Upgrade Your Kitchen with the Best Cast Iron Cabinet Pulls and Drawer Pulls!
Your kitchen is the heart of your home, and upgrading its look can breathe new life into your living space. One of the easiest and most effective ways to enhance your kitchen’s aesthetic is by updating your cabinet hardware. By choosing the best handles and incorporating Cast iron cabinet pulls you can achieve a stylish and cohesive look that transforms your kitchen.
Tumblr media
Choosing the Best Handles for Your Kitchen
Selecting the right handles for your kitchen cabinets is crucial. Not only do they need to be functional, but they should also complement the overall design of your kitchen. Here are some tips to help you choose the Cast iron cabinet pulls :
Consider the Style: The style of your cabinet handles should match the theme of your kitchen. For a modern kitchen, sleek and minimalist handles work best. For a more traditional or rustic kitchen, ornate or classic designs are ideal.
Material Matters : Cabinet handles come in a variety of materials, including stainless steel, brass, and bronze. Choose a material that matches other elements in your kitchen, such as the faucet or light fixtures.
Comfort and Functionality: Ensure the handles are comfortable to grip and easy to use. You’ll be opening and closing your cabinets frequently, so functionality is just as important as appearance.
Finish and Color: The finish and color of your handles can make a big difference in the overall look of your kitchen. Popular finishes include brushed nickel, matte black, and polished chrome. Choose a finish that enhances your kitchen's color palette.
Incorporating cast iron cabinet pulls:
Adding antique knobs to your kitchen can create a charming and unique look. These knobs can serve as statement pieces that draw attention and add character to your space. Here are some reasons to consider antique knobs:
Timeless Appeal: Antique knobs have a timeless charm that can add a touch of elegance and history to your kitchen. They often feature intricate designs and craftsmanship that are hard to find in modern hardware.
Unique Designs: Each antique knob is unique, offering a variety of designs that can make your kitchen stand out. From vintage floral patterns to classic geometric shapes, antique knobs can add a peronalised touch to your cabinets.
Mix and Match: Don’t be afraid to mix antique knobs with modern handles. This eclectic approach can create a balanced and interesting look. For example, you can use antique knobs on upper cabinets and modern handles on lower cabinets.
Quality and Durability: Many antique knobs are made from high-quality materials, ensuring they last for years to come. Their durability makes them a practical choice for a busy kitchen.
Where to Find the Best Handles and Antique Knobs
Finding the perfect hardware for your kitchen upgrade can be an exciting journey. Here are some places to look:
Local Hardware Stores: Many local stores offer a wide selection of cabinet handles and knobs. You can see and feel the products before making a purchase.
Online Retailers: Websites like Amazon, Wayfair, and Etsy provide a vast array of options. Shopping online allows you to compare prices and read customer reviews.
Antique Shops and Flea Markets: For truly unique and vintage knobs, visit antique shops and flea markets. These places often have hidden gems that can add a special touch to your kitchen.
Specialty Stores: Some stores specialize in high-end or custom cabinet hardware. These retailers can offer expert advice and high-quality products that cater to your specific needs.
Conclusion
Upgrading your kitchen with the cast iron cabinet pulls and incorporating antique knobs can significantly enhance the overall look and feel of your space. By carefully selecting handles that match your kitchen's style and adding unique antique knobs, you can create a beautiful and functional kitchen that reflects your personal taste. Explore various options, mix and match designs, and enjoy the process of transforming your kitchen into a stylish and inviting space.

Just an update on the ghost story. I'm working on it. Baby slows me down. Here's an excerpt.
The lights turned on and off at the worst possible time, no matter how many times she changed the bulbs. On cold nights, the vents blew ice, but on warm days they spit gusts straight from the pit of hell. Drawers opened and closed even when she kept Damian away from them. The opening tripled after she installed baby locks.
Still, she baby-proofed the house as well as she could. She put a baby gate across the rickety stair down to the unfinished basement. She put padding on the sharp edges of the doorframes and locks on the sullen black stove and plastic knob covers on the antique door knobs. Damian was crawling now, really running on all fours, and soon he'd walk. He was already pulling himself up on everything, standing against every vertical surface he could find.
She wanted this house to be safe. She needed it to be. She was desperate. Maybe that was why, when the drawer holding the knives slammed open one more time, she grabbed it and said, “Please. Please don’t.”
Please don’t what? She didn’t even know. Damian was wailing from his playpen, not hurt at all but bored, and all she said was “Please don’t.”
Slowly, the drawer slid shut.

Tumblr media
Zemo’s temporary office is airier, cozier. The lender of the space has much more modern taste, photos of the world’s capitals framed all around with some obscure foreign films intermingled.  A large daybed looks out a bay window in the front and a desk sits before a wall of shelves, white and pristine unlike his own antique mahogany and walnut.
There’s a sofa against the other wall and a minifridge in the corner, a kettle on top with a chest of tea bags and jar of instant coffee. Beside the daybed, a small square metal table with a dining chair set before it. He apologises at the impromptu set up as he deems it your own.
You set to unpacking his books on the shelf emptied for his occupation. He’s at the desk pulling open the drawers and shuffling through his things as he sorts them out. You glance along those things remaining in the other cubbies, a crystal bottle of pink perfume with a vintage style pump and dried roses.
It must be a woman. That makes you wonder. It is a rather generous favour.
You carry on in the hazy silence of a high summer noon. A sudden crackle interrupts the lull and you turn to watch Zemo twist the knob on a small yellow radio, flicking the antenna to catch a signal.
