(  MUN QUESTIONS  /  accepting !!  )   웃 : an existing character you’ve played in the past that you miss?  // answered for @jigento
Tumblr media
maybe because i just finished talking about the noir genre, but i really miss playing luck gandor from baccano!  he was one of my earliest muses, and one that i clicked with immediately.  i don’t think i’ve ever had a muse write as naturally and easily as him, both in terms of dialogue and narration.  with an unflappable pokerface and a quiet resignation to what he feels is his own inadequacy, he is the youngest of three brothers at the head of a mafia family in 1930′s new york …  and underwent an unusual change after drinking a mysterious elixir.  c:  i’m working on a multi-muse blog, and once it’s up, he’ll definitely be on it!
✔ : what drew you to the character you currently play? what types of characters are you generally drawn to?
i must admit, when i look at my muse roster, i see mostly “tough guys with hearts of gold” and “whack-jobs.”  i guess majima kind of bridges the gap between both, making him ( dare i say ) the perfect muse.  haha  –  !  i’ve played so many characters by now, that it’s almost hard to pin down what i usually gravitate towards, but i can certainly say that by and large, i tend to prefer characters with very boldly defined qualities, whether they’re remarkably loud and rambunctious like majima, or remarkably buttoned-down and introspective like luck.  if they’re a snob, they’re an extreme snob.  if they’re a femme fatale, they’re an extreme femme fatale.  if they’re subtle, they’re … well … extremely subtle, if that makes sense?  but you’ll very rarely find me playing characters who are just kinda “chill dudes.”  if you do, it’s probably just that i haven’t caught my stride with them yet.
for majima in particular, i admit that it was yakuza 0 that made me consider him more seriously as a character.  he’s just so relatable and sympathetic as a young man …  then, having played y0, i went back to yakuza 1 / kiwami & yakuza 2 … and then i fell in love.
majima is a character who goes through some pretty extreme changes throughout the series.  he’s a serious, slightly irritable young man ( with a lovable inner-dorkiness ) trying to tough his way through an awful situation in yakuza 0, he’s basically the joker in yakuza 1 & 2, and by the time we get towards the end of the series, he’s mellowed into a kind of a crime boss bad ass type, whose zaniness still rears its head in battles, but is much more subdued in casual interaction.  admittedly, it’s the wild card majima of yakuza 1 - 3 that i tend to default to, personally.  i just love the in-your-face gall and strangely endearing childishness that defines his character in those installments; the sort of “action movie / guy who would jack your car and shoot the president in an antonio banderas film” vibe mixed with a secret weakness for children and a lot of tragic back story.  c’est magnifique!  ( /smooches fingertips like a gourmet chef ~ )
✈ : what do you think is your reputation in your role-play community?
the yakuza rp fandom is tiny, man … that being said, it’s probably the largest fandom rp community i’ve belonged to in a long time, HAHA …  there are a couple other majima rpers out there who have been super friendly to me!  and one of the things that i’ve enjoyed in talking to them is seeing that everyone has their own slant on his character.  there are some who see him as very heroic and emphasize his hidden sense of morality; others who seem to connect with the tragic aspects of him, his personal struggles and the hurdles he faces … … … and then there’s me, crack majima.  HAHAHA!!  oh well.  c:  i’m not really sure i’ve been in the comm long enough to make much more of an impression than that, but i hope people at least find my blog amusing!
ღ : what sorts of plots/characters/scenes do you have the most difficulty writing, and why?
WRITING IS HARD IN GENERAL.  EVERYTHING IS HARD TO WRITE, MAN.  EVERYTHING!!  I CAN’T REMEMBER THE LAST TIME I DIDN’T HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME WRITING ANYTHING.  WRITING IS HARD!!!  … but i guess … characters with very “modern” sensibilities tend to be the hardest for me to write, if that makes sense?  i tend to be most comfortable writing in sort of poetic styles, so ‘old fashioned’ settings or characters that lend themselves to thoughtful, poetic descriptions and narration come the easiest to me.  people who quietly contemplate the world, for example, and for whom there is a sort of melancholy lyricism to that last beer on the counter before them; or perhaps characters of a more wildean nature, alive to the mystery and beauty of the world, even if barbed with a cynic’s wit.
characters with more modern, hard-bitten, and unromantic views of the world are much harder for me to write … hence the reason it takes me 800 years to write anything on this blog, haha!  bc despite his vigorous nature, majima is pretty hard-bitten and unromantic … and while it’s not necessarily hard for me to come up with dialogue, it’s hard for me to translate that point of view into narration that i still find actually stylistically pleasing to read.
