A Palestinian flag was brandished yesterday in the National Assembly in France by a left-wing congressman. He has been banned from the assembly for 2 weeks, which is more than what another congressman got when he did a Nazi salute.

Something a bit funny happened after.

Some context: we have this congressman who is Israeli (and French, because you have to be French to be elected) and pro-genocide. Like, he has yelled, with joy, in the assembly, after another congressman's speech about how many Palestinians had been killed (so, a speech calling the French gov to act to stop Israel): "And there will be more!". Meyer Habib has publicly call multiple times for the death of the Palestinians, and he also vocalized religious' reasons for politic actions, which is inexcusable. He should have been kicked out an eternity ago, and, imo, should be in jail (yes, what he did is illegal in France and can lead to jail time)

Anyway, another congressman, left-wing, David Guiraud, was interviewed live when the congressmen left the assembly, because of the flag (he is from the same political party as the brave politician on the picture). Habib came behind him, yelling to the journalists, "Why are you talking to them?"

Guiraud: What are you doing here? Go away.

Habib: Who are you talking to?

Guiraud: To you.

Habib: We didn't raise pigs together*, show some respect to-

Guiraud: It's you, the pig. You're bathing in the mud of genocide.

The congresswoman beside Guiraud joined him against Habib, saying he is guilty of "apology of a genocide", and told him "If there's a justice in this country, you will be brought to justice, Monsieur."

* "On n'a pas élevé les cochons ensemble" = literally, "we didn't raise pigs together. A French expression meaning that you aren't close enough to an individual for them to behave a certain way with you. Here, Guiraud wasn't using the correct pronouns while addressing Habib (you are supposed to use "vous" and not "tu" while addressing people you aren't close with, it's for politeness. People will drop the "vous" for "tu" if they don't respect the person they are talking to.) and his tone was also blasé, annoyed. Also, for our trans folks out there, yes people will complain you aren't using the right pronouns with them and you are too familiar, BUT will refuse to use trans folks pronouns, especially because every non-gendered pronoun is a neo-pronoun.

Later, Guiraud was invited on tv. He was asked if he regrets his words and would say the same thing again now. His answer: "No. Sometimes, words go further than our thoughts. I want to apologize to every pig in France, I never saw one of them defend a genocide."

Habib has since said it was antisemitic to call him a pig (I don't think it is an antisemitic insult, but even if it was, the context clearly demonstrates that Guiraud used Habib's words against him, he didn't choose "pig"), and that Guiraud attacked him (Habib touched Guiraud first, so no) and is a congressman working for Hamas. Yes, he said that. Now, we are all looking at Guiraud, waiting who him to sue his ass, because that's diffamation. (We already have a minister who is facing a diffamation charge for saying a football/soccer player is working for Hamas because he didn't tweet about October 7th. I wish I was joking, but it happened)

Heyyyy i saw your post about writing your daydream to cope with maladaptive daydreaming. Do you have antimite tips that your therapist gave u ? ( cause therapy is kinda expensive for me right now)

Hey, thank you for reaching out, I'm genuinely really glad you did. I'm afraid I'm not a great resource for this, honestly. Soon after that post I quit the job that provided therapy, so I don't have much more to offer. But I'll give you all of the things that I remember from therapy in case it can serve you!

(Assuming you're trying to stop disassociating,) look out for triggers. What makes you switch from being present to daydreaming?

When you initially notice you've switched to daydreaming, try to stop. This sounds obvious, but I've had to really keep it in mind, and there's usually a reason you switched to daydreaming (for me its usually anxiety or a lack of stimulation) and going back to reality isn't what your mind wants, so try to have something you are switching to. For instance, when I try to become present again, I usually start describing an object I see, and sometimes I shift to describe everything I'm experiencing, so all of the senses, things I'm seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling. And then once you're in the moment, then you can more easily switch to being actually in the moment as in conversations, etc, not just aware of reality but also a part of it. (Describing objects also helps with anxiety and spiraling, if you struggle with that)

Keeping a record of your daydreams can help if you are replaying a lot or if you have a story you are interested in building.

Setting aside time to daydream can help. It sounds counter intuitive, but if you stop yourself from daydreaming other times and say no I'm gonna daydream at 3 till 3:30, then when that time comes you daydream and then you stop yourself. This can build up self control and can break the urge to daydream whenever.

Trying to keep your mind occupied can help. If you daydream while you fold laundry, then maybe try playing music or a podcast or an audiobook and try to stay focused on it.

Doing yoga, or journaling, or something aimed at practicing awareness (physical, emotional, etc) can really help. Even stuff like spending 5 minutes describing everything I see and hear and feel can really help. A big part of getting away from MADD is just training your mind to be able to focus on the present.

Ultimately, what I've found is that maladaptive daydreaming is really just an addiction. And it's a coping mechanism. If you can find what you're coping with and can find a healthy way to deal with it, or find a way to cut it from your life, both are good options, but neither will necessarily stop the disassociation. If an addiction is narrowing activities you enjoy down to the one thing, then the way to break it is to find more outlets, more things you enjoy. If you have hobbies you don't do anymore, or things you used to be interested in, pursuing those can be good. Finding other things you enjoy doing can be super helpful.

