that he had kicked you in the back during your flight on purpose.
“What are your plans for the holidays?” you asked him, letting him off the hook about his penis.
He turned his head and searched you for any trace of nefarious intent. He answered when he was sure you weren’t going to keep messing with him.
“The team and I are going to Kate’s. Then I’m spending the start of the New Year at home, hopefully, if there isn’t another fire to put out.”
“You’re from Arkansas,” you said.
“Mm.”
“‘Regnat populus.’”
He quirked his brow.
“‘The People Rule,’” you explained. “You don't know your own state’s motto?”
“Nobody knows their state’s motto.”
“I had to learn them all for school.”
“High school?”
“Elementary.”
“Oh,” he laughed, “so you grew up rich.”
“Shut up.”
He sat against the headboard next to you, crossing his ankles.
“What made you want to become a meteorologist?”
“Seriously?” you asked.
“What?”
“It’s a cliched question.”
“It’s a getting-to-know-you question!”
You frowned.
“Why would you ever want to get to know me? I’ve done nothing but fight you since the day we met.”
“Why wouldn't I?”
Plain, simple.
The lamplight made it impossible to hide a thing. There was a line between his brows, as if he couldn’t for the life of him understand why you couldn’t understand. “I like people.” You’d thought it trite at the time, you didn’t trust it, but you were thinking maybe it was true. Instead of judging you by the way you challenged, harangued, goaded, mocked, judging him, he’d kept trying to figure you out. It was one of the reasons he was good at his job—the merging of both science- and people-smarts.
If you had a brain in your head, you might learn from him. But to do that you’d have to get your head out of your ass and stop seeing him as the enemy.
Except you didn’t.
Sometime between the Heller offices and this moment in the Sunnyside Inn, your feelings towards him had changed. The animosity? Gone. All that was left in its place was a newfound respect, fresh like the layer of snow sitting over the world outside the walls of your hotel room, and, if you were being brutally honest, an attraction that was hard to ignore.
You held your breath.
His hair, glinting bronze, was sleep-mussed—the detail intimate, arousing, just like the stubble on his cheeks and the rugged line of his throat leading to the curves of those shoulders you couldn’t stop thinking about. What was that one corny-as-fuck phrase some fuckboy musician had once said?
Sexual napalm.
Tyler Owens was sexual napalm and you weren’t immune.
“Stop looking at me like that,” you said.
It was Projection 101, but in this case you weren’t entirely wrong.
Tyler’s eyes wandered down to your mouth, seductive without even trying. He was breathing as fast as you, his lips parted, tongue peeking out to wet them when he said, “Can’t.”
And that was all it took. One second you were staring at each other with twin fuck-me expressions and the next you were in his lap, your hands buried in his hair. The kiss was eager—messy—uncaring of finesse, indifferent to perfection. It was the exact opposite of the way you’d been living your life and it was mostly down to him. Even when he’d been driving you absolutely insane, there was no denying that Tyler brought out in you something hard to control. He made you ambitious, competitive, unfiltered—sometimes to an unflattering degree—but God, did it feel good.
He tilted his head and delved his tongue into your mouth. You groaned, pulled him back by the hair until you felt a rumbling sound in his throat which you decided to chase on instinct, latching your mouth onto that part of him you’d been obsessing over for the last few hours, sucking, biting, laving your way down to his clavicle.
“This is not how you get to know someone,” you joked, feeling him get hard again underneath you.
“Yeah, it is…”
“Don’t say 'biblically.’”
He laughed—it was a giggle that made you smile and peer into his face.
“You said it, not me. Are you gonna kick me out of bed later?” he asked, stroking a hand up your thigh.
“No. Are you gonna run for the hills like I soiled your virtue?”
He balked. “That is not what I did.”
“Yeah, it is!”
“Well”—he nipped your jaw, hand slyly making its own path up to your breast, which he stroked open-palmed so that you rocked your hips against his—”I promise not to be virtuous at all for the next…” He glanced at his watch. “Three hours.”
“Three hours?”
“What can I say,” he shrugged. “I’m a people pleaser. It’s my curse.”
-
Suffice to say, by the time 10:00 o’clock rolled around and you and Tyler made your way down so you could settle up the room with Carol, you were feeling like a million bucks. Not even a full spa day could have infused you with this much energy.
There was a pep in your step, a smile plastered to your face, and when Carol said, “Happy holidays! It was nice having you with us!” you were so smug that you slipped the tip in her hand and said, “Thank you, Carol, you sure made it sunny!”
Tyler cackled, but tried to do it subtly. (And failed.)
Right on the money, the snow had stopped falling during the night. It’d be a white Christmas, all right, but you should be able to drive home safely and arrive in time for lunch.
Tyler loaded your suitcase into your car, gallant as ever.
“So,” he said.
“So.”
You exchanged shy glances, which was new for you. You’d never had reason to feel shy around Tyler before, but then, you’d had him inside you not too long ago and the memory of the things you’d done, the things you’d said, which you wouldn’t admit even under threat of perjury, were enough to make you almost blush.
“We should hit the road,” you said dumbly, schooling your features into an unbothered mask.
“Yeah. I’m sure the others have already made it to Ms. Carter’s farm.”
“Well… merry Christmas.”
“Yeah, merry Christmas.”
You opened your door, settled into your seat. You were about to pull the door closed when Tyler stopped it, hand closed around the top.
“Can I call you, after the holidays?”
“Sure.”
“Okay.”
“Cool.”
“Cool.”
He laughed. “Who’s holding the hot potato now, you or me?”
“I think we’re sharing this one,” you replied.
“I don’t mind that.”
“Yeah,” you said, “neither do I.”
He smiled at you for a while, then closed your door and watched you drive off. You followed his movements in the rearview until your paths diverged, then turned up the radio.
“Merry Christmas Eve, one and all! It’s a gorgeous one out there—we couldn’t have asked for better weather. Here’s one just for you. I’m sure you know it, so sing along: it’s Dean Martin and it’s our ‘Winter Wonderland,’ right here, in the heart of good ol’ Oklahoma…”

winter & christmas moments | hcs
featuring. rafayel, sylus, zayne, xavier & caleb + reader
content. fluff + random things they’d do during xmas/winter as your bf
note. happy holidays !! pls i wrote this to cope with how i feel about them not being under my tree this year and most importantly.. under ME.
i don’t wanna talk ab it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
rafayel.
buys a big cozy house in paris just to spend the holidays together privately with you.
when it would be time to open up your gifts, he would watch your reactions to his christmas presents all through.
i’m talking studying your micro-expressions.
gets you this rare gorgeous heart shaped locket
“i also got a tiiny photo of us in there too. see? that way, when you open and close it… we’re kissing.”
gently takes it from your hand to show you, as he opens and closes it many many times with this excited look across his face.
eyes and plans to burn each and every gift to you by everyone else though. especially the ones by thomas.
and does.
because he felt your reaction to thomas’ gift was way better than his
when you’d eventually find out (again)…
“hey what don’t take his side, it’s his fault for getting you flammable gifts in the first place”
you’d make him promise to gift him back money in return and he would be all grumpy pouty about it but still does so
ends up re-buying you all the gifts he burnt, so it feels like they're all from him and were all his idea first.
anyway, you’d spend christmas indoors this year because your company is all he needs and by the fireplace, you would share your warmth with him in more ways than one..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sylus.
flies you out to your favorite snowy country, where you’d come to find out that he secretly bought a house near its snowy mountains just for you.
decorates your huge christmas tree with you and carries you (and uses his evol to), to help you place an angel on top of it.
“cute.”
“ikr omg” you’d say
he was talking about you
you’d think you would’ve at least seen/guessed all the unwrapped gifts he got you under the tree
no
here comes more ON christmas day AND the day after. and the week. and the month
up until new years. and valentines. and—
would gift you all you talked ab like once. specially gets you stunning (garnet) jewelries and more in your favorite gemstones
you’d somehow convince him to wear this big floofy matching christmas polar bear onesie with you btw
tells you he ‘doesn’t do cheesy’
matches with you anyway
tucked diamond earrings in the pocket of your onesie just to see your reaction when you find it.
surprises you with a private winter concert performed by a band
you’d try to pull him to dance with you in the snow and he would purposely stay rooted in his spot at first, just to see you struggle to pull him with all your might before he complies with a chuckle.
yes you'd both be wearing your onesies as he dances sweetly with you.
knows how much you LOVE the holidays so he makes it worth remembering
yeah you take that as you will too
Tumblr media Tumblr media
zayne.
wakes up earlier than you to quietly add more decorations to the entire apartment by himself while you’re asleep, so that you wake up to fairy lights and your favorite seasonal flower
“omg zayne, you… you did all this? for me?”
“yes.”
LMAOO SORRY ITS SO FUNNY FOR NO REASON WHENEVER I REMEMBER THAT HE
ok
says yes as he comes up to you to kiss your forehead
“merry christmas:)”
keeps a detailed list of your favorite winter activities to do in his pocket
and lots of candy canes & peppermint candies too when you go out together
would take you to a private snow resort and he’d try to teach you how to snowboard
looks even hotter on a snowboard
hot when on a snowboard
hot
when on
a snowboard
makes you hot chocolate drinks with smiley faces marshmallows as you watch your favorite christmas movies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
xavier.
admires you as you bake cookies until you ask him to try making a batch after watching you.
he successfully does… until he adds an excessive amount of much sugar
gives you the exact same look he does when he loses a plushie LMFAOOO
“… i think i added a little too much.”
is a pro at building gingerbread houses
eats all the gingerbread men
“idk what happened.. i tried to save them but a christmas ghost ate them all before i could”
adorable thoughtful gift giver
stared jeremiah DOWN when he handed you his own gift and flowers
felt the need to tell you he gave jeremiah the idea to gift you those.
THAT BOY IS LYINGG
gives you a very festive night that same day (week)
whispers soft promises of forever while the snowflakes fall
possessive freaky xavier yum
#needthat
Tumblr media Tumblr media
caleb.
wears a santa hat as he’s wrapping gifts for everyone you both know
“caleb what are you doing to that poor wrapping paper” you’d ask
“hey what i thought it looked good :(”
“it doesn’t”
ok it does if you squint hard enough
(if you close your eyes)
gets you matching gorgeous ugly christmas sweaters for when you go out together in it.
“we’re not wearing that”
you wear it.
helps the elderly you come across cross the street and wishes them merry christmas / happy holidays
purposefully steps under every mistletoe to get a kiss from you
“coome on pipsqueak ;) bring it in”
takes you ice skating
loves when you cling onto him so you don’t fall.
kisses all over your face to make you laugh after a deep sad/meaningful convo ab life after talking about nothing and everything under the stars while sharing a big scarf together

