Disability Services and Support Organisation
Disability Services & Support Organisation are organisations that provide help for people with physical or intellectual disabilities, as well as their family members. They often provide free or low-cost help with transitioning from a nursing facility or other institutional care to the community. They also offer counseling for emotional distress and other issues relating to disability, such as depression or anxiety. These organisations are usually based in New York, though some have chapters or affiliates around the country.
The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) coordinates services for New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and autism spectrum disorders. It provides direct services and supports to people with developmental disabilities and their families through a network of about 500 nonprofit service providing agencies.
Its role is to ensure that people have the opportunities and tools they need to live their lives to the fullest, achieve economic self-sufficiency and experience equality in every facet of community life. Its programs and initiatives are built on nationally regarded best practices in postsecondary disability services.
The Disability Rights Advocates of New York State (DRAONYS) is a private, nonprofit organization that provides advocacy and legal services for individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities. It is based in Albany, and has chapters across the state of New York. Its mission is to empower people with disabilities and their families through advocacy, training, and education.
DRAONYS also has programs for youth with disabilities, and their parents and caregivers. Its programs include the Young Leaders Academy and Youth Voices Matter! DRAONYS publishes a newsletter, the Advocate, and holds annual conferences for members.
Many communities have disability-focused social groups or clubs, which are often affiliated with a particular church or organization. These can be a great way to meet other people with similar interests. Some are focused on specific health conditions, such as blindness or hearing loss, while others are more general in scope.
Increasing attention is being paid to the issue of community support for persons with disabilities in LMICs. Many international organisations have made commitments to take action toward this goal.
Several national organizations exist to promote the rights of people with disabilities, and to encourage self-advocacy. Among these are the National Rehabilitation Association, and its 56 local chapters; the Association of State Centers for Independent Living; and the Society for Disability Studies, an academic field that looks at societies through different lenses, such as women’s studies or African-American studies. Its journal, Disability Studies Quarterly, is an open access, multidisciplinary publication that attracts scholars in the humanities, disability rights advocates and other social justice activists. It is available online and in print.
My Horizon Community Services was created for people with special needs, friends and families who need a better way to access individualised disability support. We provide a wide range of tailored, flexible and quality disability services and support coordination for people living with disabilities for their choice and needs. We are based in Brisbane, Queensland.

Navigating the Emotional Terrain: Brisbane Lawyers' Role in Family Law Cases
Family law cases are often fraught with emotion, presenting unique challenges for individuals and families involved. From divorces to child custody battles, the emotional toll can be overwhelming. In Brisbane, where family dynamics intertwine with legal proceedings, having the right support can make a world of difference. Here, we explore the emotional impact of family law cases and how Brisbane lawyers can provide invaluable assistance during these trying times.
Tumblr media
Understanding Emotional Strain:
Family law matters trigger a wide range of emotions, including sadness, anger, fear, and uncertainty. The dissolution of a marriage or disputes over children can evoke deep-seated feelings of loss and upheaval.
Empathetic Guidance:
Brisbane lawyers specializing in family law recognize the emotional complexities of their clients' situations. They offer more than just legal counsel; they provide empathetic support and a listening ear during moments of distress.
Stress Management:
Legal proceedings can exacerbate stress and anxiety levels. Experienced Brisbane lawyers help clients navigate this stress by providing reassurance, managing expectations, and offering strategies for coping with emotional upheaval.
Clear Communication:
Effective communication is paramount in alleviating emotional strain. Lawyers in Brisbane ensure clients are well-informed about the legal process, potential outcomes, and their rights, fostering a sense of empowerment and control amid uncertainty.
Child-Centric Approach:
In cases involving children, Brisbane lawyers prioritize the well-being of the child above all else. They advocate for solutions that serve the child's best interests while minimizing the emotional impact of the legal proceedings on them.
Alternative Dispute Resolution:
Brisbane lawyers explore alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation or collaborative law, to mitigate conflict and reduce emotional distress. These approaches prioritize amicable resolutions, fostering a sense of closure and healing for all parties involved.
Community Support Networks:
Brisbane lawyers often connect clients with additional support networks, including counselors, therapists, and support groups. These resources offer emotional support outside of the legal realm, helping clients navigate the emotional aftermath of family law cases.
Empowerment through Knowledge:
By educating clients about their legal rights and options, Brisbane lawyers empower them to make informed decisions. This knowledge instills confidence and agency, easing the emotional burden of navigating complex legal proceedings.
Conclusion
Family Law Cases in Brisbane come with a unique set of emotional challenges. However, with the support of compassionate and knowledgeable lawyers, individuals can navigate these turbulent waters with greater resilience and strength. By providing empathetic guidance, stress management strategies, and child-centric approaches, Brisbane lawyers play a crucial role in helping clients weather the emotional storms associated with family law matters.

