Ever since they put Sam as Cap both in 2014 comics & setting it up in phase 3 MCU to now Marvel's been pushing really hard to "correct" Steve's legacy in only being Cap in name & being more of an anti-government rebel. With Sam as Cap they push hard to make Sam's Captain America a blaring patriotic jingoism ad with neoliberal representation... You'd never have seen Steve be the bodyguard of the president of the USA as a premise of a story 🙄

It's annoying in its own right because along with the America patriot propaganda it logically follows ofc for characters like Sabra & her terrorist actor to easily appear in these stories with some Zionist propaganda.

But it's just really annoying to put it lightly how much Marvel - ever since first putting Sam Cap to page in 2014 - worked overtime to undermine Steve's character making CW a de facto IM movie & painting Steve as in the wrong  for being against the US gov authority & overall stripping back & removing Steve's righteous anger at the US State for what they did with Shieldra, or how FATWS compares its enthusiastically patriotic protagonist to make Steve look retroactively worse

& likewise precluded Bucky's post-WS character arc entirely & retroactively demonized his character as the insufficiently patriotic & therefore untrustworthy one. His whole backstory setup in CATWS painted the US gov in a bad light & culpable via Shieldra, so ofc Bucky gets villainized in phase 3 & likewise FATWS paints Buck at fault for being a target of continuous state violence & institutionalization while Sam- an agent of the state, part of the literal USAF -is presented as moral center while telling Buck he deserves to be at the whim of the US state and blamed for WS crimes the gov funded via Shieldra. Bucky gets surveilled & arrested & monitored by the same US State which funded the supersoldier mindcontrolled assassin program they blame him for while Correctly Patriotic Uncle Sam is shown as a Good US Soldier by contrast while Bucky's story gets retconned & swept under the rug for being to inconvenient to the Patriotic direction they went in.

The propaganda really ramped up with the ink and pages of Sam Cap drying off & becoming their new brand, but marvel's audience who tbh enjoy lapping at the Mouse 's propaganda pool refuse to see beyond the superficial aesthetics which is WHY US media frequently & purposefully chooses these aesthetics & act like neoliberal representation in oppressive structures is radical or progressive.

Which makes all the performative shock over Sabra in BNW fall flat since Sam Cap as a Marvel rebrand is defined by doubling down on Cap as a patriotic literal agent & defender of the US government. Sabra's inclusion is entirely ideologically consistent with what Sam Cap is about FFS, in FATWS the only other character besides Bucky who was exploited by the US gov is Isaiah who CORRECTLY outlines the relationship btwn America & Black ppl & Sam wholly dismisses him as crazy! THAT is was SamCap is about: telling Black ppl to STFU & be patriotic Obama style, but ppl are acting like Sabra is "ruining" Sam's otherwise totally not at all propagandistic stint as a now more patriotic 🇺🇸flag laden hero while America funds multiple genocides as the USA has always done since it's inception.

I haven't watched the trailer (and tbh don't intend to... too depressing) so I can't really comment on specifics of this.

But I will say that I was thinking the other day how MCU's complete refusal to do any Cap character properly, but especially Steve, had the knock-on effect of making it impossible to do a SamCap well too.

Steve was supposed to be impoverished / multiply disabled / ideologically Antifa / feminist / pro-union / New Deal Democrat / Irish-Catholic / urban underdog, etc. And it would make perfect sense for a modern black man to accept the legacy of all that, if Steve had been adapted properly.

In deleting all that and assigning to the mantel what America represents instead, they've turned the shield from an honour into an albatross.

But it's still contradicting their own canon to do so.

Because even the de-yassified MCU Steve never embodied America; he merely set an example to America.

Isaiah should not plausibly believe Steve's shield represents something bad -- as someone who knows nothing about Captain America would -- as if MCU canon!Steve never did any of the good things he did with it.

(This could've been a beat addressed in the main Cap movies; eg. someone assumes Steve is a Republican and his baffled response is 'huh??!')

Following canon, Sam's logical response to that should've been 'wtf it doesn't mean any of that where did you get that from??' not 'yeah but I want to represent that anyway.'

Isaiah correctly lampooned what America's legacy is... but no one bothered to point out that's not what Steve and his shield have represented. Not even the landlord-white version of him we have in the MCU.