anyway if no one else will i guess it has to be me!!
klaus hc’s : the situationship edition
part one
content warning;; klaus x reader, klaus with he/they pronouns, female reader, friends to friends who have sex ?, unexpected boners, sexualization without knowledge, guilty conscience (for a minute), oral sex, 90% not canon, mostly just self indulgent writing
a/n;; there’s simply going to have to be a part two, i tried to get all my thoughts out and i couldn’t. it’s three a.m. and i got out what i could.
Tumblr media
- it’s his fault truly, i feel like he is such a romantic
- friends first, you’d meet in the evening, at a record store maybe right before closing, or maybe in a café
- when it comes down to people asking about how you met neither of you have the same answer, always the same line
- “we’ve known each other forever”
- late night phone calls to soothe each other
- klaus would be the first to ask you to come over past the usual “hang out” hours
- “i’ve really tried everything y/n, even the hour long meditation cd”
- “please just come over and sit with me?”
- “i’m bored to death” (he’s literally immortal)
- you agree, you’re only a few blocks away from the academy anyway and besides, you couldn’t sleep either
- klaus would meet you halfway and walk you back, he hates the idea of you outside, alone, in the dark.
- definitely the first time you’ve had a good look around their room, you’d only been in it a handful of times and only for a moment or two
- klaus is a messy kind of organized, but it feels so much like him
- his bed sheets are burnt orange, and their duvet is a dark blue, there’s tons of pillows and fuzzy throws littered on the bed. it feels cozy.
- his nightstand is the cleanest thing surrounding you, an incense burner, a pack of old cigarettes, a bottle of high dollar whiskey, and some jewelry strewn around.
- it smells like the night in his room, one window cracked to let in a breeze, a soft candle burning with the scent of pine, and the scent of him causing you to feel oh so comfortable
- for a moment you question why you hadn’t spent more time with them here, why you wouldn’t want to experience such a private part of your best friends life
- but that was it exactly, this was too private
- but klaus felt better, he felt so much safer with you around, with people around in general but when he had called you he knew he wanted you specifically
- he wasn’t completely honest with you about why he couldn’t sleep or what was bothering him, he didn’t want you to know his past or what kept him up at night
- he was lucky enough to have convinced ben to let him have alone time with you, as he wasn’t sure he could keep up that charade much longer without at least claiming to be delusional
- nothing happens the first time you stay over, or the second, or third even
- the weirdest thing to happen is the morning after, at least the first time he walked you out you wore your own clothes
- by the the third “sleepover” you had strolled into the kitchen, one of their sleep shirts and a pair of boxers you prayed passed as shorts thrown on
- you had only been caught by diego and five, both of which seemed to have been in shock and blubbering, obviously a little disappointed in your decisions by the looks they gave
- you knew it looked strange, you weren’t completely oblivious. the real problem was that you expected klaus to be more conscious of what they were thinking. he wasn’t.
- after your third night over in less than two weeks ben broke the news to klaus, everyone in the house, including him honestly, thought you two were hardcore banging. maybe even more since you were sleeping over and wearing his clothes out.
- klaus was APPALLED.
- they literally had no clue what to say, he was slightly embarrassed but also he didn’t completely mind, it was obvious you two were just close friends
- the next time though he was outside your front door when they called.
- “hey”
- he was too nervous someone would embarrass you, what if you were to find out about what everyone was thinking. his house was super off limits right now.
- he figured you’d be more than happy to sleep in your bed anyway.. and maybe they wanted to snoop a little
- you guys spent such little time at your house
- the reality of it was a horrified expression and profuse apologies, you didn’t have nearly as much space or even an excuse to why your house wasn’t as tidy as you wanted it
- you let him in, walking the both of you back towards your bedroom after noting a couch is no place for a sleepover
- deja vu
- klaus would examine all your trinkets, take note of how everything smelled of you, he truly felt so calm
- “y/n?”
- as if it couldn’t get worse, he pulls out your vibrator from beneath the blanket where he sat. snickering, his ears turning a light pink.
-face flushed you would take it from him, scrambling to put it in your bedside drawer
- it finally clicks, he gets it, he knows why everyone thinks you two are at least messing around. because for the first time, he has a painfully hard cock, and it’s just the idea of you touching yourself in the same spot he’s lounging about on
- he tries so hard to play it cool, covering himself with a blanket, using his hand to gently push it down before you notice
- “you wanna do a movie tonight?”
- “ooo of course!”
- you’d beg him to watch a slasher, and as per usual he’d give in, even though he hates them passionately
- comfy clothes, and popcorn with m&ms mixed in, and sugary sweet drinks to pair with
- “pleaseeee” he’d give into your crocodile tears, giving up his clothes to please you
- turning around so one another can change clothes, covering your eyes with your hands
- shirtless klaus
- after his first *ahem* problem, it would only get worse. you’d hide your face in his chest during the jump scares or when things would get eerie, tucking your arms around his torso
- only wearing a pair of thin pajama pants, opting out of the boxers he had so kindly given to you to wear as shorts yet again, even though your entire closet was mere feet away
- he can feel the curve of your breasts against his arm, and your legs slightly intertwined with his and it may actually give him a heart attack
- god it made him feel so guilty, to know you trusted him with so much of you, your life. just for him to be sitting here, in your bed, sexualizing you while you were just trying to hang out
- he tried everything to make it stop, even thinking of how ben would scold him if he were here
- you probably had a quarter of the movie left when your balance would betray you, accidentally slipping and grazing your forearm against his dick
- both of you bolting up. a mixture of shock and embarrassment across your faces
- your thighs clench ever so slightly at the thought of his arousal being over you, tension fogging your brain
- “y/n i’m so sorry”
-“fuck”
- “i don’t know what’s going on with me tonight”
- cue klaus clambering to get up, but you ushering them back down
- “what if.. we just tried it?”
- “maybe we’re just horny, it’s not a big deal”
- soft kisses, wide eyes
- pulling down his pants, his head slightly purple with pre cum leaking, smearing on his happy trail
- “are you okay with this?”
- “you’re allowed to say no”
- slowly kissing up their thighs, licking and kissing up the shaft, suckling hickies onto their lower belly
- SO so sensitive
- “ahh, st-stop”
- “i- i’m not joking, please- please i’ll cum-“
- smooth about the transition, slipping off their pants and straddling you ever so slightly to slide his hands under his your shirt, nudging your breasts further into their hands, whimpering when their fingers wrap around and twist your pebbled nipples
- “you sound so pretty”
- “fuck, are you sure?” “you’re okay with this?” “tell me if you wanna stop, okay?”
- with your consent he slowly tugs on the waistband of his boxers that rest on your hips, letting your shirt fall back down, he may be fully naked and bare but he doesn’t wanna push you to hard
- he waits for your little nod of approval before hooking his fingers, and sliding them down your soft legs
- klaus has seen bare skin before, he’s seen people who had their cocks leaking for him, or their pussy glistening and puffy waiting for him, but he’d never seen anything that compared to you
- the way you were dripping, pussy swollen and visibly aching, clit prominent and perked up, over him, if there was a heaven waiting for him he was sure he’d found it
- he’d start slow, flattening his tongue, lapping all the way up, moaning every time the taste of you hit his tongue, until he got greedy, swirling his tongue around your clit, sucking and teasing, reaching his free hand under your shirt again to palm your tits
- messy and a bit uncoordinated, bucking your hips ever so slightly as your climax approached
-pulling his hands back and wrapping his arms around your thighs to hold you still
- “‘m gonna cum, please, oh god”
- “i’m right there please honey, please”
- the endearment, that’s what would send him over the edge, he’d replay the sweetness of it in your voice over and over coming untouched, moaning and crumbling all while still pulling you closer to your orgasm
- following your orgasm till the very end, letting you guide him through, he’d speed up and slow down for as long as it took as long as he knew he was giving you a complete experience
- nuzzling and lapping up your sap
- “you’re so sweet” “so divine”
- he’d be so exhausted after, but he’d want you to have everything you needed
- “can i get you anything?” “i’ll grab you some water” “let’s clean up, i’ll help you”
- after he was sure you were well taken care of and comfortable, he’d ask you to lay with him. to soak up the afterglow of it all.
- he’d never had this kind of erotic experience before but he knew he may never have it again so he wanted to savor it. and potentially attempt to make it so good you wanted it to be a regular occurrence.
- he would give you the option of him leaving or staying, the sleepover boundary had officially been crossed creating a whole slew of new possibilities
- “stay, please”
- cuddling while sleeping was like a whole new kind of intimacy for him. the way your hair tickled his nose, being able to hear your steady breaths.
- bonus content: ben appearing at an ungodly hour to make sure klaus is okay, and realizing not only would he have to live with his nosey decision, but also with the fact that he couldn’t tell anyone what he knew.

Tumblr media
“Oh, I’m just getting ready—yeah, yeah, we can go tonight.” Her voice trickles down from the open doors of her balcony.
Sy wipes a sheet of sweat from his brow and snips another thick stem with the pruners. He nearly catches the fingertips of his thick gloves. He’s working off of instinct rather than focus. He’s entwined in her conversation, though the other side he only catches pieces.
“Ew, Margo, please, you know I'm not doing that. The kind of guys that take you home aren’t what I’m looking for,” Gem scoffs and sets something down. “Oof, I cannot get my hair to behave!”
“You look fine,” the muffled response comes from her phone speaker.
He knows she does. She always looks perfect. He pulls away a dried out stem and drops it in the clutter. It’s a nice day out but the sun is burning through his shirt. It’s like fire on the back of his neck. He pauses to adjust his hat and looks up.
He sees her shadow looking off the balcony. The house is just as immense as the yard. His work takes at least a day but he can’t complain; her father overpays him for what he does. Who wouldn’t? With a house like this? A family? You’d want it all to be kept just so.
“Ugh, don’t be a bitch,” Gem sneers. “It’s my car, I can take it when I want--”
“Yeah, but daddy--”
“Do you even want me to come over?” She snips.
He laughs but not loud enough to be heard. She has some fire and her friends deserve that. They're all spoiled. She is too but she’s not like them.
She closes the doors. Good. She forgets to do that sometimes and from the right angle, anyone could see in. If they knew the gate code, they could even get in.
He shoves the snipped ends and dead bits in a compost bag. As he rolls the edge, she comes out. He keeps her in his peripheral but doesn’t look directly at her. She waves.
“Is my dad gone?” She asks.
“Em, yeah, think he left a while ago,” he peeks over at her. He takes off his cap and wipes his face on his arm.
“Oh, it’s very hot. I should’ve brought you some water,” she tuts. “Anyhow, I’m on my way out. Looks nice out here.”
“Thanks, miss,” he says.
She smiles at him, “Sy?” She asks, hands on her hips.
“Yes, miss?”
“How does my hair look?” She turns to show him all of it. His eyes dart down to her checkered skirt. Quickly, he lifts them back to her face.
“It looks very nice,” he assures her. It always does.
“Aw, thanks, Sy,” she shimmies. “Well, have a good day. I’ll see ya next week.”
She dances off in her platform heels and digs in her purse to find her keys. The white mercedes beeps and unlocks and she takes her time getting everything sorted. Purse in the passenger, pink leather knapsack in the back.
She’s finally in. She backs up and the gates open at the push of her button. She swerves around and drives through. He watches until she’s gone. He just needs to clean up anyway.
He leaves an hour later. He leaves his truck at home. It’s too obvious. He takes the pontiac in his garage instead. The pet project put together from his fruitful business and scavenging in junk yards. He drives past Margot’s and parks a block down.
There’s a place around here where he does the hedges. They have a nice tree in the back too. It’s not exactly cozy and a bit of an effort but he gets to the top and perches between the branches. He’s been trying to cut weight but he’s always been on the thicker side.
He can see almost right into Margot’s room. Gem is there. She has a glass bottle with bright pink liquid inside. He doesn’t think she should drink so much or so early but that’s why he keeps an eye on her.
The girls eventually head out. He follows them to the mall. He eats while they waste time at that makeup shop. They come out and he gives them a bit to get ahead of him. He’s tired but he doesn’t have any other jobs to do.
Dinner at a fancy place that demands ties and jackets sees him scrolling on the Discord. A few of the other men say they made progress, whatever that means. Some of those guys are a bit off. Especially that Cole fellow. Clumsy, to boot.
After, the girls go down the street to a flashing marquee. They head into the bar without being stopped. The pretty ones never have trouble. He waits an hour, restless, then goes in after them.
He trawls the place. He finds her. She’s got another drink. A bad habit. He nearly drowned in the stuff after he got back from serving. She’s young, she’ll learn.
A man approaches her and Margot. He’s up on Gem before she even notices. She grabs his hand and moves it away from her hip. The other girl giggles. It’s obvious her friend is uncomfortable but she just thinks it’s amusing.
Gem deserves better. She deserves people who care about more than labels and credit cards. She just needs that bubble popped. One day she’ll see.