Through the static, you hear the intro of radio jockeys and the low intro of the next song. He continues his efforts until the reception clears and you can make out the retro tones of The Police.
Inside him, there's longing This girl's an open page Book marking, she's so close now This girl is half his age…
You don't know the song very well. Your father listens to some of that band, mostly the one about a castaway. You're grateful for the music, it fills the tedium of your work and eases the underlying nervousness that piques now and again. It comes to you that rarely did you spend so much time alone with Zemo.
“Ah, what a tedious day,” Zemo remarks as he rubs his lower back, standing behind the desk with a swoop of hair hanging forward, a sheen of sweat across his brow.
“It’s not so bad,” you chime, “it’s a nice place.”
“Oh yes, wonderful. My companion did say I could have full use of the home. My late nights need not be spent sleeping in a chair,” he chuckles and sits heavily in the leather seat, “ah, but the heat reminds me of my age.”
You keep a hold of the book in your hand and come closer, “are you alright?”
“Ah, I am only dramatic,” he waves you off and unbuttons his collar. “What one is that?”
He points and you look down to the novel in your hand. You bring it up and admire the tattered edges of the embossed cover; The Portrait of a Lady. You’ve never heard of it. It looks Victorian. You hold it out as you approach.
“Oh, yes, a classic. If not wildly unknown. I recommend it.”
You glance at it again and shrug. He chuckles and you look at him once more. He seems amused.
“First assignment, read it,” he taps the desk, “simple.”
“Pardon?”
“Oh yes, of course, it will aid you in our coming research,” he declares, “which I’m afraid I’ve not even shared my thesis with you. Hard to do prior to our delve into the literature. All I can say is we will be looking at a very common trope among writers, ancient, medieval, Victorian, near every era has had some fascination with the older man and the younger woman,” he pushes back his hair, trying to fix it as a stubborn strands sticks up at his crown, “it speaks often of the way of culture and society. The structural imbalances internalised by the author and characters alike.”
“Oh, wow,” you turn back with the book, “interesting.”
“It isn’t some new phenomenon or point of intrigue, but I shall explore it nonetheless. History is more than dates and boring wars,” he girds, “I always found the most interesting pieces to be the innately humanistic and what is more human than romance. Than what we perceive as love. Sex, at it’s basest, and companionship at its most genuine.”
“I never thought much of it, I guess,” you sit at the small table and lay the book down.
“But it is all around you. How many couples do you see pasted across tabloids and gossip blogs akin to Jane Eyre and her Rochester. A whole generation apart and yet they are lovers? How curious that we deify such a tale over and over.”
“Hmm,” you hum thoughtfully, cheeks touched with the warmth.
“As an older man, I suppose I notice it more often. Perhaps it is why it has stuck. I remain the eternal bachelor and can’t help but wonder at what element of youth draws these men so strongly to these women. It must be more than attraction, surely, but something deeper,” he puts his hands up as he explains his thoughts, “my preliminary assumption is that these stories are covert explorations of the male crises of middle age, countered in turn by the vulnerability of feminine youth and beauty.”
It sounds complicated but makes sense. While many would condemn an age difference so vast, there is a common fascination underlying these stories. Bronte is still regarded as romance, isn’t it? And you watched a few too many teen shows that presented similar gaps as forbidden love.
“I… yeah, I think I get it,” you say, “now that you say it.”
“Of course there is some reality to these tropes. Men’s worth as regarded in society has historically been economic, thus it lasts longer, whereas women were traditionally prized for their fertility and physical attributes. As muses, wives, mothers…” he seems to lose himself in a medley of racing thoughts, “and so we seek to bridge between fiction and fact.”
“Hmm, I never really considered it…” you shrug, “well, I’m young, I guess I just didn’t notice.”
“Ah, yes, naivete, another common theme to these stories. I’m afraid in this moment we are reenacting the most common steps of the dance; the young innocent enlightened by the weathered pessimist.” He laughs and claps his chest, “ugh, forgive me, I’ve some indigestion. A hair too much coffee.”
“Uh, yeah,” you open the cover and read the first page, printed with fading ink. You admire the intricate bold type of the title. “I suppose I should start reading?”
“At your leisure,” he stands, the chair lurching harshly. “We’ve only just got settled,” he walks across the room, close behind you as he stands by the daybed and peers out the tall window, “it is near lunchtime.”
“Is it?” You look over your shoulder.
“Are you hungry? I am a bit peckish. There is a bistro close by, me and the owner of this house frequent it when we argue about some dead philosopher or another.”
“Oh?” you let the book close as you put your hands in your lap. “I brought a sandwich–”
“Save it,” he insists, “let it be my treat. As a welcome and a show of appreciation for your hard work. I’ll admit, I think I was ambitious in packing. I likely won’t need all that we brought.”
You don’t argue. Your father says it often how once Zemo has an idea, he does not let it go. Besides, you won’t complain for a free meal.
“Alright,” you stand, careful not to hit him with the chair. You come close to him and smell the subtle tones of bergamot that cling to him, “what kind of food do they have?”
“Standard fare,” he looks at you, his dark eyes meeting yours before he inches back on his heels. He turns and clears his throat, “salad, sandwiches, soup. They have a cabbage soup which often runs out before I can even order.”
He goes to his chair and takes his blazer from the back of it, shrugging it onto his shoulders, “and dessert.” He smirks, “I know you’ve a sweet tooth, dear.”
You laugh. You’re sure your father mentions how he can rarely get a single cookie before the sleeve is empty. You grab your purse and approach the door as he does too, nearly colliding.