That failure makes a nonsense of Sam's entire friendship with Steve.

Why would Sam be friends with the willing bearer of America's bad legacy?

Why would a decent Steve be friends with someone who wants to represent a bad legacy (maybe EG Steve would!) and so on and so on.

Though I guess it's no dumber than Steve not killing Peggy on sight for colluding with Nazis for decades, huh? 😕

I'm looking forward to all the jokes Sam is going to make about Isaiah being a brainless killing machine (y'know, to show what bros they are?)

And when he comes out at the end of it and tells Isaiah he needs to "do the work" to apologise properly for what he did while controlled.

Or perhaps he will suddenly magically understand the concept of innocence, now? 🤔

Sam siding with the authorities might be sadly consistent with the spirit they've taken him in (I've pointed it out before, but it is IC for him to be, eg. a dick to Bucky. Yer man's been doing that since day one).

But it at the very least it contradicts Sam's canon to willingly guard Ross, a man who threw him in enhanced-people-Gitmo like a "common criminal," to paraphrase Sam himself.

(Hey, why would the man who threw Sam in prison later trust Sam to guard him? Is it just a set up to screw Sam over again? Okay, but why would Sam fall for something so openly implausible? Are they giving him the idiot ball?)

The MCU are masters of 'we don't understand what this action we've assigned the character actually shows about them.' Or when they are assigning character actions that contradict past actions.

And they sure as fuck don't know what made CATWS a good movie.

It’s always on Tik tok tooo like I rejoined Tik tok around a month ago after like a whole year or smth and so I started consuming Ninjago content form there too- and as a fan coming from tumblr it was soooo ….UUGHSHS

Like the edits adn hcs are great- there’s a lot of cool , sweet, Ninjago fans there but omg the comment sections can be SOOO annoying sometimes 😭😭 if I see one more person complain about the new character designs I’m gonna have to hack into the Tik tok headquarters and delete that app cuz I swear y’all r pissing me off too much💀💀 there’s always these people having to be like “ugh old Ninjago was better 😒😢” and shit like that and AUAHSHJSB

It’s even worse when u notice that it’s someone who like watched it only when they were a kid and happens to stumble upon some edit and decides to shit on how different it is or looks just cuz or nostalgia. Or like I saw a person go “oh I used to watch Ninjago but then after the movie they changed their designs…and they looked just so different like Zane was super robotic…Kai’s hair was so different ..(etc etc I don’t remember exactly what they said but i do remmeber them mentioning Zane’s robotic appeal which was already a thing before the movie?? And smth else ab another character) and I just…I just couldn’t do it “ SOMETHING along those lines in a way that sounded soo dramatic like I’m sorry you literally missed our on SEASON 8 because you got petty that they looked dif….

AND LOOK - I UNDERSTAND that change can be very deteriorating for some people - and I understand not watching a show cuz of the style or how it looks- but the design changes didn’t change for the worse?? Like at all- and the animation peaked after the movie cuz of the budget increase as well as the story like omg…watching season 8 as I binge rewatched Ninjago (cuz I was getting back into it) was so refreshing and I would even say I was magnified. Because of how the tone changed but in a good way, uk? Not only did like the story feel so much more captivating (for me) but exciting and interesting like DIEBWIHAY!:28!2@. And honestly? I PERSONALLY liked more these designs than the last ones. So the fact that people would pass off the opportunity to watch such a great season just because things are kinda different now. Stop assuming the worst just cuz something is different from what your used to. I understand that the change must be very like/ impacting for fans back then when they suddenly changed the designs that they had gotten used to and loved, but at the end of the day, being so clung to nostalgia just ends up ruining things for your just having a closed mind to discovering and experiencing new things that you might actually really like and enjoy, and honestly ruin it for others. Because you just have to ruin the mood by being all grumpy and upset everytime anyone brings up that new different thing.