Pairing: brother’s best friend!ellie williams x reader
Summary: you’re happy to be back in your hometown for christmas break, but that changes when an unexpected guest shows up at your house.
Author’s note: let’s pretend i posted this on time lmao anyways here’s some fluffy cliché and christmassy ellie content <3
• • • •
christmas had always been your favorite holiday. you loved everything about it; the food, buying presents, the decorations, the movies and every single tradition, but most importantly, the joy of it all and the coziness that time of year radiated.
you and your brother had just arrived home from college, so all you wanted to do was relax for a bit. you plopped down on one of the couches, letting out a big sigh.
“hey, i wanted to tell you that i invited a friend over to spend christmas with us,” your brother told you out of nowhere.
you frowned, confused, “oh, who?”
“her family went to visit one of her aunts, the one she hates, so i invited her here. mom and dad already know.”
“who is it?” you asked again.
“well—”
knock, knock.
you didn’t miss the weird glance he shot you before he went to open the door. you stayed on the couch, trying to heighten your hearing to figure out who it was.
the intrigued expression in your face morphed into a surprised one when you recognize the person’s voice. it belonged to none other than ellie williams, your brother’s best friend.
they met in orientation and immediately hit it off, yet you had never liked her. not when your brother first introduced you to her, not after the countless times she had been over at your apartment and certainly not now that she had crashed your favorite holiday.
she always found a way to mess with you, either by teasing you or doing stuff like using your favorite mug whenever she was over at your apartment or borrowing your hoodies without asking.
she really got on your nerves, and now she was at your house. you would’ve never imagined her standing in your living room and talking to your parents, but there she was.
you glanced up at her the moment her eyes fell on you, her characteristic cocky grin already making an appearance.
“hey.”
you just sent her a smile, one that only a blind person wouldn’t be able to tell was fake. after a short chit-chat, your parents left the room followed by your brother, who mouthed ‘be nice’ before leaving.
“happy to see me?” ellie asked once she checked you were alone.
“the happiest,” you replied, sarcasm violently dripping from your words.
ellie suppressed a laugh, clearly amused by how much her presence bothered you. “i promise you won’t even notice i’m here.”
you scoffed, “yeah, right,” you muttered before getting up from the couch and walking past her. “don’t go in my room,” you warned her before leaving her alone on the living room.
“you’re not gonna show me around?” she asked, raising her voice a little.
you heard her snicker and it was almost impossible for you not roll your eyes at the sound. fuming, you went to the kitchen in search of your brother.
“thanks for the warning, dumbass,” you scowled at him. he knew how you felt about ellie, but he didn’t care in the slightest.
he laughed, stuffing his mouth with multiple cookies. “you weren’t going to let me invite her if i told you.”
“exactly!”
“get over it. she’s cool, you’d like her if you actually gave her a chance.”
you huffed, “whatever.”
after that, you went to your room. you put on your favorite christmas playlist as you unpacked, but you were far too distracted to actually listen to the songs.
you wouldn’t go as far as calling ellie your enemy, but she was close to that. you just couldn’t stand her, that was why whenever she visited your brother at your apartment you stayed in your room or left, not wanting to be the victim of her constant teasing.
suddenly, the door swung open. your head shot up, alarmed. ellie was staring back at you just as surprised as you were.
“what are you doing?” you asked, annoyed.
“oh, i thought this was the guest room.”
“that’s the guest room,” you pointed to the door right across yours. “now, if you’ll excuse me—”
“you should come downstairs, i’m about to bake cookies.”
a laugh escaped your lips as you grabbed your phone to pause the music. “you are making cookies?”
ellie leaned on the doorframe, a small smile forming on her lips, “yeah, why?”
“you don’t seem like the type, that’s all.”
“yeah, well, i’m full of surprises. you’ll see.”
with that, she left. you stared at where she had been standing a second ago, completely unaware of the goofy smile on your lips. you went back to your task, too caught up in your mind to realize you hadn’t pressed play on the music.
a while later, you finished unpacking and straightening up your room in the process. the smell of freshly baked cookies made you practically float to the kitchen and you could almost hear them calling your name. trying your best to not make a sound, you stood on your tiptoes and went to grab one.
“those are for later,” ellie’s voice came out of nowhere, startling you for the second time of the day.
you immediately turned around, narrowing your eyes at her, “this is my house.”
“and those are my cookies,” she retorted, crossing her arms beneath her chest. “but fine, you can grab one.”
“just like that?”
“do you want to fight a duel over it or something?”
you rolled your eyes, reaching over to grab one of the cookies. you chose the one with the candy cane shape and took a bite just as you walked past her.
god, that’s good.
“how is it?” ellie asked, following you closely behind.
“there’s no way you made this,” you said before sitting down on the big couch.
“i did!”
“i’ll ask my mom.”
“fine, she made them. i only passed her the ingredients,” ellie admitted, rolling her eyes. she sat down next to you and watched as you turned on the tv. “what are we watching?”
“well, i was going to watch home alone.”
“cool, let’s.”
“only if you keep quiet.”
ellie layed back on the couch, nodding at your words, “i promise.”
surprisingly, she kept her word and didn’t utter a sound, but you were still fully aware of her company. ellie didn’t miss the quick glances you shot at her from time to time.
“what?” she asked, turning her head to you.
“huh?”
“you’re looking at me.”
“no, i’m not,” you furrowed your eyebrows and looked back at the tv, but you could still feel ellie’s stare on you. with a sigh, you gazed back at her. “are you going to watch the movie or not?”
“i could ask you the same thing,” ellie replied, eyes sparkling with amusement.
you looked away from her, “shut up.”
ellie just chuckled lightly at you, choosing not say anything else and pay attention to the movie. she didn’t tear her eyes away from the screen until forty minutes later, when a weight on her shoulder distracted her. confused, she looked to the side.
it surprised her to see you had fallen asleep on her. you were softly snoring away, looking as peaceful as she had ever seen you. it was the first time you were that close to her and she couldn’t help but think how horrified you’d be if you knew what you were doing.
ellie watched what was left of the movie sitting impossibly still, trying not to wake you up. once the credits rolled in, she catiously moved you off of her and left you in a comfortable position before standing up.
she watched what was left of the movie impossibly still on her spot, trying not to wake you up. once it ended, she catiously moved you off of her and left you in a comfortable position before standing up.
you woke up a while later, wrapped in a warm blanket that wasn’t there before. you were completely disoriented, not knowing where you were or what had happened when it suddenly hit you.
you sat up straight on the couch, looking around and seeing the tv turned off.
“god,” you whispered as you hid your face in your hands, embarrassed.
“go wake your sister up and tell her dinner’s ready,” you heard your mother say from the dining room.
“i’m up!” you shouted back, mentally preparing yourself to face ellie again.
everyone was already sitting at the table, looking at you with amused smiles.
“you should’ve woken me up sooner,” you groggily complained, taking a seat next to ellie.
“but you looked so adorable,” ellie said to you, leaning closer so only you could hear.
you weren’t a violent person, but all you wanted to do in that moment was to punch that stupid grin off her face.
“i’m not in the mood for jokes, ellie,” you glared at her before setting your gaze on your plate.
“who said i was joking?”
you looked back at her, but she had already engaged in another conversation with your brother.
you and ellie didn’t exchange any more words, but you got to know her a little bit better due to the million questions your parents asked her. you learned that she was actually not that bad and you certainly liked her better when she wasn’t constantly teasing you.
even though you had taken a nap, you were still incredibly tired so you went to your room after helping cleaning up. once you slipped into your favorite pajamas you were ready to sleep, but a knock on your door interrupted you.
you didn’t expect to see ellie standing on the other side.
“uh, something wrong?”
ellie shook her head, “no, we’re just about to watch a movie and i though i’d let you know in case you wanted to watch it with us.”
“oh, thanks, but i’m really tired so…”
“you’re going to sleep already? do you need me to lend you my shoulder again?”
the polite smile you had instantly disappeared and an annoyed expression taking took over your features at her taunting.
“goodnight,” you closed the door on her face, but that didn’t stop the sound of her laughter from reaching your ears.
you woke up the following morning with the sound of your family chattering downstairs, with the addition of ellie’s voice. you could’ve sworn she said your name but, having just woken up, you told yourself you had probably heard wrong.
ellie was enjoying her breakfast when she heard noises upstairs and, as a reflex, she looked up. your brother noticed, so he sent her an inquisitive look.
“what?” he asked her.
“i heard noises, i think she’s up.”
“yeah, i know. you just seem very aware of whatever my sister does,” he pointed out before taking a sip of his coffee.
“i’m just a very observant person, that’s all.”
“you, observant? you’re zoned out every time i try talk to you,” he said incredulously.
“that’s on purpose, i just don’t wanna talk to you.”
their little quarrel stopped once they saw you come in, staying suspiciously quiet. you narrowed your eyes at them as you sat down, their eyes following you.
“what?” you glanced at them.
“nothing,” ellie replied as she took a sip of her hot chocolate.
“hey, can you pass me the—” you suddenly went quiet when you noticed something that snapped the sleepiness out of you. “that’s my mug!”
ellie froze on her spot just as she was about take another sip, “uh…”
“let her use it, she’s a guest!” your mother told you. “she probably didn’t know it was yours when she grabbed it.”
“but she always does this—”
“she’s a guest,” your mother repeated.
you scoffed as your eyes fell on the girl in front of you. as expected, she was completely amused by the situation.
“i’m a guest,” ellie pronounced the words with that mocking tone that drove you crazy.
“you’re really annoying, you know that?”
your brother silently watched the scene unfold in front him. he noticed the way you were trying to hide a smile and how ellie was unable to do so. there was a huge grin on his friend face, one that only seemed to appear whenever you were around.
that was actually the first thing that made him pay more attention to your relationship’s dynamic. ellie became another version of herself with you, one that was unusually smiley and much more of a tease than she normally was.
“next time i’ll go to your house to use your favorite mug.”
“i don’t have a favorite mug.”
your family listened closely to your bickering, laughing to themselves as you and ellie kept fighting. you were like that for the rest of the day, making fun of each other and engaging in harmless and playful arguments.
that afternoon you decided to make gingerbread houses, but it soon turned into a deadly competition in which only you and ellie were participants.
it all started when ellie mocked the christmas traditions you loved so much, calling them dumb. you challenged her by saying she only thought that way because she wouldn’t be good at them. your words brought up ellie’s competitive side, so she bet that her gingerbread house would kick yours’ ass.
“oh, you’re going down,” the evil chuckle the came out of you would’ve made her laugh in another situation, but ellie was too focused on winning.
much to your dismay, ellie was weirdly artistic and, apparently, good at everything. her house ended up being much better than yours, so you had to listen to her bragging about it for what was left of the day.
christmas was getting closer and closer and, to your surprise, having ellie there wasn’t as bad as you thought it would be. in fact, you actually enjoyed having her around.
she was nicer than you would’ve imagined, really funny and had many different interests, which were fun to learn about when they were explained by her. you still found her slightly annoying since her habit of making fun of you never went away, but you were definitely getting used to it.
“you’re heading out?”
you looked up at the sound of ellie’s voice. “yeah, christmas shopping,” you replied as you wrapped a big scarf around your neck.
“oh, cool. i’m coming with you.”
you let out a small laugh, “no, you’re not.”
“i have to buy presents for the kind family who let me spend christmas with them, that includes you, the kindest of them all.”
you rolled your eyes at her evident sarcasm, “why don’t you go with my brother?”
“i need your help on what to get him,” ellie tried to convince you, but you were still hesitant. suddenly, an idea came to her mind. “c’mon, where’s the christmas spirit?”
christmas spirit.
using that card on you was low, it was obvious you wouldn’t resist.
you let out a sigh, but immediately gave in, “fine, let’s go.”
“you’re so easy to convince.”
“don’t make me regret it.”
the drive to the mall consisted in you singing whatever song came on the radio and ellie looking at you through the corner of her eye while staying strangely quiet. she hadn’t even tried to make fun of you, not even once.
“what should i get your parents?”
“you don’t have to get them anything, ellie, really.”
the mall was packed with people doing last minute christmas shopping, but you couldn’t exactly complain considering you were doing the exact same thing.
ellie followed you closely, “if you don’t help me i’ll buy them whatever crap i see first.”
“okay, do that.”
ellie groaned, “oh, c’mon.”
she kept struggling to find a way to convince you, completely oblivious to the smile you had on your lips. you had decided to help her from the beginning, but seeing her in distress was very entertaining for you.
you wandered around for a while, going into every possible store. you bought presents for everyone, except for the girl beside you.
“stay here, i have to do something,” you told her.
“really? what’s that?”
“it’s private.”
ellie hummed, “how private?”
“what?”
“why can’t i go with you?” she questioned.
“because you can’t.”
“wait, are you going to buy me a present?”
you huffed, “no.”
“you don’t have to lie.” ellie leaned in closer to you, “i know santa isn’t real,” she whispered.
you pushed her away from you as she laughed. you began walking away, ellie hurriedly catching up to you.
“what are you going to get me?”
“nothing if you keep being a pain in the ass,” you dryly replied.
“fine, go. i guess i’ll just wait here,” she pointed to an empty bench. “don’t be long.”
“don’t tell me what to do.”
ellie watched you leave with a smile plastered on her face. she sighed, laying back on the bench as she impatiently waited for you to be back. she had already picked up a present for you in one of the many stores you visited. she didn’t know how she managed to pull it off, but she was insanely proud of herself. it was difficult for you not to notice something, you had eyes everywhere.
after what seemed an eternity for ellie, you went back to find her. you almost laughed at how tired she looked, maybe christmas shopping wasn’t as fun for others as it was for you.
“bored?” you asked, amused.
“i think i actually fell asleep at one point.”
“i’m sorry,” you chuckled. “but we’re done! let’s go.”
ellie laughed softly at the amount of energy you still had in you. she felt completely exhausted. shopping was one of the things she disliked the most, especially during the holidays. still, she had fun.
maybe she didn’t hate shopping as much as she thought, or maybe your company would make her enjoy literally anything.
“wait,” ellie grabbed your arm and pulled you down, making you sit next to her. “aren’t you tired?”
“not really,” you shrugged your shoulders. “but we can rest for a bit if you want.”
“great,” she replied, crossing her arms and laying back on the bench again.
you copied her action, looking around the mall and paying extra attention to the lovely christmas decorations. you threw your head back, noticing something hanging above you.
mistletoe.
your eyes widened as you sat up straight, catching ellie’s attention. she turned her head to you, furrowing her eyebrows.
“you okay there?”
“uh, yeah. why?”
“you’re looking a little tense, that’s all.”
“i’m not tense, i’m just cold.” you made the mistake of shooting a quick glance at the mistletoe. ellie noticed, of course.
she tried her best to suppress a smile, but she failed miserably, “ah, i see.”
the way she looked at you caused a strange flutter in your stomach, which made you shift uncomfortably in your place.
“i’m not kissing you, ellie.”
“why not?”
her almost immediate question took you by surprise, “what do you mean why not?”
“i mean, why not?”
“i don’t know. you’re you.”
“yeah, and you’re you. you love christmas traditions.”
“you don’t. you said they were dumb.”
“yeah, but i’m not, like, totally opposed to them.”
you stayed quiet, staring into those green eyes of hers. your gaze wandered down to her lips and it lingered there for a moment before something else caught your attention.
“you have freckles,” you pointed out.
her eyes darted from your lips to your eyes, “you didn’t know?”
“this is the closest i’ve ever been to you.”
ellie’s mouth curved into a smile, wanting you to be even closer. she noticed the way your eyes were back on her lips, so she took it as a sign that you wanted it just as much as her.
it felt impossible for you to look away, you were completely enthralled by her. there was something pulling you closer to her, you couldn’t control it.
“for christmas’ sake, y’know?”
“you can’t keep using christmas as a way to manipulate me,” you whispered.
ellie took the initiative and leaned in first. you instantly closed your eyes at the contact, eyebrows slightly burrowed as you melted into the soft, slow kiss. it didn’t last long, but the sensation stayed with you after pulling away.
“um…” was all that you could say, eyes a bit widened.
ellie sent you a nervous smile, “you gotta respect christmas traditions, right?”
“right.”
on the drive back home the tension was palpable, but neither of you dared to mention the kiss again and acted as if nothing had happened. you certainly wouldn’t be the one to bring it up, so you tried your best to forget about it and trick your own mind into thinking it had been just an hallucination.
on the other hand, ellie couldn’t and wouldn’t stop replying the moment in her head. she wasn’t exactly sure if she had done the right thing, but she knew she didn’t regret it. not one thought crossed her mind in that moment, she didn’t think about what would happen next or what would your brother do if he found out. she went for it because that was what she had been wanting to do for a while.
on christmas morning, the house was dead quiet. everyone was still asleep, except for you and ellie. after making yourselves more presentable, you stepped out on the hallway at the same time. you almost gasped when you opened the door and ellie was right across from you, there was a similar expression on her face.
things had been awkward between you two. you didn’t ignore each other, but you didn’t talk as much as before. she had stopped making fun of you and you treated her more politely than you had ever done.
“good morning,” you softly said.
“hey,” she greeted with a half smile. “merry christmas.”
your eyebrows rose a little when you realized you had forgotten what day it was.
“right, merry christmas,” you grinned, fiddling with your fingers. “do you want to have breakfast?”
“sure, yeah.”
you both went downstairs and walked towards the kitchen, but ellie stopped by the living room. you turned around and watched her go to the christmas tree. she looked back at you, pointing at the wall where five christmas stockings were hung up. next to the one with your initial, there was one with an embroidered letter ‘E’.
“you bought me a stocking.”
“how’d you know it was me?”
ellie tilted her head to the side, “seriously? you’re like christmas personified.”
her compliment earned a soft giggle from you. you missed the adoring look she gave you when you looked down. it was hard to make you shy, which is why ellie felt over the moon when she accomplished it.
“thank you,” ellie gave a sincere smile, which faltered a little once she saw you trying to avoid eye contact. it had been that way ever since the kiss happened and it was driving her crazy.
“you’re welcome,” you grinned, looking into her eyes.
oh, ellie wasn’t ready for that. she felt her heart rate pathetically increase and she tried her best to look unaffected.
“we’re okay, right?” she awkwardly asked you.
“yes, why wouldn’t we be?”
“it’s just… it’s been kind of weird since, y’know, the kiss. i’m sorry if it bothered you, we can just forget it happened—”
iin that moment, the sound of your brother coming downstairs stopped you. you sent her an apologetic look before he barged in, loud as he always was.
“you didn’t open any presents yet, did you?” your brother asked you, narrowing his eyes at you.
“uh, no. we— we were waiting for you, guys,” you said just as your parents appeared.
you watched your family open their presents and tell you to open yours, but you were too busy thinking about your previous conversation with ellie. you glanced at her, hoping she would be already looking at you, but she wasn’t.
with a sigh, you grabbed a box from underneath the tree, one that had ellie’s name on it. you walked over to her and took her by her hand before discreetly dragging her out of the room.
“i’m sorry i’ve been acting weird, i guess i just— well, i—” you struggled to put together an actual sentence under ellie’s stare. she tilted her head to the side, waiting for you to continue. “god, don’t look at me like that.”
“why? do i make you nervous?” she taunted, a teasing grin spreading over her lips.
“ellie,” you complained, throwing your head back.
she laughed, “i’m sorry, i’m sorry.”
“dumbass,” you muttered, frowning. “what i’m trying to say is, i’m sorry. i should’ve been more upfront.”
“more upfront with what, exactly?”
“with how i feel.”
ellie’s breath hitched in her throat, “and how do you feel?”
“i like you.”
“you do?”
“yeah,” you gave her a smile. “unless you don’t like me back, then i don’t.”
ellie chuckled lightly and, without hesitation, she gently grabbed your face with one hand and brought you closer to her, giving you the kiss she had been dreaming about ever since your lips left hers at the mall.
your mind went blank, nothing else mattered. not the possibility of your family seeing you or the fact that kissing ellie would’ve been the worst thing imaginable a week back.
things had drastically changed.
you didn’t know when or why it happened exactly, but you seriously liked her. maybe when you saw how well she treated your parents, or how much she cared for your brother. maybe it was the way she looked at you whenever she made a joke to see if you’d laugh, or the fact that you shared practically the same taste in music.
there were many, many reasons for you to like her, yet you still couldn’t believe it was actually happening.
all of a sudden, you pulled away, leaving ellie with her lips puckered, “open your present.”
you placed the perfectly wrapped gift in between her hands, bragging about having wrapped it yourself since the guy from the store wasn’t very good at it.
you watched as ellie tried her best not to rip the wrapping paper and open it carefully.
“it’s okay if you rip it,” you clarified.
“no, you wrapped it.”
once she finally opened it, a smile began spreading across her lips. on her hands, there was a mug. it was similar to the one you had on your apartment, with different little and delicate drawings of cats. the only difference was that yours had details in dark red and hers in deep blue. there was also a handwritten card that read ‘i hope this becomes your favorite one (just so i can use it)’.
a laugh escaped her lips, rolling her eyes as she brought you in for a hug. “thank you, i love it.”
“yeah?”
“yup. i’ll keep using yours, though.”
“it’s fine, i’ll use yours.”