“Careful,” he warns as he touches your arm and beckons you ahead of him, “ladies first.”
You take his direction, his word hanging over you. Ladies. In that moment, you feel quite mature.
☀️
You sit at the table. You have a glass of sparkling water with a spear of lime over the brim. It’s a lot fancier than the chain restaurants your dad adores.
“A lot tamer than college, eh?” He asks as he pushes the lemon off the rim of his glass and watches it sink in the water.
“Oh, not really. I mostly studied.”
“You needn’t lie to me. I was a student once too. It is not all books and stuffy lectures. Well, I should know, I’ve accepted many a hangover as means for an extension,” he teases, “there is nothing wrong with indulging in the freedom of youth.”
“Really,” you say, “I didn’t really go out. My friends aren’t really into that scene. The most excitement I got was bubble soccer.”
“Oh, sounds… interesting.”
“It is. Kinda dangerous. You run around in these plastic bubbles and get bounced around trying to score a point,” you snort, “I was mostly on my back.”
“Adventurous,” he muses, “you made many friends?”
“A few. Classes are pretty big, it’s hard to know everyone.”
“Not like here,” he says, “and your professors? Did you like them?”
“Yeah, they were good. Well, except one, he was kind of… strict.”
“Ah yes, that type can drain the joy right out of the subject,” he tuts, “have you given any thought to what you’ll do after your degree? Another?”
“Uh, oh, no, I haven’t…” you sputter.
“Not to worry, you’ve time. But I warn you, it goes fast. Just look at me,” he plays with the streak of silver at his temple.
“Yeah,” you chew your lip.
“If you do consider a masters, you can always consider me,” he offers, “I take on assistants now and then. Of course, this year, I didn’t have any candidates. Better for it, I was abroad rather often.”
“Hmm, I’ll have to think about it,” you take a sip from your drink, “I’ll have to see what dad says. He is paying for all this.”
“He knows the importance of education. Even a man of craft can appreciate intellect,” he says, “even him.”
The waiter returns and sets down your plates. You thank him as your stomach growls at the smell of the grilled chicken wrap and fries. You notice that Zemo has opted only for a bowl of soup and crackers.
“Smells great,” you say as you carefully wiggle free the long toothpick, “thank you so much.”
“Not at all, it is my pleasure,” he picks up his spoon and stirs the soup, “lunch with a pretty young woman, I should thank you.”
“Uh, right” you murmur.
“You know I do tend to carry my shoe between my teeth with how often I put my foot in my mouth,” he kids, “my honesty does come off rather bluntly. I only mean, well, you’ve blossomed, yes? I can sense it in how you hold yourself, in how you take in the world around you. Curiosity is a very admirable quality.”
You don’t know what to say so you bite into your wrap. It’s a compliment, surely, but unlike any you’ve received before. Zemo’s way of talking, his demeanour, always keeps you on his toes. He’s eccentric but well-meaning. Your father always laughed whenever he blustered over his books vehemently. It was almost comical to think of the man as anything but a feckless scholar.
“There’s a lot to learn,” you swallow, “if college has taught me anything, it’s that.”

I’m doing some minor restoration on my dad’s mum’s writing desk. Dad was a woodworker so we would have been able to do a better job, especially as he had training and experience in antique reproductions. The desk is about a hundred years old, which isn’t that old but it’s showing its age. Dust can badly damage furniture which is part of what’s been happening. We brought it back from England over a decade ago and the wide swings in humidity levels in Minnesota has not helped. Very low and very high humidity levels in this state are not a friend of wood products. Giant cracks and fissures often appear on furniture meaning that part of my dad’s business was going back to people’s homes to make repairs and adjustments. The great thing about this desk is that it is very sound structurally. The legs and joints are in very good condition, the panels are in great shape, and all drawers work. Half the repairs are cosmetic. Some wood surfaces have started to peel but I can fix that with gentle ironing and compression and a touch of wood glue. Some old wood glue needs to be dissolved, so I can apply new glue, and put some wood panels back. Several drawer knobs are missing and some need to be put back. There is what I think is a secret drawer but I can’t get it open. Also, there is no key for this desk, at least not that I can find. All drawers slide well; only one is out of place. I need to go in and vacuum out some old cobwebs and bits. I might find a way to give it a bit of a polish but I won’t be refinishing it or re-staining it. I’ll post updates when I can!

The Padded Palace Act IV: Chapter 4
DISCLAIMER: This story contains diaper usage, crossdressing, inappropriate language, humiliation, masturbation/diaper sex, and other ABDL themes. I hope you enjoy!
-------------------------------------------------------------
*CREAK!*
The turgid, antique dresser squeaked angrily as Stacy pried open the heavy drawer. She gazed down at the array of pajama pants, soft t-shirts, and silky lingerie with a crooked smile. Having only packed a small selection of prissy dresses and babyish PJs, she was woefully unprepared when it came to the subject of Big clothing. Luckily for her, Latasha had plenty of options to choose from.
Dragging her fingertips along the lacy fabric of Latasha’s lingerie, Stacy contemplated going all out and dawning the salacious attire. To her surprise, merely clutching the lingerie was enough to make her face glow red with shyness. Despite her cool girl demeanor, she’d never gotten the opportunity to wear something so indubitably sexy. Balking from her grip on the buttery smooth negligee, she instead picked out a pair of cotton pajama bottoms and a simple, light yellow t-shirt with the words, Wine Mama, written in cursive across the bust.
