for people unpacking religious abuse and fundamentalist upbringings, the real way to heal yourself is to stop allowing value systems complete and utter control over your life. only you can fully define your own beliefs and how your experiences shape them; don't let value systems redefine you. you should never have to fully remake yourself for any belief system. you should not have to 'repent' or unmake yourself, or shave yourself down to fit into a new mold.
if you must find a new community, find out the core of what they really believe. figure out if it matches your own. find a belief system that matches what you prioritize, the world you want to see, and how you can contribute to that on a small-scale. never have blind faith. find groups where asking questions and good-faith debate is not just tolerate, but encouraged.
don't just run in the exact opposite direction of the systems that hurt you. because i promise you, if you don't know what you're running to, there will be groups, or individuals, that take advantage of your blind faith and vulnerability. they will tell you what you want to hear, and tell you who else you could be, with them. but there is nothing wrong with you, at your core. find a group that is willing to to work with who you are, and who actually is interested in positive change in the world around them. not just a dismantling of the old, but a positive contribution to the world.