Teacher's Lounge

Another request! I'm thinking about not posting updates to anonymous requests, and instead just pasting said request in here? I'll tag you if you didn't ask anonymously. It's easier and more neat.
🍋‍🟩 Hear me out, Josh becoming a temporary teacher for film with his own office, he often let you study in there seeing as the campus didn’t have enough study space to accommodate everyone and you become quite overstimulated on a normal day (@b3rryb3t)
This is therefore maybe a teacher x student thing, but you're roughly the same age anyway (maybe 2 years difference), since he graduated before you and has already come out with his debut movie. You're still hanging out with the friend group as well.

It’s hard to find good reading spots on campus. My messy room could be an option, but I can’t get inspired there. I need different surroundings than what I’m used to. Booked rooms are a no-go, especially now that exams are coming closer. They’re always booked, and everyone uses them. I’ve tried going to the library, but if there’s room, the place is never quiet. The librarians don't care. I get it though, everyone is stressed, and the only place you can work on a group assignment is the library. You have to talk, you have to discuss. This means that I’m still left without a spot to study. I’ve tried other libraries, other cafes and even at my friends place. Nothing works. Maybe there’s something in the other buildings? Somewhere quiet where I’ll feel content.
The first building that comes to mind is the Teachers house. A large building with some group rooms and many small study sofas. Many of the teachers have offices there, but if I'm quiet, they won’t mind. These spots are usually also taken, but maybe I’ll have a chance if I’m quick.
I walk down the hall, stopping when I see the old abandoned office. This room is usually always empty, waiting for someone to inhabit it. But it’s not empty anymore. The previously collected dust is cleaned away, the wood door has a new furnish and a brand new slide-on plate reads a familiar name. Joshua Washington.
I widen my eyes in surprise, it cannot be. Why is he here? Didn’t he already finish his degree? He just finished his debut movie, which was excellent. I saw him at one of Emily’s parties too, which was not long ago. About three weeks. He looked good then, very good. Like he felt fulfilled and accomplished. He should feel good about himself. Not many people do that on their first big project. He did talk about a new job he got, but I assumed it was another film-related gig. Was this the job?
My curiosity gets the better of me, and I carefully knock three times. The sound is beautiful, hard and dark wood which doesn’t vibrate as I hit it. I wait, hearing shuffling and metal clinking inside.
“Um, yeah, come in!”
I open the door, holding the handle hard. If I was wrong, then this would be an awfully awkward encounter. The door glides easily without making any sound. They have really improved this place. He lifts his head, meeting my stare as he does. A smile creeps on his face, eyes lighting up by the sight. I stand still, mouth agape and furrowed brows. He’s really here.
“Well, if it isn’t my favorite student”
“You teach here?”
“As of this Monday, yes”
I close the door behind me, looking around the room. It’s cozy, filled with family pictures and a couple of movie posters. His diploma is also on the wall. On one surface are many small film trophies from his childhood, and in front of all of them, the price he got last year for his first debut Hollywood movie. I look around in awe, the yellow light making everything feel so professional and real.
“And by the way, I’m not your student, I take another course”
“That can’t stop me from stating that you’re in a superior’s office”
“How did you get this job?”
“They offered it to me”
“Just out of nowhere? You don’t have experience in teaching. You’re not even a professor”
“I guess my talent shines through”
I look at him and his smug face. He’s leaning back in the roller chair, feet upon his desk. Everything here is so neat, so unlike him. He also loves being able to joke like this, but honestly, I’m still surprised by the circumstances. He made one movie, and now, the university wanted him to teach a course?
“If I know you correctly, you’ll probably be fired by the next month”
“And why’s that?”
I take a seat in front of him, not surprised that the chair is lower than him. Oh, how he loves his power trips. The chair is comfortable, and suits the surroundings, but I feel small.
“Because you can’t keep your hands to yourself”
“That’s true”
“There’s only a question about time, when will you fuck one of your students, and when will you get caught”
He laughs, shaking his head as he fiddles with an expensive ball pen. He looks at me in disbelief, maybe a little surprised that I said exactly what I thought.
“Who’s to say I haven’t done it already?”
“One week into the job?”
“Maybe”
“You’re disgusting, Washington”
“That’s Mr. Washington to you” he corrects, pointing at me with the same pen. I smile at him, almost unable to hide my laughter.
“I’m not gonna start calling you that”
“Ugh, damn you”
A slight silence follows, and analyse his desk. Many, many pens, his laptop, a stack of papers and a couple of memory sticks. Again, everything is so neat. It makes me feel weird.
“By the way, I actually haven’t had a teacher-student relationship”
“You shouldn’t” I quickly shoot back. It would not be a good idea. Being in the filming industry is hard in itself, but he also has a shot of doing something more. This was not something to take lightly.
“At least not gonna with my own students”
“Jesus Chris Josh”
He laughs again, loving my overdramatic reactions. He knows what gets me to tip over, how to make me irritated and upset. Of course he’ll use it to his advantage.
“Anyways, what are you doing here? Isn’t your building on the other side of campus?”
I sigh loudly, leaning back in the chair and letting my head fall back. I’m tired, exhausted even. But just two more weeks, and I’ll be finished with the exams. My diploma isn’t far away.
“Trying to find a study spot, but everywhere is taken”
“Why don’t you just use your dorm?”
“Easy for you to say, you never lived in one”
He leans back, furrowing his brows and being deep in thought.
“You could sit here?”
I look up, surprised by the offer. Is that even okay, am I, as a student, allowed to do that? I think about it, the place is quiet, cozy and a completely different atmosphere than usual. It could work.
“Can I?”
“Of course, it wouldn't be the first time you’ve been in my quarters” he teases, leaning back over the desk.
“Haha, very funny, but are you serious?”
“Yeah, I mean, my students usually don’t come here, too busy actually understanding the material, compared to some” he points at me and my backpack. I roll my eyes.
“Well, if getting my degree consisted of knowing the on and off button of a camera, I would excel at it”
“Careful, or you might not get to study here”
“Okay, okay, sorry. You’re an accomplished producer and teacher who’s totally awesome”
“And you have to call me Mr. Washington”
I scoff at his request, shaking my head. He’s still smiling, biting casually into his lower lip.
“I draw the line there”
“Fine”
I take up my laptop, immediately starting to type. This was gonna be great. Might have some negative effects though. We’ve got a history. Too much time spent together has usually led to more uncivilised activities, but that’s not something I have to worry about now.
***
The weeks pass, and I truly enjoy his company, even if it’s in silence. He’s busy grading papers and making schedules. I’m prepping for my exams, writing, reading, and memorising. Everything was going great, and the day of the exam finally came.
I took one look over the questions, and my heart fell. What the hell was this? I did my best, drawing out a mind map to help me refresh my memory. It actually went quite well, if I do say so myself. Not the best, but I’m definitely not failing.
I walk down the hall yet again, not bothering to knock on Josh’s door. His head rises, noticing my presence, and he smiles. God I love how he smiles.
“So, how did it go?”
I close the door, biting my lip as I turn to face him again. He looks up expectantly, eyes big and round. He rises, walking around the desk to face me.
“It went great!” I blurt out excitedly, arms going out. He smiles, meeting me in a hug as I throw my arms around him. His hands go to my waist, pulling me closer against him. I bury my face in his neck, warm skin against mine, smelling his expensive cologne.
“See, you just needed a place to study”
“I indeed did”
We break apart a little, arms still holding tight so none of us leaves. He leans in, eyes lowering to my lips. I know what’s about to happen, it has happened a million times before. In his bedroom, a couple of random bathrooms, the mountain lodge, but never in an office. My finger finds its way to his lips, stopping him in his tracks.
“Mr. Washington, what do you think you’re doing?”
“Just celebrating” he whispers against my finger, hand going up to take it away. He finds his way to the back of my head, tangling in my hair as he pulls me closer.
“You can get in trouble”
“Never stopped us before”
His breath feels hot against my skin, head getting dizzy and body warmer. How long were we going to keep this thing alive?
“Fuck it” I whisper against him, capturing his lips on mine.