With the clothing folded neatly in her hands, Stacy retreated to Latasha’s private lavatory. Unlike the compact nature of the downstairs bathroom, the master bathroom was far more expansive, possessing both a jacuzzi and a shower stall as well as a separate toilet. Though for as nice as the spacious latrine was, the bratty blonde was unphased thanks to the penthouse bathroom she had waiting for her at home. Setting the PJs down on the sink countertop, she slowly stripped down until only her nappy and diaper cover remained. She momentarily admired her perky, bare chest and athletic physique, contrasting the infantile nature of her lower undergarment. It was a stunning reflection, to say the least, but in order to continue, she would have to part with her precious padding.
Stacy let her hand gingerly trace her tightly swaddled hips before hooking her thumbs around the waistband of her plastic panties and cloth diaper. Goosebumps lined her thighs and forearms as a rush of fresh air brushed against her moistened crotch. “No more accidents,” she whispered to herself as if reminding her subconscious to secure her bladder. Shifting the diaper around her bodacious booty, she quickly stepped back as the sopping microfiber plopped down onto the tile floor. She then proceeded to tidy up by placing the swollen padding into the mesh laundry bag that she used for her soiled nappies. It was a caregiver’s job to keep the house clean, after all.
Opening the shower’s frosted glass partition, Stacy twisted the sterling silver knob to turn the water on. Her hand hovered beneath the clear, trickling liquid, waiting for it to warm to her liking. Once satisfied with the water’s temperature, she stepped into the stall, angling the showerhead downward to avoid wetting her hair. A full shower would certainly be overkill. Dispensing three pumps of citrus-scented body wash into her palm, she diligently washed her pelvic area free of all baby powder and lotion. Such puerile substances were unbecoming of an adult.
Capping off her two-minute shower by rinsing the suds away from her lower half, Stacy exited the glass booth, her soaking wet feet drenching the floor. She paid little mind to the drippy trail she left behind in her wake, focusing instead on procuring a towel. With a towel wrapped around her damp waist, the bougie-rich girl parked herself on the lip of the toilet to air dry. For the next ten minutes, she scrolled through Xwitter whilst the water droplets that decorated her legs and thighs slowly evaporated. Boredom would inevitably push her to manually wipe away the rest of the moisture but not until after she had quelled her social media addiction.
Now fully dry, Stacy returned to the pajamas she had set aside. A mischievous giggle escaped her lips as the cozy bottoms worked their way up her legs. She playfully snapped the elastic waistband against her hips. While she wasn’t keenly aware of it, she hadn’t gone without padding in nearly four months, making her commando status all the more foreign. Sliding on the t-shirt, she spun in front of the mirror to check out her slightly less-curvy reflection. “I feel more grown-up already,” she said, downplaying how much she missed the additional bulk around her posterior.
Forcing those childish, carnal desires from her mind, Stacy turned to leave the bathroom. However, she stopped just before breaking the bedroom’s threshold as her eyes spotted a pair of glimmering diamond earrings resting in the center of a small jewelry case. Curious how she would look in something so elegant, she sashayed back to the sink coyly and retrieved the formal fashion pieces, holding them up to each ear. Sadly, it didn’t matter how good the earrings looked pressed against her ear lobe. Without piercings, the most she could do was admire the diamond studs enviously. A stark chill crept up her spine at the idea of stabbing a hole through her ears.
Annoyed by her own immaturity, Stacy discarded the earrings back into the jewelry case and exited the bathroom in a huff. The discontented anti-Little flopped onto the bed and let out a painfully long groan, feeling significantly less Big than she had hoped she would by this point. That groan quickly transitioned into a strained sigh as she glared at the logline on her phone that read, “No new messages.”
Tossing her phone aside and scowling up at the popcorn-textured ceiling, Stacy's frustration finally hit its boiling point, “What the heck are Bigs even supposed to do?!”
-------------------------------------------------------------
*CREAK!*
The well-worn, wooden crib bars of Skye’s nursery crib squealed like a whining piglet as Connor gingerly lowered them to the floor. All the while, his eyes were fixed on Ellie, who was snoring as loud as a jackhammer. Knowing Ellie, her boisterous voice was almost certain to bring Stacy downstairs. It would be far safer to let her sleep.
Tiptoeing out onto the soft carpet with his sore, wobbly legs, Connor's ridiculously crinkly diaper and swishy nightie had him cringing with every sonorous step. A line of blush formed along his cheekbones as he was stricken by memories of his fateful evening and subsequent morning with Latasha during his first week at the Padded Palace. Oh, how far he had come, snickering as he looked upon his girly apparel and the poofy padding that accompanied it. Adding to the intense level of irony he felt was the fact that Riri currently resided with the very crib Latasha had seen fit to lock him within after stumbling upon the ABDL crime scene he had made of the nursery. If only she could see him now…actually, scratch that. He wasn’t certain he could handle the amount of blush that would be heaped onto him if Latasha found him in such a sissified state. Good thing he had the entire weekend to sort this mess out.
*WEE! WOO! WEE! WOO! WEE WOO!*
All of a sudden, miniature red and blue lights flashed as an ear-piercing alarm blared out across the nursery. Connor stumbled forward, his heart exploding out of his chest as he craned his neck back toward the source of the high-pitched noise. Lo and behold, his heedless footing had inadvertently awoken a cartoonish toy police cruiser. Thinking on his feet, he swiftly snatched a pillow from his crib and slammed it down on the cop car, exhaling cautiously as he did his best to reign in the shrill-sounding siren. Mercifully, the lights and sounds eventually ceased on their own.