That’s brings us to dragons rising, where people look at some snippets about it and automatically assume the worst like “ugh what did they do to Jay and coke they aren’t here 😢😒 “ or “ugh now one will ever replace morro as the master of wind- who the hell is this stupid pick me girl 😕🙄”(referring to Euphrasia and yes I have actually seen people calling her a pick me girl…) or even the example given by op ab wyldfire and Kai…and it feels like they’re already walking into these plataforms with a closed mind and looking at these spoilers already expecting the worst because I mean let’s be honest, any kind of change to them will be bad anyways so there’s no way of conforming to these ppl. Like I don’t know what they expected, obviously it isn’t gonna be the same as before it’s a basically a new series(a light spinoff) so of COURSE it’s gonna have new characters (with elemental powers because ofc it just makes everything more fun and interesting and etc) of COURSE they’re exploring new concepts and worlds and etc and this whole new freshness is also the reason why so many people love it because for many of us at least it does feel like Ninjago (heck they’ve been to the moon and the depths of the ocean I don’t think you can really pin point what feels like Ninjago or what not - uk what I mean? ) and yet it also offers so many new concepts and adventures for our favourite characters to go through as well as new characters - that not only introduces new dynamics but also helps build even more character for not only these new ones but for the old ones! And add new character arcs and etc (like Lloyd becoming a master or Kai having to deal with Wyldfire) . Just because an era is over doesn’t mean the new one will be trash or is Inherently bad. Keep an open mind and stop assuming the worst just cuz the old is dead. You should have seen the end of that era coming ever since it began.

AND YES- your totally entitled to proffering the og designs and the older seasons! Like obviously I should k be saying this. As well as you have every right to just simply dislike other seasons or the newer designs cuz they’re not your cup of tea. The problem begins when someone just starts blindly hating just because of their nostalgia and hate towards change - all meanwhile not actyakky knowing anything about this new thing and not even bothering to do any more thinking about it,research, or simply giving it a chance. I have literally never seen a post like that on Tumblr. If anyone was saying she's the Elemental Master of Fire, they were generally confused, and didn't know she was the Elemental Master of Heat.

But fans on Instagram & TikTok (not all, but quite a lot) literally just use her to hate on the new seasons.

Ugh I’m so sorry you have to deal with this 😭 unfortunately the bots run rampant here and it’s really freaking annoying! I’m not sure if there is a way to stop them from following you but you can block and report them. I usually block if I catch them because I don’t want them commenting weird shit or advertising on my posts.

I’m not sure Tumblr can do much about them unfortunately, because I feel like they are always going to find away around it 🙄 I don’t know if anyone else might have some suggestions or have found a way to get less of them? I do think you can “hide” your profile from searches tho! Maybe that would help??

The Only Thing You Let Hold You it's my longest fic, I think it has the best character arc I've ever written, and I like legit leveled up from writing, pretty much everything I do for writing long fic I'm serious about now comes from how I wrote that fic

11. Has a fic you’ve written ever caused issues/controversy?

🙄 several unfortunately, nothing in the style of like bnf causing a ruckus over social media but there have been fics I've written that have gotten negative reviews/comments

like idk what problem people have with Character but on both ffnet and ao3 going all the way back to 2013 when I started posting it, it's received by far the most criticism of any I've ever written, like enough for me to stop writing it for like 5 years and I don't ever go back to read the early reviews

Piece By Piece got shit for having a gender bend even though there are a good number of fem!Stiles fics and like I'd written gender bended characters before this fic tho they're deleted now and they never got flack

people got weirdly entitled when I stopped writing Stories Lived like lack of engagement wasn't reason enough to stop writing and that I should tag it discontinued even though I gave it an outline ending which no one had a problem with for Double Trouble

I knowingly courted trouble with In the Spaces Between by saying Missouri is not Midwestern in the a/n because I'd seen people say it IN THE TEXT OF THEIR FIC from the pov of a GERMAN living in CANADA who in all probability has no way to know or give a shit about whether Missori is Midwestern so I had to say it because I see that as a characterization issue beyond it just being a nonsensical view in my opinion but I still think it's rude to comment on an author's note and say nothing about the fic itself which is what people were doing so I had to freeze a thread for the first time

and then sometimes people just think the comment sections on my fics are reddit and ignore my fic to talk about historical events, like please, just find my tumblr if you really want to argue about royal succession, you'll lose but you can do it

most of the comments I get on my fic are good but these are all annoying enough to stick out

idk I feel like I've got character arcs handled so better world building, maybe more profound themes than just like personal self improvement cuz I feel like a lot of my fic lately could be boiled down to it's worth the effort to improve yourself and I'm not saying it's a bad message

but idk I think I should be pushing myself to have deeper meanings than just that