————————————————————————
Christmas Eve dawned on the house, and as soon as the house awakened, excitement and joy immediately lit the house throughout each room. Lisa’s kitchen felt like the heart of the house, beating warm and alive, with an aroma that wafted through the house, every surface serving a purpose as she began cooking the dishes, getting everything for the feast set to ensue later. The counters were a cluttered symphony of ingredients, flour-dusted bowls, glass jars of different herbs and spices, and a large array of serving dishes and other equipment. The oven hummed, working overtime while the gas stoves remained alight with several pots atop, as trays of stuffing and casseroles exchanged places. Lisa moved with the confidence of a seasoned cook, wielding her wooden spoon like a wand.
You, Emma and Ben, had weaved in and out throughout the day, helping clean up the kitchen or assisting in tasting and aiding in preparing some of the dishes. Still, truly Lisa seemed to have it under control, especially with all the prep you both had done the other day. Now it was more a case of gossiping and talking, keeping company while the minutes ticked away while Ben got shooed away to set up the large dining table and the kid's table for dinner.
Emma leaned against the counter, sneaking a piece of carrot from the chopping board while Lisa’s back was turned. “Caught you. Down, girl,” Lisa said without even looking, and Emma’s hand froze mid-air.
“Dang it,” Emma muttered, popping the stolen piece into her mouth anyway. “You’ve got eyes in the back of your head.”
“Mother’s intuition,” Lisa replied, her tone amused as she sprinkled paprika over a bubbling dish. Then, she turned to you. “You keeping her in check?”
You raised both hands in mock surrender. “She’s a free spirit. What am I to do, Lis?”
Emma giggled, linking her arm through yours. “Come on, let’s get ready before Mom ropes us into something else.”
In Emma’s room, Christmas jumpers were laid out on her bed like a festive fashion show. “We’ve got options for the both of us, but you have to wear a Christmas jumper - no escape,” she declared, holding up two hangers.
One featured a fluffy snowman surrounded by tiny, twinkling LED lights; the other was a maroon sweater adorned with white snowflakes and reindeer. “Which one says ‘I’m the life of the party, but also an excellent gift recipient’?”
You laughed, pointing to the reindeer sweater. “Definitely this one.”
She handed it to you before holding up another for herself, a green jumper with a cheerful Santa Claus and jingling bells stitched onto the sleeves. “Perfect,” she declared. “Let’s get festive.”
As you pulled on the sweater and paired it with a sweet black pleated skirt, you glanced at yourself in the mirror and couldn’t help but smile. It was cozy and just the right amount of ridiculous. You pulled your hair back and did light makeup, just blush and concealer and a touch of mascara. Emma, already fully dressed, fluffed her hair and tugged you into a selfie. “Documenting this for the archives,” she said, sticking out her tongue.
The two of you headed back downstairs, where Ben was crouched by the Christmas tree, adjusting the gifts as he snuck his Secret Santa present there too. He stood up as you entered, his eyes lighting up when he saw you. His own jumper, a deep red one with white reindeer, matched yours almost exactly.
Emma burst out laughing. “You two look like you planned this!”
“We didn’t!” you protested, feigning annoyance though your cheeks burned as Ben looked at you, his smile widening.
“Could’ve fooled me,” he said, tugging at his sleeve. “Guess great minds think alike.”
Back in the kitchen, Bryan had just returned, jingling his keys as he carried in a bag filled with snacks.
“Got the goods!” he announced, setting the bag down on the counter. “And before anyone asks, yes, I did mean to buy candy canes the day before Christmas.”
“Uh-huh,” Lisa said, arching an eyebrow. She reached into the bag and pulled out a pack of marshmallows. “And these were on the list?”
“Essential for s'mores,” Bryan said, unrepentant. Then, leaning closer to Lisa, he added in a low voice, “I stopped by the PO Box.”
Lisa smirked knowingly. “Last-minute gift retrieval?”
“Shh,” Bryan replied, holding a finger to his lips as he glanced at you and Emma. “Not a word.”
“Don’t worry,” Emma said, her tone dripping with faux innocence. “Your secret’s safe with us…for now.”
As Bryan moved past you, he clapped a hand on Ben’s shoulder. “You all set up here, kid?”
“Mostly,” Ben replied. He gestured to the table with a sweeping hand. “You want to check my work?”
Bryan squinted at the table like a coach assessing a play. “Not bad, not bad. You might have a future in hospitality if this tennis thing doesn't work out, son.”
Ben rolled his eyes, a grin tugging at his lips. “Good to know I’ve got options.”
As the sun began to set, the kitchen became a flurry of activity. Lisa transferred dishes to serving platters while Emma handled the gravy, stirring it with exaggerated care while you got the cranberry sauce ready. “Gotta keep the lumps out,” she said, winking at you.
Bryan circled back, snagging a piece of bread from the cutting board and earning a sharp “Bryan!” from Lisa.
“What? Quality control,” he defended, chewing unabashedly. Then he turned to you. “By the way, you’re fitting in around here like you’ve been part of the family for years. Good job surviving this lot.”
“Thanks,” you replied with a laugh. “I’m enjoying every chaotic minute.”
Bryan smiled warmly, and for a moment, the teasing glint in his eyes softened as he pat your back. “We’re glad to have you here. Really.”
Ben leaned against the counter beside you, brushing your shoulder with his. “Told you they’d love you,” he said quietly.
Your chest warmed as you turned to him, your voice soft. “Guess I’m just lucky to have the best companion.”
Ben smirked, nudging you lightly. “Please, lucky’s an understatement.”
“Alright, you three,” Lisa called, pointing her spoon at you, Ben and Emma as you stood near the cabinets. “The nice plates and cutlery are in the top drawer, and the good cups are wrapped in the linen closet. Don’t break anything.”
Emma rolled her eyes with a grin, nudging you. “She acts like we’re five. Come on, let’s make this table look like a magazine spread.”
The two of you dug out the plates, admiring the intricate designs that only ever came out for Christmas. Emma carried the stack carefully, while you followed with the silverware and cups, setting them down on the dining table where Ben was already arranging the candles and centrepiece.
“Keep it neat, Benny,” Emma teased as she set the plates down. “This isn’t your tennis playstyle; exactness matters.”
Ben shot her a playful glare, adjusting a placemat just to spite her. “Precision’s my speciality, Em. You’re lucky I’m not measurin' angles here.”
You chuckled, shaking your head as you placed forks and knives neatly beside the plates. The three of you worked in unison, the table gradually transforming into a picture-perfect setup with now lit candles, a centrepiece of poinsettias, and a sprinkling of gold and red decor.
As the sun dipped low, the food was plated onto the good dishes and placed in warming trays, bowls and serving trays, the kitchen alive with the clatter of lids and Lisa’s cheerful humming. Bryan returned to the rest of you, a sheepish smile plastered on his face after swiftly tossing his Secret Santa gift beneath the tree.
With the house organised and ready it wasn't long before the family began to arrive.
The door opened to a flood of warmth and sound. Aunts and uncles piled in with cheerful exclamations, small children rowdy and excited darting through your legs, and laughter filled the space as Ben’s family began their Christmas Eve takeover. The smell of cookies, pine, and faint notes of perfume wafted in with them, making the house feel even cozier.
Ben and Emma led the welcoming committee, diving into hugs and playful jabs like they’d been waiting all year for this moment. You followed closely, feeling the contagious energy of their enthusiasm.
One of Ben’s aunts, her arms full of baked goods, set them down to pull you into a tight hug. “Oh, so you’re the one,” she said with a knowing smile. “Ben’s talked about you nonstop. We were beginning to think you weren’t real!”
“I’m real, I promise,” you replied, laughing as she squeezed you again.
Ben’s grandmother was next, her soft hands wrapping around yours as she studied you closely. Her eyes crinkled with warmth. “Well, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes,” she said, her drawl wrapping around the words like a melody. “This boy better be treatin’ you right.”
“Oh, he is, it's a pleasure to finally meet you,” you assured her, feeling your cheeks warm under her kind gaze.
Ben appeared behind you, throwing an arm around his grandmother’s shoulders. “Nana, you’re embarrassing me,” he teased, though the fondness in his tone was unmistakable.
“Good,” she shot back, giving his arm a light slap before turning back to you, squeezing your hand tight before letting go. “We’ll talk more later, sweetheart.”
The uncles were just as welcoming, their handshakes firm and accompanied by wide grins. One leaned in conspiratorially, muttering, “If Ben’s giving you any trouble, let me know. I’ve got plenty of stories that’ll keep him humble.”
“Noted,” you said, unable to suppress your giggles.
Before long, the younger cousins made their presence known. They were a whirlwind of energy, zipping through the living room like tiny tornados. One darted behind you hiding, clearly using you as an advantage for a game of tag, giggling maniacally as another launched themselves at Ben, wrapping their arms around his waist.
“Ben!” the little one squealed.
“Oh no, not again,” Ben groaned dramatically, lifting the child effortlessly and perching them on his shoulders. “Alright, who’s next? Form a line!”
Three more cousins swarmed him, clambering up his legs and giggling as he tried to fend them off with mock protests. “I’m not a jungle gym!” he shouted, though his wide smile betrayed him.
You watched from the side, laughing at the chaos. One cousin paused mid-sprint to look up at you with curious eyes. “Are you his girlfriend?”
Before you could answer, Emma swooped in. “She’s our new favourite family member,” she said with a wink, ushering the little one back into the fray.
Dinner was nothing short of a spectacle. The dining table stretched to its limit, every inch covered with dishes that looked like they’d been lifted from the pages of a holiday cookbook. Platters of turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cornbread vied for space with glasses of sparkling cider and wine.
Lisa stood at the head of the table, raising her hands to gather everyone’s attention. “Alright, everyone,” she said, her voice calm but commanding. “Before we dig in, let’s join hands for a quick prayer.”
You reached for the hands nearest to you, finding Ben’s warm grip on one side and his grandmother’s gentle hold on the other. The room quieted as Lisa spoke.
“Dear Lord,” she began, her voice steady and heartfelt. “Thank you for this family, for this meal, and for the blessing of being together on this special night. May we remember the joy of giving, the love that binds us, and the hope that tomorrow brings. Amen.”
“Amen,” echoed through the room, and then the feast began.
The meal was a lively affair, filled with overlapping conversations, clinking glasses, and occasional bursts of laughter. Ben’s younger cousins, who had temporarily calmed down enough to eat, couldn’t resist sneaking off with a plate of sugar cookies halfway through dinner. They reappeared moments later with suspiciously sweet-smelling fingers and wide-eyed innocence.
Ben caught them red-handed. “Hey! Those are for dessert, y'all are some sneaky lil-!” he feigned anger, chasing them around the table while the rest of the family laughed.
"He always finds a way to sneak back to the kid's table, huh?" one voice laughed.
Bryan just shook his head, pretending to be disappointed as he took a deep sigh, "Every year..."
Once everyone had eaten their fill, the group naturally drifted to the living room, bunching up together. The kids wasted no time sprawling across the carpet in front of the TV, eyes glued to the animated version of The Grinch that played on the screen while milk, cookies and other sweet treats were shared amongst them. Their giggles punctuated the festive chatter, pillows and blankets passed between them like treasures.
The adults, meanwhile, settled into clusters around the room, the cozy couches and armchairs filling quickly. Ben was at the centre of one group, effortlessly juggling questions about his career with that easy charm of his.
“So, what’s next for you, big shot?” one of his uncles teased, though the pride in his voice was unmistakable. “Still aiming for top 10?”
Ben leaned back against the couch, his posture relaxed but attentive. His arm rested along the back of the cushion behind you, a subtle but comforting presence.
“That’s the plan. It’s been a good year so far, but next season’s gonna be a whole new level. A lot of travel, a lot of long days, but I’m ready for it.”
Another uncle nodded approvingly. “As long as you’re enjoying it,” he said, his tone warm. “That’s what matters. Doesn’t hurt that you’re putting our name on the map, either.”
Ben smiled, the corners of his mouth lifting with quiet pride. “Yeah, it’s been fun. It’s a lot of work, but honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
One of his aunts, sitting on the edge of a loveseat nearby, chimed in. “Well, it’s been amazing watching you shine, Ben. Just make sure you’re taking care of yourself too.”
“I’ve got that covered,” Ben assured her, his eyes briefly flicking to you. “It helps to have good people around to keep me grounded.”
The conversation naturally shifted, as all eyes subtly turned toward you. It wasn’t sudden or forced, just a gentle pivot, like a tide rolling in.
Ben’s aunt leaned forward slightly, her expression curious but kind.
“So,” she began, her eyes twinkling with curiosity, “what’s it been like being with Ben? I mean, being with someone who’s on the road so much, always on tour. That’s gotta be… a lot on your shoulders too, sweetheart.”
Ben glanced at you, his expression softening in quiet encouragement as if to say, It’s okay, be honest.
“It definitely has its challenges,” you admitted. “There’s a lot of planning and juggling schedules, but honestly, it’s worth it. Ben has a way of making every moment feel important, even if we don’t get as much time together as we’d like. Quality time over the quantity of time, y'know?”
One of the uncles grinned knowingly, his voice teasing but kind. “Sounds like our Benny’s doing something right for a change.”
Ben rolled his eyes, but the corner of his mouth twitched in amusement. “You’re not wrong,” he quipped, earning a round of laughter from the group.
Another voice chimed in, tone pensive. “I can imagine it takes patience. And maybe even a little creativity? It's not like you can always go out or be public, goodness...”
You nodded, humming in agreeance. “Exactly. But it helps that he’s so passionate about what he does. It’s easy to root for someone when you see how much they love what they’re doing. And we're both good at making time for each other and communicating, it works out well.”
“She’s been good around here, huh?” one of the uncles said, gesturing toward you. “Lis, I don’t think we’ve seen you this relaxed in a long time.”
Lisa raised an eyebrow, looking mock-offended. “Excuse me, I am the epitome of relaxed all the time.”
Bryan, returning from the kitchen with a plate of s'mores for the kids, snorted. “Mmhmm, sure you are.”
Lisa waved him off but smiled warmly, her gaze landing on you. “She’s been a breath of fresh air, that’s for sure. I don’t know how Ben managed to talk her into coming down here to spend it with us, but I’m glad he did.”
Ben’s grandmother nodded in agreement, breaking into a gentle smile. “Me too,” she said, her voice soft but firm. “It’s been lovely having you here with us. How’s it been, spending the holidays with all of us? We can be a little… energetic.”
The warmth in the room was palpable, and you felt your cheeks heat at the attention. “Thank you,” you said, your voice earnest. “It’s been incredible. I think I’ve been smiling nonstop since I got here. Everyone’s been so welcoming, it really feels like being part of something special.”
A ripple of murmured appreciation and smiles went around the room, and one of Ben’s uncles, seated with a glass of cider in hand, grinned broadly. “Well, that’s good to hear. We don’t exactly do quiet, but we do a whole lotta love.”
“It shows,” you replied, a genuine smile on your face. “It’s a good kind of chaos. It’s been easy to feel at home.”
The kids erupted into another round of laughter, their voices catching the attention of the room as one tried to mimic the Grinch’s dramatic sly walk, much to the delight of the other children. Their antics drew the group’s attention for a moment, lightening the mood even further.
Ben's hand found its way to your shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze. His voice filled with pride but just above a whisper. “You okay?” His gaze held yours, steady and sincere.
You turned to him, your smile growing softer. “Yeah,” you said quietly, just for him. “Better than okay.”
He smiled that private little grin that was just for you, and gave your shoulder another reassuring squeeze and a pressing kiss to your temple before turning back to the room. His arm stayed where it was, a silent claim and sign of pride.
As the conversation dropped into a story time of some incident earlier this month you took a moment or two to just sit there surrounded by laughter, chatter, and warmth, feeling entirely at peace. It wasn’t just Ben, it was the family, the energy, and the way they opened their home and hearts to you. You glanced at him again, finding him already looking at you, and you couldn’t help but think, this feels like home.
The room quieted slightly as the conversation dwindled down, which prompted Bryan to stand and clap his hands once, the sound cutting through the chatter. “Alright, everyone, settle down, I think it’s Secret Santa time!”
The announcement was met with cheers, laughter, and some playful groans from the kids, who had long forgone the Grinch and were more interested in a game of play-fighting each other and bouncing on the couch. Lisa emerged from the kitchen with a tray of hot cocoa for the younger ones, while the adults pulled their chairs closer into a semi-circle around the Christmas tree.
“Okay,” Bryan started, grabbing a gift and reading the tag, “this one’s for… Em!”
Emma squealed in delight and scrambled forward, nearly tripping over one of the little cousins who stuck themselves out last minute. She took the neatly wrapped gift from Bryan’s hands, plopped down cross-legged in front of the tree, and tore into it with dramatic flair.
“Oh my gosh!” she shrieked, holding up a beautiful matching outdoor all-weather jacket set, one for her and Halo, alongside a bracelet and dog collar. The colours complemented Halo’s coat perfectly, and there was even a little charm engraved with Halo’s name. “This is so cute, all I put on my wishlist was somethin' for me 'n Halo, who did this?”
You raised your hand a little shy. “That’d be me.”
Emma’s pout was instant and exaggerated, but her eyes sparkled. “You! You’re too good at this!” She bolted up, practically leaping at you as she enveloped you in a tight hug. Her lips pressed a loud, playful kiss to your cheek before she pulled back. “Seriously, this is the best. Thank you!” She immediately began calling Halo over to try on his new gift, beaming with excitement.
Bryan reached for the next present, his grin wide. “Alright, next up… this one’s for Ben.”
Ben took the box with an exaggerated bow, earning laughter and applause. He made a show of shaking it next to his ear, grinning mischievously. “Hmm, feels important,” he teased, glancing at you like you might give something away.
“Just open it, drama king,” Emma called, rolling her eyes.
Ben tore the wrapping away, revealing a sleek black journal and a beautifully designed scratch-off world map. His smile softened as he turned the journal over in his hands, fingers grazing the cover. “This is perfect,” he said, his voice quieter now. He looked around the room, his expression genuinely touched. “I’ve been wanting something like this, I'll do a review on tour and write it down. Thank you, secret Santa.”
“You're welcome,” Lisa admitted, raising her hand with a proud smile. “I figured you could use it for your next season. Better than the normal bunch I get you.”
Ben crossed the room in a few strides, leaning down to kiss his mom on the cheek. “You nailed it,” he said, his gratitude evident.
The next few rounds brought a mix of hilarity and sentimentality. One uncle unwrapped a set of novelty socks featuring flamingos in Santa hats, which sent the room into fits of laughter. An older cousin received a set of gourmet spice blends for their newly discovered love of cooking. One of the younger kids was delighted with a jellycat plushie and various popular blind-boxes, which they immediately hugged to their chest.
Finally, Bryan reached for the gift labelled with your name. “This one’s for you,” he said, handing it over with a grin.
You took the gift, noticing the impeccable wrapping job. “Someone had this done professionally,” you teased, shaking the box gently before pulling at the tape. The room watched eagerly as you opened it, revealing a beautifully curated gift set: an engraved charm bracelet and a luxurious throw blanket in your favourite colour.
“Wow,” you murmured, touched by the thoughtfulness. You glanced up after a few seconds, your eyes scanning the room until they landed on Bryan, who was sitting suspiciously still, legs crossed, a smile tugging at his lips as he tried to cover his mouth from giving him away.
“Bryan!” you exclaimed, laughing as you stood. His wide grin gave him away immediately. "Terrible poker face."
“Guilty,” he admitted, rising to meet your hug. His arms wrapped warmly around you, and he pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “Glad you like it.”
“Like it? I love it!” you said, squeezing him back before sitting down again.
As the gifts continued to be opened, the room filled with laughter and joy. Lisa’s gift, a handmade quilt stitched with everyone’s names, earned her a round of applause, while Ben’s grandmother unwrapped a stunning piece of holiday artwork for her mantle, bringing tears to her eyes.
By the time the final gift was opened, everyone was either laughing, hugging, or marvelling at the thoughtfulness of the night, not one present unappreciated. It was pure magic, exactly the kind of warmth and connection that made this holiday unforgettable.
It wasn't long before the well-loved karaoke machine turned into the centrepiece of the late evening. After the initial warm-up of Feliz Navidad with you, Ben, and Emma leading the mission to get everyone in the mood, the night unfolded with a lively lineup of songs. Bryan’s spirited Jingle Bell Rock performance had everyone laughing and clapping, his dramatic hip wiggles earning him a standing ovation from the kids. Lisa’s O Holy Night was a showstopper; her voice soared so beautifully that even the little ones paused their antics to listen momentarily.
The room erupted into applause when she finished, with Bryan dramatically wiping away a fake tear and declaring, “That’s my wife!”
Throughout it all the kids, despite their sugar highs, began to wear down with a sugar crash. One by one, they started curling up on couches, leaning against older cousins, or lying on the plush carpet in front of the tree. Ben surprised everyone with a charmingly off-key rendition of Last Christmas, dedicating it to you while his family howled in laughter when he purposefully butchered the high notes.
“Don’t quit your day job, son,” Bryan teased, throwing a decorative pillow at him.
“Oh, I think I nailed it,” Ben shot back, winking at you as he handed the microphone off to the next brave soul.
You even found yourself roped into a duet with Emma, an upbeat version of Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, earning a cheer when you both ended with exaggerated bows and somehow, tinsel garlands around your necks like scarves. The energy in the room shifted to a more relaxed hum as the night wore on. Conversations grew quieter, and laughter turned softer as the clock ticked closer to midnight.
By the time the last notes of karaoke faded, the practical task of winding down the house began. Air mattresses were pulled from closets and inflated in the living room for the family staying over. Emma tossed pillows and blankets onto each one, laughing when Ben dropped onto one mattress dramatically, testing its bounce like a kid.
“Ben, you’re gonna pop that thing!” Lisa called from the kitchen, her voice holding a mix of amusement and warning.
The others slowly began to filter out, gathering their coats and wishing everyone a cheerful goodnight and a Merry Christmas. Hugs were exchanged at the door, the promise of seeing each other bright and early the next morning lingering in the air.
The house finally quieted as only the immediate family remained on their feet.
Together, you, Ben, Lisa, Bryan, and Emma tackled the cleanup. Dishes clinked in the sink as Bryan dried them off while Lisa packed leftovers into tupperware with precision. You and Emma worked side by side, wiping down the counters and collecting the last of the wrapping paper scattered near the tree.
“Teamwork makes the dream work,” Emma quipped, passing you another wet cloth.
Ben appeared behind you, reaching for the glasses you’d just dried. “Or at least keeps us from being here until morning,” he added, flashing you a quick grin.
As the final crumbs were swept and the house was put back in order, you found yourself in the kitchen with Ben. He leaned against the counter, his phone in hand, its faint glow casting a soft light across his face. When he caught a glimpse of you, his brows unfurrowed as he quickly tucked his phone back into his pocket.
“Caught you,” you teased, stepping closer. “Being sneaky again?”
“Maybe... just trust me, alright? You’ll see soon enough.”
You tilted your head, pretending to scrutinize him. “You’re lucky tonight was perfect, or I might press you for answers.”
“Perfect, huh?” He pushed off the counter and closed the space between you, his hands brushing yours before settling gently on your waist. “So, my crazy family didn’t scare you off?”
“Not even close,” you murmured, smiling up at him. “They’re wonderful. Tonight was… everything.”
His eyes softened, and he leaned down, pressing a lingering kiss to your forehead. “I’m so glad you’re here with me.”
The clock above the stove caught your eye as it ticked past midnight. A small laugh escaped you. “Ben,” you said, nudging him gently, “it’s officially Christmas!”
He caught a glimpse of the clock, his eyes wide as a smile broke out on his face.
“Merry Christmas,” you mumbled before the moment could pass, he leaned down and kissed you, a soft, unhurried kiss that made the world outside of this moment melt away.
When you finally pulled back, his forehead rested gently against yours, his hand cradling your face, breath warm as it mingled with yours. For a moment, neither of you said anything, the hum of the dishwasher and the faint creak of the settling house the only sounds around you.
His hands slid down to yours, fingers intertwining as he pulled back just enough to look into your eyes. “Thank you,” he murmured, his voice low and sincere. “For being here. For everything.”
You smiled softly, giving his hands a gentle squeeze. “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
The warmth between you was all-encompassing, as though the world had shrunk down to just this kitchen, just this moment. The kitchen remained as the heart of the home, and your heart was here, holding you in his arms, eyes boring into yours with an immeasurable amount of love for you. His thumb brushed across your knuckles as his lips curved into a quiet, contented smile.
From the living room, a faint rustle sounded as Emma and Lisa talked their quiet laughter a reminder of the family still tucked away nearby. The twinkling Christmas lights cast a soft glow over the house, and in the stillness, everything felt whole.
Ben leaned in again, pressing another kiss to your forehead, his voice barely above a whisper. “Merry Christmas,” he said once more, as though savouring the words.
“Merry Christmas,” you echoed, the words wrapping around you both like a blanket. Together, you stood there a moment longer, letting the night settle into your hearts before finally, hand in hand, you turned off the last of the lights and let the warmth of the day carry you both forward.

