Legends of Tomorrow 5x09

Do these writers know. DO THEY REALIZE THEY HAVE THE MOST AMAZING SET UP IN THEIR ENTIRE RUN FOR AN OTP WITH CONSTANTINE AND ZARI? DO THEY? They probably don’t, given that they’ve historically have one and a half hits amidst all their misses, but. Gosh. I can be the only one that sees it right?? They have to know what they’re doing, on some level? Making them KISS, like THAT, while acting the hell out of one of the most famous romances in history? (Also, Constantine totally checked her out at the beginning of the episode, and she was more embarresed about him thinking she and Nate had something than she was about anyone else, just sayin’!) And THEN introducing the incredible angst minefield of Constantine being indirectly responsible for Behrad’s death*, and Zari holding him accountable and DEMANDING that they go on a quest to undo it?? THEY HAVE TO KNOW RIGHT?? All of that paired with the altered timeline, their past friendship, etc. Gosh. I’m already planning to write a long series that’ll include, among others, this ship. But if s5 doesn’t do this properly I’ll have to take matters into my own hands. I’ll have to. It can even be part of the series, even if it makes it longer than I should commit to, IDGAF XD

*yes, I know how given my other current show, this might get constructed as hypocritical on my part xDDD. I have good arguments about the differences, but most of all, I just don’t care LMAO

Part of the reason I think I’ve fallen for Constantine/Zari this hard is that Zari is more and more my number one fave each episode I watch and… Constantine is the one moving the plot, making things happen. It’s not a coincidence that the plots and villains of this last two seasons were impulsed by him. Those events in s4 were what caused Zari’s timeline to shift. And now those threads are coming together in a way that’s organic and fitting and EXCITING. And I want my fave girl at the center of the excitement, and close to the character that’s become the spark of the narrative.

Even without taking my NEW SHINY OTP into account, I’d actually love it if they deviated from Nate/Zari in this new timeline; I didn’t mind them in s4, but… it’d actually be interesting that the show said, well, they’re different people. Because they are, plain and simple. And a show about time travel and alterations should tackle that (I mean, I, for one, don’t really ship Constantine with Zari 1.0; if I rewatched s4 in my current state I might start to, but the !!!!!!!!! feelings started NOW, with this Zari, with this Zari’s personality). Besides, like Behrad accurately pointed out, Nate does love doomed love stories, and part of his fixation (on Amaya back then, on Zari 2.0 now), is about that.

I’m a MESS about Behrad, by the way. It was even worse because it got paired with Zari 1.0′s appearance, and her happiness at finding out he and their parents were alive, and asking Zari 2.0 to bring Behrad to visit her, him and Zari getting gr8 sibling moments (d’aw at him reassuring her that she’s his favourite Zari. And LOL at her “I knew this would lead to drugs”)… A MESS, I’m telling you. I TRULY hope it can be outdone and not Laurel 2.0 (yeah, still bitter about that), because I’ve come to like him a lot, and because I want Zari to have him in her life (and for Zari 1.0 to see him!! I will cry like a baby if it happens. It has to happen. I have too many expectations for this season, I’m afraid lol. I’m definitely going to have to add it to my re-write series). BTW: Sara/Zari feels alert to, when Sara was the last to stay with Zari after Behrad’s death *sniffs*

The Zari + Zari scenes were AMAZING, regardless. The hug! Zari 1.0 soothing Zari’s 2.0 insecurities! Joking about her ego! Also, we can all assume that Amaya is at that Totem town too, right? So we get to have our cake and eat it too, with Zari 2.0 and Constantine and Zari 1.0 and Amaya, yes? Yes.

Even amids all this I had mini Constantine/Sara feels too, LMAO, when Sara said, “John always finds away.” It’s not only a good shippy line for them (I also LOVE that she calls him John, btw. Love it), but an AMAZING line about Constantince, the character, related to the point about making things happen LOL (he even got to save his boyfriend in s4, which I don’t think it’s a coincidence, given how other “rules” are established and enforced/not enforced in the ‘verse. Though I did love that Desmond told Constantine to go fork himself lol).

I have lots of feels for Charlie and her relationship with her sisters, too (btw, I don’t remember now if Astra’s “friend” was confirmed to be one of them in the last episode or not, because I simply took it as a fact that she was xDD). When she turned into a little girl, my poor heart :(. And I loved how Sara’s words ~inspired her (the Charlie/Sara feels were strong too).