What You Should Know About Mental Health Retreats
The Hoffman Process is the development of seven-day mental health retreats through independent research. Founder Bob Hoffman used extensive mental health knowledge alongside Volker Krohn to design a process fit for all regions. Recent studies by the University of California show The Hoffman Process to have long-lasting effects in reducing our clients' depression, anxiety, and anger. Our process has proven to increase compassion and forgiveness with a deeper connection to spiritual dimensions.
Tips for Getting More Value From Your Mental Health Retreat Brisbane
Many have sought the professional help of our mental health retreats in QLD. To get the most out of your retreat and progress, we recommend the following:
Your material objects may not be the reason for your decrease in mental health. We understand particular objects may have sentimental meaning and make you sad, but these emotions come from within and not from the object. Discarding everything that makes you unhappy is not the solution to working on your mental health. We recommend coming to the entire retreat to ensure you work through trauma in your life from childhood through to adulthood.
After your retreat, you will feel like a completely different person. You will think differently and act differently; however, merging the new you into the life of the old you, is a process. You need to remain calm and avoid going back to old habits. Making necessary lifestyle changes can be beneficial, but changing everything at once can cause more chaos.
Being able not to care what other people think is a gift or a well-taught skill. The Hoffman Process has undergone various designs to enable you with the skills and thought patterns to care what people think and not let it affect you. Letting it affect you is what has the major negative impacts on your life.
Benefits Of Mental Health Retreats in Australia
At our retreats, you will have the needed support and encouragement along with a safe environment to reach your full potential. You will undergo numerous emotions; our facilitators will be with you every step of the way. We provide counselling and practises to ensure the most benefits from your experience.
We use a non-invasive methodology and experiential methods to ensure your comfort and safety. Our main aim is your wellbeing. We have found that programmes containing an interfering angle are ineffective.
Our facilitators are there to help you become conscious of your negative thoughts and behaviours and to allow you to access your inner strength, personal empowerment, and compassion.
We will help you reduce the driving force that’s linked to self-destructive behaviours. These behaviours tend to affect us more subconsciously than we realise, and we help you identify these issues.
About The Hoffman Process
Bob Hoffman founded the Hoffman Process back in 1967, and it has been operating in Australia since 1989 and expanded to Singapore in 1995. Senior Supervising Director Volker Krohn is the facilitator trainer for Australia, is on the board of Directors of the Hoffman Institute International where he continues to inform the ongoing integrity and development of the Hoffman Process globally.
All facilitators receive extensive training and experience in the Hoffman Process and have certification in counselling, psychology and/or psychotherapy. Training for qualifying facilitators commences after becoming a Hoffman Graduate.
Contact us for any further questions regarding our retreats or facilitators' program. We look forward to working with you.

The Role of Counselling in Overcoming Drug and Alcohol Challenges
Dealing with drug and alcohol issues can be incredibly challenging. Whether you or a loved one is struggling, finding the right support is crucial to navigating the road to recovery. One of the most effective forms of support is professional counselling. It provides a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your struggles, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and take actionable steps toward a better future.
Understanding the Benefits of Counselling
Counselling focuses on understanding the underlying causes of substance use. Many individuals turn to substances as a way to cope with stress, trauma, or other mental health conditions. By addressing these root causes, counselling can help break the cycle of addiction. It also provides strategies to handle triggers, manage cravings, and maintain sobriety.
Counselling is not a one-size-fits-all process. It can involve various methods, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and mindfulness practices. A skilled counsellor will work with you to identify which methods resonate most effectively with your needs. This personalized approach is one reason why drug alcohol counselling has proven so successful for many on their path to recovery.
Tumblr media
Building a Supportive Environment
An essential part of recovery is having a strong support system. Counsellors play a key role in building this environment by offering consistent support, encouragement, and guidance. They help individuals recognize their strengths, set realistic goals, and celebrate progress, no matter how small. This ongoing support can make a significant difference in maintaining motivation and commitment to a sober lifestyle.
In addition to one-on-one counselling, group therapy can be an invaluable resource. Sharing experiences with others who understand similar struggles fosters a sense of community and belonging. It allows individuals to learn from each other, offer mutual support, and feel less isolated in their journey.
What to Expect from Drug and Alcohol Counselling
Entering counselling might seem daunting at first, especially when discussing deeply personal experiences. However, counsellors create a safe, confidential space where you can openly express your feelings without fear of judgment. During the initial sessions, your counsellor will likely explore your history with substance use, current challenges, and personal goals for recovery. This helps tailor a treatment plan that suits your unique situation.
As counselling progresses, you’ll work together to develop coping strategies, improve communication skills, and build a healthier lifestyle. The goal is to empower you with tools and skills to handle future challenges, reducing the risk of relapse.
Taking the First Step Toward Recovery
Deciding to seek help is the first and most important step toward recovery. Drug alcohol counselling offers a structured and supportive approach to overcoming addiction and reclaiming control over your life. It’s about more than just quitting substances; it's about understanding the underlying issues, building healthier habits, and creating a brighter future.
If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, consider reaching out to a professional counsellor. With the right support and strategies, recovery is possible. Take that step today, and start your journey toward a healthier, more fulfilling life.

