since "curls" is literally in my username, its only natural that I post about something for the curly girls :D

so why not start with a beginner's guide to curly hair :)

soo first of all i think its helpful if you get a gist of what hair type you have, e.g 2c, 3b, 4b etc...

its not mandatory and doesn't really mean anything but like it definitely aids when you're looking for haircair & inspo with hairstyles and haircuts and all that jazz 🤗 [ <- jazz hands :) ]

here's a chart to help you

obviously do some of your own research if you're unsure- this isn't very in-depth and doesn't use irl examples

also keep in mind that you can have multiple, and a wide range of types on one head LOLL like mine ranges from 2C -> 3C 🫣

(PS: this guide will be tailored to type 2 -> 3 hair just because that's what I have experience with and don't want to potentially ruin anyone's type 4 hair 😭 but if aspects of this apply then feel free to apply them 😇)

wash day routine + products

alrighty so i see some overcomplication/people being scared of curly hair washing- like looking at porosity and whatnot but IMO its really not that difficult

the only thing you really need to worry about for the washing aspect is getting moisturising (curly recommended) shampoo & conditioner, just cause if you don't it could dry out your hair and have a pretty dodgy finished product 😬 (I use Umberto Giannini for this)

washing is pretty standard:

wet your hair thoroughly, so that no part is dry

shampoo round 1, make sure to scrub thoroughly to get rid of any dirt and grime 🙈

rinse

shampoo round 2, this should turn your hair into its own bubble bath 🫧

rinse

condition, rake through your hair and make sure it is everywhere

let sit for a little bit, ~2 mins maybe

rinse

and thats it :))

don't use a regular towel, use a microfiber towel if you're using one at all so that all the moisture isn't drained from your hair before the rest of the products

now for the curly hair routine:

start with leave-in conditioner and run it through the entirety of your hair - I use Garnier leave-in, like the big tub

then run some curl cream through your hair and scrunch it in, make sure there is an even application throughout all the hair - I use the Shea Moisture curl cream

~ this next bit is optional because its a gel cast + styling but honestly id totally recommend going the extra mile for it cause it holds your curls for longer and makes ur hair softer ~

apply curly gel to your hair and scrunch it in, I use Aussie curl gel

for styling, I take the middle -> top sections of my hair, take some extra gel and finger coil the curls

let your hair air dry or diffuse

once completely dry, take some hair oil and scrunch it through your hair and separate any coils, I use argan oil

then you're done :))

regular hair care

there isnt really much to say here tbh

only that

if you need to refresh your curls, you should be able to do it just by finger-coiling with water

DON'T brush your hair while dry, it causes breakage

if you sweat, your hair will most likely get frizzy

to tie your hair use a scrunchie

sleeping with a bonnet helps reduce frizz but icl I don't 🫣

hair styles + cuts

okay let me preface this section by saying PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEE do some research about curly stylists in your area, I promise it will be worth it because curly hair cutting requires special training (despite the fact we've probably all cut our hair ourselves at some point 🙈)

now here are some things I usually ask for in a haircut:

a trim off the edges to keep my hair healthy (I have hair down past my shoulders)

2 or 3 layers to keep volume around my head so it doesn't look like a flat landslide...

some long bangs at the front to frame my face

obviously thats just me so do some extra research and see what you'd like

not much, but here are some hairstyles i usually do for everyday wear:

hair down (obviously 🤗)

high ponytail/bun with a few curls at the front

half up half down with a few curls at the front

thats basically all the basics 🙃

i know its hard to start on a curly hair journey especially if you don't know what you're doing, so if you are (or aren't) i hope this was able to help you in some shape or form 🫶🤗

Does anyone know who the website owner of JustFic was/is? I wonder if we can try to reach out to them and get permission to import the JustFics library to A03 so that we can preserve all the wonderful works by the many talented cangel authors that were hosted there. Death-Marked Love, a spuffy fanfic archive, did this pretty recently.