Now that the fuzz had been dealt with, Connor’s attention was transferred to Ellie. He didn’t dare breathe until he heard her deviated septum echo out another snore. Resting his mouth against the pillow, he wheezed silently with relief. “I swear to Goddess, I’m going to rip out your batteries and disassemble you screw by screw,” he yammered under his breath, subduing his volume to ensure Ellie’s slumber went undisturbed. His transient outburst earned a few muted chuckles from Riri, whose anxiety was also settling after the toy car’s brief uproar.
Gawking at the floor with unblinking eyes, Connor wasn’t about to make the same mistake twice. He stepped lightly around the various stuffies and toys scattered throughout the nursery, an inquisitive expression forming on his face as he spotted the Palace’s vacuum standing in the middle of the room. Next to the free-standing cleaning device was a slew of vacuum markings covering about a quarter of the nursery’s carpet. Whoever had picked up after he passed out had done a crappy job, though he had a pretty good guess which of the girls was responsible.
Rolling his eyes at what was likely Stacy’s shoddy handiwork, Connor pushed forward at the speed of molasses until he reached Riri’s crib safely. In total, the entire excursion had only lasted a couple of minutes. But to Connor, who was absentmindedly dancing around Little Space, it felt as though he had survived a fraught and dangerous journey. Weight ascended from his shoulders as he sat down on the edge of the crib, the bars of which had been raised by Riri in preparation for his arrival. He was safe, at least so long as Stacy didn’t spring a surprise inspection on them in the middle of the night.
“Hi,” whispered Riri, poking a hand out from her soft, pink blanket cocoon and waving to Connor once again. She inched forward, scooching herself toward her feminized caregiver while making sure he still had plenty of space. With how vicious Stacy and, at times, Ellie had been, she wanted to ensure she was as delicate with his aftercare as humanly possible. She may have only been a Little but she had picked up a thing or two from her Daddy, Martin.
Waving back meekly, Connor’s eyes darted around the room awkwardly. He expelled an extended yawn, the late hour dangling over his head. “So…*YAWN*...wanna tell me why you beckoned me?” he said, bypassing pleasantries and getting straight to the point due to his rapidly escalating drowsiness.
Staring blankly at Connor, Riri had so many thoughts and questions circling her head that she wasn’t sure where to start. Having expected Connor to sleep until morning, she found herself somewhat unprepared. However, taking into consideration the copious amount of exhaustion encircling Connor’s eyes, she knew she couldn’t debate this in her head forever. Expelling the nervous air from her lungs, she peered deep into Connor’s eyes and asked simply, “How are you feeling?”

Yay Betty the 1954 Stove had been fixed!
Part of the problem is that the oven temperature gages you can buy for home use are apparently garbage and mine was off by 30 degrees. So the actual oven thermometer was only off by 20 degrees.
Ol' Darryll has been in the business just long enough to know that back in the day there used to be adjusters for the thermostats so you could retune them as they aged instead of just replacing them.
Here's mine under the oven knob.
Tumblr media
ID: A white porcelain stove edge with a chrome circular dial holder. In the center are three small flathead screws the center one has a thin metal triangular hand pointed up. End ID.
So what you do is loosen the two outer screws (do not remove) and that lets you adjust the center one colder or hotter.
Now this era of mechanical temperature sensors have an accuracy range of about 10 degrees up or down and are really sensitive. So he got it about 12 degrees under the dial temp and said if he adjusted it more it would probably end up too hot. So just nudge the dial a little over the line and it'll be fine. She'll never be as accurate as a modern digital thermometer but I'm also not a baker so it's fine for me. Mostly she's on tater tot duty.
This is such good news because a new temperature sensor is likely to be a hard to find antique part and this stove is before his time so he's not super familiar. Also the model and serial number have worn off for an extra part identifying challenge. (The temperature gauge itself might have a model number on it.)
Anyway, she's back plodding away after 69 years of continuous use. Not gonna get that kind of longevity out of a modern stove. (Just keep three carbon monoxide sensor in operation close by in case something goes wrong so she doesn't kill us all. She's also not as efficient as a modern stove (pilot lights and the oven takes a while to heat up). But she represents where we were as a society before corporate capitalism's enshitification of everything took hold. There's no reason we can't build appliances today that last at least 30 years, let alone 70.
I love her.
Tumblr media
ID: Betty, a white and chrome 1952-1954 O'Keefe and Merritt range with 4 burners, a griddle, three crumb catcher trays, a regular oven with a window, a broiler oven with a solid door, a pan drawer, and a service door. She has a tall back with a cover that can be folded up like a half shelf or folded out to cover the burners. The top has a (broken) timer, a baking temperature guide, salt and pepper shakers, a long narrow light, an electrical plug and a sculptural top design. On top of it is a pie bird, a fancy salt shaker, and an herb jar. Over it is a huge white and chrome hood that has a red mechanical timer and magnetic red spice jars stuck to it. There are white subway tiles behind it. With a black accent line. The surrounding cabinets are mint green with butcher block tops. A microwave, antique toaster, copper kettle, cooking utensils jar, and various other useful things are in the counter or in shelves. End ID.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From above the Arctic circle - to my windowsill.
Inuit art is mysterious, strong…the shapes are solid and carefully considered. Carved from a single chunk of incredibly heavy green stone, this hunter with his seal strapped to his back - delights me. The way he is standing. How his mittens curl inward, and the growl on his face…
Anyway…
He had to come with me.
Last Saturday was Dave Stuart’s first foray into the world of online auctioneering. I honestly didn’t think he could pull it off, but it’s OK to be proved wrong.
The room was PACKED with stuff for sale, most of which belongs to himself.
