Happy Caturday from Smarty Girl. (Late.)
She’s been behind the scenes lately. It was good to see her out and about from her room.

Rag dolly prototypes: the camel
The start of the camel with the wrinkled knees reimagined as an antique steiff inspired pull toy. He has a brown wool felt body with a dark brown mohair neck, which is separated from the head and gathered to prepare for a neck joint later. His head is made of six pieces, with a felt face and mohair sides and back and mohair and felt ears. Instead of being jointed, his legs are stationary to allow holes to be punched in the bottom of his feet later for wooden dowels to slide through, for him to be glued to his wheeled platform and allow him to remain standing. He will have glass eyes and an embroidered nose and possibly mouth.

okay I'm not going to liveblog Annabelle: Creation; I just have a lot of worldbuilding questions
supposedly the Mullins doll company has been around for "over 20 years" in the 1940s when the story begins, per the little brochure on the wall of Sam's (TERRIBLY LIT, DIRTY, POORLY-ORGANIZED) studio (HOW DOES HE WORK IN THERE). he doesn't seem old enough to have started it, so is it a family business? this means there were multiple decades' worth of Mullins dolls before The Nonsense went down
my big big question is: what is the collecting market for these dolls like?
does the fact that one of the primary dollmakers and his wife- the last of the line, I guess -died horribly in an occult incident also tied up with the tragic death of their young daughter have an impact on the perception of the dolls? clearly not by the 1960s when the couple from the first movie get hold of it, BUT Mullins dolls are already rare, highly expensive collectibles by that point. I imagine the Warrens' very public involvment and association with Annabelle will...make waves to say the least
are there rumors around Annabelle like the ones around Robert IRL- that she was cursed from the beginning, made to hurt some chils or other? do people constantly have to explain online that, no, she was made by Sam Mullins in the 1950s and is identical to some of his other dolls, so it's sheer random happenstance that that one has darkness associated with it, like Robert's Steiff origins? do collectors believe the legends of demonic activity associated with the Mullins family, or pooh-pooh them?
I mean, the rest of his dolls are fine, right? do you get YouTubers buying Mullins dolls at antique shops or estate sales, pretending they, too, are possessed for the clout? do the stories raise the value, or make the dolls untouchable?
what do the United Federation of Doll Clubs magazine articles on the Mullins company, its dolls, and its legacy look like? what do the Wikipedia pages look like?
this is literally the only aspect of the Conjuring-verse that interests me even a little bit, by the way

cheap steiff okapi plush for sale near me, but it's one of those antique plushies that can't be hugged and needs to sit on a shelf because it's so old and fragile, but it's in such good condition and it's so cute and i love okapis, but even a cheap steiff plush is still at least $30

Look at it though... it's adorable🥺

In other news I went to go play with my lil official Oz bunny and like. I have a very stupid thought, which is were the bunnies that Lacie bought that went on to become Oz handmade or mass-produced (or handmade for mass production)? Putting aside that stuffed animals (or at least stuffed animals as we know them) weren’t invented yet during the late 18th century-equivalent time period that the whole Sablier storyline took place in (the series isn’t trying for accuracy so it’s pretty reasonable to forgive this point), like. If the bunnies were in some way mass produced, are there more out there in the PH setting? Are the other ones coveted antiques because heeheehoo ye olde stuffie toys? Are they kept as museum pieces by the time of both the series proper and the 100-years-later epilogue? Is there an in-universe ye olde luxury plush toy manufacturer a la Steiff that made them? Did word eventually get out about “yeah two of these bunnies went on to become the B-Rabbit”, possibly more depending on how much the public learned about the events of the series? Did they develop a spooky reputation by the time of the epilogue because of the B-Rabbit thing combined with general aging? Do people make and manufacture and sell replicas of the bunnies, either because heeheehoo ye olde stuffie or because of spooky B-Rabbit lore? This is the real Pandora Hearts worldbuilding we need to ponder.