If all else fails, we can try to access our favorite fics using the Wayback Machine. If you have a direct link or bookmark to one of the fics you're looking for, you can plug it into WBM and see if it's saved like this:

That's a good question! This post got a little long, so I'm implementing a break lol

I don't exactly have specific rules, but I think my biggest tip for someone writing for the first time is to go easy on yourself and give yourself time to get better. I struggle a lot with perfectionism and the nasty habit of being harder on myself than anyone else ever will be, but it's important to acknowledge that we are our own worst critics and that improvement is only measurable by practicing through the early stuff. I encourage a lot of experimenting, especially when you're starting out--try new things and ways of writing and slowly collect the ones that work for you. I've taken plenty of classes on the logistics of writing and technical tips, but those aren't necessarily helpful for everyone to focus on when they're starting out. I think in first drafts and initial writing, it's better to write from whatever urge possesses you to do so and not get caught up in the technicalities. Those are often more helpful when editing, but it really depends on the way your brain works!

Over time, you'll start to build up a sense of flow and style and the general rhythm of writing engaging paragraphs, which brings me to my next point--reading. It's been said before, but I'll say it again: Reading is one of the best ways to develop a sense of rhythm and effective imagery/idiom/etc. I've also spent plenty of classes analyzing the effectiveness of (I forget the exact word) elements like metaphor or allegory or symbolism or anaphora or any other technical term you can think of that is commonly used to convey specific literary concepts. Reading, on its own, is a great tool for subconsciously noticing the flow of writing and getting a sense for it, but sometimes just taking notice of certain paragraphs that feel right to you or just hit in the right way can allow you to analyze them more deeply and find out what exactly it is about the words that works. Everyone has their own preferences! That might seem daunting, but often the best resources we as writers have is each other, and everyone is inspired by someone else at some point. I'm totally here to take asks and answer any questions I may have brought up because I'm rambling a little bit and like I said: technical aspects aren't necessarily helpful to focus on all at once, and I recommend trying one out at a time to see how it works for you. If that makes sense!

My biggest piece of advice is to have fun with it! Experiment. Put in that weird little thing you think nobody else will like, because often those are the best parts of writing. Do what you feel sounds right! Not to Wayne Gretzky you, but you can only get better or 'succeed' by trying it out and seeing where it takes you. We write because we have ideas we want to share or explore for ourselves, and trying to force yourself to write something you're not passionate about is rarely lucrative.

As for engagement and stats--now, that's a whole other beast. We all want to be noticed and appreciated and commented on, and it's hard sometimes to post a fic and have less engagement than you hoped, but I have a couple things I like to keep in mind for this. It's discouraging, for sure, but people on ao3 or similar sites don't always show their appreciation even if they read and liked your fic. The only way we can fix this as a collective community is to lead by example and comment/kudos/share the fics we read in the hopes that it will catch on and to spread the love to everyone else. I also find it helpful to think about the people who do leave kudos--even if there are only one or two of them--as not just random usernames, but actual living, breathing people who read your fic and enjoyed it. There's that post somewhere about ten likes not seeming like much in the scheme of social media and the influence that virality has had on the internet in recent years, but to have ten people standing in a room with you giving you a thumbs up? That's a lot of people. Even if you get very little engagement, that is not a reflection of you as a person or even necessarily your skill. I know that this can be draining, but the only way to try and build an audience is to post. Sometimes it takes a long time for fics to be noticed. Sometimes things fail. It's up to you how you want to take that, and I can't tell you any of this for certain. I just know from my personal experience that finding a community is only accomplishable by interacting and posting and sharing and existing, and often someone will come along when you don't expect it.

None of this is guaranteed. Hell, take everything I say with a critical eye and more than a few grains of salt, because this is only my experience and god am I still learning. These are things that help me, and I hope some of this is helpful to you, too! What I can tell you for certain is that I encourage you to write and pursue it as far as you want to, and even farther than that. It takes hard work. It can feel like nobody is listening. And ughhhhh the writer's block suuuuuucks. But, you're not alone in this. Anything you've felt is something another writer has felt before, and I think, at least, that there's comfort in knowing you're following in the footsteps of even the writers we consider to be great in both their success and flaws. Maybe I'm being a little lofty ahaha, but it comes down to whether or not you want to write. You can only decide how this goes, and it takes time to work through the barriers of both skill and the anxious fear of not being seen. I see you! And I'm here in the asks anytime you want :)

And even if you fail and give up--you're no less of a writer for it, because you tried, and I think that matters. The lovely thing about being alive and being writers is that we can change and grow, and there will always be a place for you among creators if you choose to join them, no matter how amateur you feel or how long you do it for.