We have been deeply concerned for David, as he is behaving oddly. He learned how to bid on the online auctions, and has succumbed to a hoarding addiction which has been consuming his every waking hour. He sits hunched over his laptop in the shabby little office, bidding against the rest of the world for high-end antiques. He is spending a LOT of money, then jumps into a van and drives all over the country to pick up his prizes.
David is not a young man - closing in on 80? His auction sales have remained our happy-hunting-ground for years now - we bid on decent (but damaged) antiques, and can bring them home for very little money. I get to work - restore / repair / spruce-up - and move it on to a better auction for resale.
This is our “extra” income - and we’ve loved every minute of it.
The Stuart auctions have become a bizarre circus over the last few months. He has had little or no stock to sell - the folks who consign their things have looked elsewhere, because instead of holding an auction every Saturday - he runs only two sales a month. In the world of the numblies and the dealers in crap to buy and sell - this is a deal-breaker. It’s easier to move items into one of the other houses that sell EVERY WEEK - and put a little cash into their pockets sooner rather than later.
David has CRAMMED his place with extreme high-end antiques. His first obsession was Staffordshire figures. First one, then ten, suddenly a hundred are all stood cheek-to-cheek along the tables which are normally reserved for things being sold.
He’s not selling these.
Likewise antique oil lamps with beautiful glass shades. First five, then 25, now over a hundred - none of which are being sold. They belong to him.
The auction room is filling up with lovely things, but what is actually being sold is crap. Yards of blue rope. Chunks of old chain. Plastic kettles with no lids, a box of broken china, and maybe an extinct radio with no knobs….
German mid-century art pottery.
Then came the clocks. A line of magnificent mantle clocks, marked the beginning of the new obsession - then came the 18th century brass dial tall-case grandfather clocks. Beautiful, expensive time pieces which now march the length and breadth of the auction room. There are over 20 of these - all acquired within the last two months.
None of these things are being sold, just hoarded. The back rooms are crammed with stacks of fine oriental carpets, statuary, brass standard lamps, and whatever else his itchy trigger-finger bid on during somebody else’s auction online….
We stopped in to look at his upcoming sale, and he had packed what was left of the room with BIG brown furniture. Highly polished and restored Georgian tables, chests of drawers, sideboards, etc - all of which he has paid far too much for, and cannot sell to his usual customers. (Including us.)
“I’m going online” sez he. “I need to get better bidders to sell better things, and have joined easyliveauctions “
Color me dubious. David can’t run his own microphone, the woman in the office can’t run the credit card machine, and he struggles with his own cellphone.
But he managed to pull it all off - and I am impressed! The sale was packed with new people. The computer link for live bidding was handled by a woman who sat beside him on the podium, and his wife took care of phone bids.
Daaaaammmnnnn……!
Nobody was happy. Everybody was cramped, miserable, uncomfortable, nowhere to sit, and the usual camaraderie is dead and buried.
Bidding on the floor was fine - but then the internet bids trashed the assembled mob - and took things into the stratosphere. Grumbling was audible, tempers raw. A strange, grim man who was shaped like an actual ham - stood with a penciled list at the back of the room - and paid whatever he had been told on the fine furniture. €2000 for a Georgian table. £400 for a Victorian work table. Prices un-dreamed of before. He took no pleasure in his work, didn’t meet anyone’s eyes, but went about his task with silent, unsmiling determination. He carried everything out to his huge white van, loaded up with ties and blankets - and away he went.
David’s auction was a success. For David. I fear it will only feed the fire of his shopping addiction, and lead to more frantic acquisition.
In the meantime - I managed to bring home the hunter and his seal - because I love him. One of the last pieces to fall under the hammer of a three and a half hour sale (?!) - and nobody in ireland likes Inuit sculpture. He can live here with me, and I will admire his sturdy form in the morning light -for years to come.
The times they are a’changing.

Elevating Interiors: How Architectural Design Hardware Shapes Modern Spaces
Tumblr media
Introduction
The design and functionality of a space are often determined by the small details that bring a project to life. Architectural design hardware, from door handles to hinges and cabinet pulls, plays a crucial role in shaping the look, feel, and functionality of interiors. Beyond their practical use, these elements act as finishing touches that add depth and character to any architectural design. In this blog, we’ll explore how architectural design hardware elevates modern spaces and enhances both style and functionality.
The Role of Architectural Design Hardware in Modern Interiors
1. Aesthetic Consistency
The integration of architectural design hardware into an interior design scheme ensures that every element of a space is cohesive. From minimalist modern homes to industrial-style spaces, hardware acts as a crucial design element that ties everything together. For example, sleek chrome door handles can complement modern, streamlined cabinetry, while vintage brass hardware works well in more traditional settings.
2. Functional Importance
While the aesthetic value of architectural design hardware is undeniable, its functionality is equally important. Well-designed hardware not only ensures ease of use but also enhances the safety and security of spaces. From smooth-operating door hinges to durable locks, functional hardware can transform a space from merely stylish to highly practical.
Types of Architectural Design Hardware
1. Door Hardware
Door hardware, including handles, locks, and hinges, is one of the most visible and frequently used elements in any interior. Selecting the right door hardware is essential for both aesthetic and functional purposes. For example, sleek lever handles are ideal for modern homes, while vintage knob handles suit more classic designs. When it comes to functionality, integrated locking systems ensure safety without compromising style.
