I saw a recent reblog you did where you listed some fic recs and then tagged with your fic preferences, which are pretty much my own, favoring canon compliance fics where they're angel/demon (though I have read some 'temporarily human' AUs I've liked). Do you have a collected rec list? Or any more recs you might toss out? Thanks so much!

I’m going to assume you have already explored the other fics bu the authors in the first rec post I made- everything by @redfacesmiley, @books-and-omens , @racketghost , and Drawlight/ripeteeth is a stunner. Also dig through equestrianstatue and @darcylindbergh for real gems.

When I’m reading I find a fic I like, dig through all the author’s other fics, then look at the author’s bookmarks because I figure if they wrote something I like that much, they saved things I’ll like too.

His new friends are in no mood for charity when his ex shows back up- while Crowley might be able to forgive Az, the townspeople have a harder time with the bastard that broke dear Anthony’s heart.

If I’ve had a bad day and need to cheer up, I read this book! Omens sweet story.

…And if I’m in an emotionally stable place I will read this angsty heartbreaker. So beautiful, just so good.

The Wrecking List vol 1

I’m always chasing a certain state when I’m reading anything, but especially fanfic, and that feeling is ... emotionally wrecked, but in a good way. So I’m going to start a fic rec list on Wednesdays (probably) of my favourite “this made me feel lots of feelings” Good Omens fics. I’m aware that this is a highly subjective thing, and one person’s “this fic left me feeling like a wrung out hanky and I liked it” is another person’s “what a romp” but I hope you enjoy these fics nevertheless.

I’m going to try to find some lesser known gems, and both longer and shorter pieces, and I’ll mark any WIPs. And I’ll try to rec 3-5 works a week, if time and reality co-operate. 

And, of course, please send me further recommendations! I want to feel the feelings!

Fair warning: many of these fics contain at least a soupçon of angst. As always, heed the tags!

Long is the way and hard: by Kate_Lear

I love this fic so much. I love the journey, the characterization, the realisation, and the redemption. I don’t want to say too much more so I don’t spoil it in it, but it’s absolutely about a truly demonic Crowley—untrustworthy, wily, and utterly deluded. 

Give me your illusions: by @ashfae

What was Crowley doing in the years after the Holy Water fight? I’ve never accepted the nap as anything other than a half-truth, because the late 19th and early 20th Century was one of the most turbulent times in history, and I love how this fic moves through these tumultuous times with such beautiful precision and longing. 

Some strangeness in the proportion: by @trailingoff

Somehow this fic manages to be both wry and funny and also quietly devastating. The Tesco laundry gel and Sputnik Sweetheart references leave me in agony every time. The ending, and the angel’s choice, is stunning. 

Doubt thou the stars are fire: by @princip1914

Princip is so good at capturing an incredibly specific time and place in their fics and this is no exception, except the times and places are... many times, and many places. The melancholy and sweetness of the section in the desert is something that I think about quite regularly, as is the concept of Aziraphale and Crowley discovering their love for each other again and again, across time and corporations.

I love the circling, reflective structure of this fic, which is so perfect for its emotional journey of love and longing in and out of time. I love how much is left unsaid, and how much it costs both Crowley and Aziraphale to finally say what they mean after the world doesn’t end (I especially adore a difficult, weighty love confession).

Funny you should ask me this Kate, because the fic I was thinking of when I made this question on the ask meme was your WIP, The Ordinary World.

This is a fic where Aziraphale actually does die (sort of) in the bookshop fire and Crowley averts the apocalypse alone, and then afterwards has to deal with Aziraphale’s absence. It is certainly a fic that works with heavy themes, but I think that’s why it is so striking. It’s a story about two fictional magical beings, but it is also about grief and losing someone you love. The lines that have really stuck with me speak to that real life experience with incredibly poignancy. I’ve seen a lot of Good Omens fic where Aziraphale and Crowley’s happiness (or arousal, ooh spicy) bleeds out into the world and affects reality--but this is the only fic I can think of where Crowley’s grief makes a tangible impression on the world. Anyway, I’ll stop rambling and share the quote (it’s from chapter 1 so no spoilers):

The bookshop did not reopen, but lights flickered inside and something moved within it. And anyone who walked past it felt something thick and heavy and oppressive, cold pressing against their skin. The feeling would pass again as they continued on their way, but people began crossing the road before they reached the store, as if a hole had opened up on the pavement.

And there was a hole in the bookshop, a physical one; a gap in reality where there had once been something solid, and real. Where there had once been someone, now there was his absence.

Something moved in the bookshop, but it wasn’t a ghost.

I cheated, it was way more than a line, but this whole passage stood out to me so much and stuck in my head. Read the fic, it’s great!

hi hello!! i love this ask esp because i have not been able to do a lot of reading this week and i am going to use it as my fic rec friday to do a few good ones: 

Good Neighbours, Good Fences (and Other Misunderstandings) by @out-there-tmblr. It’s what it says on the tin: neighbours AU. I love this fic. I think I’ve recced this fic ten times but I will continue to rec it. It’s comfort fic. 