OH MAN it’s a bit of a complicated ride but if you’ve got the time to invest i personally really like the story, the gameplay is more fun with friends imho but even solo it’s a blast. the combat and mechanics can take some getting used to but afaik they’ve made the new player experience MUCH more streamlined than it was all those years ago when i started, so it shouldn’t be too rough a start.

to answer the most important question: there are pets! first one you can get is a kubrow (dog adjacent) and you get access to kavats (kitty) and a few other variants on the two a bit later in the quest line. they’re very fun and super useful, i love my kubrow with my whole heart and she’s saved my ass more than a few times. they’ve made them a lot easier to take care of over the years, so you don’t have to worry about them dying or getting sick anymore, thank god. they’re just chillin. you can dress them up in little outfits and customize their colors and even put different skins on them to make them look like other in-game animals, it rules.

i wish i had more time to go over the specifics but alas i’m on the clock and don’t have any downtime til after my shift is up 😭 however i have one word of caution for you : if you’re given the option to choose between starting in duviri or starting in the origin system, i HIGHLY recommend going with the origin system to start. duviri is fun but it’s tied into lore that you aren’t going to see again until way later in the main questline, and it throws a lot of mechanics and gamemodes at you that are more late-game stuff and will just be confusing in the long run. it’s also the newest release so it’s very buggy lmfao, it’s definitely better to hold off on that and play it later on in your journey. i don’t know why they decided to make it available as a tutorial quest at all, it’s a weird decision imho and will needlessly complicate the game for you way too early on.

also, whether or not you choose to spend money on the game is your business, but i STRONGLY recommend against purchasing regal aya for prime resurgence. it’s a useless system imho and nearly everything you could buy with aya you can either obtain from relics on your own or you can trade for with other players for far cheaper. it’s pretty much a money sink for convenience, mostly geared towards players who might not know better and not realize they can get prime stuff elsewhere.

Two things I need to say first.

1. I don't follow anyone in the community

I come to tumblr just to be here. The only people I interact with are people who come to my blog. I’m a hermit online and offline. I have people I like here, but I don’t follow them either.

I rarely go ‘outside’ my own blog. The only thing I do that resembles going outside, is checking the pick/a/card tag. Sometimes when I want to be a bit more adventurous, I search astrology placements to find posts to reblog on my main account. I visit other people’s blogs, but once in a blue moon.

I notice some readers who do PACs but I don't know about them much and 9/10 I don't remember the usernames (I know when I see it, but I can’t recall). I’m pretty oblivious of what’s happening in the community, who’s who, who does what content, etc. So I can’t really recommend many. 

Just because I can’t, it *doesn’t* mean there aren’t many good readers.

2. It's hard for me to find PACs that resonate with me

It’s harder to find a reader whose readings (more than 2) fit me. I don’t know why, I guess it is what it is. But just because I don’t find their readings resonating, does *not* mean they are not good readers. 

There are many good readers in the community tags. You can also visit my main blog, go to the pac tag and check those blogs.

@storytellingdreamer Thank you for the perfect summary 😆 Personally, I’m of the opinion that, due to the nature of Mandalorians likely being nomadic by necessity at this point in time, they very likely had contingency plans in place for moving off-world at a moment’s notice if it came to something like this.

When the covert gets the news that Din’s in trouble and needs help (bc they all know that Din wouldn’t be in this position or putting them in this position unless absolutely necessary), it’s all hands on deck as they help him at the end of The Sin; I imagine part of the adults are in charge of getting the foundlings and any necessities onboard a ship hidden out somewhere on the flats and getting out of sight of the town asap, and the rest are set to come to his defense in town with the Armorer and any survivors planning to bury the dead and pack up and out afterwards. Din tells Paz that they’ll have to relocate, and Paz responds matter-of-factly when he says “This is the Way.” It’s an acknowledgment.

In the last episode the Armorer even says that they knew the cost of what would come from revealing themselves; they’re a pragmatic bunch, and I’m certain that some portion of them escaped, though they may now be spread out across the galaxy a little bit more now. Bittersweet, but realistic.