2. Cabinet and Drawer Pulls
Cabinet pulls and drawer handles are another key component of architectural design hardware. Often overlooked, these elements can significantly influence the overall design of a kitchen or bathroom. Simple, geometric pulls can create a contemporary feel, while ornate handles add a touch of elegance to traditional spaces. The choice of finish, whether matte black, polished chrome, or antique brass, also plays a role in defining the space’s character.
Material and Finish Choices
1. Brass and Bronze
Brass and bronze hardware are favoured for their timeless appeal and ability to age gracefully. These materials develop a patina over time, adding depth and character to any space. Brass and bronze are often used in traditional and industrial-style designs, where they bring warmth and texture to the hardware.
2. Stainless Steel
For modern and minimalist interiors, stainless steel is a popular choice for architectural design hardware. Its sleek, reflective surface pairs well with contemporary designs and is highly durable. Stainless steel is also resistant to corrosion and wear, making it ideal for high-traffic areas like kitchens and bathrooms.
Customisation and Bespoke Hardware
1. Tailored Solutions for Unique Spaces
Bespoke architectural design hardware allows for greater creative freedom in design projects. Custom-made door handles, drawer pulls, and other hardware elements can be tailored to the specific needs and aesthetic preferences of a project. This level of customisation ensures that every detail in a space reflects the designer’s vision, adding a personal touch to the overall design.
2. Sustainability in Design Hardware
Sustainable design is becoming increasingly important in architecture, and this extends to architectural design hardware. Many manufacturers now offer eco-friendly options, such as recycled metal hardware and finishes that reduce environmental impact. By choosing sustainable hardware, designers can create spaces that are not only visually appealing but also environmentally conscious.
Conclusion
Architectural design hardware is more than just a functional necessity; it is an integral part of shaping the aesthetic and functionality of modern interiors. From door handles to cabinet pulls, the right hardware can elevate a space, ensuring it is cohesive, stylish, and practical. Whether you’re designing a minimalist modern home or an industrial-style loft, carefully selecting hardware will enhance the overall look and feel of your space. With bespoke options and sustainable choices available, architectural design hardware offers endless possibilities for creating unique, timeless interiors.

Why Glass Knobs Are the Best Choice for Kitchen Cabinetry
When it comes to choosing hardware for your kitchen cabinetry, the decision can be overwhelming. From finishes to styles, the details make all the difference in elevating your kitchen's overall design. One option that stands out for its elegance and functionality is glass knobs. Whether you're looking for a modern, vintage, or eclectic touch, glass knobs offer unmatched versatility, durability, and style. In this blog, we'll explore why glass knobs are the best choice for your kitchen cabinetry.
Aesthetic Appeal of Glass Knobs
One of the biggest reasons homeowners opt for glass knobs is their aesthetic appeal. Glass knobs instantly enhance the look of kitchen cabinets, adding a touch of sophistication and charm.
Whether your kitchen has a sleek modern design or a rustic farmhouse feel, glass knobs effortlessly blend into any décor. The way glass reflects light creates a visually striking effect, bringing brightness and elegance to your space. For those who love timeless beauty with a hint of glamour, glass knobs are the perfect addition to their cabinetry.
Their versatility allows them to fit into various kitchen styles:
Modern Kitchens: Clear glass knobs offer a clean, minimalist look.
Vintage-Inspired Kitchens: Frosted or cut glass adds a nostalgic, antique feel.
Eclectic Designs: Colorful or uniquely shaped glass knobs serve as focal points, adding character to the kitchen.
Durability and Longevity
A common misconception about glass knobs is that they are fragile or prone to breaking, especially in high-traffic areas like the kitchen. However, high-quality glass knobs are incredibly durable and built to withstand everyday use.
Manufactured using tempered glass or thickened designs, glass knobs are just as sturdy as their metal or wooden counterparts. Their durability makes them suitable for heavy-duty cabinets and drawers that you access frequently. Additionally, glass does not tarnish or rust, unlike certain metal knobs, ensuring that your kitchen hardware stays looking new for years to come.
Versatility in Design and Color
Glass knobs offer a wide range of design possibilities. Whether you’re looking for something subtle or bold, there is a glass knob to suit your taste.
From clear and frosted glass to vibrant colors and intricate patterns, the design options are endless. You can choose colored glass knobs to complement your kitchen's color scheme or use clear glass for a minimalist touch. For those who want a little more flair, glass knobs are available in unique shapes and artistic patterns that turn your cabinets into conversation pieces.
Customizable options make glass knobs a dream for interior designers and DIY enthusiasts alike:
Shaped Knobs: Round, square, or even artistic shapes.
Patterned Glass: Engraved designs or faceted glass for an elevated look.
Colored Glass: Options like smoky gray, amber, or sapphire blue for an extra pop of color.
Ease of Maintenance
One of the best qualities of glass knobs is how easy they are to maintain. Kitchen hardware tends to get dirty from frequent handling, but glass knobs are incredibly easy to clean.
Unlike metal knobs that might tarnish or wooden knobs that can warp over time, glass knobs maintain their luster with just a quick wipe. All you need is a damp cloth or mild soap to keep them spotless. Plus, glass knobs don’t accumulate dirt and grime the way more porous materials like wood or ceramic might.
For kitchens that see a lot of activity, the low-maintenance factor of glass knobs is a huge advantage. The knobs resist staining and are immune to moisture damage, making them ideal for areas like the kitchen where spills and splatters are common.
Glass Knobs vs. Other Materials
When comparing glass knobs to other popular cabinet hardware materials, glass comes out on top for several reasons.
Glass vs. Metal: While metal knobs offer strength, they can tarnish over time and show fingerprints. Glass knobs, on the other hand, retain their shine and resist wear and tear.