hm. what a weird way to end...right?...

My concept for a cozy Legend of Zelda game (details below)
I love Zelda games so so much, from Twilight Princess to Breath of the Wild, but here’s the thing: they always end before I can properly enjoy the comforts of Hyrule! I want to farm pumpkins and build a house and do side quests while not having to fight off bokoblins every thirty seconds. (I am bad at the fight things…)
So I propose a Zelda cozy game! Set after a traditional Ganon fight or apocalypse or what have you, this Link and Zelda actually get to live in a peaceful Hyrule. You still play as Link (or perhaps in a co op mode you could play Link and Zelda) but you get to build your home, farm crops and sell them, do fun side quests, and explore to your heart’s content. And maybe—just maybe—you can pet the dogs. Maybe even adopt some. 👀
And who knows? Maybe there’s companions who helped you in the battle who would love a visit from their friend. Or perhaps Zelda has work to do rebuilding and reconnecting the people of Hyrule, and Link is needed as her protector. There’s plenty of story available and plenty of good character relationships to build. But in between those beats, you can go home to your cottage, make a pot of pumpkin soup, and curl up in bed with your puppy. Sounds ideal, right?
Anyway, I’m just a little mad we don’t get to hang out in post-Calamity Hyrule in Breath of the Wild… So I came up with this to compensate. Thoughts?

dreams | rhett abbott x reader
summary: rhett asks if reader ever wants to move out of their apartment, and before either of them know it, they’re planning out a future together.
word count: ~1.4k
warnings: tooth-rotting fluff, my usual in depth cuddle descriptions because i am not normal, rhett getting to feel loved uwu, rhett being romantic because he IS i just know
a/n: this was completely unplanned, i was just yearning so hard an entire fic fell out
Tumblr media
You’re curled up against Rhett’s chest, his cheek resting against the top of your head as he idly trails his fingers up and down the length of your spine.
“You ever think about leaving this place?” he asks.
“Wabang?”
“No.” A chuckle. “Well, yeah. But I just meant the apartment.” You hum in understanding, fingertips idly dancing along his side.
“Yeah. I wouldn’t mind living in a bigger place. Maybe a house someday.”
“Any chance I’m in that house with you?”
“Of course you are. There’s a little spot for you to curl up at the foot of my bed and everything.” Laughter rumbles in his chest and he leans down to nip harmlessly at the shell of your ear.
“Mean.”
You giggle and hide your face against his chest. He can feel you smiling against his skin. Despite your transgression, Rhett reaches up to play with your hair and you let out a contented sigh.
“There’s no house without you in it,” you say after a moment. It catches him a little off guard. Sure, he likes to think he plays a part in your fantasies about the future, but it’s something else to hear that he’s a fixture in them. Something clenches near his heart–– a beautiful ache that comes from a missing piece sliding home.
“Tell me more about it?” he asks, feeling suddenly a little vulnerable. You nose affectionately at his chest and pull him a little closer
“It’s got a lot of light. It’s big, but not too big, like, you can’t get lost in it. We wouldn’t need that kind of space. Mostly it just feels open and bright, you know? Lots of sun. Our bedroom has its own bathroom so I can listen to you sing to yourself in the shower.” Rhett lets out a quiet snort.
“Thought you did that anyway.”
“Yeah but now I can do it lying down. It’s a game changer.”
You’re funny, Rhett thinks. People don’t notice that enough. “Anyway, as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted…” Your head bobs a little with his gentle laughter.
“Go on.”
“We have a big ol’ bathtub–– one where we both fit.”
“Sexy.” He can’t help himself. You pinch his side, but he can still feel you smiling..
“We have a big yard. Maybe even big enough to keep horses, if you wanted.”
“What about a dog?”
“Well we’d have to get two, so they can have a friend.”
“Agreed.”
“What about you? What are you adding?” Rhett thinks for a moment.
“Nice deck. Rocking chairs or a porch swing so we can sit out and watch the stars at night.” You let out a happy little sound, and he can tell you’re picturing it. “Lots of blankets out there. You can get nice n’ cozy and I’ll bring us out hot toddies.” Rhett knows he’s not playing exactly by the rules of the game, but he’s starting to get lost in the idea of a future with you–– one that you seem to already be counting on. “The dogs like to sit by our feet. At least one of ‘em’s too big to sit in your lap, but you let ‘em anyway because you’re soft on ‘em.” He smiles. “Guess I probably am, too.”
You’ve always loved Rhett’s voice. It’s sexy as hell, sure, but it’s also unbelievably calming. Paired with his arms wrapped around you, it’s positively lethal. But he’s so wrapped up in the fantasy you two are creating, he doesn’t notice the way your breathing evens out or your grip on his waist starts to slacken.
“Once it gets too cold we head inside and you tell me just to leave the mugs in the sink because you don’t wanna go up to the bedroom by yourself even if it’s just for a few minutes. Our bedroom is big, but it’s cozy. You picked out most of the furniture but you always tell everyone I helped. I built our bed frame, though. You like to brag about that.” He knows he’s right because you still tell everyone you know about the end table he made for your living room last year. When he starts speaking again, he hardly realizes what he’s saying. It just starts to flow out of him.
“I ask you to marry me in that bed. I got a ring and a proposal all planned out but you have to go and look so beautiful one night that my plans go right out the window. I take you out for a walk like I was going to, though, and get down on one knee. You don’t even let me get up, you practically tackle me to the ground saying yes again. Maybe we get married out in the yard or we find some place pretty to go. But I think the ceremony happens outside; that feels right. We make Amy the flower girl even if she’s not a kid anymore. I’m crying the whole damn time and I don’t care who sees. You hold my hand even if we’re not supposed to.” He isn’t sure if that’s a rule–– he thinks maybe it isn’t–– but he knows you’d break it if there was one.
“I know we haven’t talked about kids, but…” Finally Rhett catches himself. “Well, I guess I’m getting a little carried away, there, huh?” For the first time in several minutes, he realizes you haven’t said a word. He nudges his nose against the crown of your head. “Sweetheart?” You shift a little bit, saying nothing. Rhett can’t help but laugh when he realizes you’ve fallen asleep. He leans back just enough to drag his thumb gently underneath your eye. “Sweetheart,” he tries again, a little louder.
“Mmm?” The sheets rustle as you start to wake, the sounds of a slow inhale as it fills your lungs. “Rhett?”
“Hey, sleepyhead,” and he thinks that maybe he’s never loved you so much as he does now. It’s not the first time he’s felt it–– he falls more in love with you every damn day. But his chest is full of something honey-thick, and warm. Your groggy expression is the sweetest thing he’s ever seen. “Think you fell asleep.” You blink some of the sleep from your eyes.
“Oh fuck!” you swear through a yawn. Your eyes seem bigger than ever when you peer up at him apologetically. “I’m sorry, baby. It’s just you were playing with my hair and your voice is so soothing and––”
“It’s okay,” he says softly, “it was kinda cute.”
“No, but I wanna hear what you were saying!”
“You’re tired, honey. Let’s go to sleep and I’ll tell you in the morning.”
“No,” you say, wiggling out of his embrace and sitting up. “I wanna hear everything. No details skipped.” Rhett only smiles up at you, expression growing mischievous, lips sealed tight.
“Here,” you say, oblivious to the fact that he’d do anything you asked. “You can put your head in my lap. I’ll play with your hair. But you have to tell me everything I missed.” He chuckles and tucks his head against your thigh. His eyes flutter shut and a happy sigh leaves him as you begin to card your fingers through his hair.
“Where’d I lose you?”
“I let the big dogs sit on my lap.” He grins up at you, eyes peeking open.
“Oh good, so you missed the proposal.” You freeze.
“The what?”
“You heard me.” And the smug bastard has the nerve to shut his eyes again, settling back into your lap.
“Rhett Abbott, you open your eyes right now.”
“Hmm… nope.” You tug at his hair but he just lets out a contented groan. He can’t see you glaring at him, and it’s hard to keep it up when your heart is threatening to melt down into nothing and kill you. You think that maybe you’ve never loved Rhett as much as you do in this very moment.
“Did you mean it?” you ask, voice suddenly small. Rhett opens his eyes, expression serious now.
“Yeah, I did.”
“And you’re not even gonna tell me?” you cry. He smiles and turns his head to press a kiss against your tummy.
“I’ll tell you everything else. I promise. But some things ought to be a surprise, don’t you think?” You let out a huff, but it’s all fondness.
“Okay, so I’m a pushover with the dogs, and?”
“You leave the mugs in the sink overnight because you can’t stand to be without me, even for a second.” You give him a look, but you know it’s true.
Luckily, if everything goes to plan, you won’t have to.