Anthophilia by fortinbrasFTW. This is florist/bookseller/remeeting later in life type AU that was written before the show came out and the scene on the rooftop is one of my favourite scenes ever written.

Romancing the Tome by @antikate. Romance novelist Aziraphale meets painter and part time criminal Crowley as he tries to save his sister Anathema and a very rare book. This is just a good fun romp, love it very much thanks. Also see Kate’s ongoing WIP An Ending (Ascent) which is lush and beautiful. 

You Might Think I’m Crazy (All I Want is You) by @soft-october-night. Aziraphale and Crowley own shops next door to one another. Features one of my favorite soft realizations about Crowley and also a bit of good fun. Also check out their fic House Style! 

Clementine by @omgmussimm. Neighbours by the sea. I love this version of anxious Crowley, who seems not to always realize how anxious he is which I find very true to form. Mostly it’s very soft. Love it. 

Untitled Stardew Omens Fic by @brightwanderer. Crowley’s new to town, learning the ropes of rural life, and Aziraphale’s the town doctor. It’s very fluff and sweet and comforting, and a bit about starting a new life. 

The Fine Print by @fremulon. I’m reccing this one because it’s Cherry’s most recent longfic and it’s very good - salesman Crowley and client Aziraphale, a little intrigue but a lot of sweetness - but truly she is a Master of the human AU. Also check out the many-venomed earth, a 1930s detective AU!

The False and the Fair, by @princip1914. Ok so this is sort of a cheat because it is a WIP and I have only read the first three chapters. BUT. But. I’m obsessed with it anyway, and the reason I have only read the first three chapters is because I was so blown away I was beside myself, I know Princip is going to reach into my very chest and have a good hard squeeze at my heart before letting go. Read it, or put it on your MFL, or subscribe so you know when it’s finished, but do not miss this fic. 

finally I’m going to wrap up on three recs that are sort of cheats: 

Gods in the Gaslight by @antikate and @redfacesmiley. Is this is a human AU? Isn’t it? the ambiguity is SO good and so delicious and you need to read it instantly. (ft ambiguous/open ending and angst, so make sure that’s your thing.)

Closet Set by @racketghost. this is not a human AU, and it’s still a WIP however. this is Crowley being turned into a human while he and Aziraphale do everything they can to stop it. To save him. Racket is a genius, the tension is outrageously good, no I am not taking questions at this time.

The Grinch Who Sold Christmas, by me. you asked me for recs so I get to rec one of my own, those are the rules! and this is my only human AU. it’s Christmassy but I think fun anyway. 

there are so many good good good human AUs out there, I could go on for ages and ages omg. wrap up tonight and pick one or two of these and love love love love love them!

This one hits hard. Crowley is stabbed by a knife coated in holy water. He’s resigned himself to his fate but Aziraphale refuses to accept Crowley dying as a possibility. Some lovely hurt/comfort.

If you are a fan of GBBO you have to read this. It’s an utterly perfect crossover. (The author’s characterizations of Mel and Sue are an absolute delight, and their thinly-veiled loathing of Paul Hollywood is hilarious).

Men to the Moon and Rockets to Russia: by Robotboy 

This fic. GOD. It’s a combination of several things I find irresistible: a historical setting, hurt/comfort, a bit of erotically charged wound tending, and a whole lot of ambiguity. The ending kills me! (It’s also very hot.)

I adore this fic. It’s probably one of my favourite Good Omens fics ever. There’s something about the way Seek moves between the past and the present, and questions of faith and doubt, and love and shame, that I find unbelievably compelling. (Also featuring night swimming, one of my favourite things.)

Heavenly Host: by @redfacesmiley

If you must know, this particular fic made me cry, and not in a hyperbolic way, but actual tears. I love fics where these immortal creatures are forced to confront the reality of what it means to be human, and I love how Red writes both Crowley and Aziraphale, and I loved the bittersweet tone of the whole fic.

Good Omens Themed Fic Recs: Historical

hi hello these are all amazing and you should read them. I believe all of them are compliant with book canon, show canon, or both.

Reviving Robin Hood by @synaps

Rating: T

Word count: 30k

Summary: It has been three days since the world didn't end, and for the first time Aziraphale can be who he is and do what he wants without fear of repercussions. What better way to celebrate this newfound freedom than by masterminding an art heist? (It's all perfectly sensible, if you'd just hear him out.)

Rec: This fic is spectacularly well-written; every sentence is crafted to provoke delight. There are numerous flashbacks and historical sequences, including a wonderful foray into medieval times, which is why I included it on this list even though the frame story takes place in the present. I think this one will appeal greatly to fans of book canon compliant fics and people who obsessively rewatch episode 3 of the tv show alike. In addition to incredible prose, it also features a very sweet slow burn, marvellous illustrations, and the most endearing original characters I’ve yet encountered in fanfic.