Glass vs. Wood: Wooden knobs can be beautiful but may warp or chip in a moist environment like a kitchen. Glass knobs offer a longer-lasting alternative without sacrificing style.
Glass vs. Ceramic: Ceramic knobs are a popular choice, but glass provides a level of transparency and light reflection that ceramic simply can't match.
The comparison clearly shows that glass knobs offer durability, ease of maintenance, and superior aesthetic qualities compared to many other materials.
Affordability and Availability
Despite their luxurious appearance, glass knobs are often quite affordable. You can find high-quality glass knobs at various price points, making them accessible for any budget. Whether you're doing a complete kitchen renovation or just looking to refresh your cabinetry, glass knobs offer an affordable way to upgrade your space.
The widespread availability of glass knobs also makes them an attractive option. You can find a wide variety of glass knobs in stores or online, with options to suit both classic and modern tastes. For those looking to make a big impact without breaking the bank, glass knobs are an excellent choice.
Eco-Friendly Choice
Glass knobs are not only beautiful but also an eco-friendly choice for your kitchen. Made from natural materials, glass is recyclable, making it a sustainable option for environmentally conscious homeowners.
Choosing glass knobs for your kitchen cabinetry can contribute to a greener home renovation. Their longevity also reduces the need for replacements, further lowering their environmental impact.
Conclusion
When it comes to kitchen cabinetry, the choice of hardware can significantly impact the overall look and functionality of your space. Glass knobs provide an elegant, versatile, and durable solution that enhances any kitchen design. From their aesthetic appeal to their ease of maintenance and eco-friendliness, glass knobs truly stand out as the best choice for kitchen cabinetry.
If you're ready to upgrade your kitchen, consider incorporating glass knobs to bring a timeless, sophisticated touch to your cabinets. Explore the endless design possibilities and enjoy the lasting beauty and practicality they offer. Your kitchen deserves the best, and with glass knobs, you can achieve a stunning and functional space that will impress for years to come.

Transforming Traditional Kitchens with Custom  Kitchen Cabinet Design in South Lyon and Northville, MI
Traditional kitchens have a timeless appeal but can benefit from modern updates to improve functionality and aesthetic appeal. In South Lyon, homeowners are increasingly turning to custom cabinets to transform their traditional kitchens. Custom cabinets offer the flexibility to create a unique design that maintains the classic charm while incorporating contemporary conveniences. Following are some ideas for updating traditional kitchen styles with custom kitchen cabinet designs in South Lyon and Northville, MI.
Embrace Timeless Elegance with Classic Finishes
One of the easiest ways to update a traditional kitchen is by choosing custom cabinets with classic finishes. Choose high-quality wood finishes like cherry, mahogany, or oak, which are staples in traditional kitchen design. These woods offer rich, warm tones that instantly elevate the kitchen's ambiance. To maintain a traditional look, consider using glazes and distressing techniques that add character and depth to the cabinetry.
Integrate Modern Storage Solutions
Traditional kitchens often lack the advanced storage solutions found in contemporary designs. Custom cabinets provide the perfect opportunity to incorporate modern storage innovations without sacrificing the kitchen's traditional feel. Pull-out shelves, lazy Susans, built-in spice racks, and deep drawers for pots and pans can significantly enhance the kitchen's functionality. These additions make the kitchen more organized and efficient while keeping the overall design cohesive.
Mix Open Shelving with Closed Cabinets
A blend of open shelving and closed cabinets can create a balanced look that retains traditional elements while introducing a modern touch. Open shelving can be used to display heirloom dishes, decorative items, or cookbooks, adding a personal touch to the kitchen. Closed cabinets, on the other hand, keep the kitchen looking tidy and provide ample storage for everyday items. This combination allows for a practical yet stylish kitchen space.
Incorporate Glass-Front Cabinets
Glass-front cabinets are a classic feature of traditional kitchen design. They add an elegant touch, making the kitchen feel more open and airy. Customizing these cabinets with glass panes that match one's style—be it frosted, textured, or clear—can update the traditional look. Glass-front cabinets are perfect for showcasing fine china or glassware, creating a visually appealing focal point in the kitchen.
Add a Kitchen Island with Custom Cabinetry
A kitchen island can serve as the centerpiece of a traditional kitchen, offering additional workspace and storage. Custom cabinets in Milford and South Lyon, MI, allow one to design an island that complements the existing kitchen layout and style. Choose cabinets for the island that match or contrast with the main cabinetry to create visual interest. Features like a built-in wine rack, microwave drawer, or prep sink can add functionality and luxury to the kitchen.
Enhance with Decorative Moldings and Trim
Decorative moldings and trim are critical elements in traditional kitchen design. To enhance the classic look, custom cabinets can be designed with intricate moldings, corbels, and fluted columns. Crown moldings on top of the cabinets can add height and grandeur, while base moldings provide a polished, finished appearance. These details contribute to the overall elegance and sophistication of the kitchen.
Utilize Custom Finishes and Hardware
The right finishes and hardware can make a significant difference in updating a traditional kitchen. Custom cabinets allow one to choose unique finishes and hardware that reflect one's style. Antique brass or brushed nickel knobs and handles can add a touch of vintage charm, while modern hardware can create a transitional look that bridges the gap between traditional and contemporary design.
Transforming a traditional kitchen with custom cabinets is an excellent way to blend classic charm with modern functionality. By carefully selecting finishes, incorporating modern storage solutions, and adding decorative details, homeowners can create a kitchen that is both timeless and practical.