I’m judging THE HELL out of Sara for having Dean from Supernatural as her hall pass. Really, girl? xD. Smh. YOU CAN PICK FROM LITERALLY ALL PLACES AT ALL TIMES. Martin had Hedy freaking Lamarr! C'mon gurl. I spent the whole episode stressed out about the actors possibly having a cameo, thank the universe it didn’t happen LOL. Anyway. I just hope the whole “Sara mysteriously survives a Fate” brings something interesting to her storyline, for a change.

Seeing Mick’s daughter wearing Captain Cold’s costume for Halloween as a child was the only good part of that entire subplot. Ava and Mick together (I might like him better in s3 so far but his story in s5 is zzzzzzz)? It would’ve only been worse if Gary was there lmao. Also, the whole “the word clone is like a slur” joke got old real quick and I wish it stopped.

thoughts on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow 3x01-3x05 (I watch this show backwards, deal with it xD)

I’m loving watching Zari getting to know the team (and tricking them! LOL), being the outsider one, etc. Especially after how in s4 she was often the one to welcome Constantine, the new outsider, in (yes, this are my Constantine/Zari feels coming in. At this moment, I’m side-eyeing fandom for not fully appreciating this ship after the last episode xDD). I love how excited she is about time travel (and how she hacks Gideon lol. Another character that should receive more shippy attention, js. I loled when she used a pic of herself on that dating app to hack all the phones --that strategy worked for comics!Tony too lol. Now I want them to meet xD), or about the food in the ship (when she said she wanted to eat like a queen *-*) how Ray is the first one she really bonds with (I’m going to miss him soooo much). Seeing how much he mourned her brother and her family first hand is making me even more happy that she got them back in s5. I hope she gets her memories back and she gets to enjoy all that emotional payoff.

I liked what little I saw of Jax on The Flash, but now that I’ve met him properly... can we trade him for Ava or Gary (or Mick, though so far he’s a lot less annoying in s3; likely because he has no plot of his own yet and so doesn’t take space from everyone else. And I LMAO when he pulled that stake out of nowhere and was so gung-ho about vampires xD) so we can get him back, please?? I love him. I might even concede and watch s2&s1 to get more of him. I love that he’s the most vocal against the Time Bureau, or in favor of not returning Zari. And I really like his dynamic with Sara (add him to the pile of people I rather she was paired week, smh). It’s bullshit that he’s no longer in the show. And he does look good on any era. I’m also curious about his mental link with Martin (that he said “well done” when Jax got laid asdflaksdfja. Also, I love they took their shot and made the Titanic joke with the actor, btw), and I’m pre-mourning what I know is gonna happen :/. I’m actively trying not to like Martin to protect myself lol, but it’s hard because I love the actor, and he‘s pretty endearing.

After Jax, the old-but-new-to-me character I’ve liked most is obviously Amaya. The actress does a really good job (not that I’m surprised. She made me feel breifly interested in Rebekah Mikaelson in The Originals --where she ALSO played too different characters, albeit in a shorter span--, that’s a miracle xD), because she and Charlie feel completely different. I’m looking forward to seeing more about her and her family (Kuasa’s totem’s powers are THE COOLEST). BTW, Nate acting all fixated on her is clearly his less attractive look RME; let’s hope he doesn’t get like that with Zari, ever, because I prefer how he was written in s4 tbh. OTOH, that said of him provided us with the hilarious moment of Amaya telling him that her fate was interwined with someone else’s on the ship... ZARI XDD (yet another gr10 rareship. This show is so good at those and then fails to follow through :/).

Kid!Ray was absolutely adorable. Of fucking course he befriended an incredibly dangerous baby alien. O-F-C. I love him. Now Nora’s been introduced too (possessed!Nora was sooooo creepy. I loved it), and I’m really looking forward to seeing them together.

Since I mentioned how many rareships this show provides, here’s some that I’ve liked in these episodes: Jax/Sara (their friendship is so so good), Amaya/Sara (their scene when Sara asked for her help was SO SOFT. And I loved how they looked on that 80s car lol), Amaya/Zari (duh), Sara/Zari (the Tension(TM)), Nora/Zari (I liked the reading scene idk), Gideon/practically everyone ofc (mainly Sara, Zari, and Jax)... probably more I’m forgetting. I even enjoyed Rip/Sara a bit --he’s dull and nothing to write home about, but I enjoyed their scenes and I liked it when they betrayed each other and Sara sold him out xDD.

Ava makes even less sense as Sara’s partner the more context I get. I can’t stand her, man. When she clearly didn’t gaf about the future being screwed over by A.R.G.U.S. and wanted to put Zari back in prison smh. And please nobody come at me about how she’s “evolved” or something. She learned NOTHING from that because she had the same deplorable attitude with the prisoners in season four (which she didn’t even apologize for or even acknowledge as wrong, IIRC). I despise her and I want her gone gone gone.