A/N: Apologies for being late to the Christmas Party, you guys. I ✨almost✨ abandoned this fic in the swamp, but I’m glad I went back and read it tonight with fresh eyes. Ken’s been trying to get me to finish it for days. Anyways, enjoy a little reunion fic bc late Saturday nights are for Danny smut, apparently (I don’t make the rules).
Bajabule,
-Han
As you moved about the kitchen, straightening the countertops and wiping them down, you found yourself lost in the music that drifted throughout the house. The sound that came from the turntable and speakers in your living room made your entire body feel warm, despite being simply clad in your favorite pair of underwear and one of Danny’s old oversized Christmas sweaters.
You’d decided to get a jump on getting into the Christmas spirit, as you’d found it difficult to do so this year with him and his brothers touring on the other side of the world. The first half of December seemed to have sprinted and crawled by at the same time, and you’d only just put up your Christmas tree and decorations the day before. Today, you focused on making treats for when Danny did come home, which wouldn’t be for another two or three days. Doing all of the decorating and baking did well to change the course of your thoughts, and you took advantage of this.
You mixed ingredients, baked gingerbread cookies, and put together a Christmas simmer pot, all while slowly losing yourself in the silky crooning voice of Frank Sinatra as he sang your favorite holiday classics.
After you’d finished your festivities for the day and cleaned everything up, you decided to trudge up the stairs and settle into bed with a nice, cozy blanket to watch a Christmas movie. After you turned off all the lights, you turned on the TV and flipped through your options. After settling on a movie, you snuggled up in your dimly-lit bedroom and watched the screen until your eyelids grew heavy.
As you closed your eyes and drifted to sleep, you heard the soft, muffled voices from the TV fade as your dreams overtook you.
Your dream started out like the Hallmark movie that was playing on your TV when you fell asleep. You were in a small, cozy cabin in the mountains for the holidays, and Danny was meeting you there. Whenever you arrived first, you went to the nearest store and bought things to bake. On your drive back to the cabin, Christmas music was playing on the radio station you’d tuned in to, and Frank Sinatra’s silky voice wrapped you up again as he slowly sang the first verse to “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” You hummed along as you pulled up to the cabin and carried your groceries inside.
You put the first set of gingerbread cookies in the oven and set a timer to take them out before you started mixing ingredients to make your second batch. Still humming the song from earlier, you’d just started mixing when you heard the front door open. Excitedly, you turned around, watching as Danny sat his bags down and slipped out of his jacket that was peppered with snow.
You turned back around and continued mixing your batter while you listened to the soft sound of his socks padding across the hardwood floor. You felt him slip his arms around your waist and squeeze you into his frame, his chin resting softly on your shoulder.
“Smells amazing in here. Making my favorite, I see?”
You grinned at him and let out a little giggle. “Of course.”
“You’re so sweet,” he said softly, his hands toying with the hem of your sweater, and tickling the skin on the tops of your bare thighs as he gently swayed the two of you back and forth. You relaxed into him, and he straightened. You looked up at him from below and took in the shape of his face like it was the first time you’d ever seen it; the shape of his nose and lips, the curls in his hair and the tiny flakes of snow that hadn’t managed to melt just yet. He looked down at you and you watched as the sweetest smile slowly spread itself across his face, making the corners of his deep brown eyes crinkle the tiniest bit. He leaned down and met your lips with his, bringing one of his hands up to cup the side of your face.
When he pulled his lips back from you, he kept the tip of his nose touching yours while his eyes softly held your gaze. “I missed you so much, honey,” he said, the pad of his thumb softly skimming over your cheekbone.
“God, I missed you, Danny.”
“Yeah?”
“Mhm,” you whined, feeling him press himself into your back.
“Well you don’t have to worry. Because I’m here now, sweetheart.”
You huffed a breath, squeezing your thighs together and holding them.
His hands migrated from your hips at this, and he lifted the hem of your sweater, slowly dipping his hand into your underwear. You sucked in a sharp breath when his skin met yours. “Your hands are freezing!”
“Mm,” he hummed against your ear as he slipped his fingers between your folds. “Sorry,” he chuckled, “you’re so fucking warm I can’t help myself.”
His fingers circled your clit and you moaned, feeling his cock grow harder still behind you. “Fuck, Danny. Keep going,” you said, your breath getting heavier by the second. He did as you asked, and right as you were about to cum, you jolted awake, your chest heaving.
You felt a jolt behind you, making you jolt again, turning your head and your sleepy eyes around to see Danny, eyes-wide, staring back at you from under your blanket.
Lost for words, you rubbed the sleep from your eyes and opened them again to still, despite your belief, see Danny sitting beside you in the bed. “What are you doing here?” you asked, your voice still heavily laced with grogginess from your nap.
“We decided to change our flights at the last minute. I think we were all just ready to get back home. I wanted to surprise you,” he said, giving you a small smile.
“Well I’m glad you did,” you said, rolling over to him and straddling his hips. He readjusted the blanket around you as you leaned down to kiss him. The two of you took each other in for a bit, and he pulled back just far enough to speak.
“I missed you so much, honey,” he whispered.
You froze, remembering the exact moment in your dream that he uttered those words and what he was doing when he said them. You replayed it in your head, and felt warmth spread between your legs. “I missed you,” you said, pulling him back to your mouth. You felt his cock start to harden rather quickly under you, and you immediately rolled your hips into him, your breath starting to pick up.
“Is that my sweater?” He asked, his eyes glinting at you from below.
“Yeah,” you said, unsure of what he would say next.
He smirked and flicked his gaze from the sweater to your eyes. “It looks really good on you. I like it.”
You slipped the sweater over your head and let it fall to the floor. “Does it look better now?”
His hands gripped your hips and he let out a hard laugh. He flipped you over so that you were under him, and he peppered kisses from your mouth to your breasts, taking his time to spoil each new area he encountered, leaving your heat more soaked and needy for him than it ever had been.
Once he’d met your underwear, he lifted his head as he hooked his fingers around your waistband and waited. You lifted your hips, and he took his cue to pull your underwear down your legs. He paused after he dropped them on the floor.
His eyes flicked from your dripping pussy to your eyes and back. He let out a small huff of air and chuckled to himself.
“What’s so funny?”
He looked at you and raised his eyebrows before he spoke. “I’m toast.”
“What do you mean?” you chuckled back at him.
“I’m not gonna last two fucking seconds in there. There’s no way.”
“Why do you say that?”
His eyes widened as he dramatically glanced back and forth again. “Baby I’ve never seen you wet like this for me. Ever. And it’s been way too long. This is gonna be a fuckin’ mess.”
“Is that a bad thing?” you asked, raising your eyebrows with a smirk.
You watched his jaw fall slack as he stared at you, almost in a daze, before he slowly started slipping his clothes off and tossing them in the floor.
Once he’d fully undressed himself, he settled his shoulders between your legs leaving soft kisses on your inner thighs, slowly moving closer and closer to your heat. The closer he got, the faster you huffed, your heart hammering with anticipation for the feeling of his mouth; a sensation you’d thought about every single night that he was gone.
Your hands lightly shook as they reached for his hair, knowing full-well you didn’t have the self-control to keep yourself from finishing just moments after he delved his tongue inside of you. Once he was happy with the number of kisses he’d given you, his hands crept up your thighs, and he used his fingers to separate you just a bit, giving his tongue easier access to your already swollen clit.
He started slowly, running his tongue from your entrance to your clit before giving it a few soft flicks before descending again, making your legs involuntarily twinge with every flick. Your hands softly gripped the roots of his curls as he continued.
Slowly, he began to move faster, shortening the time between the flicks on your clit, making you whimper as he did so. Your grip tightened as you felt a burning in the pit of your stomach already. “Shit, Danny,” you moaned.
His eyes flicked up to you from below. “What is it? You need some more?”
You moaned again, his voice making you wetter with every syllable. It was then that he slipped his middle and ring fingers into your folds and moved them around, collecting your juices before slipping them languidly into your core. Your back arched at the contact and your fingers completely wrapped themselves around his hair and pulled harder than before, making him moan into your pussy as he sucked your clit into his mouth. His fingers curled, rubbing the perfect spot, and you cried out, your hips bucking shamelessly into his face. The pit of your stomach was seething, and you didn’t even try to quench the fire.
“Oh god, Danny– I– ohhhhh fuck. Fuckfuckfuckfuck–.”
He quickened the pace at which his fingers pumped in and out of your entrance, and you immediately felt the warmth of your first orgasm spread over your entire body. His pace was unwavering, and you continually writhed under him and bucked your hips, physically begging for him to be deeper inside you.
You moaned again.
“What is it, sweetheart?” He cooed, “Tell me what you want and I’ll give it to you.” His eyebrows raised, soft and expectant.
“Need you–,” you choked between whimpers, “to fffffff–.” His fingers slowed, giving your brain a moment to work through the numbing haze he was causing with his fingers. “Fuck me,” you whispered. “Please.”
“Been dreaming about hearing you say that to me for months, honey. Dreaming about how you’d look with me buried as deep as I can go. Is that what you want?”
The only bodily function you could manage was a vehement nod of your head, making him let out a breathy chuckle. He removed his fingers from you and leaned up, gently placing his lips on your forehead as he lined himself up with your entrance.
You watched as his mouth hung open while he slipped the tip of his cock into your core, letting out a shaky breath like it was the first time all over again. You sucked in a sharp breath as you adjusted to his girth, feeling him stretch the walls of your pussy so slowly you had to make an effort not to drool. Your head fell backward as your chest heaved at the feeling of fullness between your legs while your hands gripped him by the roots of his curls again.
Moving deeper still, he let out a deep groan, fighting the overwhelming urge to press the rest of the way into you to satisfy himself. He lifted his head to make eye contact with you, his mouth still sitting agape as he slowly continued to slide into you.
“Goddamn, honey. You’re so fucking perfect. So fucking perfect.”
Once he reached the furthest he could, you whimpered, very lightly rolling your hips up into him.
“Mmm, you really did miss me, huh?”
“Mhm,” you whined. “Every fucking night, Danny.”
“I’m flattered,” he said, smirking.
He started pulling his hips back and pushing them in, helping you grow accustomed to the feeling of his thrusts before speeding up. You moaned with each push, already reveling in the depth that he could reach in his current position. Unable to help himself, he pushed into you quicker and harder second by second, his grunts being muted by the slick sounds from your core and the sound of his skin meeting yours over and over.
His breath quickly left him as he continued sharply rocking you back into your pillows, trying his best to hold himself up for as long as he could. His rhythm was impeccable, as one would expect, and you felt your second orgasm creep up on you much quicker than you’d anticipated.
“Danny. Danny. Fuck,” was all you could say before your lower stomach burst with warmth again, leaving your legs trembling on either side of his perfect hips.
“Mmm keep going, sweetheart. Just feel it, yeah? Right there?”
You moaned, nodding your head, focusing everything on the feeling oh his cock sliding in and out of you, like he said. Heavy breaths fell from your lips, and your chest was absolutely burning. It was then that he straightened, removing his cock from you entirely and backing himself off the bed, standing at the end of it. His hands encircled the bottoms of your calves, and he gently pulled you to the edge of the bed; so close that your ass was nearly hanging off the end.
He opened your legs wide and lined himself back up before plunging deliciously deeper inside your core, making you cry out for him. Your hands gripped the sheets under you hard enough to turn your knuckles white. He knew you loved being as close to him as possible while he fucked you, so he slid his arm behind you so that the crook of his elbow rested perfectly behind your neck, his hand firmly gripping your shoulder while his other hand rested on the top of your head. You felt warm and wholly connected to him being wrapped in his arms like this, and you knew he felt the same. He planted a lusty kiss on your lips, lingering there, slipping his tongue into your mouth on occasion.
Once he broke the kiss, he pulled his hips back, pulling his cock out of you about halfway, and pressed down with both of his hands, bringing you to him as he brought himself to you, pushing himself into you deeper than he’d ever gone to date. Your back arched, pressing your chest up into his and he forcefully met your hips with his own, the sounds between the two of you becoming louder and messier by the second. His grunts turned into sharp exhales as he tried with everything he had to hold out and pace himself for his own climax, desperately trying to finish you off for a third time before he indulged.
“Ohhhhh my fucking GOD, Danny,” you moaned. “You’re so fucking deep. Don’t stop. Please don’t fucking stop.”
He moaned, and you could tell from the sound of it that he was tiptoeing on his edge. You tried with everything you had to squeeze his cock as hard as you could, and you thought you had him. His eyes screwed shut and his mouth fell open, and you watched him fight with his entire being for every second he could stand it.
His grip on your shoulder and your hair grew much tighter as he grit his teeth together, his chest heaving harder than you’d ever seen it. He pulled you impossibly closer to him, every inch of your skin burning against his as he pounded into you the hardest he had all night.
“Cum for me, sweet girl. Show me how bad you needed my cock while I was gone, huh? Come on,” he coaxed. You arched again, harder than you ever had, and you cried out for him again, your entire body trembling as he kept his rhythm perfectly again, making your legs twinge from the immense stimulation.
Soon after, you felt his hips quiver, and it took mere seconds for him to start his release. You did what you could to squeeze around him while he rode out his high, milking his cock while he grunted and moaned into your neck, eventually laying his upper half against yours in a heaving pile. Your hands trailed the expanse of his back as his chest pressed into yours with each breath he took.
When he rose from you, he slipped out from between your legs and padded off to the bathroom for a washcloth. After he’d cleaned the both of you, he settled himself at the head of the bed, pulling you to him. You laid your head on his chest and threw your arm across his torso as he pressed his lips against your forehead, reaching for the TV remote on the nightstand.
After flipping it on, he looked at you and grinned.
“What?” You asked, reflecting his smile on your lips.
“That must’ve been a really good nap earlier to put you in that big of a mood,” he said, waggling his brows at you.
You blushed, looking away from him for a moment with a giggle.
“Actually…”

˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ — ❤︎ the ministry is all decorated in festive decor and it truly feels like the holidays are in season! now… what do these ghouls want to do with you?
pairing: era iv nameless ghouls x gn!reader
a/n: first off i just want to apologize for the last few days being so late. i really did try my best to make sure that each day had a good fic. this is the only fic that doesn’t really follow the prompt, but i tried my best. consider this fic a nice little letter for the start of 2024. happy new year, and please enjoy !!!
cw: slight nsfw content. horny ghouls. poly ghouls. implied orgy near the end. there’s nothing nsfw that really happens, just mentioned.