On writing: (I didn't get this from therapy, just personal experience) it might help to write down everything from past daydreams that you remember (I personally would get really caught up in trying to remember all of the things. I had been daydreaming for about 5 years when I started writing, so I was trying to remember a lot. And I did forget a lot.) if you have a timeline, feel free to type it up. I write it down almost every time it comes up. I'll have clips of dialogue running in my head and I'll pull out my phone and type it up. Same goes for if I have a plot idea. I write it down to explore it later during the time I set aside for it. If I'm scared I'll forget it, then it runs over and over in my mind and it takes up time, and I don't want that. If I want to explore it, finish the scene, then I'm committing more time, and I don't want that. So it really helps me to cut it short by writing it down.

I'll add more to this list if I think of anything. Hopefully this helps in some way, feel free to reach out again! I tried to highlight my main ideas, sorry if it's distracting but I thought with so much text, it might be easier to skim.

Aujourd’hui, j’ai entrepris de ranger ma penderie. Jour de pluie. Depuis le temps que je voulais le faire. Des années. Comme si j’appréhendais de remuer toutes ces enveloppes usagées – vieux vêtements dont je n’arrive pas à me séparer. Sont suspendus les costumes de mes années pompes funèbres, ainsi que toutes les chemises au col usé. À l’époque, j’étais obligé de porter chaque jour des chemises repassées, cinq à six par semaine. Le dimanche, jour de lessive, le lendemain repassage. Une vie d’employé. Alors qu’aujourd’hui, en l’absence de sollicitations extérieures, ma vie me semble toute déglinguée. Année après année, je porte toujours les mêmes fringues, jean et pull marin, caleçon de vieux garçon et chaussettes trouées. Comme si je ne tenais pas plus que ça à me parer pour affronter les regards de mes congénères. Toucher à ces strates de temps serrées les unes contre les autres me rendrait-il superstitieux ? Comme si j’avais peur d’y trouver une image de moi gelée, telle une momie. Donc je commence à quatre pattes à l’intérieur de ma penderie, évacue tout ce qui en obstrue l’entrée, déblaie. Éponge en main, j’ôte ensuite une épaisse couche de poussière noire sur le plancher, vide une à une les étagères, dépose en vrac sur le lit tous ces chiffons, tente de faire des tas distincts : pulls avec pulls, pantalons avec pantalons, chaussettes dépareillées, slips étriqués, vestes défaites – chacune me rappelant une époque précise de ma vie, heureuse ou malheureuse, comme autant de carapaces, de coquilles vides. Ça sent le corps, la poussière, le produit antimite, la vie d’un jeune homme devenu sec et vieux, ça sent le vieux garçon, le vieux pédé. J’arrive à jeter deux vestes, mon blouson de cuir vintage, quelques écharpes toutes peluchées, des chaussettes élimées – pas autant que je voudrais. Parmi les chemises que je ne porte quasiment plus, je n’arrive pas à faire le tri, comme si j’entretenais là l’espoir de reprendre du service...  C’est fou comme on se raconte des histoires, on se croit immortel ou quoi ? Alors que son tour est passé depuis longtemps, les occasions de se faire beau sont devenues rares ; dorénavant, les tenues sombres dominent. Guère de place pour la fantaisie dans ta penderie. Ça fait combien de temps que tu n’as pas fait l’amour ? Depuis combien de temps quelqu’un n’a pas été fouillé dans ta penderie ? Tu ne cherches donc plus à plaire. Plutôt l’envie de passer inaperçu. Tu ne te vois plus vraiment. Autant enfant tu étais coquet, autant en vieillissant, tu te moques bien de l’apparence que tu offres à tes contemporains. Tu n’as pas non plus cherché à te styliser, tu te vêts comme un étudiant attardé. Et le jour de ta mort, tu ne sais pas qui se chargera de vider l’appartement, la penderie. Qui choisira tes habits, quand, dans la bière étroite, ton corps sera glissé?

Tests with fake bee larvae reveal that a “vampire” mite attacking honeybees may not be so much a bloodsucker as a fat slurper.

The ominously named Varroa destructor mite invaded North America in the 1980s, and has become one of the biggest threats to honeybees. Based on research from the 1970s, scientists thought that the parasitic mites feed on the bee version of blood, called hemolymph. But the mites are actually after the fat of young and adult honeybees, says entomologist Samuel Ramsey, who is joining the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Bee Research Laboratory in Beltsville, Md.  

That insight might aid the largely failed efforts to develop antimite compounds for feeding to bees, says toxicologist Aaron Gross of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. He has documented mites resisting some of the current controls and hopes for new options.

Ramsey’s rethink started with Varroa biology. For instance, the mites don’t have the more flexible body that can swell with a lot of incoming fluid or a gut specialized for elaborate liquid filtering that many other bloodsuckers do. And insect hemolymph looked to Ramsey like a weak, watery choice for exclusive nutrition.

So Ramsey spent about a year while at the University of Maryland in College Park developing artificial bee larvae from gelatin capsules that let him test how well mites survived when fed different proportions of fat from an organ called the bee fat body versus hemolymph. Mites lived for just 1.8 days on average on pure hemolymph. The only ones to survive the entire seven-day tests — though few in number — ate 50 percent or 100 percent fat.

Those tests plus other evidence show that the mites need bee fat, Ramsey and colleagues argue January 15 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Rather than sucking blood, the mite “is feeding on flesh more like a werewolf,” he says.