Okay, I know he was only in one scene so far, but I don’t like how this show writes Wally lmao. He ~felt more like an idiot jock, not like himself (that he took his mask off in public doesn’t help...). I hope it improves because I was looking forward some good Wally rareship content too smh.

Some of my fave random moments of these episode: Julius Caesar hitting on Sara and wanting to rule the world with her when she goes to him for advice xDD, and the saber tooth tiger. I love saber tooth tigers (one day we can talk about my Feels(TM) about the Ice Age franchise lmao), but seeing one miniaturized was extra cute lol. And well, not a “fave” one, but my brain exploded when I heard the words “King Arthur got stuck in the Spanish Civil War” omg. I don’t even want to imagine how that would go O_O

Legends of Tomorrow 5x10

I only just now had the time to sit and watch the episode and it was a DAMN great one, overall. Especially Constantine and Zari’s parts (apparently some people are calling them Starblazer, which I love, because it’s exclusively about THIS Zari). I loved the snark, the UST (the “if i have to tie you up myself” quote asfdasfdaksdf xDD), how Zari oppened up to him and he tried to comfort her, and the Battle Couple(TM) moment at the end (with bonus ripped-shirt Constantine lmfao). The fact that they did all that basically cosplaying Cleopatra and Jack the Ripper made it all the more hilarious xDD (Romeo and Juliet, now this... I gues it’s Their Thing LOL). And ofc the almost kiss!! I’m glad that at the very least the show seems to take the ship seriously AS a ship, even if their track record with Interesting Relationships makes me wary xDD (my attatchment to them reminds me too much of Rosita/Waverly in Wynonna Earp...).

Constantine got “not everything is about you”-d!! Only the character who everything IS about get that LMFAO. If nothing else, that points to me getting more interesting Starblazer interaction, whatever that looks like, so there’s that (and ofc Enchantress knows him/roots for him/respects him/likes him etc. xDD).

Okay, I’m just going to say this, but Ava’s plot this episode? IT SHOULD’VE BEEN CHARLIE’S. Ava’s “connection” with Astra was pulled out of nowhere. Charlie, the Fate, who the other two want to turn Astra into? Telling her to take control over her own life? THAT would’ve been a lot better. Plus frankly, they completely wasted Charlie (and her AMAZING hair) this episode smh.

OTOH, I genuinely love Astra now (not just “like” her as a foil etc., but by herself). This episode did it for me. I love that her response to the Fates speech about abandoning her “petty human desires” (of getting her mother back), obtaining power to design destiny, rule over the cosmos, etc. made her react. I think in other circumstances she’d felt more than tempted (after all, having all that power could’ve helped her achiever her goal all the same), but I think it was two things that made her turn away from them: that they went behind her back with the Encores, betraying her, and that they pulled the “I know what’s best for you” card. Everything we’ve been shown about her so far proves how much she’d HATE that.

I loved how she made sure to secure Constantine’s coin before leaving, too. And though I attribute it mostly to wanting leverage over him (which I think is great of her LOL), I do think part of it was not wanting it to be at their hands. IDK, I have a lot of Astra & John feels (now that more people call him that I can’t help but doing it sometimes smh), even setting aside the theories that he’s her biological father (which I don’t know how I’d feel about, especially because I could see it going places with Constantine’s storyline that don’t agree with me, but. I’ll try not to think too much about them and jinx myself lol).

I enjoyed the Encores this ep, especially the fact that Henry VIII was the first to go xDD. My favourite part was how Bonnie screamed when Clyde died. I Felt That, damn.

I want to be interested in Sara’s storyline, but between the precedent of the last couple of seasons, and certain foreshadowing in the show + spoilers... I can’t shake the feeling that it’s going to end with the captainship being taken away from her and given to AVA, of all people (I know I have UO about her in general, but the fact that this show is trying to make me believe than Miss Who Cares if We Torture Prisoners Or Abandon People to Totalitarian Regimes is good leader material is... idek). And the fact that apparently they’re going to use CHARLIE to prop this storyline makes me so furious I can’t put it properly into words ¬¬