“we want to make this holiday special, dear. come on down to the nave of the ministry… you won’t be disappointed. merry christmas, sweetheart~” —❤︎
┅✦┅
the entire month has been a rollercoaster of emotions. each day you felt like something wild and absolutely ecstatic happens to you every day. it has only made your holiday season more and more interesting.
and now here you were, all cozied and nestled in your room, the scent of roasted chestnuts and currier ives lingering in the air. you sat atop your wooly quilt, with eight different letters in hand.
the slips were underneath your door when you came back from a long shift of working in the ministry. they were all decorated and colored differently, each envelope having its own unique flair and personality to it. you didn’t even have to read the names to know who’s was who.
smiling to yourself, you opened each letter one by one, excited to read what’s inside.
you had started off with the shiny white envelope. it was decorated in cute stationary stickers and the front was written in a glittery pink pen. at the bottom left corner of the envelope was a pink laced ribbon tied neatly with your name on it. if there was anyone that loved colors more than the entire human population, it was your favorite colorful ghoulette.
“aurora’s letter of thanks”
⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ to my dear y/n,
hello my darling! i hope this letter reaches you well, because i know how the others can get at times~ happy holidays, my love. i know that this month has been busy for you because of the constant yule traditions, but i’m delighted that you were able to make some time for me and that we could make gingerbread houses together like usual! and i gotta say… your tongue skills never fail to impress me~ you made me come so hard i swore i was going to pass out!! but really though… thanks for being such a sweetie to me, the ministry really doesn’t deserve you. i hope to see you soon for our little surprise~
with lots of love,
aurora ghoulette
the next envelope was colored in a dreamy grey, with cute hearts inked in pen on the cover, it gave off a much more serene and calm vibe compared to the vibrant letter of aurora’s. at the back was a little pocket that contained a written song. after careful observing, you had determined it belonged to an infamous air ghoulette. oh what a songbird she was.
“cumulus’ dreamy songbird”
༄ؘ ۪۪۫۫ ▹▫◃ ۪۪۫۫༄ؘ hello darling ♡︎
what a beautiful winter night, is it not? i often like to be in touch with nature when i’m writing, helps me keep my mind at center. how have you been, darling? i hope you’ve been better after our little passionate night in bed. you were so cute with how you were eagerly trying to get my lingerie off… it was charming, really. though, putting the promiscuity aside, i just want to really want to send this love letter to you as a token of my thanks. you’re my little songbird, and you inspire me to do better, whether it’s songwriting or performing. so as a token of my gratitude.. i’ve prepared a … special song for you. i hope you like it. anyways… come see me later, i’ll sing it.. specially for you~ i love you, dove, and i wish you a happy new year ♡︎♡︎♡︎
your dearest,
cumulus ghoulette
the texture of the next letter was earthy and coarse, but it emitted the soft aroma of fresh pine leaves. it seems that this letter was specially crafted personally for you. just from the scent and touch alone, you smiled to yourself knowing it came from a certain earth ghoul. upon opening it, there was a little sunflower necklace attached to the sand paper letter.
“mountain’s delighted memories”
*:..。o○ to y/n,
hope you’re doing well, and that this year has been treating you well. i appreciate you approaching me that night… and throwing me into the passions of bed. i gotta say, those faces you made when i came deep inside of you, filling you up with me seed, it still gets me going. just being honest here. the reason i’m bringing this up is well… i want to make more memories like that with you. ones that we can share together, and make ourselves feel like we’re ascending to the heavens we can’t reach. you’re really someone that makes me want to just go all out, and in many ways. which is why my gift to you this year.. is going to be imprinted into your mind for eons to come. so, if you want to find more… stop by soon please, i’ll be waiting. ‘till then, have a good christmas.
from your love,
mountain ghoul
this paper was crumpled and slightly torn. it looked like it was made in a rush, but it held a certain charm to it. there were little trinkets and treats attached to the letter, all of which had a cute homemade vibe to it. the faded streaks of purple pen gave away who it belonged to, and you couldn’t be more happy when a certain bug came to mind.
“phantom’s sweet treats”
-ˋˏ✄┈┈┈┈ hi y/n!
i missed you :(( and i know that we live in the same ministry, but you’re so busy and i barely get to see you! which is why i dragged you out to ‘look for a christmas tree’ with me. i gotta say, i was nervous… but seeing how you reacted when i pounded you against that tree.. satanas, still sends shivers down my spine. after that night, i just can’t stop thinking about you. the way you reacted to my touch, oh it was so good. i put together some handmade goodies for you, hope you like them. think of it as my way of saying thanks for a good night :) on that note, i’m sure the other letters have talked about meeting in a special place. i’ll be there, and i’ll be sure to give you all of my attention <3
love,
phantom ghoul
closing the envelope shut, you grabbed the next one. lipstick marks stained the paper perfectly, imprinting kisses everywhere. looking at the particular shade of red of the lipstick, you instantly thought of a certain keyboardist. there was a soft pink rose attached underneath the slip, and you opened the envelope with ease.
“cirrus’ gratitude”
゚+*:ꔫ:*﹤ evening darling,
i take that christmas has been well for you, huh? it certainly seems like it has been, considering how you were with me during that night in the log cabin ;)) we have to do that more often, sweetheart. you were so cute, with how your face was squished up against the window while i went to town on you… oh, still gets me wet, i can’t lie. it’s one of my favorite memories this season, and for that, i thank you. thanks for being such a delightful and loving partner. you’re honestly a saving grace for me, and you always make me feel good, both in and out of the bedroom. honestly, i’ve never met someone as good in bed as you are. so, as a token of my gratitude, i want you to meet me with the other ghouls tonight. it’ll be fun sweetheart, i promise.
from your dearest,
cirrus ghoulette ❤︎
looking at the next letter with intrigue, you were greeted with a faint smell of cologne, the scent of it was soft and reminded you of the beach. laced over the envelope was a red ribbon with seashells and shark tooth carved trinkets at the end. what a gorgeous sight. you opened it, and smiled upon recognizing the stunning calligraphy ingrained on the paper.
“rain’s poem”
。・゚゚・ dear y/n,
having a good christmas? you better be, otherwise i’ll make sure you are. but for real though, i’m sure this year has been great for you. i would also like to thank you for.. ‘helping’ me with my own personal gift. you looked so goddamn good tied up in my bed like that. i’ll admit, i got carried away with my words, but i know damn well you were into me treating you like my bitch while i dicked you down on the mattress. though, that made me realize how much you love my honeyed words, so i’ll use this opportunity to praise instead to degrade. y/n, you’re an absolute starlight in my life, a treasure like no other. i’d move the heavens and pits for you. it’s cheesy, but it’s true, and i promise to show you how much i love you in any way i can. come by soon ❦
from your favorite water boy,
rain ghoul
the next letter had an ashy and brazened texture, but it shone with a brimstone-like layer to it. the paper was slightly calloused, and there was a fiery flair to it that could only be from one infamous firecracker you knew of. popping off the sloppily made wax seal, you opened it to find an equally burnt letter, but the sight made you smile.
“sodo’s confessions”
∞ ₒ ˚ ° 𐐒 to my y/n,
i’d ask you how you’re doing n’ shit, but i’m not good with words, or greetings nonetheless. so to get things out of the way, i’m going to be as straightforward as possible. y/n, i want to fuck you so badly this christmas right now. that night we shared, in my bedroom, fuck that was so hot. i loved the way you reacted every time i brought the candle wax down on your body. you looked so goddamn sexy covered in all of that… and the memory still makes my dick so hard. call me a pervert or whatever, but i’m proud to be one for you. i can’t help myself when i’m around you. your body, your scent, everything, it drives me fucking insane. don’t tell the other ghouls, but you’re my favorite, and i really can’t figure out why… guess i’m just so drawn to you. at midnight, when you meet the others, i’ll be sure to let them know who can make you feel the best in bed. and that’s not a threat, that’s a fucking promise. but ‘till then, i’ll be waiting for you, sweet thing
i love you,
sodo ghoul
the final letter had a reddish stain on it. bringing it closer to your nose, you got a faint whiff of red whine from the stain. the designs on the letter were intricate and creative, but there was a suave and sultry feel to this letter. if there was any infernal who knew how to be smooth, it was a certain multi ghoul with the voice of an angel.
“swiss’ invitation”
❤︎*♡∞:。.。 to my love,
welcome, darling~ i know how much you like the smell of wine, so i indulged you a bit in my envelope for you. merry christmas, and thank you for being such a passionate lover. gotta say, bunny, you looked so cute that one night when you were sitting on my cock. the way your rosy cheeks just got more pink every time you looked at me, desperate to stay warm… ooh, that’s what you call hot. good to know that i was able to keep you warm during that snowy night, and i got to get my dick wet too. so it was a win/win situation for the two of us, dear~ but all jokes aside, i had come up with the plan to treat my favorite sibling of sin to some… fun this season. i conspired with all of the other ghouls and ghoulettes to help me, and i’m sure they all mentioned in their letters that they want to meet up with you too. we want to make this holiday special, dear. come on down to the nave of the ministry… you won’t be disappointed. merry christmas, sweetheart~
forever yours,
swiss ghoul
folding all the letters neatly and piling them on your desk, you smirked to yourself, and got up from the bed to start walking over to the nave of the church. each step carried your eager body closer to a lustful, passionate and loving location.
whatever your lovers were planning… you knew it was going to be a good one.
eyeing up the tall, church doors, you pushed them open to be met with a glorious sight.
the moonlight streamed through the glass panes windows of the dimly lit nave. candles aligned everywhere with ribbons decorating every corner and crevice. but the best sight of all… were the infamous nameless ghouls themselves.
they were all dressed for the occasion, all dolled up to your liking. the ghoulettes were in matching lingerie, but in different colors. aurora in a rose gold, cumulus in white and cirrus in black. they all huddled together and perked up upon seeing you. you looked to the other side to see another group of ghouls. rain’s expression was neutral, but there was a promiscuous glint in his eyes as the red ribbon twirled between his fingers. sodo’s expression was as hungry as ever, eyeing like a piece of candy while holding onto a candle. phantom looked excited, but jittery, claws digging into his seat, and mountain looked as calm and collected as ever, albeit, not minding the little problem in his pants.
from the center, swiss emerged, and he looked down at you with a wicked, yet lustful grin. his tail flicked about to the side, and you looked up at him with curious eyes, chuckling, his long fingers traced around your jaw and gently clasped around it while craning your head up, making you look at him.
he smiled at you,
and in return you smiled.
“merry christmas, y/n.” he spoke suavely, his words still as honeyed as ever.
he then stepped behind you, gently massaging your shoulders and holding onto you. with a snap of his fingers, the ghouls and ghoulettes giggled and approached closer to you, lust on their minds.
oh
this would certainly be a christmas to remember~

“Y/n? Can you open the door?” Joshua said from the phone. You were so close to dozing off when Joshua called, but you were jolted awake by what he had said.
“Joshua, what the fuck? This isn’t funny, you’re all the way in Seoul and I’m in Japan, there’s no way you came all the way here,” You huffed and went back to working on your essay, which was due the next day.
“Y/n, your mom called me. She told me about how you’ve been stressed over exams and school lately. I came to visit so you could maybe relax a bit,” Joshua said as you heard bags dragging from the other line. ‘He really is here,’ your eyes widened at the realization.
“Joshua, did you really fly all the way to Japan just to see me? You’re a week early for fucks sake! Isn’t the tour next week?” You were practically bolting down the stairs in your cinnamoroll slippers, almost slipping during the pursuit, which Joshua could hear.
“Maybe open the door so we can have a proper conversation?” Joshua had ended the call and you had opened the front door just in time, immediately engulfing your boyfriend in a hug as he spun you around.
The essay could wait, what mattered right now was that your boyfriend, who you hadn’t seen in almost half a year, was here to see you. Long distance was hard, especially with Joshua constantly on the move and his every schedule packed with work, but you were grateful that you and your boyfriend were able to make it work.
“Josh, I can’t believe you actually came!” You giggle, and Joshua buries his face into your hair. “Of course, I missed you so much. Now get off your laptop so we can spend time together,” Joshua says while walking into the cozy town house.
He’s been at your house a whenever he visited Japan, and it just gets more comforting as time goes on, especially the person living in it.
If Joshua wasn’t an idol, he would be fully content with just being your boyfriend and being a college student with you in the cozy town house you currently resided in.
“You really didn’t have to, I could’ve managed and been on my merry way to Seoul during the break you know,” You say softly and snuggle into Joshua’s arms as you watched a movie together.
“It was the least I can do, and besides, it’s been months since we last saw each other. I decided to get a headstart,” Joshua replied and snuggled his nose into the crook of your neck, a habit of his that you had missed so dearly.
“What did you end up bringing me by the way?” You asked, and opened the duty free bag curiously.
“I got you your favorite snacks that you always tell me to get whenever I fly over,” Joshua smiled gently, to which you responded with a squeal. Your boyfriend is the best person you could’ve ever asked for.
A few hours had gone by in a flash and after finishing some left over pizza from the day before and two tubs of ice cream, you and Joshua were beat.
“Are you tired? It’s getting late already, and you came here right after landing,” You say, concerned for your boyfriend, who had just come from a long flight.
“A bit, but I don’t mind because at least I finally get to see you after months,” Joshua whispers and gives you a gentle kiss.
You smile into it as Joshua leads you both into your bedroom, the two of you falling into your usual night routine as if time hadn’t passed.
When you were done, you laid in bed with Joshua, drawing circles into his firm chest as he ran his hands through your hair while slipping in a few pecks on your face.
“You seem so sleepy already,” Joshua chuckled, noticing your eyes slowly starting to droop. You did almost fall asleep at your desk before Joshua had called.
“I might be, I’m just scared that this is all a dream and you might disappear when I open my eyes tomorrow” You replied, already dozing off but still feeling Joshua’s gaze on you.
Joshua chuckles again and shakes his head at you. “Rest up darling, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be right here when you wake up,” he says, and turns off the lamp on the bedside table.

“You know, you’re pretty good at this, Doc.” Wrecker says with a grin as his gaze drifts from the fish he’s cleaning, to where the team medic is crouching next to a roaring fire.
The light from the orange flames gives her an almost ethereal look, and Wrecker has a look away before he gets too distracted. “Well,” She admits as she clears a space of snow, as best as she can, and pulls the tent out of his kit, “Mom and dad divorced when I was a kid. And while mom had a nice house, dad wasn’t so lucky. So his weekends were usually spent camping.”
“So you could probably clean this fish then?” Wrecker asks, as he glances at her curiously.
She smiles sheepishly, “Well, dad did show me how, but you’re doing a wonderful job.”
He grins at her, and sets his knife to the side, “Well, as it happens, I’m done anyway. You have everything set up?”
“Yep. Just toss everything in the pot.”
Wrecker does as she instructs, and watches as she adds a few packets of seasoning, as well as some dehydrated vegetables, “I’m guessing your dad had you doing most of the cooking?”
“Yeah. Well, he wasn’t very good at cooking, really. So it was either learn to cook, or me and my siblings were going to end up with tapeworms or something.” Wrecker sits on the flat rock that she found…somewhere…and starts cleaning his knife.
“You know, you don’t talk about your family often.”
She glances at him, “Well, there’s not really much to say, is there?” She drops the contents of a second package into the pot, and then sits next to Wrecker, “My family is just average.”
“I’m not sure what an average family is,” Wrecker points out, “Though I bet Tech could tell me.”
She laughs, “Right, right. Well, there’s mom. She was a housewife up until she and dad got divorced, and then she got a job at the local elementary school getting me and my siblings free tuition. Dad was a firefighter who had a gambling issue. And then there’s the kids, my other brother, me, and our younger sister.”
“Well, you’re a doctor. What do your siblings do?”
“My brother is a chef at some big name restaurant on Coruscant. My sister is trying to become an actress, though she’s only really starred in commercials.” She shrugs, “Like I said, normal. Your family is so much more interesting.”
He laughs, “That’s one word for them.” Wrecker finishes cleaning his knife and stashes it away, “Are you comfortable?”
“Hm?”
“It’s kind of cold.” Wrecker points out.
“Oh, I’m alright. The fire is helping, and Hunter insisted I wear cold weather gear for this mission.” She hesitates, “Do…do you think-?”
“I’m sure they’re fine. Tech is there, after all.” Wrecker drapes an arm over her shoulder and tugs her against his side, “We’re the ones who have to camp outside in the snow.”
She smiles shyly, “I’m not worried.”
“No?”
“I have you here, don’t I?” She asked with a small, almost flirty, smile.
Wrecker’s heart flips nervously, “I…uh…”
She tilts her head, “Am I making you uncomfortable?”
“Nah, Doc. I’m just…I’m not Hunter or Crosshair, I’m not used to flirting.” Wrecker admits.
“I’ll stop, if you want.”
“Well now, I didn’t say that.”
She laughs, her hand coming up to cover her mouth, “I like you, Wrecker. You’re fun and you make me laugh and you make me feel safe. I’d like to go on a proper date with you, if I can.”
Wrecker blinks at her, “You…you do?”
“Yeah, if it’s alright.”
“We don’t really…there isn’t much time for proper dating-” Wrecker stammers, “And I don’t get paid-”
“I do get paid, and, well, it doesn’t have to be a big thing, Wrecker. I just want to spend time with you.”
“Well, in that case, can’t this be considered a date?” Wrecker points out.
She looks startled for a moment, and then she beams at him, “I think that’s a wonderful idea.” She lifts to her knees slightly and presses a light kiss against his cheek, before she settles next to him again.
Wrecker presses his hand against his burning cheek, a wide grin that he isn’t even trying to stifle.
Being stranded here isn’t as bad as it could be.