Just under two thousand years ago, long before Crowley and Aziraphale raised the believed-Antichrist together, Aziraphale is tasked to influence a young boy toward good: the future Emperor Nero. Crowley can’t help but linger and do some influencing of his own.

Rec: The historical epic to end all historical epics, Phersu is an amazing blend of political intrigue, heartrending romance, and exquisite worldbuilding. It’s incredibly immersive and the dialogue between Crowley and Aziraphale is wonderful. There are also multiple interactions between Crowley and Aziraphale that manage to be steamier than most sex scenes, and the sexual tension between the two of them is really well-done. AND there are lovely illustrations!

On Matters of Love and Pleasure by @justkeeptrekkin

Rating: E

Word count: 15k

Yes, this is essentially porn without plot, but I’m putting it in with these historical fics because there’s such great worldbuilding and the sex scene is heavily informed by a discussion between Crowley and Aziraphale at an Ancient Greek symposium. It’s beautiful and sweet and manages to be extremely hot without ever veering into repetition. Reading this fic feels like sitting on a balcony on a very hot summer night.

Word count: 2.5k

Summary: Aziraphale. You must know I am not responsible for this - it’s all their own work. I’m not even doing anything properly demonic, I’m just watching them die like flies. I hope you’re safe. I hope you think of me, as often as I do of you. No, that’s a lie. I hope you are consumed by your thoughts of me, and I hope you never think of me at all. I hope you regret every wasted minute, and I hope you don’t care at all.

An angel and a demon in the trenches of WW1.

Rec: In case you didn’t gather by the summary, this fic is heartwrenching. It’s also unbearably beautiful, and images and phrases from it have recurred in my memory since I read it. Not a single line is wasted, and the magnificent tragedy of Aziraphale and Crowley’s existence as immortals in a mortal world is nuanced and poignant.

Summary: In 1868, in the heart of Moscow, Aziraphale left the opera in high bad temper. He was out of sorts for three reasons. Firstly, the opera had been of middling quality, verging on poor. Secondly, he was being snowed upon, which would soon leave his overcoat unpleasantly damp. Thirdly, and least acknowledged in his mind, Aziraphale had not yet recovered fully from his tiff with Crowley some years prior.

Aziraphale walks into a bar, meets a composer, and learns about yearning.

Rec: Isozyme seems to defy the limits of language by packing so much into only one thousand odd words. For such a short fic, the worldbuilding is remarkably detailed, and Aziraphale is just wonderfully characterized here. A perfect snapshot of a winter’s night in Russia.

Summary: London, 2019: While Crowley’s poking around the bookshop one day, he discovers Aziraphale’s collection of Regency romance novels, and starts reading—and is surprised to discover striking parallels to a long-ago summer...

Devon, 1817: Aziraphale’s only here to ensure that young heiress Margaret is set on the proper philanthropic path. And, of course, if Evil’s going to show up (in the unfortunately dashing form of Crowley) and start trying to lure her into iniquity? Well, it’s simply Aziraphale’s duty to make sure he doesn’t succeed—by keeping a very close eye on him...

Rec: Like Reviving Robin Hood above, this story takes place in more than one timeline. The banter between Aziraphale and Crowley is nothing short of delightful, the tension between them is squeal-inducing, and the ending is adorably funny and sweet. There is also a podfic version available and illustrations throughout the written fic. Feed your Regency romance needs.

Berkisah mengenai seorang perempuan bernama Lucie (Jessie Pham) dan Anna (Erika Scott) yang hendak menelusuri jejak orang-orang yang menyiksa dirinya saat kecil, Martyrs banyak bernarasi tentang sebuah sekte sesat yang radikal yang mempertanyakan eksistensi kehidupan. Organisasi ini memercayai bahwa kala jiwa dan raga sudah merasa sakit serta hampa maka kekuatan lain akan siap menghinggapi diri. Pengalaman mendekati kematian dipercaya mampu 'menyadarkan' diri. Terlihat dari judulnya, film garapan Jaume Balaguero dan Paco Plaze menggunakan teknik hand-held camera sebagai pengantar visual kepada penonton layaknya sebuah rekaman. Film Rec. menceritakan tentang rekaman seorang reporter acara televisi, Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco) dan kameramennya, Pablo (Pablo Rosso) yang meliput kehidupan profesi pemadam kebakaran. Hal ini berlangsung normal hingga mendapat sebuah sirine tengah malam untuk membantu seorang wanita tua yang dilaporkan tiba-tiba berteriak dan terkurung di dalam kamarnya. Dari momen inilah ketegangan bertubi-tubi datang. Perpaduan virus zombi yang dikaitkan dengan oknum Vatikan menjadikan film ini memiliki nilai yang berbeda dibandingkan film zombie lainnya. Namun, narasi religius memang tak terlalu kental disampaikan film asal Spanyol ini. Namun, pertarungan dengan zombie memang tak pernah salah, apalagi diikuti eksekusi yang baik dalam membangun suasana menegangkan.