Legends of Tomorrow 5x13

As a Starblazer shipper that side of the episode obviously made me very happy (good thing, because it was about the only one :)))). I loved them just going off alone together, Constantine putting his foot in his mouth with Behrad, Zari wanting him to leave her behind so he could get to the others and save her brother and he categorically refusing, the banter, coming to save the day with a van and a Mean Girls reference, Constantine implying he quit smoking for her... Offering and accepting a spell that would stop her heart was amazing shipping material AFAIC too LOL (with bonus John asking her to show a little more cleavage xD). And of course all the feels!!! From Constantine begging her to “come back to him”, Constantine referring to talking to her as “wanting more punishment”, the starstruck looks they give each other when each says what they’d do with the ultimate power of the Loom (make the world a “better, more inclusive place”, still do right by Astra). Obviously I loved the kiss/make-out session (and Charlie totally knowing what was up LMAO), but I want a slightly more explicit, no-plausible-deniability hook up too, dammit. And I loved that Constantine was immune to the zombies thanks to his “doomed soul”, it was such a gr10 and convenient detail xD. Anyway. I have no idea of where this ship is going but I’m loving the journey there so far, at least.

BTW, whenever a TV kiss involves one character ~passionately grabbing the other‘s face, I remember that line about how it’s done so the camera is on THEM and I LOLed hard about that part in the Starblazer kiss scene xDD

Like I said, basically the only subplot I really liked, with very minor exceptions. I did like some parts of Astra’s, like her demands to the Fates (”we’re ending prunes, dogs shouled stay puppies” asñdlfkajsdf. Hard disagree on both accounts --prunes are great for sweetening smoothies, among other things, js. And all dogs are perfect--, but still funny), or Lachesis’ speech about how resurrecting her mother would “bound her to the rules of nature, which are not kind to humans. Life as a human is a life of pain and suffering” getting to her. But now she’s gone and even if they get the Loom to work and bring her mother and her back it won’t be Astra, not this one. And this is the one I like. Besides, unlike with Zari, I don’t know that they’ll include Astra 2.0 back in the show or that it’ll work so well.

The subplot that pissed me off the more was Gary’s. Like, are you serious?? I’ve wanted Gideon to have more of a plot and you pair her with GARY?? With bonus ~shippy subtext?? Deugh. Didn’t think I could dislike a ship more than Constantine/Gary or Ava/Sara but you proved me wrong, show! Vision!Gideon says it’s all a figment of Gary’s imagination which is going to be my version ¬¬. The worst thing about it is that if it was anyone but Gary (and a couple others) I could’ve had nice interactions with Gideon (who was absolutely gorgeous omg. I need to write some shippy fic for her. Behrad is my main candidate rn, so I’ll add that to my Legends re-write series WIP lol) AND Astra.

In the list of things pissing me off it’s the show taking Sara’s leadership away just as she goes blind :)))). Add in that I think Ava’s possibly the worst choice among the group for leading this, because she has like zero imagination, so. *Sighs*. BTW, another part I loved about Constantine & Zari is how going away undermined and shed a light on her poor leadership tbh. I love that Constantine (and now Zari) keeps poking holes in that side of the plot.

I liked seeing Charlie being the one to escape the zombies and go face her sisters. I expected we’d focus more on that on the next episode but there’s some weird “trapped on tv” plot and idek what to think about that (except that I’m side eyeing the apparent Ava=Spock comparison. How dare you LOL. And Sara=Kirk would’ve worked better in early seasons, where it seems she got to shine more tbh).

Legends of Tomorrow?

Favorite character: I think at this point Zari has defeated Sara (though I still feel Very Protective of the later because… to be frank, her storyline is suffering smh).

Second favorite character: it’s either Sara or Jax. Sara has an edge because I loved her for a lot longer, but Jax is a character that Appeals To Me on a deep level.

Least favorite character: either Ava or Gary. I dislike Ava more, but she’s had one or two moments (especifically with influencer!Zari in the cologne episode) that were okay, while I find Gary’s very presence insulting xD

The character I’m most like: …… why do I want to say Constantine.

Favorite pairing: Constantine/Zari wins at the moment. I’m completely enamoured with it. Jax/Sara has become a big ship for me too. And really, I can ship so many combinations with this show… Amaya/Sara, Constantine/Sara, Charlie/Sara, Mona/Sara, Amaya/Zari, Nora/Nate/Ray (it had some really “…huh” moments in s5 lol), Constantine/Wally/Zari (I blame @elasticella lol), Gideon/Sara, Gideon/Zari, Gideon/Jax… and more and more.

Least favorite pairing: Ava/Sara. Why must this always happen to me lmao.

Favorite moment: right now is the Romeo and Juliet Constantine/Zari moments, of course ^-^

Rating out of 10: I’m going with a 7.5/10 because the parts that make me happy make me VERY happy, but the parts that piss me off are harder to ignore than it’s common for me lmao.