A Guide to Disability Support Services
Disability support services help people with disabilities gain access to knowledge and skills, enabling them to achieve greater happiness and independence. However, some individuals are unaware that these services are accessible to them or don’t understand the advantages of such programmes. This guide will explore the many ways that disabled people can benefit from disability support services, from behavioural assessments to lifestyle support.
A key aspect of disability services is financial assistance. This can be a lifeline for disabled people who would otherwise be unable to meet their living expenses. It can also boost their self-esteem and sense of self-worth, as it demonstrates that they are able to take care of themselves rather than rely on family members.
Similarly, disability support services can help disabled people get the equipment they need to live independently. This can range from scooters or power chairs, to walk-in tubs and showers. In addition, some private industries that produce these products work directly with disability services to ensure that the disabled person has the ability to obtain the equipment they need.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government-funded program that provides disability support services to eligible Australians. It works in partnership with each participant and their families or carers to create a unique plan that addresses the individual’s goals, needs and aspirations. The NDIS can include daily living assistance, therapy services, transport assistance and specialist disability supports and equipment. In some cases, it may also include social and community participation programs.
Another advantage of disability support services is the emotional and psychological support they provide. These can be in the form of counselling, which can help disabling people overcome anxiety and depression. It can also be in the form of recreation and social activities, which can promote self-esteem and improve mental health. In addition, disability support services can also offer assistance with the day to day activities of disabled people, allowing them to live more independent lives.
A disability support service can also assist with finding housing that accommodates a person’s specific disability, or navigating the housing market in general. They can also assist with finding employment and pursuing education, and providing advocacy for their clients’ rights in the workplace. They can even help a disabled person receive government benefits such as SSDI and SSI.
The Disability Support Services office at Colorado School of Mines is committed to ensuring that all students have equal access to the university’s courses and programs, regardless of their disability status. We provide a variety of accommodations to qualified undergraduate, graduate and professional students, including the following:
My Horizon Community Services was created for people with special needs, friends and families who need a better way to access individualised disability support. We provide a wide range of tailored, flexible and quality disability services and support coordination for people living with disabilities for their choice and needs. We are based in Brisbane, Queensland.

Fortunately, many things can help reduce feelings of loneliness. You can get in touch with a community organization to discuss support services. Additionally, you can try to learn new skills or listen to music. Spending time alone can give you an opportunity to reflect on what is happening in your life.

During a life stage transition, such as adolescence, a person may experience disorientation. In some cases, the disorientation can be a symptom of a mental disorder, and the person may need to seek treatment. However, in other instances, the disorientation is a temporary state, which may disappear within days.
Life stage transitions can be an emotional and physical challenge for young people, as they are preparing to make significant changes in their lives. They might be going to school, starting TAFE or university, or moving away from home and friends. These changes can be stressful and affect their general health. If a person is experiencing disorientation, they can use objects and images to help them orient themselves.
Caregivers can play a role during a life stage transition. They are concerned about the well-being of the individual and may want to reduce confusion as a way of keeping the person more composed. This may involve using idiosyncratic techniques, such as pre-emptive conversational strategies and social environment shifts.

Counselling - How Do You Choose A Good Counsellor?
Mental health counselling helps people deal with problems and cope with stress. It's been found to be helpful in a variety of different situations, such as managing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and more.
There are a number of things you should consider when choosing a counselling therapist:
- They should have experience in the area you need help with.
- They should be able to provide tailored therapy based on your individual needs.
- They should be licensed and certified by the appropriate body (in some cases this may be mandatory).
- They should have a good reputation and be well-respected by their peers.
 Types of Counselling
There are several different types of counselling, and each has its own unique benefits and drawbacks. Here is a brief overview of the most popular types:
 1. Psychodynamic counselling is based on the principles of psychoanalysis, which are a type of psychological theory that focuses on the unconscious mind and its role in human behaviour. This approach is often used to help survivors work through difficult memories and emotions.
 2. Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of counselling that focuses on changing negative thought patterns that lead to negative behaviours. CBT is usually used to treat anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and substance abuse problems.
 3. Motivational interviewing (MI) employs motivational tactics to help people change their attitudes and behaviours related to their problems. MI typically starts with a baseline assessment, during which the counsellor identifies the patient's primary concerns and motivations for seeking treatment. The goal of MI is not only to help the patient address their issues head-on but also to build self-confidence and hope so that they are more likely to persist with treatment over time.
 4. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) uses an electric current focused superficially on the scalp to stimulate specific areas of the brain. TMS has been shown to be effective in treating chronic pain, depression, anxiety disorders
 Conclusion
Counselling is an important mental health service that can help you deal with issues such as stress, anxiety, addictions, depression, separation and divorce. There are a variety of types of counselling that can best suit your needs, so it's important to choose a therapist who is experienced in the type of counselling you are looking for.
